I was about to creat a new thread at the end of the previous thread when I thought better of it, because the next thread was already set up and someone linked me to the new one.
>>26 I hate you! I dont wanna you masturbate me! It's not for you here! The nature is NOT to sale! Never talk about me! Can you please respect my privacy? I just want a usual life!!
and now, how `bout talk `bout HW celebrity?? such as Paris Hilton, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Natalie Portman and more! but i guess you here dislike like this, right?
>>39 Angelina is hot and a good actress as far as I've noticed. Johnny Depp is a brilliant actor. Natalie Portman is okay, I guess? I need to see the movie Leon with her. It's truly a shame that I haven't seen it yet. I've heard nothing but good things about that movie.
>>41 yea, angelina is the hottest thing of HW... Mr.&Mrs.Smith is especially incredible awesome movie on their quite prime action!! and to be candid, im not so familiar with Natalie... yet i love Reese Witherspoon... she star on “Cuty Brond” and New “Walk The Line” Do you know of it?
>>44 Legally Blond? I've never seen her movies. I do know what actress you speak of though. And I don't know if Angelina is the hottest in HW, but she indeed is hot. I haven't seen Mr & Mrs Smith yet.
I'm in the mood for sandwitches for my breakfast. But the trouble is, I don't have any bread to cook. I have to give it up and change my mind. What do I eat? Well, instant noodle shounds good enough. There is a stock of it in the cabinet. Yes, I think I'll eat it.
Bad news. As we anticipated, the four of the large-hill representatives didn't get even blonze medals. No medals means no enthusiasm. What if we don't get a single medal?
>>46 No, I don't dislike Reese. I just can't give a proper opinion of her, because I haven't seen her do any acting. And since she is an actress, she should be judged after her acting skills. She's pretty, but Angelina's more my type when it comes to her body structure. I don't have a good enough check on all the actors/actresses in hollywood at the moment, so I can't really give a good opinion about who's hottest.
>>50-51 Good for you! Keep up the good work! You serve as an inspiration for the ones in less good shape in this thread. A little can do so very much, if it's done regularly.
If our figure skaters fail to win a medal, Japanese citizens will start thinking why JOC didn't try to let Mao Asada in the Olymic competition. They didn't even call on IOC to consider MAO in the running. They were lazy. Should've done it!
>>60 Thanks for the info. I just took a quick look at the photo. And honestly, she struck me as a little older than she is. To me, she looks 30 or something.
According to a media report, Arakawa Shizuka is expected to get a blonze medal. I don't know much about figure skating, so I don't figure out why Suguri Fumie isn't. To put the two of them aside, it's convincing Ando Miki will not get successful in getting a medal after watching her ferformance in the last few competitions held in Japan. She didn't jump well.
Do you know about the World Baseball Championship? It's going to take place soon. I was surprised that Ichiro of Marinars would join the Japanese team. Isn't it exciting to think he will be at bat as a first batter?
I don't speak English well. Could you please tell me how to brush up on my English. What I want to know is, 1) How to discribe things when you watch them. 2) How to say what's in your mind when you need to say it. 3) How to retain your words you learn by heart. 4) Why you can't speak fluently. 5) Why you take lots of time to speak simple sentences.
>>67 1) That depends entirely on what you're watching, how you want to convey what you want to convey. In other words, you need to build up a vocabulary supply of words you can use, as well as seeing examples of common ways of describing things. So, study words, read books, watch series/movies and listen to audio samples.
2) Don't worry about conveying exactly everything in your mind, even natives aren't likely to immediately cough out whatever they wish to say perfectly. But do what was in #1, it applies to this too.
3) Humans have a passive vocabulary, and an active vocabulary. Your active vocabulary consists of the words you frequently or less frequently use, your passive vocabulary are the words you don't really use because they either feel unnatural for you to use, or because you're not sure about their exact meaning and usage. In order to not forget words you've memorized, you need to use them. Either by reading/hearing them, or by using them in your own sentence compositions.
4) If you can't speak fluently, you need to practice on learning to build sentences, and to use your phrases.
>>67 5) Hmm? Define simple sentences? The important thing about what you write is that it's communication. Communication is passing information from person A to person B. In order to do so as efficiently as possible, you can convey it in various ways. Always remember that you're not saying things just for the sake of you talking to yourself, but in order to tell someone something. Sometimes, using simple sentences is the best option, that depends entirely on your target audience. And as well as conveying the information you wish to convey, you can also convey other things, like your personality, mood, how you feel about the other person, and many other things. All those things color how you compose the package that contains your attempt at relaying information. The more practice you have doing something, the easier it will be for you. Practise making sentences of your own, and listening/reading already existent sentences. Try to think in English instead of translating from Japanese to English. Practice thinking in English, if you can't find the exact word you want, substitute with the closest one you know without resorting to japanese words.
>>68 Very educational. More often than not, I feel frustrated when writing in/speaking English, by the fact that I can't express what I really want to convey or even a word won't come to my mind in a bad case. Thinking in English sounds very beautiful and I really very want to do it, but truthfully, it may be one of the hardest things for me to do. I'm not a bilingual, and I can't be. You might think I'm very negative and I should stop taking things seriously. Don't worry. I'm not horribly negative, no. To be frank, just a bit so.
By the way, this thread sometimes goes as silent as a pin. If there's a fan of Ando Miki coming here, we should talk to him with quiet, resolute defiance. He cannot have a great time without talking about her. But we should accept him to some digree. Rather, it's better to put him to use as a motivation booster. He is very talkative, isn't he? If he turns up here, this thread gets very energetic and active. I like it best when a bunch of people are rushing to make use of this thread, having a chat. So I don't care if a person is having a row with another, chatting merrily, or talking about something serious. Anything goes, as long as you speak English. That's what the thread is here for, isn't it? Just to clarify, though, you might not want to copy and past so called AA, It really gets on my nerves. And even if your discussions, rows, or arguments get too heated, it's best to try not to put down your posters. That's because if they get too indignant to post here again, it naturally means fewer posters here. I don't like it. Try your best to be deplomatic with people. Then, good luck and have fun chatting, guys!
Yukorin often makes news because she's popular. Incidentally, I was mildly surprised that in a tv show, some girl wanted to have Yukorin leading Japan as a prime minister. I think she's gone too far. Yukorin is surely pure and innoccent, plus cute and beatiful. But that doesn't mean she has what it takes to be a prime minister. The girl must've been a Yukorin's maniac. I won't take the side of her.
>>71 I agree with your sentiment. While I am not interested in idol chatter (sorry for the pun), as long as people are speaking English that is all that matters. I think the Olympics have helped this thread in recent days a lot.
>>70 *shrugs* "An old Usenet saying tells us that to every complex question, there is an answer which is simple, understandable, and pleasant, and plain wrong. People love to accept simple answers; only later do they realize they were wrong. More harmfully, many wrong answers have the nasty feature of "working" at first sight. It's much more harmful to get such an answer than to get an answer which turns out to be bogus the first time you try it." Better a tl;dr type of reply than a short sentence that won't do anything but serve to frustrate >>67 even more.
>>71 It's always frustrating to learn a new language well, you're far from alone. Learning to think fluently in English is rather difficult, and will take some time, but as long as you keep it up long enough, it will happen. I don't see you as too negative, merely frustrated. When one has mastered something like ones own native language, and then try to learn a new language, it certainly is frustrating that it's hard to do something that adheres to such a far lower standard than what you can produce without effort in your native language. Though I must say, your English seems fine to me. You really don't sound like someone who has a lot of problems with phrasing yourself in English.
Also, it seems to me that Japanese far is more poetical than English. I don't know Japanese yet, but all what I know about the language and the history of japanese poetry certainly suggests that.
"Lo Logla Plipursei Loglan Vocabulary by James Jennings
* Mi tsodi lopo dricia. I hate memorization. * I lopo dricia ga puncko; Memorization is painful. * Ice mi tsodi lo puntu. And I hate pain. * I na lepo mi setfa le purda lemi smina guo, When I place a word in my mind * De vijbangoi lia lepo le perla ga clidyfea sau le bitse je lomi cetlo dedjo. it disappears like a pearl slipping from between my wet fingers. * I kanoi ri vidre ga koerdjicea duo su versa, a su fu tradui, If ideas are strung together in the manner of poems and proofs * Ki tie lepo no trati gu da nitmao da vi lemi smina then with no effort they arrange themselves in my mind * Lia le bilgra snedua ja nu madzo ba le bilgro djula like a wonderful necklace made of the finest jewels. * I lepo takrulsei cirna ga fasru. http://www.loglan.org is rather interesting. A pity I don't have the time to learn it.
VIPPERs really aren't trolls (I'm sure some are, but for the most part). They mostly just copy pasta AA and hold down the w key a lot. VIPPERs : 2ch :: GNAA : slashdot
Eh, now that I think about it the analogy really does not fit really. GNAA does some actual trolling and not a lot of crapflooding. Maybe the analogy would work better with bantown(a subset of GNAA), but they are not all that well known.
>>95 It tastes rather good, thank you. And I don't have any favourites in figure skating. My grandmother, may she rest in peace, was rather fond of it. That gave me a bit of an interest, however not enough to actually keep track of good figure skaters. But I certainly won't turn down watching it if I don't have anything important to do. I saw some figure skating a number of days ago, male single figure skating, I think it was. How do people learn to distinguish so quickly between various moves? I found out last week what the difference between a flip and a toeloop was (it had looked the same to me before that) and the differences really were minimal o.o;;;
Finally, the time has come when the figure skating competition takes place. Ando Miki is perfoming as the 14th participant, and Arakawa Shizuka as the 20th or so, followed by Suguri Fumie as the 27th. I am looking forward to them skating and hope they will win a medal.
According to the Japanese media, the three of them will get successful, but it sounds too optimistic of them to ignore the Rosian competitive skater Irina. So we'd better hope one of them to get a blonze medal at best.
Suguri Fumie looks as if she's an angel. She's beautiful and sexy. Her pleading and beseeching expressions on her face in skating is very appealing to me. I like her a lot.
In my mind's eye, you guys are sitting right in front of TV and waiting for figure skating to begin. You might as well get connected to 2ch to chat as be absorbed in silly TV programs. You should make it clear who you are in favor of!
>>96 surely there's also only minimal differences for me... i don't know n don't wanna know why they can distinguish those.. cuz we are neither referees, commentatories nor experts...rather have no interested in it... just like shizuka!! lmfao
nevertheless i got worry about your grandma!!! does she feel fine? what's her age?
Who published the magazine? Of course, it's an american. Sure, Shizuka may come across as a bit exotic to them, but still Ando Miki has been hot for years here in Japan.
However, as I said, I'm a fan of Suguri Fumie. I see a lot in her.
>>115 well, i think Fumie is exotic rather than Shizuka for maybe American and Japanese.. and then i didnt know how she and her skating attract people, but now i know nothing but her sexy expression... this's the best among any figure skators except faces, bodies or liking to them!!
I didn't say Shizuka is ugly or everything. She looks good. But the point is she doesn't wear any expression on her face when she skates. On the contrary, Suguri does. That's why she seems very attractive.
>>121 umm, actually i've been following chats of this thread... but you say“Ah! I can't wait any more”makes everybody on the world lil bit horny!!! you should move or write after thinking considerations
>>128 really?? if it was a truth, she must has quite strong fortunes!! how come she does, i wanna her to divide her fortunes, if i could.... this's just unfair!
>>129 It's true. Mino Monta called on her to answer several quizes in the TV variety show, and she did it correctly. And yes, it was unfair. Considering how much money JOC will give her if she win a gold medal, 5 million yen is much too huge. There must be many people who live from hand to mouth.
>>131 ohh, now I hear such an unfair stuff from you and decided to boost Miki and Suguri, not Shizuka!! 5 million is incredible huge money!! why she is so... i can't tell you my surprising heart only one phrase... and at the same time i decided i will be who have more a lot fortunes than shizuka!! the fortunes don't mean like money, honor, or so.. it just means happiness! i pray you'll also got the happiness in the future!!
>>133 Yes, it's unfair because many people have difficulty making ends meet. But she didn't do anything corrupt. She cmplied with the rule of the TV show. So don't stop being behind Shizuka's back.
Hey! The ice hocky game seems to end. Figure skate will begin in a moment! Watch TV!
We've been talking about our representatives of fugire skating. But isn't it about time to talk about others?
Do you know about Irina Slutskaya? She is a figure skater, of course. And I'm sure you'll find her very cute and nice. Irina is most expected to be the champion of the competition.
Ah I made a mistake. The homepage of the site says it's her official FAN site.. But it's a bit funny, isn't it? If a fan of her created a page, it's not official.. I don't get it.
Oh! I foget one important thing. That is a sex. This rquires a big ernergy. So you must keep you musterbation under some decent level. Or you will be consumed. So don't ejaculate, OK?
These are storied for man, not for woman. Sex is recommended to woman before any task. It is well said that Olympic gold medalist( a Woman) seek sex friend a day before game.
Oh! I remember the story notorious for sex enhancement. A woman player had great sex with a male runner. She got a gold medal. Man lost. He said " How can we expect to win a game after running 100 M at a high full speed?"
As far as Takahashi Naoko is concerned, that is not true. She said she didn't need any boy friend if he didn't understand what she believed in. As a result, she's not been going with anyone for ages. In a sense, she is a stoic angel.
>>182 Actually, whether it's for males or female entirely depends on what kind of activity you're doing, and who's the most active one. If the woman does all the work and the man just lies still, he wouldn't be spendingmuch energy while as the woman would, which would make the woman the more exhausted one and the man the one with more energy.
The news says Kumagai Fumito, one of the board members of LD, is going to be arrested because of falsifying the financial report years ago. Horiemon will be put in the hard situation.
I don't know what u said previously so I'm not sure how you managed to figure out we have nothing in common. Well ok I'll introduce myself. My interests are... erm... books, movies, today's figure skating, culture, english, ...some of them sound gay but those I came up with on the spot. So what do you say? >>198
Their skating makes them look beautiful. I was actually stupid enough not to know today's Short Programs were only half of the whole event, so I seriously thought Irina lost the Gold she was so eager to get. So I was crying watching her absolutely perfect performance, trying to imagine how frustrated she must be to get silver but then I realised there were the Free Programs yet to be done. Duh me...
Anyway I like Arakawa, and to be honest I thought Suguri deserved to top Arakawa today. But then again I'm not an expert so I couldn't judge who's better. Sasha was a stunner wasn't she? She deserves to be first. She did so well, and I hope she doesn't make any mistakes in the free program.
Do you know about Manabe Kaori? She is an idol who loves PCs and the Internet. Her blog is popular. That's because she writes what she feels and think in it. And she has a good figure and looks cute. I like her. More importantly, as she is a fan of the net, you can't deny she is hooked on 2ch. So if I met her by chance offline, even anonymously, I would ask her out.
I was crying watching Mikity... She looked so nervous and I really wanted to support her. But you know what I didn't like Mikity until today because I thought she doesn't perform as elegantly as the other two... but! She is under so much pressure and she practises so hard so I concluded it's harsh to dislike her. Besides, she IS the only one who can spin 4 times in a jump.
>>212 Do you know what? You're kind of grossing me out because you sound like a "kimoi yastu". Your conclusion ALWAYS seems to be "Anyway I like her she's pretty". As u said earlier maybe we don't have anything in common...
>>217 I say you're desperate because you mention it too many times as if that's the point you want to make every time. I mean, ok let's talk about ice skating. And then you say Sasha and Irina are pretty, in fact everybody's pretty, and then you repeat it again at the next chance you get. So the conversation got a bit pointless you know? And then out of nowhere you mention kaori manabe and how much you like her. When you said "I'm going to ask her out", I thought you must be a nerd/geek/kind of gross and that you think about girls all day long. That kind of got me grossed out. But then maybe you don't notice because you're you.
I myself like science fiction mostly. Some of my favorites are cyberpunk (Neuromancer for instance), but I also like Dune and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Gallaxy
I'm way sure Arakawa Shizuka will do well. Many Japanese expect her to make it, as well, because she's less than a point behind the current top skater. But what if she fails? There's a chance she does. On that case, I hope you will not get irritated. Let's see a bright side. Another our representative, I mean Suguri Fumie, can make up for Arawaka's mistake. Suguri is at the 4th place now.
Finally, Japan could get a medal, to say the least! Happy!
>>249 Sadly, she is completely out of the running, Mikity. She's at the fifth place now but more than 10 skaters are supposed to perform. But I know she did her best.
>>244 4-ch is a board like 2ch run by an Australian at ttp://4-ch.net/ VIPPERs recently have been visting, so it might be a tad bit messy Most of the boards are in English, but there is one mixed Japanese/English board You aren't likely to be harassed for posting on the other boards though as long as you at least attempt English
>>275 If you really want to be friends with her, be polite and seize the moment. I mean, always try best to get around her. And try best to be as enthusiastic as you can in her presence, so she will notice your presence. Then next, don't feel coy and embarassed to talk with her. You don't have to wear a serious look on your face. It'd make her nervous. Do be as casual as possible. If you persist in talking to her like that, she'll consider you as your friend. Good luck. I hope you two will be good friends with each other.
>>265 Emma Watson? What do you see in her? If you ask me, there is a more suitable word to describe her: Mud blood. She plays Hermione, one of the witches in Harry Potter, who has muggle parents. She is referred to as Mud Blood. How can you say a Mud Blood is an angel? There's no telling she is an angel. On the other hand, Sasha Cohen performs gracefully on the ice skate link like an angel literally. No wonder if she had wings on her back.
No Japanese dare to contradict those who are in support of Shizuka for fear of getting a snide remark like you're a trechery if you aren't happy with her success! But honestly, I don't bring myself to pay tribute to her because of Suguri. Didn't you see her answering almost in tears to the interveiwer? Her voice was trembling. But she didn't lose control of herself. I was more touched by Suguri's defiant attitude than by Shizuka's success. So in my veiw, Suguri deserved a gold medal, although she didn't actually achieve it.
After I watched a TV report, I changed my mind. Contrary to the other two fugire skating representatives of Japan, their folks of great wealth, Arakawa Shizuka accompreshed worldwide fame from a humble background. Her mother has been supporting Shizuka for almost 20 years, both economically and mentally. I was moved. Without her mother's solid support, her performance would have fallen through. The point is, Arakawa Shizuka encouraged all Japanese to keep up doing their best through her performance, even if they are in trouble or faced with hardship now. In other words, let me quate a proverb, if there's a will, there's a way.
By the way, though, I don't want the Japanese media not to beatify Shizuka's everyday life too much, though it happens as is often the case with them... It will ruin our aspirations.
When I am in deep melancholy, there are 2 things that can solve my tragedy. one thing is listening to old music懐メロ、the other is looking at Tenkarin pictures. If Tenkarin were my girlfriend, I would be very happy then....
re: >>314 How can they offer HIV tests with immediate results? I believe that to be vary irresponsible. There is a test that can be done to the HIV antibody that is farily straight forward, but you need to be tested at least twice over at least 65 months. While these tests might reveal that someone is infected, I would be more worried about someone thinking that the test proves they are not. They might then not use protection because of these tests, which are probably not done by a professional!
>>322 Hoping I'm not going to come down with a cold again, fairly alright otherwise. You, yourself?
>>323 I don't know how certain rapid HIV tests are, I found a page on it through google, though http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/rapid_testing/ Sadly I don't have the time to read it right now, need to finish studying before it's too late to think straight today. And I have to agree about that it's worrysome that people might think they need to use protection because of the tests, however, i think that it's far more likely that the tests will change nothing, except for making it clearer that there is a danger with unprotected sex. I think, the best thing would be to make teenagers fully aware about the dangers of unprotected sex. I'm thinking, sexual education at school would be a good idea, though it would need to be very well designed, if the sexual education will be given by the regular teachers. I think that they're likely to be terribly embarassed and have great problems with doing their duty. But that's just a guess. Bigger and more public condom advertisement campaigns, too, perhaps? Not sure on how they'd pull that one off, though.
according to wikipedia: ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV_testing#Rapid_or_point-of-care_tests "Rapid or point-of-care tests Rapid Antibody Tests are qualitative immunoassays intended for use as a point-of-care test to aid in the diagnosis of HIV infection. These tests should be used in conjunction with the clinical status, history, and risk factors of the person being tested. The specificity of Rapid Antibody Tests for in low-risk populations has not been evaluated. These tests should be used in appropriate multi-test algorithms designed for statistical validation of rapid HIV test results. If no antibodies to HIV are detected, this does not mean the person has not been infected with HIV. It may take several months after HIV infection for the antibody response to reach detectable levels, during which time rapid testing for antibodies to HIV will not be indicative of true infection status. A comprehensive risk history and clinical judgement should be considered before concluding that an individual is not infected with HIV."
>>329 I agree, I think it's also an excellent opportunity to inform them about the other dangers beside aids that they risk putting themselves through when having unprotected sex. Ruining your life is never a good thing.
I do think that the awareness of safe sex and such should be raised. Sexual education needs to be done by someone, be it the schools or one's parents. I cannot speak from experience with these tests, but it seems like they are given vouchers to go to a clinic? I got the impression that it was a right then and there thing from reading the article the first time though. The picture seems to back this up, maybe they are refering to different instances?
>>329 Giving the instant test without explaining the need for a follow up test months down the road would be a bad thing. Getting people tested is good, yes. However, one must avoid the caveat of people thinking it is ok because they got tested.
>>332 Two different set-ups. 1. Free vouchers to go to a clinic for STD tests but _not_ HIV. 2. On the spot HIV tests.
In neither case does it say what information is given or discussed although you can assume that there won't be very long conversations with the on the spot tests.
What's going on in 4ch? I haven't visited it for a long time, and today the site seems full of mess. To be honest, I don't like it. I won't post there in any case unless it becomes a bit more quiet.
>>344 money can buy men too. The question is, what people you wish to buy and how. If you want to buy someone to be yours for a long, long, long time, that will not work. Because you will both become gravely miserable, such is the curse of money-purchased loyalty and love. If you wish to buy a non-standard favour, that is easier, but favours are best bought by other reasons than money as main currency, but perhaps greased by money.
>>352 "my friends got a boyfriend, man she hates that dick she tells me every day, he wants more dinero just to stay at home well my friend, you gotta say...
I won't pay, I won't pay, no way Why don't you get a job say no way, say no way, no way why don't you get a job"
Let me tell you what she is like. Tenkarin is an infant girl. There has been a fan of her here. I once talked with him before. Last time we talked, he uploaded her photo here. It showed that she was just ten or eleven years old. Maybe she'll grow up to cute. But honestly, it's mad to say you want to get married to her now. I can't believe the poster considered going out with her. I'd say he must give her up.
After MAS decided to leave this thread forever, no native speaker's turned up here where there are a bunch of idol maniacs haunted with a silly idea that they can get get married not only to Japanese idols, but also to overseas actresses such as Emma Watson. I don't say they should drop their enjoyment like that, but they might keep it secret. I think MAS felt tired of talking with Emma maniacs. That's why he left.
We should reform this thread to lure as many people to come here to stay as possible. Otherwise, 4ch will replace 2ch.
In my opinion, Emma's maniacs are ok, but we should expel Tenkarin's. She's too young to chat about here. If we are successful in getting them out of here, it'll do the trick for now. Many people will come back and talk about something else. Politics, Science, Ecology, anything will do.
By the way, It seems to be that warehouse man who is Emma's stalker, hasn't been here for aseveral weeks. I hope he is right. Or did he get fired from his warehouse?
I don't know what he's up to lately, but I do hope he's alright as well. He struck me as nice and cheerful. I myself had a good time chatting with him long time ago. I mean, I didn't met him here so often. Do you know if he went see Harry Potter 4? If he did, he might have come here to talk about it enthusiastically. He couldn't stop himself from postiong here.
According to the media report, Shizuka Arakawa, the gold medalist at the Torino figure skating competition, will start studying English so that she can become a professional skater in the US. I read in some thread here that some posters felt sorry for her answering to an American interviewer only "I don't know". But I'm sure English is not so big a problem. She can skate best in the world!
Do you know about a Korean girl who plays Che Ju's little sister in the TV drama? I've realised she's cute. I guess she's popular in South Korea as well.
>>360 That is certainly untrue, for I am a native English speaker. The idol chatter can be annoying at times, especially since I have no clue who is being discussed. That isn't to say I would be interested in the first place if I did. Who was MAS though? I've only been reading these threads ocassionally since part 34. I'm not really sure how many other fluent English speakers there are that lurk, maybe 10?
>>373 Would you teach us to improve English ability for non-Englsih speakers? As you are a native, is it too natural to learn English? I don't nkow how to brush up my English writing.
>>373 I didn't know native speakers paid a visit here after MAS left. To answer your question, MAS is an English male who has an interest in Japanese culture. Unless I'm mistaken, he had been posting in the series of the threads from part 20 or something until around 40. So you would have read him if you had taken a look often at that time.
>>374 Writing English is probably easier compared to spoken. However, there is no shortcut. If you want to be a better writer you will need to read a lot aswell as write frequently. Take a topic you are passionate about or want to learn more about and write an essay in English. It doesn't need to be long, even a paragraph will do when you are starting out. Even if you do not have someone else proofread what you have written, you are still getting practice. Do not be too harsh on yourself over mistakes. English has a myriad of irregular verbs and esoteric grammar rules.
If you are worried about spoken English most of the same things apply. The best way to improve is through practice. If you are having trouble with a certain phoneme, look up how it should be done and practice in front of a mirror. Once you have the phoneme down, try it it some words in the same manner. If you are having trouble comprehending someone's speech, watching English television will help.
>>377 Thank you very much for your kind and accurate advice. I have to write English sometimes by e-mail on business. So, it's imperative to study English …. Thank you anyway. I'll try keeping a daiary from today.
>>379 Children are fickle. Especially mature feelings such as serious love, you really can't expect to find in younger humans. Children often have the attentionspan of sugar-O.D.ed ferrets. Not exactly something that breeds commitment and serious love.
>>393 Sorry for my late replay. I used the word "cute" as pretty and attractive but not matured meaning, and "beautiful" as refined more aesthetic meaning.
Yukorin might seem slow or dumb because of her way of talking, but it's her trick of letting males fall in love with her. No one really believes there exists any Korin planet in the universe, but most of her fans pretend she's right, all because of her enchantment.
Ando Miki started practicing figure skate in earnest after she watched Shizuka Arakawa performed in 1996 olympic. They became a good friends. Ando calls her Shi-chan.
>>405 I'm not an exceedingly interesting person, so I'll just assume you meant that I should pick a topic. What are your hobbies?
I enjoy reading a variety of genres of books: fantasy, sci-fi, and even non-fiction. Some of my favourites are Terry Pratchett's Discworld and William Gibson's Neurmancer. The non-fiction I read is mostly philosophical; Locke, Sartre, Voltaire, Plato, and Kant to name a few. Another hobby of mine is listening to music. I'll listen to just about anything, but I perfer triphop, ambient techno, and drum and bass.
>>410 I like reading too. In fact, I'm reading Flower's for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. It's the second time to read the book since I did it several years ago. I'm almost halfway done. But my favorite is Harry Potter when it comes to English books. I read all of the Harry Potter series over and over again. In Japanese, I love who-done-it kind of books. Intersting novels are my passion, so to say.
>>410 I like music as well. I try not to get too bogged down in genre names, but I tend to like hardcore and other techno, noise/experimental, mashups, chiptunes, some Japanese pop and game music, some non-mainstream rap, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
>>410 "Terry Pratchett's Discworld and William Gibson's Neurmancer" Ooo, neat! I highly recommend you read the other books and short stories William Gibson has written, by the way. But then again I'm biased, I find the cyberpunk genre rather fascinating. And I have to love Gibson's style and stories. Philip K. Dick has written some rather interesting stories too, even though they're not cyberpunk. And that reminds me.. I need to get around to reading the rest of the DW books I have't read yet. Though I probably should just re-read all books by now, it's been too many years since last...
Hm.. Don't mind me.. I tend to get overly enthusiastic when it comes to literature, art and other stuff. It's really been too long since I read a lot of book in one go. I've only read around ten books so far this year. And I still haven't read the two books by Machiavelli I borrowed from my boyfriend at this new years -__-;;; At least I did read the other book I also borrowed from him, immediately after getting home.. Ah well.
I'm the same as you k-tan. I have a list of books that I plan to read, but I just have not gotten around to. People always seem to recommend new books faster than I can read them.
Have you heard that there's been an arguement about the law that applies to the Japanese emperorial families? The biggest point of the discussion focuses on who succeeds the position of emperor. According to the current law, even if the would-be princess Aiko get married to someone and give birth to a baby boy, he couldn't succeed her. So prime minister Koizumi tried to revise the law to get things straight. But a number of knowledgeable-to me unflexible idiot-people spoke against him and thwarted him. Some politician said something very out-of-date. It went like this: If the next princess Aiko studied abroad and fell in love with a foreigner with blue eyes and blond hair, it would be a problem. What is the problem? That sounds very irrational to me. If Princess Aiko loves an overseas man and he loves her as well, then there's not a single reason they can't get married. So we should amend the flaw of the old law, and let her get a life.
>>424 I'm thinking it's more important to pass the position down in a straight line. So the direct children of the family should be the ones getting the position, not others unless there are no decendants at all in the immediate family About the argument they've given there - isn't it the same thing if a prince got married with a foreigner? I fail to see what gender has to do with it.
>>427 I agree with you. So prime minister Koizumi should carry out reform of the Imperial law. Unless princess Kiko, who is pregnant, gives birth to a baby boy, the Imperial throne can't come down in a straight line.
So the law should be revised to authorize the system in which princess Aiko's future babies can can succeed the Imperial throne.
>>430 I hope she gets a girl. Though with all the stress she's probably suffering from right now because of all the hubbub with the immediate future of the imperial law depending on the gender of the baby she's going to give birth to, I wouldn't be surprised if she miscarried. Must really suck ass to be her.
I don't know exactly why she stop coming here, but I read that she responded to someone, said she came down with something, and is supposed to finish up a report or something. Perhaps, she'll be back after she's finished with it.
>>431 Yeah, no wonder if she is feeling all too nervous now. The media and jornalists shouldn't make a fuss about her baby if they really care about princess Kiko.
>>437-438 Are your eyes tired? Read >>414. She comes here from time to time, although she seems too busy doing her business to spend time with us. So don't worry. She's always here with us.
>>446 And some ppl believe she got her nose jammed between train doors? Come on, it's obvious to anyone. Otherwise she must be undergoing some sort of disfiguration syndrome.
>>447 I'm under the imression that someone made her undergo horrible surgery by implying that she would lose her popularity if she remained as she looked. she must have been suffering from a pressing horror or something.
Shaku didn't expect, I guess, to be transformed into what she looks like now. It isn't what she really wanted, is it? She reminded me of Michelle Jackson...
As I see it, Shaku Yumiko is natural. I mean, she's never been surgically improved. Some of you here who persist in saying her face has been changed, need to open your eyes wide and see what plastic surgery means. The thing is, women change day by day, such as their outside and inside. Shaku may have been changed dramatically in a short space of time. But that's all. No evidence can show she underwent any surgery. To begin with, you might not take advantage of someone who is tired of reading rubish articles.
It is high time to change the subject, isn't it? How long have you been learning English?
I didn't say she is ugly or something. Don't take this the wrong way, but people say many idols had such surgery. It's just a question. You don't know whether her face have changed or not, do you? If she had undergone it before, you can't expect any chance to know how she looked as a girl, can you?
Yes, other any circumstances in which the two of you might be more than just good friend... What would you say, I was wondering if it turned out you realised you'd been a daft prick, got down on your knees and begged her to reconsider what you would do, then reconsider?
>>461 Even if you love her, you can't change from her stalker into her boyfriend. By the way you study English for 20 years, How old are you? 32 years old?
One simple question is why you are so obsessed to talk about idols like Yukorin. That is the most interesting thing to talk for you? or It's just a kind of joke? I guess your English level is quite high.
Altough you might be right, I write in this thread to get used to using English rather than to feel lonly. I watched this thread for a few days. main talk was about idols. talking little things is OK. but there are many kind of little things.movies, hobbies, and so forth. Is it difficlt to do daily talk?
I think the majority of people who write in this thread are sad gross akiba-kei otaku who devote their lives to yukorin because they can't get any girls in the real world.
Even "How's going today?" is OK. I would enjoy reading your daily life. Although I might be against at talking about Idols, It is amusing if it is not so often.
>>466 What would you like to discuss? >>478 There is a diary thread in English somewhere, at least there was. I'm sure someone with a list of links will post eventually.
Oh, my god. It's so hard to read your guys English. Nobody in America speak that kind of English in chat or IM. Why don't you guys use the abbreviated word such as ASAP or sup??
"Oh, my God. It's so hard to read your English. Nobody in America speaks that kind of English in chat or IM. Why don't you guys use abbreviated words such as ASAP or sup??"
-Western people always write the name of God with upper case letters. -Rather than "nobody", I would use "no one". -"read your guys English", now that's a mistake even the daftest Americans wouldn't make! -This is Japan. People here use "kawaii" or "NEET" but not "sup" or "ASAP". FUck off if you don't like it, you stupid hick.
This world is called three dimensions generally. And you may make what the next axis anyway because there is the virtual world, but, to the fourth dimension, it is good, and "time" is used because utility is high and is easy to do imagination.
I get possible to express a solid a position changes by a trace of a ball or speed or time of a car when I can gain the favor of a variable by time that is move.
Because it is indigestibility to me who will be rich to become than 5 dimensions, it is only words, but a thinker saying with Ouspensky is in the time when the fourth dimension axis moves linearly and I become plane in time and preach the sixth dimension axis in his dimension theory more when I add the fifth dimension axis if, in addition, I become three-dimensional in time.
Perhaps I think that it may be said in a meaning that 7 dimensions of Christ transcends 6 dimensions of ideas of this Ouspensky.
>>490 You shouldn't translate for a jerk-off like >>489 >>491 Fuck off with your Maki and Saki you're so gross you should be dumped in the sewers and spend the rest of your stupid life covered in shit.
>>487 "-Western people always write the name of God with upper case letters." I don't. But then again I do not profess myself to any major religion, in addition to my bad habit of often writing sentances all in lower caps.
>>499 Pfffft. We're not supposed to, unless you actually are talking about God as a name. Religious people call their god the name God. Some unreligious people too. But that's it.
I saw Fukuda Saki for the first time just now. She is supposed to appear in a TV drama tonight. And if I'm not mistaken, we have a huge fan of her here. He will be greatly pleased with it.
I think she is thinking about me. Her love for me is getting stronger and stronger when she is always thinking about me. I want her not to care about our age gap.
I happened to find a photobook named Days for Girs, taken by Shizuo Aoyama, who has already died in his forties. The pitcures of young cute girls on the streets are of '70 to '80, when it was still a fortunate period before the Miyazaki's murder case.
You can never ever take such pictures on the street any more. The book makes me feel not sexually excited but a sense of loss.
Hi everyone ! Hello! How are you doing? Thank you. Did you watch the WBC game between Japan and China? I think it was boring. Japan is too good and China is too bad. What do you think about that?
>>511 WBC? Didn't know it was right now. I didn't even know that China did have a baseball team. The only thing I have to state at the moment about Japan and China, is that it somehow, in some strange way, is rather amusing that Japan helped China become a communist country. I wasn't aware of that until last week. History certainly can be interesting and amusing at times.
>>512 Did you know what WBC was, K-tan? I thought europian people have little interest in baseball. And yes, China has a national baseball team, though I have no idea if they have a professional baseball league.
>>514 No, I didn't know. But then I googled for it.
I don't really have an interest in watching most sports. In my opinion, it's often more fun and a better way to spend your time actually doing some sport, than watching it. But I definitely can see why people who have an interest in a certain sport also find it very interesting to see skilled people competing against eachother in it.
Is there anybody who recently became a big fan of Mariline of the Curling team Aomori. I mean Motohashi Mari. Let's talk about her charming point. Somebody say that she is nothing but just a fat girl. Somebody say that she is really cute!
>>515 It's best to ignore Tenkarin's maniacs. Just to clarify, there are only a few grown-ups who get deeply hooked on child idols. Don't consider such kind as morally accepted here. That's completely different from Yukorin's case.
>>515 What is disturbing about lolicons? Liking something does not implicitly mean that they will act upon their lust. If one was to apply the same logic that is applied to lolicons to others, anyone that obsesses about a celebrity is a stalker and a rapist. This is obviously not the case, so why is this logic not refused in the case of lolicon?
>>516 I see. Of course, I assume some Japanese are thinking along the same way as you do. But what about the Torino Olympic? Your media might have reported a lot about it for two weeks.
Speaking of Hermione, there has been a huge fan of Emma Watson here. I don't know why he was so haunted by the thought that he could get married to her, though.
>>519 I never said that I do not roll my eyes at people who are obsessed with celebrities. And if the celebrity obsession really is a serious addiction and not just simple fandom, then they indeed are potential stalkers and potential hazards for the celebrity. There is a rather important reason for why you can't really compare celebrity fans with lolikons. Lolikons are fixated at a temporary state of female children, while as celebrity fans are fascinated with a single person. The comparison would be much more correct if you would have compared to e.g. people who have a thing for red-haired females, or non-asians having a thing for "oriental" females.
Children "expire". They grow up and cease to be children after a few years. And not to mention that most kids would get seriously traumatized by people who put the moves on them. I've never been actually molested as a child, fortunately, but at one point when I was 8 some creepy pedophile kept flashing himself outside our school, and he tried to pick some girls up, including me. He was asking if we wanted some candy, and I must say that I was rather baffled by that. I seriously thought adults had been exaggerating when they said that pedophiles would lure children with candy, because I really didn't see how anybody would be such an idiot that they'd fall for that line. When I was about 12, older guys at some point kept hitting on me. That was terribly infuriating and I kept telling them that I was only 12 and that they should leave me alone. But most of them kept being annoying anyway.
I pretty much do not like it when people are very likely to commit bad acts. That applies to someone stalking and raping a child, as well as some celebrity, as well as someone who happens to have some other feature the stalker is fixated on.
>>525 Yep. The current ruler was trying to erradicate the communists, while Japan took advantage of that he was so hellbent on getting rid of the communists, and kept conquering more and more land in China. Since that ruler didn't have enough forces to both fight Japan and the communists at the same time, he let them fight against the communists. At one point, that Japan taking power of more and more land no longer could be ignored and that ruler was forced to cooperate with the communists in order to be able to fight against Japan's armies in China.
It's rather common that countries do such things, it seems. A lot of people seem to think that history happened a long time ago, but there are many things that didn't happen that long ago.
>>527 Hmm... I could like Quidditch, though. I'm just a bit less fond of participating in team sports in the long run. And I wouldn't call myself pretty, I'm rather plain.
>>524 I agree with you that people that would act on their urges are scum; however, I was expressing the point that having the urges does not mean that you will act upon them. The analogy does not have to be totally congruent to express its purpose. Not all lolicons are child predators and you would have a hard time factually saying that being a lolicon makes you more likely to be a chlid predator. Infact, most cases of child molestation and kidnapping are done by family friends or family members and are isolated incedents (i.e. with that child only). As such you cannot logically apply the stigma of a child predator or child molestor to a lolicon; however, you and many others do it nonetheless. If P does not imply Q, Q cannot be used to imply things about P.
>>528 I should have studied history harder so as not to forget about it. What you explained to me, I slightly remembered. Shokaiseki, Mao takuto (I don't know what they were referred to in English), yeah, they must've been written about in a textbook.
Well, you'll feel bored with me. I almost forgot what exactly happened at that time.
>>511 I watched it on TV, and I found it very happy to see our representatives beating the opponents. For one thing, Japan didn't get the estimated numbers of medals in a competitive games. I felt frustrated to see some of them failed to get a blonze medal, especially when Kato Johji didn't get the gold medal he was expected to take back home to Japan. But this time I look forward to winning the championship of WBC. For another, Tamura Hitoshi, my favorite baseball player, hit a home run! That was very exciting.
Many comentators took it for granted that Japan won against Japan, but the representatives of ours would feel queasy to hear them saying so. If they had lost, they would have been bashed in a gratuitous manner. That's not fair. I would have felt very sorry for the lost game, though.
By the way, I wanted Matui Hideki to get in the team.
What has become of 4ch recently? I sometimes paid a visit to the Japanese board of it to ask a question about English expressions I hadn't known and in return to answer their questions as long as I could. It was functioning fine. But the other day, when I got connected to the site, I noticed it was full of Japanese posting ridiculous messages and it seemed less up and running than before.
Sure, it may not be a bad thing for there to be many posters who disscuss lots of things, but that doesn't mean new comers should dominate the board. They've gone too far. They don't have any thought to share a topic with overseas people. What do they go there for? I want them to go where they belong. Even if fewer posters can get into the community, I don't care. I might as well choose a bit quiet board as a devastating one like now. By that I mean, if Japanese people are excluded, I think I can't complain.
Look at the English board of 2ch, and you'll notice that overseas people sometimes come and join us, having a chat or answering questions, but they have never created so many threads as to rule the English board itself. They have tried to comply with our rules. So I must say the new Japanese posters, or trolls, should stop acting like that soon. They are just bringing shame on most of reasonable, sensible Japanese people.
>>535 They are mostly VIPPERs, but they have kind of taken over /nihongo/. Most of the 4-ch posters know them as such and will not think they reflect on normal people. I do wish they would confine their VIP antics to /dqn/ though.
>>536 Truthfully, I know next to nothing about so-called VIPPERs, because I have only visited the English board of 2ch. Apart from that, though, as I might be the first Japanese poster to the Japanese board of 4ch, I feel sort of irritated to see what's happening there now... Thanks anyway.
I'm allergic to pollen. But this spring, I'll move over to south, Kanto region from Tohoku, so I wish I would be lucky to have a kind of lag, Japanese cedar pollen finish to spread and cause such deadly sniffling.
>>565 I didn't say you get arrested because you are married to a younger girl, but because you are married to more than one female at the same time. Didn't you read that a senile idiot threatened as many as 10 females to get married to him?
>>584 I guess so, but without his obssessive professions that he loves her, at least I wouldn't have known there was a girl called Tenkarin.. He was successful in a certain degree.
>>585 I'm confused... Why were you copy-pasting the source contents of an html page here? Especially one that does nothing except for trying to displaying those files on your own floppy-disk? I said trying, because I'm rather skeptical to how great success you'd get trying to display images with no proper image file-endings. Perhaps if the browser goes by encoding rather than file name. Not too sure.. I once saw an animed jpg that way. Someone had renamed a GIF file to JPG, and the browser happily displayed it flawlessly as a GIF.
I've been reading http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/ lately, it's quite interesting. It definitely has a lot of very good advice on how to become a better person, and how to become more efficient.
And the polyphasic sleeping definitely is something I'd be interested in trying. Though that wouldn't happen quite yet, perhaps in a few years, if my situation allows it.

>>587 did >>585 hope that the HTML would render on people's computers, making them lock up (endlessly looking for files that don't exist)? Or do you think they (accidently?) emptied their clipboard buffer?
I wonder how much English intonation and pronunciation influence your understanding. If you hear "an o"L"ange juice, please" instead of "an "O"range juice, please", you can't guess what they want?
I think he means that it doesn't make sense. =P Popping a cherry is a euphemism for losing your virginity (as a reference to breaking the hymen). Boys don't have a hymen to pop, so it is a bit of a misnomer.
>>610 A lot of them also have it broken before their first time having sex. Things such as masturbation, tampons, and even an activity like horseback riding can break it. Why not just say you are a virgin?
>>608 the difference is that a woman (usually) loses her hymen due to sexual activity, but for men's foreskins' it's either a hygenic or religious problem.
>>618 I like Rock'n'Roll and R&B. For instance, I'm recently hooked on Elvis Costero's "She". It's really melodious and the lyric is empressive. So tell me, what should I go for next?
function startLoadResult() { s_load = false; var _loc1 = new Date().getTime(); var _loc2 = calcTimeChecksum(_loc1); if (!s_debug) { myLoadVariables(s_url_base + "game?action=play&" + s_url_pf + "&p0=" + s_bet + "&tm=" + _loc1 + "&tc=" + _loc2); } // end if } // End of the function
They are still running tests, and I have been absent for about a month of school. It might be an illness called "Chronic Fatigue", but it might not be.
I wonder how much English intonation and pronunciation influence your understanding. If you hear "an o"L"ange juice, please" instead of "an "O"range juice, please", you can't guess what they want?
Hi, I am a graduate student in Tokyo university. I come from Taiwan. Because the program I apply in UT is english program, I can not speak Japanese before came to Japan.(one year ago) I always speak English in the lab and spend most of time in lab, so I do not have enough chances to practice my Japanese. I want to find a friend to exchange language. I can both speak english and chinese fluently. I can only speak a little Japanese but reading is ok. I want to talk on-line in skype. if someone wants to practice with me, please send me a e-mail to this adress: [email protected] and we can disscuss how to do this language exchange. I hope I can know some Japanese friends here. ^_^
>>643 Can I ask you a favor? I have difficulty making out what rules there are that native speakers pronunce English phrases. Today, I listened to a CD and found "enacted the law" was pronounced as "enati the law". Where did "C" as in enacted go? Do you usually pronounce it like this?
>>647 You mean you want to be a sophisticated writer or something? I, for one, am thinking I'll be satisfied if I get myself across to people... To be honest, I gave up becoming a good English speaker because it seems almost impossible to me.
>>671 I know what you mean. We are made to learn exactly as many as 1945 kanjis as a school kid, but as we are using PCs and not writing them, kanjis easily escape us, especially when writing, though most of us don't have trouble reading them. Of course, there are some kanjis that are rarely used and so even somewhat-educated people can't read such ones, though.
If there were not kanjis, we wouldn't understand what hiragana/katakana means, though. As you know, kanjis have a variety of meanings in itself as well as sounds, though hiragana and katakana only have sounds. Apart from that, in my opinion, it would be a good idea if you buy a kanji textbooks for kids. You might say it's ridiculous for an adult like you to get your hand on a children's materials, but schools kids learn no less than 1200 kanjis. That's something.
>>675 I see your point. I'm lazy when learning English words. For instance, I often forget about how foreign is spelled... So we have something in common about learning a new language.
By the way, when you have a question about the Japanese language, I think we can somehow be of help.
>>676 Have you ever heard about Kanken, or a kanji vocabury test for Japanese people? "Grade 10" is for a first grade, "Grade 9" for a second grade" and you learn 1945 kanjis in "Grade 2". There are official textbooks for that exam. So I'd recommend using them and go step by step. Please note that all the languege in them are written only in Japanese. I don't know about English-Japanese kanji text. Sorry about that.
Well, you can't see what the contents of the book are in Amazon. co.jp.
Just click on this address:http://www.kanken.or.jp/tosyo/problem_f.html This is the official website of Kanken. If you get connected to the site, please click on 児童漢検 漢字学習ステップ, then 本の使い方, and another window will pop up and you will check what the contents are like. Good luck.
>>691 No, it's my fault. No sooner had I posted the question than the question occurred to me. It was the first four books, not the 4th grade book.
To answer question, though, I can't find the images of the 4 books, sorry. But I can provide the links to the pages of amazon.co.jp. that deal with the books. And if I think right, you want Grade 10, 9, 8, and 7, because the grade 1 is the most difficult exam they offer.
>>693 Ah thanks, thats what I meant, I need the pages on amazon.com selling the first 4 Grade books.
Interesting contents, I know all the kanji in that Grade 10 honeycomb picture =), so at least I'm getting somewhere.
My only learning material other than an english 300 page starter has been a manga, which I've painstakingly translated over 500 pages (and compared to a fan translation).
Thanks for the help, you've been far more helpful than I expected.
>over 500 pages That's brilliant. You said you were lazy, but as a matter of fact, you are hard-working. Yes, mangas are good materials to learn everyday expressions, if you choose mangas that are depicting everyday life.
>>701 Happy for you. But if unexpected things should happen such as a suspension of shipping the items and you need to e-mail a claim form or something in Japanese, then we would be of some help.
haha...I've done nothing but translate some stuff into english and I got several trolls on me already. But, I'm actually flattered and I'm using their flamebait to study. (hee hee) man...if I had a nickel for every time I got called a "farmer"... lol
>>713 I'd ignore them if I were you. There's a big difference between having heated discussions and speaking badly in a gratuitous manner without a reason. They are gits deriving enjoyment only from jeers, just because the board uses the anonymous posting system.
By the way, can you give me a favor? I'm listening to English now and trying to transcript some statements. Do you think "A tug boat is pulling a verge on the river" makes sense? If it is, I'll be pleased if you explain what the "pull a verge on the river" part means. I'm not sure if I'm correct...
Actual Bush's best friend is British Prime Minister Blair, not this small islands nation's minister Koizumi. But Koizumi feels Bush is his best friend. His mschievous idea make me laugh...
Hahaha, I really wish that could happen, but the truth is that Americans are too attached to their bi-party government to allow a third party to really flourish and take roots.
Dude, nothing personal, but Paris Hilton is a loose skank. You could totally do so much better. Maybe you could hold a contest to pick the best piece of ass the US has to offer.
Then people in USA would get thier national holidays at least doubled or 10 times. Japan should do so, LDP DPJ and communist socialist ate very bad party or ideologies! NEET is the best ideology!
That might prove true if you take a full time job at a corporation or something. Maybe taking a part time job would be a better choice, just something to be able to pay rent. Then again, I don't really know what the cost of living in Japan is. The best balance would be to get some decent cash flow coming in for the minimum hours worked. Then, proceed to spending the rest of the time partying and living life to the max.
We should get aware of the fact that even NEETs are not immune to aging which is creeping in on Japanese society. Aging NEETs without families to rely on would be unequivoally miserable. Their parents whose shoulders NEETs can cry on at the moment will kich the bucket soon. Do not turn the blind eye to this stark fact and ponder over what to do next.
Whether we are a loser or not depends on whether we think we are. However, more's pity if we are so full ourselves misunderstanding that we have the world by the tail and don't care for others.
>>759 The manga with the NEET who sees himself as being in the middle of a big conspiration theory? I think my boyfriend showed me a little bit of it, I should read the rest. Was rather strange in an interesting way.
It'd guess it is easier with an American phone, seeing as there are only 26 letters in the alphabet. But I'm not sure, I've never used a Japanese phone.
It's impossible for me to talk like a native speaker. There are millions of expressions. More importantly, I can't figure out what expresssions are appropriate, and why they sound natural. I'm sick of it.
Cooolllddd... I just got home from a birthday party. The wheather has been ridiculously cold this winter. I think I'm going to slip into a hot bath and possibly fall asleep there. -_-;;
>>771 Depends on the native speaker, I'd say. What differs between a native speaker and a very good foreign speaker usually isn't the active vocabulary, but the substancially larger passive one, since the native speaker automatically is fed the popculture that is associated with the language, while as foreign speakers outside of the country has to make a more active effort. You don't have to worry about excelling native slang, as long as you can make yourself understood well and do not feel bad nor embarassed about asking what a thing refers to, if they're using some sort of slang or reference.
And just use your common sence. Overseas people aren't that differrent :) Btw. I don't know about japanese phones, but all phones here(Holland) have autocomplete.
>>772 I wonder how you've been learning English, K-tan. I don't know what things are like about English education in your nation, Sweden, but it must be very good in such a way as to get people used to English.
In Japan, we have been having heated discussions about whether elementary school kids must study English or they have to put more effort in learning the Japanese language. Personally, the earlier, the better, because it takes greater efforts after appropriate periods when it comes to learning secondary languages. That said, I don't deny the importance of your mother language.
So I'm curious to know whether Swedish people learn English as a child.
By the way, take care of yourself and sleep tight.
No I mean autocomplete words... let me give an example: When I type 4 3 5 5 6 plus a 0 then the word is 'hello'. (The zero lets you go through all possible words and as my phone has both the English and Dutch vocabulary enabled, 'hello' isn't the most probable word.) This system is called T9, predictive text input. Which makes for great messaging speed :/
I have one question for somebody of American. How about severity of American-segregation nowadays? This question's might be rudeness, but i heard American, especially south americans usualy do that. and i remembered the"KKK". for last, idon't wanna ANY answers of it from part of RedNeck!lol
>>787 Not only that. There are many big k-1 fighters from all over the world. Holland fighters knows a lot about what fighting is. Quick and skillful, plus great strategies. Pay more attention to them.
>>788 I think there is a study which shows that us being the tallest in the world is not because of genetics but because of our diet and good environment(health care etc.) >>789 I don't know anything about K1, please excuse me for that. Statistically speaking: The chance for a great fighter to arise is higher in a country with more tall people. Other fighters might also be tall, but came out of a smaller pool. Thus the chance on a combination of great physique and a great brain is smaller. But you are totally right that fighting is not only having a great body. (Sorry, again more than 3 lines :)
>>791 I just don't know how you do some study on why some people are tall. You just can't definitly say anything according to any studies. So, I think tall people are born from tall people. That's just a coomon knowledge and correct.
>>791 I hate to say this, but I'm feeling very sorry to hear you don't have even a little interest in k-1, not to mention to know about it. Why? Your country is the world-best with regards to raising great fighters. You should be behind thier back. I hope there will be a chance of your seeing any one of k-1 fighting grand prixes.
(sorry for me posting this much) If you like anime and want to learn english I have some advice... Watch the subbed(not dubbed) versions which are made daily for the rest of the world :D.
>>796 Are you serieusly interested in how these studies are done? Well you should google on ' dutch tallest people'. As for having tall parents: This really is not common, the generation below me(my parents) had it alot worse than my generation. Both my parents are regular: 167 & 178 but both me and my brother are 205 and my sister is 177.
>>797 I really don't care about some country having better sportspeople than other countries. Its just statistics (size of county & environmental stuff like diet and education) What the human body is capable of is much closer to my interest. I'd like to see championships with drugs(anabolics etc) legalized, but that is a wholly different discussion.
>>815 is that directed at me? Sorry, did I mess something? >>816 Well, It really sounds alike and I can understand it with only 2 years of minor education in it. Somehow Germans can't understand Dutch, I think this is because they dub all their movies where we sub everything. >>817 LOL... I don't advice it, but you could do that :D:D
>>823 Cool it, kid. She's neither sophisticated nor innocent. She fools every male with nothing in mind into falling for her. Your statements made me way sure I'm right.
>>822 Just out of curiosity, if Japanese movies are broadcast, then they will be subbed?
>>824 (now writing from my bed.. getting late here :) Most japanese media is fansubbed... ttp://anidb.info/ There is some media which is dubbed by America, but as you can see from the enormous list from anidb most movies are fansubbed. Thats why I said its a great way to learn english: The choise is vast and the quality is moslt sublime.
Fans often spend thier much money money for buying idols goods and much more time for gatering events or something extra such as masturbation. but idols has sexual scandal with the rich or handsome talents. But I think that doesn't apply to Maki chan because Maki chan is too pretty. just like an angel. so she loves her fans in particular she loves me she wants to marry me. I believe so.
>>831 To tell the truth, the website contains greater numbers of lists than I expected, and a bit too complicated to find where I can get translations..
>>834 Are you out of your mind? Read what you wrote. You were contradicting yourself. Thinking of idols as angels will not be in your best interest. You'll be sorry again. Believe me. You left Yukorin for Maki, then who's next? You know what I mean?
>>835 Thanks, but I need to know about torrents more. I know next to nothing about it now. What can I do with that? It's hard for me to get new knowledge through English, though...
I can give you loads of trackers, but a google querry for 'manga torrent' will help just as good I think. But remember its all legal for us here(as its not licensed here). I don't know how about the japanese standpoint on leeching...
>>838 download utorrent.. install it... And you can let utorrent open the torrents or manually cut/paste the link of the torrent in utorrent. Check the japanese wikipedia on info about 'bittorrent'
If you randomly google sites, you might find some bad ones. But a virus can only enter your computer if you execute something or your software is not up to date.
If you want to test your english skilles... http://www.mrtwig.net/ Its really funny, if you understand all the reference. (Its not supposed to be for kids if you thought that)
Sorry, I can't help you there. I don't have an mp3 player and I hate Apple with a passion. If you do some research you could probably find a better deal on a similar player.
>>808 Isn't German and Dutch both from the germanic indo-european language branch, while as French is from the latin indo-european language branch? Which technically makes Dutch closer to German. However that doesn't help you that much.
In my layman opinion (as someone who's encountered and can identify a relatively wide range of languages), Dutch looks/sounds like a bunch of European languages tossed into a blender and spiced with an extra helping of vowels. I've known several people who were dutch, at one point back in 1999 I even attempted to build up a minor vocabulary in Dutch, such as common tourist phrases. I've forgotten most of it by now though, unfortunaly.
>>873 Well I'm not sure if you are saying I'm wrong or not. But as I said: German is closest to Dutch and Englisch en French are alot less close.
About the blender, I think you can say that of any of the germanic languages if you change your reference. There are even alot dutch words in japanese.. mostly just place a 'u' behind the dutch word & its japanese :D Gotta love those trading routes :)
Personally I started watching children's tv-shows in English at the age of 6, and got a bit of a head start there, but in school I had English classes from the 4th grade to the 11th grade. Though I think it's probably been changed now, as my little brother started learning English in the 3rd grade.
In Sweden, series and movies are not dubbed, unless the target audience is small children. Which leads to that you automatically are subjected to a heck of a lot more spoken English if you watch popular foreign series and movies.
That in combination with the fact that there are a lot of popular English series (mostly USAian, some British and Australian) on TV, and that probably 65% of all the movies playing in the largest cinemas are foreign native-English movies, (along with that both Swedish and English are germanic languages) makes it easier for Swedes to get decent in English with less active effort. However the silly side-effect is that we're often subjected to a lot of English when we are not needed to. For instance the last time I bought a package of dental chewing gum there wasn't a single word in Swedish on the front of the package. It was all in English, in spite of directly being manifactured and sold in Sweden only.
I'm a bit unhappy about how much I've neglected my main language. I process more data in English during almost any given day (I tend to chat with my boyfriend in English on a daily basis, if not also via phone). The vast majority of my online reading being in English. As many of the books I read tend to have been originally written in English, along with that I prefer to read things the way they were created and intended to be read if possible (i.e. if I understand that language), I often read them in English. As I get less and less actual practice with my language, I grow increasingly insecure about whether or not I remember correctly, as your passive vocabulary is no real help to your active vocabulary.
I've started to try to write more in purely Swedish, to make sure I don't fall out of practice. Most of my Swedish (in real life friends) have an unfortunate dendency to jump freely between Swedish and English. Not quite as badly as mixing words within in sentances, but an English sentance here and there in the coversation.
I need to up my skill in both English and Swedish, to be honest. English as my vocabulary isn't at all as large as what I would like, as well as needing to misspell things less, while as needing to feel less worried about the possibility of me losing my grip on my main language.
Hm.. Sorry for all the pointless rambling.. I should go to bed.. Ah well.
>>875 That aspect wasn't really what I was referring to, though.. Virtually every language has borrowed and even blatantly stolen words from other languages. Just that dutch has the delightful quality that it sounds/looks like someone composed the entire language out of morphing at least four languages into one. Just my opinion, though.
>>uhh lots English really is close to both French AND Dutch (and other germanic) languages. It wasn't until the Norman invasion of 1066 that English had any major French influence. The structure of the language is frankly germanic, but a lot of words are French (and thus latin/greek).
When should you start learning another language? As early as possible. There have been many studies on this as a part of psycholinguistic research and they all say that earlier is better. Even if it is just learning the sounds and not the syntax or vocabulary that you study early learning is helpful. That isn't to say that you cannot be as good because you did not start early, just that it might be more difficult or take longer.
>>759. I would say that he is a NEET as well as a hikky. >>760 You should read it k-tan it is hilarious. It got picked up by Tokyopop though and I doubt they have plans to distribute it in Sweden. Even then they are probably going to screw it up badly. =/
>>781 The KKK does still exist, but only in a very small number. Anywhere they turn up there is a counter-demonstration and they are looked down upon by all. Segregation is gone. There may still be discrimination though.
>>881 My boyfriend has the manga, so I'll just make him translate if for me :-D Or find myself a scanlation so that I can understand what it says without his help.
>>882 http://4-ch.net/manga/kareha.pl/1101800329/l50 has some discussion of it in English. If you do get scanlations I highly suggest Jinmen Juushin for all that they did do (up to chapter 11 I think). Evil Genius has up to 20, but they are not as good.
>>884 Tradition dictates that >>950 is supposed to start the next thread. However, if >>950 is unable to, someone else will have to do it. Oh.. Wait.. I misread that as "Who's going to start thread?"
Hi,k-tan! How are you? Do you know Maki Horikita? she is a prettiest idol in Japan. I love her? I hope you don't fall in jealous at her. That's all. Thanks.
Whatever, next time try and stay on topic and don't clutter up threads. It's cool if you have a question that is different from whatever is being discussed, but don't just make random statements.
>>887 Oh, googling informed me of that I had indeed seen her. I've seen her in one of the roles she's played. She's cute, but that in an unsexual way as she is a bit way too young for my taste.
>>877-878 Thank you for the reply and don't be sorry. I've always found it interesting to read what you write, your perspectives, and how you say it-I sometimes read up on things online and look up in online dictionaries unknown words included in your statements. And I'm sure that will sort of help me learn English. So it was a good ramble, seriously. But let's put this aside for now.
I suppose from your reply that Sweden is a completely bilingual nation, and what suprised me most was that you were feeling you needed to brush up on your mother tongue. (I don't mean any sarcasm in saying this) Things vary from contry to contry, don't they? Most of us Japanese spend lots of time studying English if they want to learn it.
As things stand now, Japan is far from an English-speaking country. But under such curcumstances, one of the local goverments in Japan decided to conduct bilingual education in elementary schools. I'm positive about it, because I myself have felt it's been tough to learn English after coming of age as I might have said before. Some Japanese are opposed to the idea, saying that leaning Japanese as a kid is the only first thing and it's worthless to study English as a child. In this day and age, they sound to me as if they prefer to be confined to their own contry. What I think is silly is that the conservative or out-dated people seems they don't speak English themselves, so they don't know how much learning a secondary language takes getting used to... That's just why I'm on the local goverment's side.
Note: If the bilingual education begin, our main langueage used in daily life is Japanese. For instance, foregin movies are dubbed and conversation between kids and thier folks should be in Japanese.
>>892 Hi, 外人さん. The kanji books you ordered from Amazon.co.jp. should be delivered to you in a couple of days. I'll be pleased when you have them in hand. And if you want other learning materials, along with the books, let me help you again. I'll search for online resources on the google seaching engine.
I talked to a Canadian guy in the cat room a few weeks ago. he told me that he read a manga called azumangadaiou, which was very amusing.he learned a lot of Japanese words by reading it. Try reading it,if you get a chance.
I live in the United States so there aren't very many places for me to learn Japanese. I watch anime in Japanese and I watch Japanese drama shows, so I'm slowly getting better.
I've never been to Japan. I've been using to computer programs to help me with learning Japanese, but I'm planning on taking some classes when I get to college.
^^ hey I'm a Canadian here I used to watch a lot of anime, and recently I started to watch Japanese dramas too. I really want to learn Japanese, but I don't get much chance to do so. >.<
^^ hey I'm a Canadian here I used to watch a lot of anime, and recently I started to watch Japanese dramas too. I really want to learn Japanese, but I don't get much chance to do so. >.< 英語 is easier XD
>>907 I see. I just thought you were a Japanese at the sight of your name.
>>908 Hi. As Japanese is my mother language, it's easier for me, though. Incidentally, Japanese subcultures seem to attract not a few overseas people, don't they?
>>913 Thanks for the info. I don't know much about the currently running mangas, but I had a lot of fun reading mangas as a school kid. Do you want to know my favorites?
My favorites are: 1)Slum Dank, which describes high-schoolers who play basketball. 2)Touch, which is a romantic and sports commedy. 3)Dragon ball 4)Turumoku Dokushinryo, or Turumoku dormitory for bachelors (my rough translation)
I really like anime and manga. I guess I'm considered an otaku...
But the series that I read the most are Naruto, Hikaru no Go, One Piece, and Shaman King. Those mangas are in the American version of Shonen Jump. I also buy manga books. I have a lot, but I buy a lot at a used book store.
The first three mangas I referred to was too well-known to us, to find any Japanese people who haven't heard of those names. Actually, they were made into animes.
>>921 Yes, those mangas' names ring a bell with me. And you will see a lot of Japanese people reading mangas on the train. Even some older people prefer to read them. It's because, I'm sure, there are several famous magazines for them.
A media report I watched years ago said overseas people did not read mangas on the train and even they didn't buy any as an adult and that they regarded mangas as stuff only for children. Is that true?
a frog walks into a bank and walks up to the teller. he sees her name is patricia whack. he says "ms whack i'd like to take out a loan of $3000 for holiday" she says "ill need to see some collateral" he hands her a small ping glass elephant. she says "uhhh...ok i need to check with the manager" he says "its ok my name is kermet jagger, my father and i know the manager" "ome moment" she says walking to the manager's office. she knocks on the door and walks in. "sir there is a frog out there says hes called kermet jagger he wants $3000 and wants to use this as collateral" she holds up the elephant. "what is it?" she asked. to that he says "its a knick knack patty whack, give the frog a loan. his old man's a rolling stone!"
>>924 It's a play on an English children's rhyme. The original goes: "Knick-knack patty-whack, give a dog a bone, this old man goes rolling home." Patty Whack is a shortened version of the teller's name (Patricia), and "his old man's a Rolling Stone" referrs to Mick Jagger (or however you spell it), the singer in the band the Rolling Stones.
It's probably going to remain like this in America for a while. More and more people around my age are getting into anime and manga now. I was one of the first people in my school to like anime. I started watching Sailor Moon when I was 5 years old.
>>931 I know what you mean. I watched on TV that new American managa authors have started creating their own mangas which were not like batman/superman or what not.
Yeah. I know a lot of people who draw in manga and anime styles. I draw that way actually. One of my friends invited me to join his doujinshi making club.
>>934 Give it a try! And if you let people read your mangas online, please let me know. I want to read them.
And in the broadcast report, book signing event took place and many grown-ups were lined up. Maybe the American mangas are in their course of cultural development.
I don't know who's a hot author and sadly I guess I can't get their mangas easily, though. Do you know any one of them? If I can buy that manga book by Amazon, I think I'll take one.
No problem. Anyways, I have to be going to bed now. But if you have an AIM screen name, feel free to instant message me. My screen name is sasukekun6. Normally I'm online but in away mode.
It was nice talking to you and hopefully we can talk again soon!
>>945 Apparently I need to write u a better description of tripcodes. How many different times did you ask and yet you still screw it up multiple ways? The string after the # should be like a password--letters, numbers, symbols, and it does not need to contain "tripcode." Only the first 8 characters after the # are used. Some characters are substituted before the tripcode is calculated (such as > -> >) so #>>a and #>>b will be the same.
Hi, dude. I want to tell you a few things. Even if you love my Maki Horikita, her heart and her love for me would never be changed. That's all. Good night, dude.
I didn't know South Korea's baseball team was this trained. SK will beat Japan two games in a row in WBC, and even defeated the US. Perhaps it will be the first champion. I'm in awe.
>>959 Hah! Neat! That would indeed be fun to have.
Personally I just tend to use mIRC as an alarm clock instead of an IRC program, as my computer tends to be turned on 24/7. I just set a timer to launch an mp3 at the appropriate time. Usually the mp3 is one of the following: - the song "Mute" by the band Moonspell - "Do Virgins Taste Better Medley" by Brobdingnagian Bards - "Tori no Uta" by some band named I've - one of the polynap mp3s at http://www.placebo.serv.co.za/?page_id=7 - just because one doesn't polynap doesn't mean they aren't good for waking up after an entire night's worth of sleep.
And then I try to jump into the shower as quick as possible to refrain from falling back asleep.
Using mp3-tracks that gradually grow more distracting with an intro works better for me than to instantly go from complete silence to heart-attack inducing contrasts, for instance abrupt heavy metal on full blast. Even though I like heavy metal too.
>>961 At one time I used a winamp plugin that had an alarm but it would gradually turn up the volume. I mostly used my normal music from my ambient techno playlist. If I really knew I needed to be up I would set it to something from Venetian Snares + Speedranch, which is noisecore/speedcore.
I use MS Outlook's reminder function as an alarm clock. It's convenient for me because I'm in college and have classes that start at different times on different days. The only problem is I sometimes forget to turn up my PC speakers before going to bed.
I use an old program called "HyperAlarm" which loads my mp3 player of choice...and find the most annoying song I can think of at the moment as the track.
