That is when things make a deep hollow sound-or go boom! Traffic injuries are the leading cause of death in people aged 10 to 24 around the world. Who says so? These were the findings in a report by the World Health Organization(WHO)in 2007. Traffic accidents are a big public health issue for kids. Webster's American English Dictionary says that an accident is an event occurring by chance or unintentionally. But Margaret Chan, who is WHO's new director general, says that road traffic crashes are not "accidents". She believes that they are avoidable. About 30 percent of all traffic deaths worldwide are of people younger than 25. That is nearly 400,000 each year. And it is the teenage and young-adult drivers who are at the greatest risk. What can be done to stop this from happening?
The authenticity issue, expressed as "music being done right," has arisen in my conversations with Japanese consumers of classical music as well.Reading in a popular source of information about Japan that the two most frequently performed pieces of European music were Beethoven's Symphony No,9 and Vivaldi's Four Seasons, I went searching in Tokyo stores for recordings of them:of fifty-four choices for the Beethoven,I found only two recordings by Japanese orchestras.Whereas I found only three CDs of the Vivaldi performed by Japanese musicians, I read in the same source that the rendition by the European orchestra I Musici had by 1996 sold 2.8 million copies in Japan."Why would this be?"I have asked."If it's going to be done right,it should be done by European musicians. Japanese like imported things,"has come the response. There are probably more Japanese recordings of those two pieces than I found. However, the number of touring European orchestras, chamber music groups, opera companies, and soloists on Japanese concert programs is simply amazing, given the huge investment in specialized musical training and high level of accomplishment by Japanese musicians who specialize in those repertoires themselves. My annual visits to stores selling recordings show no change:those by Japanese artists must be searched for on the shelves,no matter what the international genre. The music is in the hearts of Japanese music lovers, but domestic professional performance of it appears to be accorded only second rank to that of foreigners.

A robotic baby seal, which scored a striking hit among elderly people, has a little different function.
Just lying around all day, it opens its cute eyes if it is patted, and begins to wave its flippers.
In fact, it was found to be as real animals at making people happier, helping them manage stress and increasing the amount of time people talked with friends and caretakers.
This type of robot is expected to play an important role in the future by helping sick people feel better and reducing medical costs.

Even while the high levels of concentration between members of the Triad were developing in the 1980s, this did not prevent them from falling into recession. Indeed the post-1973 period more generally has been one of continued economic difficulties for many of the advanced countries of the Triad. One of the reasons for this could be the relative growth of cross-border merger and acquisition expenditure at the expense of ‘new establishment’ investment in the 1980s. M&A activity has expended dramatically in the Triad countries (see below).
The supervisors of door-to-door salespeople face a double dose of difficulty that surpasses that of the ordinary principal.First, they face the ordinary problem of motivating their sales staff to interact persuasively with customers. But unlike a salesperson selling shoes or cosmetics in the confines of a physical retail space, they face a colossal monitoring problem due to the ambulatory nature of their sales staff. In practice, the supervisor simply can’t monitor the salespeople at all. As a result,door-to-door salespeople labor under contracts that often pay no fixed wage whatsoever, with their income entirely consisting of a share of their gross sales. 和訳よろしくお願いします。
Tropical rainforests are very important for the environment. They absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide which would otherwise contribute to global warming, and provide a home for numerous species of animals, birds, fish, insects and plants which can survive nowhere else. However, they are being destroyed by loggers, farmers and mining companies, and through the construction of roads and dams. In the 1990s, deforestation occured at an annual rate of 9.8million hectares per year, mainly in Central and South America, South East Asia and West Africa.
The Amazon region contains a third of the world's rainforests, and has seen some of the worst destruction. When this began on a large scale in Brazil in the 1960s, conservationists raised the alarm, but they were opposed by powerful forces: a government eager to develop ‘unproductive’land, multinational corporations seeking cheap lumber, beef and cattle feed, and ruthless local businesses determined to make money at any cost to the environment and to indigenous communities living in the rainforests.
The National Rubber Tappers Council, formed in 1985, campaigned for regulations to protect the rainforest on which their members' livelihood depended. When their leader, Chico Mendes, was assassinated in 1988 by the son of a cattle rancher, Brazil came under international pressure to take strict measures to protect its remaining rainforests.
Around the same time, the international campaign to protect rainforests adopted more confrontational tactics, asking consumers to boycott the products of corporations involved in destroying rainforests. McDonalds and Burger King reluctantly ended their links with Central American cattle ranches that had been created by clearing rainforests; and Mitsubishi ended its logging operations in South East Asia. Less well-known companies soon replaced them, however, and the destruction continues to this day.
In addittion to consumer boycotts, various other approaches have been tried. One of these is the debt-for-nature exchange, in which a non-governmental organization pays off a part of a poor country's international debt and in exchange receives the right to manage a threatened ecosystem. Since the first such exchange took place in Bolivia in 1987, the system has spread to many other countries.
Another approach involves the identification and promotion of sustainable forest management. The FSC, established in 1993, certifies products obtained from sustainably managed forests. The FSC logo is popular among companies eager for commercial or ethical reasons to show their green credentials. The Council has helped raise consumer awareness about the importance of protecting tropical forests, although some critics have suggested that in order to meet the growing demand for sustainably produced wood, FSC standards have been lowered.

Henry Poole is well known for the first and the oldest tailor in Savile Row. When I thought I would have a suit made to measure in Savile Row, one of my friends who is an expert of custom suits and a member of a Gentlemen's club in London recommended me to choose Henry Poole. Then, I contacted to Mr. George Glasgow in G.J.Cleverley and asked him to introduce me to Henry Poole. This is the third order in Henry Poole and it is the new three-piece suit in 2-button. The material is gray striped super120's wool by Edwin Woodhouse in Huddersfield. Through two fittings, the suit was delivered this March. To tell the truth, I ordered typical three button style but result was different. However, I've got tired of the same 3-button jackets so I immediately accepted 2-button style. Henry poole's fitting is a bit different from the same British tailor as Fallan & Harvey. Poole 's jacket strikes wearers as grasping both shoulders from back but Fallan & Harvey's jacket makes an impression on stepping on the shoulders. I like both but I've understood that every tailor has their own way for fitting. Next time, I will order a Jacket & trousers.
To some western robotics researchers, Japan's big push for humanoid robots is hard to understand, because in western culture, robots are viewed as slaves that may challenge and try to control their human masters.
Karel Capek used the Czech word "robotnik" (meaning a working slave) to describe a robot for the first time.
The robots in his popular play were artificial humans who were made to work by factory owners until they rose up against humans.

The allocated sums are distributed among the interested Member States(MS), which will then prioritize how to spend that money. For example, a MS could decide to accept all applications giving each only half of the original sum or the MS could establish priorities, such as old farmers or small farmers, etc. In order to avoid abandonments, specific areas can be exempted for environmental reasons from the grubbing-up scheme. The Commission is currently waiting for MS inputs before notifying what applications they have accepted.

One of the most common examples of the principal-agent problem occurs between a principal who wants something sold but needs someone else to do the selling. 主代理店問題の共通の例の1つは、販売される何かがほしいと思うが、他の人に販売をすることを必要とする本人の間に起こります。
Whether one is selling shoes, cosmetics, advertising space,or vacuum cleaners,it is easy to be passive about selling someone else's product. 人が、靴、化粧品、広告スペース、または電気掃除機を売っているかどうかにかかわらず、売却する誰かの製品について受身であることが容易なのです。

The changing population structure and the shift to the nuclear family living in an impersonal urban setting no doubt are factors in the change. Older persons do still command respect, in language and in actions. But the very special role of older people is lessened - witness the enforcement of an age limit for parliamentarians by the current prime minister, despite great protest from a distinguished predecessor of advanced years who was summarily displaced, the Koizumi-Nakasone confrontation

In some sense this idea is encapsulated in the cliché that “hindsight is always 20/20,” but people often behave as if the adage weren’t true. In government, for example, a “should-have-known-it” blame game is played after every tragedy. In the case of Pearl Harbor, for example, seven committees of the United States Congress delved into discovering why the American military had missed all the “signs” of a coming attack. One of the pieces of evidence cited as a harbinger recklessly ignored by the U.S. Navy was a request, intercepted and sent to the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington, that a Japanese agent in Honolulu divide Pearl Harbor into five areas and make future reports on ships in harbor with reference to those areas. Of special interest were battleships, destroyers and carriers, as well as information regarding the anchoring of more than one ship at a single dock. In hindsight , that sounds ominous, but at other times similar requests had gone to Japanese agents in Panama, Vancouver, Portland and San Francisco.

As already said, superconductivity was discovered in 1911 by Kamerlingh Onnes in Leiden (Karmerlingh Onnes, 1911).
The basic observation was the disappearance of electrical resistance of various metals (mercury, lead and thin) in a very small range of temperatures around a critical temperature T characteristic of the material (see Fig. 1).
This is particularly clear in experiments with persistent currents in superconducting rings.
These currents have been observed to flow without measurable decreasing up to one year allowing to put a lower bound of 10^5 years on their decay time.
Notice also that good conductors have resistivity at a temperature of several degrees K, of the order of 10^(-6) ohm cm, whereas the resistivity of a superconductor is lower that 10^(-23) ohm cm.
Critical temperatures for typical superconductors range from 4.15 K for mercury, to 3.69 K for tin, and to 7.26 K and 9.2 K for lead and niobium respectively.
In 1933 Meissner and Ochsenfeld (Meissner and Ochsenfeld, 1933) discovered the perfect diamagnetism, that is the magnetic field B penetrates only a depth λ=500 A and is excluded from the body of the material.

A typical salesperson receives a relatively low fixed wage and a commission on each sale that is a percentage of the item’s final selling price. Usually the more difficult it is to monitor the salesperson, the greater the percentage of the salesperson's income is composed of commission. When monitoring by the principal is easier, the fixed-Wage component may be higher, while still providing some incentive for an enthusiastic sales effort.
1 In 1906,Alfred C.Fuller founded a legendary door-to-door sales enterprise, the Fuller Brush Company. 2 Fuller began the company, renowned for its distinctive collection of home and personal care products,by establishing three basic rules for his products: make it work;make it last;and guarantee it“no matter what.” 3 His company took off quickly. 4 Fuller became something of a folk hero, and the traveling Fuller Brush Man became an American folk icon. 5 Early Walt Disney cartoons cast Donald Duck in the role of a Fuller Brush Man. 6 In Disney's rendition of the Three Little Pigs, the Big Bad Wolf appeared at the little pigs' front door disguised as a Fuller Brush Man before he huffed and puffed and tried to blow their houses down.

Thus what is needed are new measures of internationalization that capture more of what is going on on the asset side of companies’ balance sheets, or which look directly at productive activity accounted for by foreign affiliates as registered in a country’s national accounts. But here there are major problems of access to relevant and appropriate information.

To the extent that any individuals can be considered responsible in themselves for particular developments, the foundation of hydrodynamics is attributable to four contemporary mathematicians of the 18th century. Significantly enough, two were products of the Bernoulli school at Basel. One, in fact, was a Bernoulli-Daniel; another was his close friend, Leonhard Euler; the third and fourth were Clairaut and d'Alembert of France. Together they displayed a fortunate combination of ability and timeliness, for each was gifted in a different way, and all lived in period when interest in physical science was high, new analytical tools were available, and the field was completely open.

Patricia doesn't only but antiques at garage sales. "Here's a set of Yu-Gi-Oh trading cards for my nine-year-old nephew. In a store, this set costs $12. At the garage sale, it was $1. That's cheap!"

In any scrutiny of company accounts, for instance, it is important to recognize what companies are doing on their ‘home’ territory at the same time as they are investing and operating abroad. FDI flows only capture what companies are ‘lending’ to their affiliates abroad, not what they are at the same investing in their home country or territory. Even where there is some assessment of MNCs according to the extent of their foreign-owned assets, the companies included are usually those already classified by the extent of their foreign-owned assets, thereby prematurely skewing the analysis in favour of the overseas orientation of company activity. (e.g. United Nations 1997, table 1.7 pp.29-31)
Daniel Bernoulli was born at Groningen near the middle of his father Johann's ten year Dutch professorship. He studied under his father at Basel after the latter returned to fill the chair left vacant by Jakob's death. In his early twenties Daniel spent seven or eight years as professor of mathematicsat St. Petersburg, a period darkened only by the early death there of his older brother Nikolaus, also a mathematician. Daniel won or shared, in the course of his life, ten prizes awarded by the Paris Academie des Sciences for the solution of designated problems. The first of these, received at the age of twenty-four, involved the design of a clepsydra for the exact measurement of time at sea. The third, for a paper on tides, was shared with Euler and the Scottish mathematician Colin Maclaurin.
Thus,we should observe share contracts when monitoring is difficult for the principal and when agents are risk-averse and susceptible to idiosyncratic shocks to their incomes-events that affect their productivity but are out of their control, like moody customers.
Since agents are rewarded based only on their own sales, they have no incentive to internalize the negative consequences of their“nonsales”behavior. Thus, a strict share contract can create a divergence between the interest of the agents and the principal. We will see that this phenomenon exhibits some parallels with the behavior of peasant farmers who are given high-powered,short-term productivity incentives but lack the long-term incentives to promote sustainable land use. When would we expect to see principals use share contracts? Share contracts provide stronger incentives for agents than fixed-wage contracts, though,as we will see later in this chapter, they lack the strength of incentives embodied in a fixed-rent contract. Share contracts also distribute risk between the agent and the principal and in this way are more attractive to a risk-averse agent than a fixed rent contract.

you can take cooking test only after passing the written and oral tests? that's right. in the cooking test, not only the taste but the speed and the way of cooking are important as well. how many times have you taken the examination? you can take it only once in your life. every year, more than 100 people try.there have been only about 350 meister in the world since the 1970s. I'm the first person from outside of europe to pass.
お願いします what was difficult about the examination? not only the cooking but the language was difficult.everything was un german. were you good at foreign languages when you werre a student? I'm afraid I wasn't. when I came to Austria, I only knew a few german words. before I took the exam at the age of twenty-nine, I had seven year's experience as a cook in Austria. that work experience taught me how to speak german. I'd say that I acquired the language rather than learned it. I did'nt have enough time to use dictionary. I learned new words as I came across them. there are some german words that I don't know how to put into japanese. did you have any other problems? since I only had one chance, there was a lot of pressure. but I only thought about passing the test. I never thought about failing
和訳お願いします。Have you ever heard about cell/mobile phone dependency? In Japan it is called "ketai izonsho". So many people are now using cell phones in their daily lives that a test has been made to check whether they have become addicted to using their phone. It seems that if you answer "yes" four times or more to the following questions, you are probably one of them: 1.You check your mobile phone first thing in the morning. 2.You get anxious when you leave your phone at home. 3.You check for text messages and missed calls even though the phone hasn't rung. 4.You take your phone to the toilet. 5.When you sit down, the first thing you do is to put your phone on the table or desk. 6.If you don't get a reply for a text message you have sent within an hour, you get worried or angry. 7.You avoid going underground or using the subway because your phone might not receive calls or messages there. 8.You check what time it is by looking at your phone. 9.You feel depressed if you don't receive calls or text messages.
>>208 の続きです、どうか宜しくお願いします。 10.You put at least one pictorial symbol in every two lines of a text message. (How did you do on the test? Have you become a mobile phone addict?) Did you hear about the news service called "Face Check"(Kaochecki)? It is intended to tell you what celebrities you look like. Just take a picture of yourself with your cell phone camera and then mail it to [email protected] for guys or [email protected] for the ladies. The company then scans your face and dispatches back to you three celebrities that you may resemble. Already,15 million users have used this service. A cell phone is not always a good thing. The use of a cell phone can get a person in trouble. In June of 2007, A 34-year-old man was arrested. He violated a law which prohibits the use of cell phones aboard planes.
The arrest was made because the man took a threatening attitude by telling cabin attendants to "shup up" when they warned him against using the phone.
With this preliminary warning, we may move on to the business of this chapter, which is to discuss drama as literature: those effects of a play, and these are fundamentally the most important, which we can appreciate by reading.
A certain girl was given by her parents to a young man in marriage. She did not care for the youth, so she refused and said she would choose a man for herself. Shortly after there came into the village a fine young man of great strength and beauty. The girl fell in love with him at first sight and told her parents that she had found the man she wished to marry, and as the man was not unwilling, the marriage soon took place. Now it happened that the young man was not a man at all, but a hyena, for though as a rule women turn into hyenas and men into hawks, the hyena can change itself into man or woman as it pleases.
During the first night the two newly married ones were sleeping together, the husband said: “Supposing when we go to my town we chance to quarrel on my road, what would you do?” The wife answered that she would change herself into a tree. The man said he would be able to catch her even then. She said that if this were the case she would change into a pool of water. “Oh, that should not trouble me,” said the young man, “I should catch you even then.”
“Why, then I should turn into a stone” replied his spouse. “Still I would catch you,” remarked the man.
Just at that moment the girl’s mother shouted from her room, for she had hear the conversation: “Keep quiet, my daughter, for it is thus that a woman tells all her secrets to her man.” So the girl said no more.
Next morning, when the day was breaking, the husband told his wife to rise up as he was returning to his home. He bade her make ready to accompany him a short way down the road to see him off. She did as he told her, and as soon as the couple were out of the village, the husband turned into a hyena and tried to catch the girl. She turned into a tree, then into a pool of water, then into a stone, but the hyena almost tore the tree down, nearly drank all the water, and half swallowed the stone.
Then the girl transformed herself into that thing which the night before her mother had managed to stop her from betraying. The hyena looked and looked everywhere, and at last, fearing the villagers would come and kill him, made off.
At once the girl turned into her proper form and ran back to the village.
Many “salarymen” as white collar workers are called in Japan, spend sedentary lives, working long hours, eating meals at their desks and jumping into stalls that serve meat over rice and other starchy dishes that typically are gulped down ― a sure way to add on pounds.
Freud pointed to two fundmental instincts in human beings:the erotic, or love, instinct and its opposite, the destructive instinct. But the only hope he could hold for the erotic triumphing over the destructive was in the cultual development of the human race, including a strengthening of the intellect, which tends to master our instinctive life. Einstein had a different view of the value of intelligence in mastering the instincts. After pointing to the psychoses of hate and destructiveness, Einstein concluded, Experience proves that it is rather the socalled Intelligentsia that is most apt to yield to these disastrous collective suggestions.
One immediate challenge in studying the effects of group behavior on technology adoption is that the academic literature uses a multiplicity of terms to describe very similar phenomena. Social learning, neighborhood effects, peer effects, imitative behavior, herd behavior, and information cascades are terms with relatively fine shades of meaning(if any)that separate their precise definitions. I will attempt to provide slightly tighter definitions to some of these terms. Social learning is perhaps the general term most widely used by social scientists for copycat behavior, although imitative behavior is equally general. (“Social learning,”however, tends to refer to process, while“imitative behavior”refers to a result.) “Neighborhood effects" conveys a similar meaning, but most often refers to imitative behavior occurring within a geographical space,or neighborhood. But it also often refers to the influence of environmental factors on behavior as well as the tendency of behavior to replicate itself. Peer effects more commonly refers to the behavioral influence of similar persons as opposed to persons residing in a similar space. Herd behavior is the frequent result of all of the above phenomena,Which can result from an“information cascade,”the(at least partial)forsaking of one's private judgment about the usefulness of a behavior or technology in favor of a decision based on the actions of others.
At approximately the same time, he was associated with Diderot as coeditor of the "Encyclopedie ou Dictionnaire Raisonne des Sciences, des Arts et des Metiers," a stupendous review(17 volumes, plus another 18 of tables, supplements, and illustrations) of man's knowledge as seen from the enlightened French eye of the middle I8th century.
>>240 ほぼ同じ時期に、彼は"百科全書 Encyclopedie ou Dictionnaire Raisonne des Sciences, des Arts et des Metiers,"の共同編集者としてのディドロと親交を持っていた。 百科全書は18世紀なかばの啓蒙的フランス人の目から見た人類の知識の巨大な (17巻に加え目次、補遺、図表からなる別の18巻)展望である。
So what motivates people to copy one another? In truth, there are many reasons Why one person might want to do what someone else is doing. These reasons, however, can be broken down into broad classifications. Peyton Young of Johns Hopkins University(2001)classifies motives for imitative behavior into three broad categories:(1)pure conformity,(2)instrumental conformity, and(3)informational conformity. Pure conformity occurs when individuals adopt a particular behavior simply because they desire to be like other people. No one wants to be the first at the pool to wear a skimpy bathing suit, but if others are doing so,one may not want to feel left out(though other factors may play an important role in this decision). Instrumental conformity occurs when conforming, coordinated behavior fosters mutually beneficial and tangible gains to all who conform. For example, international academic conferences are virtually always carried out in English,Which prevents Tower of Babel-like chaos from erupting at such meetings. Informational conformity occurs through a learning process when individuals face uncertainty about the rewards of new choices. Movie viewing is a prime example. People often wait for others to see a movie and then based on the response of early viewers, the herd follows. Let's examine Young's categories in turn and explore what impacts each might have on the adoption of behaviors and technologies. 難しいですが、よろしくお願いします。
1★Within minutes, Obama was back in the air -- he had already been in Egypt on Thursday, then in Dresden on Friday morning. On Friday evening, he visited a US military base and hospital in the western German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Obama's life as president, it seems, is an endless stream of appointments.

IN 1968,SOCILAL psychologist Philip Zimbardo conducted a novel experiment. With the assistance of his graduate students from New York University, he bought a used 1959 Oldsmobile and left it on the street in the Bronx, hood up and license plates removed. The same experiment was repeated near the Stanford University campus in Palo Alto,California. From a hidden position behind a nearby apartment window, Zimbardo and his students continuously monitored the abandoned car in the Bronx. What they observed over the next sixty-four hours astounded them. Within ten minutes, the Oldsmobile encountered its first, and rather unlikely, group of assailants: a family of three-father, mother, and 8-year-old son. While the mother acted as a look out, the 8-year-old helped his father remove the battery and the radiator. Shortly after, a steady procession of passers by proceeded to remove the air cleaner, radio antenna, windshield wipers, chrome strips, hubcaps, and other sundry parts and accessories. After about nine hours, random destruction of the Oldsmobile began:A couple of laughing teenagers ripped off the rearview mirror and hurled it at the windshield and headlights. Reminiscent of a scene from Lord of the Flies, a group of smaller children began indiscriminately smashing the car's windows and slashing its tires. At the end of the sixty-four hours, the 1959 Oldsmobile was a mere shadow of its former self, a useless carcass of twisted metal, the victim of no less than twenty-three incidents of theft and vandalism. All of the perpetrators were well-dressed,clean-cut whites, who might as Zimbardo says,"under other circumstances be mistaken for mature and responsible citizens demanding more of law and order”(Zimbardo 1969). ガンジーについて文章なのですが、よろしくお願いします。 非常に長くて申し訳ありません。
Carefully observing the intertwined relationships in his date plotted over time, Losada noticed which of his measures forecast later changes in other measures.
Losada’s equations demonstrated that the unfolding behavior these business teams reflected a complex system-more specifically a nonlinear dynamic system (see the nose section for an explanation of these terms).
Tourism is the worlds biggest industry. As well as giving people the chance to enrich their lives,it promotes economic development and creates jobs. But there is also a negative side to the tourist industry. Building tourist resorts often causes damage to the local environment. Often, the traditional way of life in such areas is disrupted by large numbers of tourists.

In recent years, however,a new type of tourism has become popular. this is called ecotourism. It is much kinder to the environment than conventional tourism. Compared with a package tour, the size of the group is smaller. The accommodations where tourists stay are smaller and less luxurious than normal tourist hotels. Local people also get more benefit from such tours. Some of the profit from the touurs is donated to community projects.

When people think of Costa Rica, they imagine rain forests, rivers, and beautiful beaches. These things are not in San Jose. But this city is still one of the world's best. Why?
Unlike other cities in Central and South America, San Jose has comfortable weather all year (15℃/60゜F to 26℃/79゜F).
Housing is affordable in San Jose. Also, many of the city's older neighborhoods are very beautiful and have small hotels, art galleries, and cafes.
Beautiful volcanoes and mountains surround the city. You can visit them easily from San Jose.
Minuses: There's good public transportation, but traffic and air pollution are a problem in the city center.
The city: This lively city-once a small fishing village-is today an international business center. It is an interesting mix of East and West, old and new. Modern skyscrapers are next to small temples. Popular nightclubs are close to traditional teahouses. Busy crowds fill the streets at all hours of the day. But outside the city, there are parks for walking or relaxing.
The food: Hong Kong is famous for its wonderful native dishes (try dim sum). There's also food from Europe, North America, and other parts of Asia.
Minuses: This small city has a large population. How many people live in Hong Kong? Almost seven million! That's why housing is often very expensive. Traffic and air pollution are also a problem.

The Stanford car was also carefully monitored from a distance and,at least initially, attracted little attention. Zimbardo notes that the“releaser cues”(license plates removed and hood up), Which were sufficient in New York to initiate theft and destructive behavior, were insufficient in Palo Alto. For a week, the car remained strangely unmolested, and one kind person even lowered its hood when it began to rain. At this point,Zimbardo and his students decided to initiate destructive behavior themselves to see what would follow. After one of his students began smacking the side of the car with a sledgehammer, other nearby students quickly joined in the aggression. In short time, one passing student after another begged for the sledgehammer.
The retirement of Associate Supreme Court Justice David H. Given the importance of this event please consider the following:
Discuss the constitutional guidelines have been set forth for the nomination and confirmation of a nominee to the Supreme Court of the United States;
Discuss the legal, political, social, demographic , gender and ideological issues that President Obama will have to consider in placing into nomination a candidate who he may think will successfully get through the rigors of the confirmation process;
Our approach to Stratford form London was an impresive one. Over the old Clopton Bridge we could enjoy the fine view down the river Avon, past the shakespeare Memorial Theatre to the slender spire of Holy Trinity church rising among the distant trees. But not for long. We had soon crossed the bridge and were driving up the spacious Bridge Street, then bearing left through a narrow opening into Henley street. Hewe we passed a strangely small house-in proportion to the houses surrounding it- with a yellow flag flying from its roof, before eventually making our way to the nearby coach park. On alighting from the coach, we retraced our steps to that house, which turned out to be none other than Shakespeare's birthplace; while the flag proved to be Shakespeare's flag with his family coat of arms and the motto "Non Sanz Droict"-Not with- out right. おねがいします。
Once one person had begun to wield the sledgehammer, it was difficult to get him to stop and pass it to the next pair of eager hands. Finally they all attacked simultaneously. One student jumped on the roof and began stoplng it in,two were pulling the door from its hinges, another hammered away at the hood and motor, while the last one broke all the glass he could find. They later reported that feeling the metal or glass give way under the force of their blows was stimulating and pleasurable. Observers of this action, who were shouting out to‘hit harder’and‘smash it,’finally joined in and turned the car completely over on its back,Whacking at the underside.(Zimbardo,1969;pp.290-2)

Airlines are concerned about children's cell phones that contain a built-in crime prevention function that auto matically restarts the phone if it is switched off. Those phones could interfere with navigation systems. NTT Do Co Mo sold about 390,000 units by April 2007,and KDDI Corp has introduced similar models with the same function. At the poke of a finger, cell phones can put you on a diet, let you surf the Web, watch a movie, take a picture, listen to a song or talk on the phone. New functions are being created all the time. One of those composers is Keiko Fujiie.Discussing with me why she became attracted to gagaku, she made a good point:"The[cultural isolation of the]Edo period is a very great distance away. There is no way to approach it.But gagaku is somehow closer. It came from so many places-Korea, China,India, etc. In ancient time, there was more contact with foreign people[as in present-day Japan]." Then she spoke about musical characteristics:"Pitch, for instance. It has certain[instrumental]pitch, whereas Edo music does not-the pitch always followed the human voice. And the sound of the sho is special;for me it was an entrance to approach the gagaku world. Also, gagaku has this idea of ensemble." When I asked Fujiie whether the structure of gagaku compositions was of interest to her,she replied: "Gagaku in the Heian period and now are so different that I don't know how to answer that.In the first half of the Heian period, there was so much improvisation." Whereas some of the composers commissioned by the National Theater treated the gagaku ensemble quite like an orchestra-Toru Takemitsu, for instance, who wanted such a large group that amateur players had to be invited to join the Imperial Household musicians-Fujiie took the opportunity to learn about the ensemble as it functioned historically.Learning that in daily Heian elite life, there was comstantly music making on the strings and winds without the percussion, she decided to follow suit in her piece. タイプ慣れしていないので、ミスタイプが目立つかもしれませんが、宜しくお願いします

In this section, we briefly review the results of previous research studies on walking bipeds and go though our new proposals and features for this system. Although our proposed modification could be applied to a general n-link biped, for simplicity, we perform the calculations for a two-link biped, for simplicity, we perform the calculations for a two-link compasslike planar biped. As stated in the Introduction, McGeer[3] showed that the simplest model for passive walker biped robots is the compass gait model. For simplicity, some assumptions are made in this model. All masses are considered point masses. Each leg is assumed to have a massless prismatic joint;i.e,, the leg is kneeless, and its lower section is massless. This model consists of three point masses, two of which are located on the legs(M_L)and the third is placed on the hip(M_H)(Fig.1). The leg length is denoted by l, which is divided into a and b, where a is the distance from the leg tip to position M_L and b is the distance from M_L to the hip center.

Here are two of the greatest minds of the century, helpless and frustrated before the persistence of war. Einstein, venturing that aggressive instincts are at the roof of war , asks Freud , the expert on instincts, for help in coming to a solution. Note, however, that Einstein has jumped from "man has within him a lust" to "disastrous collective suggestions." Freud ignores this leap from instinct to culture and affirms that the "destructive instinct" is the crucial cause of war.
But what is Freud's evidence for the existence of such an instinct? There is something curious in his argument. He offers no proof from the field of his expertise, psychology. His evidence is in "the most casual glance at world-history".
The added propensity for human beings to engage in violent behavior when others around them are doing so is well known among social psychologists. Although the precise mechanisms behind the phenomenon are still a subject of much research,it is virtually undisputed. Moreover, the "Broken Window Theory" has given rise to entire strategies of crime-fighting,cracking down on small offenses(such as fare-evasion and graffiti)to preserve a sense of order that deters bigger crimes. Imitative behavior is not unique to violence;it is manifest in countless other realms of social life.

In Stratford everything recalls the memory of William Shakespeare, from the house where he was born to the church where he lies buried. There is also the house or cottage of Anne Hathaway, who became his wife and gave him three children-a rather splendid old farm-house, if only the continual crowds wouldn't obscure its splendour; the house of his mother Mary Arden some three or four miles away, all the more splendid for being removed from "the madding crowd"; the larger croft or house of his son-in-law, Dr.john hall, who married his favourite daughter Susanna and settled down near Holy trinity Church; the old grammar school next to the Guild Chapel, where shakespeare must have had his early schooling; and the foundations and garden of New Place, the fine house which the poet acquired for himself in the centre of Stratford but which was burnt down by a crazy clergyman in the eighteenth century. 長めの文ですがよろしくお願いします。

Gladwell tells the story of fashion designer Joel Fitzpatrick, who immediately began converting space in his Los Angeles store into a Hush Puppies retail department complete with a twenty-five-foot inflatable Bassett Hound on the roof. But even before Fitzpatrick had finished putting up shelves and painting, who should amble into his store but pop comedian Pee-wee Herman, asking for a pair of Hush Puppies. Thousands followed as the Hush Puppy trend spread like wildfire. Sales increased to 430,000 pairs in 1995,rising to 1,600,000 pairs in 1996. Gladwell breaks down the spread of“cool”in the Hush Puppies example into innovators (20-something clubbers in Manhattan), early adopters (like Pee-wee Her-man), the early majority (Who are very trend sensitive and take their cues from early adopters such as Herman),and the late majority(who make up the bulk of sales but take their cues from the early majority). How the spread of such behavior or begins, however,is exceptionally difficult to nail down. Moreover,Gladwell explains, the spread of "cool" is a process that is hard for firms to manipulate to their advantage. 和訳よろしくお願いします。

A large crowd of people stands in front of USSR station in Moscaw, late on a friday night. The crowd is made up of men and women of all ages. Some of them are taking in sign language. Suddenly two performers appear. The crowd cheers loudly. The two performers wave their hand, and the young man begins to play his guitar. As he sings, however,we realize that he is just half of the show. The young women is singing and singing his songs. Many people in the crowd dance along, even though it seems that some of them can't hear the music or the singing. Iwan can hardly hear, either. She has been deaf since she was a little girl. Yes she moves about rhythmically and sings the words to the song beautifully.
Her singing in sign languages is kind of dance that their fans have come to love. She calls thissign vocals,She performs the songs not only through her sign language but through her steps and moves. “I was a member of the rhythmic gymnastics club in high school, and that helped me develop a sense of rhythm,”says. her's dream of becoming a singer was never lost though she had a handicap. After she saw a famous singer, sing on TV,she decided to become a singer herself. She never thought that her handicap would stop her.

The worst part of it was not being allowed to cough or make a sound, and knowing that if I did,I was as good as dead.
And all the way through,I was living in constant terror to that one of witches in the back row was going to get a whiff of my presence through those special nose-holes of hers.

When Bill Bond, the principal of Heath High School, heard the first shots ring our, He ran from his office to the lobby, just in time to see the leader of the prayer grope, Luke Fallon, confront Michael, demanding to be told why he was shooting at people. By that time, Michael had put the handgun down on the floor. Michael turned to Luke and pleaded, “Please, just shoot me!” Instead, Bond hustled Michael into his office and turned him over to Ron Kilgore, his academic adviser at Heath. Teachers came running to help the injured, and those who knew what to do began to pump chests and blow into the mouths of students who had stopped breathing.

The Seven Sisters thus reveal more fossils each year, relics of their time which would otherwise have stayed in their ancient home. That home was once at the bottom of the sea, then underground, and now is in the form of the glaring white cliffs that can be seen from France and are such a symbol of England.

Much advice is given to the new adults on Coming-of-Age Day by their parents and famous people. The young adults listen to the advice and learn from the experience of their elders. But the ones giving advice to the young men and women should reflect at this time. Parents and famous people appeal to the young people with a certain amount of emotion and sentimentality to do this or become that, but quite often there is a need for them to ask themselves if they are, in fact, following the advice they are giving to others.
While these questions are familiar to social psychologists, they have become fresh meat for the technical tools of economists. Traditionally, economists assume that agents make optimal decisions from an internal calculus based on individual preferences that are "stable," or unaffected by the preferences and choices of others. This framework is commonly employed, not because it reflects the actual behavior of human beings in the real world, but because it makes microeconomic models easier to work with from a mathematical standpoint. Often such assumptions are innocuous, but many believe that this dependence on individualistic rationality has caused economics to fall short as a genuinely social science. Fortunately, a new generation of economists has grown increasingly keen to bring the“social”back into the“science”without compromising the methodological rigor of the field. - lost Grottofights: In the Grotto you always get Experience ( even when you loose ); the Experience you get is now shown even when you loose the battle
- additional Sortoptions in the Huntstatistic
- Adjustment Items "Amucana", "Etaxalo", "Marsil", "Crissaegrim", "Fauchard" It was necessary to do some changes in the values:
- Visit the church in the city: Blessing and cure of wounds You can regenerate 10% of your maximum Lifepoints ( not present LP ) here, it is possible to do it once per hour. For each blessing you have to pay 10% of your daily wage ( 24 hours work on the graveyard ). Within 24 hours you can regenerate max 75% of your LP. When you´ve regenerated 70% of your LP, and you visit the church again only 5% will be regenerated then. The cooldown of the potions will also count here, means you can choose each hour between using a potion or the church ( when you´ve used a potion you cannot use the church until the cooldown of the potion is done / after visiting the church you cannot use a potion for one hour ). You can use the 100% potions as before ( no cooldown ).
- Conformation / "old" % - Items: The following Items will be conformated to the Accountlevel because the advantage you got using them with "high" Level Accounts is too big:
With ascending Level these Items will loose their value, for example the Armour "Vesden" : when you are level 50 you get the full 25% value; when you are level 60 you get only 17% value, and you get 0% value when you are Level 128.

[1] For people who thrive on information, this is an exciting time to be alive, with daily delivery of newspapers, magazines and television programs, and 24-hour Internet access. However, not all of the information we get is reliable. In their rush to meet publishing deadlines, journalists often omit or fail to confirm essential details; and the Internet is full of traps for information seekers who wander off the beaten track. Mistakes are no big deal if we just want to know the result of a football match, but they are of major significance if we are seeking an appropriate drug for a rare disease or trying to find out about an accident at a nearby nuclear power plant.
[2] Even before the advent of the Internet, there were plenty of myths created by pranksters, advertising agencies, advocacy groups and even governments. Among the most famous spoofs were the widely-quoted scientific report on the mysterious powers of pyramids and the iconic photograph of the Loch Ness Monster, both of which were eventually revealed as hoaxes by their creators. While providing harmless entertainment, these also serve as a reminder of the need to be skeptical of any information that does not come from impeccable sources.
[3] Misleading claims made by manufacturers are more serious, and in many countries these may result in penalties. In the case of governments, however, the only penalty for issuing false or misleading information is embarrassment when they are caught out. The Japanese government-funded Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation once produced a cartoon film showing a character named Pluto Kun drinking plutonium, with the intention of convincing the public that nuclear power was safe. It backfired, however, when it was denounced as highly irresponsible by independent experts and ridiculed by the international media.
[4] Advocacy groups, too, have been guilty of spreading false and misleading information. For example, there are various phony research institutes dedicated to convincing people that global warming is a myth, which were set up by major companies likely to be adversely affected by policies to prevent global warming. Despite losing the media battle, they and their corporate sponsors managed to delay action for a lost decade that the next generation should never forgive them for.
[5] On the other side of the political spectrum, environmentalists do not always get their facts right either. For example, when Shell Oil Company announced plans to dump an old oil platform in the sea, Greenpeace protested that it was full of toxic chemicals and would be an environmental catastrophe. After an aggressive campaign, Greenpeace succeeded in persuading Shell to tow the rig to land and dismantle it there. It then became clear that the amount of toxic chemicals was much smaller than Greenpeace had estimated, and that dumping the oil rig in the sea would have been better for the environment. The lesson to be drawn is not that environmentalists are deliberately distorting the facts, or that the best way to get rid of stuff is to dump it in the ocean, but that we should be prepared to question what we read and hear, even when it comes from people and organizations that we trust and respect and when it supports our own views.
[6] One person who did just that was British environmentalist Chris Goodall. In order to verify the conventional belief that walking is the most environment-friendly way to get around, he compared a 4.8-km journey to the local shop by car and on foot, and factored in not only the carbon dioxide discharged by the car but also the 180 calories of energy burned by the walker and the food that would be needed to replace those calories. Surprisingly, he found that if the walker ate 100 grams of beef in order to regain the lost calories, it would result in four times as much carbon being discharged compared to going by car, because so much energy is used in meat production. Even if the walker drank a half liter of milk instead, it would still result in more carbon emissions than the short drive to the store would. A shallow interpretation of Goodall’s findings might lead to the conclusion that driving is better for the environment than walking. However, that is not what Goodall is telling us. If we examine the problem more carefully, we find that the real issue is the role of large-scale agriculture in global warming. To confirm this, we might refer to a report by the US Department of Agriculture – a firm supporter of modern farming methods – which tells us that agriculture is responsible for 17% of US energy consumption.
[7] Transport and agriculture also feature in another interesting example of challenged assumptions. A large amount of cut flowers is flown from Kenya to the UK every year. This provides poor Kenyans with a useful source of income, but also results in significant carbon emissions. Environmentalists were at odds with development agencies over whether this trade should be discouraged. However, it turns out that producing the same amount of flowers in a heated greenhouse in the Netherlands results in the emission of five times as much carbon. But before jumping to conclusions and outsourcing all flower production to Kenya, we should first ask ourselves if we need cut flowers at all.
[8] In a recent issue of Positive Living entitled “The Tree that Could Save the Planet”, a project to plant a million Japanese paulownia trees across the US was introduced. According to the article, the paulownia absorbs ten times more carbon dioxide than any other species of tree. Much as I admire both the magazine and the tree, I found this somewhat hard to believe. I immediately turned to Google to see whether or not the claim was true. If you would like to know the answer too, log on to the Internet and find out what the experts have to say.

The abolition of the slave trade in 1807, and the conference of the freedom upon all slaves in British territory in 1883 are the obvious outcome of a formulated ethic with gathered perceptible momentum over some three hundred years, until its translation into political action by the use of the state power become virtually irresistible.
Let's move the discussion forward, fifty years later, to a school of thought that did not exist in Freud's time, sociobiology. The leading spokesperson in this group is E.O. Wilson, a Harvard University professor and distinguished scientist. His book sociobiology is an impressive treatise on the behavior of various species in the biological world that have social inclinations, like ants and bees.
In the last chapter of sociolbiology, Wilson turned to human beings, andthis drew so much attention that he decided to write a whole book dealing with this subject: On Human Nature. In it there is a chapter on aggression. It starts off with the question: "Are human beings innately aggressive?"
Two sentences later: "The answer to it is yes."(No hesitation here.) And the next sentence explains why: "Throughout history, warfare, representing only the most organized technique of aggression, has been endemic to every from of society, from hunter-gatherer bands to industrial states".

The informational fluid in which we're awash is a mixed blessing. There's the pure distillate of well-filtered scientific findings, but there's even more saltwater promotional material surrounding us. When it comes to date on medications, doctors and patients need more fresh water to survive in our little informational vessels.
2Even the finest aqueducts can't move along the flow of information if the spigot at the source is turned down to a trickle. To see the beginnings of the problem,we can start in Rockville,Maryland-home of the FDA. We saw in Part One that the agency generally does not require a manufacturer to demonstrate that a drug works any better than available alternatives-just that it's better than placebo. In fact many new drugs are not better than already available alternatives. But if a manufacturer isn't required to perform comparative trials they are much less likely to occur, and the date needed to feed our distilled-information thirst are never produced. With a few notable exceptions, the slack has not been taken up by others in the private sector(such as HMOs or other large insurers/payers),governmental programs(Medicare,Medicaid, or those two huge drug purchasers, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Defense Department),or the National Institutes of Health, and certainly not by the FDA itself.
3 The two landmark NIH-funded studies published in 2002 that we’ve considered before illustrate what can be accomplished when common drug questions are addressed with well-funded systematic investigation. The trial of hormone replacement therapy found that some of the most widely prescribed drug products in America did not decrease the risk of heart disease but did cause breast cancer, stroke, blood clots, and other bad outcomes. The ALLHAT study showed that using newer ,more expensive blood clots, and heart disease than the oldstandby thiazides ,and drove up drug costs as well. What was remarkable about these studies was not that they were done, but that they were preformed decades later than they should have been ,and that there are not dozens more like them to address the myriad other medication-use questions that remain unstudies.
4 Thirst is a powerful drive. Survival guides offer the unappealing advice that if you’re ever stranded at sea,it helpa to drink your own urine for the first few days because it will be less toxic than the sea water around you. Starved for purified date, many doctors do the self-referential information equivalent:they feed their decisions with their own recent clinical experience. This may be better than relying solely on promotional material in the same way that drinking urine is better than relying on salt water ,but “In my experience …”is usually a less reliable guide for choosing a drug than “The clinical trial data show… ”That’ s how our hypothetical Dr.Vasily failed to prevent Stan’ s stroke in the Prologue; millions such evidence-starved decisions are made daily.

Shut up, stupid Chinese! When it comes to cheating China is by far the best in the World. Did you forget what the filthy Chinese team did in the 2002 World Championship? The Chinese team is disgusting and it was fantastic to see Brazil kicking their asses in Beijing!
Just for the sake of curiosity, in the last Olympic Cycle, Brazil and China faced each other 12 times, with 8 victories for Brazil, China only beat Brazil 4 times and the 4 times they did it, Brazil didn't have its main players.
In Tokyo, it's an envelope with $850,000 in cash. At Florida's Disney World, it's a glass eye. At a hotel in England, it's goat and a false leg. How are of these things similar? They are unusual things that people leave in hotel rooms, in airports, and on city streets.
Trish Martino works in the Lost and Found Center at an airport in a US city. "Sure, we find the usual stuff−cell phones, keys, sunglasses, and wallets," she says. "But people also forget some weird things at the airport, too." What does Ms. Martino find? A woman's false teeth in the bathroom. A mannequin in an airport waiting area. "How do you forget those things?" Martino wonders.
Nobuo Hasuda works for the Lost and Found Center in downtown Tokyo. The Center has almost 800,000 items. Three hundred thousand of them are umbrellas! There are also many other things−jewelry and briefcases, snow-shoes and musical instruments.
Mr. Hasuda keeps the lost items for six months and two weeks. After this time, the finder can take the item. This is good luck for some people. Remember the envelope in Tokyo with $850,000? The owner did not claim it. Now the money belongs to the finder!

We have so far found no compelling theoretical justification for favoring any one of these statements over the other two. A theory, or at least a story, could be developed to support any one of the three statements. We will suggest some of these stories as we go along. However, we do not claim to have a theory of managerial behavior fully supporting our model. We treat the three statements as possible assumptions about managerial behavior. Since we cannot judge the assumptions' realism, we turn instead to their positive implications.

Old stockholders are assumed passive. They "sit tight" if stock is issued; thus the issue goes to a different group of investors. If the firm has ample slack, and thus does not need to issue shares in order to invest, old shareholders also sit tight if the investment is made. Thus, acting in old stockholders' interest amounts to maximizing the true or intrinsic value of the existing shares. (Here "true" or "intrinsic" value means what the shares would sell for, conditional on the firms' issue-invest decision, if investors knew everything that managers know.)

He had another, even more secret job to do in Mesopotamia. Britain suspected that the Arabs were fed up with being ruled by the Turks and would be glad to get rid of them. So he was told to look around in Mesopotamia for an Arab who could lead his people in revolt against their Turkish master, someone who could persuade them to fight for the British instead. He had not been certain the Arabs did want to revolt, but now Khail himself had confirmed that most Arabs were against the Turks. So he began to call on Arab leaders in Mesopotamia, asking each one to collect a force and rebel against the Turks, and promising each one an unlimited supply of gold to do this. Some refused. Others did not appear strong enough for the job. In the end he went back to Cairo disappointed. よろしくお願いします。

あつかましながら直訳なしでお願い致しますm(__)m 『A Woman's Attractiveness』 What makes women attractive? Men do! A woman is a sight to behold. In a sense, most men think that seeing is believing. But is it as simple as that? Feminine beauty has been celebrated since the beginning of time. But some of the “beauty marks”have changed over the ages. For example, in Victorian England it was the small mouth pulled together, like blowing a kiss, that gave a woman her charm. But nowadays in Western cultures, a woman's mouth should be wide and full-lipped,as held by American actresses Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz. Women have accented their attractiveness by emphasizing their ankles, knees, and even their neck, like Helen Hunt did in the movie “As Good As It Gets”. The most famous full-bodied woman in the 1950s was Marilyn Monroe. But today, she would probably be considered overweight. Fashion models have taken on a more slender appearance.

@The first survey of life in deep waters around Antarctica has turned up hundreds of new species and a lot more variety than explorers had expected.
AA team of scientists from eight countries sampled bottom dwellers during three cruises in the ocean south of the Atlantic. Some of the researchers offer their "first insights" into these Southern Ocean depths in the May 17 Nature.
BThe new work is the "first systematic and comprehensive study" of biology in the south polar depths, says one of the study leaders, Angelika Brandt of the Zoological Museum in Hamburg, Germany.
CA researcher not on the team, Richard Aronson of Dauphin Island Sea Lab in Alabama, welcomes the work "as a significant step forward .... The last great frontiers in marine biology are the deep sea and Antarctica."
DThe Southern Ocean team spent weeks aboard the German research icebreaker Polarstern in 2002 and 2005. The ship's low center of gravity keeps it stable enough for researchers to work in all but the heaviest seas. "It sits there like a bus," says Brigitte Ebbe of the Senckenberg Research Institute in Bonn, Germany.
EThe team sampled deep-sea life by dropping devices that scooped sediment and its inhabitants from the bottom. It took the scientists 6 to 8 hours to lower the device and then bring up a single scoop. The ship stopped above 40 sampling sites at depths ranging from 774 to 6,348 meters.
FEbbe says researchers often speak of the deep ocean as beginning around 1,000 meters deep, below which there's a largely undiscovered world. In any water that deep, "half the species are new to science," she says.
GThe Southern Ocean offered even more unknowns, the team reports. Of the one hundred or more species of the small crustaceans called ostracods that the team found, some 70 percent are new to science. Of the 674 marine isopods ― little crustaceans related to pill bugs ― 585 are new.
H Life wasn't abundant down there, but it was varied. The survey turned up more new isopod species than had been found in the past century of exploring the entire Antarctic continental shelf, says Brandt.
Quoting an Amnesty International Spokesman, the report described the fate of at least 64 people [who are imprisoned for peacefully expressing their opinions online] 教えてください><
IThe diversity was indeed a surprise, she adds. Analyses of mollusks and isopods in the Northern Hemisphere have inspired the idea that diversity dwindles the closer a habitat is to the pole. "[So far,] we doubt that," she says.
J"For the first time, we have a huge data set on the Southern Ocean deep-sea diversity," says Sven Thatje of the University of Southampton in England, a polar ecologist not on the team. He says that he looks forward to using the data to test hypotheses about the development of Antarctic marine ecosystems.
K"[For the newfound creatures], the big question that remains is, 'How do they make a living?'" says Ebbe. Deep-sea creatures anywhere typically survive on debris settling from above, what biologists call "marine snow." "[The debris] has usually already been through two or three bodies on the way down, so there's not much nutrition left," she says.
L"The take-home message is that there is no place on this Earth that is not teeming with life," says Ebbe.

On these two days, the sun crosses the equator, and the lengths of day and night become equal. These two days are national holidays.
During Higan the Japanese have long had the custom of honoring their ancestors whom they believe to be in the “other world”of the west where the sun sets. People visit their family graves, clean them, and show reverence for the dead by offering flowers and incense. A kind of rice dumpling called ohagi, flavored with sweet bean paste or soybean flour, is also placed before the graves.

What if the firm's managers know more about the value of its assets and opportunities than outside investors do? As we will show, nothing fundamental is changed so long as managers invest in every project they know to have positive NPV. If they do this, the shares investors buy will be correctly priced on average, although a particular issue will be over or underpriced. The manager's inside information creates a side bet between old and new stockholders, but the equilibrium issue price is unaffected.

To pay respect to the graves of ancestor is to reflect on the past, take a good look at the present and then think about the future. Through the road trod by one's family, one thinks about the history of one's country and the world. From this, the desire is born to realize what the ancient people dreamed of but could not achieve.
Which depreciation methods do most Businesses use? Most businesses use the straight-line method of depreciation in their financial statements and accelerated methods in their income tax returns. The reasons for choices are easy to understand.

The researchers wanted to find out which parts of the woman's body were praised as being biautiful through the ages. They looked through three centuries of English literature and three Asian literary classics dating back almost 2000 years. Some points of interest were found to include a woman's breasts, hips, legs, buttocks and thighs-as we might imagine. But it was another feature that stood out as being the highest point of woman's attractiveness. It was a slim waist that was referred to most often in the literature they read. Why is a narrow waist the peak of desire that has stood out over time and through various cultures? The authors of the study, which appeared in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B, a Britishu journal, belive it is a sign of strong health and fertility. Men instinctively rate a woman's waist for its successful reproduction quality. And this is the "beauty standard" of all feminine beauty. Should we be surprised about the result of this study? Perhaps not. A University of Essex study conclud ed that men are more attracted to women who are young and thin. In addition, a Japanese leading underwear marker noticed that there is a market for girdles-for men. It seems that a flat stomach that lifts the hips is becoming the focus for us all!
The first problem is to figure out the equilibrium share price conditional on the issue-investment decision, assuming rational investors, and also a rational firm which bases the issue-investment decision on the price it faces. This paper addresses that problem, and solves it under reasonable simplifying assumptions. The assumptions are set out and discussed in Section 1. This section also contains a numerical example. A general formulation and solution is given in Section 2.

Most publicly owned companies want to appear as profitable as possible---certainly as profitable as their competitors. Therefore, the overwhelming majority of publicly owned companies use straight-line depreciation in their financial statements (see the graph on page 449).
@ Hi Patrick This guy is having fun and the little kid watching is enjoying it. He gets a good yell from the first catch. Chickens are best when you frighten them first then grab them by one leg - makes them really flap and yell. Sorry if I'm cruel. Please comment. David, chicken hurter
A Patrick Your English is fine. I love to hear your comments. I imagine if you were in a pen of pigs you would love to grab them and make them squeal. I would love to see you do it! I will continue to share stuff with you. Would you like me to tell you about some of the cruel catches and kills I have done? I hope you don't find me too cruel? David
B Patrick Hope I'm not sending you too much cruelty, but I thought you would like this one. Watch the kid being interviewed, see the determination in his face and hear the cruelty in his voice. He's dressed just like a professional pig squealer - sleeveless shirt and tight jeans. Don't see much of his catch, but there's some good squealing. And I like the look of satisfaction on his face in the post-catch interview. I'd be quite happy to have him help me deal with a few pigs! Maybe he could teach me a few things about cruelty to pigs? Any comments - as cruel as you like David

There are people in their mid-to late-20s who lose their steady office job and others who are "freeters' that drift between odd jobs. This seems to be the trend of the new Japanese generation. By the way,the word "freeter"is a compound of "free and "arbeiter",the German word for "worker". Homeless people in Japan may have a better life than those in America. America has a population of about 300 million with around 335,000 homeless. Japan's population is nearly 127 million with 18,500 homeless. In the U.S.and Europe, a higher percentage of homeless people are troubled by alcoholism and mental illness than in Japan. In 2007, about 2,000 homeless people in Tokyo were removed from five major parks. The city government offered almost 70 percent of them job training and places to live at lower prices for two years.

The lesson to be drawn is not that environmentalists are deliberately distorting the facts, or that the best way to get rid of stuff is to dump it in the ocean, but that we should be prepared to question what we read and hear, even when it comes from people and organizations that we trust and respect and when it supports our own views.

お願いします As a result of this kind of generous governmental program,in the past four years, the total of homeless across Japan had fallen 27 percent. Nnowadays, where can the working poor people who can't afford to stay in a capsule hotel but have a little money,go? Well, fast food restaurants, saunas,"manga kissa"(comic-book rental shops)and Internet cafes are becoming popular. One all-night fast food outlet is McDonald's Japan. Some cusomers enter the restaurant around 11:00 p.m. why is that? Maybe it is because they want to order a 100 yen hamburger and a glass of water. Then, they can bring a "tenugui"(hand towel)with them and use it as a pillow. Others may bring earplugs with them to block out the noise. For those who are regular patrons at the early hours, a bar of soap is brought in and can be used in the lavatory sink to give oneself a sponge bath. These young people are currently called "Makkunanin",that is McDonald's refugees. Taking a nap in cities'24-hour Internet cafes is an inexpensive way to get by.

Financial markets function as both primary and secondary markets for debt and equity securities. The term primary market refers to the original sale of securities by governments and corporations. The secondary markets are those in which these securities are bought and sold after the original sale. Equities are, of course, issued solely by corporations. Debt securities are issued by both governments and corporations. In the discussion that follows, we focus on corporate securities only.

Corporations engage in two types of primary-market transactions: public offerings and private placements. A public offering, as the name suggests, involves selling securities to the general public, whereas a private placement is a negotiated sale involving a specific buyer.

To call this a "green dream team" would not be putting it too strongly. But what about actual policies? With the fiscal crisis intensifying into an unemployment crisis (two million jobs lost so far) and threatening an era of prolonged depression, Obama has made it clear that everything has to be subsumed into the urgent task of rebooting the economy. Accordingly, all eyes were on the draft Obama-Biden stimulus package circulating on Capitol Hill earlier this month. The plan makes it clear that the US car industry will indeed be bailed out, not just to save jobs but to "ensure that the next generation of clean vehicles is built in the United States". Although most of the document deals with the nitty-gritty of tax credits, mortgage assistance and the like, a section on "Manufacturing and Green Jobs" restates the campaign-trail commitment to spend $150bn over ten years on clean-energy technologies, and commits to 25 per cent of electricity being generated from renewable sources by 2025.
But there is much, much more that needs to be done - and the danger is that a single-minded focus on the economy (even with the greenish-tinged stimulus package) will distract the new administration from other urgent tasks. The first of these has to be the creation of a US-wide "cap-and-trade" plan to limit carbon emissions across the American economy - something that Obama has repeatedly promised, but may run into problems delivering given the shakiness of the economy. "Special interests" provide jobs, too, after all, and existing lobbies always fight harder than fledgling ones. Recent EU experience is salutary - Europe's own cap-and-trade scheme has run into the sand because of industry lobbying, with the cement, car and coal industries using the credit crunch as a reason to demand - and win - a further round of free carbon giveaways. The European carbon cap is now so weak that the latest estimates suggest industry will be able to avoid any emissions cuts until 2017 simply by buying cheap overseas offsets.
Now the EU has dropped the ball on climate, America has to lead the way. After years of inaction, Obama really is our last hope. If the US gets serious about cutting its own emissions and speeding the transition to a clean-energy economy, then China too may feel impelled to move, breaking the international political deadlock. But the US has a long way to go - its own emissions have soared since Bush repudiated Kyoto back in 2001.
For its part, the US environmental movement is not short of demands. At the end of November, a coalition of 29 green NGOs published a 390-page document for the Obama transition team, requesting a 35 per cent domestic carbon emissions cut by 2020, better protection for the Arctic against oil drilling, policies to promote organic farming, a stronger focus on wildlife conservation and the restoration of science as the basis for environmental policymaking, as well as a whole host of other reforms. The problem will be balancing all these competing demands at a time when presidential attention is constantly demanded elsewhere - as the economy continues to slide and the war in Afghanistan intensifies, not to mention the crisis in Palestine. But if even a small proportion of Obama's rhetoric is translated into concrete action, then a new era really is unfolding. George Bush will be history. It's a delicious prospect.
First of all thank you for your interest in my work and your kind words about it. I´m really glad you can find some inspiration in it.
i´m quite surprised by your mail, because i´m quite new in the illustration world and i feel i still have tons of things to learn, so i´m not sure i´m ready to have a "pupil". i feel my art is in a really inmature stage and that has to develop far more from what it is today. so, while im trying to find myself as an illustrator i think it won´t be honest to "teach" things i´m not really sure about. of course i can see what you are working on and we can comment it. but i believe art is a really personal path and that with all the enthusiasm that you have and all the effort you are willing to put into it, i´m sure you will find your place.
so, again, send pictures and ideas. i´ll be glad to discuss about them; but i don´t feel confident enough to do anything further than that.

A hail of gunfire ricocheted off the pavement and the walls. Students now realized they were exposed to the gunmen and began to scream and tug hard on the door that led back into the classroom building, in a desperate attempt to take shelter. Because the door was locked from the inside, it would not budge. Thetford struggled to stand up so that she could protect the children, but found she couldn’t move her leg. She applied pressure to staunch the bleeding until the gym teacher, Coach Thomas, dragged her to a covered walkway behind the classroom building.

After more than twenty years experience of hand tailoring in Savile Row, I can offer my customers the traditions and expertise of the finest bespoke tailoring available today.
At the moment I’m one of the youngest tailors on Savile Row, and am lucky to have enjoyed making for an interesting list of clients, celebs, business icons etc.
Shameless Namedropping: Clients have included Prince Charles, Chief Ralph Lauren Designer John Vizzone, Bryan Ferry, and some other bright sparks who I can’t mention for *Ahem!* reasons of discretion.
Once, after I had made a jacket for John Vizzone, he showed up at the door with a copy he had made for the Ralph Lauren label. Tsk-tsk. He then asked me if I would be interested in going to the USA and working for him. But of course, arrogant chap that I am (not really), I had bigger ideas (silly me). Something to do with staying up in Cumbria- where I grew up- and just enjoying life more, far from the madding crowd etcetera.
Still, Ralph Lauren managed fine, and their ready-to-wear lines are up there with the best.
I hope with my classic background in bespoke tailoring, coupled with a more open approach to this business, the experience of having your clothes made will be as enjoyable for you as it is for me.
I began my career training for 7 years with S. Redmayne, a great little company. After that I spent 5 years with my alma mater, Anderson & Sheppard, the most famous and respected tailor on Savile Row. There I was undercutter to the great Mr. Hallbery, who you could intellegently argue was the greatest tailor of the twentieth century.
I then started Steed with Edwin in 1995; a partnership that lasted six years. Ed & I are still pals and work only a few miles from each other. I’ve been independant since 2001.
My style of tailoring is soft and unstructured, classic "Anderson & Sheppard" style, which offers comfort and a natural look. Apart from a bespoke fit, I always try show a joint expression of style, my client's as much as my own, something that all of us wish to express. Sadly, much of today’s tailoring appears very stiff and structured, with a uniform sameness that’s, well, utterly boring.
Elevated air speed may be used to offset an increase in the air temperature and the mean radiant temperature, but not by more than 3.0℃ above the values for the comfort zone without elevated air speed.

It was Schopenhauer who first said that all arts aspire to the condition of music; that remark has often been repeated, and has been the cause of a good deal of misunderstanding, but it does express an important truth. He is no more ashamed of recording his actions, good and bad, just as they happened, than of seeing himself in his bath. If your friends remind you kindly of your faults, take what he says not only pleasantly, but thankfully. Few treasures are worth as much as a friend who is wise and helpful. Such a one alone can remind us of our faults. お願いします。
Sometimes this opinion may be wrong, but rigat or wrong is not here the question. It is the power that decides for or against war; it is the power that decides for or against reform; it is the power that to a very great degree influences English foreign policy. Science is the attempt to discover, by means of observation, and reasoning based upon it, first, particular fact about the world, and then laws connecting facts with one another and in fortunate cases making it possible to foretell future occurrences. 782の続きです。よろしくお願いします。

Thetford's class emerged onto the playground, which was bounded at the back by a wooded hillside only 100 yards from the front of the gym. The “drill” was going by the book, Thetford thought, until she heard explosions coming from behind her. “This is some kind of crazy drill and someone has pushed it too far,” she said to herself, “because this is starting to scare the kids.” Seconds later, she felt a sharp pain in her right leg and fell to the pavement. The playground seemed to grow huge before her as panic set in. “I was screaming, ‘ Get down! Get down!’” she recalled later, but in a state of shock, she thought that the kids could not hear her.
Shannon Wright, a popular English teacher at Westside, emerged with her class onto the sidewalk area just behind Thetford’s students. Wright walked straight into the firestorm of bullets blasting from the wooded hillside. Sixth grader Whitney Irving heard Wright yell “Run!” and took off in the direction of the gym with her friend, Britthnry, running behind her, screaming in fear. Within seconds, a bullet tore into Britthney and she crumpled to the ground. Attempting to shield other students from the onslaught, Shannon Wright launched herself over a young girl and took a bullet in the chest.

You may incorporate ideas and discussions from other fields, but your report should primarily focus on one or two areas.
There is no specific requirements on how long the report should be. However, the quality and ideas written on the report counts more than the length of the report.

和訳宜しくお願い致します。 Opportnity Tied up intimately with the idea of the American dream is the concept of opportunity. America claims to be the land of opportunity, of social mobility. Even the poorest man should be able to move upward in life through his own hard work. Miller complicates this idea of opportunity by linking it to time, and illustrating that new opportunity does not occur over and over again. Bernard has made the most of his opportunities;by studying hard in school, he has risen through the ranks of his profession and is now preparing to argue a case in front of the Supreme Court. Biff, on the other hand, while technically given the same opportunityies as Bernard, has ruined his prospects by a decision that he made at the age of eighteen. There seems to be no going back for Biff, after he made the fatal decision not to finish high school.
Dragging children out of the line of fire, teachers who could get to them stripped their clothing in search of the wounds and applied pressure to stop the bleeding. Those who were trained in CPR tried to remember their marching orders, but they knew more about handling choking victims than gunshot wounds. Seventh grade teacher Mary Curtis kept thinking to herself, “What do I need to do? What can I do?” and tried to follow directions coming at her in staccato: “Wrap that wound …try to get a pulse… find bandages…” Curtis’s heart was pounding as she grabbed towels and wrapped wounds, trying to remember what she had seen on TV shows like ER.
A gradual process of popularization has taken place in the industry, resulting in a near loss of film music as a distinctive genre. The beginning of the process can be traced primarily to 1930s theme songs-slow,sentimental melodies with single-line accompaniment with which the modern enka began.BY the early 1970s the word enka came to be used by the media to describe a genre of popular Japanese music that filled a musical void for people not young enough to feel comfortable with rock and folk derivatives in Japan and who demanded their own music.Enka songs were usually a slow to medium-speed ballad, with texts expressing despairing sadness and self-sacrificing fatalism. In the early days of karaoke in Japan, enka comprised the repertory, appealing to middle-aged and elderly people who had literally devoted their lives to rebuilding the Japanese nation.
To the Japanese public, enka sounds timelessly old, although it is still actively created and consumed. The erasure of passing time is in fact part of its attraction.A 1993 hit is deliberately contrived to be easily mistaken for a 1953 one...and for the duration of the song, the forty-year gap is neatly erased. What helps to achieve this time-lessness are not only the sounds and the images of enka but also-and most important-its sentiment. Here are hometowns left long ago but not forgotten, lovers parted, mothers rememberedfor their sacrifices.Amid the tumult and complexity of today's Japan, which faces challenging questions of political leadership, economic recession, and globalization, these affairs of the heart, dredged up from a reconstructed past, seem wonderfully simple, direct, and untarnished...Its reputation "nihon no uta",an expression of "nihonjin no kokoro" and even "dento no oto".Amid the nationalistic cultural fervor of the 1970s, the record industry promoted enka as one emblem of national culture.

That's pretty cool, is the local DJ scene good where you are? I don't have any local bands that I can give you links to listen to, they aren't too bad, but they're a lot more rock and screamo. Do you like rock or is it less of an appeal? Because I noticed on your music list, it doesn't have very much rock genre
We usually think of the meaning of a poem - or any other leterary work - as having been created and fixed by the writer; all we readers have to do is find out what the author intended to say. However, although it is indeed the poet who gives verbal form to his or her idea or vision, it is the reader who translates this verbal shape into meaning and personal resoibse. Readubg is in reality a creative process affected by the attitudes, memories, and past reading experiences of each individual reader. It is the feature of reading which allows for the possibility of any poem having more than one interpretation.

Most of the wounded were carried into the gym, the closest accessible building out of the line of fire, but not all the teachers could get there. Some ended up isolated in the classroom building, unable to let go of wounded kids long enough to alert emergency personnel or fellow teachers to their whereabouts. Sixth grade teacher Liz Carleton was one of those left to tend wounded students inside. “All I knew was that I was in that building alone with a child who was dying. I was afraid she was going to die on me, and there was no help.” Carleton remembered that the school kept big blue barrels full of emergency supplies in the classrooms and somehow had the presence of mind to get some.
I got [the earthquake kit] open….I was throwing everything back over my shoulder ’cause …I didn’t know what I needed…But I just got washcloths…and got on the floor and just put them on her leg…Those cloths were just soaked in a matter of seconds. Britthney asked me, ‘Will I lose my leg? Will I lose my leg?’
Within ten minutes of the shooting, police and emergency personnel converged on the middle school. Virtually everyone who arrived on the scene to help had a child or a neighbor in potential danger, and they were frantic about finding out whether they were safe. “Once I got down there and saw how bad it was,” remembered Emily Levitt, an elementary school teacher, “all I could think about was my niece.” The scene was the stuff of nightmares, with injured kids jumbled on the floor of the gym bleeding and crying, and desperate teachers bent over them trying to staunch the blood and reassure their terrified students.
china was very interesting. it's totally different from japan. i had the feeling that people are much more open than in japan. in japan everybody out on the street minds his own business and tries not to disturb anyone else.
unfortunately this also means it was very loud everywhere. there was basically no place to really relax, because there was something going on everywhere.
As is true with so many human problems, people tend to deal with this difficult-to-measure inequality by giving it a name--'luck'--but without claiming any responsibility for how much of it they get.
your life events could be either very tragic or very fortunate. To which category of Scorpio do you belong? There are two types, the extremely emotional, attracted by those pathological aspects of biological relationship, or the highly mystical, concerned with spirituality.
I remember her coming home tired from her job at the restaurant and saying that we were lucky That as bad as things seemed to be, there were people far worse off than we were.
More concrete evidence of this gap between increasingly better execution and relatively undeveloped monitoring can be seen in the results of the Japan Corporate Governance Index survey that the author and colleagues have conducted on firms listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange first section annually since 2002 (www.jcgr.org). The survey assesses the degree to which firms have adopted a "global standard" of corporate governance, consistent with principles set forth by the Japan Corporate Governance Forum and the OECD (which feature independent boards and transparent financial reporting, among other things).
和訳をお願いします。 I experienced the rich kind of meditation that occurs only when you reach a nearly selfless state of relaxation. I felt as though my life spread out on either side of me, airing itself out so that it could come back into me, refreshed.

1.With 25 million people (about one-tenth of the U.S. population), California is America’s most populous state and accounts for 12 percent of its GNP. 2.There is no such thing as the ‘President’s English’. 3.The jargon of Silicon Valley has also invaded other languages, such as French (le digitalizer), German (repeat function), helping to establish this sort of English as everybody’s second language. 4.Global English today has nearly standard spelling and vocabulary, although the differences between British and American are large enough for Berlitz to offer two separate courses. 5.English is more widely used today than any other colonial language. 6.That is why, in the 1970s and ‘80s, China began a crash programme of learning English to improve its technical and industrial base. 7.An estimated one word in every 166 in the French newspaper Le Monde is nowadays an English word and about one-twentieth of ordinary French vocabulary is made up of anglicismes. 8.Finally it is worth remembering that speech and literature are the English people’s main contribution to European culture.

One which to me and others, I know, cries out for new diplomatic and trading mechanisms with which to bind into a co-operative process states that, quite naturally, will compete for raw materials and other scarce assets.
長文で申し訳ないですが、よろしくお願いします。 コーポレートガバナンスに関する文の、「Legal Definitions of the Firm」という節です。
Japan resembles the United States in terms of the legal form of corporations because of the heavy influence of the U.S. Occupation Forces on the legal systems and the structure of institutions after World WarU. Some important differences do exist, however. In the past, nonfinancial corporations faced elaborate restrictions that prevented them from establishing holding companies. One of the changes in the ongoing reform of the Japanese financial system, the so-called Japanese Big Bang, is to allow nonfinancial corporations to form holding companies. The rights of Japanese shareholders are in theory greater than those of shareholders in the United States and United Kingdom. For example, in Japan it is easier for shareholders to nominate directors directly and elect them. Also, management remuneration must be decided at general meetings of shareholders. These differences in rights and the role of the shareholders meeting have led to a unique feature of Japanese corporate life, the sokaiya, racketeers who demand payment in exchange for not disrupting shareholders’ meetings.
Despite these differences in shareholders’ rights, the structure of Japanese boards of directors is such that shareholders do not in fact have much influence. It can be seen from table 4.1 that the size of Japanese boards is much larger than in other countries. There are a handful of outside directors, but they have very little influence; the overwhelming majority of directors are from inside the company. Their numbers is such that they include many people in addition to the most senior members of management. The nominations of individuals for positions as a director are essentially controlled by the company’s CEO. This together with the unwieldy size of the board and its composition, means that CEOs hold tremendous power. Provided the financial position of a Japanese corporation is sound, it is essentially the CEO and those closest to him who control the company’s affairs.
I thought I should chime in to say that I very much like The London Cut, by which I mean the series of exhibitions promoting Savile Row, though The London Cut, and here I am writing about the style, is not really to my taste. The photo of James Sherwood, author of The London Cut, and here I am writing about the book, is illustrative of the style: a long, shaped jacket with narrow sleeves paired with narrow trousers. There is plenty of tie space that is filled with overly large, for my taste, neckties. The ties in particular may indicate the pending doom of the style as the Italians don't make them that wide any more and they were the principal supplier of four inchers.
Now this is not to disparage Mr. Sherwood by any means. He deserves all the credit in the world for supplying much of the energy required to get Savile Row promoting itself for the first time since the original Henry Poole was attracting the world's royalty to his shop. Indeed, Mr. Sherwood's efforts have been supported by formerly marketing-free firms like Anderson & Sheppard that make a style of clothing that is only loosely (pun intended) related to The London Cut style. But that just gives the The London Cut exhibitions a bit of additional support. Imagine if they had begun this thing fifty years ago - the tailors in and around Naples would be a pale shadow of themselves.
So good luck to them I say. The exhibitions I mean, rather than the style or the book. Not that I wish bad things on either of those. But the exhibitions are definitely worth the time should one pop up in a nearby city.

At that moment,at that very moment, the white lion came very close to the tiger. Relax, dummy! It's me, Osada.
As the traveller of the zodiac you should be in your element. Planets in the zone of far horizons could send you off to all four corners of the globe, or at least out of familiar territory. Then again, the theme of far horizons could apply to your future. Either way, the lunar eclipse of the 6th and aspects to Saturn and Uranus (11th, 17th, 19th and 21st ) could change the map. If you are travelling, anticipate some delays and general irritations, especially on or near the above dates, however, as you may know, when we make an effort we appreciate the result so much more... While there is much to enjoy from August's stars, don't turn a blind eye to any distress signals, whether they are emitted by friends, family or the bank! Come September you'll need to have stabilized one or more rocky situations, which means taking a pro-active approach in August. Talk to people, air problems and make sure you have back-up plans. Even if you don't need a safety net and even if September turns out to be a golden month, you'll have gained much from 'research and development' now. Mars will be moving through the area of partnership for much of the month, so don't expect other people to roll over for you. You'll be better off going along with their ideas and generally being very accommodating. On the other hand, if sex has been off the agenda for a little too long, get ready to boogy!
