Hanna Kim, Shibuya's former executive assistant, contends in the suit, filed Nov. 17, that Shibuya ordered her to make copies of numerous Toyota documents and mail them to Hyundai headquarters in Korea. The lawsuit also alleges sexual harassment by Shibuya against Kim. Kim alleges she complained to upper management about copying Toyota documents that included the words "Do Not Duplicate." Kim was told that if she "didn't stir up anything," she would be promoted, according to the lawsuit, filed in Orange County (Calif.) Superior Court. Added a Hyundai source: "It was not a few documents. It was binders and binders of information." The individual spoke anonymously for fear of reprisal from the company.

Wednesday, November 29, 2006 The global problem of human trafficking in the sex industry touched down in Providence last night as a ranking police official outlined the growth of brothels masquerading as massage parlors in the city in recent years. Maj. Stephen Campbell, commander of the Providence police investigative bureau, informed a rapt audience that there are about 75 to 100 South Korean women providing sexual gratification to men in “10 to 11 brothels” scattered across Providence.
Campbell said the women work, sleep and eat in the dingy massage parlors that are run from storefronts near the State House, downtown and on South Main Street. He said his detectives have tried to question the South Korean women who work in the local brothels, but their work is difficult because most of the women don’t speak English, and, even if they do, they are reluctant to speak to a police officer.
Between 14,000 and 17,500 people are trafficked into the United States every year. And just as they are on foreign soil, many of them are forced into sex slavery. In 2005, the FBI, Immigration Custom Enforcement Agents, and members of the NYPD teamed up to conduct an investigation that resulted in the breakup of Korean sex slave rings up and down the East Coast, and in California. In all, they made 30 arrests and rescued 70 victims -- a small but important victory in a huge battle. There have been many more raids like these over the years, and little by little, people are working to solve the problem of sex slavery abroad and in the U.S. Although the raids may not seem to put a huge dent in the problem, experts say they actually prevent sex slavery in many cases. When a brothel owner sees another pimp or madam receive a jail sentence, they grow wary of continuing their own business.

NKorean nuke test and Japanese gambling habits intersect at pachinko (AP) For the pachinko industry, however, North Korea's image problems and the sanctions have not been a business issue, officials say.
While ethnic Koreans may worry about how relatives in the North are faring without the cash they used to take to them, their main concerns as businessmen lie elsewhere.
"Yes, there are a lot of ethnic Korean operators, but the industry is not at all concerned about the sanctions issue," said Takaaki Sasaki, spokesman for Zennichiyuren, an industry organization. "We're not hearing about anyone losing business because of the missiles or the nuclear test."

http://english.hani.co.kr/arti/english_edition/e_international/176492.html Posted on : Dec.6,2006 Sex trade in Southeast Asia sees increase of Korean males A growing number of South Korean males in their late teens and early 20s are going to Southeast Asian countries to buy sex, as the crackdown on the sex trade here is intensifying, a report showed. According to the report, based on a field survey of 116 prostitutes in Thailand and the Philippines, not just the usual demographic of men in their 30s and 40s but males in their late teens and early 20s are going to countries in the region in increasing numbers to buy sex from minors. In addition, some male South Korean college students that have gone there for study reportedly find female minors and exchange sex for a place for the girls to live.
The survey was conducted by the Naeil Women's Center for Youth from July to September this year. Among the prostitutes surveyed, there were some that dreamed of coming to South Korea. Most of them want to get married to their South Korean "boyfriends," but many are abandoned when the South Koreans return to their country.
Those that have been impregnated during their relationship with South Koreans become single moms and have to seek help from charitable religious organizations.
In addition, according to the report, 68 percent of the prostitutes surveyed said that they were physically abused by their South Korean "clients" during sexual intercourse. They testified that many Korean men were "obsessed" with having sex with minors, and that they tend to refuse to wear condoms.
Some of them also said that Koreans forced them to sell or take drugs.
The Gender Equality and Family Committee of the National Assembly will hold a forum on December 7, where members will listen to a presentation by Filipino women's right activists. During the meeting, news items will be presented regarding female Filipino minors being rescued from Korean-run brothels in the Philippines.

[EDITORIAL]Ugly Koreans The anti-sex trade law that bans prostitution has been in effect for two years now with some superficial results. Red light districts have been zoned for urban redevelopment and crackdowns on prostitution seem to have worked. Up to a point.
However, other forms of sex trade have sprouted up in defiance of the strict law and the number of people engaging in the sex trade overseas has increased.
A recent report showed that even Korean male teenagers are buying sex in a number of Southeast Asian countries. The field survey conducted in Thailand and the Philippines from July to September interviewed 116 local women engaged in sex trade.
It is shocking that it is not just adult men on group tours that engage in prostitution, but that teenage boys are also seeking the services of prostitutes. Even more alarming is that Korean men and boys are engaging in sex with minors.
Engaging in prostitution outside Korea is punishable by the anti-sex trade law. However, the long arm of the law cannot reach that far, and most men do not get prosecuted for engaging in illegal sex abroad unless they are caught by the local authorities.
To prevent these "ugly Koreans" from ruining the country's image in Southeast Asian countries, countries which, incidentally, have been very receptive to Hallyu, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family is working to get the passports of sex offenders abroad cancelled and their passport issuance restricted.

Three arrested in prostitution raid December 09. 2006
Benton Harbor Police Chief Al Mingo said the women arrested in Wednesday's raid were part of an organized prostitution ring of Korean women emanating from Battle Creek, Mich., Louisville, Ky., and Seattle.
Picked up on a felony charge of keeping a house of ill fame was Young Soon Yi, 50. Also, Mingo said Myeoung H. Snow, 47, was arrested on two misdemeanor counts of prostitution and solicitation of prostitution.
Like Yi, Chong Suk Lemmer, 57, was arrested on a felony charge of keeping a house of ill fame, Mingo said. All three women were lodged in the Berrien County Jail.
A language barrier prevented two women accused of prostitution from being arraigned Thursday morning in Municipal Court, officials said.
Hae Ja Kim, 41, of Nashville, Tenn., and Hyon Chu Chung, 55, of Wake Forest, N.C., were arrested Nov. 29 during a raid at the Hawaiian Spa massage parlor at 3527 Route 20 W. in Saybrook Township, according to Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department reports.
The women appeared in court Thursday, but the proceedings were continued because the women speak Korean, not English. Judge Albert Camplese continued the arraignments for need of an interpreter and set a $10,000 personal recognizance bond on each woman.

Only about 10 percent of the state's 3,000 Japanese restaurants are Japanese-owned, with many operated by Koreans, Chinese and Vietnamese.

Ha's 27-year-old son and sushi chef, Jason, is more direct. ``They're jealous because we own so many of the sushi restaurants now. ... They're trying to say, `Japanese food is ours.' ''

December 11, 2006 -- A reputed East Side brothel was hooked in an undercover sting Friday night and its steamy staff of four busted - but it didn't take long for the sleaze hall to reopen for business.
Shortly after, a car registered to a Flushing man arrived and three Korean women, none of whom apparently spoke English, got out and went inside.
Within the hour, men were once again knocking on the door of the raided den.
Before The Post departed, the woman in the bathrobe turned downright inhospitable, snapping at the reporter and threatening to call the cops - as if the house hadn't had enough of the men in blue during the raid.
Arrested Friday were Canny Lee, 51, whom police said was the madam, and Jin Sook Hinds, 31. Both were charged with promoting prostitution.
In addition, Mink Kim, 29, and Min Young, 29, were charged with "unauthorized practice of a profession" after offering a full-body massage and to masturbate an officer, police said.
The undercover cops said they were quoted going rates of $100 to $200.

An estimated 300,000 Chinese civilians were killed, and an estimated 20,000 women were raped, with some estimates as high as 80,000. http://www.house.gov/apps/list/press/ca15_honda/VAUTRINRES.html

The producers themselves say it's fictionalized. The events of 9/11 are very real and we don't need to play fiction with 9/11.
My impression is that this is a misleading film to the core. And it seems to me the only appropriate thing at this point is for ABC to withdraw the series.
some parts of it are fabrications, other parts are misleading and inaccurate, and this is simply a work of fiction, as the producers have said. In some cases, they've said the actors improvised on the set. Well, you know, 9/11 is something very powerful to the American people and we shouldn't be playing fiction with 9/11.
I have written to Mr. Iger and said that we believe that the scenes that we're talking about are complete fabrications. They simply did not happen. They should be fixed. But quite honestly, at this point, I don't think this is something you can fix. I think you just have to yank it.
I'm talking about responsible action on the part of ABC. Their program has been called into question by historians, by members of the 9/11 Commission. They can't fix this along the edges by tinkering in the last-minute in some desperate effort to edit it. This thing is just rotten to the core.

Critics fault the sheriff's efforts. By Stuart Pfeifer and Robin Fields, Times Staff Writers December 17, 2006 On a Tuesday in October 2003, Ki Hong entered Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles to serve a five-day sentence for soliciting a prostitute. He didn't survive two hours. Three members of a Korean gang instantly spotted Hong, 34, who authorities allege was a member of a rival gang. The trio had broad freedom to roam the jail because sheriff's deputies had given them jobs as inmate workers — jobs for which they, awaiting trial on murder charges, should have been ineligible. They let themselves into Hong's dormitory using a guard's control button. Then they stabbed Hong repeatedly, strangled him with bed linen and hid his body in a trash bin.

A government official said the U.S. Embassy in Seoul in a consular meeting with Korea on Friday made it clear that it will clamp down. "A senior U.S. official expressed his concern about the disadvantages such illegal acts by Korean parents can bring to their children in the future," he added.
Most U.S. public schools do not check foreign students' visa when they enroll. But the Department of Homeland Security is serious about tracking down students who enter the country on a visitor's visa and stay after it expires. The embassy said if children are found out, they will not only be deported but risk being blacklisted.

Starbucks Corp., the world's biggest coffee-shop chain, will refute a South Korean court decision that dismissed a trademark violation complaint filed by the U.S. company, Chairman Howard Schultz said. in September lost a trademark dispute with Elpreya Co., a South Korean company that sells coffee from roving outlets in trucks. Australia, a leading destination for Japanese tourists in the 1990s, now is losing out as travelers vacation nearer to home. The number of Japanese visitors fell 4 percent in the year to October and is down 17 percent from a 1996 peak of 813,000.
The trend threatens to cut profits and jobs in Australia's A$18.8 billion ($14.7 billion) annual tourism industry, the largest foreign-exchange earner after coal. The contribution by Japanese leisure visitors, the second-biggest spenders behind the British, is down by 25 percent since 2001, accounting for most of the A$1 billion drop in tourist receipts.

Experience suggests results considerably different from the study, too. Writer Shimako Iwai -- who claims to have slept with more Korean men than she has with her fellow Japanese men -- says the Asian neighbors both come up short. "If the South Koreans knew about the results of this survey, they'd say it was a Japanese conspiracy. Speaking from personal experience, there's not a great deal of difference between Japanese and Korean men. I guess it's true to say that South Korean men aren't overly endowed. But there's no difference between them and Japanese men, either," Iwai, as experienced with penmanship as penismanship, tells Shukan Shincho. Other women also dispute the finding, like the OL who says she has slept with men from over 30 different countries. "French guys I've slept with have been, like a lot of Japanese, uncircumcised, but I didn't think they were particularly large," she says. "Their peach-colored penises were hard and thick, but they fit perfectly with the Japanese condoms I gave them to use. Apart from the color, they were no different to the Japanese ones. My memories are struggling to breath from all the chest hair that kept hitting me when they were in the missionary position. They were fantastic at sex, though, really concentrating hard. They never leave you alone and are really kinky. The French have got an inordinate interest in anal sex." http://mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp/waiwai/news/20061220p2g00m0dm011000c.html
The OL, who isn't named in the article, says that Americans left her feeling unsatisfied. "White American men were my biggest disappointment. I can see why the survey ranked their size below the Japanese. They don't try anything new and barely do any foreplay. They just go through the motions, but then scream out like mad while they're doing it. They'd have to be regarded as pretty useless at sex," she says, forgetting she's supposed to be talking about length, not how it's used. "Basically, I think it's all right to think that Americans are slightly larger than Japanese."
An illustrator who says she has had intimate relationships with 50 foreign men says that the eggheads were looking in the wrong direction. "I simply cannot believe why there weren't any African countries mentioned toward the top of the list in this survey. Africans are literally 'a head above the rest,' " the illustrator tells Shukan Shincho. "I've slept with African-Americans, Ugandans, Nigerians and South Africans and, while they are not overwhelmingly thicker, they are certainly longer. I can use both hands to grab hold of them and there'll still be some space left at the top. With Japanese, I've got the whole thing covered with a single hand. Africans also have incredible stamina and endurance. No wonder they always win those marathons." (By Ryann Connell)
December 21, 2006 Charges are filed against landlord The owner of a 15-unit South L.A. building faces 34 counts over conditions that allegedly put tenants in danger. The Los Angeles city attorney's office Wednesday filed 34 criminal charges against a landlord who allegedly removed pipes, tore out windows and cut off power to his building south of downtown, putting his tenants' health and safety at risk.
The charges, which could send Joon Lee and his wife, co-owner Eun Sil Lee, to jail for up to 17 years if they are convicted, follow a lawsuit filed by the tenants accusing Lee of waging an illegal campaign to drive them out of their graceful but dilapidated building to replace them with higher-paying residents in a gentrifying area.
"This is one of the worst cases this office has seen in a long time," City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo said. "You could see windows gone, and children were there, with open windows with drops of up to three stories."

Zimbabwe: Foreigners Arrested in Marange Diamond Rush DIAMOND smuggling and mining in Chiadzwa, Marange, continues unabated amid reports that several foreigners, some masquerading as tourists, have been arrested for illegally dealing in the blue gem.
On Wednesday, 24 illegal miners were nabbed after alert police officers cordoned off the shafts they were plundering.
Also nabbed was a Korean, Sung Hyun Kim (29), who was found in possession of diamonds worth $53 million and a South African passport. In the case involving the Korean, acting Manicaland area prosecutor Mr Levison Chikafu said on December 17, police received information that Kim and his Zimbabwean accomplice, Tobias Marowa, were dealing in precious stones. Marowa resides in Chikanga 3 and works at Blue Star Service Station. Having picked up the information, police went to Blue Star where they intercepted Kim's Mazda Familia Sedan registration AAA 1246 and searched it. Eighty-eight pieces of rough diamonds were found concealed in a travelling bag and wrapped in a plastic bag with sweets. The diamonds are worth $53 million.
25 décembre 2006 ‘Paris Syndrome’ strikes Japanese A dozen or so Japanese tourists a year have to be repatriated from the French capital, after falling prey to what’s become known as “Paris syndrome”. That is what some polite Japanese tourists suffer when they discover that Parisians can be rude or the city does not meet their expectations.
The experience can apparently be too stressful for some and they suffer a psychiatric breakdown. Around a million Japanese travel to France every year. Many of the visitors come with a deeply romantic vision of Paris - the cobbled streets, as seen in the film Amelie, the beauty of French women or the high culture and art at the Louvre. The reality can come as a shock. An encounter with a rude taxi driver, or a Parisian waiter who shouts at customers who cannot speak fluent French, might be laughed off by those from other Western cultures.
Other women also dispute the finding, like the OL who says she has slept with men from over 30 different countries. "French guys I've slept with have been, like a lot of Japanese, uncircumcised, but I didn't think they were particularly large," she says.

Hookers Busted in U.S. Visa Scam Police have busted 42 prostitutes for using forged documents to get a U.S. visa. Police in Seoul also detained a broker identified as Kim (47) on charges of faking a variety of documents to help them get the visas. According to police, Kim and his Korean-American accomplice had been mocking up bank account records, job certificates and Family Register documents for their clients and training them for the visa interviews since September 2004, charging W4 million (US$1=W928) per person. The two made profits of W1 billion in all by doing so. Half of their 500 clients succeeded in getting a U.S. visa. Their clients included mostly 20-something women who wanted the visa to work in the sex trade in large U.S. cities.
"As far as we know, some 200 Korean women were caught for prostitution in the U.S. this year alone and 100 of them were deported,” a police officer said. "The number of cases where the U.S. Embassy seizes forged visa application documents rose to 200 a month. This is a serious stumbling block to Koreans being included in the U.S. visa waiver program.”
Kangsan Kim had been previously indicted on 10 counts of mail fraud and five counts of wire fraud, but a federal grand jury in Los Angeles returned a superseding indictment on Wednesday adding 11 counts of money laundering, the Internal Revenue Service said. Kim is the president of money manager Unus Capital Management Inc., and chief financial officer of brokerage firm PeopleN Investment Corp. He and others bilked investors by pretending to set up accounts with Unus for securities trading, the IRS said. PeopleN was supposed to execute the trades for Unus, but the firm placed few, if any, orders on behalf of investors, the IRS said.
Instead, Kim and others spent their investors' money on office and personal expenses, including payments on Kim's two cars and his home in Anaheim, the IRS said. The scheme used ads on Korean-language radio stations in Los Angeles to target investors from Southern California's Korean community, the IRS said. Kim, who initially lured investors by promising gains of 10 percent to 15 percent on their money, used funds from newer investors to pay off earlier investors, the agency said.
Kim faces a maximum federal prison term of 520 years, or 20 years per count, and up to $5.5 million in fines if convicted on all counts.
In October, the Securities and Exchange Commission filed civil fraud charges against Kim and the owner of PeopleN, Hyun Soo Jang, in connection to the investment scam. A home phone for Kangsan Kim was not listed. A call to a phone number in Anaheim listed under the name K. Kim was not returned.

December 27 2006 Accused brothel head pleads not guilty
An Oakland man accused of helping import Asian women for prostitution in San Mateo County and Colorado pleaded not guilty to four counts of pimping and pandering while his alleged cohorts face similar charges in federal court. Authorities believe Korean and Chinese women seeking transport into the United States worked at the brothels to pay off their expenses. Ri Luo, 41, ran an escort service in Pacifica and Foster City that was actually a front for a prostitution ring that extended down the Peninsula and Colorado, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Kwor “Tommy” Chou, 29, of Colorado, was arrested with Luo Nov. 21 by the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force but only the Oakland man was extradited last week to appear in the local court. Local prosecutors are trying to extradite Chou, too, but he posted bail in Colorado already and hasn’t been heard from since.
In January, the Pacifica Police Department began investigating a possible brothel run out of an apartment on the 200 block of Gateway Drive based on Internet ads from Craigslist and other sites.
A police officer arrested him as he tried to cross from Maryland to Delaware. The highway was off-limits to vehicles other than cars, and the cop demanded his passport. Unaware that "Republic of Korea" refers to South Korea, the policeman suspected the young man looking haggard from the laborious trip might be a North Korean terrorist, he said.
There’s been testimony from Korea, testimony by Dutch women, testimony by Japanese women who (more or less voluntarily, as they were professional prostitutes before) served in military brothels, military records with widely recognized euphemisms (and Japanese officials destroyed massive quantities of military records, so the lack of clearer documentation can’t be held in their favor).
The “doubt” of politicians in Japan is a very convenient skepticism.

http://www.nichibeitimes.com/articles/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1166124223&archive=&start_from=&ucat=1 Nanking Massacre Remembered in SF's Japantown From the Nichi Bei Times Weekly December 14, 2006 by KENJI G. TAGUMA Nichi Bei Times An annual memorial service to remember the massacre of hundreds of thousands of Chinese by the Japanese Imperial Army in one city during the Sino-Japanese War was held in San Francisco's Japantown on Dec. 9. The Nanjing Ji, which honors the victims of rape and murder in the then-city of Nanking, China, was held in the Issei Memorial Hall of the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California. In attendance among the nearly 300-person standing room-only crowd were more than two dozen students from local high schools. During an eight-week period beginning in December of 1937, the Japanese Imperial Army committed numerous atrocities, such as rape, looting, arson and the brutal execution of prisoners of war and civilians. Chinese historians say that 300,000 Chinese were killed in Nanking, now known as Nanjing, while Japanese researchers place the figure between 100,000 and 200,000.
“We all want to work together towards a peaceful world for our children,” said San Francisco Superior Court Judge Lillian Sing, the founding co-chair of the Rape of Nanking Redress Coalition, one of the event's three sponsoring organizations in addition to the Global Alliance for Preserving the History of WWII in Asia and the Alliance for preserving the Truth of the Sino-Japanese War. “But Japan must admit Japan was wrong. If Japan publicly apologized, and paid reparations, we welcome (it) and we would work with Japan to allow Japan to get into the United Nations Security Council even.” “In court, when someone commits a crime, a murder, that person is punished, that person is tried…and sentenced accordingly,” said the long-time judge. “Japan…still refuses to apologize.”
Those sentiments were echoed by California State Controller Steve Westly, who disclosed that his father was in China in the late 1930s and personally saw what had happened in Nanjing. “I’m here as the chief financial officer of California…to formally call upon the government of the state of Japan to formally recognize the atrocities committed by that government against the people of China,” said Westly, whose wife Anita Yu Westly is a Chinese immigrant from Hong Kong. “If we do not remember the history of our elders, we are not only doomed to repeat it, but we disrespect those who lost their lives.”
A proclamation by Mayor Gavin Newsom, whose grandfather is said to have died as a result of the Japanese atrocities in the Philippines, was read that declared it “Nanking Remembrance Day in San Francisco.”
Newly-elected District 4 Supervisor Ed Jew, the only Asian American on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, expressed the need to educate younger generations so that they don’t forget history. “Teach them the importance of what happened,” he urged. He committed himself to introduce a resolution on the atrocities at the Board of Supervisors.
‘Apology’ Debated Peter Stanek, the chair of the Rape of Nanking Redress Coalition, laid out the organization’s two principle objectives: secure a formal governmental apology from the government of Japan for the atrocities committed by the Imperial Army in World War II, and to affect a “meaningful program of repayments” to the victims. But according to Japanese government officials, an apology was made in a 1995 statement by then-Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama. The statement read, in part: “During a certain period in the not too distant past, Japan, following a mistaken national policy, advanced along the road to war, only to ensnare the Japanese people in a fateful crisis, and, through its colonial rule and aggression, caused tremendous damage and suffering to the people of many countries, particularly to those of Asian nations.” Murayama’s statement continued, “In the hope that no such mistake be made in the future, I regard, in a spirit of humility, these irrefutable facts of history, and express here once again my feelings of deep remorse and state my heartfelt apology.” On Aug. 15, 2005, then-Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi made a similar statement, saying, “I once again express my feelings of deep remorse and heartfelt apology, and also express the feelings of mourning for all victims, both at home and abroad, in the war.” But redress advocates say that the statements do not fully represent the people of Japan, since it did not have the backing of the Japanese Diet. “Our position is that the Japanese government has not apologized because the government has not passed a resolution through the Diet to apologize,” said Sing. “The prime minister’s apology is a personal apology, and it’s not sufficient for the crimes that Japan committed during World War II.”
At the celebration of the U.S.-Japan Peace Treaty in 2001, the consul general of Japan in San Francisco at the time addressed that issue. “The prime minister represents the cabinet, the cabinet represents the parliament (Diet), the parliament represents the people,” said then-Consul General Nobuaki Tanaka. “So this is how Japan works, which is different from the United States.” The current consul general could not be reached in time for comment. Sing noted that in contrast to Germany, which has paid billions of dollars to its Holocaust victims in the state of Israel, Japan “has not paid one cent, one yen” to its Chinese victims. Japan argues it is bound by the 1951 San Francisco Peace Treaty. While allowing for reparations to several countries that were victim to its military aggression, the treaty did not officially recognize the People’s Republic of China as a party to reparations. That was settled, the Japanese government says, with a “Joint Communiqu・#8221; of the governments of both China and Japan in 1972. It stated, among other things, that the “Government of the People’s Republic of China declares that in the interest of the friendship between the Chinese and the Japanese people, it renounces its demand for war reparation from Japan.” The Chinese government “sold us out,” Sing said, calling the communiqu・“very unfortunate.” “China was very weak in those days,” she explained. “(But) it never signed away the rights of the citizens, that’s how a lot of us feel.”
The event also included the voices of victims of the Japanese military atrocities. “I was arrested by MP in Shanghai when I was in junior high,” said Helen Song through a translator, fighting back tears. “My parents were tortured.”
Song, who currently lives in San Jose, urged an economic boycott of Japanese goods. “Sixty-nine years have passed…we can no longer wait,” she added. “Stop buying Japanese merchandise and tell your friends of Japanese descent what happened in the past.”

This is about rescuing our citizens. Many Japanese abductees have been incarcerated in North Korea for nearly 30 years and deprived of all freedom. They deserve all possible support to regain their freedom and dignity. It is our duty to retrieve them. And abduction is very much an ongoing problem. Only 5 abductees were repatriated in 2002, and North Korea has failed to provide any convincing evidence to support its claim that the remaining Japanese abductees have died or never entered their country. The recent UN General Assembly resolution on the human-rights situation in North Korea is testimony to increasing international awareness of the need to resolve this issue.

Fewer than half the public think it likely the United States will go to war with Iran or North Korea. Should it come down to that, 40 percent think the battle will be with Iran while 26 percent said North Korea.

He seemed to have tripped in his effort to tread lightly on the political views of the many United Nations members.
The remarks also seemed to show that Mr. Ban, who was South Korea’s foreign minister when he was chosen in October as secretary general, had not completed the transition from representing his country to leading the United Nations.
He's also very, very lonely, which is why he finds himself, in the opening scene, in a Korean massage parlor. He's there for more than a massage. January 3, 2007
You have to wonder whether ABC's dreadful new sitcom, "In Case of Emergency," got its name after somebody at the network said: "We should only put this show in our lineup only in case of emergency." "Emergency" centers on four people who knew each other in high school but are now in their late 30s and facing the low points of their lives.
Jonathan Silverman (he was NBC's "Single Guy" for two merciless seasons) is the central character, Harry, a divorced father who writes greeting cards for a living. He's also very, very lonely, which is why he finds himself, in the opening scene, in a Korean massage parlor.
He's there for more than a massage.
Who should appear to administer this "massage" but Kelly (Kelly Hu), valedictorian of Harry's class in high school, sporting a fake Korean accent and a tight red dress (most of her clothes seem to be tight).
Obviously, something went horribly wrong in her life, but will the show be on long enough for us to find out? Let's hope not.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/03/arts/television/03stan.html Kelly Lee (Kelly Hu), a stunning Korean-American who was class valedictorian, but is working in a massage parlor. The first two episodes do not spell out Kelly’s fall from grace, but do hint at troubles with men and self-esteem.
Check out blog entries from Kelly's best friend and coworker at the massage parlor. She's not on the show, so she'll be giving her unique perspective and the exclusive scoop here! Another Day, Another Dollar January 3, 2007 11:37PM PST
My BFF (best friend forever) Kelly always says that it's better to just tell our clients lies, it's all part of the fantasy. She thinks they want to believe that we're fresh off the boat from Korea; so that they can pretend that just because we don't speak English we might not know that what's going on here is all very, oh, what's the word? ILLEGAL.
Whatever, I guess everyone needs to escape every now and again, or at least once a week for thirty minutes... ha ha.

"the Chinese often ate their enemies out of hatred or revenge during wartime." "During World War II, hate-cannibalism is reported to have occurred in China. Later, as the civil war between the Communists and the Nationalists went on for control of China, some Communist soldiers were executed routinely in a far-interior district; and their flesh and bones were eaten out of a spirit of revenge. One American priest told of seeing a Chinese Nationalist officer cut out and eat the heart of a Chinese Communist."

"Trafficking in human beings is nothing less than a modern form of slavery," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has said. In one typical scenario, advocates say, the international journey begins with commercial-sex headhunters who use phony promises of jobs in restaurants or health spas to prey on women from impoverished locations desperate to find an American payday to help their families back home.
After being smuggled illegally onto US shores, the women are hit with the tab: thousands of dollars in fees.
Queens a staging area On the East Coast, the ethnic enclaves within the New York City borough of Queens such as Flushing and Jackson Heights have become major recruiting centers for traffickers, according to law enforcement officials and advocates.
In August, federal authorities charged more than 30 Korean nationals with operating a sex-trafficking operation along part of the Northeast Corridor: New York, Philadelphia, Washington. A chain of brothels, and a transporter for the enterprise, were based in Queens.
In the more than 40 arrests in Allston/Brighton alone in 2005, records show, the aberrant morphed into the widespread: foreign-born women, listing far-away home addresses -- including many in Queens -- arrested for prostitution in illicit massage ventures and needing interpreters in court because they could not speak English.

Therefore, every time the video claims that a Korean map or document says `Dokdo,’ you will know that it is a lie.’’
There is absolutely no denying the profitability of the sex industry in Korea. The Korean Institute for Criminology (KIC) estimated the total revenue of the sex trade in 2004 to exceed $22 billion. This is approximately 4.4 percent of Korea's gross domestic product. To put this in perspective consider that Korea's GDP for the forestry, fishing and agriculture sectors combined is only 4.1 percent. Needless to say, prostitution is clearly a lucrative business in Korea and these kinds of figures provide plenty of incentive to work in the sex industry.
A healthy economic market requires a steady flow of both supply and demand for product or service. In the case of the sex industry, we find that there are a tremendous number of women willing to sell sex and a similar number of men willing to buy it from them.
In 2002 the Korean government estimated that roughly one million women were employed in the sex industry at any given time. While this is still a staggering number it is thought to be somewhat conservative, and in reality the number is probably much higher.

In Washington County, he also faces 16 counts of possessing child pornography after police say they discovered those types of images on his computer.
Sung Koo Kim was initially arrested in early May, about a week and a half before 19-year-old Brooke Wilberger disappeared from a Corvallis apartment complex where Kim had allegedly been stalking an OSU swimmer.
http://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/news/1107522003244970.xml Authorities accused Kim, a somewhat reclusive 30-year-old who lived with his parents, of traveling to college campuses up and down the Willamette Valley to steal thousands of pairs of panties. The burglaries, they allege, were part of an obsession that left him with a vast collection of pornography depicting violence against women and, in a few cases, images of children.

http://tamagawaboat.wordpress.com/ MR.TED LEONSIS I have the proposal on your film “Nanking” in order to constructively dialogue. The proposal is…Could you please put descriptions on each photo that your film used? Each description mainly includes the following things
1) When was the photo taken?
2) Who took the photo?
3) Where was the photo taken?
I believe the essence of documentary film is the journalistic mind. The journalistic mind appears the attitude to search for the truth. To pursue the truth to the greatest extent possible is the achievement of the documentary film. The finest documentary films have been evaluated from viewpoint of achievement level how they approached the truth.
If you use those photos without descriptions “UNKNOWN” though you could not find the above 3 (when/who/where), your documentary film will be out of the journalistic mind. In short, your documentary film will be evaluated not as documentary film but as a kind of propaganda film. It is forecasted that many people who are pursuing the truth of “Nanking Incident” will criticize your attitude at time of interview after your film’s screening. I would appreciate if you could accept the above my proposal on your film sincerely if possible.
John Shortridge, the Waikiki customer service manager who was identified in the lawsuit as the primary harasser, is still employed by the company and is undergoing training in Japan to become general manager of the company's Vietnam branch, said Higa, who also represented Shortridge.
"H.I.S. rejected Ms. Aoki's sexual harassment claims and in fact promoted the manager, the primary harasser, and ultimately promoted Mr. Shortridge to chief operating officer of the company," Remillard said.
During the course of her 14-month employment with H.I.S., Aoki, 29, was subjected to repeated groping and attempts to remove her bra by Shortridge and others, Remillard said. Shortridge also repeatedly pressed on Aoki's breasts with pens and picked her up from behind to attempt to expose her undergarments, he said.

China, Russia Veto Myanmar Resolution China's U.N. Ambassador Wang Guangya and Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin both said the Security Council was not the proper place to discuss Myanmar because the country does not pose a threat to international peace and security.
The country's "military regime arbitrarily arrests, tortures, rapes and executes its own people, wages war on minorities within its own borders, and builds itself new cities while looking the other way as refugee flows increase, narcotics and human trafficking grow, and communicable diseases remain untreated," he said. Myanmar's junta took power in 1988 after crushing the democracy movement led by Suu Kyi. In 1990, it refused to hand over power when Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy won a landslide election victory. Since then, Suu Kyi has been in and out of detention, kept in near-solitary confinement at her home.
Myanmar's U.N. Ambassador Kyaw Tint Swe thanked China and Russia and the countries that abstained, stressing that his country posed no threat. Had the resolution been adopted "it would have created a dangerous precedent," he said.

The main thing is to speak the truth. Why should a nation be drowned in lies and deceit? In the days of the emperor, whoever lied to him would be killed for disrespect. But now the liars get promoted as officials. Get rich. Now rich people's dogs live better than the peasants.
How free are the Chinese people? How free to worship as they please? To learn the truth from the media? To hear the truth from the Communist Party and the government? How can people with a grievance negotiate with the state?
Tibetan Buddhism has long been feared as a rallying point and cover for Tibetan independence.
The second half looks at popular grievances: forced evictions, government cover-up of the AIDS problem, corruption and land grabbing. There were 87,000 officially-recognized cases of public disorder in 2005. The cameras go inside a "Re-education through Labor" camp to which women are committed without trial for up to four years for drugs, sex or property offences -- or for petitioning.
The final sequence in the series is the story of what happened to Taishi Village, which sought to use the law to impeach and remove its corrupt leaders. Praised by the leading Party newspaper in China one minute, the village was overrun with police and militia the next. The corrupt old leaders were reinstated by local government amid violence, intimidation and arrests.

New York Man Pleads Guilty to Human Trafficking January 18, 2007 NEW YORK -- A man from Queens, NY, pleaded guilty today to attempting to recruit a Korean woman whom he believed to be a minor to work as a prostitute, the Justice Department announced on Wednesday.
Do Hyup Bae pleaded guilty to charges relating to the operation of a network of over 25 Korean-owned brothels that were located throughout the northeastern part of the United States, including New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Several of these brothels were located in Queens, N.Y.
1. The Korean communists were not established until 1948. 2. There are absolutely no bamboos in Korea, both South and North. 3. The Japanese army remained in Korea until the US/Russian forces arrived. 4. 2 million Korean men were conscripted into forced labor and military services. 5. 300,000+ Korean girls were conscripted into forced prostitution and sexual slavery. 6. American warplanes hardly even touched the Korean peninsula throughout the war. 7. If there ever was a bombing in northern part of Korea, it would most certainly have been the Russian warplanes, as the Americans had not even begun military operations in the south yet. Russian forces overran Japanese defences in Manchuria and the northern tip of Korea shortly before Japan's surrender.

Chinese Satellite Test Draws Sharp Protest From Other Nations By Marc Kaufman and Dafna Linzer Washington Post Staff Writers Thursday, January 18, 2007; 4:54 PM The Chinese military used a ground-based missile to hit and destroy one of its aging satellites orbiting more than 500 miles in space last week, an apparent test of anti-satellite technology that raised concerns about a possible arms race in space and drew sharp protests from other space-faring nations.
The satellite-destroying test is believed to be the first of its kind in two decades by any nation, and experts say it dramatically illustrates Chinese capabilities in space and their willingness to face the certainty of broad international criticism.
"The U.S. believes China's development and testing of such weapons is inconsistent with the spirit of cooperation that both countries aspire to in the civil space area," National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said today. "We and other countries have expressed our concern regarding this action to the Chinese."
In addition to introducing a renewed military dimension to space, the destruction of the Chinese satellite created a large "debris cloud" that can seriously damage other satellites in nearby orbit, and possibly even spaceships passing through the region on their way to the moon or beyond. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/18/AR2007011801029.html

Question from William Underwood, Kyushu University: <出たwww I am a Japan-based researcher of the wartime program for Chinese forced labor in Japan and its postwar aftermath. Due to my limited travel budget, I am trying to decide if the research benefits of a trip to the NARA archives would likely outweigh the financial costs. Is there some process for ascertaining in a general way, from here in Japan, the extent and nature of records about Chinese forced labor?
これと言ったものは見つからなかったらしいね。 Mr. Drea admits to some disappointment that smoking guns on Japanese war crimes did not turn up, especially when compared with documents on Nazi crimes that have led to new conclusions on what American officials knew about the Holocaust.
"To be honest, I'd hoped we'd find something," Mr. Drea says. "That's the historian's dream: fresh information that illuminates a dark problem. It just wasn't there." http://chronicle.com/free/v53/i20/20a00901.htm
Question from Matthew, media organization: Do these records reveal anything new about the so-called comfort women issue?
Greg Bradsher: No, I do not believe so. The National Archives does have, however, records relating to the so-called comfort women that have been available to researchers for decades. Some of the information is "buried," such as in references to them in translations of captured Japanese diaries and orders. http://chronicle.com/live/2007/01/records/

Officials say Seong Gook Kim crashed his Toyota 4-Runner into the cruiser that had stopped on the shoulder of the Santa Ana freeway near a disabled vehicle and tow truck last night around 10:00.
The 37-year-old's vehicle overturned, but Kim was not seriously hurt. He was booked on suspicion of felony driving under the influence at a nearby sheriff's station.
The two C-H-P officers were hospitalized with moderate injuries. The tow truck driver and the woman whose vehicle was disabled suffered minor injuries.
A South Korean man has been arrested in Vietnam in the stabbing death of a South Korean restaurant manager after an apparent dispute over bad service, police said Thursday. Song Young Il, 35, was arrested immediately after the death Wednesday of 31-year-old Eo Soo Jin, manager of Blue Sea Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City.
The two South Koreans had quarreled over the quality of the restaurant service after Song had dinner there, according to the Vietnamese investigator in the case, Nguyen Duc Nghiem.
An angry Song left the restaurant at about 2 a.m. and reportedly smashed the front window with a rock, after which Eo came outside and began beating the customer with a stick.
Song left, but later returned with three knives and witnesses told police he stabbed Eo in the stomach.

These are Britain's most troubling issues at a time of an unprecedented level of immigration and a never-ending divide between rich and "common," and that is why the nasty, some say racist, comments that fellow contestants directed at Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty have ignited protests in India and a record 30,000 viewer complaints.

Hmmm, the Pledge of Allegiance.. We had to sing it every morning through high school but we could sit it out if we had a real objection. We never had to sing the national anthem, though. I really only heard it on TV or football things or something like that. But I don't think that it's really forcing nationalism. I mean, it's just a song. I never felt patriotic when I said it, to me it wasn't anything more than a song that 'represented' our country. It's not something that makes me feel patriotic. I'm not sure if I can explain it right, but maybe if I say that to me it always felt like it was a symbol of our country, nothing more. It didn't feel like it was designed to make me like the country or not. And a harmless song is a lot different than what the japanese government is trying to do. They're trying to make it so that patriotism is forced upon students, to the degree that if they don't display a certain degree of blind unfounded patriotism to their country, they will be docked in their grades. I really, really think that is quite different and definitely a destructive way to go.
Korea must face the true history, January 17, 2007
February 1946, a new clinic opened near Hakata Port. It was actually an abortion clinic.
The reason was so many women evacuated from Korean peninsula were pregnant as the result of raping. According to the report by Dr Hashizume in 10 Jun 1946, most cases were raped by Koreans, second was Russians.
Abortion was illegal at the time but the doctors wanted to prevent the women to commit suicide. There was no anesthesia because of lack of supplies but the operations were continued until late 1947. "So Far from the Bamboo Grove" is not fiction, it's true story.
Busted - for 19th timeSansom St. 'massage parlor' has 13-yr. history of arrests
Vice cops found themselves in familiar territory Jan. 11, when they busted a Korean prostitution ring at 1112 Sansom St. It was the 19th time in the past 13 years that an investigation had led cops to the same seedy Center City massage parlor, said Narcotics Chief Inspector William Blackburn. Over the years, police have arrested 74 prostitutes at the parlor.
Six more women - several of whom are illegal immigrants - were added to the arrest tally during last week's raid. Police said Kyung-Ae Kang, 35, and Kee-Eun Song, 31, were charged with prostitution, solicitation and related charges. Joung-Sook Kim, 29; Sun-Ja Kim, 35; and Sun-mi Joung, 32, were all charged with misdemeanors for being in a house of prostitution. Mi-Sook Park, 47, was charged with promoting prostitution. She was overseeing the brothel and the women, cops said.
Several months ago, federal officials busted a Korean human-trafficking ring that stretched up and down the East Coast and included a brothel in North Philadelphia.
"Given the past history, we don't feel confident that we'll keep this location shut down permanently," Blackburn said. "But if they try to open it again, we're going to have our eyes on them."
john Says: >When you move to America and become a citizen, you are entitled to the same rights as all other citizens. This is clearly not the case in Japan.
The Japanese import thousands of native English speakers a year (more than 6,000 through the JET Program alone), yet their attitude toward foreigners remains unchanged: "You are here by our good graces. Do not forget that you are not one of us."
At the same time, the Japanese pride themselves on their "internationalism," as if installing gaijin in classrooms to act as human tape players or instructing students in the minutiae of English grammar for the purpose of passing entrance exams has imbued them with a sudden awareness and respect for foreign cultures. But if they cannot respect me on an individual level, how can they possibly ever respect my culture?

In a notice posted on its web-site, the Shanghai Municipal Industrial and Commercial Administration said quality control tests were conducted on garments for sale in Shanghai. "Including luxury brands Armani, Burberry, Polo Ralph Lauren, ST Dupont and MaxMara", said PA newswire. All but one of the 25 garments were imported.
“Many Chinese consumers see foreign brands as likely to be of much higher quality than the often shoddy goods churned out by many local producers that have yet to develop a reputation worth safeguarding,” said The Financial Times in reaction to the statement. http://www.ecotextile.com/news_details.php?id=518
これワロタ The Father Christmas Greenland international society announced the exception with "The origin at Christmas is not South Korea". Named South Korea is showing "Nothing has been said yet" and puzzled.
It is assumed to be essence to celebrate "The god was born as man" at the anniversary and the national holiday of the Christianity that celebrated Jesus Christ's birth at Christmas. December 25 hits this, and everything from the evening of the 24th to the morning is celebrated as a Christmas Eve. Islamite also observes Christmas as a birth of main prophet Jesus.
There are various opinions about the origin at Christmas, and December 25 set to begin with as Saint Mats is a national holiday when a heretical sun god is enshrined, and is a reason of having put the date together to take those pagans. Moreover, the part where it has been avoided to insist on a strict origin from daring compounds of myths various come from Cargocalt (freight belief) to carry the present riding on the horse of eight magic of the foot when the Odin from whom Father Christmas also appears in main god Wodon and the normothermia mythology of the Germanic myth is a festival at winter solstice it is incontrovertible.
The announcement of this society is exceptional, and caught with the strange one. The reason for the society is that only one point with "The origin at Christmas is not South Korea" is announced no insistence on the origin at Christmas at all.
It was insisted that the comment was announced, and the intention of the Father Christmas Greenland international society not be understood in South Korea , saying that "South Korea was named though nothing had been said yet why, and whether such an announcement had been done was not understood".

Inmate Roger Hyung Yi is accused of bolting at 7:10 a.m. while a security gate was left open for a truck delivering supplies, said Corrections spokesman Allen Moore.
Assigned to work in the jail laundry in the 33rd Street complex, Yi ran from the laundry past a security checkpoint with guards in foot pursuit, an arrest report states.

1-25-2007 KOREAN NATIONAL SENTENCED TO 41 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR BANK FRAUD SCHEME SUNG CHUL LEE, 48, of Cerritos, California was sentenced today to 41 months in prison, three years of supervised release and $367,851 in restitution for Conspiracy to Commit Use of a False Passport and Bank Fraud and Possession of Unauthorized Access Devices. At sentencing U.S. District Judge Ricardo S. Martinez noted that once LEE had completed his prison term he likely would be held by immigration authorities pending deportation. LEE was the leader of a ring of defendants who traveled the country using phony Korean passports to open bank accounts and to rent mail boxes. Members of the ring would deposit checks into the bank accounts knowing there were insufficient funds to cover the checks. They would quickly withdraw cash from the banks, before the bad checks had been returned. LEE provided other members of the ring with the false passports, drivers licenses and some cash for expenses. In late May 2004, criminal cohort Young Ho Chang traveled through California, Arizona and Florida opening the bank accounts and mail boxes. The checkbooks and bank cards that were mailed to the mail boxes were given to LEE. LEE and Chang traveled through Washington State as well opening bank accounts in Tacoma and Seattle. In mid-April 2006 two other conspirators, Yusang Kim and Hee Chan Ryou also traveled through Washington State arranging for mail boxes and opening bank accounts. On May 2, 2006 they were arrested outside a UPS store in Tacoma. In their car and at their hotel room, investigating agents found numerous checks and debit cards issued in a variety of names, 43 different picture pages from Korean passports with different names and Kim?s picture, and paperwork documenting numerous mail box rentals, bank accounts and maps of various cities. http://media-newswire.com/release_1042051.html
>>612 http://www.japantoday.com/jp/news/251211/all Let us get our nomenclature correct. NOVA is NOT an English school. It is a financial loan organization. English teaching there is a sideshow; which is why they pay bottom-of-the-barrel wages for bottom-of-the-barrel teachers. Any dispossessed bum in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, (including non native English speaking Qubecquois) or the UK, with a Chinese forged college diploma can land in any one of the NOVA loan offices throughout the land. These OLs obtain loans at NOVA precisely to engage in coitus with foreign teachers. (Provided that their teacher fits her image of what is sexually desirable. That it is against the company policy only makes it that more prevalent. EIKAIWA school is not a school but actually a hostess club in foreigner version. Patrons pay to have conversations with brainless foreign losers. Patrons not only pay to have conversations with opposite sex foreigners but BORROW the money to do it. NOVA profits are resultant from the interest they receive on the loans they issue. NOVA does NOT derive profits from foreign language instruction! Everyone knows that and everyone at NOVA violates the non-fraternization clause. Some more than others. I know of one good-looking Italian teacher at NOVA who had coitus with every one of his four female students (two of then were best friends a la 3P) and five out of the OLs employed at the office, including the manageress. The fraternization shenanigans were omnipresent there.
Quote / hinoai: “I live in Japan, so what makes me different than someone who is born here?” “The only thing that I do not share with them in my birthplace …” It seems like you'll need to use your small brain and make every effort to blend in with the local community. You've been living in a native Japanese reserve across the Pacific Ocean from the Olympic Peninsula as a tourist? You've been sent to Japan to implant xenophobia in Japanse people around you? A manga otaku like you doesn't respect cultural and moral heritages which a natural-born Japanese citizen has inherited from his/her predecessors but showers insults over them. Without enough Japanese skills to understand manifestos etc, how do you exercise your right to vote? I hope you'll make a good Japanese friend and stop listing all your complaints against Japan and its people.

Japantoday is a terrible website, February 19, 2005 Reviewer: Hsin-yi Hu - See all my reviews Its filled with [...] moderators who delete and edit any pro American post. Their board is filled with topic like "America the Terrorist" "If I was Bin Laden" "america the communist" If you rebute these claims, you get banned. I would recommend not going to this site. And I wish there was a lower choice than one star.
This site has very little to do with Japan, February 19, 2005 Reviewer: Atsuko Yamaguchi - See all my reviews As a Japanese girl, I find this site very offensive. I like to discuss things about my country in a civilized matter. But this site has a lot of [...] members and moderators that bash Japanese and Americans. The news section has many flawed news reports and take stories from other websites. the board runs slow and the moderators are rude. It also gives an inpression that the views of the website is the view of the Japanese, which is not the case. i voiced my opinion to the administrator and the next time I tried logging on my account was banned. I won't visit Japantoday.com ever again. Not worth the headache.

Very Biased web Site. It is a website that takes feedback from users. but if they don't agree with your views, your reply will be deleted. Their rules also say no insults but all the insults directed at americans are kept up. Like "Who is Dumber..Bush or the American People" This thread implies that Americans are dumb. an Insult. I complained about this and got a reply saying the thread wasn't insulting and it would remain up. [...] There news articles are ALL reprints. And many of their articles contain misinformation. A very bad website

Then those types of people will love JapanToday.com
The site is Anti-Japan Today or Anti-America Today, March 7, 2005 Reviewer: QooQ - See all my reviews The webmaster clearly stated [...]remarks against Japanese are allowed on the forum beceuse Japanese is not a skin color. But he has deleted the comment after receiving protests. Some moderators/admins have clear intention to lead the discussions to hate Japanese or Americans. So I always wonder the site may be controled by some kind of political activists?
Very Distrubing, March 15, 2005 Japantoday runs a sex forum were underage girls are posed in sexual positions. There are threads asking for Japanese school girl pictures, http://forum.japantoday.com/looking_for_japanese_schoolgirl_pics/m_141043/tm.htm And a former moderator posts pictures of naked very young underage girls. There is also a post in the news section that has a picture of a 12 year old chinese girl urinating on a Japanese flag. I find this type of material to be very lewd and in very bad taste. It boarders on child porn, if it's not child porn itself. This site should be reported to the authorities.

In Korean society today, there are numerous explicit discriminations against race, sex, age and class in all aspects of life. There are also rather implicit discriminations against the schools you graduated from or your hometown. Another type of subtle discrimination is the one against people who are different from us: "If you are not one of us, you will be excluded." This jingoistic attitude can be easily extended to newcomers, outsiders and foreigners.
South Korean soldier accused of assaulting American Erik Slavin, Stars and Stripes Pacific edition, Saturday, January 27, 2007
CAMP RED CLOUD, South Korea ? A South Korean soldier faces trial in a military court, accused of sexually assaulting a female U.S. soldier at Camp Casey on Dec. 19, 2nd Infantry Division and Ministry of National Defense officials confirmed this week.
The soldier’s first hearing in the South Korean military court is scheduled for Feb. 2 in Dongducheon but will be closed to the public, a defense ministry spokesman said.
The 6th Infantry Division soldier has been jailed since his arrest, the spokesman said.
Officials declined to name the South Korean soldier.
He is accused of assaulting the woman on the last day of the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division’s Warfighter exercise, which included about 1,200 U.S. soldiers and a South Korean contingent.
U.S. officials declined to offer further information until the trial’s conclusion.
However, one eyewitness and another soldier close to the incident said the alleged assault happened between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. at the Warrior Exercise Barracks, where soldiers from other bases sleep during long training exercises. http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=42061&archive=true
Men Arrested For Murdering Two Women and Selling Them as "Ghost Brides" Shaanxi, China: 35-year-old Yang Donghai and two accomplices have been arrested after they murdered a woman purchased from a poor family and a prostitute in order to sell them as 'ghost brides'. The woman from the poor family thought she was entering an arranged marriage but was instead killed and sold for a profit of 4000 yuan. The prostitute was sold for 8000 yuan. Yang said he would have killed more women for money if he had not been caught. The ghost bride trade is fueled by the belief in certain parts of China that if a man dies unmarried a dead woman should be buried with him to give him a wife in the afterlife. Normally ghost brides die of natural causes. http://www.shortnews.com/shownews.cfm?id=59814&CFID=11661579&CFTOKEN=74244442
3 'ghost bride' killers arrested POSTED: 0259 GMT (1059 HKT), January 25, 2007 BEIJING, China (Reuters) -- Chinese police have arrested three men for killing two young women to sell their corpses as "ghost brides" for dead single men, a Chinese newspaper reported, warning the dark custom might have claimed many other victims.
Yang Donghai, a 35-year-old farmer in western China's Shaanxi province, confessed to killing a woman bought from a poor family for 12,000 yuan ($1,545) last year.
She thought she was being sold into an arranged marriage, but Yang killed her in a gully and sold her corpse for 16,000 yuan, the Legal Daily reported on Thursday. He and two accomplices then killed a prostitute and sold her for 8,000 yuan before police caught them. "I did it for the money; it was a quick buck," Yang said, according to the paper. The front cover features awesomely grotesque caricatures of foreigners and the back has a helpful chart informing us that of the 47000 crimes committed by foreigners in Japan this year, none of them were committed by Americans, Canadians, Australians or Europeans. Perhaps a little premature on the part of the publishers. It also provides a handy rating of how hazardous each country is with China coming in first at 14, with Korea trailing at 9.

半分だけ。 If Korea truely believes that the Liancourt Rocks is Korean territory, Korea should fight in the International Court of Justice as Japan demands. Korea claims that it has clear-cut evidence and proofs to support its claim, and that nothing can deny the credibility of these proofs, therefore what Korea should do there is to submit them. Korea says that Japan can put a pressure on the Court and can change the result, but such a claim to the Court can be an insult to the Court.

Murder made in China THERE WAS A time when Americans worried about China because it was communist. But times change, and today the reason to worry about China is that it is capitalist -- in an especially unrestrained, unprincipled way.
Some baleful consequences of China's idolatry of pure market forces are illuminated in a new report from Amnesty International on Chinese arms exports: ``China: Sustaining Conflict and Human Rights Abuses." The Amnesty report is particularly compelling because it is free of ideological or geopolitical polemics. Amnesty's purpose in disclosing Beijing's arms transfers to murderous regimes in Sudan, Burma, Nepal, and Iran is simply to help protect the victims: to defend the universal principle of human rights. http://business.iafrica.com/transcripts/596155.htm

But a recent attack on the civilian Internet is causing DOD officials to re-examine whether the policies under which they fight cyber battles are tying their hands. The danger is real, officials say. On Feb 5, an organized group of hackers perpetrated the most powerful set of attacks since 2002. The attacks targeted UltraDNS, the company that runs several servers that manage traffic for domains that end with .org and other extensions, according to several reports.
Although the hackers made efforts to conceal their identity, large amounts of rogue data was traced back to servers in South Korea, the reports stated. The Associated Press wrote that a traffic server operated by the Defense Department was affected.
