[#1] Comfort Women Questions And Answers I don't understand why this issue was raised lately again. And It's been getting more and more complicated. So I'd like all viewers to review it, and know it well if you don't. It's fairly easy, very simple story. Question 1: What are the comfort women all about ? Let's put it this way. Answer 1: During world war 2 Japanese army and or govt organ organically abducted mostly Korean women, and forced them to be prostitutes and release soldiers' sexual frustrations. However govt didn't try to take any responsibility to that. That's all it is. But I wonder if it's true. Question 2: Then were Korean women really abducted with coercion ? Answer 2: Until now concrete grounds that prove abductions haven't been seen. It's very hard to prove what didn't acrually happen. But if an evidence of a fact hasn't been submitted, there would be nothing to blame for and or to accuse of. Then when we think whether there have been concrete evidences or not, we can't find anything. There has been no evidence. Question 3: Then what could be the evidences of this issue ? Answer 3: They are as follows: 1. Documents describing army and or authorities were involved with abductions 2. Proved victim's testimony 3. Proved criminal's testimony 4. Proved witness's testimony If only one of these evidences is submitted, we would admit the fact of this issue. Question 4: Is there any document that proves the fact ? Many people have been wondering why, but actually there is no such document. Answer4: This was clarified by ex-chief cabinet secretary Yohei Kono on Jun 17th 1997 where he stated the documents that proved abductions hadn't been found.
[#2] Then he had already been known for so called 'Kono statements' in that he had admitted the broad coercion on the prostitutes. Then, Question5: There should be a lot of victims' testimonies or mere commercial prostitution couldn't be like this big issue ? The answer is, Answer5: Japanese govt interviewed 16 ex-prostitutes for investigation, who had been selected by the Pacific War Victims Association but the govt didn't even try to validate or confirm the result of the investigation. At this point everyone may feel strange that Japanese govt didn't select them by itself, but anti-Japan Korean entity did. That's to say the first step of the investigation was biased. Moreover the govt tried to make the investigation spontaneous leaving the result not validated or confirmed. To make matters worse, ex-lawyer Mizuho Fukushima et al were present there, and none of testimonies' names and interview contents has been given out. It's hard to think that we can get proved evidences through such an irresponsible investigation. The innovative lawyers, calling themselves witnesses, controled the victims' talks so they were able to prevent the govt from getting useful information for a validation. Those witnesses were afraid that the victims could speak too much and give the govt information possibly leading to undesirable result. That's why they had to lead testimonies as they wanted when answering the questions. And besides the govt itself weren't unmotivated for that investigation. Despite numbers of testimonies they got, from only 16 victims though, it's ovbious every single testimony wasn't the proved one. Then what about Korean side ?
[#3] There were 155 women who registered as ex-prostitutes. 74 among them were alive in 1992 and a citizen group called the Council for Measure of the Issue of South Korean Volunteer Corps, this name itself contains misconception, have 55 women as registrants. The council was able to get in touch with about 40 women among these 55 and interviewed them. Then it published the result of interviews as the testimony collection and that was translated in Japanese. Korean Foreign Ministry assured the book covered all facts of the comfort women. Since then the book has been the powerful card for Koreans. The detail investigations were done with this book later and even the Korean citizen group found a lot of conflicts, omissions, errors and distortions. Actually in the book were only 19 womens' testimonies. The story is, among all registrated Korean ex-prostitutes who were alive, there were about 40 women the citizen group was able to get in touch. Since they found what many of those women said were completely wrong, they came to know the testimonies weren't at all reliable enough to be published. Thus they had to get rid of more than half of the testimonies. As the result there were only 19 women among all, whose testimonies were identified as the facts. But there were only 4 women whose testimonies were identified as the facts of coerced abductoins. You know what, 2 of them said they were taken to brothels in Toyama and Busan, where brothels weren't installed, in other words enough validation wasn't done by Korean side. These women should have been removed from the victim registrants. Only 2 women were left as real victims, they are Kim Haksoon and Moon Okchu. But the fact was, Kim's mother sold her in 40yen as a prostitute called kiseng.
[#4] Moon was deceived by a Korean calling himself Sung who told her to work in a restaurant, and she was forced to be a prostitute in Burma. After all they weren't coerced prostitutes either. But being pointed out of their testimonies later, they changed their testimonies. A changed testimony isn't trustworthy at all. That's all about this issue. How do you think ? There has been no victim's reliable testimony. None of all registered ex-prostitutes' testimonies hasn't been reliable at all. (end)

30,000 Korean Women Sell Sex in Japan 03-28-2007 About 30,000 Korean women are working as prostitutes in Japan, a lawmaker said on Tuesday. Rep. Park Jae-wan of the largest opposition Grand National Party has researched online communities that link entertainment places and people for the past six months and found that 40,000 to 60,000 illegal Korean emigrants reside in Japan. Among them, about 30,000 Korean women work in the sex trade. It isn't only women who move to Japan for the sex business. Many young Korean men have also gone to Japan to work as prostitutes, he said. Some of the brokers bragged about being a gigolo in Japan, saying that they can guarantee 10 million won in income per month along with Japanese language learning opportunity. Park said that there are more than 70 online communities at a portal site serving as middlemen for prostitutes and their clients, and among them, more than 41 were actively working. Though serving as a middleman for prostitutes is strictly prohibited in Korea, the online world has found ways to sneak past the authorities. One of the postings mentioned that all the workers at the clubs and bars are Koreans and 90 percent of the visitors are Japanese. It said that the job itself does not pay well but it can connect the worker with wealthy men who would offer big money in exchange for sex. Those who apply for the jobs are sent not only to Shinzuku, Akasaka and Ginza in Tokyo but also to Osaka or Kobe, or even some rural areas.
In addition, many Korean women are said to be visiting Japan on forged passports, identification cards or driving licenses.

Tony Blair refused to bow to demands to apologise for Britain's role in the slave trade yesterday, expressing instead "deep sorrow and regret" for the suffering it caused.
Britain's first black archbishop, Dr John Sentamu, had earlier joined calls for the Prime Minister to "go a bit further" than such expressions of regret.
But Mr Blair - in a video message recorded for a major event in Ghana to mark the 200th anniversary of Britain passing a slavery abolition law - stopped short of a full apology.

*The Japanese eat dolphins (endangered species) for sushi & sashimi.
*They bleed dolphins for slow & excruciatingly PAINFUL death (lasting up to 10 min.) because when the body is in pain, it releases adrenaline, which makes the meat more tasty.
*They love to eat raw horse meat, so they do the same thing to millions of horses. (Many of the horses are stolen pets from Europe & US)

Well, this is a famous Korean method used by Korean to cook "dogs". Many things which Korean claim that it's Japanese did it, are actually done by Korean themselves. Watch the video clip on Youtube "Korean says I'm Japanese". Or search the words "Korean TV show: If you do something bad while traveling abroad, pretend you’re Japanese! (Video)" on Google.
Kai Ping Liu, editor at the Chinese-language the World Journal in San Francisco, says the apology is not enough. “Japan’s imperial forces killed more than 35 million Chinese over the course of eight years, atrocities that should never be forgotten.” He says if Japan is sincere in its regret, it should sponsor the construction of a memorial to the victims of Japanese aggression similar to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
Tae Soo Jung, editor at the Korean-language daily Korea Times in Oakland, questions the timing of Abe’s apology. He says it reflects Japan’s overwhelming concern with Western opinion and its disregard of the opinion of neighboring Asian countries. “Abe’s actions seem to be a gesture towards the West to avoid bad press there more than a sincere apology to Japan’s neighbors.” Like Liu, Jung says more needs to be done, including the payment of reparations and the revision of Japanese history textbooks that currently omit the country’s wartime past.
Seattle resident Chizu Omori, a columnist for Nichi Bei, said because most of the surviving victims are in their 80s and 90s, Japanese politicians believe time is on their side. “They think the problem will just go away in a few years,” she says, “but they are misjudging the temper of the times.”

The photos, taken by a Swiss photographer near Shanghai in 1937, all depict the brutality of Chinese soldiers toward Japanese prisoners and Shanghai residents accused of helping the Japanese as they began their military conquest of China. "They enjoyed it," Simmen said. "They (were) waiting for the head to get cut off, then they took the head and played football ... I mean that was a terrible thing." Simmen's father told him that the Chinese soldiers used a variety of torture methods on prisoners, including suspending them in wooden cages by the neck until they died of starvation.

USA have been the cause of so much modern world grief.. To compare the savagery of USA to japan is very silly.
Heres some reasons USA is by far the most aggresive nation of modern times.
Massive war crimes in Vietnam war. Destruction of democracy in Chile. The USA supported the military junta in Greece 1967-1974. Total support for Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Support for Pol Pot genocide. Colonization of Hawaii. Training of terrorists in Latin America. Funding, weapons and training for Nicaraguan terrorists. Support for Indonesian massacre of Chinese. Support for Indonesian invasion and massacre of East Timor.
President Clinton ordered the bombing of a Sudanese pharmaceuticals factory, thinking erroneously that it was for producing some sort of armaments. Several hundred people were killed in this. Then the USA put trade restrictions on Sudan so that pharmaceuticals could not be imported. As a result, since that time many tens of thousands of additional people have died of malaria because that factory was producing anti-malaria drugs. This crime in itself was much more serious than the 2001-9-11 suicide hijacking
How about some illegal USA invasions. (lauching aggresive war is worst of the warcrimes declared by the Geneva convention) How about USA invasions...
Invasion of Haiti Invasion of Panama Invasion of Grenada Attempted invasion of Cuba Killing thousands of innocent poor Afghans
As for WW2. Participation in the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of civilians in terrorist attacks on Germany in the Second World War
First use of nuclear weapons in Japan in WW2.
The USA fire-bombed Tokyo, killing hundreds of thousands of civilians, simply with the intention of terrorising the population. This is a serious war crime. Both during WW2 and ever since then, the US government has openly expressed and followed a doctrine of mass murder of civilians as a means to demoralize the enemy and minimize their own losses. The Geneva convention was supposed to outlaw this.
The world has changed alot since USA became a superpower due to WW2 profits and the invent of Nukes.
In 2002/2003, the USA's very clever propaganda organisations have come up with a new euphemism for naked aggression. Now they're calling it pre-emptive military action. The US Americans are experts in language abuse. It used to be taken for granted that the country which attacks first is the guilty party. This approach had the advantage that if no one wants to be the first to attack, then no one will ever attack. So outlawing aggression has the effect of minimizing war. Now the USA has changed that with the new doctrine of pre-emptive war. Since the USA is the leader of the world, all countries in the world will now conclude that they can conduct a pre-emptive action with justification.
I could go on but i wont...Some food for thought for those that believe USA is about freedom.. Wake up USA is the most aggresive nation since the Romans
The USDA, FDA, and FTC need to make sure that labels include country of origin for ingrediants as well as finished products.
People are wise to avoid ALL Chinese made or grown foodstuffs, whether raw ingrediants or finished products, imported from China. They have absolutely no food safety, labeling, or environmental protection laws or enforcement there. They use the most poisonous fertilizers and pesticides, and often outright lie on their labels, often substituting entirely different products for what it says it is on the label.
Japanese people have known this for years due to outbreaks of illness and death from foods and ingrediants imported from China. Only the poorest people will buy Chinese foodstuffs in Japan.
For a Communist country, they have adopted the worst traits of capitalism, surpassing even the robber barons of our own industrial revolution.
I may not be able to avoid buying some Chinese hard goods. But, I will not knowingly feed Chinese foodstuffs to me animals or my loved ones. Period. http://petsitusa.com/blog/?p=232

Q: Red Sox or Yankees? A: I don’t really know anything about baseball.
Q: Do you have a boyfriend? If not, who would you want to be your boyfriend? A: I am too busy skating to think about stuff like that.
Q: A question about whether she has been asked while training in the U.S. about the bad things Japan did in the past and Prime Minister Abe’s statements. A: Everyone in America has been very friendly to her.
Q: What is your long term target/goal? A: I want to be able to speak English.
Was the reporter seriously expecting her to comment on the history issue?
Although sakura trees were already indigenous to Korea, other sakura trees were planted in Korea before World War II by Japanese colonizers in locations that Koreans found to be offensive such as sites where ancient palaces once stood, like Gyeongbokgung palace. Most of these trees were later cut down and removed by the locals as they represented Japan's imperial ambitions in Korea, but areas where sakura had been blossoming for millennia were left alone.

China's "turnaround" on Darfur links to Spielberg: report Hindu, India - Apr 13, 2007 New York, April 14 (PTI): China's latest attempts to pressurise Sudan to allow UN peacekeepers in Darfur is partly a result of the efforts of Hollywood actor Mia Farrow and film-maker Stephen Spielberg, a report has said.
China, which had so far been reluctant to pressurise Sudan on Darfur, did a "turnaround" after Stephen Spielberg requested its President Hu Jintao to use his influence in the region in a letter, the Times reported. http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/003200704140324.htm

原文はこれみたい The 'Genocide Olympics' By Ronan Farrow and Mia Farrow Word Count: 594 "One World, One Dream" is China's slogan for its 2008 Olympics. But there is one nightmare that China shouldn't be allowed to sweep under the rug. That nightmare is Darfur, where more than 400,000 people have been killed and more than two-and-a-half million driven from flaming villages by the Chinese-backed government of Sudan. That so many corporate sponsors want the world to look away from that atrocity during the games is bad enough. But equally disappointing is the decision of artists like director Steven Spielberg -- who quietly visited China this month as he prepares to help stage the Olympic ceremonies -- to sanitize Beijing's image. Is Mr. Spielberg, who in 1994 founded the Shoah Foundation to record the testimony of survivors of the holocaust, aware that China is bankrolling Darfur's genocide?
China is pouring billions of dollars into Sudan. Beijing purchases an overwhelming majority of Sudan's annual oil exports and state-owned China National Petroleum Corp. -- an official partner of the upcoming Olympic Games -- owns the largest shares in each of Sudan's two major oil consortia. The Sudanese government uses as much as 80% of proceeds from those sales to fund its brutal Janjaweed proxy militia and purchase their instruments of destruction: bombers, assault helicopters, armored vehicles and small arms, most of them of Chinese manufacture. Airstrips constructed and operated by the Chinese have been used to launch bombing campaigns on villages. And China has used its veto power on the U.N. Security Council to repeatedly obstruct efforts by the U.S. and the U.K. to introduce peacekeepers to curtail the slaughter.
As one of the few players whose support is indispensable to Sudan, China has the power to, at the very least, insist that Khartoum accept a robust international peacekeeping force to protect defenseless civilians in Darfur. Beijing is uniquely positioned to put a stop to the slaughter, yet they have so far been unabashed in their refusal to do so.
But there is now one thing that China may hold more dear than their unfettered access to Sudanese oil: their successful staging of the 2008 Summer Olympics. That desire may provide a lone point of leverage with a country that has otherwise been impervious to all criticism.
Whether that opportunity goes unexploited lies in the hands of the high-profile supporters of these Olympic Games. Corporate sponsors like Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola, General Electric and McDonalds, and key collaborators like Mr. Spielberg, should be put on notice. For there is another slogan afoot, one that is fast becoming viral amongst advocacy groups; rather than "One World, One Dream," people are beginning to speak of the coming "Genocide Olympics." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB117505109799351409.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mia-and-ronan-farrow/the-genocide-olympics_b_44476.html
Is `Compassionate Liberalism' an Oxymoron?: Andrew Ferguson By Andrew Ferguson
30 Percent More
But what really astounded him was the amount of giving: In 2000, he says, conservative households gave 30 percent more money to charity than liberal households.
The discrepancy wasn't a function of income; on average, liberal families annually earn 6 percent more than conservative families. The difference in giving held throughout every income level. Indeed, poor conservative families gave a larger percentage of income than wealthy liberal families.

Milan police in Chinatown clash By David Willey BBC News, Rome
About 10 police officers were injured and a similar number of Chinese people received hospital treatment. The trouble began when a Chinese woman was fined for illegally transporting goods in a private vehicle.
More than 100 Chinese shopkeepers and members of their families, many waving the national flag, massed in the street claiming racial discrimination.
Baton charge
During the unrest, which lasted until nightfall, a car was overturned and the police carried out a baton charge. The woman was arrested and later admitted to hospital.
The Chinese immigrant community in Italy has grown very rapidly during the past 10 years. Normally, they keep a very low profile and cause little trouble to the authorities.
According to official statistics, there are about 114,000 Chinese currently living in Italy, but the true figure is probably double this number because of widespread illegal immigration.
In Milan alone, the resident Chinese population has more than doubled to about 12,000 in about 10 years. Other cities with a large Chinese community include the capital, Rome, and Prato, in Tuscany, where Chinese workers are employed in the textile dyeing industry.
In Rome and Milan wholesale distributors of goods made in China occupy entire quarters of the two cities. It was the noise and traffic caused by these businesses which sparked off the rioting in Milan. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6550725.stm

Tonga announces the expulsion of hundreds of Chinese immigrants By John Braddock 18 December 2001 The tiny Pacific kingdom of Tonga began moves last month to expel hundreds of its Chinese residents who are victims of a recent wave of ethnic violence. More than 600 Chinese storekeepers and their families are being given a year to leave once their work permits expire.
Police in the capital, Nuku’alofa, say there have been about 100 cases of assault, armed robbery, burglary and arson of Chinese-owned shops involving Tongans. The Chinese Embassy in Tonga has expressed concern about the level of violence against its nationals.
Chinese residents make up about 3,000 to 4,000 of Tonga’s population of 100,000. Fewer than 1,000 are shopkeepers. Nevertheless, the chief immigration officer, Susana Fotu, claims that the expulsions are in response to “widespread anger at the growing presence of the storekeepers” and the fear that the Chinese will come to dominate the economy. http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/dec2001/tong-d18.shtml
U.S. Police May Have Identity of Virginia Tech Gunman
Authorities are investigating whether the shooter was a 24- year-old Chinese national who arrived in San Francisco on a United Airlines flight on Aug. 7 last year on a student visa issued in Shanghai, the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper reported on its Web site, citing an unidentified official. Jennifer Galt, a spokeswoman for the U.S. consulate in Shanghai, declined to comment.

Gunman Identified as Massacre at Virginia Tech Enters Second Day
By RICHARD ESPOSITO and DAVID SCHOETZ
April 17, 2007 ? Seung Hui Cho, a permanent resident of the United States, a Korean national and a Virginia Tech student has been identified as the gunman in the shootings that left 33 people dead on the Virginia Tech campus Monday, ABC News has learned.
The student left a "disturbing note" before killing two people in a dorm room, returning to his own room to re-arm and entering a classroom building on the other side of campus to continue his rampage, sources said.
Cho's identitiy has been confirmed with a positive fingerprint match on the guns used in the rampage and with immigration materials. It is believed that he was the shooter in both incidents yesterday. Sources say Cho was carrying a backpack that contained receipts for a March purchase of a Glock 9 mm pistol, sources said. Witnesses had also told authorities that the shooter was carrying a backpack. Sections of chain similar to those used to lock the main doors at Norris Hall, the site of the second shooting that left 31 dead, were found inside a Virginia Tech dormitory, sources confirmed to ABC News.

Here is the text of President George W. Bush's statement today from the White House on the Virginia Tech shootings:
Our nation is shocked and saddened by the news of the shootings (committed by a Korean student, Cho Seung-Hui,) at Virginia Tech today. The exact toll has not yet been confirmed, but it appears that more than 30 people were killed and many more were wounded (by a Korean student).
I have spoken with Gov. Tim Kaine and Virginia Tech President Charles Steger. I told them that Laura and I and many across our nation are praying for the victims and their families and all the members of the university community who have been devastated by this terrible tragedy (committed by a Korean student).
I told them that my administration would do everything possible to assist with the investigation and that I pledged that we would stand ready to help local law enforcement and the local community in any way we can during this time of sorrow. Schools should be places of safety and sanctuary and learning. When that sanctuary is violated, the impact is felt in every American classroom and every American community.
Today our nation grieves with those who have lost loved ones at Virginia Tech. We hold the victims (killed by a Korean) in our hearts, we lift them up in our prayers, and we ask a loving God to comfort those who are suffering today.

*Hwabyung 火病 Examining Anger in 'Culture-Bound' Syndromes by Sandra L. Somers Psychiatric Times "Hwa-byung" and "ataque de nervios," listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) as culture-bound syndromes, can serve as gateways to understanding anger's role in psychiatric morbidity, according to a panel of experts.
Christopher K. Chung, M.D., assistant professor and director of psychiatric emergency services at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, Calif., who chaired a symposium on hwa-byung and anger syndromes at the American Psychiatric Association last year, described the *Korean phenomenon of hwa-byung (literally, fire disease) as "more specifically, suppressed anger syndrome." He said there was not a consensus as to whether the syndrome should be classified as culture-bound.
The Korean Perspective Hwa-byung is more frequently found in less-educated people, those of lower socioeconomic status and those from rural areas. I am disappointed, and there can be a thing feeling it by this shooting rampage. The Korean student was familiar with a hero if I did shooting rampage at a Japanese university. I was familiar with a hero handed down like the Ahn Joong Keun that shot Hirobumi Ito to death eternally in Korea. Japan takes 1,000,000 Korean life with colonial rule and an aggressive war and charity dame-related slave. When I shot it to death, and 30 people compare it with the Japanese crime that they committed by shooting rampage, there is too too little it. It is certain that the Korean student was received as a hero by Korea if this shooting rampage happened in Japan without committing suicide. Of the Korean student who failed to become a hero pray its soul may rest in peace.
Cho Seung-hui's Roommates Say They Barely Knew Him
Cho once claimed he had a supermodel girlfriend who he named Jelly. She called him "Spanky." It was all a figment of his disturbed mind.
Karan Grewal, another of Cho's roommates, saw Cho in the bathroom on the morning of the rampage. He was standing in the bathroom in his boxer shorts, brushing his teeth. Grewal said good morning. Cho didn't answer.
"Nothing seemed out of the ordinary," Grewal said.
The young men who shared his suite all felt that Cho was odd. But what they didn't know was that his disturbing behavior was well known to college authorities.
Cops say two female students complained last year that Cho was harassing them and he was taken to the campus counseling center after he threatened to commit suicide. He was later committed to a mental institution. His roommates had no idea. http://www.insideedition.com/ourstories/inside_stories/story.aspx?storyid=733

I spotted the messages from the Korean government this morning in the Washington Post that warned of Americans discriminating against all Koreans because of this kid. Quite frankly, such race-baiting makes them the racists, not us. Their nation is based on the Korean race, ours is based on principles of freedom. When the Koreans accept other races as citizens as easily as we accept Koreans, then they’ll have the moral authority to make such accusations.

Gunman accused of sending women 'annoying' messages Blacksburg, Va. -- Authorities disclosed Wednesday that more than a year before the Virginia Tech massacre, Cho Seung-Hui was accused of sending unwanted phone calls and computer messages to two women. Most Koreans don't regard Cho Seung-Hui as a "typical Korean" since he spent the bulk of his life immersed in American culture. Still, a collective sense of regret and guilt was palpable today due to the strong tendency of Koreans to perceive the tragedy in terms of Korean nationalism, in which the group trumps the individual. "It's a notion of collective responsibility," says Mike Breen, the author of The Koreans. When a Korean does something wonderful, the country rejoices, but when one of its own goes off the rails, like Cho Seung-Hui, there's a collective sense of shame and burden. So much so that South Korea's Ambassador to the U.S., Lee Tae Shik, pledged to fast for 32 days to show his sorrow today. "I can smell a collective sense of guilt," says Lim Jie-Hyun, a history professor at Hangyang University in Seoul. "There is confusion [in Korea] between individual responsibility and national responsibility."
中略 This kind of nationalistic response can have an opposite effect as well ? when the roles are reversed. In 2002, when two U.S soldiers accidentally ran over two schoolgirls with a tank north of Seoul, anti-American sentiment was widespread in Korea. Some restaurants even hung signboards reading "No Americans" rather than "No Soldiers Allowed." For weeks, thousands of Koreans staged protests against American soldiers, while some Korean media even suggested that the girl's deaths could have been deliberate.

The Human-Rights Mafia by Eric Johnston Last year Osaka was the scene of one of the biggest news events in Japan in the past three decades. At first sight, it was nothing dramatic: merely the arrest of an elderly gentleman named Kunihiko Konishi on fraud charges. But the fallout from the arrest has led to a gradual breakdown of one of Japanese journalism’ s last great taboos: Japan’s hereditary outcasts, the buraku.
Before his arrest, Konishi was considered by his supporters to be a paragon of the Osaka and Kansai community, a man who had spent his life working for the human rights of others. No scruffy leftwing activist shouting on the fringes of society he, but a wealthy political insider who dined regularly with Diet members, local politicians, senior police officials, and major enka singers.
But Konishi led a double life. By day, he was the head of an Osaka social-welfare foundation known for its active pursuit of human-rights issues and for providing employment for its buraku members through deep connections to Osaka City Hall. He was also the head of a local chapter of the Buraku Liberation League (BLL), which was set up to promote buraku rights.
But by night, Konishi was a member of the Yamaguchi-gumi, a fact known to police and local journalists but never reported. And not just any senior member, but one of its most influential, a man who played an indirect role in not one but two of the gang’s most notorious incidents.

The Use and Abuse of the Past By Hideaki Kase Newsweek International
History is a hot topic in Japan these days, with the country's wartime behavior returning to haunt its citizens. Many Japanese are dismayed by the possibility that the U.S. House of Representatives will soon demand a formal apology from Tokyo for the imperial military's alleged use of "comfort women," or sex slaves, during World War II. This talk has taken the Japanese government by surprise, especially given its unprecedented support for Washington in Iraq and the war onterrorism.
The world can't comprehend why Japan is reluctant to say sorry once more. But most Japanese can't understand why issues like the comfort women or the Nanking Massacre have resurfaced at all. Since World War II, the country has abided by the pacifism forced on it by the U.S. occupation. To promote such peacefulness, the Japanese media and intellectuals created an image of Japan as a warlike place that had to be prevented from rearming at all costs. To heighten the danger, the media also exaggerated or even invented wretched acts supposedly committed by Japan's imperial forces.
In the first years after the nation's surrender in 1945, many of its citizens found this imposed meekness hard to take. In 1952, for example, the Diet unanimously called for the men convicted by the Allied war-criminal trials to be treated the same as those honorably killed or injured on the battlefield. Half of Japan's then population signed petitions calling for the immediate release of incarcerated war criminals, and the major political parties of the day refused to accept any war guilt. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17770834/site/newsweek/
Koreans actually lack in confidence so they very easily become sensitive and defensive when they hear honest criticism against their nationalism. I think having pride in their nation is pretty nice but Koreans' behavior is often very extreme and over emotional.
And that has been true for a long time and will change nothing. Koreans are very self-centered people in general, although they like being called warm-hearted and proud people.
You had everything you wanted. Your Google Earth and Yahoo Map weren’t enough, you brats. Those weren’t enough to fulfill your hedonistic needs. You had everything.

He was born Kim Sung Jong in 1952 to Korean parents in Osaka. His father was a poor immigrant who built himself a fortune in taxis, property and pachinko, the addictive Japanese version of bagatelle. At 15, Kim Sung Jong was sent to the preparatory school for the private and prestigious Keio University in Tokyo. There he studied politics and law. It was at this time that he underwent surgery on his eyes to make them larger and less oriental, and he took on a new, Japanese name, Seisho Hoshiyama. When Seisho was 17, his father died in Hong Kong. Seisho shared the vast inheritance with his two brothers and, at the age of 21, underwent another shift of identity, taking on Japanese nationality and the name of Joji Obara. 【The Time August 17, 2005】

Born Kim Sung Jong in 1952 to poor Korean parents in Osaka, he had inherited with his two brothers the enormous fortune his family eventually made in pachinko parlours ? Japan's garish, noisy equivalent of Australia's poker machine rooms ? at the age of 17, when his father died in Hong Kong.
While studying politics and law at the prestigious Keio University in Tokyo, he took on a new, Japanese name - Seisho Hoshiyama - to hide his ethnic heritage, changing it again to Joji Obara when he turned 21. The only photo of him in public circulation, a fuzzy black-and-white picture from the early 1970s, was taken shortly afterwards.

In the mid-80s, when Japan's skyrocketing land and stock prices launched the economy into the stratosphere, property speculators like Obara were feted as national heroes. Many enjoyed extravagant lifestyles and some behaved as though their wealth should guarantee them access to anything they desired, including tall, elegant western women.

Tech gunman shot victims over 100 times By KRISTEN GELINEAU, Associated Press Writer Mon Apr 23, 3:02 AM ET BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho was as mysterious in death as he was in life, leaving behind few clues for medical examiners. Dr. William Massello, the assistant state medical examiner based in Roanoke, said Sunday that Cho died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his temple after firing enough shots to wound his 32 victims more than 100 times.
I then started walking toward the Kyobo Book Store, but within seconds of leaving the hotel, a Korean man approached me from behind, flashed an identification card and said in English that he worked for Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS). He then asked to see my ID card. When I asked him why, he told me that they had a report that a Caucasian man was selling drugs in the area.
I visited the House of Sharing - a government-sponsored establishment for former comfort women and I translated the testimony of one of the women living there. I have been unable to forget this experience. Japan's failure to acknowledge its war crimes is a hurdle in establishing good relations with its neighbours She told us how she was sold by her step-father, ←ここです。 え?おばあちゃん義理のお父さんに売られたんじゃん。 強制じゃないじゃん・・・ how brutally she was beaten and raped by soldiers ←慰安所に売られたのに、レイプなんですかね? and how she was later rejected by society, including her own family. ←これは日本関係なくない?
Obara was born Kim Sung Jong in 1952. His parents were Korean immigrants, considered second-class citizens in Japan, but they worked hard and his father became wealthy though property and a series of taxi businesses.

Why do the international reputation of the Japanese people have to be ruined by a chon? (NB: "Chon" is a highly racist term for Koreans). Prostitutes, Traffickers Abusing Australian Visa Rules Apr.25,2007 On September 25, a Korean cram school instructor left for Australia with a "working holiday" visa. The working holiday visa is available to people between 18 and 30 from certain countries including South Korea who want to visit Australia and supplement their travel funds through incidental employment. A broker had told the instructor that she could learn English and make money by working in a restaurant, but when she arrived in Australia she was forced into prostitution in a Chinese-run brothel in New South Wales.
The brothel manager took the instructor's passport and visa and forced her to service customers until she paid off a "debt" of US$20,000 (US$1=W928). On October 14, the instructor took a day off due to menstruation and managed to contact the local police and escape.
Police here say that Australia's working holiday visa rules are increasingly abused by Koreans going overseas for prostitution. Recently Seoul Metropolitan Police indicted without detention three traffickers who had sent 89 Korean women including college students to red-light districts in Australia.
While some of the trafficked women were duped liked the instructor, many knew exactly what they were getting into. "Ms. H" was one of them. H left Seoul for Australia on a working holiday visa after she saw an online advertisement that promised wages of up to W4 million a month for working in "bars." H ended up in a saloon for Koreans in Sydney. http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200704/200704250020.html
"The suspicion of international contamination is eerily similar to past incidents in China," Barton said. "A dozen years ago, 89 children in Haiti died after taking cough medicine made with, believe it or not, poisonous antifreeze that was traced back to China.
The world never got an answer from the Chinese on how this crime occurred.
"In an investigation started in 1998 when I was the chairman of this subcommittee, we found that 155 Americans were sickened by impure gentamicin sulfate made by a Chinese firm," Barton continued. "We never got a definitive answer on how this unapproved, impure drug ingredient got into that particular product."
"My message, and I think the message of this subcommittee on a bipartisan basis, to the Chinese government is plain: stop these shenanigans," Barton said.
Student group 'supplied agents' / Women became N. Korean operatives after involvement in group
A student organization under the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), which was searched Wednesday in connection with the abduction of two children, allegedly was the source of personnel for North Korean agents, sources said.
Two women, believed to have been involved in abductions, joined a company allegedly used as a front for operations by North Korean agents, after being involved in activities at the Korean Student League in Japan, the sources said. http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national/20070426TDY02007.htm
A national broadsheet recently came up with an editorial against Japan and the Philippine government. It said that Filipino comfort women were asking for official apology from the Japanese government, not for the atrocities of the Japanese occupation forces in general but for the plight of these women sex slaves.
Just for the record, Japan has fulfilled all its obligations to other nations, including the Philippines, on the issues of war reparations, property and other claims as attested to by the 1951 San Francisco Peace Treaty, to which the Philippines is a signatory, and other relevant treaties including the Reparations Agreement between the Philippines and Japan.
It is also on record that Japan former Prime Minister Murayama made a statement?stemming from a Cabinet decision?on Aug. 15, 1995 which expressed heartfelt apology by the Japanese government in regard to what it had done in the past.
The prime minister expressed his “feelings of deep remorse and… heartfelt apology to other countries,” including the Philippines. And this apology has been followed by succeeding Japan prime ministers.
On the issue of comfort women, which even now and then crops up with some misguided elements led by militants demonstrating in front of the Japanese embassy, it is on record that Japan has fulfilled its obligations, and that the case of comfort women is now closed.
Asked "Why did you emigrate to America?" in the 1970s, when I worked as a correspondent in the U.S., nine out of 10 ordinary Korean migrants replied they did so to provide a good education for their children. Korean parents, at home or abroad, devote themselves so much to the education of their children that international institutions like the International Monetary Fund and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development cite Korea's enthusiasm for education as a reason for its economic growth. They told their children, "Study hard and live a prosperous life to resolve the bitterness we experienced because we were too poor to study."
But the results we saw were not necessarily desirable. Once the children go to American schools, everything else will fall into place, the thinking went. Being unable to speak English, most working-class emigrants could not even think of meeting their children’s teachers. Even if they were able to communicate in English, they were too busy earning a living to go to parent-teacher meetings. The children led their lives apart from their parents and roamed the streets. Living in blue-collar neighborhoods, the schools the children attended were often prone to crime and offered a poor educational environment. Not all of them, of course, but the children of many Korean emigrants, lived lives without pride or community consciousness, and eventually ended up on the wrong side of the tracks. In the end, many Koreans who went to America for the sake of their children's education saw their children ruined by it instead.
The case of Seung-hui Cho, who shot dead 32 people at Virginia Tech, is in a way part of the negative journey of the children of working-class emigrants, though in his case mental illness played a major part. The world Cho aspired to was circumscribed, as his manifesto shows, by “Benz,” “vodka”, “cognac” and “diamonds.” He essentially had no sense that vastly more people in this world never get to go to college at all. That shows the limitations of the education in the “humanities” he got, and these limitations in the end exploded through the muzzle of a gun. This, too, is the cold reality bred by the wealth gap. It shows that even at the moment when we feel a sense of pride in many 1.5 and second-generation Koreans who have achieved their American dream, there is in the U.S. another group of Koreans who fall through the net.
This renews the appeal of the advice Kim Yu-mi, who has taught English as a second language in the U.S. for 25 years, offered in a recent interview with the Chosun Ilbo. What is the point of letting your children learn only English? She demanded of Korean mothers. The children have no cultural education or manners, she said, and that way they can’t dream of getting into college, or if they do, global businesses won’t hire them when they graduate. Global corporations increasingly judge applicants by putting them up in a hotel for a week and assessing their general social standards while they eat, watch sports, appreciate opera and plays, and mingle in nightclubs, she pointed out.
It has been a long time since universities were regarded as educating the whole man or woman. Universities have largely become businesses, both in terms of quantity and quality. They are merely places where subjects are taught to a higher level; they can no longer produce a rounded human being. In that respect, the U.S. and Korea are much the same. In this country, of course, we can hardly expect it to be otherwise, seeing as the government lists all seats of higher learning as if they were so many vocational training centers.
Human nature is nurtured in the home and in the process of primary education. Children learn from their parents, friends and teachers. If we look around us, we find that teaching the children the values of trusting and loving the family, respecting elders and observing etiquette toward them, being honest and strict with themselves, considering friends and neighbors and refraining from causing them trouble is sidelined by after-school classes in math and essay writing. Too many youngsters live only for themselves, have no regard for others in the street, in restaurants, in traffic, in theaters and public spaces. How many homes are there where grace is said before and after meals? "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten," was the title of a book by Robert Fulghum many years ago. The title resonates more than ever.
All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sand pile at school.
These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some. Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that. Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we. And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK. Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living.
Take any one of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult terms and apply it to your family life or your work or government or your world and it holds true and clear and firm. Think what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world - had cookies and milk at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap. Or if all governments had as a basic policy to always put things back where they found them and to clean up their own mess.
And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out in the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.

Of those, about 80,000 are pro-North, while 220,000 support South Korea and the rest are neutral, Korea experts say

Police: Cho fired 170 shots in 9 minutes April 26. 2007 8:00AM
The massacre inside a chained-shut Norris Hall went on for nine minutes as Seung-Hui Cho fired off 170 rounds, killing 30 people before shooting himself in the head, the police said yesterday. But they said investigators still don't know why Cho launched the bloody attack on his fellow students at Virginia Tech.
"We talk about possible motives and theories and whatnot, but we don't have any evidence to suggest anything," said State Police Superintendent Col. Steven Flaherty.
He said investigators had searched computer files, cell phone records and e-mails, and had compiled 500 piece of evidence from Norris Hall alone.
Memorial stone for Virginia Tech gunman disappears, then re-emerges 08:17 AM EDT on Thursday, April 26, 2007 The 33rd stone was added at about 4 a.m. Thursday, Johnson said.
Cho's stone was gone by Monday morning, and was replaced by a small American flag. On Wednesday morning, there were 33 stones again.
This time, the 33rd was on the far left, unmarked, and slightly apart from the others. It was adorned with tributes similar to those on the other memorials: flowers, candles and beads in maroon and orange.
Asians on edge after Virginia deaths 12:00 AM CDT on Thursday, April 26, 2007 The Asian American Journalists Association put out a media advisory stating that race should be used as an identifier in stories only when it is pertinent. After the advisory was issued, the group's national office received more than 100 e-mails, letters and calls ? most of them negative, according to Janice Lee, the association's deputy executive director.
"Some accused us of being racists," she said.(中略)
A few Korean churches have reported receiving threatening e-mails.
Reports of Asian students receiving threatening messages, being spat upon or having their car tires slashed are trickling in from different parts of the country. One Asian student in Alabama was badly beaten last week, but it's not clear whether that attack was related to the Virginia Tech shootings.

China Expels 5 American Protesters" By SCOTT McDONALD Associated Press Writer BEIJING China said Friday it has expelled five Americans who staged a protest against the Olympics on Mount Everest to challenge Chinese rule over the mountainous region.
The five unfurled banners at a base camp of the world's highest mountain on the eve of an announcement of the Olympic torch route for next summer's Olympic Games calling for an independent Tibet.
The Foreign Ministry said the five were detained for "carrying out illegal activities aimed at splitting China" and that they had been expelled according to Chinese law. An official for their group, Students for a Free Tibet, originally said four people were detained, but later said a fifth person who was transporting videotape also had been held.
Spies and Sighs: How China Watches Taiwan By WENDELL MINNICK, TAIPEI The news that China used a computer virus to steal files from a Taiwanese colonel’s home computer has stirred a debate over the island nation’s ability to protect its secrets and its independence from Beijing, its geographic neighbor, economic partner and diplomatic rival. Lin Chong-Pin, former vice minister of defense, argues that the recent hacker incident is part of a larger effort to subdue Taiwan. “China has established a massive ‘net army’ by recruiting young talent,” said Lin, now president of the Foundation on International and Cross-Strait Studies, based here. “This is a proactive implementation of Beijing’s concept on information warfare. It materializes the spirit of ‘the three wars,’ which the People’s Liberation Army enunciated in December 2003 in its ‘decree on the political work.’ They are psychological war, the legal war and the media war.” Chinese progress in this three-front advance has dampened fears of a military invasion, but cast doubts on Taiwan’s economic and political ability to stay separate. Taiwanese students attend Chinese universities and Taiwanese businessmen and even legislators invest in and own Chinese businesses. Hundreds of thousands of Taiwanese have moved to the mainland, where communities have created Taiwanese schools, banks and restaurants. And as contacts between mainlanders and islanders grow, so do the opportunities for Chinese intelligence officials to exploit them.
“China seeks to rapidly ‘colonize’ Taiwan covertly through implanting of agents, cultivation of agents of influence, ensnaring key leaders through flattery and commercially advantageous deals, and buying of others. All this will be immeasurably facilitated by a quantum expansion in cross-strait travel and commerce.” Taiwan and China now have no direct links, direct air-to-air flights or maritime transport, but many believe it is only a matter of time. Only about a thousand Chinese tourists and businessmen a year are allowed to travel to Taiwan. Once direct links are established, China is expected to overrun Taiwan with tourists, businessmen and, of course, more spies. One former U.S. intelligence officer assigned to the de facto U.S. embassy here, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), said the process has been a long one and virtually unstoppable. “With economic integration already in full progress, more and more people [in Taiwan] are going to make compromises, so the potential for more sell-outs increases,” the former intel officer said. “It is not a pretty picture. Most people recognize that the picture is not good, but no one knows how bad the picture might be. Time is on China’s side.” Chinese officials in Beijing and Washington did not respond to questions by press time. The Second Oldest Profession Lin believes more than 5,000 mainland Chinese spies are operating in Taiwan. Lin himself stumbled upon one who was driving a taxi here in 1995. http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?F=2694032&C=asiapac
This incident is not connected to last week's arrest of a South Korean exchange student at Bridgetown Regional High School who brandished a toy gun and made comments about the Virginia Tech massacre.
A 16-year-old youth faces two charges after incidents said to have taken place at Bridgetown Regional High School and a Bridgetown resident last Tuesday and Wednesday.

>>897 ★Only coercion is what Japanese government denies. It has never denied the 'presence of comfort women'. Don't switch the focus to denial of the comfort women in your own way.
★Armies of any countries around the world had the comfort women at that time. There is no reason only Japan has been criticized. If you want to criticize Japan's comfort woman system from a humanitarian perspective, express your opinion about those systems of all countries in the world. If you criticize the system as a war crime, you must describe which law at that time it violated.
★'Japan's comfort woman system' was different from systems in other countries in that it was a commercial transaction contracting with whoremasters who were the professional brothel managers to procur the prostitutes so called comfort women. There are numbers of evidences to prove this system was operated. Oppositely there is no evidence to deny this system. There are even examples that the severe punishments were given to the people who violated this system.
★First of all, it was common in the world to adopt the comfort woman systems to prevent the rapes in the battlefields. Army surgeons did also the regular health care necessary to prevent the STD transmission among the soldiers. And comfort women were able to not only get higher salaries than the soldiers and the full general were, but choose their customers and take days off. These facts are written in the American official document. Did you know that ?

★We don't have more than 'sympathy' for circumstances of the former comfort women. And the government's apology for what occured outside its responsibility such as illegal whoremasters could not possibly happen. Moreover other countries in the world that operated the comfort woman systems have never apologized either.
★As long as the comfort woman system was a commercial transaction, it was obviously a 'prostitution'. Withdraw the expression as 'sex slave' at once. If any rebuttals, they should be done with 'definition of what the sex slave is' and the 'evidence to deny the comfort women were nothing but the prostitutes'.
★By the way Japan and South Korea resumed diplomatic relations after issues between the nations had been 'completely and permanently solved' based on the agreement of the two countries as in the article 2 of Japan-South Korea agreement of claim and economic cooperation. According to the news reporter Heo Yeongseon's article in the local Jeju news on August 14th 1989 and the modern historian Ikuhiko Hata's field investigation described in "Seiron" issued in June 1992, it's obvious that Mr.Yoshida's testimony is a lie. Moreover, even "Asahi shinbun" that had repeatedly reported his testimony and agitated for the abduction with coercion, wrote later as "Asahi news and some other media came to doubt his testimony" on March 31st 1997. In fact they declared to deny his testimony. I'm surprised to see how Asahi corrected their tones. They are quite unscrupulous aren't they ? Well now that we know there have'nt been any trustworthy perpetrators' testimonies, what about the witnesses' testimonies ? is the question 7. Question 7: Any witnesses' testimonies ?
>>935 #2 The answer for this question is, Answer 7: This is also zero. It's a strange story that in spite of existences of the women calling themselves the victims, we've never seen a Korean witness. Next is the question 8. Then, Question 8: Was the comfort woman issue taken up through the negotiation process for the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Korea ? Though I hinted at the answer a bit, the answer 8 is, Answer 8: The talks between Japan and Korea continued as long as 14 years. Though every single issue, even if it was very small, was taken up one by one, not only Japan didn't submit this issue but Korea didn't. This is the very important fact, isn't it ? And the question 9 which is the simple question. Question 9: There has been none of a document, a victim's testimony, a perpetrator's testimony and a witness's testimony that we can trust to be the proved fact. And even Korea didn't take up this issue at all through the process of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Korea. Why has this become the international issue ? We should know the answer for this. The answer 9 is, Answer 9: After Japan had entered Heisei Period, "Asahi Shimbun" sparked this issue and the Kiichi Miyazawa cabinet implemented the apology policy. The course of this policy is like this. Mr.Takashi Uemura, a reporter of "Asahi", reported ex-comfort woman's testimony in Osaka headquarter edition on August 11th 1991. This article was the root cause of the "comfort woman issue". Nothing about the issue had not been reported even in Korea at that time.
>>935 #3 As for the contents of the artcle, it was a fabricated report in which Mrs. Kim Haksoon was abducted, forced into the "Women's Volunteer Corps" and then "sent to the battle area". As being a group of women mobilized to the military arsenals or the clothing factories, the Women's volunteer Corps had nothing to do with the "battle area" or the soldiers' sexual frustrations either. Besides, Mrs.Kim wasn't "abducted" but was sold by her poor mother. That's to say, the "comfort woman issue" has come from the fabricated report by "Asahi". This fabrication can't compare with Aru-aru's fabricated natto report. And next, on December 16th same year, the Pacific War Victims Association of Korea filed a suit with the Tokyo district court for 20 million yen a person, 300 million yen in all to be paid to the plaintiffs: 35 people including three ex-comfort women. The chief attorney was Mr. Kenichi Takagi. As "Asahi" sensationalized this accusation, it rapidly became critical. Here, we should never forget that Mr.Takashi Uemura reported this lawsuit. To tell the truth, he had been married to a daughter of then executive director and a current chairman of the Pacific War Victims Association of Korea that brought an action to the court. In a word, the man whose position was the executive director's son-in-law gave the first report on this lawsuit. I think we should never forget this fact. Moreover, what disastrously depraved the issue had been Prime Minister Miyazawa's diplomatic stance at that time. Without clarifying the fact or arguing with Korea thoroughly based on the fact, he tried to calm down the situation by admitting the fault and apologizing as half measures.
>>935 #4 It was ex-chief cabinet cecretary Kono's statements announced on August 4th 1993, the day before the general resignation of Miyazawa cabinet that has left traces until today. By his statements, not only the situation has never calmed down at all, but as Japan's govt itself has been considered to have admitted the "direct involvement" in the "abductions" of the comfort women by the "authorities etc.", Japan's honor in the international community has been disastrously stained. The resolution to demand Japan's apology in the American House of Representatives this time is also based on Kono statements. I believe everyone knows it. What huge problems it has created for the future ! This is the last question. Question 10: Is Japan liable for the ex-comfort women ? This is the question 10. Yes, this is the answer. Answer 10: No. There hasn't been any evidences that we can confirm the facts of abductions by the army and the authorities. Additionally the both countries admitted that all issues between the nations had been "completely and permanently" solved based on the "agreement of claim and economic cooperation" agreed in the process of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Korea in 1965. Accoding to this agreement, Japan provided Korea with the huge amount of economic cooperation that were free $300 million and the loan for $200 million: the foreign currency reserves of Korea at that time was only $130 million. This means that Japan provided far more than three times, close to four times of the Korea's foreign currency reserves. No one can deny the fact that this fully contributed to Korea's economic recovery after the war and it's well known to the public. And the conclusion.
>>935 #5 The comfort woman issue isn't the fact legally and from a historical angle. It's nothing but the political phantasm generated by Kono statements and keeps harming Japan's national interests. I think earnestly that we Japanese shouldn't lose sight of this fact.
April 29, 1992 15-year anniversary of the Los Angeles riots
Not long after the Rodney King beating in 1991, a 15-year-old black girl named Latasha Harlins was shot and killed by a Korean-American store owner, Soon Ja Du.
Soon Ja had observed the girl putting juice in her backpack, but a court review of the security video revealed that Harlins was planning to pay for her purchase. After a scuffle, Harlins put the money on the counter and fled, only to be shot in the back.
When bedlam broke out, Du’s store was burned to the ground.

All too often, that day in 1992 - called sa-i-gu (4-2-9) in the Korean American community - is misrepresented as merely being about black/Korean tension.
The New York Times, for instance, in a recent piece about Korean Americans, summarized "the 1992 civil unrest" as "the violence that followed a deadly confrontation between a Korean store owner and a black teenager." The reference was to Soon Ja Du, who was sentenced to five years' probation for killing Latasha Harlins in March 1991.
Harlins' death and the exacerbation of ethnic tension that followed must not be ignored - but it was hardly the catalyst. In fact, it was the unpopular verdict exonerating the officers responsible for the King beating that brought South-Central residents into the streets in a defiant protest. It was the police strategy of containing the unrest and protecting Beverly Hills, Culver City and West Los Angeles that left Koreatown vulnerable to looting. And it was the lack of a salient target for the rage against the verdict - a perceived direct act of injustice - that led blacks and Latinos to strike out against those Korean American businesses.
Sun Im An arrived in the United States in the mid-1980s from her native South Korea, uneducated, alone, with only a light grasp of English.
Several years later, she turned to prostitution to support herself and her young son, said her lawyer, Francisco Celedonio of New York City.
But it was her foray into the sex trade that eventually led to her arrest, Celedonio said.
In August 2006, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said they uncovered a network of brothels, masquerading as massage businesses, that stretched from Rhode Island to Washington, D.C., and included York County, where women were kept as sex slaves.
China's Baby Traffickers In rural Yunnan, poverty and the strict family-planning policy spawn a harrowing trade in infants By HANNAH BEECH Xicheng
Chicken street outlived its name years ago. When dawn lights the weekly market in this dusty hamlet in southwest China, the village buzzes with tribeswomen in technicolor dress peddling cilantro, bananas and wobbly squares of congealed blood used to fortify soup. But there isn't a rooster in sight, and an elderly shopkeeper can't remember when chickens last supported the local economy. The town's most lucrative trade now comes from a man standing under a scraggly palm, whispering, beckoning, pleading, enticing: "Come, come. Cheap, cheap. Baby, baby."

Food safety worries mount Does melamine hurt humans? Why isn't food supply protected?
By Stephen J. Hedges and Mary Ann Fergus Tribune staff reporters Published April 29, 2007 WASHINGTON -- The tainted pet food scare, which has swelled into a serious crisis for animal lovers, now has spread to humans.
California officials have revealed that the contamination got into the food chain: About 45 state residents ate pork from hogs that consumed animal feed laced with melamine from China. Melamine is used to make plastics, but it also artificially boosts the protein level -- and thus the price -- of the glutens that go into food. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-0704280461apr29,1,1457847.story?ctrack=2&cset=true
21-year-old Chinese student arrested for operating porn Web sites April 27, 2007 Chinese police on Thursday said they had arrested a 21-year-old student for running five pornographic Web sites with 210,000 registered users, amid a nationwide crackdown on online pornography that authorities say is "perverting China's young minds."
The student, only identified as Zhu, was detained in the eastern province of Shandong on April 12, after he was suspected of operating five porn sites, containing almost 170,000 pornographic images and obscene movie clips, the Ministry of Public Security announced.
About 210,000 people had signed up to the porn sites Zhu allegedly operated - "Demon's Island", "Global Beauty Pictures", "Community of Bloom", "Moon Alliance" and "Pretty Vines", the police said. http://english.people.com.cn/200704/27/eng20070427_370223.html

Sex-slave ring: Brothel just part of trade Officials say local madam was part of East Coast network By TED CZECH Daily Record/Sunday News Article Launched: 04/29/2007 12:46:59 AM EDT
It turns out Flushing was the nucleus for the sex-slave ring federal authorities unearthed, the tentacles of which stretched along the East Coast, according to the criminal complaints.
The federal investigation into the ring began in May 2005, when a Korean couple, Ae Soon Cho and Geeho Chae, tried to bribe an undercover New York City Police Department detective, according to the criminal complaints. Cho and Chae operated a large brothel in Flushing.
The undercover detective soon found that two other NYPD officers had been accepting bribes from the couple and were pocketing the money, according to the criminal complaints. http://www.ydr.com/newsfull/ci_5777114
◇Free Diversified Aspects Masayuki Takayama Professor, Teikyo Uiversity ▼Negligence Mr.Kun-Tsan Tsai, author of 'Taiwanese and Japanese spirit', was an army special volunteer. He was in the deep mountain in Kyoto at the end of the World War II. He wrote the chaos from the end of the war to the end of that year when he returned to Taiwan. They became the "victory nation" overnight and were offered superfluity of food. He made grilled rice balls for starved children. He sometimes went "all the way to Kyoto station" to hand them out to children. "At one time he saw the people handing out the naval thermal vests to children. Then he talked to them and found they were Taiwanese volunteer as he was." However Koreans, who had been in the force he had belonged, "in a group broke into and robbed food and clothe warehouses." "They were domineering to beat dispirited Japanese while saying they were the victory nation." Japanese prepared the special trains for the victory nation. An entire vehicle was provided for even a few passengers. They the victory nation called a stationmaster or a person in charge when they found blunders by Japanese, then assaulted them by beating and kicking. Sadanori Shimoyama, a director of the traveler bureau, was one of those were gang bashed by them and he was seriously injured to the testicle explosion. The repatriation program for this victory nation was done on the order of GHQ. F.Roosevelt who had died four months before the end of the war left the will saying "confine all Japanese in four islands and destroy them". As they wanted to destroy only Japanese, unrelated people as Koreans etc. had to be banished.
- 2/3 - At this time all Koreans who had come to Japan by so called "requisition" were supposed to return to their country. However in fact all of them did not return. Ho-Gyu Lim wrote how they were in those days in 'The third country poeple's commercial code'. "The third country people is a term referring to Koreans in Japan during the prewar and the postwar days. Most of them dreamed the success in Japan and came across the sea during the period of confusion before and after the World War II." Their occupations were "such that they were able to get the cash, as a rag collector, a pachinko parlor or a sex parlor etc." Another important cash business was a crime syndicate. The story of N.Zapetti who ruled the dark world of the postwar days and started selling chewing gums is described in 'Tokyo under world'. In this story, Japanese rejected chewing gums which were not their preferences. He tied up with a crime syndicate and made them threaten storekeepers to sell gums. Therefore the chewing gum culture was established in Japan. This crime syndicate was Toseikai that grew up rapidly after the war and its all members were Koreans. There are about 500,000 Korean residents now in Japan. 1650 among them are in prison. This number follows to that of Chinese in prison, which is 2000 among total 250,000 people. The rate of Koreans receiving public assistance is 48 per 1000 people. Compared with the rate of Japanese that is 12 per 1000 people, it's as much as four times higher. They came to Japan with success dreams but are now nothing but trouble. To deal with the increasing crimes by foreigners, the Ministry of Justice issues a "residence card" in which a person's name and address etc. are written in an IC. However, according to the report from Asahi Shinbun, "Koreans are not included" in those "foreigners".
- 3/3 - I get an impression as "Ploughing the field and forgetting the seeds" from that fact. Koreans in Japan receive shameless preferential treatments any other foreigners don't. For instance, if foreigners except Koreans are arrested for prostitutions, drugs or crimes that lead to one or more years of penal servitude, they will be immediately expatriated. Only they will not be expatriated as long as they commit crimes that lead to the seven or more years of penal servitude as homicide. They explain the reason for this is their history. In plain words, Japan owes them because they are descendants of abducted people. Thus they take this preferential treatment for granted. However, the abduction by army is a fabrication made up by Kyung-Sik Park. They are the descendants of people who came to Japan before and after the war, and squatted as Ho-Gyu Lim described. There is no reason that they are distinguished from other foreigners and receive preferential treatment at all. But sensible Japanese did not say anything small-minded. I compromise only Koreans who received the penalty of seven or more years of penal servitude must be expatriated. Then how many Koreans have been expatriated since the age Toseikai was active behind the scenes ? We have often seen, in newspapers, Korean names following "John Doe whose real name is". Expecting large number of criminals have been expatriated, I asked the Ministry of Justice of the exact number. However the answer was, "The number of expatriated Koreans since soon after the war until now is zero because the minister has never stamped for approval." Though it's well known that Seiken Sugiura refused the signatures for executions, I didn't know any Justice Ministers had not expatriated Korean felons. Isn't this the bigger security concern in Japan than to refuse executions ?
