August 27, 2005 New U.S. ambassador John R. Bolton has surprised diplomats with 750 amendments to a reform document key to next month's summit. UNITED NATIONS — Faced with a last-minute list of demands from Washington, key nations met in crisis talks here Friday to head off a collapse of a U.N. reform summit of 180 world leaders next month. John R. Bolton, the new U.S. ambassador to the world body, surprised diplomats returning from vacation this week with 750 amendments to the reform document that is supposed to be the focus of the 60th anniversary summit Sept. 14. In response to the ensuing panic, General Assembly President Jean Ping on Friday named a "core group" of nearly 30 countries, including the United States, to come up with a new text before the summit. The U.S. draft significantly reduces a section on poverty in favor of bolstered sections on strengthening free-market values and spreading democracy. It deletes mention of institutions and treaties the U.S. opposes, such as the International Criminal Court and the Kyoto treaty on global warming. In short, said Chinese Ambassador Wang Guangya, the U.S. revision takes the conflict between U.S. interests and those of developing nations and rival powers straight into the spotlight of the U.N. stage, yet asks other nations to work together to protect the U.S. agenda. The question is, how much is the United States willing to give? "Each country has to defend its position," Wang said. "But you also have to work together with other members."

http://cbs5.com/topstories/local_story_227100303.html DUBLIN Police fatally shot a knife-wielding suspect Thursday night after the man refused to drop the weapon, according to a police report. Dublin Police responded to a residence on Innisbrook Way at about 11:40 p.m. after receiving a report of a female screaming. When officers arrived outside the home they were able to see through a window that a struggle was taking place in an upstairs bedroom, and could hear voices yelling and screaming, according to the report. They reportedly demanded that he drop the knife, and when he did not comply, they opened fire, fearing for their safety. Police say the suspect then advanced on the officers while continuing to hold the knife "in a threatening manner," according to the report. The officers opened fire again and this time the suspect reportedly dropped the knife and collapsed. Paramedics responding to the scene pronounced the man deceased. The suspect was later identified as 61-year-old Kwang Tae Lee, according to the report. Police Lt. Glenn Moon said Sunday that Lee was a visiting Korean national.

She spoke in Korean through an interpreter. "I lost my husband for no reason. Please have my husband come back to me. I cannot live without my husband." The deaths of Lee, 61, and his brother-in-law, Richard Kim, 49, have galvanized the Korean American community. Local leaders joined the widows at a Castro Valley mortuary where the funeral for both men was held Friday night, saying that police overreacted and that the disagreement between relatives could have been resolved peacefully. During an argument with Kim, Lee -- who was visiting from South Korea - - armed himself with a six-inch kitchen knife and went after Kim, according to police. Kim took refuge inside a bedroom of his Innisbrook Way home and braced the door with his body.

Nicholas Cage, kimchi fan? ttp://japundit.com/archives/2005/08/30/lazy-journalism-dept-2/ Occasionally, when Japanese people - and I sometimes get this vibe from Westerners, too - find that I’m married to a “Japanese woman”, I get comments like, “It’s no wonder: Japanese women are kind, considerate, and obedient, and make good mothers.” Blah blah blah. You were initially attracted to her personality? Really. There’s chemistry between the two of you? That’s nice, but you must be so happy that your wife is willing to iron your socks.
It seems that Koreans also tend to ignore personal compatibility and instead use dehumanizing stereotypes to explain “what it is about Korean women that Western men like.”
In a recent story about American celebrities who are involved with Korean women, the leftish Chosun Ilbo tries to find out why Nicholas Cage is attracted to Korean-American Alice Kim:

WASHINGTON -- The nation's poverty rate rose to 12.7% of the population last year, the fourth consecutive annual increase, the Census Bureau said Tuesday.
The percentage of people without health insurance didn't change. Overall, there were 37 million people living in poverty, up 1.1 million people from 2003. (See the full text of the report.)
Asians were the only ethnic group to show a decline in poverty -- from 11.8% in 2003 to 9.8% last year. The poverty rate among the elderly declined as well, from 10.2% in 2003 to 9.8% last year.

We also see that Japanese themselves are more likely to commit real crimes than anybody except the Chinese and the Brazilians (most of which are nikkei, that is Brazilians of Japanese descent). U.S. border agents say the hunt for terrorists is at an all-time high on their side of the border following the second bombing attack in London. Frustrated by what they say is Canada's soft stance in a fight against terror, U.S. Homeland Security officials in Washington, D.C., allowed a Toronto Sun team to patrol with agents targeting terrorists along the "world's longest undefended border." "The No. 1 priority for us is the prevention of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction from entering the country," Heckler says.
CAUGHT IN THE ACT The U.S. Border Patrol is now arresting a steady stream of Korean nationals who travel to Canada, where they don't need visas, and are then taken into the U.S. by smugglers who charge up to $30,000 a head. About 12,000 people a year are caught trying to sneak into the U.S. from Canada. Heckler says smuggling has slowed down a little, probably due to more officers being posted along the U.S.-Canada border, which now has a complement of 1,000 agents.

Reuters reported that Kwonhwan Park and his Malaysian company, SGS, told the State Department in an export application the helicopter engines were destined either for the Malaysian or South Korean military. The engines were initially shipped to Malaysia, the report said, but were eventually sent on to China. Park also attempted to obtain another four engines for the Sikorsky S-70 helicopter he said were for the South Korean army, but U.S. officials discovered the South Korean military had not ordered them. When arrested at Washington, D.C.'s Dulles Airport in April 2004, Park was heading for Beijing and had a sophisticated night-vision goggle system in his possession, Reuters reported. Concern over the theft and unauthorized transfer of America's sophisticated military technologies to China and others was emphasized by U.S. Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., in the Aug. 25 edition of Military Information Technology, a defense industry trade publication. According to Forbes, the problem may be impossible to fix. "If the Chinese want U.S. technology, they will find a way to get it," he writes. "Despite official U.S. monitoring and restrictions on the export of sensitive dual-use equipment to China, the Communist regime in Beijing still manages to acquire as much American technology as it needs to modernize its armed forces.

Sex slavery laws need review: Pru Goward PRINT FRIENDLY EMAIL STORY Saturday, 13 August , 2005 Australia's sexual servitude legislation, aimed at reducing sex slavery and people smuggling, is not working, according industry insiders. A former sex worker has told ABC TV's Lateline program that the crack down on the trafficking of Thai women to Australia has squeezed the industry elsewhere, and South Korean women are now being smuggled instead. And a report from the Australian Crime Commission this week has confirmed that the number of South Korean sex workers in Australia has increased. Thai women are still being brought out but there is a big shift with Korean, there's a lot of Korean women being brought in at the moment. But in the case specifically of South Korean women they don't have to get the same sort of visas as Thai women, they can get working holiday visas, so then they can work legally in Australia without so much difficulty. http://www.abc.net.au/am/content/2005/s1436885.htm

Chinese Court Has Jailed More Than 20 'Reactionary' Tibetans Since 1996 2005.09.01
KATHMANDU A Chinese court in the Tibetan city of Shigatse has jailed more than 20 Tibetans in the last decade for ‘reactionary’ offenses, including the possession of photos of the exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, court officials said. “The court has the authority to sentence any individual who commits reactionary actions,” an official at the Shigatse Intermediate People’s Court told RFA’s Tibetan service. The official added that the maximum penalty for carrying materials relating to the Dalai Lama or other ‘separatist’ activities was five years’ imprisonment. “Since 1996, more than 20 such cases have been decided by this court,” said the official, who asked not to be named. “The length of the sentences ranged from one to five years.”

I learned a lot about the colonisation in Congo and Leopolds II's deeds. But still, I think it is not correct to compare. During that time Belgium was much more devided into the French and Dutch sides then it is today. Belgium of that time is not the same as the one today.
I learned about the French-sided higher classes that gave the assignments, like the colonisation, and don't forget that most countries here in Europe had colonies, and surely don't expect that they treated their colonies like their own people!
It sounds unfair to me to compare this. Posted by Joeri Vlekken at September 3, 2005 05:47 AM
History shows mankind has short memory. Chinese have simply learned from the Jews: to prevent another catastrophe, constantly remind the world about Japan's atrocities in China in the first half of the 20th century.
With the emergence of China as an economic power, it seems Japan is under pressure by the U.S. to take a more active role in support of U.S. interests.
In relation to this, I have the following questions:
1.Does Japan have independent foreign policy? 2.Is the political system in Japan truly democratic? Considering the fact that it has been under one party rule for 50 years.

Therefore you guys would never be able to pick up English. But it must be hard for monkeys to understand it.

The court case concerning the Esperanza, a Korean trawler arrested for irregularities with reporting catch and by-catch commenced on Monday morning. The incident for which the trawler was arrested occurred on Monday, 29 August 2005 when the M/V Sigma, the Falkland Islands Fisheries Patrol Vessel, escorted the Korean Trawler, Esperanza into Stanley to help with enquiries. On Monday, 05 September Master Kim Yeong, and representatives of Dong Yang fisheries Company Limited of Seoul Korea answered three charges that were brought against them as a result of last Monday’s incident. Two charges concerned the miss-reporting of Fisheries Data and one charge concerned the by-catch of an “unauthorised species.” The Esperanza was authorised to catch only Ray but a small by-catch, 10%, was also authorised under the licence. According to a report on FIRS by Stacy Bragger, Mr. Yeong pleaded guilty to all three charges. The report continues that Ros Cheek, prosecuting, says that on the 26th of August the Fisheries patrol vessel, SIGMA, noticed four vessels and assumed they were fishing. When the SIGMA approached the vessels their speed increased. When the Fisheries Officer boarded the Esperanza an investigation was carried out. The vessel was only authorised to catch Ray fish with a 10% by-catch allowed. The trawler was found to be far in excess of this limit. When questioned, the Master stated there must have been a mistake in calculations made up by his crew. The hold inspection discovered amongst the catch of Ray was approximately 7 tonnes of Loligo Squid, which hadn’t been declared in the catch report given to the Fisheries Department. The value of the by-catch was estimated to be roughly £27,000.00 http://www.sartma.com/artc_1863_ALL_0.html

Yet when Japan normalized relations with South Korea in 1965, it expressed no regret or apology for the past. Just ask Frank Newman, a turnaround artist who took the helm at Shenzhen Development Bank a few months ago. When the former No. 2 man at the U.S. Treasury Department arrived at the bank, an institution with $25 billion in assets, he was amazed that there were no financial reports on the company's divisions. The bank's thick book of bad debts was fraught with surprises: One real estate loan had been neglected for 12 years. Many others, he learned, were actually collectible because borrowers had hidden assets. "In all my years of banking, I've never seen anything like it," said the 63-year-old Newman, who helped revive Bank of America in the 1980s and Bankers Trust a decade later. Chinese banks have made progress, but they're still loaded with bad debt and operate inefficiently. Weak corporate management and corruption remain a problem at many banks. Last weekend, China's bank regulator reported that 1,700 employees were held for embezzlement and other bank crimes in the first half of this year. There could be more trouble ahead. Leading analysts say China's economy is downshifting. Corporate profits are weakening, as are Chinese imports of steel, oil and capital goods. Real estate activity in places such as Shanghai is slowing.
Japanese terms, a market reformer, but this has been greatly exaggerated. In practice, privatisation, for example, has been very limited and, apart from the postal system, barely featured at all in the election campaign. No doubt Mr Koizumi's victory will be greeted as a mandate for reform. But in reality it is not unreasonable to argue the reverse. Mr Koizumi's biggest single achievement yesterday was to revive the flagging popularity of the Liberal Democrats - and thus to entrench their monopoly of power once more. ------ Meanwhile the greatest single issue now facing Japan barely got a mention during the campaign. Mr Koizumi has presided over a slow but incremental shift in Japanese foreign policy towards a more nationalist position. He is on his way to amending the country's peace constitution. Japan is slowly but surely acquiring a more global military role, with troops presently deployed in Iraq. Japan is becoming a more intimate partner in US geo-military strategy, while Mr Koizumi has deliberately inflamed relations with China and South Korea by visiting the Yasukuni shrine to Japan's war dead four times since becoming prime minister in 2001. Japan has singularly failed to come to terms with its often barbaric behaviour towards its neighbours during the last war. In this context, far from being a reformer, Mr Koizumi represents a small but disturbing retreat into Japan's past. With China on the rise, Mr Koizumi's victory may be bad news for prospects of peace and stability in East Asia.
results were a devastating setback for the Democratic Party, the main opposition, whose gains in recent elections had raised expectations that Japanese democracy was maturing into an era of two-party rule.
The victory by Mr. Koizumi, who has been one of the strongest backers of the American-led war in Iraq and enjoys a personal relationship with President Bush, will be welcomed in Washington. But it is likely to be greeted with caution in Asia, especially in China and South Korea, which view with trepidation the rightward tilt and rising nationalism in Japan on Mr. Koizumi's watch.
Mr. Koizumi's repeated visits to Yasukuni Shrine, the memorial where war criminals are deified, have harmed relations with China, whose booming economy has lifted Japan's. After his victory on Sunday, Mr. Koizumi, who has pledged to visit the shrine every year, said he had not changed his position.
The main opposition Democratic Party - which opposed the Yasukuni visits, pledged to withdraw Japanese troops from Iraq and repair relations with China and South Korea - failed to widen the focus to issues that could have hurt Mr. Koizumi at the ballot.
Korean activist braces for 'storm of fascism' By PAUL BAYLIS, Asahi Shimbun News Service
Asked whether she is concerned that her outspokenness will draw the ire of right-wing forces, she is defiant. ``I hope they send the sound trucks over and park them outside my window. I will set up my own loudspeakers and blast them right back!'' Most of those who appear to be right-wingers, she says, are just frustrated people feeling the same sense of isolation that minorities such as herself feel. Many, in fact, are Koreans, she said.
Korean Company Facing Sanctions for Illegally Exporting Strategic Materials There is the increasing possibility that a Korean company will be put under sanctions by the international community, including the U.S., because some of the allegations that it illegally exported strategic materials have been confirmed. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy announced on September 11 that an investigation found some of the allegations surrounding company K, a radioactive materials company, were true. The company had been suspected of having sold tritium, nickel 63 and iridium, which can be used to manufacture nuclear weapons, to Iran at the end of last year.
China is just a child. On the other hand, Japan is an adult because Japan understands what is moral and Japan is one of the leading countries. And no worry, Japan can treat a child.
Do you know iin those days, the situation was just like these days. China had people hate Japan and insulted Japan like a child. Even though modern China is always weak, it likes to fight. China wouldn't admit Japan is greater country. And see, China was destroyed.

I've been doing photography since I was very young. I feel my photography is good from a technical point of view but it lacks the artistic flair that truly great photography has. I capture what a scene looks like, but not the soul.
I have an old Nikon FA, the last great camera, and a variety of Nikkor lenses. The photography here is taken with my Olympus C-730 digital camera. The C-730 is a good general purpose camera.
I should add that a lot of the photos are provided so friends and family can keep up with my life in Japan, not necessarily for their artistic merit. I will try to put up some good shots.
I hope you enjoy whatever I put here, but I offer my photography rather humbly.

Japanese filly Cesario pulled away at the top of the stretch and went on to a four-length victory in the $750,000 American Oaks on Sunday at Hollywood Park.
Cesario became the first Japanese-bred to win a Grade 1 race in the United States, triggering a huge winner's circle celebration that featured the Japanese flag waving on a most American holiday weekend.
"I love America," winning trainer Katsuhiko Sumii said through an interpreter. "I've had a dream of winning in American racing; I am very happy."
Breaking from post 13 on the far outside, Cesario ran 1 1/4 miles on the turf in a stakes record time of 1:59.03 and paid $10.80, $4.60 and $3.80.
Also Sunday, Unfurl the Flag won the $350,000 Triple Bend Handicap; Splendid Blended won the $300,000 Vanity Handicap; and Whilly won the $250,000 American Handicap.

Shadows Japan Leader's Victory September 13, 2005 - By NORIMITSU ONISHI "But I don't believe they have given him a mandate in the areas of national defense or foreign policy, because he has not been successful in these areas, especially regarding relations with Korea and China." Although Japan's deteriorating relations with its Asian neighbors dominated the news here for most of the year, foreign policy went nearly unmentioned during the campaign. Mr. Koizumi's resounding victory on Sunday suggested that voters were either supportive of his government's tough posture toward China and South Korea or were willing to overlook its chilling effects in the region. "The reaction here has been that Koizumi's big victory will cause relations between South Korea and Japan to keep going in the wrong direction," said Ho Jeon Jin, an expert on South Korea and Japan at Kwang Woon University in Seoul. "Furthermore, there is a sense that Japan will move faster toward the right and, because of his control over the Parliament, will be able to revise its pacifist Constitution." September 14, 2005 London: A Chinese cosmetics company is using skin harvested from the corpses of executed convicts to develop beauty products for sale in Europe, an investigation has discovered. Agents for the company have told would-be customers it is developing collagen for lip and wrinkle treatments from skin taken from prisoners after they have been shot. The agents say some of the company's products have been exported to Britain, and that the use of skin from condemned convicts is "traditional" and nothing to "make such a big fuss about".
An agent told customers the company had exported to the US and Europe, and that it was trying to develop fillers using tissue from aborted foetuses.

Hopes and fears for Aceh peace deal By Rachel Harvey BBC News, Jakarta
The deal struck between the Indonesian government and the separatist rebels of the Free Aceh Movement at the weekend has been met with a mixture of hope, relief, caution and some nervousness.
Both sides want to give a fresh start to Aceh's new generation It is generally agreed that what is now on the table represents the best chance of a durable peace in the province since the conflict began 29 years ago.
But there have been so many false hopes in the past that few in Aceh will be convinced until all the guns in the province fall silent.
The details of the agreement are not being made public until the eight-page document is formally signed on 15 August.
But it seems that all major issues have been covered.
"Because of their small physique, they easily become targets of sexual assaults, or errand boys for others' drug trafficking," he said. "When they do not yield, they are beaten to death, literally beaten to death," he said. "I once saw a young Korean man whose nose was broken from beating."
Aside from conflicts with other inmates, Lee said, "Koreans, many of whom are recent immigrants, have difficulty communicating in English. They also sorely miss eating steamed rice and kimchi."

AP捏造 Koreas to search for hero's remains Thursday September 15, 2005 THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
The two Koreas agreed Thursday to jointly search for the remains of a national hero who assassinated a high-level Japanese official in an attempt to resist Japan's early-20th century colonization of the Korean Peninsula.
Ahn Joong-geun is acclaimed in both North and South Korea for killing Hirobumi Ito, who served as Tokyo's first resident-general in Korea after the peninsula came under Japan's control in 1905. Ito, a former Japanese prime minister, was one of the leading figures in Japan's emergence as a modern state.
One of the major reasons for Chinese and Korean public criticism of Prime Minister Koizumi's visit to Yasukuni Shrine is that 14 out of 28 A-Class Japanese war criminals are enshrined there. Seven among them including Tojo Hideki and Matsui Iwane were executed at the conclusion of the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal and the other seven died either during the tribunal or while serving their sentences. Yasukuni Shrine also sanctifies many B and C-Class war criminals, many of whom were directly responsible for atrocities committed throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Thai farmers wear multiple layers of white clothing even on the hottest summer days, to avoid the stigma of being tanned. In Southeast Asia, people prefer to spend most of their time hiding from the sun under a roof, drinking a sugar cane soda, and not accomplishing much. They will say that Chinese/Japanese /white people "work too much".

その後でNBCとABCニュースも観たけど基本的に同じ事を言ってた。 基本的に英米のメディアはそう言う姿勢だね。 http://www.jsonline.com/news/editorials/sep05/356953.asp Editorial: Don't trust; do verify An agreement intended to abort North Korea's nuclear program was reached once before, only to be flouted and later abandoned by the North Koreans.
North Korea needs to be held strictly accountable for honoring its promises; in 1994, it agreed to freeze its nuclear program in return for aid, only to renege on the deal.
This time, it should be given the help it was promised only in return for measurable, verifiable progress in the dissolution of its weapons programs.
The North Koreans double-crossed the world once before. They can't be allowed to do it again.
Tuesday, September 20 Deal unclear as N Korea demands reactors There has been mixed reaction to North Korea's statement that it will not give up its nuclear weapons until the United States provides the country with civilian atomic reactors.
A senior US official says North Korea's claim is not in line with the deal signed in Beijing.
there has been a noticeable increase in the number of Chinese and Korean residents, especially in private international schools, which were once the domain of Westerners. According to local foreign residents, the trend, which began in the 1980s, accelerated after the quake.
One area where we've noticed a real difference is in the international schools, where over the past few years there have been fewer Western children and more from East Asia, ★especially (South) Korea," said George Gibbons, a Kobe resident from Britain who recently retired as an official at Marist Brothers International School.
While exact figures were not available, a Kobe official said the number of ethnic Korean residents has seen a slight increase over the past four years.
He attributed the rise to a growing interest in Kobe as a base in Japan for South Korean professionals, especially those in the medical profession, who come to work at the World Health Organization office in Kobe.
N. Korea's Reactor Demand Could Be a Deal-Breaker The day after pledging to end its arms program, the regime puts the deal in doubt by demanding that the U.S. first provide it with a light-water reactor. Less than 24 hours after diplomats announced a breakthrough pact to eliminate nuclear arms in North Korea, the isolated communist state threw cold water on the deal today, saying it would not abandon its weapons program until the United States gave it a light-water nuclear reactor. In a blunt statement, North Korea's official KCNA news service warned that "the U.S. should not even dream of the issue of [North Korea's] dismantlement of its nuclear deterrent before providing" a light-water reactor, which it called "a physical guarantee for confidence-building." Should the United States insist on the dismantling of North Korea's atomic weapons before the provision of a light-water reactor, the statement said, "there will be no change in the nuclear issue."
Japanese Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura called North Korea's demand "unacceptable."

CRIME INFORMATION: Although the crime rate in the Republic of Korea is low, in major metropolitan areas, such as Seoul and Pusan, there is a higher incidence of pickpocketing, purse snatching, assaults, hotel room burglaries, and residential crime, and foreigners can be targeted. U.S citizens are more likely to be targeted in known tourist areas, like Itaewon and other large market areas. Incidents of rape have recently increased in popular nightlife districts in Seoul. Travelers should exercise caution when traveling alone at night and should use only legitimate taxis, such as black-colored cabs, or public transportation, such as subway or bus service. Americans should stay alert, be aware of personal surroundings and exercise caution. Travelers may reduce the likelihood of encountering incidents of crime by exercising the same type of security precautions they would take when visiting any large city in the United States.

The largest number of them, or 180,000, is found in the United States. Those in Japan numbered around 40,000, the second largest group after the United States, according to Korean media.
Meanwhile, another report said that the number of Koreans emigrating to the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand has dropped greatly in the past decade.
The report by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Seoul said reasons for the declining emigration include stricter standards set by host countries

The contrasts are detailed in the report, which provides data on such items as age, marital status, citizenship, language, education, earnings, poverty rates, occupation and home ownership among 11 Asian American groups. Median family income, for instance, ranged from $70,849 for Japanese and $70,708 for Asian Indians.
The median annual income of Asian families exceeded that of all U.S. families, and the percentage of Asians with at least a bachelor's degree was almost double that of the total population, according to the 2000 census. Median family Income Japanese (7.8%) $70,849 Asian Indian (16.2%) $70,708 Filipino (18.3%) $65,189 Chinese (23.8%) $60,058 **Asian Americans $59,324 **All U.S. families $50,046 poverty Thai (1.1%) $49,635 <丶`∀´>Korean (10.5%) $47,624 Vietnamese (10.9%) $47,103 Laotian (1.6%) $43,542 Source: U.S. Census Bureau The U.S. Census Bureau We the People: Asians in the United States scheduled for release the week of Dec. 12. http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/releases/archives/tip_sheets/003142.html
I agree that Japan must get its message out. But to be able to get the message out, Japan will have to reflect on its past. As long as Japanese politicians don’t see a problem with Yasukuni, it will be very difficult to take Japan’s message seriously:
Vincent What about your King’s atrocities in Congo? Has Belgium made official apology?
Anger at rewriting of history By Colin Joyce in Tokyo China and South Korea have complained strongly that the new Japanese history textbooks, which will be used from next year in state schools, airbrush Japan's brutal past The books have dropped references to the comfort women, sex slaves taken from occupied territories to serve the Japanese army, whereas approved school books used to refer specifically to the women and usually made clear that they were abducted.

what vincent is saying that because Belgium avoids facing its past, Belgium does not have a permanent seat in the SC and is not really a respected country in EU, I suppose. It fits vincent's way of reflecting things.

U.S. Congress lodges complaint with Seoul on MacArthur statue By Lee Dong-min WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 (Yonhap) -- A U.S. congressional committee lodged a complaint with South Korea on Thursday regarding civilian protests to bring down a statue of an American general.
The House Committee on International Relations, in a letter to South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun, said the U.S. Congress is "disturbed" by reports of protests around the statue of General Douglas MacArthur, whom protesters describe as a "war criminal."
Nolan's goal provided proof of this, as did the performance of Hidetoshi Nakata, making his first Premiership start following his summer arrival from Fiorentina. "It was a fantastic goal," Allardyce added, "an example of great skill and technique, and Nakata gave us a cutting edge which we've not quite had and this will make us more of an attacking force."

He advised that prerequisites for Korea to be included in the VWP are a higher employment rate within the country, the eradication of illegal employment of Korean women in the U.S. sex trade business, the prevention of visa-related fabrications, fraud and evil conducts by brokers, and strict management of passports.
The Heritage Foundation, a Washington DC think-tank, has recently published many reports and articles on the visa process. What is worth noticing is that the foundation argued that the US needed to expand its Visa Waiver Program (VWP) and that the Republic of Korea, India, Poland, and Czech Republic should be included in the VWP.

Hill and other American government representatives have said that the ROK cannot join the VWP until the number of illegal South Korean residents in the United States significantly declines.[33] Finally, ROK officials estimate that some 70,000 South Korean passports are lost or stolen each year and then traded on the black market, a factor that has impeded Seoul’s partici-pation in the VWP.[35]
