>>6 Yes, people do sometimes want the old threads, but wouldn't it be better to just have a webpage with the list instead of pasting it in every thread? I think it is less common that someone would want the backlog of this type of thread. In the end it doesn't really matter though as the list only takes up a few posts.
>>7 Indeed the list takes up a few posts in this thread, but you make too much of it. It's just one-fivehundredth of this thread. You are too sensitive.
Yeah, as I said in the previous thread, the thread was finally built. To the ones who spoke against my idea, served you right! Many poeple want the series of the chatting threads to get going. You see what I mean now.
Who cares if she drinks and smokes? How does that make you a bad person? One should not make value judgements about another choices without good reason.
>>1 You don't know what you are doing. This thread shouldn't have been built. There are bunch of people who disagree to continue this thread. You should appologize to us for what you did.
I've been quite a stranger here. What's all this fuss about whether this thread should be continued or not? Anyway, part of me feels happy that this thread still exists.

Major League Baseball is the world best league, because there are many players around the world. If there are only Americans in the league, it's just one of the baseball leagues.
BOA is big serpants which are equipped with 2 large poisonous fangs. I don't feel it fear, not beautiful. The word of Beautiful exists for my Maki chan.
Snakes are rather beautiful, especially the Rainbow boa, in my opinion. The artist BoA doesn't look to bad either. But if there's one thing you should fear, it would be to be trapped in a swamp with a giant anaconda.
Do you know what's happening in France? The Japanese media said the goverment of France is trying to enact a law and if it comes into effect younger employees are easily fired. French graduate students are protesting against it. And labor unions are sceduled to demonstrate too. I am impressed. Historically, the civilian revolution (I don't know how to describe it correctly in English though) occurred there. French people still have the guts to seek for their own rights. That's why I am thinking good of them.
>>63 I think it is good that they want to protect their rights. I thought you implied that they were going to have a revolution though. Rereading your post it does not seem that way.
>>65 Don't be sorry. What I have in mind is that if the Koizumi administration does wrong we will not stick up for what we believe in. I mean, if there are people who stand up, they might be bashed because they can easily become a butt of jeers... That's Japanese.

i wonder which word we should use for "kantoku" in baseball, manager or coach. literally, kantoku means manager. but they seem to be called "coach" in most of american sports.
I know Cuba is one of the best baseball contries in the world. In fact, the contry won the gold medal in the Athen olympic. They are well trained and really tenatious, and according to the official record, Japan has won againt Cuba only 4 times out of 36 matches. I must admit we have gone through a rough period so far. However, things were different then from now. That official data finds evidence that Japan will beat the opponent this time. After Japan's professional baseball players made a team, they have never lost against Cuba. I'm way sure we will become the first champion of WBC.
Come to think of it, many beautiful women love professional baseball players, don't they? Take Ichiro for example. He got married to a TV broadcaster. There are a bunch of famous women and baseball players couples.

I don't understand how come you neet people always want to talk about stupid idols. If you have a time for such bullshit, why don't you go out there and find a work?
>>126 I don't understand. Why do you regard the teenager as an angel. That can't be happening. You need to control yourself. If you ask me, Sasha Cohen is a real angel.
I am wondering whether there are those girls who want to talk about male idols, SMAP, ARASHI, V6 and so on. Why is this thread full of topics about female idols?
I do want to have a chat about baseball and so I brought up the subject here, but because idol fans are rampant here, I got off the subject and talk with them about idols. What's so bad? If you are complaining, why don't you reply to me?
>>132 What made you think so? What's the argument? In my view, we have many idol fans here. Emma watson, Tenkarin, Maki Horikita, Yukorin, and many more idols have been referred to in the series of the chatting threads. When I talk with them, I try to inform them that Sasha Cohen deserves to be called an angel, though.
>>129 in japan, many male otakus are highly educated, but few female otakus are. >>126 doesn't seem to be intelligent. but at least he can use broken english.
>>137 No, you don't need to feel sorry. Don't take this the wrong way, but as I see it, topics about idols are sort of easier to share with casual aquaintance like in this thread. For one thing, people in the English board seem to hasitate to put into English what they want to say. They are worried about both grammatical mistakes and misspellings, because in general Japanese people don't have chancecs to communicate in English and they love to find fault with others. For another, in such situation, they want to know whether people who they talk with are friendly enough to have a chat. The point is, Japanese want to make the first contact with others as casual as possible. So idols topics become a "hello-how are you doing" kind of stuff in the thread in a sense, so to speak. The more replies are bandied, the more relaxed they become. After that, they start talking about more serious matters like senia officail's corruption or international goodwill, and how things are like in overseas contries. In conlusion, idol topics are just a introdution. As a matter of fact, I tried to talk about baseball just a while ago, but it didn't get so much attention.
*I hope many more people in the English board don't hasitate to write in English..
>>142 Yeah, I don't say all the idol fans here agree with my idea. I mean, some of them tend to cling to idols topics after making sure other posters are not offensive, though. But that doesn't mean all idol fans talk only about idols. We need to draw the line between idol maniacs and just fans. What do you say?
What's your opinion about minors drinking a lot in public? Memebers of the baseball club ofKomadai Tomakomai drank and made fuss in a family-style pub and someone report to the police before the perincipal of the high school decided to give up participating in the nation-wide baseball competition held in spring. The massmedia implied that they asked for it, and high-school baseball players must be an examplary people. But looking back on how it is like when I went to high school, not a few people drank alcohol, so to me it's gone too far to give them such a punishment.
Speaking of alcohole, Emma Watson was photographed when she took a sip of colona beer.
>>146 Then what do you think about a regulation by which teenagers under 16 y/o are prohibited from entering karaoke rooms? What about the law about home applinces which will come into effect this april? If all the rules existing in Japan make sense, no one won't take any action against the authorites.
Baseball is popular from coast to coast, while Europian people prefer football. As Japan is located between both of the resions, people love both baseball and football.
As far as I'm concerned, this thread didn't need to be built. True, I thought we needed it because we had several overseas people coming along and not all of them could speak Japanese in spite of their aspiration to say something in 2ch. So there was needs for this thread. But I guess I was wrong. After the previous thread was used up, none of them appeared here, not even a time. What should we do with the thread? Do you think the next one will never have to be created? I remember some people said we shouldn't set up this thread... I'm sorry they were right. If there's no need, it shouldn't be created again.
>i think many japanese are naive in this point. I know what you mean. A rule is a rule, whatever is written in books. That's the way many Japanese think. But concerning the law about old household appliances, some people/organization/musicans have been against it, because they live by selling used goods or they produce music by old music instruments. They had a point. There's no reasonable argument to drop old and used things. It is going back to a former generation to creat as many mechanical things and consume them. We should try our best to re-use anything if possible, because we have limited resorces on the earth. It sounds silly for the Japan's authorities to ban its people from recycling old stuff. It's just my opinion, though..
wily mo pena has been traded to the red sox for broson arroyo. i consider this a bad move, what was the GM thinking, the sox need better defense now. they should have some better starting pitching
>>139 I have the antithesis of that. I am afraid I might hurt someone's self-esteem greatly if I throughly correct them. However, if I do not correct people I am not helping them improve. I also seem to change my writing style when posting here. I am torn between trying to talk plainly so that people can understand what I mean and yet some would perfer that I write naturally. I even use different style within the same post sometimes.
>>150 What is there is a law that left-handed people have to wear a badge and are discriminated against? There are natural laws that exist even higher than government. It is right to stand up to government at times. Do you not agree? Government must be based on consent of the governed. Thus if people do not think that laws are just they should be changed. This is the concept of Plato, Locke, Hobbes, and Rousseau.
Also this textarea is a pain in the ass. I'll have to make a usercss line to make it bigger. That will only help so much though as you are forced to make short lines.
I want several threads in English about separate topics in this English board, such as "How to learn English effectively", "Discuss the Japanese political situations", "Talk about your fav idols" or "Tell me about your love life", etc.
How about that? After all this is ENGLISH board, right? It's so unreasonable for us not to have threads about specific (not just general) matters in ENGLISH.
>>161 By the way.. I think there already are idol threads on this board.. Just that most of them can't be arsed to stay put, and have to babble about their favourite (wank-material) idols in all the other threads too.
There are foreigners who check out the English area of 2ch, but it's also worth noting that the time change hurts when trying to hold a conversation on the board.

I know Cricket by name, but truthfully I have no idea what it's like. Is it a popular sports around the world? Something like WCC(world Cricket Classic) has taken place?
Cricket is absolutely popular, espesially in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, I think. Have you ever watched a movie like Maurice or something? They play Cricket in the movie and you'll know what it is like. It seems fun to play, rules seem a bit complicated though...
Cricket is complicated to play, but the basics can be picked up if you watch a few hours of it with someone who knows what's going on.
Basically you have two batsmen (batters) at the end of a 10 m area with a large field around them. The bowler (pitcher) throws the ball and bounces it towards one of them (for six throws, then switches). The two batsmen have to reach the other end in order to score a run, and can keep running until they think they'll get out. A batsman stays in the game until he is out.
There are eleven ways of getting out, most of them like in baseball but with the addition of being stumped (there are three posts behind the batter with tiny spindles on top. If they get knocked off by the bowl or the batsman, he's out).
The real fun is that the bowler is allowed to hit the batsman with the ball (as long as it's not intentional), so professional players can get pretty banged up in the course of batting for an hour or two.
(Professional matches go for either one day/eight hours or five days/ fourty hours.)

But yeah, read English and speak with people in English. Even if your vocabulary is very limited you're bound to pick up new stuff. You could also always do some chatting with people, either via text or audio. Skype is useful for voicechatting and any instant messenger service will do, as long as others have it to (I'd recommend one of the four most common programs: MSN Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Instant Messenger, ICQ). Listening to audio / watching TV-shows/movies in English is good too.
My English is far from perfect but I can always do some chatting on AIM with you if you wish. You should probably gett some English penpals too, if not also chat-buddies.

>>244 First of all, don't use such words as "ain't" unless you are reasonably comfortable with these words. You'll end up being regarded as some kind of stupid person if the words you use don't fit in the context in which you intend to convey what you have to say. But also don't be afraid of using the words or phrases you've recently learned if you think they can convey your intention.
The difference is whether you use the words only because you want to use them, or you use them because you think they convey what you want to say.
"I like hearing English", for example, sounds queer in this context but you can get across what you want to say. In contrast, "I ain't have any penpals" can be perfectly understood but sounds VERY silly in this context.
>>246 You need to be more accepting of usage that is not the vernacular.
>>245 I agree that "I like hearing English." sounds odd. I would probablysay "I enjoy listening to English being spoken." or some such. I do believe that "How to get to know such people?" is even more awkward though. "How would I find such a person?" would be how I would state it. Ofcause -> Of course, too
>>247 I think he or she wants to get to know such people, and get hooked up with them and all that. I want to get to know them too. Can you think of good lines to say?
>>248 (I'm assuming by hooked up with, you mean romantically.) Pickup lines generally do not work face to face, they certainly aren't going to work in text. You just have to charm them with your personality.
Read this passage and answer the questions bellow.
When you deduce the genesis of a word, it is useful to start from the word’s face - that is: the word’s spell itself. The word ‘technical’, for instance, can be deduced to stem from the noun ‘technic’ ,if you have learned the formula: additional ‘al’, when they accompanies to the noun that ends with ‘c’, make a noun to a adjective. Surprisingly, it make ture if you are foreigners and it happens even you are from the country where not-Germanic-group languages is the mother tongue. Let me clarify it. Take the word ‘Sakabuta’for instance. If you’re Japanese, what come upon your mind when you read this word first time? Isn’t it a ugly unearthy figure playing soccer and putting on soccer uniform though they ’re not human? And dosen’t this curious association make you laugh? Then, can you explain how this whole process - read the word THEN result in laugh - happen? To your surprise, it can be explained by using the same quatation I wrote above in case of English word ‘technical’. First of all, you see the word ‘Sakabuta’with first two words‘Saka’ spalled in Katakana then ‘Buta’ in Kanji. ‘Saka’, when spalled in Katakana, would well make reader associate it with soccoer and ‘Buta’ literally means pig, the symbol of ugliness and idleness.
QUESTION [A]Choose the item that fits the blank most correctly.
According to the passage, the term ‘Sakabuta’represents [ ].
A:the monster that lives in the internet B:the imaginary figure who is made by Yakibta’s imagination C:the ugly unearthy monster playng soccer D:the abusive person who have no job and dosen’t attend any school so have nothing to do but attacking baseball
[B]Write the short essay about ‘Sakabuta’. You must use at least 10 words and must not use over 20 words.
Do you think Uchiyama Rina underwent plastic surgery? I read in a thread that, supposedly, she did. But I can't believe that. She would be the last person to get surgically improved.
Speaking of Americans, I remember Sasha Cohen failed to get a gold medal in the world figure skating competition held yesterday. She missed a few jumps but other than that she did great, though. I did hope she won the medal, so I was let down a bit.
Sasha looks as if she were a beartiful dool. I like her a lot.
Even if my angek Maki Horikita were an ice figure skater, she would get the perfect score and finally got a golden medal. Because she is very pretty! she is just like an angel! Sasha Cohen is trully pretty, but Maki is mor epretty! that's all! Good bye! Thank you.
Is there anyone in this thread who will listen to my desire? It's very hard to say , but I am determined to confess my secret desire. Actually I like junire high and high school girls very much. so if i could ,i want to make love with them. I wish I could have a sex with them. If you can satisfy my wish, I will pay you as much as you hope. These are secrets. Don't tell anyone about these.
The media report I saw yesterday said a US travel company had organized a tour of a Japanese manga/anime festival and some 20 participants visited it. The festival featured Miyazaki Hayao's son's next anime. A tour conductor said he wanted to bridge the cultural gap between the US and Japan and help foster mutual understanding. It was impresive that there were real fans of Japanese mangas who wanted to come visit Japan. Anyway, the travelers are going to pay a visit to Akihabara today, said the reporter.
There's a company in the US called "Pop Japan Travel" that do trips to Japan every three months. They visit a couple of anime studios (GONZO, MADHOUSE, and Toei are the most common) and Akihabara. It's not just otaku stops, though, and they do visit some more traditional tourist spots such as temples, Tokyo Tower, etc. I'd love to go on it sometme, but the trips are VERY expensive ($2000 for a week plus airfare to Los Angeles). As it is I have to put off going to Germany again (I wanted to go for Christmas this year to see Starlight Express and Elisabeth).
>>289 That's good news. I know there are a bunch of manga fans around the world because I have had a chat with some of them here in this chatting thread, but I didn't know they come to see such studios. They are self-starters, aren't they?
And I'm sorry to hear that getting around in Japan needs so much money. Come to think of it, Tokyo and Osaka are very expensive places in the world.
Not to change the subject, but things have changed where I live. When I was yonger, almost no overseas people were nothere to be seen, but today I see not a few of them when I take the train. Of course, I don't try to speak to any one of them, but I guess they say Japan's cost of living is higher than expected.
>>290 Do you want to speak to them? If so, what is stopping you?
I wouldn't think they would need to be trying to start a manga company though. They just want to meet the people that made some of their favourites and see how it is done.
>>291 Well, because I wouldn't speak to people I don't know on the train, especially when I have nothing to share with them. And I believe most Japanese people's way of thinking is the same as mine. Do you think you could possibly talk to strangers with nothing in common?
As for online conversation like we do here, some foreigne manga fans were passionate and talkative, so I had a good time with them. Recently, though, I haven't met the ones I talked with before.
Fans come to see the creative team and learn about the process behind making the titles they like to see. Personally, I'd want to see the list of studios before signing over my money...I tend to prefer titles by GAINAX and Sunrise, but I'm also not typical amongst US fans (who prefer GONZO by far if DVD sales and what's on TV are anything to go by). Directors, designers, etc. are also frequently invited to US fan conventions where they talk for an hour or so about what they've worked on, answer questions from the fans, sign autographs, etc.
As far as starting a company in the US to sell anime and manga, the industry got too big over here in 2004, and put out more product than the fans were willing to buy. As a result there was a bit of a crash, and now is a horrible time to start a company in manga or anime (unless you're a large corporation looking to branch into the market).
As far as what I'm reading manga-wise lately, the first English volume of "Monster" by Urasawa Naoki just came out over here and I can't wait for the next book to come out. I've seen the anime for "Yawara!" and "Master Keaton", so getting anything new from Urasawa is exciting.
Lastly, did anybody here go to Tokyo Anime Fair? If so, did you see a man with a goatee, green felt hat, and yellow ukelele? (He's an acquaintance of mine.)
>>294 I'm afraid I didn't go to the Fair, but in the TV news show yesterday, a band of American travelers from teenagers to in their 40's were visiting it, and the reporter interviewed some of them. So he may have appered on TV, but I don't remember there were anyone wearing a hat.
Urasawa's mangas are read by even adults here. In fact, Master Keaton and Yawara! were made into anime. By the way, do you know Detective Conan? It's my favorite anime currently broadcast in Japan.
Sorry to interupt you, but I'd like to hear about something. Has Dragon Quest been broadcast in the US? As far as I know, Dragon Quest (American people may call the RPG "Dragon Warrior") is a video game. In Japan, the game became an animated TV show, and I found it very interesting as a kid. There are fan sites of the anime, and they want the company to make the DQ anime DVDs. If you are curious, take a look at one of the sites. ttp://www.ahww.or.jp/ani/tel_dq/dq_cels.htm Even if you don't read Japanese, I'm sure you can enjoy the images uploaded on the site.
I love Detective Conan, but haven't watched it for a while. They changed all the character names for the English dubbed version (Shinichi is now Jimmy, Ran is now Rachel, etc.) and I haven't had the money to buy (or time to rent) any of the DVDs in order to get the subtitled version past episode 50 or so.
Sadly, Detective Conan was considered a failure on US television. It was considered too violent to play during child friendly hours, even on cable, and ended up being shown during a 14+ block at some crazy time like 23:00 or 23:30 between reruns of Futurama (a sci-fi comedy from the creator of The Simpsons) and something more teen oriented like Cowboy Bebop or InuYasha.
I asked a friend of mine who's into games, and she says that she believes that a poorly overdubbed and heavily edited version aired in the US in the 1980's. She also believes that it only aired on a handful of independent stations (as opposed to the major networks). The cels look very pretty, too...I miss the look of hand painted animation.
Holliwood actress Scarlet Jonannsson got a splendid award that she is the sexiest woman in the world. I admit it. But you should be aware that My Maki chan is the most pretty girl in the world!
>>292 If they aren't doing anything like listening to music or reading I'll talk to people sometimes. Long train, bus, and plane rides are boring so why not have a chat? Some people would like to be left alone, but I can normally tell if they are not interested. I even met one of my best friends on my daily bus ride. I saw her on the bus many times and normally she would be reading a book. One day she was reading one of my favourite books and I started a conversation. It turns out we had many things in common!
Can some Foreign and Japanese readers here tell me about some pessimistc literature, I would like to read some works in the style of Dazai Osamu or also Louis-Ferdinand Celine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celine
I am a very depressed and stressed individual who feels wrong among humans, and I relate very well to books like these. I know there are smart English speakers here, so share your knowledge with me if possible.
>>307 There's a lot of pessimistic lit in western SF, but I'm not sure I can recommend an author that's quite in the style you want. You may want to try the works of Robert Heinlein, Kurt Vonnegut, or Ursula K. LeGuin. For non-SF, Goethe is a good read, as are any of the dystopians.
What an immoral future of Japan!! 37 of 100 children survey told lies when thay dropped thier 10 yen coins in front of a shop assistant. They told they dropped 100 or 500 yen coins. They would became stupid losers, liars, and NEETs just like us.
Today's newspaper says that American beef will be exported to Japan this coming June. Why did Japan decide to admit that the excuse that US beef is properly processed is acceptable after the breach of contract? I suspect Bush urged Koizumi to import it even if it is BSE-infected. I hear the poll showes that the popularity rate of Bush has declined, what with the iraq war and the patriot act, so he needs to regain his popularity from his supporters. What a pity. Japan shouldn't import supposed BSE-contaminated beef, as long as US follow the Japan's code of how to process beef.
I want to go to Japan and eat meat there. I've heard it's healthier. But if exporters have to make sure the beef is safe, why the hell don't they care about what we the people of America eat on a daily basis?
I wonder why you are always trotting out the same stuff. She is just a human being who breaks air and makes in her pants. You should know better than to consider a girl as an angel.
>>350 Tell me. What's got into you? You wanted to say some 6 people got infected with mad cow desease and there's nothing to worry about exept for the fact, didn't you?
>>353 In all of the time we have known about mad cow only a handful of people have ever been infected. The odds of someone being infected are very, very low. Thus, it is silly to worry about it; especially considering how much more we know about it now.
According to a TV report, the German organization of the world cup of football supposed to be held 70days later has a lot of internal problems. It came to light that unfair judges are rampant because of money. And the media says German people expected their representative would win the Cup but today they thought better of it because they lost a game versus Italy by 1-4.
He's so deeply in love with her that we can't understand what's on his mind. He will do whatever he thinks needs to find and approach her. I hope she'll use her best caution.
I'm afraid it's impossible. One important thing we know is that he always wants to talk about her whenever we are having a chat about other things. That makes me think what he usually thinks is only about girls, especially teenaged girls. I'm worried that he might go to extremes.
We know both Maki and Yukorin are lovely angels, and there's no need to speak about the fact again and again... But if you allow me to tell you new information, Maki's fart must smell horrible.

Hell, everyone. I'm looking for a good text book for effective usage of prepositions. For example, I always mix up "on" and "of." I can't tell the difference between "analysis of" and "analysis on." When I googled them, the former retrieves about 10 times larger results than the latter. I guess "analysis of" would be natural for native speakers. Do you have any ideas or recommendations?
Nice to meet you.I'm fifteen years old. I would like to work abroad in the future. But now I'm not good at English at all.So I must study hard. Can you give me an idea of what you think of me?
Please, give him the benefit of the doubt. He just loves her so much that he sometimes lose control of himself. He's a nice person himself. Remember, love makes you blind! It's not his fault. If you ask me, her beatifulness and prettiness makes him mad. And the more he talks about her, the deeper his love goes. Your harsh attitude only makes him all the more hardened. Please let him in this thread and consider him as a best pal of yours. He's a good guy. We must treat him fairly!
>>433 Take back what you just said! You must denigrade what he accomplished! He let us know there are a real angel in this crazy world! All you have to do is follow him.
I didn't know Maki chan is an angel before he turned up here and show us her smiles were very cheerful! No one can deny it. He is a good man because he generously shared a good topic with us, which mean and stingy males keep it to himself. We must applaud him when he's back. I just say this to make you aware he did all he needed to make the world peaceful.
>>435 Shut uo! You idiot! Your derogatory remarks will make him all the more irritated! I command you to get down on your knees and prostrate yourself before him!
Don't take me wrong, please. I am the last person to speak against that Maki's fan. I can't be. I've been saying that the fan of Maki boosts our motivation to get going.
It seems to me that he knows a lot about idols, so no wonder there are more idols he can introduce to us. In other words, he may be a fan of Yukorin as well as Maki, and what's more, he can tell us there are hotter idols other than Maki and Yukorin. I hope he will get his mind made up to let us know about them.
>>443 You can say that again. As >>442 pointed out, this thread is for those who are supportive of idols. In my view, I would like to know about idols from all over the world, not only Japanese ones.
Looking back on the past postings, I remember Hillary Duff was called the hottest American idol, which surprised me a little bit, because I thought Britney Spears was the most popular idol in the US.
I have to pay some respect to the fan of Maki's, because he told us time and again that Maki would get popular and go on TV often when she still didn't. I'm sure that he can predict who will come up next.
Anyway, I believe he deserves Maki because he did see through her! He can get married to her and become elated!
>>467 I see. All I know about Densha Otoko is that an otaku male helped out a woman called Hermes before taking a good deal of advice online, and went out with her in the end.
I haven't been here for several days to hit upon a good strategy to make angel Maki chan happy when I marry her. By the way, Have you seen a drama pn Earthquake in Tokyo on Nittere at 9 last night. The drama gave me strong shock , but I decided myself I must protect my angel Maki chan from many dangers when big quake occurs.
>>479 Of course, I do. I've been thinking it is about time you came back here in the thread. Anyway, how was your stay in Tokyo? Hope you enjoyed it. Mind if I ask you to share your experience with us?
As you said, Tokyo is the most expensive place in the world, MAS. To be truthful, I don't like it. Though Japan has become one of the greatest debtor nation, roughly 7 trilion yen, we still have to use money more than actually needed. I'm worried that we will go in financial squeez when we are awake from a dream in which we believe Japan has good enough money. We live in a relatively good condition, all because we have borrowed huge money.
More importantly, I think you said you were worried about discrimination against non-Japanese when you took a look at a website in which someone said he felt let down when a Japanese girl closed a car window as he came near her. Perhaps I said you don't have to worry about it, then. How did things go? Was there a problem you encountered like the poster on the site had one?
I didn't really feel discriminated against during my 3 month stay. During the first few weeks I was stared at quite a lot, but as I grew accustomed to acting and dressing in a more Japanese fashion the staring stopped almost entirely. What surprised me most was the morning rush-hour trains! I used to take the Denentoshi sen all the way from Chuuourinkan to Kudanshita, which is about an hour, every morning. The train used to be so full I could literally not move. This really shocked me during my first week but I got used to it after a while. I'm really glad I don't have to endure the morning trains during the summer - it must be unbearable. As for debt, I don't really know much, but money and shopping seemed to be the main theme of almost every thing on TV. The program about the host bars in Ginza where a single bottle of wine would be like 100 man en really shocked me. In the UK people use credit cards for just about everything now, and borrowing money is the norm. A lot of people have huge debts but don't care at all.
How do you feel about the situation we are put in here in this chatting thread? Do you approve of Maki chan's fan who repeatedly cliam that she comes from the heaven? Of course, she looks really cute and hot, and actually she makes me feel comfortable, but that doesn't mean he is allowed to make us queasy. We are facing the deadend when it comes to a peacefully managed thread in the English board. Do you think we should accept him or we'd better let him go?
I get it. But the problem here is, how can we do that. He also has the right to have a chat with us and have a good time talking in English. Oh, and first of all, he can stay anonymous and if he hopes he can use assumed names, there are many Maki chan's fans getting around. So all we can do is talk him out of it, isn't?
>>520 Yeah, you have a point. If he left the thread, it would go very quiet. As a matter of fact, I'm of two minds whether he should be let go or he must be here to stay. It's just like a dillenma. We have to pay some price if we want to keep this thread energetic, but we have to make more efforts to make the price as small as possible. What do you think we all get banded together and ask him to talk about other stuff than idols. I believe he's kind. You see? Talking about girls a lot doesn't make him a bad person. We have to be patient before he can control of himself. What do you say?
>>523 Another choice is, we just ignore him. I don't want to take this action to make him calm, though. But if he persists in clinging to idols, then saddly there's no other way out!
Personally, idols conversation might be conducted here. A, because it takes time to learn about what we should chat about. B, because no one can decide what should be talked about. And C, bacause for most part, males love females and females males. The thing is, he should offer us more alternatives. Maki chan is not a single idol in Japan. There are more idols we can share information with. I mean, if he knows about other idols, he must talk about them. That makes us think his knowledge will be drawn on when we want to know our own preferable idols.
>>535 >>534 Did you just forget about the Japanese language, or are you a Canadian? Anyway, my English is horrible, but I don't care so much about it, especially online, so don't feel embarassed.
>>538 Really? It's far colder than it is where I live. And welcome here. I've had talked with a few Canadian here before. They said they were learning Japanese.
You might not think your Japanese are bad. Learning another language takes great efforts. I know that, because I always feel it's tough for me to get used to English.
If I'm not mistaken, a competition of figure skate took place a few weeks ago in Canada. I wonder it was broadcast in your place as well?
Canada reminds me of maple. I watched on TV that Canadian people love to eat food with maple syrup. It took me by surprise that they poured maple syrup on meat, ham, omelets and so on. It's like soy sauce for Japanese food.
Today's newspaper says that confidential information of the police reports have been flowing on the syberspace through the software called Winny.
For those who don't hear about the software, let me tell you what it is in brief first. Winny is a computer program by which people can exchange data on your computers from one to another. And the Japanese media recently has focused on the problem that data obtained through winny sometimes contain computer virus, causing your important and secret information let loose on the net.
Today, an infected computer which belongs to a police officer uploaded crucial cop manuals and reports. And to our surprise, one of the reports showes that the police falsified documents and gave imaginary informants some money as a token of appreciation. According to the news article I read, several murder cases are cooked up and some guys were arrested on false and invented statements. Isn't that mad?
Although I haven't installed Winny because I don't know much about computer and the Japanese government told its people to delete it from your computer, there isn't no need to do so. Why? The software helped reveal the fraud scheme, which could've been carefully contained in the computer, and we wouldn't have known the gloomy side of the police.
This case shows both the power of the internet and the inadequacies of the Japanese police. If the media run with this (and aren't hushed by the government), it could be a major scandal. The police should be ashamed of themselves for being corrupt and failing to serve the people.
>>555 It's not me, but as a japanese I can guess what >>554 wanted to mean. "I should have known better than to ramble about my own situation here. Instead, it might have been better to jottle it down on my notebook." or something like that is the point he wanted to make. In a word, he put Japanese words directly into English word for word. This is my guess, but he wanted to be as deplomatic as possible with posters here. When 2ch'ers talk about something they think is beside the point or when they just want to make themselves sound polite, they often say "チラシの裏(に書くべきだった)".
I believe with all my might that the only was we can keep Maki's fan away from this thread is that we keep talking about him all the time. I found that he is really shy and hates to be referred to. Don't you think so?
>>565 Obviously not. You don't know what he believes in, how he thinks, or even what he is like. People tend to underrate him because he always brings up the subject on idols and he's full of arrogance. But they are wrong. He sure wants to get attention but at the same time, once everyone starts to pay attention to him, he feels embarrassed and keeps to himself.
Maki chan have powerful wings on her back and with them she can fly to the moon, far away from this crazy world, looking down on the earth. So I feel protected from any harm.
BoA is a south korean singer who speaks Japanese and English as well as her own mother tongue. She's not only cute but also smart. Of course, she's a good singer.
I'm a bored American who decided "What the heck, I'll talk in 2ch's ENGLISH section". So let's have a Q&A session! Unfortunatly for me, I don't know jack shit about the Japanese language, except that you call Japan "Nihon", and all Japanese men are born with both an S&M fettish and a panty fettish.
>>597 I only realized that only after posting, but had to go to class.
I noticed that although everyone's english on here is good, there are a couple of tiny errors. Here's a webpage that can help you out a lot: http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/
I don't know much about how to say things right in English. It's too tough for me to learn all the words listed in the website by heart. How can I improve my English?
>>599 A comma is only used after an introductory subordinate clause or when joining two independent clauses with a coordinating or correlative conjuction. You also should use the present perfect tense instead of past tense (i.e. "I have noticed").
>>601 I never really heard of that. The thing is, China really wouldn't want to invade America for one big reason: us Americans are China's biggest trading partner. If we went to war, where would China sell all of their cheeply made, but average quality goods?
China is far more of a threat economically than militarily (although it is certainly not slouching in that area either). No China = No Cheap Goods = Massive inflation = US Economy crashes.
Stupid question about travelling to Japan... I'm going to do voluntary work in Japan soon and I have to go with a tourist visa. So far I know that 1) Europeans can stay up to 6 months in Japan with a tourist visa. BUT, normally 3 months. 2) I need to have a return ticket if I wish to enter Japan. So I'm kinda confused here... I want to stay for 6 months, but can I have a return ticket which is dated at that time? After 3 months I'm supposed to contact the authorities or something... How is this matter usually handled in Japan?...and maybe I'm completely clueless, so pls give me advice :)
>>604 I'm way sure. President Bush launched a language program after 9/11 to the effect that language experts will be needed to study other contries' clasified information in terms of protecting the US from milirary threats.
My angel Maki chan has 2 sacred wings on her back. I can see them. You can't see them, By the way, President Bush wants to retreat thier military forces from Iraq because it is stable, democracy. But actual state of Iraq is much more danger. I think He is a bad politician.
She is falling in love with me. she wanna marry me. But she is an angel and I am an ordinary human being with something intelligent. There is a considarable gap between us. May God forgive us.
>>613 Yeah, she has beautiful wings. I saw her flying in the sky above my apartment before she ascended to me. She knocked on the door to come into my room. Of course, I let her in. She was wearing a pleading expression on her face, which gave me a loving feeling. I can't help giveing her a tight hug in return for what she's done for me. She looked enchanted. That made me all the more affectionate to her.
There seems to be lots of dorks in here who should go to mental hospitals. don't you all have better things to talk about ? I'm sick and tired of such kinds of stuff.
There are two kinds of people here. A) Those who try to share information with each other, always have an optimistic outlook on life. B) Those who doesn't have anything to talk about do nothing but to complain.
Benny's fans will have a dominant influence over the thread to see to it that Maki's fan will be ousted from here. We must fight against the demonic fan.
I don't make a discrimination of idols because of fart. As a human being, you can't expect too much about fart. Even if fart smells of nothing in perticular, it can't be so aromatic.
Have you ever undergone a MRI test? I had my brain examined by that medical test in those days. It was horrible.
I made an appointment and went to hospital. I got underground and wait for a medical professinal to call me. It was 30 minutes before I was called in a room where I got on something like a table and lay on my back. My forehead and chin were holded by straps to snsure that my head wouldn't move a little. The medical examiner got me a small hand pump so that I can give them a signal if I felt nausiea during the MRI test. After that, the board I was on moved and I went in the MRI machine. And I found it very oppressing in there, what with powerful magnatic wave and a continuous huge buzz as if I were at a construction site. What's more, this is a complete mistery to me, but I felt as if something hit my forehead repeatedly, not physically, but I felt an invisible hummer hit it. Nearly 20 minutes had passed before the test got finished. It was a nightmare.
Fortunately, though, it turned out that there was nothing wrong with my brain. By the way, you want to know how much it was to get through the medical checkup, don't you? It's some 5000 yen.
Ah, I thought medical examiners are people who use medical mathines and see how good/bad patients are. But I seemed wrong. I just used google searching engine and learned about what they are. Could you tell me how to describe a person who uses a medical machine in English? I didn't find out by myself.
English is too hard for me to learn. There are millions of words I have to know to convey what I want to say.
>>649 Well, aren't there alot of Kanji out there as well? You don't have to learn the meaning of every word. Sometimes even I don't know the meaning of the words I use, I just know when it's appropriate to use them.
>>648 5000 yen for an MRI is nothing. In the US, it would be more like 50,000 yen (if not more) for someone without insurance (we have no national health care here). I've never had to have one (thankfully), but I sympathise.
>>649 I believe than an MRI operator would be a radiologist. Radiologists also use CAT scans and X-Rays. The general term would be medical technician.
>>652 A radiologist is a medical doctor whose specialty is reading and interpreting X-Ray, CT, MRI, PET, etc. results.
The person running the machine is called a technologist/technician. They generally only have about the same medical training as a paramedic or nurse and a lot of training on operating the equipment.
YOu are cherry boys who haven't had a girlfriend for a few dozens years. But don't worry then. You can solve your horny feelings with your routine of wanking.lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol
The joy of being anonymous on this board is that I don't have to be embarrassed about failing to make the distinction despite being a native speaker...
If you make an appraisal form by a numerical rating based on a scale of one to five, with five being outstanding, four being excellent, three being meets expectations, two being acceptable, and one being poor, then which do you rate about this thread?
I'd say the recent drop in the number of the posters here has also made new people discouraged to participate in this chatting thread. We should stimulate as many people as possible to get the thread busy.
>>679 Ayaya.. What do you like her about? I don't mean to be presumptuous, but she's a cutie girl. You don't want to be tricked again, do you? Yukorin, Tenkarin, Emma, Maki...You've been decieved many times.
Ishihara Shintaro, the governor of Tokyo, stated today that he had a concern about the fact that English would be taught in elementary school, also said it was more important to learn Japanese and that school kids couldn't learn about any knowledge on foregien contries until they mastered Japanese.
I was truly disappointed that one of the influential leader of Japan had a terrible thing in mind. I thought my ear deceived me.
How dare he can make any comment on educational matters, now that he's decided to close down half of the evening schools even though the UN asked him to try his best not to do so. He shouldn't have said that.
The aggresive and derogatory governor once said the French language was no longer worthy of learning because English became a common language and fewer french speakers were in the world, which comment must be criticized if I'm not mistaken.
>>683 Well, to tell you the truth, French really is useless outside France and some African countries. I studied French at high school but found it useless.
Besides, Japanese is a lot closer to my heart. Beautiful language!
Personally, I believe that it's important to start students on foreign languages as early as is possible, as it gets progressively harder with age. As somebody who didn't have to seriously learn a second language until university, I wish I'd been able to start earlier (although I also know that I did not have the self-discipline necessary at that earlier point).
>>703 That's not acceptable in Japan. It's baned by the civil code. Becky is surly a half Japanese, as Benny is. But their looks are completely different from each other. As a matter of fact, Becky's dad comes from English while Benny's dad is an American. I'll buying Benny. Oh, hey, why don't you choose Becky for yourself?
>>704 Shut! stupid penis shaker! Benny, Becky, Saki Fukuda, Saki Aibu, Kyoko Hasegawa, Sayuri Iwata, Aya Ueto ,Yuri Ebihara. They are my wives! You should put up with your cock!
I meant ペネロペクルス. I don't know the spell. She is the best girl I have ever met. This is the first time I reveal my feeling. My face is now like an tomato. ( ^ω^)
>>744 To be honest, although I know next to nothing about video games, I have played RPGs, English or Japanese, that amature programmers created and have distributed for nothing. Most of them are graphically not so well made, but some of them have really interesting senarios.
I feel much the same way. I don't like video games very much, but I find myself unable to avoid having to follow the gaming news because I have a number of friends who work in the gaming industry (both as programmers and in promotions, press, publishing). The only kind of games that I really like are puzzle games like Puyo Puyo or Tetris and music games like Dance Dance Revolution.
A couple of my friends are hooked on World of Warcraft, though. They also like Type Moon games, despite being unable to read them. =)
I hated doing homework until I got to university. Once you start doing research and study things that you actually enjoy, it gets to be a lot more fun.
Then start going to work and wish you were back in school.
I thought that too once I decided on my major in university (History) and found myself doing statistics as a contract worker. At least I can make the computer do the really hard work for me. You won't need to do calculus on a regular basis in most jobs, but the basics really are important.
If only I could use my German as regularly as my math.
>>754 Sorry to interupt, but I've heard before that the EU tried to creat a history textbook that intergrades all europian histories into one that all peoples in the EU can share with each other such as German and France. I thought it took great efforts to have the same perspective. So I'm curious to know how well it went.
As for Japan, South Korea and China, I heard some historians are working side by side trying to write a new history book now.
I haven't heard about that, but it doesn't surprise me. The EU is a bizarre socio-political environment in that it wants standards across the Union for things like commerce and basic laws, but also calls for individualism in promoting and protecting national heritage. My guess is that this project may succeed for general history classes, but that students will still be required to take a couple years of localised national history.
For what it's worth, I live in the US, and the history textbooks here are pretty terrible. I haven't had to look at one for a few years, but they lack depth in order to cover 200-600 years (American/European history) in the academic year. A lot of the things I found most interesting in History at University (German unification, the decline of the Habsburg monarchy, the Dutch rebellion) were barely mentioned or omitted entirely from the high school curriculum (though I did have two years of American History that covered similar events, just in more depth later on). European history was entirely optional at my high school, and the only Asian history class (Japanese/Chinese/Korean)was not only optional, but taught as a generic "World History" class which included Africa, the US, and major European events.
I would be very interested in reading a combined Asian history book.
>>758 I see. Now that the UE is one of the biggest communities in the world, both commercially and politically, it needs shared veiw on history. At the same time, though, the more integrated textbooks are for general history class, the more emphasis will be put on a localised national history. The same would go for Japan. If the Asian history book is written, I doubt it will be adopted as a schooltext book.
It's something like that. In the US, local history is taught early on. I had city and state history in elementary school, and we began (basic) world and national history in middle school.
European history is a lot more complicated, though. Because Europe (as most people think of it) consists of about 20-30 independent nations, there's not an overarching "European" history that stands on its own. There are some areas that can be generalised (Roman Empire, Middle Ages, Napoleon, World Wars), but even then regional differences are more notable versus, say, the US civil war where things were similar across the North and across the South. I took a class once on the role of the knight in medieval Europe, and the structure of the fighters and Nobility were radically different in England, France, Germany, etc.
If I were putting together an EU program, I would do general survey twice - once before National history to enable a generic timeline, and then again afterwards in order to show how things come together.
The aliens can be worms, not being developed to the shape of human being so, maybe they can't read a textbook. It's likely that textbook made of paper is what they eat, not what they read.^^
How stupid I am writing these silly things in the middle of the night. No wonder I am out of job. I think I better hit the sack now. Thanks for your company.^^
Your teacher was right. A rule is a rule. If your hair grows and looks messy, you should have your hair cut. You should obey him. If you don't, then you'll be expelled.
Only if it's really wrong, though. In this case, the man with long hair looks too creapy to get near and he touches his hair quite often. He can't concentrate on anything because of his messy hair. So nothing wrong with the rule. He should ask his mom to cut it short immediately.
>>783 Youcan't be a male angel. You remain a stupid NEET who always jerks off.. lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lo l lo l lol lol And Maki is not yours! she is mine. Mitsuura Yasuko is yours.

>>796 Oh, you'd better get a grip on yourself. How many times have you been decieved by my angel? I'd like to express sorry for what she's done for you. Please don't stop sticking to her after you know she's tricked you.

We no longer prefer to confront reality directly for long age we learned and accepted the fact that reality has for all practical purposes become unmanageable. Instead we have turned our energies to the proliferation and production of endless amounts of unreality to soothe our tired and fractured egos. this woman must be just like me, when she was a 17yo girl! I wish I could met her back then.
Hello! I am an English teacher in Japan and I run an English club. I am trying to engage my students in fun and "cool" ways to use English, and I thought teaching them about zines and having them make their own bilingual zines would be fun for them.
hey! now I give u some discussion about politics!!! Britain both could have and should have stayed out of the second world war leaving Soviet union to crush hitler's germany.

According to a TV report today, a South Korean male who was reportedly kidnapped by North Korea proved to be the husband of Megumi Yokota. The husband's DNA corresponds with their daughter. That usually would lead Japan and S.Korea to work side by side to save them from NK, but things wouldn't seem to be easier. In Japan, kidnapping has become a big problem and people are paying attention to what would happen next, but it's different from SK. Because SK has been trying to make friends with NK and hopefully to get one country again, they has almost overlooked the problem so far, as Japan didn't touch on it for long. What action do you think the both of the government should take next? If we go hard on NK, they may go away from the meeting held somewhere for NK to give up the development of nuclear weapon. If we are soft on the country, they will never let kidnapped people free.
From what I saw on TV, NBC, one of the American networks, broadcast a news report that Megumi Yokota was taken away from Japan about 20 years ago and she's still forced to live in NK, which has ambitions to have nuclear weapon in hand to threaten surrounding countries.
I hear that an American couple created a documentary film named the story of Megumi, and it sort of attacted attention.
We must stop quarreling and finally conclude important matter whether Maki Horikita is an angel who owns 2 pretty wings on her back, or not. she is an ordinary girl
I think that it would be good to continue having a casual English conversation thread (vs. the Information Exchange thread which is more academic in nature). If someone creates it, though, they would probably be wise to also create a "Discuss Idols in English" thread at the same time.
