Language, both spoken and written, is often seen to be a good indicator of a person's intelligence. We, as a society, make judgements based on what a person says and how well they write. Chomsky believed that by analysing the sentences produced and understood by an individual, we are able to acquire an insight into the knowledge they possess.

Aunt Petunia hissed at Harry. A feeling of great gloom in his stomach, Harry pulled the door open. On the threshold stood Aunt Marge. Ecclesiastes 1 (New Living Translation)
These are the words of the Teacher, King David’s son, [ who ruled in Jerusalem ]. Everything Is Meaningless “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!” What do people get for all their hard work under the sun? Generations come and generations go, but the earth never changes. The sun rises and the sun sets, then hurries around [ to rise again ]. The wind blows south, and then turns north. Around and around it goes, [ blowing in circles ]. Rivers run into the sea, but the sea is never full. Then the water returns again to the rivers and flows out again to the sea. Everything is *wearisome beyond description. No matter [ how much we see ], we are never satisfied. No matter [ how much we hear ], we are not content.
History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new. We don’t remember [ what happened in the past ], and in future generations, no one will remember [ what we are doing now ].

The Teacher Speaks: The Futility of Wisdom I, the Teacher, was king of Israel, and I lived in Jerusalem. I devoted myself [ to search for [ understanding ] ] and [ to explore by wisdom everything [ being done under heaven ]. I soon discovered [ that God has dealt a tragic existence to the human race ]. I observed everything [ going on under the sun ], and really, it is all meaningless— [ like chasing the wind ]. [ What is wrong ] cannot be made right. [ What is missing ] cannot be recovered. I said to myself, “Look, I am wiser than any of the kings [ who ruled in Jerusalem before me ]. I have greater wisdom and knowledge than any of them.” So I set out [ to learn everything from wisdom to madness and folly ]. But I learned firsthand [ that [ pursuing all this ] is like [ chasing the wind ] ]. [ The greater my wisdom ], the greater my grief. [ To increase knowledge ] only increases sorrow.

"An' now 'e's out," said Stan, examining the newspaper picture of Black's gaunt face again. "Never been a breakout from Azkaban before, 'as there, Ern? Beats me 'ow 'e did it. Frightenin', eh? Mind, I don't fancy 'is chances against them Azkaban guards, eh, Ern?" Ernie suddenly shivered. "Talk about summat else, Stan, there's a good lad. Them Azkaban guards give me the collywobbles." Stan put the paper away reluctantly, and Harry leaned against the window of the Knight Bus, feeling worse than ever. He couldn't help imagining what Stan might be telling his passengers in a few nights' time.
there's a good lad. それともthere's a good lad.
He is a student.(AはBである型) I study English.(AはBする型) 【3型:SVのあとに2型の関係を持つ要素を取る】 I will make you happy. (You will be happy.)(be動詞だけでyouとhappyがつながる;AはBである型) He gave me a dictionary. (I was given a dictionary.) (be動詞だけではmeとa dictionaryがつながらなず、Vの受動態でつながる;AはBする型)
I am aware of his ability. The accident made me aware of the danger.
She is in her room. He lives in Tokyo.

Of some fierce Maenad, even from the dim verge Of the horizon to the zenith's height, The locks of the approaching storm. Thou dirge
Of the dying year, to which this closing night Will be the dome of a vast sepulchre, Vaulted with all thy congregated might
Of vapors, from whose solid atmosphere Black rain, and fire, and hail will burst: oh, hear!

Yet to affirm that linguistic meaning is primarily expressive, gestural, and poetic, and that conventional and denotative meanings are inherently secondary and derivative, is to renounce the claim that language is an exclusively human property. If language is always, in its depths, physically and sensorially resonant, then it can never be definitively separated from the evident expressiveness of birdsong or the evocative howl of a wolf late at night.

Central to traditional Christian thought was the claim that one's status carried no moral meaning. Jesus had been the highest man, but he had been a carpenter. Pilate had been an important imperial official, but a sinner. It therefore made no sense to believe that one's place in the social hierarchy reflected actual qualities. One could be intelligent, kind, capable, quick and creative and be sweeping floors. And one might be corrupt, mean, sadistic and foolish and be governing the nation.
