I might say I'm living in a certain city in South Korea, is not so far from the East Sea.
Well, I did write about the history textbook of Japan, which is to be used among a lot of class rooms of Japanese junior high school.
I think it makes sense that the Japanese gov't is willing to go back to the WWII.
What I want to say is that we must beat Japan storongly not to be occupied again.
Any question?

103名無しさん@1周年:2001/07/25(水) 01:58
I'd like to say one thing:
Japanese goverment does not write the history text books.
It only authorizes to publish the texts.
There are several privetely owned companys that
write text books. This means if a school chooses to use the
text, only then that text is used in that school.
To my knowledge, there aren't any schools yet to use the much dibated
textbook. I'm not sure though.

Hello,Mr.Kim again!

Thanks for you reply me. I live in Tokyo, very hot town in summer.

First of all I want to tell you even if there is some discriminatory
writings, please don't care of them. They who wrote discriminatory
writings are member of very small section in Japan. I want to talk
about many things with you. We Japanese have a little chance to talk
with Korean directory.

I understand you said "textbook" as textbook of history this time.
I will write down here how I think about textbook of history of Japan.

What I have to say about textbook in Japan is that a school textbook
isn't compiled by government in Japan. There are many(5~7) textbooks
of history for one grade in junior high. Many publishing companys
make textbooks based on their standpoint, then they have to take
official exsamination to make thier textbook be approved by the
Ministry of Education.

In official exam, Ministry of Education check them. They make
publishers correct their textbook only if there is mistake on an
obvious fact. They don't make them correct from natinal historical
view. So, there is many textbooks of history, and they have thier own
viw of history. There maybe One or some textbook can't make you
satisfied, but thereis no help for it.

to be continued...

Hell Mr.Critic

I know I'm not good at English as masters on this board, who are very rare.
But It's not the point at issue. The point is the terrible appearance of this
board and why thread llike this don't grow longer evrytime.

I know there are masters on this board. They are very good at English as
they show us their command of English on threads for translating always.
Especially to request for translating English into Japanese, not only masters
but many people try to answer them and most of them put right answers on.
But they don't post writings to thread like this in English.

I want them show us their command of English in writings here. They must
good at wrinting too, I believe. They may make mistakes too, but that's a
small matter. It's important that if they write down here long and meanfull
writings on this thread this thread will grow longer and fool guys cannot
post meanless and discriminatory writings sometimes they including even
4 charactor words. It must be good for this board too.

That's what I wanted to say. If you are one of masters, please post what
you think about this thread and correct me.

Thank you.

Personaly, I don't have too much interest in putting
messages in English here as it seems to me some sort
of weird masterbation. No one cares for what I say,
and even less corrects my mistakes.
So, it does little to improve my English skill.
If you realy want to practice your writing,
the place you must go is the board, where real English
speakers are talking, but not here.
If you read through this thread from the top to the bottom,
you surely notice that there's no meaningful exchange of
messages but disgusting four letter words and insults,
which, I believe, annoys anyone who realy cares for real communication.
I for one go around to the threads like "request for
translation" if I want useful time in staying in this board.

Well, I understand you. What you said is true. But I 'm very intrested in what you said on this thread.

First of all, I don't have intention to practice writing in English here. I have to write documents in
English in my daily work. It's very tough for me that I have to do that even if there are many mistakes
in my wrtings. So, I practice English hard in other place and time. And I want to enjoy talking and
discussing various things in English here. Please don't care of me.

Of course it is good for you to answer requests on thread for translation. I don't get in the way of it.
But I'm happy if you and masters post many and long and meanfull messages on this thread. They
must drive disgusting masseges away.

I would say by way of precaution, I'm not >>1.

thanks for asking about AUS,
well it has got more land and green and probably better climate.
peaples are easy going and most of them are lazy, i like that part.
and it has got heaps of multiculuturaly defferent background people living together, so u 'll see some sort of discriminations.

but i reckon, that japan has almost everything eccept,,,,
what u think for that?
pls may i have a your say?
208名無しさん@1周年:2001/07/29(日) 21:57
Since this country is island, most of Japanese are genuin nationalities,
when your country has many kinds of race and nationalities.
So what we don't have is a sence of cultural tolerance toward other country may be.
But I'm not sure about that.
Or,I might have to point out that the generousness we might ought to have.

It doesn't matter you're real American or not. But If you cannot write intresting things
in sophisticated English, you' never treat as an American on this boad. I also think that
is most important what you say in your messages.

But you can prove that you post messages from NYC America in following way. Write
"fusianasan"in a section of name, where you had written "maigono gaijin", then your IP
adress will appeares there of your messages as I did.

Of course there is some of risks and you had not better to do that if you take static
global IP adress(I don't know how I express that in English correctly but you may get
what I say). That is going to prove at least that you post your messages from NYC
America.

But of course if you will post intresting messages in English many times, you will be a
special member on this board naturaly. It doesn't depend on your nationalty. I think this
is the better way to do.

Hey Zorro, How are ya? I read your post. Yeah the replies that I’ve gotten are quite daunting…err…but….
subsequently I’ve come to hope for the best but expect the worst from people. In doing this I am never surprised.
I went to see "Planet of the Apes" on the day of the first showing.
The last part of that movie was the most confusing. “Did he make it back to earth or was he on that same planet?
And if returned to the same planet then was the planet really earth? Can human and Ape have sex?”
I don’t think I will get the answer to these questions. The action and costumes were cool.

when WW2 was going on,asahi was completely on goverment side
but now they dont even refer about that and behave like a left wing
which alwas against war.

sometime they make a mistake but hardly admit ther fault and even when
they have to aporogize, they do very reractantly.
basicly all news paper is like them but asahi is too goody goody.
that is why many people hate asahi.they are to childish.

new song of L'arc en Ciel is used at the last of the movie. I'm looking foaward

By the way, I wanna ask you that A.I make a hit in the U.S.? In Japan it have
a poor reputation. I'm intrested in the movie becouse of its script is written by
Stanly Cubric(I don't know I spelld out his name correctly or not, sorry) .Could

Why did he feel bad about Asahi newspaper?
243名無しさん@1周年:2001/07/31(火) 14:07
240 san, I fully agree with you.
Asahi is the biggest hypocrite among today's journalism in Japan.
Their history is full of sins, and disgrace to decent journalism and crimes, they have committed
not only during the war but since then to this day.
For an instance, how Asahi could justify in their propaganda that North Korea was
a heaven on the planet, and this was the place to go for the residents from Korea in Japan.
Now we all know very well they are living in a hell on the planet, in a real one.
Not a few of them made up their mind to go to the hell, believing in Asahi's shit.
They wrote on the paper not the fact but what they wanted to believe as usual.
And the similar case has been repeated again and again.
Do you anyone notice a tiniest bit of article on the paper that they admit their fault.
They never admit, and pretend they are always right.
Hypocrite as they are, they are pretending they are on the side of ordinary, or depressed people,
keeping them from the abuse of the power
while a fact is that they are the power, evil power if I may, as they cannot look back on themselves
and correct their faults.
In a way the attitude among some of us toward Asahi is similar to that of Rush Limbaugh when
he ridicules New York Times or Wall Street Journal, however, in the case with Asahi,
it is based on far more solid facts.

I think the ending of Planet of the Apes was deliberately vague because they're already thinking SEQUEL.
Personally, I think he should have stayed where he was. He had it good, with two babes after him and he'd just stopped a whole war by himself!

Your other question. Are you asking if humans and apes can have children together, or just have plain ol' sex.
I suppose if two intelligent lifeforms are creative enough, anything is possible. Ha ha ha. They can't have offspring without some Herculean feats of genetic engineering.
It has always bothered me how science fiction shows have different species easily breeding "mixed" children. (Star Trek, for example.)

I haven't seen A.I. yet, but I heard about it from a friend.
Yes, I see the parallel to Astro Boy in two things: building android copies of deceased children, and the rejection by his parents.
The movie is based on a Brian Aldiss short story, from the sixties. I wonder if he saw Astro Boy???

Did A.I make a hit in the U.S.? yes
For 2 weeks it was in the top 10 list of good movies. I really enjoyed it a lot but I liked F
inal Fantasy better. A.I seems to cover the stages of life of a person who did not receive love from mother.
I can go into that more if you want. I watch a lot of Japanese drama here in the states.

The only thing I know about America’s economy is that it’s not doing well. The news reports show that people from many industries
are being laid off from work at a rapid rate. I don’t have the means or the knowledge to decipher if
Mr. Clinton or anyone else is at fault for this. The world is too big for me to understand what is going
on and why things happen. If I try to understand or make any “educated” guess on the world’s state of affairs I’ll get a
headache “itai!” So I tend to focus on fun things like programming, video games, and my dream of someday living in Japan.
If I lose my job and I am unable to find another I shall only blame myself for not studying hard enough.
In fact I am going after all the certifications I can and even returning to school to study Japanese and computers.
The Nihongo Kentei level 1 is hard so I need all the help I can get.
I can’t say anything about Prime minister Koizumi but he looks like movie star. Didn’t he say mean thing about homeless people?
So sorry I can’t give you any good opinion. If I was in Japan I would forget about the world and goto hakone haha.

I think it's too naive to attribute the recovery of the U.S. economy to Mr.Clinton solely, and
in my opinion - dead wrong.
I cannot come up with anything useful or helpful to the economy among the things Mr.Clindon had done
during his presidency. At best he didn't give much damage to it.
(Though there must remain the controversial opinions whether his efforts to decrease the budget deficit
was helpful to the overall economy.)
We saw the dramatic turn-around of the U.S. economy coincided with the presidential inauguration of
Mr.Clinton, however, considering the time factor, required for any policy to take effect, it's more logical to
think the success owes to something initiated by his predecessor.
There must have been various factors that helped the U.S. economy, and I think one of them is
the collapse of Japanese economy, I mean "Burst of the economic bubble of Japan" , which pushed the money
out of Japan and directed it to the U.S.
After decline of the Japanese economy, we saw the dramatic change of the capital f low, and
the U.S. market began gathering the money from all over the world, picking up the momentum,
especially into then fledgling New Economy sector.
I personally think Mr.Clinton was just a lucky president, who happened to be a president at the right place and
at the right moment.

I think religion suck ass! In da US, the most segregated institution is da church! I ain't
talking bout da church's chicken!

God's followers should never discreminate anyone!
So why do they discreminate againt each other? Because their beliefs are not one that was created
by God's will but Man's will!!

うぉ・・・ぅ I don't know much about such churchs discreminates with color or something but,
But there are so many religious today. Even in Japan, there wouldn't be any villeges or towns
where they don't have any religious institutions.
Some might be rotten things. But I know there are some good, ideal church
that don't discriminate others. I cannot tell here those church's name though.

Or, may be, under certain circumstances,

hi,

about text book and yasukuni problems

in my opinion thats because some japanese people started to take
a relationship with asian contries more seriously than ever.
and i agree with them. its time to settle the past with other asians.
unless we stop declaring the most important relation for us japanese
is not the one with asians, im sure we are going to be isolated
in asian society. and then it follows we will be cornerd in the stuation
where we had been during the world war two.

what do you think?

WORKING FOR NOVA

Well, I must say that it feels great to have completed my last working day at Nova.
It was quite possibly the most bogus organization I have ever worked for.

What is so bogus about Nova? Well, let's look at a few things.
In fairness though, remember that many of the following
observations apply to the entire "English Conversation School"
industry in Japan equally.

There are no professional qualifications required to be a teacher.
Nova provides three days of "training" for all new teachers.
Want to teach the outrageously overpriced children's lessons?
Just another 45 minutes of training.
Well, I must say that it feels great to have completed my last working day at Nova.

Want to teach the outrageously overpriced children's lessons?
Just another 45 minutes of training.
Once they get the students' money, they don't really give a damn
whether they ever learn to speak English well or not.
They follow P.T. Barnum's maxim about their being a sucker born every minute.
Hardly any of the staff can speak English well and almost NONE of them study at Nova.
Then in their sales talk they tell people how wonderful Nova is and how much they can
improve their English at Nova.
How in hell would they know?
Would you eat lunch at a restaurant where the people who
worked there always brought their lunch? I think not.
What is good about Nova?
The commercials are EXCELLENT!!
They attract people like you wouldn't believe.
In my school, we have people who drive in from two or three towns away. Why?
Because they were hooked by the commercials.
They have English schools right in their own towns, yet they drive an hour
to study at Nova. All this when Nova is no better or worse than any of
the other schools out there.

All the schools now have "opinion boxes" at the front desk so that students
can confidentially submit their opinions and complaints about the school.
According to what is written on the box, the box is emptied once a month and
the contents sent directly to some bigwigs at the head office.
Supposedly the staff never sees them. That the staff never sees them is true anyway.
How is that? Because the boxes are never emptied!!!
I know for a fact that as I write this (June 15, 1997) there is a message in the
Kiryu Nova box which was put there in February.
I have mentioned this numerous times and been brushed off each time.
368名無しさん@1周年:2001/08/07(火) 01:05
Some people pay up to about $6,000. All that before they have had
a single lesson. Any place that wants you to pay that much up front
must be worried that they are so crappy that they couldn't keep you
satisfied enough to want to come back month after month, were they
to let you pay that way.
Not that it's important, but the president of Nova was on the list
of Japan's highest individual taxpayers for 1996 at Number 5.
He paid about a gadzillion yen.
All this while claiming that Nova provides lessons as cheaply as
they can. Sorry, but it doesn't look that way from where I sit.
(I wonder how his English is, by the way.....does HE study at Nova?)
MORE TO COME LATER? PERHAP

The basic requirement to be an English teacher in Japan is to be
eligible for a visa which allows you to work in Japan, and to be
an English speaker.
A few countries have "working holiday" arrangements with Japan
which allow
their young people to come to Japan for a few months and to work
part-time. America has no such arrangement.
The primary requirement for people not on working holiday visas
is to be a graduate of a four-year university.
Major is irrelevant.(back)

The children actually pay the same price for a lesson ticket as
adults do. The problem is that ALL children's lessons are taught
"Man to Man". Consequently they are charged either 3 or 4 lesson
tickets for one class (depending on the school).
What do Nova do in these classes that makes them worth so much?
Worth so much more than other schools?
NOTHING! They play games and draw pictures, just the same as
in any other school. The difference? The price! About $50 or
so for a 40 minute "lesson".
Unfortunately, the parents don't inquire too deeply about what

Once they get the students' money, they don't
really give a damn whether they ever learn to speak English
well or not.
They follow P.T. Barnum's maxim about their being a sucker
born every minute.
Hardly any of the staff can speak English well and almost
NONE of them study at Nova.
Then in their sales talk they tell people how wonderful
Nova is and how much they can improve their English at Nova.
How in hell would they know?
Would you eat lunch at a restaurant where the people who
worked there always brought their lunch? I think not.
What is good about Nova?
The commercials are EXCELLENT!!
They attract people like you wouldn't believe.
In my school, we have people who drive in from two or three
towns away. Why? Because they were hooked by the commercials.
They have English schools right in their own towns, yet they
drive an hour to study at Nova.
All this when Nova is no better or worse than any of
the other schools out there.
371名無しさん@1周年:2001/08/07(火) 01:19
The school operates on a "lesson ticket" system.
In this system the school tries to get the student to
pre-purchase as many lesson tickets as they can sucker
them into.
They show the prospective students a chart of
Nova "levels" and then tell them on average about how many lessons
it it will take to reach that level.
Of course, they pull the numbers straight out of their butts.
They next have the prospective pigeon take a "level check test".
Almost all students will fall into one of the lower three levels.
They show the pigeon the chart again and ask "How far would you
like to go? How good would you like to be?" In that situation,
everyone feels pressure
to say they would like to obtain one of the loftier levels and is
subsequently pressured to buy lots and lots of tickets.
The more you buy at once, the cheaper each one is.
372名無しさん@1周年:2001/08/07(火) 01:21
PERHAP
373名無しさん@1周年:2001/08/07(火) 01:25

Unfortunately, the parents don't inquire too deeply about what
goes on, nor do they do any comparison shopping. (back)
374名無しさん@1周年:2001/08/07(火) 01:28
All the schools now have "opinion boxes" at the front desk
so that students can confidentially submit their opinions
and complaints about the school.
According to what is written on the box, the box is emptied
once a month and the contents sent directly to some bigwigs
at the head office.
Supposedly the staff never sees them. That the staff never
sees them is true anyway.
How is that? Because the boxes are never emptied!!!
I know for a fact that as I write this (June 15, 1997)
there is a message in the Kiryu Nova box which was put
there in February.
I have mentioned this numerous times and been brushed off
each time.

Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart

Baby, baby
I'm aware of where you go
Each time you leave my door
I watch you walk down the street
Knowing your other love you'll meet
But this time before you run to her
Leaving me alone and hurt
(Think it over) After I've been good to you ?
(Think it over) After I've been sweet to you ?

Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over
Think it over

I've known of your
Your secluded nights
I've even seen her
Maybe once or twice
But is her sweet expression
Worth more than my love and affection ?
But this time before you leave my arms
And rush of to her charms
(Think it over) Haven't I been good to you ?
(Think it over) Haven't I been sweet to you ?

Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over
Think it over

I've tried so hard, hard to be patient
Hoping you'd stop this infatuation
But each time you are together
I'm so afraid I'll be losing you forever

Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart

Baby, think it over
Think it over, baby
Ooh, think it over baby...

Well, I thought this thread could be rather worth reading this time
but all you are trying to do here is nothing.
I just started wonderng if you really have something youd like
to say even in japanese?
Stop findng fault with others.
Why are you sticking so much to the mistakes in grammar,
spellings or style especially about which other people wrote?
Dont you have any interest in what they said?
Otherwise are you just studying for reading novels or something?

I think people have tendency to become like entirely different person
when they are speaking foreign language.
Have you ever thought about this?
I'm really curious to know why this happens.
For example,
according to a book I read lately, some japanese students who spent
their early teen in english countries and are able to speak english
as their second language or in some cases much more fluently than
their japanese, they answered they become more aggressive as they
speak english. The other way around, could they be less aggressive
as they speak japanese? Do you think the choice of language could
influence on their mentality? not superficially but more deeply.

Could anyone answer my question here?
thanks in advance.
382mission@English:2001/08/07(火) 14:42
I would say most of English learner in Japan could speake with any kinds of caracters in their mother tongue,
Japanese of course, but when we speak in English, it depends on what was their motivations, and what kind of
text had they used to it.
For my part, I started learning English with Sesame Street and a kind of religious textbooks, so I'm not good at speaking
English for criticize others. When I talk in English, some how I feel I have to behave good person.

I think it is intresting issue that you presented. I may say what I want to
say directly when I speak or write in English. I'm not so good at English,
but I also be.

There might be many reasons of that, but I want to raise one reasen as
follws first. We learn English as a second language. That means we learn
English as a tool of international communication. Therefore our purpose is
to communicate what we want say. Our conversation in English is not just
a chattering. So we speak or write directly to achive the purpose. And
sometime we become to be agressive.

Second reason I want to mention is that most of people must have desire
to metamorphosis. And it must overflow when one who learn English speaks
or writes English. We Japanese tend to be gentle when we talk with each
other. It might be some stress for us. Then we may let these feeling out
when we speak or write in English.

There are more resons of this phenomenon. May I have your opinion please?

By the way, what is the link of >>383 for? Did someone click it?

Thanks.

My English is directly from TV show, The Simpsons.
So, mine has somewhat tongue-in-cheeks attitude.
I'm always trying to be nice. But the words coming
from my mouth are edgey (not wedgey). I hope someone
wouldn't take it seriously.

This year we have awfully hot summer in Japan. But it's refreshing today.

By the way, Don't you feel bad when you use the word "down under"? If I
remember rightly, it's discriminate word to Aus that English people use
with meaning "the backside of the earth". Of course I don't get in the way
of you useing this phrase. Australian don't care about it now?

The first one is very interesting from a medical point of view.
I tried to look it up in a medical encyclopedia, but I could
not single out the exact name of the disease.
The second one can be a very artistic collage, but you have
chosen a wrong place to show it.However,it's very beautiful
and at the same time grotesque, and very shocking to most
people who will see it.
The third one is not so artistic from my viewpoint because
you can easily find it a fake penis.

hope we are all happy on the biginning of the w/e. today i have lernt a new word OHHA- with making circle with your index and thumb.
i was surprised that the banch of japanese girls laught at that. if was a kind of fun to make on friday afternoon.

hi!! >381 some japanese students who spent
their early teen in english countries and are able to speak english
as their second language or in some cases much more fluently than
their japanese, they answered they become more aggressive as they
speak english. The other way around, could they be less aggressive
as they speak japanese? Do you think the choice of language could
influence on their mentality? not superficially but more deeply<

i would like to give my say about this issue.
one of my friends has 2 kids their mother is japanese and the father is oz. they both speak eng & japanese fluently for their age.
one night they invited us for pizza diner & we had a fun there. their two kids, one is 6 and the other is 4, they use their english to us, then they use japanese for their mother very naturally.
then i picked that point as you 381 have mentioned above.
but their japanese mother said that they are same in their both languages, it is just for the imagination inside you and it depends on w your mother's tough thinks about the one another.
but personally i like the sound of japanse rather than chinese or Korean.these sound too busy and like having a fighting or something. sorry i do not mean anything that bad...just in general.

and one more to say before i go to party tonight, for your say 241,
i do not care about down under stuff at all. i mean we love it more than love. australian tourism industry uses the word of down under everywhere.
but thanks for your say anyway. i like that part of your say.

thanks all for sharing the time with this, and i am off now.
TA.

I met a young American lady who spoke a very decent and classy Japanese. According to her, her Japanese teacher was very strict, never allowed her to use Japanse slangs or dirty words.
When she spoke Japanese, I wanted to believe she came from some upperclass family in Japan. But, that was her education.

When she spoke English, I immediately knew she is not an extrordinary American, but born and raised in California.

She was never aggressive in Japanese nor in English, but she sounded more laid-back and slower (and maybe more passive) in Japanese.

In short, language education may fool you.

Another point. If your observation is true, Japanese students in English countries tend to be more assertive rather than aggressive.
Assertiveness is a foreign concept to many Japanese, and no education is provided to be more assertive in Japan
When they are in English-speaking societies, they learn how to be more assertive. But never confuse assertiveness with aggressiveness.

Hi,

seems like a lots people confront english here.
well,
I know some people tend to stick to memorization
of words or phrases when they study second language.
but even if english conversation school says
"if you speak english you can talk with billion people",
for real, there are many opportunities to use english
for conversation with people who speak english
as a second language.
So, Ive started wondering if its effective to dig in english
deeply that much.
I mean, effective conversation skill doesnt get better
in proportion to the number of vocablaries and phrases.
humm..
any suggestions?

485241:2001/08/13(月) 20:43
>>484
There is no wonder if you think it's meanless to memoraize thousands of
words and phrases. You might think you can communicate with people who
speak English, especialy speak English as their second language. To
conclude, that's right. You can have conversation with people around the
world with hundreds of words and phreses.

But they can't work enough if you want to tell what you want to say
accurately or express what you feel in your mind when you meet somthing
impressed you much.

And native English speakers who are high educated often use difficult word
and phrase to express difficult concept in short. You have to know what
these words and phrase mean if you want to understand what they say
without obstracting their speach. And this is what needed in the spot of
international bussiness field.

That's why some of us study English hard especialy memorizing thousands
of words and phrases.

A delicate issue, by all means. One reason for his frustration
might be his lack of understanding of the current Japanese mentality,
i.e. indifference towards WWII-related facts (atrocities, victims,

No, I clearly stated that "One reason for his frustration might be
his lack of understanding...", hence no, unless you misunderstood
what I wrote.

>Then what's the difference between him and some Japanese who still

You tell me. Did I ever claim there was a LACK of difference?

>U might say that's a different issue.

Nope. I wouldn't say these two examples deal with different issues.
Misunderstandings due to difference in cultural background is
common worldwide. Thus the example in the original topic, and the
one you provided, are merely two aspects of a larger issue.

I am a huge fan of Japanese anime.Tenku no shiro Rapyuta is the film that challenged AKIRA in my top five and may well have won.
Along with Nausica of the valley of the wind, Castle in the Sky is pure genius, eclipsing any and all Disney features ever created.
Beautiful, suspenseful, full of heart and imagination, this film shows what art and entertainment is all about.Miyazaki should be canonized

Because of this long time failing of japanese english education,
I would like to hear opinion about a real basis of language education.
"can language really be taught?"
I'm beginning to wonder if someone can teach language to someone else.
I'm not denying the fact you can acquire it by nature
or learn it even from scratch.
Supposing that language is something you can get only
by making great efforts outside school,
what is the purpose to force all kids to confront one language
without any profit for 6 years as one subject of syllabus?

I'm not sure about the merits of teaching English in school...but,
were I ever faced with the task of 'forced' bilinguial upbringing,
I'd attempt to get my child addicted to some hobby or another which
requires extensive use of English - yet not as a grammatical school
of linguistics, rather as a living method of communication.
A couple of examples off the top of my head;

1. Attempt to create interest in overseas traveling, encourage solo
travel, promote body-language skills

2. Attempt to get the child hooked on an English-version MMRPG
(preferably with a reasonable amount of text, of moderate difficulty)
where he/she will be interacting with non-Japanese players

I know the examples above sound like rubbish...but the point is,
not learning the language as an academic virtue, but using it while
enjoying oneself with hobbies and the like, i.e. as a tool of sorts.

Thanks for reply.

well, im a universtity student
now and fortunately in the circumstances
being able to study English for my graduation credits.
But all I got those classes were these two conflicting ideas.
One, English is a tool for communication then if you dont use it
there is no need to study.
Two, English is an academic area if you have nothing to say
even in Japanese don't dare to study.
First logic is often heard from foreign instructers and second one
is from Japanese profs. so they naturally use completely
different kinds text books in classes.
the one for kids in the jr high
and the one for univ students in the US.
I don't understand what we all are doing in those two separated
ability requring classes.
I think English education in Japan is really fragmentary.
and then I came to the conclusion that there is no need to make
all Japanese study one language in the first place if they are not
ready to teach appropriately.

Studying English is like traveling by train along a winding track. You
may sometimes find a switch back on the track. It looks boring, but
it is necessary.

You wrote:

I think you expected to go through with the two tracks at the same
time. It is not unusual at school( e.g. When in university, I learned
chemistry English and inorganic chemistry using an English textbook
simultaneously.)

(I've ever seen it before at Movie Theater.)
But that was fall flat!
It was dubbed into Japanese, bacause original "TITANIC" is American film.
But actors charged in voice part lacked their skill as voice artists, they spoiled it completely.

Director James Cameron designated the point would change into the TV commercial by himself.

victims of the terrorists. Nobody wants war, but nobody has

I suppose people on this site are mostly in Japan. You cannot
imagine the sadness and anger in the US now. Don't get me wrong,
I am not saying that American are all for war. They don't want
wat either. But they do need to make sure that these terrorists
will be punished or eliminated for good so that nobody else will
go through this heart shuttering incident. Since that day, I need to
fight my tears every waking moment. If I let myself, I burst into

I don't know how Bush thinks, but what I meant was that Osama is
rather unique terrorist. He is awfully rich, smart, and has such charisma. He
doesn't need any country to support his cause except his
hidding place. If the US can find him and terminate him, I don't
think there will be another terrorist like him. It is so much easier
to attack a country than a person who can be anywhere. But the US needs
to show to the terrorist groups in the world that the US will not allow
such crime against innocent people and will destroy them.
Anyway, nobody wants WWIII, and certainly the US will make sure
that will not happen. Were you worried? I am not.

As far as what 628 said is concerned, there would no one
appear who can fill their shoes, unless a nation played a part.

In this sence, as most americans may be thinking by now
by beating them to pieces the world will recover its peace again.
But what about feelings of people who could lose their families
by this striking back?
What about kids who could lose thier father or mother by this?
You can not destroy only buildings by boming from combat planes.
Many innocent people might be involved in another tragedy again.
No more people should die.

I don't think we have to worry too much about war.
For Bush knows that if the warfare went beyond the world's consensus,
the US would immediately lose their supports from allied nations
and that makes the things worse for the US to deploy the whole operation.
It is probable that US will have hard times finding this canny criminal in
the moutainous land of Afganistan or Iraq, but one they do,I think the situation
will soon settle and there would be no necessity for US to suggest the use of any
extraordinary wepons anything that people hear in rumors.
Anyway, no body wants the world war 3 and I think people are smart enought to let it not happen.

More than 80% of the American people think that the US should try

Even if the US decided to attack, they will try hard not to harm

'ello, y'all. Pray excuse the length of my post.

I received the following in my Hotmail Inbox.
Would you say it's for real, or not?

HONORING A TRAITOR ?

This is for all the kids born in the 70's who don't remember this,
and didn't have to bear the burden, that our fathers, mothers, and
older brothers and sisters had to bear. Jane Fonda is being honored
as one of the "100 Women of the Century." Unfortunately, many have
forgotten and still countless others have never known specific men
who served and sacrificed during Vietnam. The first part of this is
from an F-4E pilot. The pilot's name is Jerry Driscoll, a River Rat.
In 1978, the former Commandant of the USAF Survival School was a POW
in Ho Lo Prison-the "Hanoi Hilton." Dragged from a stinking cesspit
of a cell, cleaned, fed, and dressed in clean PJs, he was ordered to
describe for a visiting American "Peace Activist" the "lenient and
humane treatment" he'd received. He spat at Ms. Fonda, was clubbed,
and dragged away. During the subsequent beating, he fell forward
upon the camp Commandant's feet, which sent that officer berserk. In
'78, the AF Col. still suffered from double vision (which
permanently ended his flying days) from the Vietnamese Col.'s
frenzied application of wooden baton. From 1963-65, Col. Larry
Carrigan was in the 47FW/DO (F-4Es). He spent 6 years in the
"Hilton"- the first three of which he was "missing in action". His
wife lived on faith that he was still alive. His group, too, got the
cleaned/fed/clothed routine in preparation for a "peace delegation
"visit. They, however, had time and devised a plan to get word to
the world that they still survived. Each man secreted a tiny piece
of paper, with his SSN on it, in the palm of his hand. When paraded
before Ms. Fonda and a cameraman, she walked the line, shaking each
man's hand and asking little encouraging snippets like "Aren't you
sorry you bombed babies?" and "Are you grateful for the humane
treatment from your benevolent captors?" Believing this HAD to be
an act, they each palmed her their sliver of paper. She took them
all without missing a beat. At the end of the line and once the
camera stopped rolling, to the shocked disbelief of the POWs, she
turned to the officer in charge and handed him the little pile of
papers. Three men died from the subsequent beatings. Col. Carrigan
was almost number four but he survived, which is the only reason we
know about her actions that day.

I was a civilian economic
development advisor in Vietnam, and was captured by the North
Vietnamese communists in South Vietnam in 1968, and held for over
5 years. I spent 27 months in solitary confinement, one year in a
cage in Cambodia, and one year in a "black box" in Hanoi. My North
Vietnamese captors deliberately poisoned and murdered a female
missionary, a nurse in a leprosarium in Ban me Thuot, South Vietnam,
whom I buried in the jungle near the Cambodian border. At one time,
I was weighing approximately 90 lbs. (My normal weight is 170 lbs.)
We were Jane Fonda's "war criminals." When Jane Fonda was in Hanoi,
I was asked by the camp communist political officer if I would be
willing to meet with Jane Fonda. I said yes, for I would like to
tell her about the real treatment we POWs received different from
the treatment purported by the North Vietnamese, and parroted by Jane
Fonda, as "humane and lenient." Because of this, I spent three days
on a rocky floor on my knees with outstretched arms with a large
amount of steel placed on my hands, and beaten with a bamboo cane
till my arms dipped. I had the opportunity to meet with Jane Fonda
for a couple of hours after I was released. I asked her if she would
be willing to debate me on TV. She did not answer me. This does not
exemplify someone who should be honored as part of "100 Years of
Great Women." Lest we forget..."100 years of great women" should
never include a traitor whose hands are covered with the blood of
so many patriots. There are few things I have strong visceral
reactions to, but Hanoi Jane's participation in blatant treason, is
one of them. Please take the time to forward to as many people as
you possibly can. It will eventually end up on her computer and she
needs to know that we will never forget.

Spoken language which means language people use for interaction
by sounds is only language. Because every language has people
who speak its language but not every language has a system of
writing. In some language people talk but they don't write
then they have no way to pass on their ideas to descendants
but by word of mouth. Back to primitive society, even around that time
people had a way to communicate others by making a sound in the way
such as hitting something with a stick of wood or just growling.
A sound is a basis of language.
Then I do think one language cannot be devided into two
functions as writing and speaking. A sound can be language
by itself but language by writing is never going to be
language by itself.
What do you think?
679http://chat.free6.com/:01/09/23 02:51
680676:01/09/23 05:39
I've heard that around 300 languages in the world have a writing
system. We are lucky to have a brilliant writing system in Japanese
and English.
About your opinion, I know what you mean when you say the sound of
a language is the basic in communication. I suppose, however, that
it is a little bit too early for you to jump into the conclusion
that the sound can be an only language. What about deaf people?
Since they can not hear anything, there is no way to convey what
they think but in a body language or otherwise. That is, the body
language can be their native language. The point here is that there
are people who don't need any sound in communication, whatever the
reason it is. As long as there are people who don't need something,
it can not be a basis of a language, whatever the path of evolution
of a language has been.

are just human beings like us who have no brilliant capacity to use
telepathy or anything. If you mean extraterrestrians, have you ever met

Hi,
You mentioned sign language so I think I begin with the definition
of language. When I say language, it means language which occured
among people spontaneously and has been formed itself by natives.
Since sign language is artificial one, I would like to leave it out
when talking about language. Because if language category included
sign language, we would be unable to manege Esperanto since
this is completely artificial language.
As you know, Esperant doesn't have its native speakerS.
If you admit language which is not shared among its native
speakers, my utterance which goes %&!"#$ could be one language.
Of course this in not language. My utterance above is not language
because that was not shared with people and then Esperant is not
language because it doesn't have natives so sign language is not
language because its artificial.

Sorry for late reply.
The function of language is to convey the info to others.
Writing system is one aspect of language. Nothing further.
It's too superficial to change the formation of language.
Then the idea of there's special ability that you might need when

I'm sure they didnot mean to let the hurt feelings

It just means they perhaps ignored to imagine reactions
which caused by their singing let it be.
I can't agree with your opinion that
"Japanese people cannot usually sing an English song well."

for a foreigner to sing the song of a foreign language as a

Letting things go is not the way to handle the terrorists whose
purpose in life is to kill innocent Americans and Jews. The retaliation
is not the right word for what the people in the US intend to do.
They want the murderers caught and punished so that other people don't
have to be afraid. When innocent Japanese were murdered in Tokyo by the
cult (Asahara?), you did not let it go but instead arrested the cult
members and sentensed accordingly. If we let the murderes go without
proper punishment, what kind of society are we going to have:lawlessness.

opinion regarding America and its policy. He is rather a major pain
in the neck as a terrorist who organizes such act against many
Arab countries and surrounding countries. You may want to give him
excuses for his act, but there is no excuse for what he did or why.
And please don't hang up on words America or the media uses and
make judgment on what America is all about. As far as the judicial
system is concerned, American system is much more protective toward
the accused than any countries in the middle east.
This kind of act must be stopped for good. If you think that the US
is after only Osama, you are mistaken. Killing him will not be enough
to stop this madness.
Sometime, there is such an evil force which leaves no choice for you
but to pick up a weapon to fight because you need to ensure the safe
society for your children. Even the Dr. Martin Luther King who was the
pacifist acknowledged that there were times violence was necessary.
I know you who are in Japan cannot fathom how people here in the US
are feeling. It is not a revenge as you might heard from TV. It is
a big "WHY?" Why such hatred? How can be so hatfull enough to kill
thousands of innocent people who happened to be American or were in
the US. Osama is nothing to do with Arab-America problem. He is just
a religious lunatic whose belief is hate. It is as simple as that.

>You may want to give him excuses for his act
Like I said, I am not for the terrorists. I want to make this clear.
America should show the world that terrorism can't be the solution.

>Sometime, there is such an evil force which leaves no choice for you
>but to pick up a weapon to fight because you need to ensure the safe
>society for your children.
Don't you think some of the young Arabs might think the same way?

>nothing to do with Arab-America problem
How can you be so sure about that? If America doesn't give it any
consideration, it never can emerge from this terror-retaliation circle.

>It is as simple as that.
This only tells me that you are too upset to make fair judgement.
I hope people in America could calm down in time before making
any terrible mistakes.

Find out about Osama first. About relationship between US/Arab
not being the cause of Osama's act:
because most of the Arab countries are supporting the US's
effort to terminate the terrorist act by Osama. If Osama's
act was based on Arab-America problem(whatever it may be),
why should they support it?
Anyway, the US like any other countries made some mistakes
in the past. But they are not obligated to make everybody
in the world happy. I think Americans are as calm as
one can be under the circumstance. That is why they have not
nuke the bastard and Taliban. You may not believe me but the
Americans really want to handle this situation in a right way-
not killing innocent people in Afgan. May be because all your
information about this matter is from the media which has no
interest in reality or facts but more eye-catching head lines.
Whatever the US does or does not, there are always some people who
are not happy with the US. You cannot make everybody happy all the
time. So be it. Osama has to grow up, that's all.

Hi it's been a while that i don't write in here.
No country but England participates willingly in this ridiculous act
of the U.S.

>why should they support it?

Because the U.S. is the world super power. That's all. Their policy
is totally absurd. Can you possibly imagine how many people suffer
from this stinky American way of handling issues for all these years?
Nobody likes America. Other countries follow its policy only
superficially. The American policy is SO stinky a garbage that we
have to dump it in spiral water of toilette flush. If you said your
opinion above while sober, I would have to suspect that you are
brainwashed by the slopshod CIA agent. ittekudasai.

The world power balance will change in the future where the U.S. is
no longer a super power. I am not pro-terrorism, but the incident
is definitely the result of what the U.S. policy has done.

The Petition
What follows is a petition that will be forwarded to President Bush, and
other world leaders, urging them to avoid war as a response to the
terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon this
week. Please read it, sign below, and forward the link to as many people
as possible, as quickly as possible. We must circulate this quickly if it
is to have any effect at all, as the Congress of The United States has
already passed a resolution supporting any military action President Bush
deems appropriate.
http://home.uchicago.edu/~dhpicker/petition
Subject: no war!
There are two stages to this petition. 1. to network this information, and
2, to send the message to as many government agencies as you can, including
the Presidency of the USA, and the Secretary General of the United Nations,
whose email addresses are listed below.
1. To network this petition, 'copy and paste' this message to a new message
and send to all the people you know in the "To...", "Cc..." or "Bcc..."box,
go to the bottom of the petition and type in your name and then "Send"
2. Separately from networking this petition, copy and send the signed
message below, to the President of the USA and team (listed below) and to
any local government agencies you can. We MUST try to get as many copies of
this petition as possible to all governments, and especially to The

you have to read between the lines of all and any textbooks, political
magasines, television news etc etc,
after all, media controls what we see and hear and you have to figure
out what is right and what is wrong.
a prime example, would be the current situation with the terrorist
attacks on america : DID YOU KNOW that those news images of that
very joyful muslim woman and kids who were CHEERING the attacks ARE
TWO YEARS OLD !! CNN finally admitted to the clips
being OLD.
i'm NOT going to get into who is right or wrong in this case, BUT
media is not supposed to lie to the public to get some kind od false
reaction. i believe we are all smarter then that and are
capable of making up our own minds in the matter. . .

so the point of what i'm saying is that you can't trust all that you
see and read, alright ??
you have to do some research and thinking if you're really
interested in politics and don't want to appear a fool.

the following texts/books may be of some help to you :

COMTEMPORARY INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
framework for understanding
by:
DANIEL S. PAPP

"and so it goes": adventures in television
by : linda ellerbee

( linda ellerbee was an anchor woman with various american networks,
including NBC and she wrote this book about what REALLY goes on in
the white house, behind the scenes of a news programme, etc etc
this book was a bestseller in new york city. )

finally, there are various political journals that deal exclusively
with asia . . .

research and think.

and enjoy your reading !

>which one of the Arab-USA problems
Unfortunately, this world is not as simple as you think.
It is impossible to point out just one specific probable cause.
Plus it is not even just about the Arab-US friction such as the
possession of a land of Palestine and oil consessions in Saudi Arabia.
The north-south problem, ethnic movement in the post cold war,
and so much more are involved.
Now you know why it is so hard to seize terrorism.
It can't be solved by punishing a person nor a country.

>All you have been doing is nothing but belittling.

It depends like sometimes you do sometimes you do not?
Of course it may be an important thing when you are talking
to people in the class room. If you did that in real life
you would end up making people think you be nothing
but arrogant.

My point was that you did not
make any comment about what he or she wrote above.
It seemed like you have an interest more in how he or

And you talked about the best thing to the others mistakes
then I want to ask 'To whom?'.

Many people from overseas point out that
Japanese people have two sides in their mentality.
One is for their social life, the other is for real they.
It is a common phenomenon that people change themselves
according to circumstances. But some anthoropologists also
say it's noteworthy in Japanese society.

And as coming to this bbs and watching people posting
vicious messages, I realized that Japanese people have sick
in their head. They lead normal life in public exchanging
amicable words and greeting politly. But they are doing so
not because they are amicable nor polite. Their social
standards require them doing so. And they are obviously
getting frustrated by keeping doing so.

As an evidential fact, I want to ask you this question:
Do you have any friend sharing knowleadge that
you are coming here to post some harsh comments
as a response to others? I guess the answer in no.
Because you know what you are doing here is not
socially acceptable.

Don't get me wrong.
I am saying this just because we are all mentally sick.
But especially in Japan you can not be defferent from others.
This conflict your sickness and your social pretending
personality brought you here. It's not something you have
to be ashamed of. I admit I am somehow sick.

I think if I was a monkey or something living in primitive
culture, maybe I could lead my life happily just sleeping by day
and searching for foods by night. But for real I am not.
You all are somehow sick by living in this country.
Am I wrong?

>>780
Hi
Well, If you stick to that point, we are getting off
the track again.
Here is an elemental question "did you read >>761 ?"
then let's get back to the original contribution.
Honestly I don't care your definition of harsh words and curse words
because as we are talking about the context of 761,
we must follow 761s difinition right? and I don't see
the big defferences between harsh words and curse words
in the original context.

If what concerns you the most is your impression that
I would be saying college kids are enough stupid not to tell
right from wrong, it's misunderstanding. What I was trying to say
was that people could have much more opportunity to talk about
something you would be ashamed to tell people in school
than in working place. and If you say you are working in the
circumstances you can tell people that you often come to 2ch,
I envy you. and if you insist that you are just not doing anything
to disgrace you so that you can tell people, it's another story.
782名無しさん@1周年:01/10/10 22:30
>>781
I thought 761 said "I come here and make harsh comments
because I'm sick. I believe you are too. We are all sick
because of this Japanese society. I'd rather be a monkey."

And I thought what 761 ment by saying "vicious messages"
and "harsh comments" was some very direct or sometimes
even rude coments without any compliment.
I never thought of anything you've wrote in 777.

Maybe I am not sick enough to understand 761 right.
I mean, are you 761? If so, I'm sorry to misunderstood you.
If not, how can you be so sure about that?

Anyway my points are follows:
Not everyone comes to 2ch has mental distress.
There are work places you can talk about 2ch with no sweat.
Japan is much better than most of the other countries.
To survive as Japanese is much easier than to do the same as a monkey.

Sorry if I confused you. Just neglect this and go on, please

I see many people come here to complain that certain
English conversation school they go to is bad or good.
There are many problems with those schools there is no doubt
about that. They might offer you unqualified teachers.
I hear some of them even don't have any interest in teaching.
It's horrible and their students have a right to say something
to this.

But I also see some people who are speaking up on this matter
is just people who attribute their problems to others.
They don't seem to try and solve the problems by themselves at all.
I even think they might sit back in the chair with big oriental smile
on their faces while in the class room. And maybe they often go
"sensei nani itteru no?"
to the next students while the teacher asked questions directly to them.
I heard in English countries you are nothing if you stay a non-verbal
smiling doll. I am sick and tired of watching smiling dolls in those
stuations but sometimes I find myself being one of them.
It made me wanna die..

No one would be evil originary, I think.
Only that, too stressful daily lives makes you want to give harsh responces.
Vice varsa, like me, leading my life as just as I want won't give such cold responces.
And, of cource, I know I may not be spending days for what I'm really suposed to do.
So, here, I wan'na say that harsh responces is something we have to accept.
Ultimatly, I want to enjoy any kind of responces.
Reacting to storm is just enjoyment for stormer. This is the defined theory.
Endure till the time when crap responces get erased by write-off team person.
Uncastrated threads and responces would be delete someday, I believe.

The former told me their strangeness, pecuriality and even madness,
and the latter their creativity and skill .
I was also delighted with the variety of the topics 2ch provedes us.
On the topics I'm interested in or keen on, I can argue with 2chers

816名無しさん@1周年:01/10/27 20:30
Ok
Here is a basic question for you.
Don't you look like japanese?
How come we should "sound" like a native
when everyone knows we are not a native?
Do you adore them? Do you want be considered you are an american?
How can you possibly not realize you are nothig but
one of wanna-bees???

but I do think people should stop posting "what I did today"
here. For your info they are boring.
817名無しさん@1周年:01/10/27 21:05
looking like Japanese shouldn't be a prblem at all actually.
As there are plenty of Koreans, Chinese, etc.
who look like Japanese.

The accent thing is very important as this becomes
their (the English Language-centric world) weapon to
tease us.

But the funny thing is they can't pronounce 「ら」.
818名無しさん@1周年:01/10/27 21:06
I have a friend.
We talked about our futures when we were little kids.
She told me that she wanted to be an American.
Maybe she didn't even know what exactly does that mean.

Last week, she wrote me that she's got a green card.
She really is going to be an American after all.
Isn't it wonderful to hear that a childhood dream do come true?

Hi
Today I came over because I thought I could use your useful
advice here.
The other day I went for lunch with my korean friend.
She is coming to japan for a couple of months
as an exchanging student or something I think.
We went to Royal host near the station halfway of
my station and her station. then I found she eats with disgasting
noise. I am not a snob and usually dont care about table manners
but I certainly lost my appetite by hearing her chewing food
noisily. I wondered if I should say something to her but
as a matter of fact I didnt. I just supposed it could be
an arrogant remark if that kind of table manners was acceptable
in Korean culture. Still I am not really sure if its good for her if I
let her eat like a pig.
What would you say if you were in my position?
821名無しさん@1周年:01/10/27 21:49
so you don't know her well enough to caution her
table manner. i have in the past cautioned my friend who
visited me when i was living abroad about the way he eats
spaghetti. but i cautioned him before he did anything as i knew
that he was going to slurp up his pasta.
it would be kind for you to caution her before she embarasses herself.
if she is not stupid as well as having the table manner of
a pig then she will appreciate your comments.
822名無しさん@1周年:01/10/27 22:15

There is a famous saying "When in Rome, do as Romans do."
You should've told her for her benefit.

In my personal impression, Chinese and Korean people are very frank.
They are people who tell you whatever come to their mind without any hesitation.
I think they are use to those kinds of direct conversations.
I don't think they will take any of your remarks too personal or as an insult.

I think you are gonna be the one with broken hearted.
She might not change the way to eat despite your remark.
She might just say, "Oh, I'm sorry but this is how I eat."

Anyway, you should at least try to tell your honest feeling.
Otherwise, they will never have the chance to get to know it.

i was thinking the other day about death
my friends father died
i knew him
i have talked to him
i have got car rides from him when i was young
but i felt nothing
i probably won't feel anything if my wife's father dies
i shall cry when my dad and mum die but anyone else
probably not
death is a lonely thing
831825:01/10/27 23:56
i am not in good relation with my parents
my father is a selfish man. so is my mother.
but they acted as if they were perfect.
i grew up in a so-called dysfunctional family.
i am something like an adult child.
i am trying to change myself now, but it seems to be a long journey.

Every family has a skeleton in the closet.
No family is perfect.

Stop blaming your parents for your personality.
It won't take you anywhere.
It is just like running around in circles.

You don't need to change, you just need to grow.
Disconnect yourself from your parents.
You've got to be on your own.
835825:01/10/28 00:55
i know. i am growing up now. i feel it. i used to blame parents
for my personalities, but that feeling is eventually getting
out from me. but i dont want to rush. if i rush myself to grow,
i think i would go to a wrong way. disconnecting me from parents
and past should be done naturally, i think.

838名無しさん@1周年:01/10/29 01:00
Hi,
Well, we went to ginza then had an opportunity
talking about table manners.
I told her naturally so almost I myself did not realize
I am trying to say something which could offend her.
She said in her culture the older people
are kind of sticky about table manners too
(because I told her I was told lots about table manners
when I was a child.)
but she was not with me because she thought it was a cusual meeting.
Still, I think since I had told her she was trying not to
make noise while eating. I think we could also make sure
every culture has every different rule so it didnot bring
any hurt feelings between us. and we talked about
the cencership problem of a historical text book too.
I could say 'It was a great meeting, fantastic meeting'
borrowing from Mr. koizumi

I surely believe its important to have many topics
when you talk in 2nd language but there are limitations
of my ablity for memorizing words then I strted to think
if i would have an ablity to say something which i know and
keeps conversation going, i mean something which meets these
two requirments at the same time, it could be not too much to ask.
maybe its the same thing when you speak with your friends in jpn
something we can call "communication strategy".
But its also true there exsist some topics people talk about daily
like sports, cars, bars I do think I should collect info which
i can tell people about these daily topics as im doing with jpn friends.

You know why?

well, the other day i was invited to my frieds house
and i figured out i dont have many things to talk about.
my friend is a nice person so he was trying to keep
conversation i felt so sorry for him. its about my english
or ablity for controlling conversation topic i dont know.
Finally he asked my hobby! it was embrassing to be asked
"whats your hobby?" out of the class room. it suggests
we have nothing to talk about. right?

to my surprise
I couldnt answer it. i mean
do you usually think what is your hobby?
i remember i went like
"wacthing movies reading like that"
and i do think this would lead the end of conversation.
and I started to even think by any chance am i not
good at having conversation with in japanese too??

>>957, Could you explain what the puchline of your story is?
964名無しさん@1周年:01/11/02 01:14
To my surprise,
I was not able to answer it. I mean,
are you always conscious what your hobby is?
I remember I've said something like this:
"I like watching movies, reading books etc.."
,which ended the conversation quickly.
Now I even started suspecting my communicating ablity
with other people including Japanese.
Maybe it's not a matter of my poor knowledge of English,
but can be that of my own communication skills.
965kai:01/11/02 01:14

you should put the most important
topic at first, then
explanatory ones latter

Some of those practiced introducing himself for the 1st grade of eikenn
would know how deliver interesting explanation their hobbies.
Social topics is rather difficult.
But also, just talking hobbies tends to be verbose thing, right.
And, here, 2ch tends to ditest harmonious feeling, "Nareai".
It would be also majour reason we don't to post to this thread.
In real life, when you talk to someone, normally, you would ask the things which
someone you talk to would be found of. You won't talk about your hobbies at first, but ask.
