>>80 Tsai Ming-Liang is a director....a famous guy hey, you know a lot, good! >>82 that's why I want to find the deleter(苦笑) I didn't yell at anybody there but he did. and he said that I did. God help us! hmm...I'll handle this, boys and girls, wish you good dreams.
>>84 I like his movies a lot. what do you think about his movies? and what taiwanese people thinks about him? I heard his latest film (wayward cloud) were popular in taiwan and some people at presentation yelled at tsai ming liang, because they wanted to see porn stuff lol. also tsai ming liang is very famous director worldwide. and I think he is one of the best asian director working today. I also know Hsiao-hsien Hou (but I dont like his films very much) and edward yang...
>>86 you like his movies? I'm surprised. in Taiwan, most of people like Japanese dramas/movies more. (for example: "shinobi" "otaku" "all about my dogs" ) especially Japanese TV programs.. so...Mr.tsai only have few audience...(smile) about 20~30 year-old youths think his movies too difficult, too art.
>>90 hehe.. I've seen every movie by Tsai Ming-Liang and liked all of his movies(except goodbye dragon Inn, i dont really get it). his collaboration with Lee Kang Sheng is just amazing. he is a wonderful actor... Tsai's films are more known in europe and maybe in america...

ok..i see what you feel. but you could think ALL of American,English,Australian peopele are not so. various people are in one nation, like various people are on the earth.
>>117 Why don't you give it up and leave for another one? People in this thread are: 1) Yukorin's fans 2) other idol's fans like Kimura Kaela/Britney Spires and so on. 3) Evil posters
I sometimes came into good-natured people like Mr Shit before, but now he left. After his leaving, I noticed I expected much from those who turned out to be the evil.
>>118 I can't answer to your question...sorry because i came this thread yesterday for the first time. so i don't much about this thread, I meant that I felt uncomfortable with another thread of 2ch by last message.
according to a reserach study, Scotland is the most violent developed country in the world. But American still shoot each other more and kill each other. Scottish people just fight more or assault each other without weapons
>>141 Yukorin can't be bothered to go there, but as regard to Ryoko Hirosue, she was admitted to it though she retired... Which do you like better? Cute Yukorin?
Concerning fart, it's said that Yukorin's is very aromatic, as you know. But how about Ryoko's? We can't decide which woman is better as long as we don't have the information on their fart. At the time, though, I, for one, vote for Yukorin because we've already known her fart smells like vanilla.
I serched on Google by those phrases above, and it turn out to be very rare that fart smells like vanilla. Honestly, I can't believe human fart is so aromatic.
Aoi Miyazaki is the only girl to cure my melancholy, on the other hand you and Yukorin are increasing my anger because you are stupider and more ignoble than I thought.
>>180 And you'll still be a boring person. You probably won't even enjoy you're job. You probably don't study anything useful. You probably don't study at all actually.
I know a girl who likes to sewing very much, and she can draw too so she is goes to design college. she will be working in fashion industry.. sometimes I get envy... bad.
>>185 no, not in that way.. I just dont like sad girls, because I can be sad sometimes and I hate that feelings, so how I can like sad girls? no way I can
>>198 I dont believe you. In america there are a lot of colleges. like poor community college(right name?) is crap compared to Harvard,Princeton and Yale...
>>197 Pamela Anderson isn't attractive at all. She actually quite plain looking without her make-up. Not to mention that she has, in my opinion, looks very "worn out" like a porn star.
I think Mr. Wada Sun Magic is a legendary student of Waseda university. His reputation has been established not only in Japan but also all over the world. He is a great rapist. Therefore every student at Waseda is proud of him. Waseda university is also famous for Ryoko Hirosue who dubiously entered and shamelessly dropped out of there. Filally, former professor Kazuhide Uekusa was the most respected person in Waseda university. Unfortunately, he was arrested for peeping a school girl's underwear using a hand mirror, but most of the students of Waseda believe he is absolutely innocent. These three people are definitely typical of Waseda.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Scared-stiff astronomers have detected a mysterious mass they've dubbed a "chaos cloud" that dissolves everything in its path, including comets, asteroids, planets and entire stars -- and it's headed directly toward Earth!
Discovered April 6 by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory, the swirling, 10 million-mile- wide cosmic dust cloud has been likened to an "acid nebula" and is hurtling toward us at close to the speed of light -- making its estimated time of arrival 9:15 a.m. EDT on June 1, 2014.
"The good news is that this finding confirms several cutting- edge ideas in theoretical physics," announced Dr. Albert Sherwinski, a Cambridge based astrophysicist with close ties to NASA.
"The bad news is that the total annihilation of our solar system is imminent."
>>238 Actually in Korea they spell it Corea. There is a movement in Korea to have the world offically recognize it as Corea and in the last olympics the Korean baseball team had Corea written on their jerseys. Or it might have been the Asian baseball championships from before the olympics. I forget.
>>190 Bridget Jones was not supposed to be attractive or sexy. That was the point of the character. Rene Zellweger had to make herself chubby and use bad make-up to make herself look such a way.
This is this the forum for matters relating to the English language. As you can see that doesn't really mean talking must be done in English. This is really the only section that English is used a lot.
Nope, oddly enough I can only understand spoken word. And very little at that. Sad story: Since I was 14 I had a hard time at school and spent most of my time from then on watching anime and playing Japanese RPGs. The anime I've watched was subtitled in English but the Japanese words slowly became familiar. I've been watching subtitled anime for 5 years now and most conversations are familiar to me.
To be blatantly honest I have no interest in Japan. And I know Japan is nothing like in anime. I don't like crowded places so Japan would be hell for me.
Yeah I never said I wanted to come there. I also wouldn't complain about my virgin status. The only people who do that are people who prioritize it in life. I've never binded myself to the world's standards.
Anyway I was reading through the forums and something scared me which was the mention of how farts smell. Let me assure you that no woman can make her fart smell like roses or vanilla. Hahaha.
>>265 No matter what you say the Yukorin fan-boys will never stop believeing that her farts smell of vanilla. Many have tried to make them stop but it is impossible. And she is not so cute I feel.
I have a Japanese girl fetish or so my friends say. I'm more attracted to Japanese women because to me they seem more innocent than the bitchy women we have here. But it could be another case of misunderstanding.
>>267 Yes you have been convinced of an image that is not really the reality. Japanese woman are often very bitchy. There is a demand for girls who seem innocent and pure so men often hold this as the ideal even though it is usually an act. But that is why we have idols here, to keep the innocent Japanese woman image alive. I get sick of it though
Can we have an English thread where Yukorin isn't brought up?
Seriously, it's getting old. If you got to talk about her, start your own thread. Call it, "Lonely Virgins Talk about Yuko Ogura in English Part 13" and eave the rest of us out of it
Once I thought if I have a girlfriend. But it is impossible to go with a girl because I have a poor skill of communication and bad looks. Today, I deside to study English harder.
Can we talk about how lame otaku are? I think otaku interests are extremely unhealthy, and this moe thing... Man it's like otaku keep creating things that will make it less likely for them to ever experience relationship with a real female.
I can't believe some foreigner are trying to be like Japanese otaku. It's like a flu that is spreading through the world.I think there are much better thing to do in America and the rest of the world. What is the point of basing your life around cartoon?
I was introverted from the birth, I didnt get along with peer since early childhood. I always be with myself. I started to play video games a lot. I liked it a lot more then talk with peers. Then I start to watch anime I liked mostly SF but I like drama type too, My favourite is evangelion! When I watch anime I feel alive, not like wasting off my days, I am sad all the times when I am not watch anime.
>>311 I think most foreigners who say they are otaku don`t really know what it means. In America, some people think it is a compliment. For the most part, American `otaku` are good people, not obsessed freaks. Of course, there are some obsessed freaks too...
>>320 every foreigner who liked anime, i saw on this board was 100% just like japanese otaku. and dont forget that otakus in japan appeared after star trek geeks in america. so birth place of otakus is not japan, but america.
Here is a page of a foreigner who dislikes otaku, and on his links he has more links to other foreigners who dislike otaku. I think they make many good points, and understand the delusional nature of foreigner otaku well.
otaku haters are geeks too. what's the typical portrait of modern youth? A careless guy, who dont thinks very much about useless things(like anime, otaku, etc) who enjoying himself, friends, party, clubs, drinks and other social activity. a typical youth dont even have a time/need for such stupid discussion. it's calles social activity!
Hmmm... I may have some otaku behavior like being in a lot playing video games and watching anime but I have a beautiful girlfriend and a job so I don't give a shit what anyone thinks.
>>326 Some of those articles are a racist against Japan, but they are right about otaku. Foreign otaku are the worse because they can't fit in with their own culture and society, and have a fantasy that they can fit in with foreign culture of Japan.
Jeez, people, not the whole otaku discussion again! Yes, some people hate otakus and other don't. Some otakus claim they are not while as people who aren't otaku claim they are. Whatever, it is very obvious that nobody at this board will change their opinion, so lets move to a less inflamed subject!
So, what is it like where you live, and would you rather live somewhere else? In that case, where?
I live in a reasonably big city for Sweden, the third largest one, less than half a million inhabitants though. Citywise, i'm pretty pleased with it. Not too crowded, but more than lively enough - there's always something going on. However I would want to move to London, but that is only because of my boyfriend.
If foreigners have the fantasy that Japanese like otaku, I have a revelation: they are hate,if an otaku reveals that he is otaku in his place of employment he will be given the worse job in the company.
Japanese dislike otaku because otaku aren't good people. The infamous child rapist and murderer was an otaku named Tsutomu Miyazaki, the Aum Cult which attacked Japanese subway with sarin gas and is responsible for numerous murders including the murder of a one year old child were comprised of many otaku.
Why would a human being completely shut himself off from his society, and spend his life fantasizing about animated young girls? These people are timebombs waiting to explode, the best we can hope for is that they stay away from us.
Sure, some animation is good, the films of Hayao Miyazaki are "blockbusters" but these are entertainment, they are meant to make you think a little and maybe influence the pattern of your life, not take over your life until you have none. They device for storytelling like books, and film. That's all.
And let's speak the truth, unlike book or film lovers: otaku #1 concern is how sexy a heroine is, and if her figure will have a panties visible or something like that. Their concern for story or some such thing is not important as their love for drawings of girls. They drool over cartoon high school girl, but when otaku was in high school he was sitting quiet alone, not talking toanyone or looking to date with girls.
I hate otakus too. They are simply a waste of space. What 336 said is true. They are sexually starved perverts who dont know what to do with their life other than stay inside. American otaku are terrible though, because they think that they are japanese. they alienate themselves both ways 1)being obssessed with cartoons 2)thinking they are part of another nation
Im not an otaku and I do think they are obssesive a lot of the time but...
since none of you will ever know every single otaku there is no way you can reach any accurate conclusion about them. all you can do it speak your opinions that are probably not really based on facts but just based on prejudice or hatred.
You probably have never even met or talked with an otaku so there is really no way you can undertand them or know what you are talking about. I say just leave them be
I have a perfect solution for the Japanese and Korean dispute of Takeshima/Dokdo islands. Make this international habitat of otaku. Just settle those otaku on the rocks, give them notebook pc's and let them play games and touch themselves until they are content.
We should change the name of the rock island=takeshima into Yukorin island! Queen is Yukorin. I am Prime Minister. You are people who work for agriculture! GDP might count for 1 dollar. We should settle new Korin-Constitution! Our Queendom country is probably the paradise!
Do you think the parents of otaku are to blame for not raising their children to be active members of society? I think if Japan got a little tougher with children like parents of other countries there would be less otaku, neet's, hiki, etc.
i think hiki's are better than otaku, at least hikki not bother anyone except parents. otaku bother the whole country with their stupid gatherings, anime songs, and other thing.
I think you Japanese people suffer more from otakus. In America people who play games a lot and stuff act normal and don't have creepy gatherings unless you're talking about our form of otakus which is much worse than yours. Ours are people dressed like Cloud and Sephiroth with sacks of fat hanging out of their clothes and shit. It's fucking scary.
I don't see what's so creepy about a bunch of people shooting each other and I can't think of any other games that would involve gatherings if it was MMORPGs, that still wouldn't be creepy since they aren't fapping to anime girls.
Americans misuse "otaku". They think it's just a bunch of dumb nerds, like "Trekkies". Actually, it is a bunch of creepy, sex-obsessed perverts, like "furries".
THE FUCKING LAST POST ABOUT WHY OTAKUS SUCKS! what is anime? anime is just TV show created to entertain kids and teens. they are not showing life, or they rarely have artistics vision. pure entertaiment(I know, that movies are entertainment too, but movies show more life, and some movies are art). But many otakus consider anime as main part of their life! TV show for children "Card Captor Sakura" was wildy popular amongs otakus. How can it be interesting for an adult or late teen to watch such show? SF animes are another thing. in the whole world SF is popular amongs nerdy IT guys, because they dont like life, so it's some kind of escape...
>>356 Anime in Japan means any form of animation. In America it means Japanese animation. It does not only mean childrens/teen cartoons in Japan.
You have no grasp of logic. You're arguement makes no sense and it sort of hypocritical. There have been examples of anime that have artistic appeal and anime as a medium has been used to make statements on the human condition.
I agree with you that it seems strange that shows like Card Captor were popular by more than children, that does not make your statement anymore rational.
Plus many people become obsessed over many different things. How is a person who is shut off from society by only watching movies and different or better than an otaku? You're reasonsing is based only on your hatred of otaku not on fact or on logical reasoning.
I don't like otaku way of life, but its is there choice so I say they can do what they want and I leave them alone and accept their choice.
>>368 What If I will try to walk in college area in USA and ask some people what they think about geeks(otaku in english) and nerds? everybody will say "We absolutely hate them". this is not prejudice.
>>369 You have to walk to an elementary school for people in American to answer like that. If you asked such a question to american college students they would think you are the crazy one.
>>370 i know that walking and asking is stupid. but if it will be some kind of survey or something like that. I am sure most of the people will say that they hate nerds and geeks.
>>379 sure you can. but it is still a form of prejudice. but you are free to like or dislike anything you choose. but don't assume every one feels the same or try to make everyone feel the way you do.
Well, it really depends on what you are there for. Tokyo is by far the best location for work and for establishing a living. Hong Kong is really nothing but a crazy and a busy place both to live and to work. London is where I pretty much grew up, so I guess I would call it home...
>>418 The point is, Yukorin is not a butt of jokes. Rather, she will be joking on you. Yukorin is so cheerful and energetic that anyone who meets her will be impressed and motivated to back her up.
>>436 21 years old, I guess. Not to change the subject, but I wonder why I come across those who don't know about Yukorin in this thread. We can't have so many overseas people here. Naturally, the idea that Yukorin is yet to be going hard way comes to me..
>>446 Ok. Incidentally, I'm very happy that you too are taking a liking to her. BUT I must tell you a thing. She looks absolutely pretty outside, though her fart smells like vanilla!! You can believe me. She said so.
>>453 What? She's not a liar!! What she said must be true. The news magagines told me that when asked about her fart, she answered to an interviwer that her fart was very aromatic like vanilla!!
>>458 I don't mean that it is a lie that she said such a thing. I mean it is a lie that her farts smell of vanilla. Such a thing is not possible. She was lying because it is part of her stupid girl act
>>467 But that's the whole point of an Idol. That you will never meet these girls IS the point. They are symbols of what each and individual one of these fanatic fans create in their minds as their perfect girl.
Let's go back to herself, and no fart anymore please. My question is: What made Yukorin that beautiful? Her parents look nice, too? if not, was she surgically improved? What's your opinion? Any guessing work will be ok.
Among some extreme Japanese anime funs in Shanghai, many Japanese idols have been idealized and considered the models of perfect girls. Maybe they share some similar ideas with the Japanese otaku people here. But I want to rather learn about other Japanese subcultures besides idoles.
If I'm not mistaken, there's a website which deals with ping-pong girls, I mean, girls who play table tennis. The TV news said Fukuhara Ai is sort of popular. I doubt it, though.
Well, you guys are interested in how the Shanghainese extereme Japanese subculture funs are looking at the Japanese idols.
The most famous girls are Matsuura Aya, Utada hilkaru and Ayumi Hamazaki. But I heard that except for Matsusura Aya, others already so much popularity in Japan over there, am I right?
after some talks with foreigners in this thread I came to belief, that many of them are arrogant when they talks about japan. they are look down on japan, like they are superior to japan... but not all foreigners are like that
I think many foreigners look down on all the idol talk because in Europe and America there is not really idol system like in Japan so they consider Japanese men as nerds.
>>501 I think you are talking about the little girl who plays table tennis I know her.
Oh, people here are so nice. I went to several other threads and posted couple of times but all they talked about was the political conflicts beteween china and Japan. this made me sick because I basically don't give a shit about stupid politics and I just want to learn about your cool country. I like your country so much and think we have so much things to learn from your country.
>>507 Wake up and smell the coffee. Yukorin never pretended. How can you be sure? She always thinks straight and is so honest that she can be easily deceived into doing what her manager told her to. She is sort of green, but even so we can't resist her charm.
>>518 how can you dont understand it? in america they have britney spears with no talent. but people likes her songs, her songs made people "happy" in japan some guys are happy because they see images of pretty idols, who are talentless like britney. "getting happy" is the key
>>511 Let me take an example: Inoue Waka with greatly ample cleave. Her big breasts made her greatly popular in Japan. But what else can she do? This happens a lot: Idols will never wear a bathing suit in front of the public after they get popular! I'm sick and tired of it.
Thanks. We have lots of things to learn from Your country. Just like Japan learnt from China in ancient times, now your country is our teacher in many aspects.
I have started to learn Japanese since I was a high school student and continued to do so for 5 years. I think this is a opinion which so many shanghainese share. Actually, wherever you go in Shanghai, you encounter with many Japanese subcultures and everyone likes it.
>>525 Especially with the Olympics coming up in '08 and the Expo in '10, the internationalization that China is going through currently is amazing. I would like to closely observe the different phases China will go through in the coming few years.
Hello Japanese people or konnichiwa! I'm an American but all my friends call me Tsubasa-san. I love Japanese culture, especially anime and manga. I would like to visit Japan and possibly live there because I feel like I don't belong in America. It sounds weird but I feel Japanese. Well, dewa mata!
>>533 You can buy that stuff like DVD or magazine everywhere. Taiwanese, Japanese and America's porns are expecially popular, actually kind of omnipresent. I think pornographic is the more common language than English in the world.
I have a question to you guys. In English, the color pink is the connotation of pornograhic but in chinese it is yellow. Actually, in chinese, porn is called ,huansede, meaning yellow. In Japan, I heard the connotation of pink color is also porn just like English. But Is is true?
>>554 Well, there are some around but none are, in any way, close to the quality of the Japanese AV's. The country, on paper, does ban the production of pornos and hence there is not enough demand or budget in the first place to go into production.
>>567 You know that kind of freaky teenager who imagine Japan through anime. I would like more intelligent people who have the skills to fit in to their own culture but coming to Japan to learn about the culture of Japan. Not someone called "Tsubasa-san"
Guess I am sad that no other country have this. No one visit France because they saw France in some stupid cartoon, they visit to experience new country.
Im looking for a Bento Box, it cant be pinku (thats japanese for pink) or any girl color. It has to be of 2 or more kotoba (thats japanese for 2 compartments) and has to be chibi (small) sized. And has to be really kawaii (cute). Also It has to be about 10-20 bux. And you have to post pics of it first (i want to make shure it's kawaii (cute)). And it would be nice if it came with matching chopstick holder (WITH chopsticks). OH! and it CANNOT have any cartoon pictures, or be made out of plastic. It has to be made of ceramic, or something like that. Also it would be nice if it was made in japan. and not in china or corea (korea) or whatever. I have found a Bento Box similar to the one im describing in e-bay, but it was 1 kotoba, and i dont want my gohan (rice) to touch my other things (it can get wet and i would not like that, plus 2 compartments looks more kawaii)
Japanese should not be so arrogant and atagonistic toward its neighboring countries since Japanese cultures are from Korean peninsula. They should pay respect the Koreans because unlike Japanese, the Koreans are the creators of great civilizations.
In history, Japan was always the protectorate of Korean civilization and such political treand will come back again in the near future.
Japan is a little brother of barbaric America right now. You don't have to worry about it because soon Korea will once again rise as great civilization and will rescue Japanese.
Japan once invaded our country but our country will generously save the Japanese because we are very the civilized people on earth.
Oh, you pathetic and inferior Japanese are simply not capable enough to understand our grand cause. Don't worry, once you belong to our great Korean civilization, you will be more cultured.
I heard her ancestry is rooted in Korea. So she is a Japan-born Korean resident. I think we have to admire and thank korean people for giving us such wonderful beauty.
If Korea is so great, why it copy all trend of Japan for money? Create your own things. Koreans are those who are barbaric and racist, you have worse legal system in the world. There is no such thing as "truth" in Korea.
Hi, I'm an American interested about the politics of Japan. What is the political spectrum in Japan like? For instance, we have two mainstream political parties: the Republicans and Democrats. The Republicans are mostly conservatives who generally believe in the following principles: 1. Religion should be included in public life. 2. America should have an aggressive foreign policy, and should spread democracy all around the world. 3. Abortion is murder. 4. The country should have less economic control over people (for example, less taxes). The Democrats are mostly liberals who generally believe in the following: 1. Religion is a private matter. 2. America should be more diplomatic and less aggressive, but they also believe that America has to promote democracy all over the world.(Hence borth parties are very supportive of Israel 3. That abortion is a choice, not murder. 4. That the government has an obligation to help the poor.
There are also extreme people on the right who believe religion should be included in the government, and extreme people on the left who believe America should be more like a socialist European society. These extremes sometime support the two mainstream parties, and sometimes they support their own underground parties like the leftist Green Party.
Oliver Queen. Carter Hall. Cassandra Cain. Billy Batson. Steve Rogers. Jennifer Walters. Scott Free. Luke Cage. Norrin Radd. Donald Blake. Johnny Blaze.
>>547 Erm. Yeah. "Pink bits" is a reasonably popular term, I guess.
I have to admit that the Japanese stuff is generally better. American stuff has a much greater tendency to be gross. At least the Japanese idol culture means that there's a strong culture that values beauty over blatant cultural deviance.
>>603 Idols culture does not value beauty. Idols are not scouted for "beauty." They are scoted to fulfill a manufactured "cute" image. If you look at most idols they really do not have extraordinary looks.
And I would say Japanese stuff is often much more gross than American and there is greater emphasis placed on marking woman as inferior if not demeaning them.
>>627 I don't think she looks old. She looks very good for 35. Very sexy indeed. Yukorin is sort of cute, but Aya is definately more beautiful. Sugimoto also is very free and lives her life well it seems. Yukorin is just so boring to compare.
>>626 I'm sorry to say, but everytime Sugimoto was on TV, she says erotic kind of things, not very smart. She's just a whore. Why do you find her interesting?
Why should she stay in a marriage she when she was not happy? For her getting divorce seems okay, and she is happy with her life so good for her. You just want woman to be your servant.
Whoever looked at her photos, even American, English, Chinese, said Yukorin was a really gorgeous, charming girl. So if she get into communities outside Japan, she'll get popular and successful.
Yukorin looks very healthy and cheerful. She would be kind enough to teach the Japanese language if asked by non-Japanese people. So I strongly recommend to Japanese learners that you try to get access to her website and read her. You'll find her nice and cute more than you expect.
How about Sugimoto Aya? It seems like she's very popular here. In my opinion, it interests as many people as talks about Yukorin to discuss what's Aya's charming points or what is not.
Sugimoto Aya Only Sexy? Sure, she put off her clothing and showed off her perfect figure, and get attention from males. She's like a porno star. BUT look at the way she talks! She knows a lot about how to please males! Aya is an entertainer as well as a sexy show girl! I bet she'll survive in the show biz.
Yukorin Only cute? Sure, her smiles attacted males so far, and her fart reportedly smells very good. But look at the way she talks! She's more silly/ out of her mind than innocent! Can Yukorin survivee in the show biz for the next several years?
I agree Yukorin will have no career very soon. Her act is too annoying so when she is 24 or 25 no one will want to hear her voice anymore. She is not interesting so she will go soon.
I watched some of amateur american photo sites and noticed something. they want to reproduct cliches they saw in hollywood movies or in fashion photos they rarely see. that makes me sad..
Those people have millions of dollars, personal make-up artists, and people who pick out their clothing. You will never be like them, because you don't have that money.
yes, but I can be stylish. I can spend money on fashion needs. for those you think publish tons of fashion magazines? for people who wants to be better
You should have a balance in your life. You should care about your appearance, and the way you dress is important, but it should not be the only thing you care about. The perfect person is one who is well looking, and smart.
If a girl is only pretty and stylish but very stupid, she will get boring quickly because you'll have nothing to talk about.
I think smart persons(smart-asses) are the most boring persons ever. they have one special thing they care for(like computers, litherature) but if I want to know about computers and litherature I can read magazine or book! I dont want to have such peers, who are more like walking encyclopedia then persons! All I care about is personality, not their knowleague okay, I am starting to being smartass now too must stop
A smart person has knowledge of the world, and culture. This means they will always have something to discuss. Okay, your point about personality doesn't make any sense to me.Some smart people have a great personality, some smart people have a terrible personality. Some stupid people have a great personality, some stupid people have a terrible personality. Smart means you went to a good university, had good grades and you like to gain knowledge about the world. It doesn't mean you are some stupid otaku who only cares about one thing.
If you only care about one thing you are not smart, you are shallow.
i don't know, i like the artsy kind of girls, they are a little crazy but i don't care. those fashion girls, they are no good for me. they will spend all their time shopping and on doing make up. what is point? all that clothes and make-up will come off once we get in bed.
>>703 You see thing in black and white. There isn't only two types of people: smart and stupid. There are people in between who did well in school, have good jobs, but don't spend all their free time studying or reading.Smart people don't know how to have fun.
>>705 I agree with you! dont be tricked. this is stereotypes that can be applied to drama shows, but not to real life. I think everybody should be more creativity and more free! be positive
I've been wondering something about Japanese society (I'm Russian, living in America). Are otaku considered to be on the bottom of society? Like, not as bad as outlaws, but the worst of all people who follow the law? I'm not sure what the American equivalent of that would be, I guess very fat people. People that are very very fat are usually made fun of and disrespected. But everyone is becoming fat, so maybe that will chage.
>>713 I don't know, overhere there is a phrase, "it's hip to be square," which means it's kind of cool to be a geek. Geeks aren't considered to be the worst kind of people here.
>>714 It's true. Right now emo-geeks are sort of cool in America. And comic books and people who read comics are not being looked down on as they once were.
There is also a boom of American cartoons that are targeting people in the late teens to early 30's like Family Guy, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken, Oblongs etc. Things that were once considered geeky in America are now either considered normal or sort of cool
For example, a few years ago at the Oscars (movie awards, if you don't know) the actress Liv Tyler wore glasses and looked kind of geeky, and the next day everyone at my job was talking about her, saying she looked like a "sexy librarian." I don't think Japanese people will say that anyone looks like a "sexy otaku" that's why I'm not sure if geek and otaku are equivalent.
Hey! are you stupid or what? sexy emo geeks are not geeks! I saw some of them in american magazines. are you so naive to think they are geeks? No they are beautiful people just with "geeky" style. it's dont mean they are looks like geeks.
>>716 Comic books aren't looked down upon now because so many good movies have been based on comic books. People enjoy the movie Spiderman or Ghost World, and then feel like reading the comic books that they were based on.
>>720 That's what I'm trying to say, that there is such a thing as "geeky fashion" .. Is there an "otaku fashion" in Japan? If a sexy girl dresses up like a typical otaku, will people think she is sexy?
>>725 well if that what you mean, I think we dispute on meanings of words. and not on subject. By otaku and geels I mean ugly people with poor social skills. that type of people are not popular anywhere
>>720 Those are models. Not real emo-geeks. Real emo-geeks are still considered geeks even if magazines have copied their fashion. In fact a lot emo-fans are regularly called emo-fags, especially by punks. MTV has and magazines have decided that emo is the new punk rock and it really pisses a lot people off.
>>720 You see one magazine and think you know what you're talking about? Are you retarded. You're not an American, you don't live there. You have no idea what you're talking about. Emo-geeks are considered geeks a lot of the time. Take a trip and go find out.
>>727 There are different kind of ugly people with no social life. My father, he is scary looking and has no friends, but that's because he's a former army officer and prison guard so he treats everyone like a prisoner. I don't think he's a geek though.
Ugly face or beautiful face doesn't matter, sometimes you put on nice clothes, make up, get a cool hair cut and make the impression that are your trendy. However, you're still ugly.Did you see candid photograph of models, some are so ugly.
>>737 I don't think you can judge anything because you not actually in America to hear what girls think about emo-geeks. Its often not good. And how do you know if they look cool or not? Do you understand what being called a fag means? And if emo-geeks are cool, why do they only complain about how lonely they are and how they always get dumped or can't find girlfriend? You just don't know shit.
>>739 What if you don't have money for a lot of nice clothes? In America, rent is high, gas is high. A nice television costs like $2000, a nice computer costs like $2000, a nice cell phone costs $500, an ipod $300 and so on. By the time I'm done paying bills and paying for my car, I don't have money to blow on expansive clothes.
>>742 Actually he looks pretty geeky to me. This is what Im saying, you're not an American so you just don't know. No wonder so many Americans are always coming to Japan. If sort of geeky looking guys like that are going to get called "pretty"
>>747 do you know any american site, where you can add a photo, so people can rate you? if yes, let's upload that photo to such site and see how people rate him
Let's be honest: That emo thing is cool now. It's called a "hipster" look. Those people get a lot of girls, and the people who don't call them "emo-fags" out of jealousy.
>>751 Rent in big cities is very high. One bedroom apartment in a nice neighborhood is $1500 a month if you find a good deal. I know Tokyo is very expansive too though, but how much does the average Tokyo resident earn a month?
>>753 Well yes and no. Their is definatey a hipster chic thing going on right now, but there is also considerable backlash against it. And I'd say only the emo guys who are in bands that MTV picks are getting women. In fact some guy made his own video game about emo and how they don't get women and people call them geeks. He posted it online. I forget the title though
There is a backlash against it from who? Punk rock guys? Those people are losers. Punk rock girls are hideous, if they were any more deformed they'd be goth.
>>765 Punk, Jocks, Preps, Skaters, the newest wave of heavy metal hardcore fans, people with the hip-hop scene. all the abercrombie and fitch/Gap clones. Pretty much all the people that populate all the crappy shows that MTV puts on instead of playing music...
>>771 Is this true? Can someone please confirm. Because all I hear in the media is how expansive Tokyo is, but $800 a month is nothing compared to rents in NYC.
What if an otaku suddenly decided he likes a certain fashion, and started dressing cool. Will he be accepted by people even with his hobbies. Or will that never ever happen?
>>774 but you get more space. plus the overall cost of living in Tokyo is higher. I might have been generous. It is getting harder and harder to find even a one room apartment (20 sq. meter room for example) with no toilet for under $600 a month. Plus when moving in to an apartment in Tokyo you usually pay a two month deposit another two months worth that you won't ever see again and agency fees. You can easily fork over 4-6months worth in advance.
>>778 Well, I asked because many "hipsters" have otaku-like hobbies: besides buying expansive clothing, they collect arty books, and watch weird French movies.
>>783 not yet. lol notice how boys likes actress/singers? it's because they have a style and they care about fashion a lot. actually many other artists (photographers, designers) care about fashion too, (think about it). you can't do anything, because people love fashion! fashion can help you to show your individuality! (let's not talk about fashion victims)
>>789 here the story people do what they like. nobody cares => crap people do what they like. someone cares => art easy huh? (dont talk about MTV pop please)
Since this discussion is originally about an otaku, I have a question regarding otaku, if you're an otaku please answer as well.
Otaku watch a lot of anime, read a lot of comics, etc. In other words, they are exposed to a lot of stories. Don't all these stories about the interesting life of others make them feel bad that they don't have a life outside of their hobby. Whenever I read a book, or see a movie, or even watch an animation I always think how the story relates to my life. Do otaku ever think about that?
>>792 very nice observation. most of the otakus likes SF which has no connection to real life. If they watch other anime it's dont have connection to their lifes, it have connection to their fantasies. it's calles escapism. you can google about it.
>>793 Thank you for your response. I found an interesting site about it in English: http://www.sabbatarian.com/TableContent/Escapism.html So, is that the only reason otaku consume so much anime, comics, and games because they need to escape? That's kind of sad, because I thought they actually really appreciate these things as a type of literature.
>>794 Hello, I think you are confused. This is not 2chan, this is 2 channel. 2chan is a stupid image board, 2ch where you are now is a discussion board.
>>811 I readed that creator of evangelion was suffering from depression and he made this TV show as personal therapy for him. he is a typical otaku. so watch it if you want understand otaku...
Would you argue that otaku are worse in Japan or elsewhere? Personally, I find them sad; instead of imagining making love to anime characters, they should focus on their carreers so they can get a real lover. Or, at least, work on themselves.
I don't think that he was a typical otaku. The typical otaku isn't allowed to create thier own animes, otherwise the market would be flooded with crap like Love Hina.
I'm wondering, about Otaku in Japan, if they find other otaku who are female(or if they're gay, another gay male), does either person have any interest in trying to make something happen romantically?
"I asked Anno about such abstract characteristics of the angels. He said that this reflects the feelings of his generation. For his generation the enemy is not political. It is also not definite. I mentioned to Anno that such abstract characteristics of the enemy are very close to the conception of Aum as enemy (e.g. poison gas) which he admitted. He also admitted the similarity of >>Evangelion<< with Aum. Nevertheless it is too simple to conclude that Anno was sympathetic with Aum. He emphasizes the closedness and exclusiveness of this group. They lost any contact with reality. In Anno's view this again is very close to the situation of anime fans. In fact >>Evangelion<< criticizes anime fans, and anime culture: it begins with ambiguous flirtations with conditions central to Aum, and ends with its critique as launched on the situation of anime fans. "
"Miyazaki and Oshii's change, which also manifested itself in a kind of hate towards anime fans seems totally justified. Nevertheless, it is also true that they lost a lot of appeal compared to their early 80's work."
Miyazaki especially, otaku criticize him for speaking badly of otaku, but he has broken the boundary of animation.
>>821 yeah, very true. while Miyazaki and Oshii creates new, anime fans dont want it. because they want small pieces of fake reality as TV SHOW episodes. which actually dont have any quality like Miyazaki
Otaku care not for the animation as artwork, or even another world, just as a meth addict cares not about the drug so long as it is in their system. They claim to care about culture, especially the otaku not in Japan, yet make no attempt to learn the culture or meanings outside of how they are shown in comics or cartoons. They liked Miyazaki as long as he gave them the drug they were looking for, but when he began to speak poorly of them they found other suppliers.
I'm not so sure I under those articles well, it's saying that Miyazaki and Oshii both broke away from otaku culture out of frustration with its trapping. And Anno and his anime "Evangelion" is expression of these frustration in otaku terms. Is that right?
I feel that those that are otaku are plagued with a disease of modern culture taken too far, and should be treated accordingly. But what help can be given to such outcasts who embrace their defects?
>>827 I believe that otaku is typical problem of 21th century. You dont need to go out of home to buy something, you can read anything on internet, you can discuss anything too. you can download any movie...
As for Otaku being a problem with the 21st century? I think it's a problem that's always been there, but I think it's something that's been exaggerated by modern technologies. Although I don't think it necessarily is a problem with just one person, otherwise there wouldn't be so many of us! It would seem to me, that the problem's in how people see each other and how easily we can reject each other. Atleast, that's the way I see it from an otaku's point of view. Maybe I'm just not willing to take responsibility for my own actions...
What's interesting to me about otaku, is that they are the first of its kind. They are completely underground and shut off from society, but they are not subversive. Otaku are addicted to shopping, like many in mainstream society.
Past movements of outcasts have been the punk rock movements and various art and political movements which challenged society, otaku are not like that. They are completely absorbed in themselves.
another quote about evangelion: The reviews and comments of Anime fans published in their respective magazines show their disappointment with the later episodes, since there is no hope for a happy ending and no space for their identification with characters. The mystery of the >>Evangelion<< world gets increasingly critical and complicated. This is obviously not a typical Anime plot anymore. Another level is the level of imagery. The speed of cut ups is very high towards the end. When I asked Anno about influences he did not mention Nouvelle Vague, although I expected him to say Godard. He named Okamoto Kihachi, a filmmaker of the Japanese Nouvelle Vague, who was actually influenced by Godard.
>>831 So rather than become true to ourselves, or changing ourselves to fit a social norm, we should indulge in pop culture such as that in anime? That's rediculous. They are the only constant in their lives, and thus it is up to them to make the best of them, not us.
Also, why do so many otaku forsake shows with thought for crap like "Naruto" or "Love Hina?" What is it about childrens shows or shows about impossibly harems that these social retards are drawn to? Is it that they fantasize of a world where things are simpler and they can overcome if only "they train hard enough?" Because they can overcome, but it'll take effort, and many of the otaku I know have no problem waiting in line for a day for their favorite video game yet don't want to get a job becuase of the work involved. Feh.
I don't think it's an underground movement, since you could go to a store, pick up a few dvds, and watch and become part of it with out having to know someone else who's in to it. It's not like a drug culture where you have to know someone to get hooked up with your drug. You just need to know what store has the best deals.
What I find surprising is that in America and other places, it seems to have a more social reaction. Clubs dedicated to Anime and manga, online communities, and conventions are all social groups. They're just different than the rest of the cliques that non-otaku are involved in. They have different norms and mores(pronounced mo-rei-s, it's a term used to describe acceptable behaviour in social groups) than most. It's ok not to shower for a few days, or to spend your last few dollars on a cd or dvd. Which in normal cliques would be really looked down upon...
I don't think Naruto is a crap show, I'm not otaku and I watch Naruto when I have free time. It's exciting fights like many Japanese movie of the past.
Have you seen these movies of Jean-Luc Godard. I saw some during college years, but don't remember any now. I just remember movie A Bout Souffle had very frantic cut ups, the shot was always changing.
>>838 I haven't heard anything bad about that site. Basically, you sign up with an account, add bookmarks to your account, and others can browse those bookmarks. Thus, people can see what links are very popular amongst its users.
>>837 I saw only two Godard's movies. one 1966 something like female-male and liked it a lot. and another one is his first, and most famed movie "Breathless" with Jean-Paul Belmondo I dont remember anything like Evangelion, but I saw a lot other french NEW WAVE movies and they have something similar to evangelion... like subtitles, still photo of various objects..
>>842 it's popular system. Your favourite bookmarks online. everyone can see them, and you can see other people bookmarks too! it's better then google, because people in general will not post crap links
