1. Can't help but laugh re the Planet F1 homepage "Honda : Sato will be Japan's 1st F1 GP winner"..probably but hey don't see any other Japanese drivers out there.

Today (F1Total.com) - Eight pilots tackled the third test day of this week in the Spanish Jerez de la Frontera and, besides, found again optimal conditions. Fastest one was more than 30 degrees and radiant sunshine Takuma Sato (with temperatures from brieflyCash Honda) with a minimum access of 1:17.396.
The Japanese unwound altogether 79 rounds, also more than one complete racing distance, wrong, however, the course record set up in winter of Kimi Raikkonen about 1,322 seconds and also stayed behind clearly behind the time achieved yesterday of McLaren Mercedes pilot Pedro de la Rosa.
Sato got the driver of the day award for the second time in three races. He is such an exciting driver and he is developing quite a fan club in the press room.
Partly jealous of the hype, partly angered by his moves, some of the drivers are expressing the opposite view, Massa describing him as 'mad' on Friday when they collided in free practice and Rubens calling him 'amateurish' after the failed move at Nurburgring.
I've watched Sato since his Formula Campus days, before he came to British F3. He is a sensational talent, who until Indy had not managed to put together a whole weekend of excellence. There had been brilliant qualifying performances spoiled by a mistake in the race, or a brilliant race spoiled by a botched quali lap.
At Indy he got the whole lot right for the first time and I expect the floodgates to open now. Jenson will have a really tough fight on his hands and Sato may even get the first BAR victory before Jenson. I certainly wouldn't bet against him at Suzuka, but there will be other opportunities. http://www.itv-f1.com/Feature.aspx?&Type=General&PO_ID=30499
Why does everyone give responsibility to Sato because he is a Japanese? Massa is also responsible for the accident, even not more. When a driver see a car apparently faster in the way he must escape from the way. Just as the race in Montreal at the start in the second corner, where Sato came into the "Boxengasse". The commenter of RTL:"An accident Sato is included" But hall, should he fly into the air?

So to my final predictions... Michael Schumacher will take another win, with Rubens Barrichello second, and Takuma Sato third - his run of engine failures has to stop somewhere, doesn't it? Then maybe Ralf, with Button and Alonso completing the top six. Pole goes to JB.
琢磨がイギリスF3初優勝した時の記事。F1初優勝もシルバーストーンを期待 http://www.crash.net/uk/en/news_view.asp?cid=11&nid=13528 Sato storms to first F3 win. SUNDAY 21ST MAY 2000 - PAGE 1 OF 1 Japanese sensation Takuma Sato finally clinched his maiden Formula Three win at Silverstone, running unchallenged from lights to flag.・・・
Let's make a dream: there are twenty Takuma Sato drivers on the grid, the light goes green... and we have an incredible battle. Everyone is glued to his chair, not wanting the race to end. Who will win? They keep on passing and re-passing each-other, the show is awesome... and then you wake up: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. ... No, it's true, "he" has won eight out of nine races so far. With how many passes? Hummmmh... Fortunately, we have one Takuma Sato!
.... It is true that BAR-Honda - the revelation of the season so far - and Renault have stepped into the breach, but their inconsistent attacks have amounted to no more than an occasional itch rather than the sort of mortal wound the more experienced Williams and McLaren teams have the financial capacity to inflict. ......McLaren and Williams may have dropped the ball but BAR have regularly picked it up with a surprisingly strong and consistent driver and car combination. Jenson Button and Takuma Sato have shared the role of worrying Ferrari, the difference being that BAR have suffered five mechanical failures to none for the reigning champions.
Sato has endured most of the frustration with four engine failures, one of which also eliminated two other cars at Monaco. Before his smoky demise, however, Sato had barged past Schumacher at the start, a familiar tactic from the Japanese driver that has been viewed as either refreshingly forceful or completely over the top. Either way, Sato has been a star of the first half of the season and has given the resurgent Button something to think about; a happy situation as BAR continues to defy all predictions with a car that is fast, but only lacks consistent pace in the races.
The retirements, however, have not helped BAR in a fight for second place in the championship,.... ---- Takuma Sato BAR 14 points Saviour of recent grands prix, showing willingness to go racing . Sometimes goes over top, but better that than sitting mesmerised by rear wing of car in front. Could beat Button to first win for BAR, but could just as easily spin off.
Takuma Sato: "After having such a good race at Indy and achieving my first podium, I am really looking forward to the next Grand Prix. Magny Cours is a unique circuit, where the track surface is incredibly smooth and the temperatures can range from being extremely hot to quite cool, so it is always produces an exciting race. This week we have been testing in Jerez where it has been very hot indeed, but we are happy with the tyre programme that we have chosen for France. Magny Cours is Michelin's home grand prix, so I am looking forward to us performing strongly next weekend."
Is Takuma Sato the best prospect to have emerged from Asia and a fast, aggressive driver destined to become Japan's first F1 race winner? Or is he merely attracting attention due to a series of amateurish passing moves in a car that is probably better than any other on the grid apart from the two red ones - a bloke confusing ambition with ability? The media and other drivers have divergent views on the attitude and ability of the BAR-Honda driver.
Most in the travelling F1 media circus appear to be unabashed fans of the young Japanese. This is understandable; after a season of stultifying boredom, many are desperate for a hero to take the fight to Ferrari. In the absence of any other pretender, Sato has put his name forward. But the drivers who have been too close to some of his track moves hold a different view. Felipe Massa called him mad after the pair collided in practice at Indy. Earlier at the Nurburgring, Rubens Barrichello described him as amateurish after a failed race move. Sato may well turn out to be a very good F1 racer but he is way too volatile and inconsistent at present to be seen as a contender. At Indy, Sato got his act together well enough to score his first podium. The trick will be to keep doing it against drivers who will be in no haste to give him any quarter. But he is exciting and should bear watching at Suzuka in front of his adoring home fans.
Although I'm only a Ferrari/MS fan for life, but when you see something special you should mention it. Watch out from Sato, damn that guy can drive. Go Schumiiiiiii. - tony, Toronto, Canada
Great Indy GP, full of incident and some great racing. .... I'd just like to mention that those who knock Sato, especially the media, better take note. He had a stupendous drive and apart from Mr.Panis putting a frightener on him, he drove impeccably. I'd watch out for him at the British, Italian and of course his home GP. Button beware, he may outqualify you by end of the year at this rate. Score is currently 5-4 in JBs favour!! - Chris, Hayes Middlesex
Fair dues to Schy, but since Maclaren went downhill over the past couple of years, there's been no car nearly capable of rivalling Ferrari. It would be great to see the likes of Montoya, Button and Sato driving cars that were the equal of Michaels, then perhaps we wouldn't have a second consecutive year of predictable results on our hands. - Ben, Stevenage
The mercs just aren't up to the challenge now! Oh, and well done to Takuma Sato on his first podium (A new record for the Japanese, well done for them too). Oh, and hope Ralphy-boy turns out to be okay, was a nasty crash....Hope alls well for him ;) - Jessie Dingle, Wolverhampton, UK
Great we nearly had a race this weekend with RB trying to take MS on the infield but MS slammed the door ソ why isn't RB this aggressive when MS took him on the straight after the safety car went in? MS did it at the start on Sato.... - Peter B, Hong Kong
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Fans at the United States Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 20 cheered wildly not only for Ferrari teammates Michael Schumacher......, but also for Takuma Sato, who celebrated on the podium for the first time in his Formula One career.
Sato brought his Lucky Strike BAR-Honda home third. The F1 fans at the Brickyard are among the most passionate and vocal of any track on the F1 tour. Sato marveled at their enthusiasm and support.
“It was great,” he said. “We have been supported from the all the fans in United States and America the whole weekend, even walking into restaurants, everybody cheering us, not only for me, but all the drivers. I felt huge energy in Indianapolis as a big dome. “When we finished, we could hear the cheering of the crowd, and on the podium, everybody was happy, and obviously I was happy. It was an unbelievable experience today for me.”
Sato is only the second Japanese driver to finish on the podium in a Grand Prix. Aguri Suzuki finished third in the 1990 Japanese Grand Prix driving a Lola-Lamborghini. ..... For Sato, the next step will be to win a Grand Prix, but he realizes that will be a big step.
“Obviously, everybody wants to win, and everybody is aiming to be best of the best,” he said. “You have to be sort of step by step. For me, I was waiting long time to have a result like this, and this is only the first step. "But this is an important day today, and now we have a car with the tires matching with consistency. And then going back to Europe, it will be challenging. We want to win, I don’t know when, but obviously we will try really hard the rest of the season.”
タイトル「Sato's engine didn't blow! I think it's because...」 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maybe Sato and Button swopped cars for the weekend -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First, I have to say that TS uses his engine more milder than JB logically , if you guys dont know. In detail, according to Mr.Nakamoto-HONDA's Engineering Director (Japanese source http://www.honda.co.jp/F1/spcontents2004/snrd8/ ), During shift down, TS's revs is less than JB's, he mentioned. In addition, During shift up, TS's revs draws a curve more straighter than JB's. JB's is vary widely. Above are reason why TS uses his engine more milder than JB, logically. Then, TS, however, imitated JB's style after Nurburgring. Result..as you know. I dont know Howe TS drives now. Anyway, I hope you got reason why HONDA havent solve the problem. Sato's engine didn't blow! I think it's because..., IMO, he just got lucky. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's very interesting to hear. I remember Button mentioned that Sato was going to try something different for the Canadian GP, but had no idea what he was referring to. Now, I know. Thanks. Personally, I think the engine has some sort of design flaw or at the very least inadequate cooling. Sato's engine was already smoking during the parade lap at Monaco. I hardly think his method of shifting played any role in that one.
Jenson Button's hopes of scoring BAR's maiden race victory are now under serious threat from Takuma Sato. And Sato is determined to deliver after becoming the first Japanese driver for 14 years since Aguri Suzuki....
Button has long been seen as the driver to provide them with the win, but Sato could yet beat him to it and in doing so create history by becoming the first from Japan to win in F1.....
Sato will have been the toast of Japan, with his third place understandably delighting engine giants Honda who also feel the 27-year-old can deliver the win. "He drove a great race," said Honda Racing vice-president Otmar Szafnauer. "He's proven that he's quick enough to do it. He's got the potential, and it could happen this year. Hopefully it will."
....Sato was described as a "complete madman" after a free practice collision with Felipe Massa on Friday, that coming just days after BAR boss Dave Richards had been forced to speak to his driver about his racing style......
It had been suggested Sato was the cause in trying to keep pace with Button, but Szafnauer added: "Hopefully this will dispel some of the speculation that Taku's driving style is what causes our engine failures because it is not and that showed [in the US]. "It's a historic moment in Japan and having Taku on the podium is brilliant. I think that will help him gain confidence as well."
Richards was also singing Sato's praises again and is hopeful he will now be able to build on what he achieved in Indianapolis. "It's been a long time in coming, but well deserved. He drove an impeccable race," said Richards. "I've always said that drivers are made up of three elements - talent, the work ethic and the intellect to apply them and he has all three. I see the speed, the talent and the intelligence there, and on top of that he's a great guy. "He's learning fast. You have to remember he's been racing for only six years, but he will improve faster than anyone else in this pit lane."
One of the drivers who should have been punished on Sunday was Olivier Panis who changed direction quite violently as Sato tried to pass him and it was only the BAR driver's fantastic reactions that got him through the situation.
If you can break through and claim a first podium finish it is a great relief to a driver.
Sato is through the pain barrier now, over his problems in Canada, and will be looking forward with great confidence.
I hope he does well. I love to see a driver with a bit of daring do about him. Sato has it - he is a great prospect.

It took 27 Grands Prix but it was worth the wait. When Takuma Sato scored his maiden podium in Indianapolis there was a feeling of relief rather than surprise over his achievement....
/////
Taku's race tactics have been heavily criticized, with some suggesting his driving style was the root of his engine problems. "Kamikaze", "brash" and "audacious" were some of the adjectives bandied around the paddock before Indianapolis....
Rubens Barrichello was also vocal about Sato's antics at the Nьrburgring. Sato made a late-race lunge for second position, forcing the Ferrari wide. It was risky, but Taku felt in control and wanted to take advantage of his new Michelin rubber.
"I knew I had only one chance because the tyre wouldn't last this amount of grip after the first lap," he says. "I could see him [Rubens] sliding into the last corner and my traction was really good. I knew I could do it -- I just don't think he knew I was there."
That's the great thing about Sato: he's never afraid to explore his options. It doesn't always work in his favor, but his competitors are left with no illusion that the smallest of gaps will be safe.
When he first came on the scene I harbored my own reservations about his ability. He appeared erratic and overzealous, but his sabbatical has gifted him with the finesse required to truly make it to the top.
The inclination to dive behind the sofa has largely subsided and I find him a thrill to watch. He is the epitome of F1 with his late braking and daring -- but not dangerous -- moves. It's what the fans want to see and that's why he received such rapturous applause in Indy. Ferrari was just ordinary compared to the Japanese wonder.
So even in this gizmo-laden era, he really merits his place on the grid. His podium will undoubtedly be the first of many, and without generating too much hype, his maiden win could be on the horizon.
Williams' Juan Pablo Montoya has strongly tipped Sato to win first for BAR-Honda. "Jenson is doing a very good job but Takuma has come along really well in the last few races," he says. "It wouldn't surprise me if he wins a race before Jenson. I think he's a guy who's starting to find his limits."
///////
Montoya is proof that once on a roll the results will keep on coming. David Richards is keen to reiterate that. "He is an extraordinary talent," he says. "When it comes right, and I've seen it so many times before with people of that sort of level of speed and performance, then it just won't stop."
Sato remains realistic about the second half of the season. He was thrilled with third in Indy, but knows that this is only the first step. "Obviously I want to win, but you have to do it step by step," he says. "I was waiting for a long time to have a result like this, but it's an incredible feeling."
The F1 circus returns to Europe this weekend and Taku will be aiming to build on his recent success. If Williams' dominance last year is anything to go by, Magny Cours should favor the Michelin teams. Great news for Taku, but the rest better watch their mirrors. BAR #10 is coming and it's coming fast. /
The inclination to dive behind the sofa has largely subsided(←この行全然わからん。)
Q: .....Do teams ever exercise preferential treatment for one of their drivers over the other in terms of getting their cars race-ready? If so, do you think this might be the case at BAR given Jenson Button's amazing performance this season compared with Takuma Sato's all too frequent engine failures? - James Twhigg
Bob : .... the strict answer is no. There is no preferential treatment given to any driver in Formula 1 in terms of car preparation. Each chassis used in Formula 1 will have its own mechanics and there is no way that you will tell those guys to do a less than perfect job on their particular chassis. Their own skills and reputation will be at stake if you tried to enforce that and I do not know a single mechanic in the pit lane willing to do less than a perfect job.
Sato's problems could be caused by many things. A different driving style has been mentioned or even new and experimental parts being tried out by Honda in their quest for a better engine each race, perhaps even that word that I believe has no place in Formula 1 - luck!
Whatever it is he seems to have overcome it in his most recent Grand Prix in the USA!/
Q: If J.V. was still driving for BAR do you think he'd be up with Michael S? Having said that, has the saving made by not employing J.V. helped the R&D efforts at BAR? I'm a Honda fan, how have they ended up with BAR rather then one of the big players like Williams etc? - Neelash Prasad
Bob: .... Gut instinct alone tells me that if Villeneuve were still driving then they would not be in the same position as they are in now.....
..... If Villeneuve had still been there would Jenson or would Sato not have come in to the front line? By Sato's very presence in the team and the results that he has got it has fired Honda into rapid development and maybe that would not have happened if it had been status quo. Who is to know but let us just be thankful that BAR are doing so well otherwise who else would be biting Ferrari's coattail?
Let us hope that they will look back in years to come and decide it was, after all the right decision./
"dive behind the sofa"で検索したら下みたいな表現が見つかったんで "何かに熱中する"みたいな意味があるっぽい。
well I think this review has hit the nail, well and truly, on the head. The games ability to make a grown man dive behind the sofa is one I've never seen before.

Takuma Sato Class: BAR Best Qualifying Position: 2; Best Result: 3; Points: 14 He's as fast as he is entertaining (undisputedly on both counts) but having pace without the racing nous to make it to the finishing line is a salutary lesson that was first told under the headline of the 'tortoise and the hare'. It's akin to buying the best forwards in the world but forgetting to play any defenders. And ask Real Madrid how that policy worked last year.
There have been so many mistakes that it's only when you have to recount them (say, if you're writing a half-term report) that it becomes apparent how slowly Sato is learning: a tangle with Trulli at the first corner in Australia, a crash in qualifying at Malaysia, an off-road, podium-losing excursion in the Bahrain GP, a leery slide in qualifying at Monaco when a front-row grid slot was there for the taking, another crash on Saturday afternoon at Montreal, followed by another spin 24 hours later, and finally the ill-conceived and reckless lunge on Barrichello at the Nurburgring.
It is a litany of woes compounded by Sato's inability to coax his engine to the chequered flag. Upon Honda's fourth failure of the season, all of which had been reserved for Sato's BAR, the team admitted that his driving style, euphemistically described as 'erratic', was a contributing factor.
The result is that Sato has garnered a mere 14 points. It's a third of what team-mate Button has secured, less than half of a tally that constitutes par in the second-best car on the grid, and the only reason why Renault remain second in the Constructors' Championship. Grade: C
Despite Jenson Button's first retirement of the season at Indianapolis...... Takuma Sato ensured that BAR-Honda continued to pose the biggest challenge to Ferrari. The Japanese driver qualified a strong third behind the two red cars, and then replicated the result in the race to claim his maiden podium finish in F1. An unseemly tangle with Felipe Massa soured an otherwise good weekend, however.
Button was naturally disappointed to have had to retire, ......and his race was also compromised when the team failed to take advantage of the safety car to make a fuel and tyre stop. The Briton later reported that his car had 'felt fantastic' while running on Sunday, and will be hoping that national pride and work in the wind tunnel help Michelin and the team's latest aero package to get him back to the front this weekend.
Although the Magny-Cours track has changed slightly since he last raced there in 2002, Taku believes it represents one of the better and more challenging venues on the F1 calendar. "Magny Cours is an interesting circuit because it always produces an exciting race!" he says. "You start with the cars' set-up low as the track is very smooth, but you need to have a good amount of grip for the tight corners and good traction for the hairpins.
Phil Young and Achim Hofstadter are performance specialists. ......their field of expertise concentrates on human rather than automotive performance.
Young and Hofstadter are the respective physiotherapists for Lucky Strike BAR Honda's Jenson Button and Takuma Sato. ......A physio is likely to spend more time with his charge than any other member of the driver's entourage and such is their importance, all drivers now employ the services of one of these specialists.
Q: Phil, Achim, to both of you: what's your history and how did you get here?
Achim Hofstadter: I worked in the World Rally Championship for the last five years working with the likes of Richard Burns and Petter Solberg, but Taku is the first F1 driver I have worked with. I did a test with him last year and that's how we got to know each other and towards the end of the season he asked me if I would be interested in working with him.
Phil Young: Before Formula One I was involved with the British cycling team for three years, working with mainly the men and women's road endurance teams. I did World and European Championships....
/// Q: What sort of training do they like and dislike?
AH: Well Taku doesn't like running! But we do different types of cardiovascular training and he already has a good base because he's been a cyclist in the past. Then, more specifically, we focus on the key areas like the neck, the lower back and core, stability. Cycling is his favourite, but he's into anything that is interesting and involves co-ordination, such as rock climbing. He doesn't like to do repetitive training such as the multi gym.
PY: Jenson hates going to the gym even though he knows he has to.....Anything that is outdoors he enjoys. We do a lot of canoeing, kayaking, hiking in hills, cycling, running, swimming. In the summer we do a sea swim rather than swim in a pool. We try and do as much outside as possible to make it as fun as possible. .....You have to make any form of training as enjoyable as you can.
