They are so cool that people are prepared to camp out in front of Wal-Mart for a week so they can be the first to buy them. The Apple iPhone was one such product. Apparently, most people who bought one were very satified. However, more and more consumers are returning brand new electrical appliances to the shop, and not because of defects but simply because they can't figure out how to use them. According to researchers, cusomer dissatisfaction now costs manufacurers of electrical gadgets in the US $14 billion a year-that's 7% of their total revenue. Many consumers are angry and frustrated Not only are they unable to use their new toys, in many cases they are unable to find anyone who can tell them how to: phone lines are busy, emails are ignored, and when they do make contact, they are told by the hardware manufacturer that it's a software problem, the software supplier tells them it's a hardware problem, and nobody is willing to sit down and show them how the thing works. So they take it back to the store and demand a refund. When using an electronic gadget for the first time, the average American consumer has a tolerance limit currently estimated at around 20 minutes. If they haven't figured it out by then, they will return the product to the store. Why does this problem occur? Manuals tend to be complex and full of jargon, suggesting that they are written by specialists with no input from ordinary consumers. 宜しくお願いします。
Germination can be prolonged if just sown in a pot as there is aways a chance of the medium drying out thus the reason why some people find germinating this species difficult. A super easy way: place seed in a 5x10 cm resealable baggie full of moist coarse sand. Mix. Place in fridge at 4 C. Seed collected Sept 2006 were up in December 2007 without warm stratification period. Very rewarding technique whether you are an expert or novice. Prick out seedlings and transplant in humus rich medium enriched with greensand. Deeper the pot the better. DO NOT LET SEEDLINGS FREEZE!!! Let grow 2 years before seating in final position. I have pics to prove.
Ex-WBA champ ‘Celes’ to hang up gloves Former World Boxing Association super-flyweight champion Shoji “Celes” Kobayashi has decided to hang up his gloves, the head of Tokyo’s Kokusai boxing gym revealed Wednesday. Yoshinori Takahashi said Kobayashi is retiring because he has lost the desire to fight, adding an official announcement and press conference is scheduled for Monday. Kobayashi lost the WBA crown by TKO in the eighth round of a fight with Venezuela’s Alexander Munoz on March 9, bringing his career record to 24 wins, including 14 by knockout, against five losses and three draws.
Two dozen more moons of Jupiter found Astronomers have detected 23 more satellites orbiting Jupiter, bringing the number of moons encircling the solar system’s greatest planet to an astonishing 60. The 23 newcomers are tiny objects between just 2 and 8 km across, making them the smallest moons ever detected from the Earth. Its closest rivals are Saturn, with 31 detected so far, followed by Uranus, with 21, and Neptune, 11. The discovery is technically significant, because it shows how high-powered telescopes combined with modern computers can capture tiny objects in irregular orbits.
Engineers from Britain's Cambridge University, who are working with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States, believe their concept could cost as much to develop and buy as today's passenger jets but should be much cheaper to run thanks to its unusual shape.
Exploring haikyo also has an eerie, ghost-like aspect to it. Even though haikyo are places that have been abandoned, because they have been given the human touch one can't help but imagine what used to happen in these spaces. Looking at a moss-covered roller coaster you can almost hear the shrill cries of the people who once rode it. Perhaps this demonstrates the lasting impact humans have on their natural environment.
和訳お願い致します。 Moreover, products have too many features. Consumer may be attracted by multi-functional gadgets-especially if it means they only need to carry one gadget instead of three - but the appeal wears off when they are unable to use even those functions that they need. It seems that both product designers and consumers have a lot to learn. One important conclusion is that different markets have tobe served with different models of the same product. The adult market demands practical function and nothing more. The teenage market requires fun features. The senior citizens market needs simple, basic, easy-to-use gadgets. Take, for example, the cell phone, a relatively new product that has enjoyed phenomenal success worldwide. Elderly people want them to make phone calls with. Younger adults also want to use them to access the Internet. Teenagers also want to play games, take photos and view on them, and seem tohave a greater capacity for figuring out how to do all this. 続きあるのですがここまで宜しくお願い致します。

It is also clear, however, that many features are being added just to appeal to consumers accustomed to thinking that more is always better. For example, Apple introduced a device in 2008 that would seem to be the perfect gift for anyone who likes Hollywood movies. When attached to a normal television set, it enable the viewr to watch about 1,000 Hollywood movies any time at a charge of about $5per movie. Assuming that all these movies are worth watching(a rather generous assumption), it would take about 3years to see them all at the rate of one a day,and would cost $5,000. But the most remarkable feature is that you can actually watch the same movie over and over for up to 24hours without any extra charge.
One wonders how many people are prepared to endure serious eye strain, lack of sleep and the risk of severe personality disorders in order to make full use of this bizarre feature. 少し話が飛んで、途中からになりますが宜しくお願い致します。 Secondly, many other substance used in electronic gadgets are toxic, and pollute the environment when the product is discarded. In an ideal world, all computers, cell phones and other electrical appliances would be completely recycled on reaching the end of their useful life, but that doesn't happen in the real world. Some are incinerated, causing air pollution, others are shipped to China, where they are dismantled by peasants equipped with neither masks nor gloves despite the toxicity of the substance they are handling. The constant pressure on research and development teams to create newer and better products often leads to innovations of great benefit to society. Now that so many people have cell phones, for example, ambulances can be called within moments of a traffic accident taking place.

Hingis may be forced to retire from tennis Martina Hingis may have to give up tennis because of joint injuries, her doctor said Wednesday. Dr. Heinz Buehlmann told a Swiss radio network Hingis, 21, is suffering severe pain in her feet, left knee and left hip, which had forced her to stop training although she was able to ride a bicycle. The former top-ranked player was due to have tests Wednesday and Thursday, Buehlmann told Radio 24. She may have inflammation which has led to joint damage and may have to consider ending her career, he said. Results are expected by the end of the week, Buehlmann said. Hingis’ mother, Melanie Molitor, said the damage may have been caused by the shoes Hingis wore for tennis from the age of 11 until three years ago. ? お願いします。

Thelma & Louise is a road movie, yes, but it's really a journey of enlightenment, a journey of self-discovery. And it begins with the incident, the hub of the wheel of action.
Only the Fourth Symphony's D minor central movement - a spaciously developed Landler - achieves, through contrapuntal development of its main theme, a measure of the unbroken continuity normally associated with dance forms in a symphony. This is a very Mahlerian movement in a large binary form, its second subject clearly anticipating the sombre descending main theme of the Fifth Symphony's first movement. The two outer movements that frame this intermezzo, on the other hand, are disruptive in the extreme. The vast episodic sonata structure of the first movement, with its splintered central development of material in several episodes, makes a feature of the most disconcerting changes of direction before reaching its ultimate climax in the retransition, with its piled-up dissonances. The twelve-note, multi-intervallic chord that immediately precedes the recapitulation suggests an allusion to the "crisis" chord of the first movement of Mahler's Tenth Symphony. Now, the compressed and thematically reversed recapitulation effects a radical transformation of its main themes so that the reflective, wandering second subject assumes the relentless martial identity of the first in an overall structural-ecpressive scheme that served the composer well in his subsequent Moderato first movements.

There are certain things in life that are so obvious as to be beyond questtion.
Among them the belief that everybody loves winnings and, conversely, that everybody hates losing.
At the enjoyable end of the victory spectrum is the sheer excitement of crossing the ribbon first, coming top of the class or spraying champagne from the podium, at the other end lies that depressing ache of being a straggler,an also-ran and, yes,a loser.
"This runs counter to the idea that everybody likes coming out at the top of heap," says Oliver Schultheiss, professor of psychology at the University of Michigan, who oversaw the study. "That's a really surprising finding for us."
Professor Schultheiss concludes that people can be split into wolves, who are utterly driven to win and devastated at losing out,and sheep, whose triumphs over others bring distress rather than heart-pumping joy.
Lance Armstrong, the record-breaking tour de France winner, is the embodiment of a wolf,Estelle Morris, who quit her question as Education Secretary because she did not feel up to the job, could be suspected of ovine tendencies.
How to separate the wolves from the sheep? Professor Schulyheiss and his colleagues first used a test to assess the motivations of 108 college students.
They were asked to look at various photographs---such as a picture of two cyclists racing next to each other---and write a description of what they saw.
The resulting script was use to deduce the participant's "implicit power motivation," which is defined as a hidden desire to dominate others.
Another aerospace engineer on the project said that mounting the engines on top of the plane would bounce much of the noise upwards off its surface. The triangular cabin merging into the wings means the configuration inside will be unlike the cigar-shaped fuselages we see today. The engineer said, “It's like a flying wing and the passengers are accommodated in this wing.”

Missing white woman syndrome (MWWS) is a vernacular term for the disproportionately greater degree of coverage in television, radio, and print news reporting of a missing person case involving a young, attractive, middle or upper middle class white woman, compared with cases concerning a missing male, or missing persons of other races or classes.
The essential features of a missing person said to give rise to Missing White Woman Syndrome are sex, race or ethnicity, social class, (relative) beauty, and age.
These features are said to provoke discrimination in the reporting as news of the disappearance of a young white woman, and so to increase public interest in her disappearance.
Criticism of this apparent phenomenon is sometimes accompanied by suggestions, implicit or overt, as to correcting the perceived problem, but the suggestions vary greatly.
About 0.5g of o-nitrobenzaldehyde is dissolved in 5 mL of acetone in a 100 mL Erlenmeyer flask. Five mL of water is added to the solution and stirred. Then 2.5 mL of a 1M sodium hydroxide solution is carefully added dropwise to the suspension. As the base is added, the blue color of indiog can be seen almost at once, and the solution may boil.
After the exothermic reaction has subsided, the reaction mixture is allowed to stand for 5 min. The precipitated indigo is collected by suction filtration. The filtrate is washed successively eith 10 mL of water and 10 mL of ethanol. After drying, weigh the product and calculate the yield.
The indigo (0.05g) produced above is placed in a 100mL beaker with 5mL of 1M sodium hydroxide and 15mL of water. The suspention is heated using a hot-water bath(80-90℃), and 0.5g of sodium dithionite is added. Additional dithionite solution is then added dropwise until the indigo dissolves and a clear solution is formed.
A piece of cotton cloth is immersed into the solution. It is removed when completely saturared and allowed to air dry. After the cloth is dry, it is rinsed with cold water. When the washings are completely clear, the dyed cloth should be allowed to dry.

The Earth’s climate does change. The last ice age ended 10,000 years ago, and we live in a warm period. That change had nothing to do with human activities. In the 1980s, however, some scientists warned that the Earth might be getting warmer as a result of human activities. Since the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, factories, power plants, cars, and farms have been polluting the air with greenhouse gases ―― carbon dioxide, methane, and so on. Scientists knew that, but the question. An IPCC report in 2001 says the trend toward a warmer world has begun. The IPCC looked into the data collected during the past 20 years on everything from the air and the sea to wildlife. The say this slow but steady warming has had a great influence on the Earth.
Glaciers, including the famous snow of Kilimanjaro, are disappearing from the world’s highest mountains. Coral reefs are dying off as the seas get too warm for them. Water shortages are common in parts of Asia and Africa. El Niño frequently brings about terrible weather in the eastern Pacific. The Arctic permafrost is starting to melt. Migration patterns for animals like white bears and whales are being disrupted. Now almost nobody questions the fact that humans are at least partly responsible. The problem is how we can stop or slow down global warming. To our regret, however, human activities after the Industrial Revolution have brought about a 30-percent in carbon dioxide levels in the air compares to pre-industrial levels. Each year the rate of increase gets faster. It is certain that worldwide temperatures will keep going up.
According to the IPCC, worldwide temperatures will have increased between 1.4℃ and 5.8℃ by 2100. That may not seem like much, but consider that the last ice age ended as a result of a 5℃ increase. If the rise in temperature is larger, the result would be terrible. With seas rising as much as 1 meter, vast areas with large populations, such as the Nile Delta and Bangladesh, would disappear under the sea. Agriculture would be badly damaged. Hundreds of millions of people would have to move to other places. Public health could suffer. Rising seas would pollute fresh water supplies with salt. Hot weather could lead to a rise in deaths from the heat. Warmer temperatures would allow mosquitoes, which carry malaria, to spread to the temperate zones. Worst of all, this rise in temperature is happening at the fastest rate that the Earth has ever seen in the past 100 million years. Humans will have a hard time, but wildlife will no longer be able to survive.
In the temperate zones, warmer temperatures and increased CO2 would make some crops flourish ―― at first. But beyond a rise of 1.5℃, there would start to decrease rapidly. Even if temperatures rose only moderately, scientists say, the climate might reach a “tipping point”. It is a point at which even a little more increase would throw the climate into a dramatic change. If the ice caps began to melt, a huge amount of fresh water would flow into the sea. It would remain on the surface and would not sink. As a result, ocean currents like the Gulf Stream could slow down ir even stop. So would their warming effects on northern regions. More snow would fall, and it would reflect more sunlight back into space. The Earth would become cold. Before long, a large part of the Earth would be covered with ice again. Global warming could, paradoxically, throw the Earth into another ice age.
One scientist points out that the CO2 entering the air today will be there for a century. He says, “Even if we stabilize the amount of CO2 emissions now, the gas in the air will have reaches a fatal amount by the end of the 21st century. Temperatures will rise over the century.” That could be truly terrible. The ongoing disruption of ecosystems and weather patterns is bad enough. But if temperatures reaches the IPCC’s worst-case levels and stayed there for as long as 1,000 years, the vast ice fields in Greenland and Antarctica could melt down, raising sea level more than 9 meters. Every city on the U.S. Eastern coast would be history. Now is the time to think about global warming seriously. It is too big a problem for one nation to solve. The most important thing is that all nations should work hand in hand. Without international cooperation, it will be impossible to reduce greenhouse gases in the air.

Social constructionist approaches to the study of self and identity, sometimes called language-based approaches, have gained momentum over the last 20 years or so as a major challenge to some of the implicit assumptions embedded within more traditional approaches found within social and personality psychology such as behaviourist, humanistic and psychodynamic approaches. Perhaps the most commonly-known social constructionist approaches within psychology include discource analysis, feminist psychological approaches, post-structuralist/postmodernist approaches and rhetorically based approaches.
The aforementioned social constructionist approaches, although obviously distinct from each other, are commonly united in their critique of the realist assumptions of traditional psychological studies of self and identity in which it is allegedly assumed that the self exists as an entity that can be discovered and described in much the same way as can any object in the natural or physical world. Such realist assumptions are considered problematic because the alternative conceptualization of the self promoted by social constructionism is one which sees it as inextricably dependent on the language and linguistic practices that we use in our everyday lives to make sense of ourselves and other people. In making use of such language, we are constantly and perpetually interpreting and changing the meaning of ourselves and other people's actions in accordance with our practical and moral tasks.
Hence, the realist assumption that we can describe some sort of pre-existent self,in isolation from such everyday interactional and interpretative contingencies, is regarded as radically misguided. The social constructionist commitment to deconstructing the self the self stems from an appreciation of the inextricable connection between linguistic structures and concepts of self. This leads to an understanding of the self as a phenomenon characterized by interpretation, variability, relativity, flux and difference. From this perspective, it is impossible to make universal claims about the nature of human selves and personal experiences because such selves and experiences differ in relation to historical, cultural and practical contexts.
It is from this theoretical recognition of a lack of unity and constancy that postmodernists declare
As the weather turns chilly and the days shorten, even in a crowded metropolis, nature's cycles are evident. There are shortening days, the turning of deciduous leaves, and the sounds of trains and traffic that seem to suddenly ride the chilled air like witch songs.
エッセイの一部です。 Many years ago I called at a friend's house during a week of riots and found that his brothers and their friends had all been out in the streets throwing stones at policemen and soldiers. His mother gave us tea, and, as she did so, she lamented the old days when the men of the district,as well as the boys, fought with spirit in such affrays as this. ‘ They're a heartless lot, nowadays―ah, a heartless lot,' she sighed, and by‘heartiess ’ she did not mean that they were cruel but that they had no heart for fighting. You might think from this that she was a woman of fierce nature. どなたかお時間のある方和訳よろしくおねがいします。
日本の出生率低下に関する文章です。 (1/3) Japan's declining fertility rate is causing alarms to go off in the country's governing bodies. The real reasons for couples not having children have not been fully researched in Japan. Surveys have shown that parents are reluctant to have more than one child because of the heavy financial burden of child-rearing and limited living space. However, even affluent families with relatively big houses are refraining from having any or more children. Apparently, there are underlying reasons other than those the surveys indicate.
Two other favorite explanations for not having children are the rise in the level of women's education and the later age of marriage. These factors also correlate to lower birth rates. I believe the correlation may not be totally causal. Unless the precise reasons behind the problem are found, the remedies recommended may not be appropriate. Better and more in-depth research is needed.
(2/3) I have many friends who are married but childless, as well as friends who have remained single. Since we are now in our 40s, I find that my concerns differ greatly from theirs. They are more concerned about the present and what is good for their own well-being. I, as a parent, am very much concerned about the future, because my children will still be alive long after I have left this world. My childless friends want government budgets to go into health care and pensions for the elderly. I am hoping for a bigger budget for education and a cleaner environment. My friends and I are slowly moving into different camps.
This split of preferences will cause more conflicts as the years go by. For example, it will be my children's generation who will have to support today's childless generation as they get older. This situation is definitely unfair for those of us who are trying so hard to raise children. When I complain, my friends always say, "That is why we do not want children. There is no benefit to having children, only trouble and responsibilities. We no longer need children to support us in our old age. The government will do this, and your children will work to support the system. Ha, ha, ha... ." I know they tell me frankly what they are thinking because we are friends, but I cannot help feeling cheated. At the same time, I want to let them know how wonderful children are. However, I find it very difficult to describe to childless adults how fulfilling it can be to be a parent. Comments such as these never appear in official surveys. But I think a certain percentage of couples do have this "me-only" mentality. These ideas must be takeninto account when we make public policies for boosting the birth rate.
(3/3) For example, if a substantial percentage of mothers hesitate to have children because of a lack of child-rearing support from the father, we need to find ways through education to make male child-rearing participation possible. If a substantial percentage of respondents say that they simply want to spend all their time and money on themselves, then we must come up with some kind of system that forces such people to help support child-rearing families. If a large percentage of people say that they feel pessimistic because of environmental problems, we must increase our efforts to form a more environmentally conscious society. Remedies can only be found when we know the real symptoms.
Scholars have predicted that if the decline in the birth rate contin-ues at the same pace as now, by the year 3500 there will be only one Japanese left in the world. We do not want that to happen, do we? Of course not. So now is really the time to act and start having babies.

For most urban dwellers, however, the dominant sound is that of traffic, the relentless growling of engines, with occasional blasts from car horns and ambulance sirens. For those living near busy airports and highways, the noise can be almost unbearable. Exposure to loud noise on a regular basis can be very harmful for health, resulting in headaches, stress, insomnia and hearing disabilities. It has also been found to affect children's reading ability, speech perception and memory, and thus impede intellectual development. While noise levels can be measured objectively on the decibel scale, individual responses to noise depend on numerous other factors, such as place, time, contrast and individual sensitivity .

Central Tokyo experienced its heaviest March snowfall in a decade Friday morning, the Meteorological Agency said. Kanto region prefectures saw accumulations of up to 14 cm that disrupted transportation and led to five serious injuries. Some 2 cm fo snow fell in Tokyo’s Ohtemachi business district, the heaviest March snowfall in central Tokyo since 1995, the agency said. By noon, Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, had been blanketed in 14 cm ; Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, in 7 cm ; and both Kumagaya in Saitama Prefecture and Chiba in 4 cm. Yokohama received 2cm. The snowfall snarled transportation, with the Tohkaido Shinkansen line applying speed restrictions between Shinagawa Station in Tokyo and Odawara Station in Kanagawa Prefecture that caused delays of up to 10 minutes. At Haneda airport, 55 flights to and from Tokyo had been canceled as of 1p.m., affecting about 9,000 people. Departures of 88 international flights out of Narita airport were also delayed by up to one hour. At least 23 people were injured in Tokyo, most of them from slipping, the Tokyo Fire Department said. In Tokyo’s Suginami Ward, a 47-year-old man fractured his left led during a fall on his way to work. In Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture, a 56-year-old man broke his leg as he was removing snow from a net at a driving range. Several colleges and universities in Tokyo also delayed their entrance examinations by up to an hour due to the snowfall. More than 60 public high schools in Tokyo started classes later than usual. While the worst of the snow had passed by mid-afternoon in Tokyo, weather officials urged people to be careful because roads and sidewalks would ice over during the night.

I later learned from a neighbor that all domestic cats and dogs had to be, by law, registered. Pets had to wear tags with registration numbers whenever they went out. Microchipping was strongly promoted, too. if a lost dog or cat is picked up, it can be returned to its owner from the ID information on the tag or in the microchip. Furthermore, abandoning a dog or cat will result in a very heavy fine. You can be fined up to $1,000. I also found out that cats must be home by a certain time! The law says that the owner can be find $100 for letting a cat out after dark. By staying in, cats have less chance of being hit by a car, annoying neighbors by making noise, or hunting birds and other wildlife. Interested, I tried an online search on rules of pet ownership in other English-speaking countries. I soon found that laws of registration for dogs and cats are quite common in the USA, the UK, Canada, and New zealand. Many countries strongly recommend microchipping. The results of my search made me think about dogs and cats in Japan. Japan probably needs a stricter pet registration system and a law enforcing heavy fines for abandoning animals. Then, maybe Japanese pet owners would become more responsible.

My husband Toshi was going to Melbourne, Australia to teach Japanese at high schools for a year. Since Kyle was like our son and we couldn't leave him, he had to come with us. However, flying to the smallest continent in the world was no picnic for the cat. First, he needed to have a microchip put under the skin at the back of his neck. The ship, about the size of a grain of rice, would carry his ID information. The vet told us that putting in the ship was painless, and we had no choice but to believe him. Second, to our horror, Kyle could not fly with us in the passenger cabin. He had to be loaded as cargo! The cargo area would be air-conditioned, so at least he would not freeze to death. We could only hope that his cage would not be placed next to a barking dog's. But the worst thing was that when Kyle arrived in Australia, he needed to be kept in a quarantine station for 30 long days to check if he had any disease. As an agricultural country, Australia is particularly strict about importing animals. For example, cats imported from some countries need to stay in quarantine for as long as 120 days. To our relief, Kyle did quite well. Although he lost some weight-probably due to stress-he was okay. We tried to make ourselves believe that losing a kilo or two was actually good for him. He had weighed over six! The three of us started living happily together again in a house we rented in a Melbourne suburb. Toshi went out to teach on weekdays while I worked at home, writing essays for magazines, and Kyle did whatever he liked to do inside the house.

The other day something happened to me that reminded me of my first visit to Japan. Th other day i was at work and when i was leaving i found someone that i didn't know at the door. They were a little behind me so i opened the door, said hello and waited till they passed the door to get out myself. This reminded me of japan 'cause when i went to Sapporo i slept a couple days in a friend appartment. there were many others rooms, so one day i found someone in the elevator. I said hello to that person and she starde at me like thinkig " do we know each other? Why are you saying hello to me?"...is that normal in japan? I mean, if find someone in the elevator, or in your appartments building, you don't say anything at all?
In fact, both genders apologise much more often to women than to men, regardless of relative power or status. It is clear that women place a very high priority on apologies to female equals: these are by far the most frequent apologies in the whole corpus.

Saw mills dot the inner coast of Miho, their piles of logs and lumber being conspicuous items of landscape ,while a small establishment for the building of small wooden fishing boats, parasitic to both the lumber and fishing industries , has chosen a similar location. The sale price of land on Miho is not determined any longer by its agricultural productivity but rather it is related to its potential value for industrial sites as Shimizu expands. The beginnings of this hoped-for expansion are already to be seen in the saw mils and the boat factory. At the present time ,however,Miho is almost exclusively a great vegetable garden, growing crops practically all year round but nevertheless specializing in early season products. The side of the spit bordering on the open waters of Suruga Bay has a wide sand beach terminating on the landward side in a sand ridge capped with conifers, the latter feature acting both as a wind break and sand break.

Lindsay Ann Hawker suspect attracts support from Japanese women Tatsuya Ichihashi, the man suspected of killing the British teacher Lindsay Ann Hawker, has become a bizarre object of admiration among a number of online communities of Japanese women. Posting on social networking sites such as Mixi and 2Channel, some have even taken to referring to Ichihashi as The Fugitive Prince or Lord Ichi. Others have claimed that he could not possibly have committed the crime because he looks so kind. "When he was arrested, I thought his dishevelled black hair and the line from his neck to his jaw made him look so attractive," one anonymous poster wrote. Others have commented on his lean physique and "bravery" in the face of police questioning into the brutal killing of Miss Hawker in 2007. Lindsay Ann Hawker murder: suspect refusing to eat After Ichihashi's parents revealed that their son had been upset when the family dog died shortly before Miss Hawker's killing, some bloggers have commented on how sweet and caring they imagine he is. One woman has even visited Gyotoku Police Station, where 30-year-old Ichihashi is being questioned, with a scrap book of photos of dogs. Aya Matsumoto, a clinical psychologist, said: "It was a very cruel crime, but it seems that people here are treating it almost as if it were entertainment. It seems to me that anyone who appears on television here in Japan is immediately elevated to some sort of star and these people are unable or unwilling to associate Ichihashi with Miss Hawker's death.
"I would imagine that a lot of these women who are posting consider Ichihashi to be a helpless young boy and have fallen in love with that image. They almost have a mothering instinct and a need to care for him." Police on Tuesday refused to comment on the number of letters or gifts that have been delivered to the station for Ichihashi, but did confirm that the suspect is still refusing to answer questions about the case and will not eat. A doctor has examined Ichihashi, who has not eaten since he was arrested in Osaka on Nov 10. He had been on the run since evading police investigating Miss Hawker's death in March 2007. Her body was later found buried in sand in a bath tub on the balcony of Ichihashi's apartment in west Tokyo.

If the television is the third parent, then the computer may be the fourth. Psychologist Jane Healy warns against relying on the computer to parent your child. "We are all busy,"she says. "It is wonderful to believe that there is a parental substitute when you are tired and really don't have the patience after a long day to sit down with your children. It is so tempting to believe that the computer is doing more than you can do as parents and that belief has been encouraged in the computer ads. It is really annoying to find out that the thing that is best for your children is still your time and attention. And the computer may actually be doing your child harm."
We explore the nature of the information asymmetry between managers and market participants by studying share price behavior after the announcement of common stock and convertible debt offerings that subsequently are completed as well as offerings that subsequently are cancelled. A striking finding of our study is that completed offerings are associated with a positive return between the announcement and issuance and a negative return at the issuance. Conversely, cancelled offerings are followed by a negative return between the announcement and the cancellation and a positive return at the cancellation. The patterns of returns from the offering announcement through the issuance or cancellation are consistent with the argument that managers try to issue securities that are overpriced, and that market participants understand managers’ incentive. It appears that the market’s response to the announcement does not eliminate the difference between the market’s and managers’ assessments of share value. Rather, the negative price reaction at the issuance and the positive price reaction at the cancellation suggest that a divergence of opinion about share price exists at the outcome of the offering as well.

Conflicts arise particularly with physically frail or cognitively impaired older adults because their ability to exercise autonomy is presumed to be impaired. Psychologists working with older adults are encouraged to be prepared to work through difficult ethical dilemmas in ways that balance considerations of the ethical principles of beneficence and autonomy, guarding the older adult’s safety and well-being as well as recognizing the individual’s right to make his or her own decisions to the extent possible, and to avoid adding their own value preferences to an already complex mix (Gilhooly, 1986; Yarhouse & DeVries, 1998).
長文ですが、とっても困っています。お願いします。 Similar considerations regarding informed consent for treatment apply in work with older adults as in work with younger people. Special considerations tend to enter the picture to the degree that cognitive impairment (whether due to longstanding disabilities or age-associated changes) is present, or that the older individual may lack familiarity with the treatments that are being discussed as options. For example, while refusals of treatment always deserve to be respected, extra efforts may also be essential to assure that an older adult is making a treatment decision on an adequately informed basis. Older adults who may initially display an unwillingness to consent to participate in psychotherapy sometimes change this stance when informed that the therapy is short term, that it does not involve inpatient commitment, and that they will have the opportunity to decide their own treatment goals. As older adults are often brought in for therapy by family members, it is also important to assure that the older individual can make his or her own treatment decision independently of the desires of the family.Insistence on obtaining the individual’s personal consent often may be an important part of building rapport with the older adult (Knight, 1996).
Not too long ago, I went on a UNICEF mission to Cambodia. The problem this time was child trafficking. Cambodia has become one of the main sources of child labor for neighboring countries, particularly Thailand. Our destination was the town of Poipet, on the Thailand border. Poipet now has seven casinos catering to rich clients and is located just across the border from what we were told is the largest market in Thailand. Landless refugees and peasants have flocked to the area to find work. And with them have come their children. The average num-\ber of children per household is 5.7.
But the rumored abundance of employment is untrue, and too many people looking for too few jobs has resulted in wages that are below subsistence level. If the father succumbs to drinking, or if some other financial hardship occurs in the family, the only property to sell is the children. These children, when sold, will be sent to Thailand's big cities or to resort towns to work in assorted jobs, such as begging, the sex trade, domestic service, candy and flower selling, farm and construction work. They will be required to earn a certain amount of money each day. If they don't, they might go hungry or be beaten. Some may even lose their lives.

Even older adults with dementia often maintain the capacity to give or withhold consent until the illness has progressed to a point at which incapacity can be clearly established (Moye, 2000; Smyer & Allen-Burge, 1999). The particular point at which this occurs depends on the specific decision to be made. Even after incapacity becomes clear-cut, the individual often remains able to indicate assent to decisions. Psychologists working with older adults may often encounter confidentiality issues in situations that involve families, multidisciplinary teams, long-term care settings, or other support systems.

@One of my childhood memories is answering the door to an encyclopedia salesman. AOn more than one occasion, the salesman would spend a lot of time with my parents describing the importance of having a set of encyclopedias in the house, especially for school-aged children. BIn those days, encyclopedias were a big business. COne set cost hundreds of dollars and consisted of about 30 volumes. DIn the 1980s, the total weight of the most famous one, Encyclopedia Britannica, was over 50 kilograms. EThen came the personal computer and the Internet, and everything changed. FOne of the first things that changed encyclopedias was the CD-ROM. GA couple of small disks could hold the same amount of information as those 30 volumes. HThis not only saved on paper costs, it also saved space. IIn addition, keyword searches were usually faster than looking through paper pages. JThen once people started using the Internet, they could find information on the Web from free encyclopedias. KPerhaps the best-known of these is Wikipedia. LWikipedia, which began in 2001, has close to two million articles in English in 2007 accessible for free online. MThere are also hundreds of thousands of articles in Japanese. NAnyone can write, edit, or delete an article or parts of one at any time. OWikipedia only asks that contributors try to be truthful an unbiased. PIt is unlike a conventional encyclopedia in several ways.

@Why has the population of Amur leopards become so small? AOne reason is poaching and illegal trade;Amur leopards have been poached for their beautiful, spotted fur. BTo make matters worse, human villages surround the forests where Amur leopards live. CThis means that it is quite easy for the villagers to go into the forests and,as a result, too many leopards are being killed for money. DAnother reason is havitat loss. EFrom the 1950s through the 1970s,some of the forests in the southeast of Russia were cleared for building many military faclities. FSince the 1990s large-scale deforestation has been carried out in this area for timver exports. GIn addition, the forests are damaged by fires. HFarmers burn their fields to make them more fertile but this damages the forest. IAll these factors lead to the destruction of habitats of Amur leopards.

On this basis, the Chairman directed the staff to proceed with the approach as adopted, but to work with those who were opposed to the approach to ensure that their concerns were reflected adequately in the Basis for Conclusions.

The total amount of solar cells in the country amounts to 1.13 million kW worth of generation, making Japan the greatest solar-power generating country in the world. This is in part due to the introduction of state subsidies in 1994 to help cover for the high cost of installation and boost home use of solar cells.

どなたか翻訳お願いします In 1999, 11 countries in Europe agreed to form their own monetary union and use a common currency, the euro. The introduction of the euro is an extension of the European Monetary System (EMS), which attempted to limit exchange rates fluctuations. The European Union allows member countries to avoid concerns about exchange rate movements and eliminates fees for currency exchange among member nations. One of the goals of this organization is to encourage international trade among the participating countries. The adoption of the euro has its costs. Most notably, participating countries are no longer able to enforce their own monetary policies. The central bank, European Central Bank (ECB) sets a single monetary policy for all of Europe. Advocates of a common currency believe that the loss of national monetary policy is more than offset by other gains. The twentieth century was marked by two large wars, both in Europe. If a common currency makes the nations more harmonious, it will benefit Europe and the world.
長文です The expanded EU created a giant single market across 25 states. This cooperation among countries means more freedom, opportunity, and access for many people, and a permanent end to the cold war’s divide between Western and Eastern bloc nations. By increasing competition and opening markets, the EU will also help defeat the welfare state consensus that dominates Western Europe and has resulted in many of its economic troubles. In October 1999, the European Commission extended the accession negotiations which started in 1998 with Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovenia by adding additional candidates, including Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Romania, and Slovakia. Each country will progress at its own speed in implementing the reforms necessary to satisfy the Copenhagen Criteria for accession. The expansion will benefit the existing 15 EU countries. Consequently, 10 of the 12 candidate countries agreed to join the EU. EU expansion is likely to have significant effects on foreign direct investment(FDI) and trade between the present EU and central an Eastern Europe (CEE) because the participation of CEE countries into the common market will remove the current barriers to free trade of goods, labor, and capital.
255の続きです The CEE countries will attract FDI because they have a large pool of potential customers. These countries possess a relatively well- educated labor force that is available at comparatively low costs. FDI will enable these CEE customers to be better served and to take advantage of cost savings. FDI from the EU to CEE countries is increasing constantly despite the fact that the present political and economic instability of the region is causing delays in investments. The EU provides the CEE countries with a huge market for their products/ this combined with relative advantages in labor and skill- intensive production, is likely to result in increased trade between CEE countries and the current EU countries. Such trade should bring considerable trade flows, that is, intermediate products will bee imported, assembled, and prepared for reexport to the EU as quasi- finished goods. お手数ですがこちらも翻訳お願い致します
First Squad is a joint animation project of Japan's Studio 4°C and Russian authors with Molot Entertainment. It won the Kommersant newspaper's prize.[2] Set during the opening days of World War II on the Eastern Front. Its main cast are a group of Soviet teenagers with extraordinary abilities; the teenagers have been drafted to form a special unit to fight the invading German army. They are opposed by a Schutzstaffel (SS) officer who is attempting to raise from the dead a supernatural army of crusaders from the 12th-century Order of the Sacred Cross and enlist them in the Nazi cause. Pretty soon all the teenagers die, except for the protagonist Nadia. She is taken to a secret Soviet lab that studies supernatural phenomena, especially contacts with the dead. Nadia's task is to dive into the world of the dead for reconnaissance. There, in the Gloomy Valley, she meets her dead friends and tries to persuade them to continue fighting. The animation is interspersed with mockumentary "present day" sequences, where Soviet and German war veterans, a historian and a psychologist comment real historical events and the events of the plot as if they were historical.

The skin is the largest organ in the body, measuring around two square metres. Distributed unevenly across it are 2,800,000 receptors for pain, 200,000 for cold, and 500,000 for touch and pressure. From birth, girls are dramatically more sensitive to touch and, as an adult, a woman’s skin is at least ten times more sensitive to touch and pressure than a man’s. In one authoritative study it was found that the boys who tested most sensitive to touch felt even less than the least sensitive girls. Female skin is thinner than male skin and has an extra fat layer below it for more warmth in winter and to provide greater endurance.
To be sure, we can reach good conclusions in ways other than through reasons and evidence: we can rely on tradition and authority or on intuition, spiritual insight, even on our most visceral emotions. But when we try to explain to others not just why we believe our claims but why they should too, we must do more than just state an opinion and describe our feelings.
That is how a research report differs from other kinds of persuasive writing: it must rest on shared facts that readers accept as truths independent of your feelings and beliefs. They must be able to follow your reasoning from evidence that they accept to the claim you draw from it.
The study of rationality, which is of such great evaluative and practical importance both personally and socially, has gotten transformed into a technical subject. Principles were sharpened to delineate valid reasoning and to capture the patterns of belief and action supported by reasons. Deductive logic was transformed by Gottlob Frege in the late nineteenth century and burst into technical elaboration in the twentieth. Systems of logic were developed and their own properties and limitations were explored using logical techniques. Probabilities theory led to formal theories of statistical inference, and mathematization permeated attempts to theorize about the rationality of belief and to formulate the rudiments of an inductive logic, or at least of inductive rules of acceptance.
Asleek and powerful theory of rational action―decision theory―was developed in this century by mathematicians, economists, statisticians, and philosophers, and now this theory is applied in a wide variety of theoretical and practical contexts. (The apparatus of this theory provides the framework for the formal theory of rational strategic interaction, game theory, the formal theory of social choice and welfare economics, the theory of microeconomic phenomena, and elaborate theories of the polotical realm.)
The relevant litierature is sprinkled with, when not wholly engulfed by, forbidding formulas in unfamiliar symbolic notations that are elaborated into mathematical structures. I do not decry this turn. These current theoretical developments are continuous with the earlier motivations and concerns, and they carry the inquiry much further.
Where Are The Politicians With Their Heads Up Their Asses? We Sure Need Them Again
It’s time some of our political leaders get their head out of the sand and put it back up their ass where it belongs. Years ago the worst thing we could say about our politicians was that they had their head up their ass. In all honesty we usually said this as an affectionate tongue and cheek comment in regards to a domestic policy we disagreed with and not so much the person.
However, a large majority of American leadership has their head stuck in the sand in Iraq, Afghanistan, and it appears they are now eyeballing an ostrich hole in Iran. Meanwhile, America is experiencing a slowdown in job creation, real wage earning, and regardless of what Republican polls we read a real loss of confidence in our own economy.

Global warming means the rise in the temperature of the earth. This has a physical impact on the very shape of the earth. For example, the glacier lakes of the Himalayas are filling as the glaciers melt under the impact of global warming. One lake in Bhutan was 1.6 kms long,0.96 kms wide, and 80 meters deep in 1986. Nine years later,it was 1.94 kms long,1.13 kms wide, and 27 meters deeper. Scientists say,"24 glacier lakes in Bhutan and 20 in Nepal have become very dangerous. They may flood and destroy villages downstream." It is said that the impact of global warming is also serious in Tuvalu, a small island country in the South Pacific. The country is made up of coral reefs and it is only a few meters above the sea level. If global warming makes the sea level rise, then the rising sea many cover this tiny island country.
Global warming also influences the ecology of the earth. For example, there are parts of the Arctic Ocean where the temperature has risen by six degrees during the last one hundred years. This leads to melting the snow that covers the nests of seals. Because of this, some seals cannot bring up their babies; they can't make safe nests for their babies away from animals such as polar bears. In another case,in Alaska, trees are dying. Until recently, cold winters used to kill insects that ate the trees. Now,with warmer winters, the insects eat the trees every year. A scientist says that if this continues,Alaska's forests will have changed to grasslands by the turn of the next century. Global warming damages not only animals and plants but also human beings. Some health experts believe that a warming climate could increase the spread of malaria. In fact, the mosquitoes that spread the disease have recently been found in regions that were once too cold for them.

Recently, two prominent members of Congress ・Democratic Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts and Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham of South Carolina ・called for the construction of more nuclear plants as part of a "blueprint for a clean-energy future."
In addition to existing and proposed incentives, they cited the need for an improved nuclear-permitting process so that construction of new plants can proceed without unnecessary redundancy and delay that would only add time and cost to projects without increasing public safety.
Several factors are driving interest in new reactor construction. One is a forecast for increased electricity demand in future years. The Energy Information Administration projects the United States will need 21 percent more electricity by 2030.
The need for more nuclear plants was cited in a recent report of the National Academy of Sciences. The report confirmed that substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions are achievable over the next two to three decades from the increased use of a range of low-carbon energy technologies, including nuclear power.
I never forget some time ago about fourteen professors came from the United States from different universities. And they came to Calcutta to our house. Then we were talking about that they had been to the home for the dying. We have a home for the dying in Calcutta, where we have picked up more than 36,000 people only from the streets of Calcutta, and out of that big number more than 18,000 have died a beautiful death. They have just gone home to God; and they came to our house and we talked of love, of compassion, and then one of them asked me: Say, Mother, please tell us something that we will remember, and I said to them: Smile at each other, make time for each other in your family. Smile at each other.
Another factor that's spurring interest in nuclear power is the emission-reduction goals of climate-change legislation now moving through Congress. In its review of the Waxman-Markey bill that the House of Representatives passed in June, the Environmental Protection Agency said that an additional 180 nuclear plants would be needed to meet the legislation's emission targets.
The Energy Policy Act ・which Congress passed in 2005 ・contains a number of worthwhile provisions that encourage the development of nuclear and other low-carbon energy sources. For wind and solar systems and for nuclear plants, there are loan guarantees and production tax credits. Loan guarantees are needed so that companies can obtain private financing for construction of power plants and other infrastructure i mprovements that have high, up-front capital costs.
Without wasting any further time, Mr.Shimizu went on to find something else he could do. Since he had taught students for many years, he had a loud, clear speaking voice, so he began making audio recordings of books for the visually impaired――people who can't see well enough to read books. While he was doing that, he happened to learn about the JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) overseas volunteer program for people aged 40 to 69. Mr.Shimizu read that there was one position for an English teacher in Laos. This would be a chance to live in another country! He applied for the job and passed the test. Unfortunately, the position in Laos was already filled, so he waited for two years until it opened up. By that time he was already sixty-eight years old, but undaunted, he set off.

To get there, first he had to fly from Tokyo to Bangkok, and from there to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. the final leg of the journey was a flight from Vientiane to Luangprabang. The distance is not far, but Laos is largely covered in jungle, and there is no railroad to connect the different parts of the country. Life in Luangprabang was simple compared to modern Japanese standards, but Mr.Shimizu found it suited him well. "Look at these pictures! Everyone is smiling!" he said as he showed me his photo album. Sure enough, the Laotian people he had photographed all had faces wreathed in smiles. Their expressions were the same as his! He said that everyone in town knew him, and he always felt safe because the whole time he was there he was surrounded by friends. He was never alone or vulnerable. Why has the temperature of the earth been rising? There are two possible answers. The first answer focuses on the root causes. One root cause is the industrialization of the last century. Another root cause is the great increase in the earth's human population. Both of these have great impacts on natural resources. The second answer focuses on proximate causes. For example, too much CO2 is produced by burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil. And, more methane gas is produced from ranches that raise cattle for meat. Further, chemicals used by industry and indivisuals can damage the environment. Taken together, these factors have caused the earth's average temperature to rise by one dgree since 1880. You might think that the change of one degree Celsius does not matter, but it does when it comes to the whole earth. Just ask the people of Nepal and Tuvalu. Global warming is with us.
What can we do to stop global warming? First, we can treat this problem on the national level. For example, within ten years the Icelandic government will change fossil energy resources for renewable ones such as water, windand the heat from the earth. Local governments in many countries, such as Norway and Germany, have long had rules about recycling trash. To reduce pollution, some cities limit areas where cars and buses may enter. Instead, they make a lot of areas for bicycles. Second, the solution also depends on individuals. We should not only follow national rules, but also find out and practice what each of us can do about global warming. For example, we can turn off electric lights when they are not necessary. We can reduce garbage by not ordering too much food in restaurants. When we write, we can reduce the use of paper by writing on both sides. Individual efforts like these may seem to be vary small, but when united, they can help reduce global warming.

New research published in The Lancet medical journal by doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London provides more evidence milk from the breast is best. “We have demonstrated that whether you are fed human milk or formula makes a difference as to blood pressure, which is an important cardiovascular risk factor,” professor Alan Lucas said in a telephone interview.

Doctors told not to give Tamiflu to teenagers 医師らに10代の若者にタミフルを処方しないよう呼びかけた
Japanese doctors were warned Wednesday against prescribing Tamiflu to people between age 10 and 19 after two more cases were reported of young patients exhibiting dangerous behavior after taking the drug. タミフルを服用した若い患者が危険行動を示したという新たに2件の報告がされたことによって、水曜、日本の医師らに、10〜19歳の人にタミフルを処方する事について警告がされた。
The Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry issued emergency instructions Tuesday to Tamiflu importer and distributor Chugai Pharmaceutical Co. to warn doctors not to give the drug to patients in that age bracket. 厚生労働省は火曜日、医師らに10代の患者にタミフルを処方しないよう警告するため、タミフルの輸入業者と卸売業者である中外製薬に緊急指示を出した
Chugai said it began distributing warnings to doctors, hospitals and pharmacies nationwide Wednesday. 中外製薬は水曜に全国の薬局と病院、医師の元へ警告の配布を開始したと伝えた。
Concerns over Tamiflu have spiked in Japan after a boy and a girl, both 14, fell from their condos and died after taking the drug in separate incidents in Miyagi and Aichi prefectures in February. 2月、宮城県と愛知県でそれぞれ14歳の少年と少女がタミフルを飲んだ後にマンションから飛び降りて死亡するという事件が起こり、日本ではタミフルへの関心が急上昇した。
The ministry said Tuesday it was informed that two 12-year-old boys jumped off the second floors of their houses and broke their legs after taking Tamiflu, in February and March, respectively. 厚生労働省によると火曜日、2月と3月にタミフルを服用した2人の12歳の男の子らがそれぞれ自宅の2階から飛び降り、足の骨を折ったという報告があったと伝えた。
The ministry also said it had been informed since last year of seven cases in which adult men fell from buildings and structures or collapsed to the floor after taking the flu drug. 厚生労働省は昨年から成人男性がタミフルを服用した後に床へ倒れたり、建物などから落ちるという事が7件報告があったとも伝えた。
Two of them died. そのうち2人は死亡した。
The adults were aged between 26 and 74. The two men who died were a 51-year-old patient who jumped from a hospital room after leaving a note and a 49-year-old man whose body was found in the sea after leaving his vehicle parked on a pier. 26〜74歳の大人では。2人の男性が死亡し、51歳の男性患者は書き置きを残したあと病院の窓から飛び降り、49歳の男性は埠頭に車を残した後、海で遺体が発見された。
Tamiflu is one of the few drugs believed to be effective in treating bird flu and is stock-piled by 75 countries around the world. It is widely used in Japan to treat influenza. タミフルは鳥インフルエンザの治療に有効であると言われているいくつかの薬のうちの1つで、世界中の75カ国に備蓄されている。タミフルは日本ではインフルエンザの治療に広く使われている。
On Tuesday, the health ministry told Chugai to state in the explanatory note accompanying the drug that its use by patients between 10 and 19 should be stopped in principle, except when the patient would suffer seriously without the drug. 厚生労働省は火曜日、中外製薬がタミフルに関する注記の中で患者が薬なしで深刻な苦しみを訴える時は例外とするが、原則として10〜19歳の患者へのタミフルの使用を中止しなければならないと述べていると伝えた。
The drug may be taken by patients ranging from infants to 9 years old because they have a higher risk of dying from influenza. 10代の患者はインフルエンザで死ぬよりも高い危険性があるため、タミフルは幼児から9歳の範囲の患者によって使用されると思われる。

I'd been doing exams non-stop since the age of 11. I wanted to travel, to learn a language, but I didn't want to do it aimlessly, so I thought I'd try to get a place in a circus school overseas."
どういう場面でこの表現を使えるか、を広く知りたいのなら、 たとえばGoogleで検索すればたくさん用例が拾えるでしょう。 "before I go too far", "before you go too far", "before he goes too far", ..., それに "before going too far" とかで検索してみてください。
Traffic congestion is normally heaviest during daily peak periods when most people are traveling to or from work, so public transit's relationship to commuting is crucial to its possible role in alleviating congestion.
These data plus the census commuting data set forth earlier indicate that increased ridership on public transit apparently does not come primarily from greater transit commuting but from other trip purposes.

A first-person shooter video game was adapted for the study of causal decision making within dynamic environment. The video game included groups of three potential targets. Participants chose which of the three targets in each group was producing distal explosions. The actual source of the explosion effect varied in the delay between the firing of its weapon and the effect (from 0 to 2 s), whether these programed average delays were constant or varied from shot to shot, and whether the delays were unfilled or filled with an auditory event. In Experiment 1, participants' choise accuracy was highest with shorter delays, but there was no effect of fillng the delay and same benefical effect of varying the delay. These results were re-examined in Experiment 2 but with participants experiensing the same average delay was introduced. In this experiment, men showed a strong and consistent benefit of filling a delay whereas women did not. Participants behavior is considered within the context of a model that assumes that choice behavior is driven by experienced contiguity for the taeget and foils.
These results were re-examined in Experiment 2 but with participants experiencing the same average delay ●for seven subsequent decisions before the next average delay● was introduced. これらの結果は実験2で追試されたが、ただしこのときは参加者の経験する平均遅延時間は、7回の 連続した選択について一定とし、その後で別の値とする、という形にした。
長文ですがどなたか和訳お願いします @Sanrio Co., Ltd., the home of Hello Kitty and other characters, was founded by former civil servant Shintaro Tsuji. Upon passing the civil service examination, he started working at the Yamanashi Prefectural Office and was assigned to the Division of Commerce and Industry. Realizing that he was more suited to be an entrepreneur, Tsuji quit his secure job after working there for over a decade. With one million yen in capital, he and three others established a company in 1960. Fourteen years later, the Spanish words “san” (saintly) and “rio” (river) were combined to create the image of exemplary ancient cultures existing along great ricers. The name Sanrio reflects the goal of the company-to help build and nurture a harmonious community where people care for and cooperate with others.
Tsuji asked himself what makes people happy, and concluded that it was expressions of trust, respect, and love among people. For example, if a friend does you a favor, you can express your gratitude by telephoning, by writing, or by giving a small inexpensive gift. The key is the heartfelt person-to-person contact, which is why Sanrio maintains its stance on producing unostentatious gifts.
Sanrio’s principal business activities are in the sphere of manufacturing and selling of “social communication” gifts and greeting card; planning an production of books, magazines, videos, DVDs, and theatrical works; and operation of family- oriented restaurants and theme parks. Fiscal 2005 consolidated sales came to 101.1 billion yen, of which 89.2% came from the “social communication” gifts division.
AThree core businesses are tightly woven into the “social communication” division. The first is Sanrio supply merchandising, which is a vertically integrated structure in which Sanrio plans and designs its own merchandise, subcontracts the production, and then ships the merchandise to Sanrio-owned or special outlets to customers. In the 1970s and’80s department stores did not offer floor space to individual companies, but Tsuji convinced Mitsukoshi in Nihonbashi to let it be the first store to provide him with space. Sanrio’s control over the whole supply and retail chain allows it to maintain consumer-friendly prices, as well as control quality and supply. The second business is character management, commonly known as brand management, which is the use of character-intellectual properties-to create brand merchandise. Sanrio’s first original character design, Strawberry, was produced in 1962. twelve years later the star of Sanrio characters, Hello Kitty, who was appointed Child Ambassador for UNICEF in Japan in 1994, made her debut. The third important part of the “social communication” division is character licensing, which is built upon the assets of Sanrio’s original character properties. Sanrio is giving permission to companies, domestic and abroad, to use its characters in other media products, such as toasters and cars. Sanrio was the first company in Japan to employ character licensing as a core business. Tsuji thought that if a company produced a hit product, other companies would also start making it, and the resulting price war could drive some of the companies out of business. A product patent would stave off competition for 20 years, but a copyright was good for 50 years in Japan. Deciding that copyright and licensing would keep Sanrio financially healthy, Tsuji made sure that Sanrio did not limit itself to merely supply merchandising.
BThere were 1500 Sanrio group employees as of March 2005. Over 80% of those involved is designing and planning are women. It will be interesting to see how they generate “big smiles” products in the coming years and help Sanrio top its sales for fiscal 2005. 長くなってすいません よろしくお願いします
かなりの長文なのですが・・・ (1/3) Not too long ago, I went on a UNICEF mission to Cambodia.
(2/3) Some of the children are arrested and sent back to Cambodia. In Poipet alone, every month more than 300 deported children return from Thailand. The trafficker is usually a woman who has contacts with people in Thailand who are looking for cheap labor. The seller is usually a parent. These parents may believe that their children will find work in Thailand and be able to send money back to the family.
To try to understand why a family becomes des-perate enough to part with their children, and to find out what we can do to help, we went to Poipet.
It was there I met Wani. She is twelve years old and works as an umbrella bearer. With her umbrella, Wani escorts guests from one of the casinos to nearby taxi stations for pocket change. Tough and dark, but small, Wani says she can earn 30 bahts (\90 ) per day.
(3/3) We asked her to let us go home with her. She lives more than four kilometers from the border. To go home, she pays three to ten bahts for a one-way ride on the back of a motorcycle. Her house was far into the grasslands, away from the city slums.
Wani's mother was tending a baby, and two of her younger siblings were looking after themselves. Her father was not home yet. "My brother went to Thailand eight months ago and never came back," said Wani. Her father sent her out to work when she was ten. She leaves the house every day at 5:30 a.m. and returns at 5:30 p.m. She does not get much rest. As soon as she got home, her mother ordered her to feed the children. Wani held the four-year-old and two-year-old in her arms and trudged through the rain to the kitchen built nearby. They sat and ate cold rice in the dark. Wani's next-door neighbors sold their daughter to a trafficker several months ago, and Wani could be the next victim. どなたかお時間のある方おねがいします・・・

The two had decided to murder somebody , but they hadn't quite decied who. One of them(Richard) hit the boy they had picked up over the head with a chisel , then pulled the fresh copse into the back seat and wrapped a blanket round it. After driving around their neighborhood for a while , they took the body out of town , stripped it to prevent identification , and dumped it thirty kilometers south of the city. Then they drove back into Chicago , had dinner in a restaurant , drove on to the home of the other boy(Nathan) and sat up till late , talking. Next morning , they cleaned up the car - very imperfectly - returned it to the car hire firm , and went on with ordinary life.

It has been said that no one who is in a hurry is quite civilized.
@Make a study schedule for yourself, but don't study too much in one day. You remember more by studying one hour each day for six days, than six hours in one day. Also, don't study late at night(we often forget information studied then). AYou learn best when you study in two hour blocks. Every two hours, take a break for 15 to 20 minutes. Go outside and walk. Exercise is a great way to reduce stress. It can also improve memory and help you sleep better at night. BDon't eat or drink a lot of sugar and caffeine. Eat foods high in vitamin B(for example, eggs, yogurt, green vegetables, tofu, rice). These give you energy and help you think more clearly. CA study partner can help you practice for the test. When you're worried about the exam, you can talk to your partner. This can reduce stress, too.
訳お願いします The use of superconductors to transmit electricity could save an enormous amount of energy. As electrical energy travels through the metal wires we now use, a lot of it is wasted as heat. This would be greatly reduced through the use of superconductors. The Meissner Effect could be used in transportation on superconductors, with no energy wasted due to friction. Trials have been done in Japan of prototypes of trains that use this method. Computer chips waste a lot of energy by converting electricity to heat, and superconductors could solve this problem. No doubt there are many other possibilities that we can't even imagine at the moment.
In the United States, deaths due to pneumonia and influenza (P&I mortality) continued to increase past the epidemic threshold for the past 8 weeks and cumulative rates of hospitalizations for the current influenza season have exceeded rates seen in recent seasons among all age groups except those aged ≥ 65.
The Global Influenza Surveillance Network (GISN) continues monitoring the global circulation of influenza viruses, including pandemic, seasonal and other influenza viruses infecting, or with the potential to infect, humans including seasonal influenza.
◆Yvonne was a waitperson in a coffee shop in Brooklyn. Charlie was a police officer on Brooklyn too. One day Charlie was on patrol with his partner, Jimmy. The dropped in at the coffee shop for lunch. They ordered coffee, a cheeseburger and a meatball sandwich from Yvonne, who came to the table. Just as the police officers were about to drink their coffee, there was a car accident right in front of the shop. So they had to give up their lunches. When they left, Charlie tried to pay for the uneaten food, but Yvonne refused to accept his money. “Then, at least I'll leave a tip for you, ” said Charlie as he tried to find a one-dollar bill in his wallet. But he didn't have one. Neither did Jimmy. “I'm sorry I don't have a tip for you. So let me give you this lottery ticket.” “No, I can't take it. Thanks, anyway. Now, go back to your duties.” “Then here's a promise. If this ticket wins, you take half of the money. OK?” said Charlie and left. “OK.” Yvonne replied. Then she said to herself, “I wish it could happen to me.”
◆That night, Muriel, Charlie's wife, was very excited while watching the announcement of the winning numbers of the lottery. “Five, sic and SEVEN!! Oh, my goodness. I can't believe it! This must be a dream. We won! We did it! We finally did it! We're millionaires.” Charlie came into the living room, but could not figure out why his wife was so excited. “Hey Muriel, why are you so excited? Calm down.” “How can you be calm? That's impossible, We won the you understand, Charlie? TWO MILLION DOLLARS!!” After a while, Charlie told his wife about the promise he had made at the coffee shop. Split it in half? What do you mean by that? You're kidding. You should tell her you lost the ticket. That's it! She won't remember the promise,“ said Muriel angrily. I can't do that. A promise is a promise.”
◆Charlie went to the coffee shop the next day. Yvonne was very kindly waiting on her customers, an old man and a physically challenged person. She was even treating a homeless person to soup. “Hi. I came back to give you the tip I promised yesterday,” said Charlie. “I want you to choose a cash tip or the lottery ticket.” Charlie approached Yvonne and asked the question, “Which do you want?” Yvonne was not selfish even though her life was not easy. “I'll take the ticket. I know it won't win.” “Congratulations! You won!” “What? Don't carry the joke too far.” “No, I'm not kidding. This was truly a lucky number. So you deserve half of it.” “How much is half?” “One million dollars.” “I can't believe it!” she said. Then she shouted to a;; the customers. “Everybody, today you can eat all the ice cream you want, It's on me.” The next day all the tabloids in New York had the headline: ‘Million dollar tip: Police officer gives to waitperson’
◆One day, there was a party cruise to celebrate their lottery win. Charlie was late due to work and missed the ship on which the party was held. Muriel took part in the party alone and was keen to learn from millionaires about how to increase the money. Charlie got to the dock just after the ship had left. There, he saw Yvonne, who had also missed the ship. The two decided to have dinner together. Finding each other easy to talk with, they enjoyed planning what good things they could do with the money. Some days later, they put their plans into practice. Charlie rented Yankee Stadium and had children from his neighborhood play baseball there, which was the children's dream. Yvonne bought the coffee shop and treated needy people with priority. The two bought several hundred subway tokens and gave them to people who needed them. They wanted to share their good luck with more people.
◆Muriel was very angry about the good deeds of the two. So she kicked Charlie out and sued him for divorce. The settlement included the money that he had given to Yvonne, as well as all of his money. Because of the skill of Muriel's lawyer, all the money was taken away from the two, Muriel soon got married to an old millionaire she had met on the ship. Yvonne lost her coffee shop. So she decided to go back to her hometown far from New York. Charlie decided to go with her since he was tried of life in the city. On a rainy night a few days before they left New York, they were dancing quietly in Yvonne's coffee shop. A homeless man knocked on the door and asked for something to eat as usual. Interrupted in her sad dance with Charlie, Yvonne opened the door without hesitation and served him a bowl of hot soup.
◆The next morning, a major tabloid newspaper had a photo of Charlie and Yvonne dancing sorrowfully along with a sympathetic story. The homeless man was really a report for the news paper. A few days later when they were leaving the city, they dropped in at the coffee shop for a final farewell. When they tried to open the door, they could not. With trouble they pushed it open and found a pile of letters behind the door. They opened the letters one by one. One letter from a child read, “It was sad to know the police officer and the waitperson who did good deeds became broke and unhappy. So let me send you one dollar so that Yvonne can open her coffee shop again.” To their surprise, many of the letters contained one-dollar bills, 20-dollar bills, or even 100-dollar bills as donations for the coffee shop. Big bags stuffed with hundreds of letters came day in and day out. Charlie and Yvonne were more pleased with the messages sent than the money. They gave some of the money to charity. Yvonne opened the coffee shop again. It is still there in Brooklyn today.
@We have already discussed how the globalization of the world economy is helping countries such as China and India. AWe have seen how jobs are being created in these countries, such as the call centers in India, where emplpyees earn salaries that are much higher than the average. BThese types of jobs are creating a new middle class in these countries. CIt is well known that as a country's income level rises, so does its consumption of animal protein. DThe fastest growing economy in the world, China, is a good example of this. EIn the last 25 years, China's pork production increased 500 percent, but its population grew only about 25 percent in that time. FIn the same period, America's pork production increased only 50 percent. GNow half of the world's pork is eaten in China. HAbout 20 years ago, American and Cinese farms produced the same amount of meat, including pork, beef, and chicken. INow Chinese farms produce twice as much as America's.
アグネス・チャンのエッセイです 1/3 I had a bad day today. I sang my new Japanese song on a popular TV variety program, but I was overwhelmed by stage fright and I gave a less than perfect performance. The members of my staff were very disappointed and everyone offered me advice. All of them were trying to tell me that I had blown my big chance.
I went home all stressed out, hating myself and feeling helpless. Alone and tired, I turned to my computer. I started typing out messages to my friends. I knew they could not help me with my singing or get my big chance back for me, but I just thought I needed to talk to someone. At that moment my youngest son came up to me and said, "Mum, your song was beautiful today." Tears came to my eyes. This little guy was trying to comfort me. He knew exactly what I was thinking. After all, Ithought, I am a very lucky woman.
2/3 As some of you might have already noticed, I recently re-launched my singing career. Actually, I hadn't really given up on singing, but I had been singing songs that were different from the type I had sung in the past. After I got married and became active as a speaker, teacher and volunteer, I began singing mostly children's songs and songs with definite messages. Then, while visiting a slum in Thailand, the local people suddenly started to sing some of my old Hong Kong hits, songs that were about 30 years old. I was really moved.
"Sing, Agnes, sing! Sing with joy in your heart and love in your voice. Thank God for giving you the ability to express yourself in your own special way. You are destined to sing, and your music will soothe the souls of many people. So, go ahead. Don't be afraid. Sing, Agnes, sing!" Those were the words of Sister Rosalie, the adviser of a folk song club in my secondary school in Hong Kong. She had selected me to sing a solo part in a concert. When she found me all nervous and trembling backstage, she spoke those encouraging words to me.
3/3 Sister Rosalie's advice sounded like a song in itself. It also sounded like a prayer. But it was only 30 years later, at this moment of absolute loneliness, when I thought I had blown my big chance, that I remembered her kind words. I also remembered taking her advice to heart and doing my best to follow it. I then remembered being scouted by a big producer, which led to the release of my first song the following year. Of course, Sister Rosalie was right ― I should be thankful for having the chance to sing. That's what had been missing today, I realized. I had forgotten to put joy in my heart and love in my voice. Never again will I forget to do this, I promise. The next time you see me singing on TV, I will not be afraid anymore.
Do you have something that you are afraid of? Maybe we can overcome it together. The world is becoming so frightening these days that many people are going to extremes to avoid contact with society. Maybe they too, like me, have forgotten how lucky they are to be able to see, to walk, to talk, to be alive. I know people who cannot breathe by themselves; I know people who cannot eat by themselves; yet they try to stay happy. It is easy to give up, but, while difficult, it is also much more fun and rewarding to keep trying. I am going to try. If you too have something you need to work at, let's do it together. It will be easier that way. 長文ですがお時間のある方、よろしくおねがいします!
Detecting infections Health care providers need to inspect the patient for signs of infection. Signs of a local infection include: swelling, redness, pain, or tenderness upon palpation. Signs of a systemic infection include: fever, increased pulse and respiratory rate, malaise, loss of energy, and enlargement and tenderness of lymph nodes that drain the area of infection. Laboratory data that indicate the presence of an infection include: elevated white blood cell count, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and urine, blood, and sputum cultures that indicate pathogenic microorganisms.
Treating and preventing nosocomial infections From the laboratory data, health care personnel try to identify causative factors of nosocomial infection and then plan specific strategies to prevent or treat it. They need to use appropriate asepsis when necessary, and restore the patient’s defenses by providing adequate fluids and nutrition, promoting rest, and administering and monitoring prescribed antimicrobial medication. To prevent infections, all health care personnel need to practice the following steps. @Wash hands before and after any direct patient contact, before any invasive procedure (e.g., urinary catheterization ) , and after contact with any substance from the body ( e.g., feces , urine, and would drainage ). AEmploy practice to reduce the number of harmful organisms in the environment, e.g., change moist dressings frequently since drainage on dressings often has a heavy concentration of microorganisms. BHandle needles and syringes carefully to avoid needle prick injuries and avoid recapping needles. CUse surgical asepsis when inserting any intravenous needles or a catheter and check intravenous solutions for expiration date and clarity.
@This was, in fact, what had drawn us to Cambridge, rather than Oxford : namely, the memory of her poets in general, and of her greatest poet John Milton in particular. His college, however, was none of those I have enumerated along the riverside, but one further inland beyond the city market, Christ`s. This was, needless to say, the climax of our tour of the university the following day, which we made not by boat but on our feet. We found its portal fresh and newly painted, and as we passed beneath we came into Milton`s court-though which of the rooms around it was Milton`s room, the porter was unable to tell us for certain. At least he was honest: a dishonest porter would simply have pointed out one of the rooms at random and lest us, as all too many guides leave their groups, in all the certainty of error. Further on inside, in the Fellows`Garden, we were led to Milton`s mulberry tree. At least, though the Garden was closed to visitors, we were able to make out the shape and the leaves of a mulberry tree, though it wasn`t so large as we had expected it to be.
AHere the great Milton had spent seven formative years of his life from 1625 to 1632, during the peaceful early period of King Charle`reign. Looking back over that period, we can safely say it was the happiest time Englishmen had known or were to know for many a century. But its happiness was brought to an end all too soon by the restlessness of the Puritans, supported-strangely enough-by the poet of Paradise Lost. "The best is enemy of the good"; and it was in their pursuit of an impossible best that the Puritans of the seventeenth century-like the Marxists of today-fought and destroyed yhe good. Milton, too, fought by their side not with the sword but with his pen-even going so far as to justify their unjustifiable execution of the king in 1649.
BIn his student days, however, Milton could largely ignore the political conflict which was even then brewing between king and parliament in the troubled city of London, the very place of his birth and burial. It was for him the springtime of youth, when, as he sings in one of his early poems, "the bright morning star day`s harbinger, comes dancing from the East and leads with her the flowery May, who from her green lap throws the yellow cowslip and the pale primrose."
Now, like Chaucer in the Middle Ages, he found himself on a pilgrimage, in the humanist sense of the word: in search not so much of health or holiness as of knowledge and wisdom. This is the search he subsequently expressed in a delightful pair of poems, entitled in Italian "L`Allegro"and"Il Penseroso", in terms of a choice between an active life in the country and a contemplative life at the university. In fact, he went on to choose an active life of political controversy in the city, before he eventually settled down to a life of poetic contemplation also in the city. But his personal ideal is stated in these two poems as away from the city, between the country and the university.

Then, when the Turks had advanced a long way from their own lines, about one hundred Arabs suddenly came over a hill on the light of the Turks and began shooting with machine guns. The Turks tried to run back to their own lines, but it was too far. The machine guns cut them to pieces. The Arabs killed 400 Turks and 200 mules and captured 250 prisoners and 27 machine guns. "...this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom..." The next monrning, a teacher said, "Clifton, could I see you for a moment?" Frank turned pale. One of our water balloons had hit a lady and her dog the night before. "Clifton." the teacher began, "do you know about the Mason-Dixon line?" "No," I said, wondering what this had to do with dropping water balloons. "Before the Clivil War," the teacher explained, "the Meason-Dixon line was the line between Pennsylvania and Maryland - the line between the free and slave states. Today, the Mason-Dixson line is a kind of invisible border between the North and the South. When you cross that invisible line into Maryland, things change. We are going to Glen Echo Park... It's in Maryland, and black people can't go in." "You mean I can't go to the park," I asked, "because I'm black?" She nodded slowly. However, the consumption of meat has a bad effect on the environment. Let us consider two surces of protein in the food we eat: soybeans and beef. When we eat soybeans, we get our protein directly from the plant itself. However, when we eat beef, an extra step is required because the cow must first eat plants such as corn and grass as it grows. Most of this grass and corn goes towards simply keeping the cow alive and allowing it to move. Therefore, eating meat is a very wasteful way of getting our protein because it requires much more land (about 10 times), water, oil(tractors and trucks), and chemicals (pesticides and fertilizers) than soybeans. In addition, it also creates a huge amount of animal waste. This means that eating meat is much more stressful on the environment than eating vegetables. Farmed fish raises similar issues. Now over half of the salmon and shirmp consumed are farmed.
Hey it's no problem. I just didn't know if you saw it. Yeah I hate that the girls do most of the stomping...you can still see, especially in the beggining that the boy on the left steps on a roach and it's guts squish out while the letters are still on the screen "do your part." I've heard about the movie, but I've never seen it, and I don't know if they're real or not. Sorry! Haha Im sorry man..but you seem to understand english pretty well!
I'll always keep on the look out for vids you might like...but generally I don't search for boys eating bugs, or doing other cruel things, other than stepping on them, which is what I like best.
Anyway you are welcome and I hope you are doing well!

As in our democracy we enjoy the right to believe in different religious creeds or in none, so can American artists express themselves with complete freedom from the structures of dead artistic tradition or political ideology. While American artists have discovered a new obligation to the society in which they live, they have no compulsion to be limited in method or manner of expression

Pharmacokinetics Pharmacokinetics has helped us to understand the absorption, distribution, biotransformation, and excretion of drugs. When a drug is taken into the body, it passes into the bloodstream either directly or through the digestive system. The rate of absorption of a drug in the stomach is variable. Food, for example, can delay the dissolution of some drugs and their passage into the small intestine, where most drug absorption occurs. Once absorbed, a drug must be distributed from its site of absorption to its site of action. This process is called distribution. The chemical and physical properties of a drug largely determine the area of the body to which the drug will be attracted. For instance, drugs that are fat soluble will accumulate in fatty tissue, whereas other drugs may bind with plasma proteins. After the drug has been delivered to the target cells and tissues, it interacts with a cellar component and produces a biologic response. Then a drug undergoes biotransformation, a process by which it is converted to a less active, more easily excretable form. Most biotransformation takes place in the liver, because there are many drug-metabolizing enzymes in the liver cells that detoxify the drugs. After a drug has been metabolized, its metabolic by-products are eliminated by the process of excretion. Most drug metabolites are excreted by the kidneys and become the components of urine.

The free bird leaps on the back of the wind and floats downstream till the current ends and dips his wings in the orange sun rays and dares to claim the sky.
But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage can seldom see through his bars of rage his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings with fearful trill of the things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom
The free bird thinks of another breeze and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn and he names the sky his own.
But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing
The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom.

Robert Waterston of the University of Washington in Seattle and colleagues said their findings, published in the U.S. journal Nature on Wednesday, would shed light on why people get Alzheimer's disease, certain cancers and AIDS, which chimpanzees do not get.
A recent study by the Nobel laureate Paul Crutzen shows that the official estimates have ignored the contribution of nitrogen fertilisers. They generate a greenhouse gas - nitrous oxide - that is 296 times as powerful as CO2. These emissions alone ensure that ethanol from maize causes between 0.9 and 1.5 times as much warming as petrol, while rapeseed oil (the source of more than 80% of the world's biodiesel) generates 1-1.7 times the impact of diesel. This is before you account for the changes in land use.
A paper published in the journal Science three months ago suggests that protecting uncultivated land saves, over 30 years, between two and nine times the carbon emissions you might avoid by ploughing it and planting biofuels. Last year the research group LMC International estimated that if the British and European target of a 5% contribution from biofuels were to be adopted by the rest of the world, the global acreage of cultivated land would expand by 15%. That means the end of most tropical forests. It might also cause runaway climate change.

長文になりますが、和訳よろしくお願いします。 Social entrepreneurs are individuals with innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social problems. They are ambitious and persistent, tackling major social issues and offering new ideas for wide-scale change. Rather than leaving societal needs to the government or business sectors, social entrepreneurs find what is not working and solve the problem by changing the system, spreading the solution, and persuading entire societies to take new leaps. Social entrepreneurs often seem to be possessed by their ideas, committing their lives to changing the direction of their field. They are both visionaries and ultimate realists, concerned with the practical implementation of their vision above all else. Each social entrepreneur presents ideas that are user-friendly, understandable, ethical, and engage widespread support in order to maximize the number of local people that will stand up, seize their idea, and implement with it. In other words, every leading social entrepreneur is a mass recruiter of local changemakers—a role model proving that citizens who channel their passion into action can do almost anything. Over the past two decades, the citizen sector has discovered what the business sector learned long ago: There is nothing as powerful as a new idea in the hands of a first-class entrepreneur.
it is surely not in the nation's interest to have one of its two legistlative bodies dead set against legistlating, which is the absurd reality the three senators are reinforcing.
Japan seems to disprove our lawyerly myths. 日本は私たち弁護士の説を証明していいないようだ With scarcely 16,000 lawyers, but a functioning democracy and a successful economy, it threatens our own lawyerly pride just as it fuels our clients' antilawyer prejudices. たった16,000人の弁護士しかいないのに、民主主義はうまく機能し、経済で成功しいる。このことが私たちの顧客が持っている弁護士に対する偏見を増大させ、私たち弁護士の誇りを脅かすのである。 ''We can do just fine, thank you,'' Japan seems to be saying, without your complement of lawyers. if we could talk about a squat yet (cause squat implies that it's illegal.) People from squat define it as "aftersquat" now. But the bit I read, it's still a place where you could go freely or where artist could come and make exhibitions or create. I heard that to make an exhibition in a gallery it's very expensive. Artists have to pay to show their art. I find it totally absurd. But that's often as the world works, that's a pity.
Our main conclusions can be summarized as follows. (1) The pecking order is an effective first-order descriptor of corporate financing behavior. (2) The simple target adjustment model, when tested independently, also seems to be a good descriptor. (3) When the two models are nested, the coefficient and significance of the pecking order variable change hardly at all; the performance of the target adjustment model's variable degrades. (4) The strong performance of the pecking order does not occur just because firms fund unanticipated cash needs with debt in the short run. Our results indicate that firms plan to fmance anticipated deficits with debt. (5) Our experiments show that the simple target adjustment models are not rejected even when false; the pecking order, when false, can be easily rejected. Overall, the results suggest greater confidence in the pecking order than in the target adjustment model. If companies do have a well-defined optimal capital structure, it seems that managers are not much interested in getting there.
The world is warming up and it is mainly because of the human emissions of greenhouse gases. In April of 2007 more than 100 nations in the U.N. climate panel gave a report on climate change. Rajendra Pachauri, the chairperson of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicted that "It's the poorest of the poor in the world who are going to be the worst hit, and this includes poor people even in the prosperous societies." But who really cares? The IPCC group's 2,500 scientists are the top world authority on climate change. They care about what is happening to our world. They recommended extending the U.N.'s Kyoto Protocol, which is the main UN. plan for capping the emissions of greenhouse gases, beyond 2012. But some countries didn't agree with their suggestion. China,Russia and Saudi Arabia had the most objections. And even the United States, which pulled out of the Kyoto Protocol in 2001, said that cutting the emissions of greenhouse gases would cost too much. This is dangerous because the United States, China and Russia, respectively, are the top three sources of greenhouse gases. Shouldn't these countries be leaders in making our world a better place?
The fleshy polyps are generally emerged during the night while in the day they are retracted into the corallites. The polyps may be separated individually in which case they grow upwards and outwards, depositing limestone as they grow, and at intervals each divides into two or more daughter polyps that continue to grow until they, too, divide.
What can happen if the governments don't take action to save the world from natural destruction? Temperatures can rise by 1.8 to four degrees Celsius this century. Some people may think that if that happens, they will only need to use more ah- conditioning, and then their problem will be solved. But it's more complicated than that. Air conditioning produces the emissions of greenhouse gases. If global temperatures rise two degrees Celsius above the average in the 1980s and 90s, up to 30% of the Earth's species may become extinct. Water shortages can affect billions of people. Ocean levels can continue to rise for centuries. In particular, by 2020, as many as 250 million Afrigans will suffer water shortages and in some countries, food production will be cut in half. North America will experience more severe storms. More hurricanes, floods, droughts, heat waves and wildfires can result. Melting Himalayan glaciers can cause flooding and avalanches in parts of Asia. The Alpine glaciers in Europe will also disappear. Even moderate increases in sea temperature will cause Australia's Barrier Reef to lose much of its coral to bleaching. Many natural systems, on all continents and in some oceans, are being changed. Humankind is not fighting in a science fiction story like "The War of the Worlds". We are fighting among ourselves. Governments should work together in order to help our societies grow in a cleaner and healthier environment―now!

It was for him the springtime of youth, when, as he sings in one of his early poems, "the bright morning star day`s harbinger, comes dancing from the East and leads with her the flowery May, who from her green lap throws the yellow cowslip and the pale primrose." Now, like Chaucer in the Middle Ages, he found himself on a pilgrimage, in the humanist sense of the word: in search not so much of health or holiness as of knowledge and wisdom. すみませんどなたかよろしくお願いします。

July was a bad month for old-fashioned Web browsers. Troublemakers found ways to infiltrate personal computers by breaking in through Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox. As security experts issued dire warnings and the companies scrambled to produce software patches, computer scientists at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign quietly put the finishing touches on what many believe is the only solution to a growing number of online security threats: a radically redesigned Web browser. Samuel King, an assistant professor of computer science who is spearheading the effort, says he and his students plan to release a public version of their new Web browser, Opus Palladianum, or OP, on 1 September. Named after a technique for making mosaics from irregularly shaped material, OP's moniker is a tribute to Mosaic, the original Web browser, also developed on the Urbana-Champaign campus. The development of OP is part of a movement to dramatically improve the security of the Web by making browsers that behave more like operating systems. Microsoft and Google are working along the same lines. "From a security perspective, browsers are completely broken," King says. The problem with traditional browsers is that the way people use the Web has changed. Instead of just looking up information on static pages coded with HTML, or HyperText Markup Language, people are using the browser to run Web versions of applications that used to reside on a PC, such as e-mail, social networking, and online banking. "I don't think my mother uses anything besides her Web browser," King says.
But browsers weren't built to manage access to applications and sensitive data. And their vulnerability to digital attacks is increasingly attracting everyone from run-of-the-mill mischief makers to sophisticated criminal organizations. Researchers at Sophos, a security company based in Abingdon, England, near Oxford, say they are discovering sabotaged sites every 3.6 seconds, quadruple last year's rate. King and two of his students began working on OP two years ago with the idea that if they divided a browser into separate subsystems? for instance, the user interface, storage, and networking?they could make it more secure. Communication between the different parts of the program is kept simple and explicit, much as processes are managed in an operating system. Because the pieces of the browser are carefully kept apart, it becomes much more difficult for bad guys to install software that steals passwords and credit card numbers or sends out spam. It's as if a burglar broke into your home and couldn't get past the front entryway, King says. Meanwhile, computer scientists at Google and Microsoft are adopting similar ideas. "We were very much aware of the limitations of the [traditional] browser," says Brian Rakowski, a Google product manager. Like King and his students, Google engineers concluded that they could get greater security and more reliable performance by separating the browser's functions into different processes. They released the Chrome browser in September 2008 as an open-source project for review.
he company is also working on a new, stripped-down operating system, the Chrome OS, designed to support Web browsing. King says Chrome gave him some significant ideas for how to improve OP, and he also borrowed some ideas for displaying content in the browser from Microsoft's Gazelle project, which like OP and Chrome seeks to build a next-generation browser. The inspiration flowed both ways. King consulted on the Gazelle project and also received some funding from Microsoft Research's Internet Services Research Center. 長文で申し訳ありませんがお願いします。

ちなみにこういう文章です。 An unknown filmmaker from Uruguay has been given $30m by Hollywood studio bosses - to turn his $500 YouTube video of a giant robot invasion into a movie
Would-be director Federico Alvarez, who runs a post-production visual effects house in Uruguay, filmed 'Panic Attack' with a budget of just $500 in his free time.
The five minute clip - which he then uploaded to YouTube - shows an invasion of Montevideo by giant robots and had special effects which could rival many big budget movies.
Once online it got the attention of thousands of movie fans… and (not surprisingly) studio bosses who wanted to meet with Alvarez to talk about his movie.
@The words "a list world"are often heard in Japan these days. ABefore coming here in September 2004,I had mistaken images of Japan from the 1980s. BJapan had still been considered in the West as unique;it had its lifetime employment, its company songs, its many festivals and only a small amount of crime. CThey said that Japan was still traditional with a few useful aspects of foreign culutures. DI have found, instead, that Japan is a successful and modern Western country with some interesting characteristics. EOne big surprise was that Japan tends to accept other cultures easily. FIn the 60s,non-Asian foreigners often found Japanese people watching them out of curiosity. GThis is quite different from how I now feel about Japan. HSoon afeter moving to Tokyo,I experienced something I did not expect:Halloween. IIt comes from ancient European culture, yet many Japanese now enjoy it. JI realized that the Japanese people were open enough to welcome foreign people and their customs.

長文なんですが、和訳をお願いできますでしょうか。 補助程度の訳でも構わないので、どうぞよろしくお願いします。 The Vikings were not altogether the pagan savages that those writing the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle would have us believe. They were a people from Scandinavia, mainly Norway, Sweden and Denmark, whose life was working the land and fishing but who went on to attack and later settle in Britain, Northen France, Russia, Iceland and Greenland. They are even believed to have reched America. One of the key reasons for their restless voyaging was that their homelands no longer produced enough to support them. Another was the nature of their society which was one which glorified fighting. The Vikings were pagan, and believed that the gods rewarded fighters above all and that bloodshed and death in battle were the true paths to wealth and happiness. As a people they were endowed with a stupendous energy which made them fearless seafarers serching for trade and plunder across vast oceans. Each year bands of Vikings put out to sea, seeking out richer lands than their own to pillage, bringing home gold, silver and jewels. Their leaders were either kings or 'jarls' whose key role was to see that their followers were handsomely rewarded with booty.
And this indeed was what drew them to the British Isles wiping out as they went curches and monasteries, town and villages, carrying from them any kind of valuable from a sacred vessel to a horse. Gradually, as they burnt and sacked the country, there was nothing left for them to take except the land. Their leaders began to divided that up among their men, whothen settled. In the main it was Norwegians in Scotland, Ireland and the Western Isles, while in England it was the Danes. At first they put in puppet Anglo-Saxon kings but gradually they began to replace these with kings of their own. We can easily trace where the Danes settled. areas of the country known as the Danelaw, by the endings to the place names. Whereas the Anglo-Saxon endings were 'hams' and 'tuns', that is 'homes' and 'towns', the Danes had their 'bys' and ' thorpes'.
The Danes had already made ferocious attack on Wessex by the time Alfred succeeded his brother but in 878 they launched what they believed to be their final assault, which, if successful, would have meant that virtually the whole island would be in their hands. To achieve this they planned a surprise attack in winter when no one usually fought. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle takes up the story:
'・・・they [Danish host] went secretly in midwinter after Twelfth Night to Chippenham, and rode over Wessex and occupid it, and drove a great part of the inhabitants oversea, and reduced the greater part of the rest. except Alfred the king; and he with a small company moved under difficulties through woods and into inaccessible places in the marshes.'
This was on what was the Isle of Athelney nea Taunton in Somerset. Protected by the swamps and floods which surrounded it, the king was able to plot his campaign. Messengers were sent out summoning the 'fyrd' or mikitia from Somerset, Wiltshire and West Hampshire, men who were all 'fain of him'. On the appointed day they met and defeated the Danes under their king, Guthrum, at Edington, going on after to lay siege to their fortress at Chippenham which they took. For the first time the Danish king sued for peace, swearing to depart from Wessex, and Guthrum and twenty-nine of his followers were baptised. This was the first turning of the tide.

Over the centuries the number of drugs available has increased greatly, and knowledge about these drugs has become more accurate and detailed. Health care professionals not only need to understand how medications affect our body but also are unfavorable reactions.
Pharmacodynamics Pharmacodynamics deals with the biochemical and physiologic effects of a drug on a body. A drug can have an effect on us when it creates biochemical and physiologic changes such as inhibiting or stimulating a certain body process. A number of factors influence the actions of a drug upon the body. Age, for example, is a factor in that very young and elderly people often are highly responsive to drugs and thus require lower doses. Sex-linked differences in the way men and women respond to drugs are chiefly due to two factors: differences in the distribution of fat and water, and hormonal differences. Because women usually weigh less than men, equal dosages are likely to affect women more than men. Women usually have more fatty pads than men, and men have more body fluid than women. Some drugs may be more soluble in fat, whereas others are more soluble in water. Thus, men absorb some drugs more readily than women, and vice versa. All medications are designed to produce therapeutic effects. However, practically all medications have additional effects, which are called side effects. Many of them are minor and harmless, but some are undesirable and potentially harmful. Adverse effects, tolerance, hypersensitivity reactions, allergic reactions, or drug or food interactions.
Safe medication administration When administering any drug, careful assessment of a patient’s physical conditions and knowledge of his/her medication history are necessary. For safe and accurate drug administration, health care professionals must pay close attention to the following “five rights”: the right drug, the right dose, the right time, the right route, and the right patient.

Nevertheless, fine as the choral setting is the original bersion is best of all, its rather sombre orchestral colouring suiting the vein of melancholy in the tune itself, first cousin of the march-motto of the First Symphony. If none of the other marches can boast such a splendid melody-though the trio of No.4 runs it close-each has specially attractibe features. The freatest of them is No.2 in A minor, spiritually akin to Schubert marche militaire and with an enigmatic tension in every bar. No.3 is also in a minor key, C; opening mysteriously, it turns jovial, and contains a trio in Elgar's lightest theatre-music style.No.4 in G is in some respects the most ceremonial of the set, full-dress in ebery way.No.5 in C was first performed on 20 September 1930 in Queen's Hall under Sir Henry Wood; the opening theme had occurred to Elgar the previous year while he was out on a country drive. This march, too, evokes the delicate scoring of the lighter music, but the grand manner is there also, the colour, the rhythm, and the humor.

What is it that turns ordinary, law-abiding people into killers when they drive? There are many factors, but excessive speed, everybody will agree, is the major cause of traffic accidents. This is obviously true, considering that the greater the speed, the worse the injuries caused. People who drive too fast usually do so because they are in a hurry. Whether or not their haste is necessary, it can never serve as an excuse for careless driving. They are no less blamable than those who drive fast for thrills or those who drive after drinking alcohol.
Nevertheless, fine as the choral setting is, the original version is best of all, its rather sombre orchestral colouring suiting the vein of melancholy in the tune itself, first cousin of the march-motto of the First Symphony. If none of the other marches can boast such a splendid melody-though the trio of No.4 runs it close-each has specially attractive features. The greatest of them is No.2 in A minor, spiritually akin to a Schubert (marche militaire) and with an enigmatic tension in every bar.No.3 is also in a minor key, C; opening mysteriously, it turns jovial, and contains a trio in Elgar's lightest theatre-music style.No.4 in G is in some respects the most ceremonial of the set, full-dress in every way.No.5 in C was first performed in 20 September 1930 in Queen's Hall under Sir Henry Wood; the opening theme had occurred to Elgar the previous year while he was out on a country drive. This march, too, evokes the delicate scoring of the lighter music, but the grand manner is there also, the colour, the rhythm, and the humour.

Hi Dennis--I know Japan is quite strict when importing Flours or labeled botanicals--- how would you like the product shipped so it is not so noticable- I quite often send 1 gram per legal sized envelope neatly folded--is this something you would like?- If so the shipping charges may be slightly higher for sending two envelopes---Tom--
The crucial difference between this and the static tradeoff story is that, in the modified pecking order story, observed debt ratios will reflect the cumulative requirement for external financing--a requirement cumulated over an extended period. For example, think of an unusually profitable firm in an industry generating relatively slow growth. That firm will end up with an unusually low debt ratio compared to its industry's average, and it won't do much of anything about it. It won't go out of its way to issue debt and retire equity to achieve a more normal debt ratio.
The Arbiter now takes 25% more damage while raging. This should be properly stated as "The Arbiter receives 25% more damage from attacks while raging." The reason? 'Cause I wrongly interpreted this as meaning that he can take more damage than he already can;
The watch is new. Box: Yes. Warranty: Yes. Stock remainder (by stock remainder we mean an item that could have some small signs because of the stock and/or no more on the market).
A number of people are linking to this reprinted critique of the work of the late Paul Samuelson. I could point out that the critique thoroughly misunderstands what Samuelson was saying about international trade, factor prices, and all that. But there is, I think, an interesting point to be made if we start from this complaint:
Can it be “scientific” to promulgate theories that do not describe economic reality as it unfolds in its historical context, and which lead to economic imbalance when applied?
So Samuelson-type economics didn’t win because of its power to cloud men’s minds. It won because in the greatest economic crisis in history, it had something useful to say.

Oratio probably means "Orasho" ancient prayers of Hiding Christians in Japan. Origin of this word is "Oratorio" in Latin,of course. It has been passed down through centuries by word of mouth. Transmitted orally and in secret, many words of Orasho has lost their meanings now. Sorry for my bad english.
If I come has Tokyo it is because I have a friend who lives low!! He my said that there was castle has to see!! I shall like seeing that himeji also!! I think that I shall visit Japan to see natural landscapes! But indeed on the city also I have to see her! she is a part of the life!!

I think this is a Latin word "oratio." I'm almost sure the author (composer?) was inspired by a Japanese word "ORASHO" when he/she made "Oratio." The word ORASHO means prayers that have been handed down by Hiding Christians in Japan for centuries during most of which Christiarinity was banned by the government. Passed down by oral tradition for generations isolated from the Roman church authority, the sound (the text) has been transitioned from its original Latin prayers. The name "ORASHO" itself is also said to be a transitioned form of the Latin word "oratio," which I believe to be the origin of the title.

But how could work and create an artist if he's continuously observed and disturbed while he's working? When you create you have to be in a certain privacy... They said that City Hall and politics in general had a funny idea about artist and art. In politics minds, artists seem to be just commercial and things that we show. I feel that's diffiuclt to explain with my words...
But it's a bit difficult to explain properly the concept. It's when everything is given to see, is given as a show. People wants to see everything, and people wants entertainment. Nowadays society brings us that. Even if it's not made for being shown. And one of the main goal for this kind of society (or politic) is money, and, to my mind, mass control.
Doesn’t Economics 101 say that the wage cut has to work? No. It says that a fall in real wages increases employment — but the whole point is that reducing all money wages doesn’t necessarily reduce real wages. And for what it’s worth, the little AS-AD analysis I linked to is Econ 101, at least if you use a good textbook.
「ロジャーマルビンの埋葬」という小説なのですがどうか和訳お願い致します。 The sunshine yet lingered upon the higher branches of the trees that grew on rising ground;but the shadows of evening had deepened into the hollow where the encampment was mad, and the firelight began to redden as it gleamed up the tall trunks of the pines or hovered on the dense and obscure mass of foliage that circled round the spot. The heart of Dorcas was not sad;for she felt that it was better to tourney in the wildness with two whom she loved than to be a lonely woman in a crowd that cared not for her. As she busied herself in arranging seats of mouldering wood covered with leaves, for Reuben and her son,her voice danced through the gloomy forest in the measure of a song that she had learned in youth. The rude melody, the production of a bard who won no name, was descriptive of a winter evening in a frontier cottage, when, secured from savage inroad by the high-piled snow-drifts,the family rejoiced by their own fireside.
Actually, during the runup to the creation of the euro there was a very interesting academic literature comparing and contrasting the North American Monetary Union, also known as the United States, and the potential eurozone. Here’s one example.
It is important to know the mechanical properties map as a function of temperature and moisture parameters, because it is sensitive to these ambient parameters even after the characteristic time of the weight change in the dehydration process, and because the moisture absorbed might play a role of plasticizer, causing the shift of the loss tangent peak.
In the paper, the visco-elastic behavior was examined under the moisture and temperature controlled condition for the gel samples whose water content is in the region of those after t'.
The result is that, under constant temperaturecondition, the elastic modulus is gradually and then drastically decreases as the moisture increases and that the peak of loss tangent appeared around the moisture region of drastically decreasing modulus.
This behaior is seemed to be ascribable to the primary direction.
The softening vapor pressure and peak vapor pressure of less tangent become higher as the temperature increases, which is elucidated by the hydrophilic nature of the network molecules at high temperatures.
And there it is known not as “Milton’s house” , for it is too small, but as “Milton’s cottage”.
It is as if in the end he chose for himself the life not of “2 Penseroso” but of “L’ Allegro”, as in his varied activity he was led from the poetry of Paradise Lost bake to the ideal peace of the English countryside.
We often think of him not without reason, as a stern Puritan poet insisting on his religious duty, or as a rigid humanist composing difficult poems for a “fit audience though but few”.
But here at least we see another side to his poetic character: his delight in the rural beauty of England, which makes him a fitting successor to Chaucer and Shakespeare.
To this delight he has given poetic _expression not in spite of his academic learning but because of it.
For it was, we may say, his studies at Cambridge which enabled him to sing of what he had seen and enjoyed from boyhood
Life expectancy has increased dramatically over the centuries. An Englishman born in 1600 could have expected to live no longer―on average―tan is late thirties. Nowadays he should, all things beings equal, make it into his early seventies. Similarly an Irishman born in the 1870s might have lived to be about 50 years old. He should now survive to about 70. Paradoxically, when in previous times there were fewer people around there were more babies born. Now that there were more people, birth-rates are falling―indeed, in the United Kingdom there will be more deaths than births within about 40 years' time if current trends continue.
It’s petty and silly, but after what seems like a whole adult lifetime in which Central Casting insisted that major politicians be either Southern gentlemen or Midwestern heartland types, it felt good to watch and listen to Chuck Schumer, speaking the language of my roots, at the victory press conference — even with that green tie. Noo Yawk Roolz!
