studying latin or greek is anything but useless. you'll be able to
read tragedies, or philosophical texts exactly as they were written
without having to worry about the translation.
also, if you're able to understand latin it'll be a lot easier for
you to learn romanic languages like italian, french or spanish.

Do's and Don'ts.
A) Don't try to write a long letter. She's only 16 and I think 16 year-old
girl would be scared off by such a letter. So make it short.
B) Don't think she will accept you easily. She's a famous girl.
She has the right to choose which male she's dating, not yours.
C) Don't explode your burning desire for her. She will no doubt find the writer (you) gross.
So make the first message as lightly as possible, but you must leave something hot
in the writing. Step by step, you should show your emotions of love.
63名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/08(水) 02:24:43

vocal is good. But the lyric... It's kind of silly.
So I think it's natural it's selling in Japan (almost all
consumers don't understand, or care about, what he is singing about. lol
However, why is it popular among English speakers?

I've just stopped watching the drama <<たった一つの恋>> from ep3. Kind of waste of time.

>People said the story is nice.
I'm not sure if the drama is worth watching, but about the novel, it's
really thought-provoking and interesting (crime story). The author is,
I think, one of the best among Japanese mystery-book writers.

By the way, you are much more knowledgeable on J-drama. I just
googled on who plays the father. Namase Katsuhisa..
Yes, he knows what he's doing. He's a good actor, though I don't think
he's ever starred any drama.
89名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/08(水) 03:57:08
There are a lot of up and coming young actresses.

music and movies. he listen to a lot of music and watch downloaded movies all the day.
his knowleage in movies is quite impressive. he is often depressed.

i don't want to ask anything too private, but i have to admit
that i am somewhat interested. i apologise if my question is
indecent and of course there is no need for an answer, but how
did he become a hikikomori?
122名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/08(水) 07:32:27
he droped out of college. in the first year. he just stoped going there
123名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/08(水) 07:46:01
did he ever think about getting psychological help?
124名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/08(水) 07:49:55
no as far I know. he dont believe in stuff like that. he want to get back to college
some day.
125名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/08(水) 08:11:52
i am sure he knows that it would be better to go back to college.
so, why does he not go back? he knows that it would be better, yet
he does not go back, why is that? there is no physical barrier
that keeps him, so there has to be a mental barrier. if there was
nothing that keeps him from going he'd go, right? because he knows
that it would be better for him.

if he thinks to be able to overcome such a mental barrier all by
himself, i guess it's fine. but it could be a good idea to get some
professional help. if it doesn't turn out to be of help, he can
call it quits anytime. he probably didn't choose to become a
hikikomori all by himself, so why should he solve his problems all
alone?

well, of course, it's his decision and i do no doubt that from all
people he knows what is the best for him.

it's getting late over here, so i'll go to be now, my thanks for
this interesting conversation. good night.

The foreigner: I am sorry.

http://www.englishforums.com/English/IAmSorry/bjmnw/Post.htm

A man, who never passed his English texts, had been working in a big company after graduated.
One day, some English-speaking businessmen came to visit the company. The leader had this man
keep them company. When entering the lift, the man came into collision with one of the businessmen.
The man said, “I am sorry.” The businessman said, “I am sorry, too.” When hearing “two”, the
man said without hesitation, “I am sorry three.” The businessman felt strange and asked,
“ What are you sorry for?” Then the poor man had to say, “ I am sorry five.”

At my age, you have to think before you act. Your energy isn't as
limitless as it once was when you're young. That's why I brush my
teeth, shave, and take a shower at the same time every morning.

I don't sit down to eat a breakfast anymore. I'm too old to spend
such energy so casually and foolishly. I grab some toast and a cup
of coffee and run out the door to my car. I eat and drink while on
my way to work.

I save a lot time and energy this way.

Hello everyone,

What nation governs Korea district, Japan, China or Russia?
508名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/13(月) 21:30:56
Scholars such as Samuel E. Martin, John Whitman and Barbara E. Riley
have proposed that Japanese is a relative of Korean.
This theory is partly based on the high degree of similarity between modern Japanese and
modern Korean grammar, and supported by numerous non-trivial Japanese-Korean cognates that show regular
correspondences. The idea of a Japanese-Korean relationship is often subsumed into the Altaic theory,
though not all versions of Altaic theory incorporate Korean.

Because it's so obvious why they're popular. Children do not
idolise other children. Only older men idolise children, because
they see purity and innocence in them. They feel as if they have been
robbed of their own innocence, because they are older, or had an
unfulfilling childhood. Thus, by obsessing over young girls who are
made to symbolise and purity, they feel they are gaining back some of the
innocence they lost.
But they are men, and must fulfill their adult needs. That's how you get
lolicon :)!

Westerners are often perverted in different ways. From what I've seen,
there's less lolicon, more physical fixation - although there's plenty
of "barely legal!" porn sites out there. (Me, I like the weirdness that
掘骨砕三 or 町野変丸 create; their sorts of themes are generally not
found in the West.)

I suppose. I guess some things a lot of Americans might be interested
in and things a lot of Japanese might be interested in would be different,
but seem odd to one or the other only...

Japanese seem to have more obbsessions with younger people, but then
it's also not as frowned upon there as it is here. I bet
there's a significant amount of Americans who'd actually enjoy
lolicon and teenagers if it were legal and more accepted.

It's just my imagination, but I think that it can actually happen

Bush is definitely a neocon.

Also, America is much more religious than is obvious; among First World
European countries, only Ireland has a larger percentage of people who
say they regularly go to church, etc. Add in Christianity's obssession
with sex (and saying it's bad, evil, and Not Allowed), and that should
explain some things.

Neocon' neo imply converts who change their belief from
left wing liberals to conservatives
And most of them are jews. For example, neocon's ideologues,
Richard Perle ,Bill Crystal, are all jews.

. It is also true that american christian right favor jews and

The poll shows that the popularity rate of Prime Minister Abe was
down from 63 percent to about 50 as a whole. What a bit more detailed
analysis tells us is, a lot of males in their 20's to 40's
think the minister doesn't try to make himself clear, so
he's not popular among them. In the meanwhile, however, more than
50 percent of the females over 50 are supportive of Abe Shinzo
because he looks nice and young.

What I don't understand is why older generations don't take it
seriously that they will lead a hard life because of Abe's policy.
He's made a choice of milking Japanese citizens - social benefits
and tax policy and all things which older generations need more than
younger generations do - and still the biggest supporters are
elderly people. Don't judge the book by its cover, please.

どちらか。

それを踏まえて、"I'll never do it." と "I won't do it."の違いだけど、
neverで否定する方が、notで否定するより、強い否定になると思う。
日本語だと、「決してしません。」と、ただ「しません。」の違いがあると思う。

>>640 asked the differences between "I'll never do it." and "I'll not do it."
My answer in Japanese above is "I'll not do it." is wrong. It should be
"I won't do it." or "I will not do it."

Then what's the differences between "I'll never do it." and "I won't do it."?
My answer above is "never" means stronger negative than "not."

Prime Minister Abe will do whatever it takes to make his political
orientations realised.
I must tell you what happened in the general election last year in the
first place. The former minister Koizumi ousted lots of LDP members (now they are free agents)
and won the election big time. Koizumi did anything to achieve
his political goal.
And now Abe and his followers are making deals with the ousted
memebers and try to get them back, which action obviously betrays
the voters' trusts.

The biggest reason why he's active behind the scene is an election
which is going to be held next year. Most of the ousted politicians
and statesmen (there were some) still have a great number of votes
they can count. So Abe definitely needs them back. But what he's
doing is not acceptable.
645名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/16(木) 05:43:18
I heard about an anecdote about former Prime Minister Koizumi.
Believe it or not, he said he was lucky when NK's missile experiments were conducted
this summer. Everytime he began to lose his popularity because of his
bad politics, North Korea did agitate Japan. And Koizumi got his popurarity
back! What a shame. He used NK's threats to make longer his administration!
And Abe seems to follow Koizumi's footsteps. He's also used NK.

Abe Shinzo, the cute-masked energetic hawkish politician, doesn't
have what it takes to be a great minister. He loves to pose.
Yesterday, he passed a controversial bill of education. He's
been waving a flag on which written was: the Beautiful Japan.
As you know, he's never mentioned what is beautiful - it depends
on people how "beautiful" a thing is and what is beautiful.

715名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/17(金) 17:03:15
It's not like other races aren't racist against whites.
I had an English teacher who was half-Italian half-Cuban, and looked white
who was picked on when she went to school because of her whiteness.
She went to an school with almost no whites in downtown LA.
That's just one example.
716名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/17(金) 17:13:41

718名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/17(金) 17:20:42
It's not nesesarrily about race.
A girl was picked on in school because she was short, and she killed herself several days ago in Japan.
It's being different that makes a difference.
You are expected to be the same in Japan.
719名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/17(金) 17:41:22
>>718
Well, assuming you're talking to me (>>715), this happened in LA,
which is in the United States. In American schools, you are also
expected to be the same. Maybe not to the same extent as in Japan,
though. Boys are sometimes picked for being short in American schools,
but I don't think girls usually are. I remember that when I was in
junior high school, there was a short boy who everyone would call
"rat boy" because of his shortness and the fact that people thought
he looked like a rat. And there was a boy who was called "sunshine"
(because of his blond hair, I think), who was also short. People
would sometimes beat him up and throw things at him.
720名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/17(金) 20:28:57
You can avoid being "the same" by excelling in one skill, be it
sports, studies, etc. even in Japan.
Only those who "think" they are different but not making the effort
required to be truly different end up being another brick in the wall.

"White race purity" humbug. You're the hypocrite, sir.
Take a proper, scientific biology class, and actually learn some sensible things instead of
sprouting bullshit you've decided carries great "truthiness". I have no pride over my genes
(why should I? They were given to me randomly, I have done NOTHING to get my genes, this
unlike any achievements I have worked to get). It makes me sad that too many people focus
on things that do not matter, instead of a lot more important matters and problems in the world.
we're all humans, _that_ is what counts. Swedes are not threatened by some barbarians, and
sadly our native scandinavian people are a bit shoved back, but they're at least doing a lot
better now than some decades ago. Though, I must say.. I thought "miniorities" include natives?
Also, if we look at it on a global perspective, your precious so called "white people" are in a miniority.
I live in a safe area, yes, and I'm so very grateful for that. I don't have to worry about natural disasters,
nor wars (for now, at least.. WW3 might break out soon... Ack...) but that doesn't mean I'm not aware and
wanting to do something about it. We're also seriously screwing up our future, the "developed" countries
being the biggest villains and others trying to adopt our method of global abuse. It makes me scared to think
of our future -_-;;; The "developed" countries need to set strategies for not behaving this badly, and help
others get better strategies at the same time as better lives, rather than doing the same mistakes we did/still do.

Dry skin?
Hmm. Apart from using moisturizers, you should make sure to take Omega-3 supplement pills,
if you're not getting enough through your diet. Though it is preferrable if you try to get
it into yourself mainly via your diet.
(keep in mind that omega-3 oil will deteriorate and get bad in heat, so for instance using
such to fry things is a really bad idea, as it may even just make you sick, due going
really bad in the intensive heat).
If your skin is really dry, you may want to use hemp skin-cream for dry skin.
I like The Body Shop's hemp hand cream a lot, as I wash my hands too often. You should also
make sure to use soaps/shower-gels that helps moisturize your skin/doesn't dry it out.

So yes..
1) Eat right
2) use moisturizing soaps/shower gels
3) use moisturizing creams (body-lotion, etc)

I've seen that page before, I think.
The manga with the legendary "yaranaika" scene. I asked my boyfriend
what all of those "yaranaika" references were about on a forum, so
he gave me a link.
It was very... weird and amusing, and odd.
At least now I know what all of those "yaranaika" references originated from.

Hm.. Oh! That flash animation that had made a musical using the
characters was hilarious and brilliant :-D The one where
someone had semi-drawn the characters, singing and dancing.
I should see it again. A pity I do not understand Japanese yet.
Hmm... Where could that file be, now... I do hope I did save

No, they love sex, they just
use the "it's only ok if you're

If one has some imagination and some real interest in making the
partner feel good: Very easy. one doesn't even have to use toys
:-p People too often think that size in an excuse for being
lousy in bed. It very much is not, whether it's big or small.
If one doesn't feel comfortable with one's partner, then why the

one's parter, then sex should be no problem, regardless of size.

875名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/19(日) 01:17:12
An ant's strength is nothing to be amazed at.
If you realized that volume and area do not increase at the same rate
as size increases, you would see why. Muscle strength is determined primarily
by cross-sectional area and weight by volume, so you can see that
as size increases, strength and weight will not rise in a 1:1 ratio.
Area rises at the rate of size increase squared, and volume at the
rate of size increase cubed.

So let's say you scaled up an ant 20 times it's size. It's strength would be 400 times as great,
and it's weight would be 8000 times as great. So it would now be to lift 6800 times its original weight.
Unfortunately for it, it now weighs 8000 times as much, and can no longer hold up its own body!

So it is obvious that small animals will be able to lift large multiples of their own weight,
and that large animals will have the greatest strength overall.

I wonder why the text boxes on this site don't wrap. You have to put
in line breaks. Is it because there are no spaces in Japanese writing,
which makes wrapping not work?
904名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/19(日) 02:21:20
No, its because you can't post large AA's if it did.

Wrapping in the text box only has an effect inside the text box.
It would make it hard to make large AA's using the text box, but
you could still make them using somewhere else and then paste them.
I guess that is the reason, though.

Well, I said before "Muscle strength is determined primarily by cross-sectional area".
That is the reason that it would 400 times greater.
I'm sorry about not explaining the 6800 times its original weight thing...
I was responding to >>855 which said:
>If i recall correctly, there was this freakish ant that could take
>even 17 times it's own weight,

If it could originally lift 17 times its weight, and is now 400 times
stronger, then it can now lift 6800 times its original because 17 times
400 is 6800. Now you should understand.

I think this race is gonna go right down to the wire.
Bit. in the end, I think Takahashi has an edge over
Tosa because Takahshi has been running right behind
Tosa as if she is watching how Tosa moves next.
That indicates that she is somewhat confident of herself being able to do anything to counter tosa's move.
I think Takahashi has more gas left in her tank than Tosa does.

985名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/19(日) 16:18:21
>>983
Is it okay to answer in English?
I would say that "mix" is used more than "blend" and is more general.
"Mix" means to put different things together, and "blend" means to
put things together and combine them evenly such that the result
looks like a substance in its own right rather than separate substances
that were put together.

This means that you can mix papers together, for example, but
you cannot blend papers. However, you can blend apple juice and
grape juice to make apple-grape juice. You could call that mixing, too, though.
I don't think there are any cases where you can use "blend" but
not "mix", but there definitely are ones where you can use "mix"
but not blend.

I hope this helps...
986名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/19(日) 17:10:31
