The penguin that the image is a little different from a present nonhibernating egg lived in the earth of 36 million years ago. A red tea and gray wing is said wearing by the length of [tai] ..stature of man.. ..weirdy straw.. pulling out.
The new kind of ancient penguin was named "King water (The scientific name: Inkayacu paracasensis)". It is expected that a new side joins the research of bird's evolution. First of all, immediate evidence to indicate comparatively recent was discovered at time when penguin's body coloration changed into black and white. Additionally, the possibility that the change is deeply related from breeding and the camouflage to the swim has surfaced, too.
King water's fossil was excavated with at least two kinds of huge penguins in Peru in 2007. It is said that [uroko] and small wing with which the wing and the body part where the staff in the laboratory grew in king water's wing recently had been covered was discovered two or more according to this year's announcement the 30th of September. This ancient penguin reaches as much as 150 centimeters as for maximum kind emperor penguin of a present life though the length doesn't reach 120 centimeters, too.
Mr. Clark, [juria] paleontologist of a certain Texas university Austin school explains in the United States in the person in charge of the research , saying that "The back of the gray and the wing was red ..point of the wing.. browns". However, it has not arrived to be insufficient the number of samples of wings, and to fix the arrangement of color of the whole body.
Co investigator's Dan [kepuka] (Dan Ksepka) explains so by the birds paleontologist at North Carolina State University. 「The color of the whole body is not understood only from this material. The guess doesn't take side with the king water though a part of present life penguin such as [iwatobipengin] has the reason for the light color for surroundings of eyes and necks either. However, judging from the ossifying stone, this individual must have been an adult. At any rate, if it was an infant body, brown and the gray of the adult were unexpected. 」。
The research team used the melanosome (subcellular organelle including the coloring matter) for the fossil of the wing and the comparison material of the present life penguin and other birds. It is said that the color of an original wing was able to be specified according to shape and the size of the melanosome of the fossil.
In the discovery of the wing in ancient penguin's specific portion, this time is the first time. Moreover, it is also similar to have gripped immediate evidence to indicate comparatively recent the time that changes into a body coloration peculiar now.
Then, does the reason that changes into a monochrome body coloration that the penguin thinks of the tuxedo :?
Mr. Clark, person in charge of the research points out, "The appearance of the predator such as seals is thought as one reason". It is said that there is a camouflage effectiveness that is called counter shading in that body coloration. The white abdomen at which the predator looked up from the under merges in the bright sky. Black dorsal is the dark ocean and a translation that it assimilates and the discovery rate falls in the opposite.
The big plan that catches wave motion "Gravitational wave" of the mystery that Einstein prophesied existence begins to move in Japan. A little distortion of the space is obtained with the telescope in the bottom of the earth, and it approaches the mystery of primitive space. An intense global competition starts aiming at the large discovery that remains in the history of physics. (Yosuke in length)
- Kamioka to the special telescope construction under the soil
Gravity gives birth to "Warp of the time-space" according to Einstein's general theory of relativity. The space is distorted by gravity in surroundings of the star as the cloth bends by weight if a heavy ball is put on the trampoline, and how at time to advance slows, too.
The distortion of the space extends to surroundings like "Wavelet" if the star does the gyration. This is a gravitational wave. Direct evidence has not been found yet though existence was prophesied by the general theory of relativity in 1916.
The gravitational wave occurs strongly when a heavy neutron star and the black hole move intensely. The gravitational wave according to huge energy is discharged when space is born about 13.7 billion years ago, and if the remaining influences is caught, it is possible to search for the appearance of impossible primitive space in present astronomy.
The detection of the gravitational wave has a big meaning that cuts new astronomy in addition to the verification of the relativism that became the foundation of modern physics open.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology sent the green light to the construction of gravitational wave telescope "LCGT" that The University of Tokyo cosmic rays laboratory advocated in June. The laser interferometer is set up under the soil, and an initial observation starts about Gifu Prefecture and the old Kamioka mine known by the neutrino observation in 2014.
Time until putting the vacuum pipe on L letterform whose about one is three kilos, launching the laser beam in two directions simultaneously, reflecting with the mirror, and returning is continuously measured. The gap is caused at the returning time because the space is distorted, and one of distances become long when the gravitational wave reaches. It is a mechanism that this is detected by the interference phenomenon of light.
The amount of the detected distortion is 1/100,000,000 of the only 1/10,000,000,000 meters. One atom distance of the earth and the sun is marvelous performances by the understanding of the expansion only of worth. The vibration and the temperature change set up ..few.. under the soil, and the highest sensitivity in the world is achieved.
The target is a gravitational wave that occurs when two neutron stars high-speed rotate mutually from the earth within the range of 600 million light-years. Prof. Kazuaki Kuroda in this laboratory「It is possible to detect it surely several times a year if it observes it by a real performance. There is no room for the doubt. 」Confidence is shown to the discovery.
The researcher of the United States who indirectly proved the existence wins the Nobel Prize in Physics to the gravitational wave in 1993. Certainty [mi] is done as for winning, and candidate's name has already risen among parties concerned if succeeding directly in detection.
2016 year when the real observation is expected is a turning point of 100 years from the announcement of relativism. The sensitivity of existing facilities is scheduled to be improved in the same level with Japan this time in rival's United States and Europe, and the three-way race starts. Prof. Kuroda is enthusiastic, "If things go well, at least aim at the first to arrive with another country at it simultaneous". -

It has been understood that the sphere of the sun ([heriosufia]) where the solar system is wrapped has changed intensely from the observational data of sun sphere observation satellite IBEX(Interstellar Boundary Explorer) of NASA.
Charged particles are being discharged into all directions by the sun. This flow is called the solar wind, and collides with the magnetic field in the interstellar matter (gas and dust that exists slightly in interstellar) that is tossed before long about cold space outside the solar system and galactic systems. The shield like the bubble is formed on the boundary side of the collision, and it is prevented from invading in the solar system the fact that harmful cosmic rays are the outside ..human body.. space.
It was shown that the boundary had actively changed more than the expectation by the observational data of IBEX though the boundary side of this magnetism that wrapped the solar system was called the sphere of the sun. It is said that it is a surprising discovery.
David McComas as whom the chief researcher of the IBEX mission also serves by the staff in the South West laboratory in Texas state is describing at the press conference on September 30, "Anyway, a current model by whom the interaction of the solar wind and the galactic system was shown was a complete mistake".
It has been thought that the expansion and the reduction of the sphere of the sun correlate to the solar activity at about 11 cycles of year. It is because the power of the solar wind increases, too when the solar activity becomes active.
However, when the all universe chart of the sphere of the sun newly made from the data of IBEX is compared before half a year, it has been understood to shrink more than the expectation greatly. 「This rapid change can become astronaut's threat. It is because the inlet flow of cosmic rays increases when the sphere of the sun shrinks, and the immunological system might be damaged. 」It solves and McComas talks.
In addition, the data of IBX clarified a new fact. Last year..for the first time..sun..sphere..universe..chart..make..uncharged particle..originate..mystery..ribbon base..long and slender..structure..discover..this..structure..extremely..bright..energy..area..this time..map..disappear.
He or she explains, "This area is divided and it is wide to the entire ribbon now". 「It is divided in opinion also in the team of an accurate process of formation of this high density area and space ribbon until today. However, it has been understood that this area was changeable in a short term comparatively as a result of comparing the sun sphere maps this time. It is an unexpected result. Hereafter, I want to ascertain the reason. 」。
Details of this new discovery are published in the "Journal of Geophysical Research" magazine of the issue on September 29.
It has been found that about 14.6% exists in the sea off Japan among all marine organisms from bacteria to the mammal in the investigation of the research team such as Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology. The result of the survey was published in U.S. online science magazine professional Swan dated the second. The [**notto] Fujikura doctor of oceanic mechanisms (ocean biology) 「It was shown that the biodiversity of the Japanese neighboring waters was the world eminent. It will be necessary to bury them in the future because data has a difference big in each taxonomical group of the country, the region, and the living thing. 」It makes it. The research team examined the document after 1953 by about 50 person situation such as researchers at oceanic mechanisms and the university about the living thing of exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in Japan as part of an international approach, and made it to the data base. As a result, the marine organism of the Japanese neighboring waters has gone up to 33,629 kinds in total. The marine organism kind of all parts of the world is known about 230,000 kinds, and accounts for the about 14.6%. There is 6393 kinds of 2nd place of arthropods of the prawn and the crab, etc. There were 1872 kinds of indigenous species of the Japanese neighboring waters, and were 39 kinds of exoticisms. The investigation of each sea area is totaled, and the Japanese neighboring waters is 26 area 1st place when mesne. However, the difference with a little Australian the neighboring waters kept top when seeing only with the eukaryote that had the cell nucleus excluding bacteria etc. On the other hand, in Japan though there is no formal report example It is good when about 122,000 kinds of living things to which existence is strongly presumed exist, and the living thing kind confirmed this time remains in about 20 percent of the whole. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2010 to
Andre Geim University of Manchester, UK
and
Konstantin Novoselov University of Manchester, UK
"for groundbreaking experiments regarding the two-dimensional material graphene"
Graphene ? the perfect atomic lattice A thin flake of ordinary carbon, just one atom thick, lies behind this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics. Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov have shown that carbon in such a flat form has exceptional properties that originate from the remarkable world of quantum physics.
Graphene is a form of carbon. As a material it is completely new ? not only the thinnest ever but also the strongest. As a conductor of electricity it performs as well as copper. As a conductor of heat it outperforms all other known materials. It is almost completely transparent, yet so dense that not even helium, the smallest gas atom, can pass through it. Carbon, the basis of all known life on earth, has surprised us once again.
Geim and Novoselov extracted the graphene from a piece of graphite such as is found in ordinary pencils. Using regular adhesive tape they managed to obtain a flake of carbon with a thickness of just one atom. This at a time when many believed it was impossible for such thin crystalline materials to be stable.
However, with graphene, physicists can now study a new class of two-dimensional materials with unique properties. Graphene makes experiments possible that give new twists to the phenomena in quantum physics. Also a vast variety of practical applications now appear possible including the creation of new materials and the manufacture of
innovative electronics. Graphene transistors are predicted to be substantially faster than today’s silicon transistors and result in more efficient computers.
Since it is practically transparent and a good conductor, graphene is suitable for producing transparent touch screens, light panels, and maybe even solar cells.
When mixed into plastics, graphene can turn them into conductors of electricity while making them more heat resistant and mechanically robust. This resilience can be utilised in new super strong materials, which are also thin, elastic and lightweight. In the future, satellites, airplanes, and cars could be manufactured out of the new composite materials.
This year’s Laureates have been working together for a long time now. Konstantin Novoselov, 36, first worked with Andre Geim, 51, as a PhD-student in the Netherlands. He subsequently followed Geim to the United Kingdom. Both of them originally studied and began their careers as physicists in Russia. Now they are both professors at the University of Manchester.
Playfulness is one of their hallmarks, one always learns something in the process and, who knows, you may even hit the jackpot. Like now when they, with graphene, write themselves into the annals of science.
World Conservation Union that warns that 1/5 or more of earth's vegetation is on the verge of edge of extinction (International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources、IUCN)The 29th was announced about the result of the survey.
This investigation : the tenth Conference of the Parties of Convention on Biological Diversity of the United Nations held from October 18 to the 29th in Nagoya ahead. What British royal cue botanical garden (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) and British Natural History Museum (Natural History Museum) executed in combination to set standard of
plant protection activity It was recognized that it was the remainder by 4000 kinds, and 22% was the extermination misgivings kinds in becoming the investigation object of about 380,000 all plant kinds of
on the earth. Especially, it is said that it is tropical forests and it is on the edge of extinction a lot of plants.
The extermination risks of the plants say that the risk is low amphibians and the coral with the mammal though it is higher than birds by the same level.
The plant that it has misgivings about extermination was the gymnosperm such as trees of the paddy.
The maximum extermination risk is destruction of the habitat by the land use such as pastures for the cropland and the domestic animal. It is said that 81% of the risk is due to the human factor.
- The exterminated mammal is actually few.
On the other hand, many are not, and : by the idea of the exterminated mammal. Research results of Australian Queensland large (University of Queensland) in which it was able to be concluded that the rediscovered case is not a little will be announced by British biology technical journal "Britain Royal Society bulletin (Proceedings of the Royal Society B)" on the 28th later.
It is said that 67 kinds appear again when 187 kinds of the mammal assumed to have exterminated Diana Fisher (Diana Fisher) as big as Queensland and Simon [buromuba- gu] (Simon Blomberg) after 1500 are examined.
Two people think, "The possibility to be judged the mistake because of the seed to which the seed that disappears by the appearance of the natural enemy of the exoticism, the epidemic, and indiscriminate fishing disappears because of a decrease in the habitat extermination seems to be high". Therefore, the influence that the habitat destruction exerts on mammal's extermination has the possibility to be overvalued, and it is said that such a tendency is especially strong in the exoticism.

"for palladium-catalyzed cross couplings in organic synthesis"
Great art in a test tube Organic chemistry has developed into an art form where scientists produce marvelous chemical creations in their test tubes. Mankind benefits from this in the form of medicines, ever-more precise electronics and advanced technological materials. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2010 awards one of the most sophisticated tools available to chemists today.
This year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry is awarded to Richard F. Heck, Ei-ichi Negishi and Akira Suzuki for the development of palladium-catalyzed cross coupling. This chemical tool has vastly improved the possibilities for chemists to create sophisticated chemicals, for example carbon-based molecules as complex as those created by nature itself.
Carbon-based (organic) chemistry is the basis of life and is responsible for numerous fascinating natural phenomena: colour in flowers, snake poison and bacteria killing substances such as penicillin. Organic chemistry has allowed man to build on nature's
chemistry; making use of carbon’s ability to provide a stable skeleton for functional molecules. This has given mankind new medicines and revolutionary materials such as plastics.
In order to create these complex chemicals, chemists need to be able to join carbon atoms together. However, carbon is stable and carbon atoms do not easily react with one another. The first methods used by chemists to bind carbon atoms together were therefore based upon various techniques for rendering carbon more reactive. Such methods worked when creating simple molecules, but when synthesizing more complex molecules chemists ended up with too many unwanted by-products in their test tubes.
Palladium-catalyzed cross coupling solved that problem and provided chemists with a more precise and efficient tool to work with. In the Heck reaction, Negishi reaction and Suzuki reaction, carbon atoms meet on a palladium atom, whereupon their proximity to one another kick-starts the chemical reaction.
Palladium-catalyzed cross coupling is used in research worldwide, as well as in the commercial production of for example pharmaceuticals and molecules used in the electronics industry.

In their search for the cellular and molecular causes of multiple sclerosis, an Italian-German research team has identified a subgroup of protective immune cells (suppressor cells) which are strikingly reduced in number in patients with this nervous system disorder.
These suppressor cells are characterized by a specific surface marker, called CD39, and degrade ATP, an energy carrier released from damaged tissues. By this means, suppressor cells appear to be able to curb inflammation occurring in the central nervous system in the course of the disease.
With CD39, Dr. Giovanna Borsellino (Laboratory for Neuroimmunology of the Fondazione Santa Lucia in Rome, Italy) in collaboration with Dr. Olaf Rotzschke and Dr. Kirsten Falk (Max Delbruck Center for Molecular Medicine, MDC, Berlin-Buch, Germany) have for the first time identified a cellular marker whose disappearance can be directly correlated to the manifestation of multiple sclerosis.
As they report in the American journal Blood (Vol. 110, No. 4, pp. 1225-32, 2007), reduced numbers of CD39 suppressor cells may be indicative for the disease. At present, multiple sclerosis is diagnosed by testing for antibodies in the cerebrospinal fluid or by performing MRI scans of the brain. The future will show whether this new finding can also be useful for the development of a new therapy.
In multiple sclerosis, misdirected "auto-reactive" immune cells destroy the isolating myelin sheath surrounding the nerve fibers, disrupting the transmission of neuron signals. In healthy individuals, a special group of suppressor cells, also referred to as regulatory T cells, is one of the means how the body's defense-system keeps such amok-running immune cells in check.
Only recently, researchers in Heidelberg could show that the thymic production of regulatory T cells is impaired in patients with Multiple Sclerosis. In addition, research groups in Europe and the USA have revealed that genetic variations of two genes related to regulatory T cells can increase the risk of developing multiple sclerosis. The genes CD25 and CD127 encode the interleukin receptors 7 and 2, which regulate the activation of immune cells.

Graphene ? the perfect atomic lattice A thin flake of ordinary carbon, just one atom thick, lies behind this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics.
Also a vast variety of practical applications now appear possible including the creation of new materials and the manufacture of innovative electronics.

It was proven for fallout "Atomic dust" to exceed the Pacific Ocean by a series of H-bomb test that the United States executed in Bikini in the central part Pacific Ocean in May three ?
1954 year, to extend, and descending to Japan and the United States, etc. with the U.S. official document that the researcher in Japan had obtained.
The amount of fallout that the United States had observed in 122 places in the world was recorded by the numerical value. It analyzes it as material that shows that the exposure (lamplight tapir) reached besides the fifth Fukuryu-maru. The report is brought together, and is page 227 all in May, '55 around U.S. Weather Bureau. The secret was released to the copy in 84. Lecturer Hiroko Takahashi in a Hiroshima City University Hiroshima peaceful laboratory et al. are advancing the analysis. The full text was
found on the homepage of U.S. Ministry of Energy in March this year though the part was known among researchers.
In the map where the range of fallout after two days of the explosion of the first hydrogen bomb "Bravo" that the United States had opened to the public before had been shown, it was
limited to 18,000 square kilo aiming at the east from Bikini to leeward. Afterwards, the observational result for four months is shown in the report obtained this time by the numerical value though it was pointed out that fallout had extended to the world scale.
Fallout extends from Bikini like a long from east to west oval ([daen]), and it is Japan and the United States. It was shown that there was fallout, and the gross weight was calculated with 22.73M curie by all over the world such as Africa continents.
To observe fallout when experimenting, the United States sets up the observation point all over the world according to the report. The amount of fallout was recorded with a self-
adhesive film.
The amount of fallout due to six explosions was shown by the number of atoms that collapsed in one minute on the sticking film of one square foot (about 0.09 square meters), and it
recorded in the map separately for the Pacific Ocean side hemisphere and the Atlantic Ocean side hemisphere. "Value line such as radioactivities" like the contour line was recorded on that according to the amount of fallout in each observation point.
The report concludes, "A probability to the inhabited area early (descent) can be reduced if experimenting in the Pacific Ocean in winter" as "A complete relation between the flow
pattern of the troposphere and the observed fallout is clear". It is possible to look groping for the method of suppressing the radiation poisoning. There is a description "It is about five
times Japan (..drinking.. descent) in the United States of America southwest", too.
The unit of the numerical value of each observation point differs from the one generally used, and will research whether fallout influenced it how much in the future.
As for the fishing boat and the freighter that sails in the neighboring waters at the experiment this time and is exposed to radiation, 1,000 total is said excess, and there are a lot of
former crew who appeal for the health hazard such as cancer, too. However, damage conditions other than a political settlement and the fifth Fukuryu-maru were not investigated by the
compensation of 720 million yen 55 year as for the Japan-U.S. both governments afterwards.
In taking a picture of the animation that alternately puts out the leg ahead by protein "Myosin V" with two structure of the leg and moves, the study group such as Kanazawa University
succeeds for the first time. It announced by British science magazine "Nature" (electronic version) on the tenth (local time).
It took a picture of atomic force microscope (AFM) that observed the molecule with high-speed AFM put to practical use by 1000 X speed about five years ago. In expanding the width of
the application, the clarification of the material at the Nano level is expected.
Myosin V was able to put out while alternately turning the leg ahead from the back as a result of observing it with high-speed AFM, and to confirm movement to walk by the stride for
the first time. If they are about 36 nanometers (Nano is 1/1,000,000,000), and it is men, the pace is called a speed at the Olympics player level that starts at 100-meter 10 seconds 28.
The gesture where it halted making no progress also showed it sometimes.
Myosin V is a transportation post in the cell having the melanin pigment and the material such as neurotransmitters as luggage, and moving according to the actin fiber. It was known by
dynamic of movement, and it caught researcher's interest. In taking a picture of the animation that alternately puts out the leg ahead by protein "Myosin V" with two structure of the leg and moves, the study group such as Kanazawa University

Monday, October 04, 2010 It challenges in the good in the world by the self-made super computer, and three teacher in the Kofu commercial course special school90-useless personal computer connection, pi, the student, and it will calculate.
The personal computer system of high-speed processing like the super computer (super computer) that tied 90 when three teachers in the Kofu commercial course special school effectively utilized the personal computer that did not use it because of the class and was used in a large-scale numerical analysis was made.
It is said that the processing speed improves by having connected the personal computer, and there is an advantage from which the class of the information processing department to which it has taken a long time up to now is made efficiency according to teacher Takahiro Harada (44) though the performance per one is the same as the model that uses it at home.
Finally, it adds by making the personal computer by oneself in the future, and it is thought, "I want to challenge the world record etc. of the pi calculation with students" (teacher Harada) by making it to 110 worth of a system.
It is teacher Harada it, teacher Koji Kanamaru (30), and your [utsu] Nakata teacher (35) that handled the system. The city has updated the personal computer that the same school uses because of the class according to teacher Harada manufacturer, lease contract doing, and three every years. The personal computer that finished contracting inherited free of charge, and was using it in the faculty's office and the library, etc. in elementary and junior high schools.
Because disposition to the school had completed the first stage, three people thought about the effective use plan of the personal computer. The leasing contract is finished so far, 90 personal computers that do not use it because of the class are connected with the cable, and it has been set that it is possible to use it as one computer system. 280 several CPU (processor) built into as a function to calculate by one personal computer became, and the fast computation was enabled.
When the performance is examined, work that it takes one and a half hours or more by one personal computer is only 24 seconds in this system. It is said that the processing speed became 300 times or more.
There was a subject that made three dimension image from the drawing, and, up to now, it had taken several days from several hours by one personal computer in the information processing department. Teacher Harada is scheduled to use from the coming year by teaching the second grader, and to take an advanced class , saying that "Work can be finished by using the super computer in the class time of 50 minutes, and connect about the class the efficacy rating".
Teacher Harada "If it comes to be able to do the fast computation, a huge amount of numerical analysis can be done as it puts out below the decimal point of pi by one trillion units". In pi, the company employee in Nagano Prefecture calculates up to five trillion digits below the decimal point of pi with the personal computer of making by oneself, and the record of about 2.7 trillion digits of the engineer in France is repainted greatly.
"It wants to make the calculation program with interested student in the computer, and to challenge the record. " It is enthusiastic as (teacher Harada).

Maximum satellite Titan in the Saturn might also have blueprint DNA of the life on the earth (deoxyribonucleic acid). This shows that the component of the life brought up by "Primordial soup" that has extended to surface of the earth in the early earth was generated in the atmosphere. It is the research team of postgraduate Sala [herusuto] of Arizona University Lunar and Planetary Institute (Lunar and Planetary Laboratory) that experimented this time. It is a digit with the conclusion when there is a possibility being contained for five kinds of nucleotide bases that are the components of DNA and RNA besides several kinds of simple amino acids that become origins of the protein from the laboratory experiment that reproduces the atmosphere of Titan where a dense mist is shrouded.
Neither the bird, the fish nor the microorganism, etc. on the earth are born to Titan as [herusuto] also is pointing it out most. He or she speaks as follows. "A molecular composition of the material that composes them might be different on the earth if judged from various viewpoints even if Titan has the life. "Titan's normal temperature is far lower in above all than the minus 180 degrees and the earth.
"Moreover, the water of the liquid doesn't exist in Titan's ground level though the foothold of the life on the earth is water. " It is thought to be a liquid methane to fill it though Titan has many lakes.
The hypothesis that this team had led from this research results was that a part of the element that composed the life on not the one that concerned Titan but the earth originates in an atmospheric material. The possibility of "Primitive mist" filled in the atmosphere in addition to "Primordial soup" thought to be wide to an initial earth surface is a source of the life birth, too is suggested.
[Herusuto] speaks, "One of the reasons why this result is interesting is in the point that the kind of the molecule that can be generated from the similar atmosphere can be specified in Titan's atmospherical research".
"A lot of evidence to show that a similar mist to Titan in the atmosphere in the early earth was existing now is found, and a lot of exoplanets are high the possibility that a similar chemical reaction to Titan has happened though such a molecule is generated in Titan now. Article AbstractThe Neoproterozoic era was punctuated by the Sturtian (about 710 million years ago) and Marinoan (about 635?million years ago) intervals of glaciation. In South Australia, the rocks left behind by the glaciations are separated by a succession of limestones and shales, which were deposited at tropical latitudes. Here we describe millimetre- to centimetre-scale fossils from the Trezona Formation, which pre-dates the Marinoan glaciation. These weakly calcified fossils occur as anvil, wishbone, ring and perforated slab shapes and are contained within stromatolitic limestones. The Trezona Formation fossils pre-date the oldest known calcified fossils of this size by 90?million years, and cannot be separated from the surrounding calcite matrix or imaged by traditional X-ray-based tomographic scanning methods. Instead, we have traced cross-sections of individual fossils by serially grinding and scanning each sample at a resolution of 50.8?μm. From these images we constructed three-dimensional digital models of the fossils. Our reconstructions show a population of ellipsoidal organisms without symmetry and with a network of interior canals that lead to circular apertures on the fossil surface. We suggest that several characteristics of these reef-dwelling fossils are best explained if the fossils are identified as sponge-grade metazoans. Opportunity's Close-up of a Meteorite: 'Oilean Ruaidh'
This is an image of the meteorite that NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity found and examined in September 2010.
Opportunity's cameras first revealed the meteorite in images taken on Sol 2363 (Sept. 16, 2010), the 2,363rd Martian day of the rover's mission on Mars. This view was taken with the panoramic camera on Sol 2371 (Sept. 24, 2010).
The science team used two tools on Opportunity's arm -- the microscopic imager and the alpha particle X-ray spectrometer -- to inspect the rock's texture and composition. Information from the spectrometer confirmed that the rock is a nickel-iron meteorite. The team informally named the rock "Oilean Ruaidh" (pronounced ay-lan ruah), which is the Gaelic name for an island off the coast of northwestern Ireland.
Opportunity departed Oilean Ruaidh and resumed its journey toward the mission's long-term destination, Endeavour Crater, on Sol 2374 (Sept. 28, 2010) with a drive of about 100 meters (328 feet).
This view, presented in approximately true color, combines component images taken through three Pancam filters admitting wavelengths of 601 nanometers, 535 nanometers and 482 nanometers.

AbstractEvidence from biomarkers and molecular clocks points to the existence of sponges tens of millions of years before their earliest fossil remains. Fossils from South Australia may narrow that gap.
In the first half of the Neoproterozoic era (1,000?542 million years (Myr) ago), the Earth experienced a tremendous upheaval. Amidst the build-up and eventual rifting of the supercontinent Rodinia, there is evidence for at least two global Snowball Earth glaciations, along with a shift in global ocean chemistry from sulphide-rich to iron-rich conditions and a
dramatic rise in atmospheric oxygen concentrations1.

Here we re-interpret Odontogriphus based on 189 new specimens including numerous exceptionally well preserved individuals from the Burgess Shale collections of the Royal Ontario Museum. This additional material provides compelling evidence that the feeding apparatus in Odontogriphus is a radula of molluscan architecture comprising two primary bipartite tooth rows attached to a radular membrane and showing replacement by posterior addition. Further characters supporting molluscan affinity include a broad foot bordered by numerous ctenidia located in a mantle groove and a stiffened cuticular dorsum. Odontogriphus has a radula similar to Wiwaxia corrugata but lacks a scleritome. We interpret these animals to be members of an early stem-group mollusc lineage that probably originated in the Neoproterozoic Ediacaran Period, providing support for the retention of a biomat-based grazing community from the late Precambrian Period until at least the Middle Cambrian.

It turned out to discharge the blast with intense massive galaxy with mainly faraway times and the supermassive black hole, and to have put primitive space into the state of overheating by the latest observation data of Hubble Space Telescope. Moreover, this scorching environment seems to have obstructed the growth of dwarf galaxy.
11.7 billion from now?It is said that the electron separated from the helium atom of space by the ultraviolet rays discharged from huge Milky Way "Quasar" that provides with the supermassive black hole at the center 11.3 billion years ago. By the way, it is about 13.7 billion years ago to generate the big-bang that invents space where we live.
Is the helium gas 10,000 in the centigrade according to the action to which the electron that is called "Ionize" separates? It is heated by 22,000 degrees. Hot gases move earlier than cold gases. It becomes impossible for the heated helium to build up speed, and to catch by the gravity of dwarf galaxy therefore. Helium is a lot of atoms that exist in the second in space after hydrogen, and one of the major ingredients of the star formation.
It is spoken, "Therefore, the counterplan and dwarf galaxy were not able to take "Meal" enough at that time ..it was..".
[Sharu]'s research team : by the help of Hubble Space Telescope. The specific wave length of the ultraviolet rays that the quasar of about 11 billion years in a distance greatly ago had discharged was detected. This wavelength is not included in the discharged light farther than this for an old quasar. It is because of absorption with the neutral helium and the single-ion helium of charged particles. The single-ion helium is lost one electron by the neutral helium and appears.
The helium gas's passing the ultraviolet rays of the wavelength is seeing when doubly ionizing and exists. Therefore, if time when ultraviolet rays came to reach turns out, the first year fee in the age when helium ionized doubly can be specified.
As for ionized helium in the quasar, after about 500 million years from the overheating age, heat considerably fell, and the speed was late. As a result, dwarf galaxy came to be able to grow up again. [Sharu]「Many of dwarf galaxy managed to endure only in a nuclear part. It was necessary to wait again until the age when the temperature of helium fell came to begin to take the gas. 」 It explains.
A similar phenomenon is said that it will stay up also in the planet in the solar system where we live according to [sharu]. The huge gas planet in the Jupiter and the Saturn, etc. has enough mass only of catching the hydrogen atom and the helium atom heated by the sun. On the other hand, the planet where mass like the earth is small has already lost all light elements.
「For instance, neither helium nor hydrogen remain very much only cervine in the atmosphere in the earth. The reason for the gas of a light element that appeared by the action of radioactive decay etc. is that it has diffused from the earth to space at once. 」[Sharu] speaks solving.

Reason Ker Than for National Geographic News October 12 why visual ability of hearing impaired is high and 2010
It has been understood that it has the possibility because of it is because the brain cell that originally rules aural is allocated in the sight by the sight of the hearing impaired excellent from the latest research that uses the cat.
"The brain doesn't waste a vast auditory area and the information processing ability with a very efficient organ. " Steffen Ron bar of a certain western Ontario university speaks to Canada that led the research. The auditory area points at the part where aural is ruled in the brain. "Therefore, other sensory functions can exist and there be "It moves and live" there enough. "
The action experiment of the cat was conducted, inborn [ieneko] of the ear that was not [e] ..listening.. ..Ron bar's research team.. confirmed the sight and kinetic vision, and it was confirmed to have it. This is the same as the result of a human visual acuity testing that has a hearing defect.
Next, a part of the brain was cooled by using the surgical technique that was called a reversible inactivation and the function was stopped temporarily. Which part of the brain contributed to the improvement of the visual ability by doing so was able to be specified by the pinpoint.
Neuroscientist Alex Meredith of the Virginia Commonwealth university that participates in the research explains, "The reversible inactivation can observe the action of the animal after the function restarts while stopping before temporarily stopping the function of one area of the brain by a very strong technique".
When the part in which it took part in the tip aural system of the ear that listened and existed in [koenai] cat's auditory area was cooled by this experiment, the ability of the cat's sight in the surrounding decreased, and it became equal to the cat that did not have the hearing impairment. Similarly, kinetic vision fell even into the equal with the cat that did not have the hearing impairment when the function of the part of the brain of the sound that listened and took part in the detection of the direction of [koeru] was normally stopped.
When the visual ability improves「Those visual functions are not relocated to the auditory area at random. It seems to be arranged in the part where the function similar to the function is ruled in the auditory area. 」Ron bar speaks.
The research team expects that it is clarified whether the same thing applies to the human if the research will advance in addition in the future. However, Mr. Daphne [baveria] who is not participating in the research as a neuroscientist at the Rochester university in New York state says, "A part of the visual ability of the hearing impaired improves, and it can explain the reason why other visual abilities are changeless" by the experiment of this cat.
Moreover, it seems that the hearing impaired that underwent the burial operation of the artificial cochlea when it is an infant can explain the reason why the recuperative power of the hearing function is large from this outcome of an experiment than the hearing impaired that underwent the burial operation of the artificial cochlea after it grows up.
The hearing impaired obtains aural by burying the artificial cochlea with a small electronic equipment in the operation under the skin. 「When the burial operation is delayed, the functional layout of the brain composed again when it is an infant is made fixed to some degree. The brain cannot be composed again even if the artificial cochlea is buried after that, and the visual function is influenced. 」Ron bar who led the research points out.
However, the research team thinks whether it comes to be able to improve the artificial cochlea by this research so that it may specialize in a specific part of the auditory area like the part etc. in which it takes part in the understanding of the conversation for instance. Ron bar expects, "If the method of the change in the brain is clarified, and it can be specified to which area it only has to send the neural coding, the artificial cochlea of the oncoming generation that can supplement the function of the brains more accurately than up to now can be developed".
Mr. [baveria] who contributed the comment to the publishing magazine of this research also agrees. "It is indispensable to understand how the auditory area of the hearing impaired functions when it is a child to maximize the success rate of treatment with the artificial cochlea. "
This research is published in the issue on the "Nature Neuroscience" magazine October 11, 2010.
