Hey!!! you NEETs, nerds, YouTube-link spammers, pedophiles, neo-Nazis, Yukorin enthusiasts, Nanako SOS admirers, Part-Time-Preachers, Diplomats' spoiled sons, losers who can't remember Kanji characters, Big-boobs fans, Weeaboos from all over the world, learners of Japanese who are too lazy to update their Japanese blogs very often, cunning linguists and stupid fan girls of Johnny's Boys. And let's hope the Internet-addicted housewife will come back soon!

Sparky is 1) a Panamanian American 2) uses dear old shitty windows ME 3) lives in a state called Louisiana 4) has a big dark secret 5) and it's that he's a gay
>>8 Sparky, please do not do this again. This is a thread to chat in english, it is not a blog of yours. Your links to pointless things are useless. Please behave on topic and do not make the thread off topic as you did the last one.
Our quake-resistant houses are not likely to break down by merely a 7.2-magunitude earthquake. As we have no reports of death, injuries, and damages, I wonder why USA Today has reported it worldwide. They should report Sparky's sexual preference to the world instead. It's more newsworty.
>>36 Wait, I'm confused... I though I was talking to him, but you're saying I'm talking to you. Which means you're not talking to him and he's talking to you. Is that right?
>>37 I thought you thought you were talking to me, and you're saying I'm saying you're talking to me. Which means you're definitely talking to me, right?
Spargay dreams of becoming an android girl, right? I take it android in this context means changing his gender and undergo plastic surgery. He needs tons of money to achieve that. Good luck, Spargay.
I'm not familiar with moe comics. For me azumangadaio and keion are in the same category. Does Sparky like keion too? What's the difference between them?
Hey guys, BOKU ARUBAITOOOOOOOO Anyways, I'm working part time at this place that's terrible and about to go under (and even if it doesn't, I need to find a better job anyways)
I've been thinking of getting a teaching job. Even part time, since that'd still pay better than my current job. What do you guys think?
Sparky's interests in moe animes clearly shows he is not gay. I'm serious. where can I find a gay who wants to see school girls' underwear and erect his penis?
>>90 I'm 89. I said >>87 worte good English. However as you mentioned, "this" seemed strange to me. At first I thought he was writging stuff here to be paid.
>>89 That's what I was thinking. I'm actually more of a native than Japanese but it's a long story.
>>90 I used "this place" kind of like "this one place" to refer to the place I work at. It's a pretty colloquial usage and probably not "proper" English.
>>91 Serious. I'm Japanese. Even Japanese like me can somewhat tell who is native speaker and not here. For example, kazutaka's English is quite Japanese to me. lol He is also English teacher. Your English is more natural.
I was going to take you for a netive speaker except for "this place"
Can you speak Japanese? 日本語話せるか? リア充ですか? Where do you live now? Japan? Your English skill won't work overseas as good as in Japan. cos everyone speaks English...
>>98 He is or was a public teacher. His wage was way higher more than you. And handsome pension is guaranteed untill his death. He is a self-proclaimed master of English who invented ten theories in English. Even queer gay and unproficient teachers like him are left free in state-run schools.
>>103 Yeah, my whole family is Japanese. I also had to go to a secondary school (Japanese school) a few days a week until chu3. I wish I'd studied harder there, because now I don't know anything about proper Japanese grammar or history.
I think I'll go with the teacher idea because I like jk.
>>102 >>His wage was way higher more than you. I'm still 15. lol OK, now I have a question Why does he stick with 2ch like a NEET? What happened to him?
>>105 I don't know. He may want to have a place to show his God English ability and circulate his God teaching methods. He may also want to flaunt his gay life too. He has his own web site too. He is pretty narcissistic a man.
I have one sister, and I speak to her in Japanese. She attended university in Japan.
I spend most of my free time on the internet, hanging out in English speaking chatrooms and browsing 2ch or other Japanese sites.
Around this time of last year I was applying to jobs as 新卒... What a terrible memory. I want to cry when I think of all the entry sheets I'll have to write again and all the interviews I'll have to take.
You guys are "proper" Japanese and have English skills... Don't become like me!
>>111 I don't understand. Didn't you have a will to go to highschool? Are you going to be a student in April?
I guess your English gives you an edge and you can easily pass Japanese university examination. Many universities has unique admission system for returnees too. Why are you so hurry for the job?
Oh, I didn't make that clear did I. I graduated a US college in 2009, came to Japan, applied to a bunch of jobs unsuccessfully, and then began my current job (part time, but 40+h/wk) last summer.
I'm 23 now, turning 24. orz Can I attend Japanese college for free please?
>>121 Do strangers like me notice you are from abroads for the first meeting?
I guess I would think Yu Hayami was Japanese, thinking Kane Kosugi was not genuine Japanese. Yu Hayami spoke Japanese with some family member in Hawaii while Kosugi didn't know Japanese at all. You are in the category of Yu Hayami.
I don't think Sparky is a gay. His sexual orientation is more complicated than that. As we have been debating, Sparky looks like a boy outside, but in reality he's a girl inside. So he likes crossdressing. He thinks himself as a girl. So we should use "her" when we call Sparky.
At the same time, though, she likes girls as well as boys. This makes things quite complicated. Bisexual Crossdresser would be a correct word to describe her.
Wow this thread grew a lot since I was last here (yesterday). >>121san, so you are a native English speaker then? It certainly looks to me to be the case.
Azumanga Daioh and K-ON are both somewhat similar moe-themed high school girl-centred anime, similar to other anime such as Lucky Star. I've seen them all, none of them are by any means bad but you must be able to enjoy the moe genre.
>>79san, Toradora is an absolutely amazing anime in my opinion. However, it is not moe, it is a romance/drama, but it is indeed the best one I have seen so far.
>>145 What do you mean by moe-themed and moe for that matter? What's moe? Is it a feeling you sense when you see something attractive to you? Or other meanings?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hIQjrMHTv4 Sputnik .... USSR ..... sparked .... life ....................................... in me .....................................
>>160 Where do you live? it's unthinkable to feel in that way in such a harsh time.. Do you live in the west area from kansai? I still feel aftershocks around tokyo and kanagawa/
In tokyo and kanagawa area, biggest seisemic intensity was lower 5 and upper 5 within the scale of 7. Seisemic intensity must be 7 in Tohokku(north east area) and north kanto respectively.
Never felt an quake even a bit where I live but seems like this quake was a big one. Internet reports more faster than conventional media such as TV what the quake and second effect are like. Look at the photos above.
>>161 Sorry, sir. I felt a bit tremor when the quake occured but never wondered why. Because I was wrapped up composing a English sentence at the time. I live in Kansai district. I feel for you.
>>175 He was planning to live stream with different topic from 8:00pm (3 hours to go) but the earthquake hit so he started live streaming to report how things like in Tokyo.
>>180 You must be living outside the hit area. Fear remains now and I just wish the earthquake never happened again. It seems that if we experience emergeny, we can't afford to enjoy the thrill of emergecy. It's quite natural thing.
One of the earthquakes was a magnitude 8.9. That's huge! We can all be glad, I think, that it was off the coast and not on the ground. It looks like the tsunami formed was about 2.8m high.
>>224 Why did Tanoshingo-like keep on shouting "NHK ざまあ (that deserves NHK?)"? He seems to dislike NHK. I may be the one. But when it comes to disaster, NHK is the most reliable source.
Supposedly the number of dead has been raised to 19. I wonder how high it will be. Also it seems estimates for damages could approach \100,000,000,000.
>>227 I'm not sure but as far as I know, His Ustream account was stopped temporarily and he thought NHK asked Ustream to ban his account becasuse of copyright infringement.
But it turned out that that was his misunderstanding. NHK let him keep livestream on Ustream. I even saw one tweet saying NHK's twitter account linked his Ustream account so that people who have no aceess TV can watch NHK. That means NHK support him.
He isn't saying NHK ざまあ anymore, right? I think you heard him saying in recorded footage not in "live" footage broadcast now on Ustream.
>>243 I mean there is an interval of about two hours between earthquake and tsunami before tsunami hit sendai. Two hours are enough for most people to escape.
>>245 Yeah, even if they could escape in time, it must be tough to be in a situation where they couldn't do anything but seeing their houses were swallowed by Tsunami and carried away.
>>253 Really? but the road is almost empty at the tsunami time. I don't know why cars are running at that time though. Didn't they came from another direction. I mean they might have bothered to come near the dangerous zone.
When faced with an earthquake situation you must have a flashlight, batteries, water, small plastic bags, non perishable food, firstaid kit, hyperthermia blankets, paper tissues ready at all times. If you have pets keep extra food for them. I hope you will be OK when I return in the evening! Take care.
>>264 Yeah, pets can be served as precious food, valuable source of protein when you have no access to foods.
http://tokuriki.posterous.com/45630079 This photo shows how people are paying attention to securing enough foods at hand when you are emergnecy like this.
The other day I offered the information that kamenashi was on 4ch and you watched kamenashi on air for the first time. You throwed kisses three times for me. Then what can you do for this time?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4s2W_baaDE Is this piece from Foetus techno? I didn't regard this as techno but I realized this song was similar to examples of techno Mr.Sparky brought here. Come to think of it, this song is very American and hiphoplike.
Please! let's be culturally sensitive. I refuse to talk about celebrities and music with Japanese people. This is their darkest hour. I cannot get in touch with a colleague and his family in Sendai! they are a lovely family and I got to know them year. So please be sensitive.
>>283 Every TV broadcaster (major broadcasters of six in all and local broadcasters) has been reporting about the earthquake without CM since its occurence.
Hosodaigaku (broadcasting university) is the only one exception. It is broadcasting lectures as usual. Now TV kanagawa gave up and back to usual program with tsunami caution map on the screen.
Emergency earthquake bulletin seems to be correct so far. I felt tremors afterwards. But the authority couldn't predict the first and the strongest tremor. That was regrettable.
>>266 Thank goodness you are alive Weirdo-san. Please take care. >>273 Thank you I am watching it now. >>274 I can send hugs .I feel so sad I need one right now. >>283 Thank you. My colleague in Sendai is not listed there. Both his corporate and university sites are down. I will mail other colleagues who might know his whereabouts. I heard from one friend from Tokyo, he had major damage in his house. I have not heard from my ex flat mate nor our very dear family friends.
I am at work now but wanted to check again. What is Japanese news saying? How are the efforts going to rebuild after the earthquake? And can people contact Sendai?
>>287 Quite a lot of people are faced with power outage so you can expect them to write back to you in the meantime.
>>292 lots of aftershocks in wide areas bisides another big quake hit in inland Japan, Nagano prefecture, which I don't know whether counted as one of the after shocks. Because, I doubt Nagana didn't shake much in the quake yesterday.
People in Fukushima near the nuclear power plant are advised to evacuate because there are possibility of radiation leak.
As for resucue efforts, I doubt that there's big progress, becasue it's night here.
>>287 Wow. Hugs from white woman of 176 height? I'm kind of masochistic man. I'm grinning now. I know it's not decent at this harsh time. But I have to. Today's really stressful day. You gave me power. I feel recharged now. Thank you!
>>298 Thank you. But, the damaged area was only a small one. As for Japan as a whole, its damage is not big. Though stock prices had gone down soon after the earthquake, it would go up probably at the first of today.
The earthquake itself did not damaged so much the suffered area. Oil storage tanks had often burned when big earthquakes had occurred. And, the only buildings which I heard collapsed was the building of a university except for old houses.
But, after that, tunami attacked the area, which swallowed a lot of things, houses, moving cars, and fields. It will be a direct reason of a huge expected number of death yesterday. There are still a lot of missing people there. The reason why they are missing is probably that they were washed away off the coast due to tunami.
The earthquake was/is disasterous. I have never experienced such earthquake. The worst one Japan ever had. The power went off for more than 6 hours even where I live. Water supply is cut off even now. My family prepared some bottled water and we're using it for now. I'm deeply sorry for those who suffer from this.
God damn it Sparky, it amazes me how talented you are when it comes to making an ass of yourself. Not everything is about you, you self centered asshole. You have a shitty personality.
The tremor is horribly huge. I thought I was used to sort of tremor, but had never experienced this. I live in a compartment on 9th floor. What I thought was threatening was when glass and coffee cups and stuff dropped and shattered into pieces. Father wasn't able to come home because the public trance portation wasn't available. He says he's coming home now.
According to twitter, Kansai electric power co. and Kyusyu electric power co. has started supplyed electricity to east-area of Japan. So, if you live in Kansai area or Kyusyu area, please save electric power as possible as you can.
Now, I'm tweeting in English for all my foreign followers to let them know the situation of this earthquake in twi- tter. And I ask them "please dominate to all disaster victims of this earthquake if you'd like. Of course, I also do."
>>308 The tremor is horribly huge. I thought [ I was used to sort of tremor ], but had never experienced this. I live in a compartment on 9th floor. [ What I thought ] was [ [ threatening ] was [ when glass and coffee cups and stuff dropped and shattered into pieces ]. Father wasn't able to come home [ because the public trance portation wasn't available ]. He says [ he's coming home now ].
>>320 You trying to break apart his grammar? Well you're correct. But there were a few grammatical mistakes, I don't know if you were looking for them or not but:
The tremor is horribly huge. I thought [ I was used to {that} sort of tremor ], but {I} had never experienced this. I live in {an apartment} on {the} 9th floor. [ What I thought ] was [ [ threatening ] was [ when glass and coffee cups and stuff dropped and shattered into pieces ]. Father wasn't able to come home [ because the public {transportation} wasn't available ]. He says [ he's coming home now ].
By the way, "trance portation" sounds like an album of a trance music artist.
When the news paper(NYT) headline say; "Japan Struggles to Reach Survivors Quake Toll in Hundreds; New Radiation Fears" - Doesn't it sound like as if entire Japan is struggling for rescuing survivors, or fearing for radiation? But that is not true-. We are fine in tokyo.. We must say our condolence to the people live in the seashore and local cities in northern areas, though. I guess Western or foreign newspapers tend to exaggerate it, in particular, if it's about calamity in Japan, especially if it's NYT it's sort of their anti-Japanese traits?
>>324 I don't get what you mean. http://www.nytimes.com/ ↑ Take a look at this top page right now. All other Western papers do the same. Fear-mongering..smear-mongering
Nyt has been notoriously anti-Japan. But this is rare occasion that their seeming anti-Japan voices are not heard, because disaster already happened in Japan.
Thinking about the people working on the nuclear plants is making me cry - that I can only hope for their safety and that things turn out okay. I wish I could do something for them ;_;
I KNOW YOU ALREADY HAD 80 POUNDS OF BACON TODAY. YOU FAT FUCKIN' AMERICAN PIECE OF SHIT MOTHERFUCKERS! WHAT DID I FUCKIN TELL YOU? I TOLD YOU TO QUIT JUMPING ON THE GOD DAMN GROUND YESTERDAY! QUIT SHAKING MY MOTHERFUCKIN' HOUSE YOU BACON DOUBLE CHEESE BURGER EATING FAT COCKSUCKERS. LOOSE SOME WEIGHT CHRIST FOR FUCKIN' SAKE! JAPANESE IMMIGRATION SHOULD REFUSE THEM FAT FUCKERS TO ENTER JAPAN. I'M SO FUCKIN' PISSED!
>>327 Well newspapers will certainly exaggerate the situation if they can, because then more people buy the paper/go to the website and then the paper makes more money.
American nuclear energy policy was geared toward anti-nuclear strategy after the Theree Mile island incident happened. Japan went on putting nuclear power plants on the center of power policy even with prior two lessons. I can't hope for real (clean) energy policy even with this time meltdown incident. Vested interests matters more for politicians and business people. What a fool country!
I was really upset yesterday but this morning I received a reply from the Sendai colleague! He and his family are safe!
I have a number of Tokyo people who haven't replied yet. But most are safe. I have flat mates from years ago I lost in touch with. I am deteremined to find them and keep in touch.
It is very saddening news regarding the nuclear plant. I hope it will be under control soon.
My heart goes out to all suffering people in Japan. I believe Japanese spirit has the strength and resilience to overcome the most devastating disasters.
>>294 It is all well hugging someone over the net. I hope you do it in the real world too. Especially now when everyone needs everyone else in your country. Why don't you give power to the other lonely and frightened people? You didn't even hug me back after bragging about it so much.
Today when I went to the supermarket in Tokyo, I could never find any breads on their shelves. I went around 4 different grocery stores in my town- but completely, breads are gone at everywhere. I thought people are rushing to buy commodity foods such like breads and rice.. and all sold out after the quake, because there is emergency atmosphere in people's mind..??actually all shops were unusually crowded with people with somewhat uneasy faces. But later I heard.. breads were scarcely distributed from the beginning today, and there were only few breads on their shelves.
なに?間違いチェック?自分でも散見してるよ!!おしいだなんて? すいませんねw bread are gone at everywhere→Breads are gibe everywhere (atはいらないかも)」 commodity foods→常備食とか毎日の食糧とか、いう意味でこの語が使われるかどうか(いまいち不安?) on their shelves(スーパーの棚に…)も適切かどうか? 355はもっと 詰まんなすぎるミスなんじゃない?どうかな
Media overseas reports what Japanese media doesn't report because if Japanese media report it, that can cause a panic to Japanese people. We can't believe what our government say about the amount of radiation leak.
>>379 Sorry, as you said the USSR invaded Japan just before the declaration of surrender and the end of the World War 2. What we have in mind is the same ; How despicable and coward Russian Army is. They know Japan was powerless at that time and would declare the defeat soon. They broke the piece treaty between us. The USSR kept on fighting and invading even after August 15 (the declaration of surrender or the declaration of acceptance of unconditional surrender) , defact end of the War. I wonder why the USSR officially claimed September 2, 1945 the the victory day in 2010. I think justification of illegal invasion and occupation by The USSR is behind this move. The USSR seems to have kept on the operation of occupation after the sign of the piece treagy though.
>>384 Yomiuri Shinbu implied kan's visit to the nuclear plants may have delayed works and prompted accidents. What a scum! I think oppositons will start attacking him after citizens restored calmness.
>>385 >I wonder why the USSR officially claimed September 2, 1945 the the victory day in 2010. I think justification of illegal invasion and occupation by The USSR is behind this move.
I think the reason was that part of Japanese army was still fighting after the Japanese surrender, mostly because they didn't know the surrender. Unlike in the internet age, they weren't informed properly. As you know, Mr.(corporal)横井庄一 didn't know the war had ended until 1972.
Have you watched the photo of Shigemitu Mamoru having signed on the military ship, Missouri? That day was set as the victory day for United Nations, which has been called Kokuren in Japan after the ww2.
On today's noon, I donated my blood to Japanese red cross society. I was taken my blood for 400ml. the more you donate your blood to all the disaster victims, the more they can keep themselves alive. So, please do this right now!
Goodnight everyone. Good luck on you, your family, lover, and friends.
>>386>>390 Sorry, my comments were misleading and confusing. I knew September 2 is the official victory day for most of the allies. My question is why Russia bothered to disgnate Spetember 2 as victory day "in 2010". 2010 was just a yesteyday. I guess russan's move was to justify their illegal occpations of four islands, which they said were the legitimate fruits of victory over Japan.
As for the fighting, army couldn't easily gave up and run away, knowing civilians were raped and massacared by russian armys. And I should note Russia invaed Japan before the surrender. Japanese army negotiated truce with the USSR after 8.15 but Russians declined the offrer.
Some japanese army foght with south east nations against France and Holland and etc, knowing Japan lost.
If you're interested in what's going on about the nuclear reactors in the quake strucken area, you can watch the video above. Video footage of the press conference for foreign correspondent club explaining the current situation. This translator is really great, isn't she?
>>351 I am glad you are capable of loving. I hope you would make that love available to real people too, not just some foreigner posting here. The world would be a better place when you make someone happy so keep on loving.
If you want to someone to cheer up or take heart, the expression might be a bit unsuitable for the situation. In such cases, if I were in your shoes, I would say in the following way.
jackntilly (3 時間前) I THINK WE WOULD ALL AGREE THAT WE WOULD RATHER THE JAP'S BE GONE & WIPED OUT INTEAD OF THE POOR FUCKING DOLPHINS & WHALES ! KARMA AS NOW COME? & BITTEN YOU FUCKING JAPS RIGHT ON THE ASS & THIS MAKES ME REALLY HAPPY ! HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HOPE YOU ALL GET CANCER FROM THE NUCLEAR REACTORS YOU SCUM FUCK'S DIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROT IN HELL !!!!!!!!!!!
jackntilly (3 時間前) HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU ARREST ME YOU DUMB GOOK FUCKER. I CAN SAY WHAT? I WANT ITS NONE OF YOURE BUISNESS. I HOPE ALL YOURE FAMILY ARE DEAD !
jackntilly (2 時間前) Undeveloped? are we? Lmfao you are a dumb fuck, This tsunami as saved the UK & USA some nukes! You Gook's are ugly fucking imbreed's with ugly fucking bent as fuck teeth. Damn you are UGLY ! & now with all this nuclear shit you will be born with three head's & two dick's hahahahahahahahaha you dirty cunts i hope you all die!
Some people just need to grow up and give in to the fact that we all have different principles that we live to, more so if we come from different cultural backgrounds. I've never eaten whale or dolphin meat before, but I still don't understand what separates whales and dolphins from other more popular meat such as beef, pork and poutry. I understand their point where they claim whales may go extinct, and how torturous dolphin hunting is, but I feel that the truth is much simpler - they just can't stand the fact their 'cute' marine mammals are being hunted for food. I just hope Japan quites hunting whales and dolphins sometime soon, just so that we can get these self- righteous, self-absorbed hypocrites off our backs. If it means paying out billions of taxpayers' money to support those whose livelihood depend on hunting these animals, so be it. It will be money well spent.
>>602 お悔やみ申し上げます is for the dead. お見舞い申し上げます is for the alive sufferer.
ご冥福お祈りいたします May your [his, her] soul rest in peace works for the dead too.
These expressions are formal and ceremonial. These experessions are used, for example, in the letter or funeral or broadcasting. People would frown at us if we couldn't write or say proper Japanese in certain situations.
I guess many Japanese can't manage to write or say politely at certain situations, especially yougsters can't. I'm one of them, which doesn't mean my age is young but mean I'm still green. We don't often confront the death and if so, we don't use formal words among friends or family. When we are grown up, the society becomes more complicated and we have to know some manners.
>>410 I guess the writer is a nigger. A picture of negro man on his youtube page shows his preference for nigger culture ; gang raping and robbing and drugs. I think he would gangrape and start robbing in disasters like the latest one. I don't regard nigroman as Brits. His misspelling, imbreed of inbreed shows he is not average Brit either.
Koreans(real gook), who have stuck to Confucianism than its master Chinese, prefers to call Japanese descendants ofinbreed. So, he might be a gook brit and masquarade as normal brit. That cheating is well-known korean tactics. Either way he is scum. It's ironical that the nigroman on his page shows a pose like Bruce Lee or Karate Master. Bruce Lee is chink (1/4 german american) and often mistaken as Japanese abroads.
>>396 Thank you for the explanation of the reason.
We can't change the fact, however, the fact of interpretation(reason why) differs from person to person.(I'm not a teacher so I may be wrong.)
Back then, Japanese soldiers were indoctrinated into believing that surrendering was shameful, and were ordered to choose death rather than surrender. In the situation, they often launched desperate attack(so-called BANZAI CHARGE) so that they could die. I think the word "surrender" was not in their dictionary. And some of them wouldn't believe that Japan had lost in the war.
Dr.Nakamatsu is self-proclaimed inventer of floppy disk and self-proclaimed inventer who surpassed Edison. Also he was selected as no1 scientist in human history in an science award. He is runnnig for tokyo governer in the 2001 election.
>>422 the fact of interpretation(reason why) differs from person to person.(I'm not a teacher so I may be wrong.) Agreed. I guess hokkaido is near so exchange of information was not difficult. I guess the situation was different from soldiers who were wandering in the jungles in the Southeast Asia.
I don't have correct information. But there seemed to be shameful and shrewd army men who abandoned japanese in china and now russian-held japan and escaped first. This line was believed more and I think my father told me like that angrily. So today's study shows different angle that (some) Japanese army fought bravely against the USSR. History has two dimensions and new facts have been excavated.
I am thinking of beautiful Japan and her children. You are teaching the whole world how to unite and overcome adversity, and how resilient humans can be. Please keep on being strong.
>>436 Maybe he is in an emergency himself. Also sometimes people make themeselves unavailable when faced with extreme situations and become introverted. So do not be disappointed. I am sure he loves Japan and is very upset.
>>436 I'm still able to follow and view the thread, but have been unable to post for a while due to my ISP being banned (and now all the proxies I was using have been discovered and blocked...).
So many people here are following the crisis and trying to do what we can to make some kind of a difference.
I WANNA FUCK SOME CHICK. BECAUSE I GET HORNY WHEN EARTHQUAKE HIT JAPAN. ANY GOOD BROTHEL NEAR SENDAI? GIRLS IN SENDAI HAVE THE TIGHTEST PUSSY IN THE WORLD.
Even in Japan, he is seen as a suspicious man who uses flying shoes in his election campeign eventhough he earned highest diploma in Japan. His legend of floppydisk is still prevalent to a certain level.
I saw his house in Setagaya ward. His house can be called a mansion in American standard, wide and high. A suite room with one glass with no partition was dazzling. He said this structure is one and only in the world. Its no doubt he is a millionare. I don't know how he got it though.
google map adress 東京都世田谷区下馬六丁目31番10号
? I don't know. I can see partition-like things in the image...
I find "w" irritating now. Don't use it for several days or weeks to come please. There are many people still out there who lost their homes and properties. Let's just give them a prayer.
Human beings are a kind of animal that can think of good things or bad things at the same time. Because according to the Bible, the ancestors of them, Adam and Eve eat a fruit of knowledge. There is a proverb in Japan, which says 他人の不幸は蜜の味。 With my English ability, it's a bit difficult to translate the phrase into English. I've read a article somewhere that brain science proved that the proverb is true.
>>439 Igirisu-jin! It's nice to see you again! Thank you for you going extra miles to post here. When I put the cursor on your name, it says 代理書き込み at the bottom of my browser, meaning you asked anyone to post instead of you.
I don't know if you asked your friend to post or you used 2chan's alternate post thread to ask someone to post instead of you. I have used the latter when my ISP was banned and that wasn't easy to do it. Sorry for the trouble.
Hope the access denial to you will end soon or you'll find a new proxy.
>>476 That doesn't make it wrong, though. "In order to search for" would have a smoother flow, but isn't really necessary.
I agree that the statement should be refined with better grammar, but to state that the original didn't make sense was a bit of an overstatement in my humble opinion.
>>460 My Japanese ability is limited, but I'd translate 「代理書き込み」 as "A stranger's misfortune tastes of honey" or something similar.
It is similar to many English statements of the form "One man's [noun] is another man's [noun]", the most common of which is "One man's trash is another man's treasure."
>>483 Foreign media sources seem to be exaggerating the danger of the nuclear reactors' situation. Publishing fear-mongering and sensationalist stories for ratings is very common among these sources right now. The general public knows very little about the type of reactors involved, and are overreacting. I think the Japanese have handled the situation admirably.
I am foreign, but have friends in Japan I cannot get in contact with since the earthquake happened. They are probably safe, but I am still worried. Most of them live in central Tokyo, so they are probably safe.
>>479 Your interpretation of 代理書き込み is totally wrong, because he was urged again and again to show up to say hi here. All he did was just reponded to the requests.
>>480 what do you mean by (as in the past 45 minutes)?
>>487 >479 >Your interpretation of 代理書き込み is totally wrong, because he was urged >again and again to show up to say hi here. All he did was just reponded to >the requests.
Oops! I had copied the wrong line. I did not know many of the kanji, so I meant to copy 他人の不幸は蜜の味 but accidently copied 代理書き込み. I do not know why I did not notice that I copied the wrong words.
>480 >what do you mean by (as in the past 45 minutes)? I meant that I had only been able to post to 2ch again since 45 minutes before that post.
Now I understand what you meant. haha Seems like I jumped to a conclusion.
Thanks for the explanation of "as in the past 45 minutes." I hope native English speakers like you come visit this thread no matter if you use trip code or not.
>>489 I visit 2ch to practice reading Japanese; in return, I like to help with English when I can!
I will definitely visit this thread when I am able to. 2ch likes to block foreign ISPs, but my current VPN gives me a Japanese IP. I hope they don't ban it, so that I may continue to post.
Long ago, I used the name "Ether" here with a tripcode. For now, I think I will leave it this way unless anyone wants me to use a trip.
>I think the Japanese have handled the situation admirably.
Albeit with considerable help from the US navy offshore. We should be handling this totally on our own. Failing that, we shouldn't rely on nuclear anymore. Don't you agree?
>>491 I feel it is admirable that the Japanese realized when they needed help and asked for it. It was the responsible thing to do. Many governments would be too arrogant and prideful to ask for help, and the situation would spiral further out of control.
The fact that it took an earthquake of that magnitude to cause that mere amount of damage to the nuclear plants speaks for their safety and integrity. I support the construction of nuclear power plants, and do not think the Japanese are at fault in this situation. It is less severe than what many news sources portray it as.
While I think it is a good thing that sovereign nations exist, in the end we are all in this together. When such a large disaster occurs, it is the entire world's duty to assist one another to resolve it.
>>490 I think you should read novels or newspaper articles written in Japanese so that you can acquire an excellent style of Japanese. The Japanese language posted in those who inhabit in 2ch is terrible. I assure you. lol
>>495 Novels and newspaper articles are too far beyond my skill, so they are very difficult for me. I have never had any formal education in Japanese and have taught myself everything I know. My Japanese grammar is pretty bad. You speak English on a far higher level than I speak Japanese! I only know hiragana, katakana, maybe 100 kanji, a decent vocabulary and very basic grammar. I rely on a dictionary for most of the kanji I see.
Even if the Japanese posted on 2ch is terrible, it is still above my level!
I might start taking Japanese language classes in the fall at my university, but I am not sure yet. It depends on what other courses I have to take.
>>493 Just wondering, you might be in the minority in your country as far as your position on nuclear power as energy resources goes. I bet what happened would have greatly affected people's take on the issue where you live. It seems your logic can be easily construed in the opposite way: "Look, even the country with such advanced seismic technology suffered that much. That's a clear sign that we shouldn't go nuclear."
>>493 Your compliment is sure reassuring. Thank you very much. Having said that, from what I hear and see here in Japan, it looks like what's going on now is nothing to sneeze at. The shocking news is that Kashima Antlers, the Manchester United of Japan, in Ibaragi Prefecture has just announced that they will be canceling all their schedule indefinitely.
>>493 In that case we need to elect a World Government.
Maybe that would help with dealing with disasters and avoid famine, drought and wars.
Why not? I would elect Kame as the world prime minister. He is good at producing. I would then be the head of the world state, with power to veto his laws. He would then have to come to my room and ask me why and I would explain it to him,,,,,
>>498 Don't mention it. It's my pleasure to help someone whom I love. You are my sunshine! You are my everything! I can't live without you. Believe me!
アメリカのNYタイムズで今夜出た原発事故の最新記事のタイトルが余りに扇情的だったので 書き方に悪意があるとの文句を投稿したら やっぱりタイトルを差し替えたぞ 比較的早い対応で珍しい。元記事の本文のほうは保存してなかったので 改変されたかどうかよく判らないが、少し直したようにもみえる (元のタイトル) Japan Faces Potential Nuclear Disaster as Radiation Levels Rise ↓ (改変後タイトル) Workers Strain to Retake Control After Blast and Fire at Japan Plant
>>505 I'm worried that you are mistaken for the guy who had the privilage to get three throwing kisses and hugs via internet. It's me. LOL Don't intervene between us! hahaha. >>350 I wanted to send you back and write some inappropiate comments for this situation, like "I'm holding a pose hugged by you and now I'm closing eyes and pouting...".
But the earthquake discouraged me. It has been very serious incident and kept me from a foolish act. I appreciate your kindness. Thank you very much wholeheartedly. You are a very kind woman.
>>506 Japanese expatriates and Japanese Americans are likely to overadapt to America. They are simply coward and don't want to be disliked. Sycopant and groveling are the typical Japanese jobs. I guess Japanese American virtue is too glamorized. They were made to be on their knees to America by discrimination and illegal incarceration. I keep a distance from both Korea and China. But we should get a bit of their sticking togheter and shouting their rights in aborad.
Now, I translate this into English for all foreigners. (Notice: Please don't trust my English.)
道-Road
この道を行けばどうなるものか You wonder if you go for this road. 危ぶむなかれ、危ぶめば道はなし Don't be afraid. If you're afraid, you can never go anymore. 踏み出せばその一足は道となり、その一足は道となる The more you go, the longer the road is. 迷わず行けよ、行けば分かるさ Don't be dizzy and let yourself go. And you will know what I mean.
I think Japanese media's Internet site is irresponsible, to say at least. Because they don't put precise information but only put the articles which is "summarised" to the max, due to the limitation of volume of the text. BUT the font size on Japanese websites are needlessly big, and automatically restricting the information level and volume delivered to the Japanese people. As a result, we remain idiotic as a nation, because of this silliest "media control", or media restriction. How come we can't resist against this situation?
>>512 Are you a fan of Inoki? Poem was made famous in the inoki's retirement ceremony. The last part of his speech was from Ikkyu Osyo(monk ikkkyu). I don't know whether it was a direct excerption from ikkkyu poem or an adjustment from Ikkyuu pem. I searched on the narratative and found out a new fact. Inoki misunderstood "the original of his poem" as Ikkyu's one. But it was actuaaly the poem of poet 清沢哲夫 Tetsuo Kiyosawa. 此の道を行けば どうなるのかと 危ぶむなかれ 危ぶめば 道はなし
ふみ出せば その一足が 道となる その一足が 道である わからなくても 歩いて行け 行けば わかるよ This is the original script of the poem. It uses almost the same wording as Inoki version, meaning almost the same. Kiyosawa version feels a bit soft while Inoki's version feels more strong.
You see, English websites are properly "KERNING" the texts since quite a few years ago, But why Japanese websites could not apply the "Propotional Font" and renovate itself for delivering much better level of information? Who is neglecting the requirement of technical innovation?
I guess Not only English or Roman language websites, but Arabic language websites are Kerning the fonts as well, - Why only Japanese websites remain childish and squarely ugly with these outdated, clumsily big fonts?
Although reportedly, US army's fire extinguish team was dispatched to the nuclear plant y'day afternoon, to quench the No.4 reactor's temporary fire - and they succeeded- Could someone tell me why Japanese fire dept etc. do the same thing on their own?-
>>522 Your information is so old. The fire at No. 4 was extinguished by itself, not by the US military team, though I am thankful to their help.
It's not normal fire and there aren't so many things fire dept can do at any rate. There is nothing to burn except materials created in the process of nuclear reaction.
I am following the aftershock and radiation news. I am very sorry that my friends (real life and online) are going through this terrifying experience. I understand I cannot be of any help from such a distance. I believe there must be a samurai spirit in each of you. So please be strong and keep on fighting these dark times.
A Japanese expert is saying on NHK that the fail-safe systems are not working at all so the situation is far more worrisome than what was experienced at Three Mile Island. The government is asking the US for more knowledge and equipment to keep it under control. Maybe the media outside Japan were right all along.
>>497 Yeah, I might be in the minority. My education is primarily in the sciences, so I have more understanding of the situation than the layman who hears the word "nuclear" and cowers. People throw things out of proportion when it comes to nuclear technology. The events at Fukushima are not even at three-mile-island level -- which caused zero deaths and overall was very minor. What is true, however, is that it gave anti-nuclear tech lobbyists something to complain about.
Most countries don't even have the seismic activity Japan does. My state, for instance, never has earthquakes. We're not near the edge of a tectonic plate. I've never felt the ground shake before. We just get hurricanes, tornadoes, and massive amounts of lightning.
>>499 I suppose we will have to wait and see how the situation unfolds. It's nothing to sneeze at, sure, but I feel the situation is not as dire as many would like to believe.
>>500 I don't think a World Government would work out very well. Too many people have drastically different ideals. It would be difficult to merge even just the United States and Japan, despite how intertwined our economies are and how friendly our governments are with one another. I can only imagine the problems that would unfold when trying to absorb other nations into a World Government, such as those with China, Cuba, and many middle-eastern nations.
>>530 "Anti-nuclear tech lobbyists" seem to include former GE peole, who played major roles in designing the ones in jeorpardy, according to ABC news. Things are really spiraling out of control.
>>533 People seem to forget that the plants in question are also very old designs and were constructed pre-Chernobyl. If plants of this antiquated design could withstand this kind of shock and still not fail primary containment, it is another testament to the safety of nuclear power. Alternative sources such as coal continuously pump dangerous compounds into the air, and have far more adverse health effects than the radioactive hydrogen leaks the Fukushima plants are capable of releasing. As far as I am aware, the plants in question are now at controllable temperatures, and radiation at the gates of the plant are a mere 0.6 mSv/h. Radiation in other areas are in the µSv/h range. It's nothing to worry about. Very minor.
News sources are just blowing things way out of proportion.
>>532 Sparky, why are you even here? Rejected from /g/ so you came here of all places?
Being a little bit worried about a slight risk of contamination at a safe distance away (I mean in Tokyo) is one thing, but having to go through FORCED evacuation is quite another. The latest news is that Unit 4 is now on fire.
The BBC: "All this is already providing material for anti-nuclear groups to argue that no nuclear facility can be designed to be completely safe. This is manifestly correct; but the same is true for any industrial operation. Supporters of nuclear power will point to the fact that so far casualties number just a few, that engineers have so far - however desperately - been able to confine the problem, and that far fewer people die each year from nuclear accidents than in coal-mining."
>>539 Not just coal mining, but the health problems caused by coal plants outweigh those caused by nuclear power plants by a massive amount. Under normal operating conditions, nuclear power is clean and safe. Under normal operations, burning coal pumps carcinogens into the air at ridiculous rates. The anti-nuclear groups often try to ignore this fact.
I think that anti-nuclear groups tend to insist on only negative aspects of the employment of atomic power. Among convenient devices human beings invented there are quite a few things which claim their lives. One of typical examples is cars. I know how many people have die every year in Japan, but I've never heard that there exsists an anti- car group.
The American media loves to spin things out of control(like the number of how many people were deceased during Hurricane Katrina). I imagine the Japanese media doing the same thing.
Anyway, my condolences to anyone who were deeply affected by this disaster. I hope Japan gets back on it's feet.
>>540 I agree. Although, spent nuclear fuel does have some environmental problems, they aren't as bad as coal or oil's environmental problems. In reality, wind, solar, etc. are the best options though.
>>544 I believe that's reactor 4. I hope there isn't a THIRD fire.
>>545 Newer type 4 breeder reactors, such as molten salt reactors, are very safe and can actually use spent nuclear fuel as a new fuel source! All of that waste can be used for fuel over again in breeder reactors, reducing its radioactivity substantially.
>>547 And what would you suggest we use for power until then? Traditional sources such as coal are dirtier and less safe than nuclear power. Alternative sources like solar and wind do not provide substantial amounts of power and require far more surface area. Nuclear is the only sane choice we have right now.
Newer type 4 reactors should be used. Older type 1 and type 2 reactors should be decommissioned as much as possible and replaced.
Far more deaths are caused by coal plants every year and far more health problems are caused by coal plants every year than every other source of power combined.
Have you ever wondered why? Because almost everyone knows how covenient cars are by directly making use of them on a daily basis. Whereas when it comes to atomic power, he/she doesn't know how convenient it is because he/she doesn't directly take advantage of it. It's a question of imagination. If he/she puts the electrical plug into the outlet, one third of electricy he/she is about to use is made from atomic power.
>>549 I think Japan (and the US and other countries) should say "okay" to the protesters and shut down all the nuclear power plants for 5 days. Let's see how the protesters feel about not having electricity.
We don’t waste the experience of victims of the earthquake and the tsunami in Japan. Japanese is tested now,for diligence, wisdom, spirit and sincerity. We revive surely.then Japan becomes storonger.
The standard of the action is it ,that questions oneself “How do it become it if all members do it?”
The damage of the earthquake and the tsunami extensive. However,Japan shines agaIn.
We are relying on the US for our defense. We have to rely on them in a time of emergency like this. I'm curious what right-wing people would say in the face of all this. Is Japan really a sovereign nation? I'd really like to know what people like Shitaro Ishihara have to say. Things are no different from the time of the occupation some 60 or more years ago.
>>554 Japan relies on my country for their defense because we dismantled their military after the war. Japan has the JSDF, but if Japan wants to build a full-scale military, it would cost Japan massive amounts of money. Is it better for Japan to have their own military and spend all of that money maintaining it, or to rely on a friendly nation for help as they are now? I would think that is a decision the Japanese should make. Japan is recognized as a sovereign nation, and as such, can refuse the protection of the United States if it wishes.
Personally, I am glad that my government chooses to protect Japan.
As far as the emergency is concerned, you aren't receiving aid from only the United States. Many countries have offered help, and Japan has accepted help from several of them. In a disaster like this, it is our duty as humans to help one another. It doesn't really matter what country the help comes from, just that it comes!
Ask some people that were alive during the occupation if things are different. I may not be Japanese, but I bet they would say that things are completely different! Do you disagree?
>>555 Yea you're right- the US as it is already spends WAY too much money on its military, so Japan should take advantage of the free money as much as it can. >>553 I agree. Interestingly, economists predict that Japan's economy will grow after it recovers from the immediate effects of the disaster. Also, it allows Japan to rebuild that destroyed areas from scratch and make them better and more modern than before. Plus, the government and the people will have learned a lot from this disaster. Like Japan did after WWII, I think it will recover quickly and strongly.
It is true that having a military costs a lot of money, but I've heard some experts insist that if Japan has a full-scale military, its ecomony will grow further because of military industry
>>557 In the end, though, the military doesn't provide a return on those investments. It is a money sink; the military does not make a profit. So, while it can create jobs in the short term, in the end it is a drain on the economy.
An earth quake hit my place just now again... I didn't count, but probably more than 30 times only for a week..
>>554 "Ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what you can do for your country."
This is an excerpt from John F Kennedy's inauguration speech. We should do the best we can do. Stand up and help each other first. Don't look back in sorrow for now. That's what you can do after things were back to normal. Lets stay focused forward.
>>554 Japan is a sovereign country. Do you know how many country rely on ridiculously huge military force of the US which is about a half of the world Are these all non-sovereign nations in your definition? And do you believe that things now are the same before our independence? You'd better study history more.
I've seen other threads on this English board talking about having skype conversations to practice English. How often do these happen? I'd be willing to join in if anyone wants to practice with a native speaker.
>>567 You mean you don't have class anyway? I didn't completely understand what you said.
Either way, I hope things go well for you and that your English teacher comes back! ---- Anyhow, I have to go to my university in a few hours. I should get some sleep. Good night, everyone! It is currently 3:34 AM here. I will visit this thread again later.
I would too if I didn't have to write this damn essay. If one of you Japanese people wants to write a 6 page essay in English about the international diffusion of Japanese culture, please do and send me it.
>>568 Sweet dreams. I don't think he needed some help for his English study. He just wanted to say his English teacher from overseas escaped from Tokyo for fear that the nuke plants will scatter radiation into air and Tokyo will experience catastrophy.
I saw a blog post in which a woman posted her coworker went back to his country for the same reason. I heard European embassies in Tokyo advise expats in Tokyo to go back to their own country. So the act of his English teacher's escape for temporary self evacuation for sometime can't be blamed.
>>569 A 6 page essay? You must be joking! How many of us do you think can write such a long essay in English? You don' know how hard it is for me to make up even a few lines. If I wrote such a essay, my brain would be broken into pieces.
>>569 Internet's role of spreading Japanese pop cultures can't be ignored in your essay.
Keywords for your essay are: P to P software, Otaku, Internet forum, wapanese, anime, moe, J-pop, copyright infringement, fan sub base, voluteer translator, digital contents Train man, J-drama, Noriaki, Cool Tak, youtube, chatroom, 2channel, the list goes on and on...
>>574 Perhaps I should have added another 僕が。 僕は実に、僕が別に危険じゃないと思います。 I don't think I am actually particularly dangerous. ...says the nuclear reactor.
>>573 Are you Japanese or foreign? Could you explain a few of those? Mainly, what is the significance of Sugumiya Noriaki and copyright infringement to popular culture, and what do you mean by "chatroom" and "digital contents"? The rest of those I know. I'm going to bed though but I'll read this again tomorrow.
>>575 Japanese, and I just included Noriaki and Cool Tak as a joke. lol Yes, Cool Tak is that one but you're wrong with Noriaki. (Never heard of Sugumiya Noriaki, personally.) I'm talking about "Noriaki DA REAL." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWXSkgStqls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8XSGqO7vwk Both Cool Tak and Noriaki is known to just limited small portion of Internet users. Not popular at all among general people.
copyright infringement:J-pop and J drama, manga are spread via p to p software or bey being stored on contents storage website like Youtube. In most cases without copyright infringement, they can't be spread.
chatroom:Well, chatroom can work as a midium to spread information on Japanese pop culture...
digital contents: music, video, photos, files are all digital. If not, they can't be copied and spread in the first place. Being digital is something you take for granted in this day and age, but it's a crucial factor to spread information around the world and creat buzz and all that jazz.
>>575 I think Japanese customer service is the world's No.1. It's one of our prominent part of our culture and I bet the Japanese style service will spread around the world.
When you come to Japan, you will experience it, even in 100-yen shops.
I didn't know there was a thread like this chatting in English. I'm also a beginner at 2 channel. I just made it a rule to come to this thread every day and chat something in English.
Anyway I have a question (or doubt) about Twitter. Is Twitter really helpful for those in the stricken areas of this earthquake?
I used to enjoy Twitter, but for the past few days a lot of people seem to refrain from tweeting about their daily events such as "I'm having lunch in Shibuya now," or "I'm going out with my girlfriend," or something, about which they had tweeted before the earthquake hit Japan.
Is it wrong to tweet about something which has nothing to do with the earthquake?
Thank you. I need to brush up my English more so that I can throughly enjoy myself in this thread. I've been away from Twitter since the earthquake stoke.
>>579 Except anti-matter can only be created in miniscule quantities, is nearly impossible to contain, and it requires more energy to produce than it releases when it eliminates.
>>581 The best way to get better at any language is to use it! Have conversations in English!
>>598 I don't think it's wrong to tweet something else. For some, it might be a relief to see something not related to the disaster!
As >>600 said, there are native speakers (like myself) in this thread. I am from the United States. Feel free to practice your English; if you don't understand something, please ask about it!
>>602 I am not 601, but I agree with you. I don't understand why people like to use Twitter. It doesn't interest me. I have a Facebook account, but I almost never use it. It is the only way I can contact some people, though.
No, Twitter is not fun as far as I'm concerned. In my view, only those who have a large number of "followers" may think it's a lot of fun.
A funny thing is those who have a lot of followers seem to make a great effort to tweet a lot about the earthquake or the accidents that took place at the nuclear power plant(s). They tend to talk about something they don't really know. But I see those people aquire more and more followers day by day.
>>598 I think refraining from trivial tweets is a show of respect to those currently suffering from this disaster. Besides, at least in Japan, you would be better off keeping your tweets serious when the death toll and damage is this serious, because there is a realistic chance that some of your real life/virtual acquaintances or their friends/relatives may have been affected by it.
Thank you. As I said in 605, I don't enjoy Twitter and I've been a way from it for a while. I have a facebook account, and this is very useful to get in touch with my old friends.
Oh you're from America. I've traveled there several times.
Speaking (or writing) English is fun. I'd never noticed this until I started to chat in English here. My way of learning English has been so "passive" that I didn't (if not "never") actually use (output) it. I'll avail myself of every oppurtunity to use English.
Oh sorry I was very much mistaken. I thought you're also criticizing my schoolish English. You're actually criticizing the way 610 use this thread as his (or her) persnal diary. Now I understand. Or I'm still mistaken...
>>610 Please don't discourage people who are actually decent at writing English. >>622san, your English is fine.
I would recommend that if you think your English is very poor, write it in both Japanese and English. Since this is a Chat in English thread, you have to write in Japanese, but if you are not sure you can be understood, we can certainly understand your Japanese.
Thank you, that's a nice advice. I'll try to write in English no matter what mean guys may say (I don't mind at all^^). If I don't come up with the right expressions in English, then I may write in Japanese. But writing English without even thinking about Japanese is so far a lot of fun!
"I was not at all/not/barely/a bit/a little/kind of/kinda/sort of/sorta/ fairly/somewhat/decently/suitably/quite/moderately/ more than a little/very well/very/very much/highly/considerably/ strongly/totally/substantially/thoroughly/remarkably/completely/ utterly/absolutely/extremely/extraordinarily/incomprehensibly/ unfathomably surprised at the size of the earthquake."
There is some vocabulary for you, in order of strength, weakest to strongest. Some of those sound a bit odd with "surprised" though, but better with other words. But in general they can all be used in the same fashion.
>>622 High school english is fine. I'm not that good at writing and make mistakes many many times. For me this is a thread for writing english without worrying too much about grammer, style, pitch etc...
>>610 Whether or not you feel it looks high-school level or what not makes no difference. If it's valid English, then it's valid English. If I can understand it, then I can understand it. You can argue with me about it if you like, but good luck. People come here to practice their English skills; you shouldn't discourage them, no matter what level they're at... and that 「英作文」, as you put it, was fine.
If you feel that you're qualified to comment, please proceed in English. I'm a native speaker and Japanese is still a bit difficult for me. Yours was basic enough that even I could understand it, though. One might even call it... high-school level.
Someone in Sendai, one of the places where they experienced the most Tsunami damages recorded this video in his house. This shows how the quake shook his house all the way.
I have a question to native English speakers. I was watching March 17th edition of CNN student news and I felt a bit odd watching it.
The anchor was reporting news of Japan's disaster. First, with his arms down on his sides and then he put his left hand in his pocket, and finally, he put both of his hands in his pockets.
It's impossible for Japanese TV anchors to report news, tragic one for that matter with his hands in his pockets. There's no doubt if Japanese anchor did the same, the TV station would be flooded with calls from viewers, protesting his behavior.
Did he mean to creat relaxed atmosphere? What do you think? I thought this is a kind of cultural difference but it's kind of rude to report news that way, right? Does he want to look cool or something by putting hands in his pocket? Any idea? It's not that I hate him or anything, by the way.
塾の課題です。和訳御願します If rational examination revealed that we had been unfairly treated by the community, philosophers recommended that we be no more bothered by the judgement than we would be if we had been approached by a confused reason bent on proving that two and two amounted to five.
I went to do some grocery shopping and shelves for rice and batteries are EMPTY! This isn't Tokyo here, this is so far away from Tokyo. I did't think I needed to be prepared but now I feel I might need to have some stock of everything...
>>687 I've never seen this "student news" program before, but it appear to be far less formal than what we usually consider as news sources. It does not give off any sort of professional air.
A page linked to from the link you provided states that "CNN Student News is a ten-minute, commercial-free, daily news program for middle and high-school students produced by the journalists and educators at CNN."
The reason it seems so unprofessional is because it's designed to appeal to middle and high-school students, not adults. As for his mannerisms, such as putting his hands in his pockets... as far as I am aware, there is no negative stigma attached to this in the West. So it is a cultural difference (to some degree) in my opinion. Even so, I don't think you would see these kinds of relaxed mannerisms in a broadcast designed for an adult audience.
The pacing, language, explanations, and his mannerisms all seemed tuned for school kids.
>>692 That's terrible! I hope you have enough reserves.
Hearing that kind of thing makes me wish there was something I could do to help in a more direct way. I've donated to a relief fund, but I wish I could come help in person.
>>697 My Japanese is bad, but from what I can gather you're chastising people making use of their English here. Unless I am mistaken, you're criticizing people for using English on an English board in a thread labeled "Chat in English".
What sense does that make? None that I can gather.
If I'm failing to grasp the implications of what you said, I apologize in advance.
>>703-704 I don't understand what you are talking about. I haven't seen anyone who say something like >>695 outside 2ch.
The way you are looking the world is pretty outlandish. You look like a person who do not have anyone talk to everyday and thinking about crazy things.
Sorry I simply don't understand what >>703-704 is trying to drive at. I can at least see him (or her) failing to get his (her) message across. But anyway who cares after all? haha
As Kennedy put it, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country, especially in a time of crisis like this. Think what you can do to help the people affected, instead of asking foreign countries for help.
I assume what he was trying to say had more to do with the nuclear crisis. He's likely thinking our government is not capable of getting the mess under control and that only the US can help us out. I can kind of relate to him.
2ch people in Japan, how are you doing? My thoughts are with you. I keep thinking of what to do to help. These dark times will pass and Japanese people will be happy again. I am hoping, sincerely wanting that to happen.
Hey guys. Why don't you donate money or blood for all the disaster victims? Don't hesitate! Your brave can save their lives. All we don't have to do is to have large stock of food or drink. People who didn't got such trouble in your city must not have large stock of food or drink. otherwise, the number of the dead will increase more and more... All they need is food and drink. So, please don't do such silly thing! OK? If you have some foreign followers live in Japan in your twitter, please send these messages to them. These are so important. Anyway, they all need your help. The more you help them with your money or blood, the closer the resurrection day of Miyagi will be.

Point A,B,C and D are the actual hypocenter of the current earthquakes. The mountain surrounded by 4 points is Mt. Fuji. The mastermind is indeed trying to let Mt. Fuji get errupted. How crazy are they?
David Rockefeller and his CFR clans are the real enemies to human speciies. They have already murdered more than 20,000 Japanese with TSUNAMI and are still trying to materialize the world of 2012 movie.
Please spread this info. as much as possible in order to stop those fanatics. We will never forgive them. We will not.
>>693 Thank you for your response. Some part of me think that makes sense, but some part don't. But yeah, maybe you're right.
>>694 Thank you for your post. You can have full transcription on their site so it's popular among some advanced English learners. You can check what the anchor said in the show where you couldn't catch what he said later.
I recongnize cultural differences more between US and Japan by reading your post. It may be a partly a matter of professionalism but even if the program is designed for kids, still, putting hands in pockets look kind of rude and even arrogant to viewers at least to me on Japanese standard. The theme talking about was a terrible disaster many people are suffering from to boot. I don't represent all Japanese people but I think quite a lot of people agree with me.
It was very good to know perspectives of people overseas. Thanks!
http://video.nytimes.com/video/2011/03/17/multimedia/100000000731108/tc-031711-tabuchi.html Mood on calm in Tokyo The anti-Japanese expat reporter Hiroko Tabuchi, the typical yellow monkey, who is loyal to her White Master! I wonder..how come her face is so weirdly deformed.. like a horror movie? She is reporting on the above video, “All the parts of Tokyo is experiencing Rolling Blackouts”..although it’s entirely false. The truth is “Almost all the metropolitan area of Tokyo is Not experiencing Rolling Blackouts at all, but only the suburban areas are affected.” This person has been launching series of sensational/exaggerating articles about Japan's desaster since a week ago- probablly really really well paid by her masters
>>734 It's fine to criticize her integrity, but you don't need to be racist about it.
Furthermore, in the video, she says it affects "some parts of Tokyo" and warns of risks that it COULD affect Tokyo as a whole in the future, not that it WOULD or HAS. There is a key difference here. Effectively, you and her both said the exact same thing, and you're arguing about absolutely nothing.
>>735 You need to see what she's been writing. I've been seeing the series of her reportings on New York Times in last 7 days, (with her american collegues.) all of them banging on about Japan's situation as desperate as possible, which is incessantly suggesting Japan "as a whole" is facing the "catastrophe" ..the final disaster.. Its quite disturbing. Awful sensationalism,
>>735 You shouldn't talk about the mere details of what you can get by your English listening comprehention or something, WHy the Japanese always switch the important topic into the banal "Your Listening comprehention, and mine" issue? WHAT A SHAME? Why you haven't been checking any of her outrageous other articles on the NYT TOP PAGE?
>>738 (It's obvious from my writing, but I am not 735.)
You might be correct about her writing, though I am not sure I've read her writing. But creating sensation is the strategy all media use in order to sell their products, and we might just follow the strategy.
Besides, you don't have to use the word, "yellow monkey", to describe her. It's a discriminatory expression to call all yellows. I assume that you are Japanese and if so you are humiliating yourself.
Why you cannot talk about the main issue? Under this horrible situation? I would say she is very influential culprit, because she is writing the top articles, using her Japanese language ability. Don't ankle-biting my posts. This is critical situation- Because all these Anglo-Jewish media is aiming to maximize the negative effect of all this natural and nuclear disaster in Japan in order to bring Japan down into unprecedented low. Please read the articles! YOU are a shame.
>739 I am not Japanese. I am a native speaker. As I said, feel free to criticize her integrity. I agree, and hate how sensationalist the news has been making things. I was pointing out that 734 was mistaken for criticizing what she said about the rolling blackouts, as she did not say that the entirety or even the majority of Tokyo was experiencing them. I also didn't like how he referred to a "White Master" as if to suggest that somehow White people keep people as their lapdogs. It suggests that being White means you use people, and it's racist. And for the record, I am White.
>>738 Yes, the sensationalist reporting in the West has made me quite angry too! I am not defending her use of sensationalist reporting in other articles, I was simply saying that the point with which 734 attacked her regarding the blackouts was false, because she never stated what he claimed she stated.
>>739 I guess it's because if you understand her saying correctly, what she is saying is essentially accurate. That's 735 wanted to say in my understanding.
By the way, which article written by her is outrageously biased? I read "Frantic Repairs Go On at Plant as Japan Raises Severity of Crisis" and did not think that bad, though it's clear that she mistrusts our government. (But who does believe our government now? I don't. Do you?) So could you pick one article which clearly perverts the truth?
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/18/world/asia/18intel.html?scp=18&sq=Hiroko%20Tabuchi&st=cse Radiation Spread Seen; Frantic Repairs Go On ↓ (Originally this tile was: "Frantic Repairs Go On at Plant as Japan Raises Severity of Crisis"- This title sounds very malicious & sensational--So I actually blamed them posting a comment on this issue on NYT's other article's comment page, then actually.. they replaced the title 2,3 hours ago, although my post hasn't appeared and it's unclear if it's affected on the change or not)
Yellow monkey" was the term which one of my friend used to describe Norimitsu Onishi, the infamous japan basher- the NYT's ex-Tokyo bureau chief.. He is a Japanese-in disguise, a korean Japanese (very anti-Japan, But now it seems like Tabuchi is taking over his position)
> 399.SteveWestern Massachusetts March 18th, 201110:51 am > Every day for the past week the NYT headlines implied impending disaster just moments away. > Now the headlines subtly shifts from imminent disaster to "it may take weeks". > I'm starting to wonder if the Japanese "understatements" are more accurate than the NYT announcements > of impending doom. I wonder how much a subscription to NHK costs??
- ↑ This is all true. NYT has been threatening about "inpending disaster just moments away" every day during this past week- That was really terrible & disturbing. I cannot believe if you missed their maliciousness..
>>744 Among them, which was the worst in your opinion?
The one with the strong opinion is "Dearth of Candor From Japan’s Leadership". (I guess they changed the title of this one as well. The original was "Flaw in Japan's Leadership Increases the Sense of Urgency" or something) I don't like their argument, but this is a classic example of certain way to look at Japan: Japan is culturally different, the system is flawed, bureaucrats are too strong etc... One of the contributers for "Dearth of Candor From Japan’s Leadership" is Norimitsu, and this is typical of his argument.
>>748 First of all I felt disturbed when I saw the 1st articles’ introduction (although none of us was observing the situation as “crisis verged toward catastrophe” at all yet-It rubbed my nerve!,) :http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/15/world/asia/15nuclear.html?scp=12&sq=Hiroko%20Tabuchi&st=cse Japan Faces Potential Nuclear Disaster as Radiation Levels Rise “Japan’s nuclear crisis verged toward catastrophe on Tuesday after an explosion damaged the vessel containing the nuclear core at one reactor and a fire at another spewed large amounts of radioactive material into the air,…”-
Then, This articles uses a lot of stimulus words continuously, like.. “a very high risk of further leakage”, “It diminished hopes earlier..”
(- Sorry, I found the 4th article was Martin Fackler<The current Tokyo bureau chief> s, but not Tabuchi’s, but his introduction is also tinted with bulgar sensationalism.
In the 2nd article’s title, the word “Ruptured” - sounds very sensational and Malicious to me, apparently written by the cheap “doomsayers.” - Regardless of what the actually danger level is, the article is just only trying to inflame the doom-and-gloomed feeling.., at its best-!
As to the “Dearth of Candor From Japan’s Leadership”, (yes, it’s co-authored by Onishi. I was surprised he’s back!) This introduction is also, only filled with threatening tones. And it says, “The sound and white smoke on Saturday turned out to be the first in a series of explosions that set off a desperate struggle to bring four reactors under control after their cooling systems were knocked out by the earthquake and tsunami.” ..regardless of what the detail of the fact is, the article is just trying to make sure the readers would Believe the situation is leaning toward catastrophe.
>>744 Do you know she has a Twitter account? If so, it's worth tweeting her directly not as long as she doesn't block you. While 2chan can serve as a loudspeaker to get your point across, you can contact her to express you idea to her.
>>750 Ok. I see now. What you wanted to say was that their tone of voices is inflammatory. Then I agree. I especially hate all headers.
Many foreigners have fled from Japan and that might be affected by these media. To me they look ridiculous. If you carefully follow news, you must realize to stay in Tokyo is not unsafe. Maybe they don't understand Japanese well and are too scared about this opaque situation, (as a japanese to live overseas, I understand that feeling) or this is another exaggeration by media, and the proportion of them among internationals in Japan is actually small.
I don't know what you mean by this question but I'm in Japan. It's just that I happened to see her on Twitter. And your welcome. It's an age of Social media and you can connect to almost anybody, which was impossible before Internet. I don't like socila media's interactive feature because I have no one to connect with.
The Central League tops must be hopelessly stupid to begin normal games only two weeks after the quake under these circumstances. Does he seriously believe that watching baseball games would really invigorate people in dire straits? Even the players' union were against it. I think they'll lose tons of fans if they hold nighter games while the eastern Japan is living under daily rotational blackouts due to limited electricity. The blackout in the evenings and night time is the worst because of the chill and darkness but I've seen not one person utter a single word of complaint anywhere. Not when our car's running low on gas but most the gas stations are closed due to insufficient supply, and even if it's open, when we have to queue for hours to buy 20L or less gas, not when all the supermarkets are completely out of many basic food items. We're still being hit by afterquakes and every time, I grab my kids to throw them under the dining table if necessary. We're afraid to go outside for fear of radiation, but still have to in order to earn money and buy food. But we accept all this because we know people out there are doing their damn best for us.
To think that these people hadn't already ruled out the possibily of night games was unbelievable and simply outrageous. I was thinking of taking my kids out to the ball game this summer, but not anymore.
Sorry for the sudden rant. I only found out about the government requesting central league basebal to refrain from night games. I had thought that was a given, in consideration of the large proportion of the public already assisting in electricity conservation. And just in case, I meant dire straits for those in the severely affected area, not me.
Players are the ones that will be least affected money-wise by the postponement. People relying on baseball for their living will be the ones hardest hit. The postponement is bad for the economy. Officials at Minister of Bunka-sho won't be affected either.
Bunka-sho sounds strange to me 文科省is the abbreviation for 文部科学省, which is pronounced "monbukagakusho" in Japanese. So you should pronunce it "monkasho"
>>765 I'd say it's b-rated blog whose purpose is draw people as much as people to it to gain affiliate money, pay per click type advert and such. Not a reliable sourse of information, too.
What does the speaker say at the beginning of the video? I trasnscribed it but am not sure some parts. --------------- The tragedy that has occurred in Japan has been devastating for all of us. Whether you're from Japan or seeing the coverage in the news, all of our thoughts and prayers go out to the nation of Japan and their? people as it deals with the destructive *** facts of this tragedy. -------------- Thank you.
>>779 “The tragedy that has occurred in Japan has been devastating for all of us. Whether you are from Japan, or seeing the coverage in the news, all of our thoughts and prayers go out to the nation of Japan, and their people, as they deal with the destructive effects of this tragedy.”
>>783 If I were saying it, I would use "its", because he said "the nation of Japan", which is not plural.
I think that Europeans would disagree with me though. I have noticed that they use "their". For example, I would say "Company pays its employees", but I have seen it written (mostly by Europeans) as "Company pays their employees".
Long story short: I don't know which is technically correct, but either will be understood (and probably not even noticed outside of some academic's ivory tower).
So, what are u doing during electric power cut time? if this power cut at the night time, i feel so cold and darkness thus i can feel a little bit terror.
i want to repaire nuclear plant as fast as possible but news is broadcasting it's useless anymore. absolutely, radiation crisis is very serious but electric power down has difficulty for our live as well as radiation hazard. above all, petrol is nothing gus station. goods are nothing at store. and public transportation is not normal operation thus i can't go to work.
it goes without saying i want to help a lot of earthquake victims but current my life is so hard like this !! therefore i can't help considering only myself currently.
I was curious about why >>787 knows the phrase "ivory tower" because I've thought that 象牙の塔, the Japanese word for ivory tower, is an expression peculiar to Japan. I knew it is derived from a French word when I consulted the dictionary.
(Re. Hiroko Tabuchi's issue-) It was quite foolish for me to see that >>742 and >>743 promptly appeared to put oppositions to my posts, when I criticized how inflammatory the Tabuchi & NYtimes reported Japanese disaster's volatile situation- And it was more than stupid because the reason why I dared to call her as "Yellow Monkey" was of course, - as a Japanese by myself- a kind of "JOKE" ..I intentionally applied the "TERM" which White people ARE ACTUALLY USING in their soil. ..I have been living in US until recently so I know it very well, and what the reality is. - Otherwise- why do I have to use such an apparent derogatory about our own race?
The thing which I meant to say in my post was: If Hiroko Tabuchi starts to write in such stupid manner, bought off by NYT's money, it means she would automatically become an Yellow Monkey to serve White-dominated Western media. Why I would change my position? And if a white person promptly appeared again here and blamed on me, I wouldn't care!
I'm surprised the suggested facebook page of Hiroko Tabuchi.was of other.sluttish girl's...with same name. Actually the two girls look alike, but I don't think they are same person- Whatta stupid development on this thread after I mentioned her?
-It's appalling to see that after 1 week has passed since the quake, NYT suddenly ceased to insert their series of inflammatory articles about Japan since today, It is shameless for all the readers to find - how they were doing it tactically just for selling paper. and how Japanese reporter was bought off. but they seems to realize: They would not see the sitation going to develop just as they wish-like Japan to falling into final desaster,.
As u know current our circumstances. i didn't eat breakfast today's morning due to nothing at least bread in the convenience store !
there're nothing anything. we can't take anything. of course, our town is NOT the disaster area !!
it might not get enough to salary next smonth 'Cause there're nothing work by this massive earthquake effection. it's unbelievable state now. how will i live after this !?
i dislike to que the petrol station very early morning thus i haven't got the petrol in my car. i'm always using my bisycle to go to somewhere therefore i can't visit to far stores now.
there're nothing goods in stores near around my home surely. i know if i go to far area by using my car to buy something, i'll be able to get.
A short time ago, I was watching niconico namahouso casting Shigeru Izumiya, Ataru Nakamura, and Tatsuo Kamon. It was so interesting. The program's air time was only 1 hour at first, but Izumiya decided to suspend the time because of so many viewers' comments. They sang one by one. Izumiya did his own song"Shunkasyuutou(Four seasons)", Nakamura did"Tomodachi no uta(Song for my friend), and Kamon did "Ikari no groove(groove in anger). We all viewers were so excited. yeah.
Oh, next time, on Ustream. I'm waitng for starting the program now.
I checked "Asahi HAIKU network"..where foreigners enjoy creating lyrical Haiku on Aashi Shimbun's site. It still exists!! (.. I don't know how it's gonna be next month, though..)
F**k all the idiots in tokyo buying up food and paper products I only have one loo roll left and can't find any in all the nearby stores F**k them i really hope transport will be restored soon
>>791 "Ivory Tower" is a common expression in English to describe people that focus on theory more than practicality. Like an English professor that spends his days arguing with other professors over the usage of prepositions at the beginning of the sentence. It doesn't mean that his work is useless, just that.... no one in the Real World cares about such trivial things.
>>812 These are common expression to japan and english. The meaning is exactly the same. I am not sure which is the original, but suspect it is from english.
Not just English professors, but most of the Japanese learning English care about such trivial things all the time. That always strikes me as a waste of time. Why is it such a big deal whether "in school" or "at school"?
>>810 In the part of Tokyo where I live, things are normal as far as food supply. The only difference I have noticed is that the stores are dimly lit. No problem with public transportation either. How about where you live, friends?
Oh BTW, is it that most foreign residents have fled from Tokyo already? Or are you still here in Tokyo?
>>818 I think fleeing from Tokyo is absolutely unnecessary. I understand their concern if they have kids or are pregnant. But, if most of foreigners have left Tokyo, then they are no-brainers.
I seemed to set my expectation too high for Dragon Age 2. It's a boring story with full of bugs. If asked to rate the game on the scale of 1 to 10, I would give it 5. My Hawke's attack speed has been getting slower because of Izzy and Bastian's friendly/rivalry bonuses. How frustrating.
>>819 I just agree with your feeling about fleeing foreigners.. But your usage of the word "no-brainer" is really correct?.. I was thinking it means "考えなくても当然な事”"今では当たり前になり過ぎて、 意識にすら上らないこと" (I've always seeng that the word is used in meaning that way..
But you used it to suggest "ばか、あほ、間抜け" ) ...oh yeah. it seems the dictionaly also mentioned that meaning.. (So is it really correct?..I didn't know that)
>>823 In my opinion, when the word " no-brainer" is used as the former meaning in a sentence the subject makes something like " events" or" objects". On the other hand, when it is used as the latter meaning, the suject becomes " person." So it is obvious that>>818 used it as the latter meaning because the subject " they" means " persons"
I was thinking the word "no-brainer" is the funniest word, which may phonetically corresponds to "脳タリン" "無能" (- because the word "no" and "脳" sound like homonyms, ..So, one may easily confuse that it would have above japanese meanings, but the fact is,. I thought it doesn't have such meaning..) But you mean, it means the same?..
A large proportion of people in any country actually don't have a brain. They are like robots responding to stimulus from outside. Watch out for a smart guy who attempts to manipulate them.
A man walked into a doctor’s surgery with a parrot sitting on his shoulder. “What can I do for you?” the doctor asked the man. The parrot said, “Could you please remove this man from my butt?”
Earthquake survivors should be given privacy. Cameras are prying on survivors, forcing them talk when they have lost or found a family member. There is no respect sometimes. they are shown crying and in shock. That is so cruel!
People should be allowed to recuperate and be allowed to be in peace. they should talk only if they want to. We outside Japan should be sensitive and be careful of the voyeuristic, manipulative media.
1. If you describe a decision or question as a no-brainer, you mean that it is a very easy one to answer or make. (informal) 2. If you describe a person or action as a no-brainer, you mean that they are stupid. (informal)
I am clueless what you are talking about. I'll bet most Japanese have never even heard the word before (me included).
"Transhumanism is an international intellectual and cultural movement that affirms the possibility and desirability of fundamentally transforming ..." Wikipedia トランスヒューマニスム
I just checked a Wikipedia page about what transhumanism is. They explain it in a difficult way, but transhumanism is basically a technology that enables a human being to live longer.
I guess wooden utility pole can be seen in a rural area. I don't remember the last time I saw it though. Maybe that was more than one or two decades ago. It could happen that wooden utility poles were replaced with new ones.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykPu5ttmqYA wooden pole in Hatano. Hatano is not far from Tokyo and Yokohama, nearly one hour distance to Shinjuku by rapid Train. Hatano is a typical country place lined with mountains. I used to enjoy the scenaries from the train window ,inculuding the scenary of Hatano and retunred to the starting point(my staition) by using an admission ticket. I can't do this anymore because almost all ticket wicket became automatic and the time of gettin on and off would be recored by the machine.
When you go to NY's Manhattan, you cannot see even a single electric pole.. But in the neighboring area, such as New Jersey City or Queens borough, actually you can easily see the wooden poles.. I'm also sometimes putting my eyes on the pictures of the town scapes in the US -found on the Internet, to find whether they have wooden poles
>>882 That's sooooo stupid descion. It's still 4 months to go and until then there'll be no nuke radiation worries. The measure like that doesn't work in favor of Japan's economy. If we are serious about reviving Japan, we have to do economic activities as usual, shopping, eating out, traveling etc. Less spending for Japan effects Japan's economy in a bad way.
Having said that, the way overseas media reports the series of disastrous events here sure make you people overseas and foreign residents in Japan alike think that the situations here are more terrible than they actually are. Overseas media is overreacting, sensationalizing and exaggerating things (partly to get people's attention and get more ad revenue or/and subscription.)
What Japanese media reports are more close, if not pinpoint accurate, to the current real nuke plant situation. But foreign residents here and people abroad don't understand Japanese and all they can do is to read the reports of media overseas which exaggerate things.
Watch this video. ttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tH7JYAphuTE He's from America and has lived in Japan for years and very fulent. Actually he's more fluent than average Japanese. He even speak Tohoku dialect, which is the Tsunami struck region. His message in the vid hits the nail right on the head. He speaks in English in the video.
I do wanna suggest that gov. Shintaro Ishihara and Yomiuri Shinbun president Nabetsune and Osaka chairYoshiaki Nagata should sock up the radioactivity from the Fukushima.
Transhumanism: an ideology and movement which seeks to develop and make available technologies that eliminate aging and greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities, in order to achieve a "posthuman future".
Personally, I think Ishihara's coments are the worst. He is not human. No one can say such a thing as 天罰 or somethig like that, if he takes quake survivers' situation into consideration.
Attention! of Johnny's fans all over the world. The agency announced that all the Johnny's entertainers will join in relief activities project for Tohoku Earthquake. The agency provided 2 power-supply cars and five 11-ton trucks to several municipal governments. In addition to that, all the entertainers including Masahiko Kondo with the longest carrer, Shonen-tai, SMAP, and ARASHI will band together to support the disaster victims for the long term. They took action for 9 years after Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake by J-FRIENDS made of TOKIO, V6 and kinki kids whose members are from Kansai area. The new project this time will become a larger scale activity than that. -------------------------- Time for KG2chan to donate some money for the project's success.
I think you are completely right, as is the person in that video. Thank you for posting that reply. It's hard to find people in the US that think like that. Everyone thinks it's a huge disaster and that Japan has become dangerous.
>>884 Haha, Daniel Kahl. This is the first time I've seen him for a long period (more than 5 years). He look like an old man right now. But no doubt a good video. I like it.
>>893 You're welcome. He's a TV personality and famouse. I didn't know that he has his Youtube account until someone put its link on his twitter account.
>>894 Yeah, I hadn't seen him for a while until I saw the video, too and thought that he looks very old in the video than when I saw him last. I hope he's doing fine.
An American professor of Aoyama Gakuin University said things like Daniel Karl on TV. He sad He has his wife and children in Tokyo and it was no problem.
Funny thing is that he always speaks Japanese in TV shows, almost nobody has heard him speak English.
Some of the comments from the Japanese to the video says, "You speak English very well!"
I for one, has seen him speaking English in NHK's cooking program. http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/english/tv/kitchen/ In the middle of the page on the right, there's "Basics" and there are 2 links to two videos where Daniel is speaking English. This show is for foregners interested in Japanese dishes.
I happened to see Chuck Willson, another famous American geinojin today on TV. At first I didn't know the man on TV was Chuck Willson and thought the man was new to me because he looked quite old with gray hair. His big wide shoulders and reminescent face told he was Chuck Willson leter. It was a couple of years sinece I saw Chuck on TV. He was as famous as Dave Spector, the most famous gaijin in Japan. Thesedays I only see him at least once in a year in a sumo tournament among geijojins in a seasonal special program. This time he was sitting on a booth and replying about the incidents unique to Japan. It had nothing to do with the earthquake.
His English seems to be still halting even though he has lived in Japan for a long time. I dont know what makes the difference between Dave Spector and Chuck Willson. His written Japanese are perfect at first glance though. http://www.chuckwil.com/column/back100.html
Nanashi, you seem to do part-time. You can save money and come to Japan on your private trip this summer.
With very cheap air fare you buy on the net, extreme cheap accomodations like youth hostel free JR pass, it's not possible to afford your private trip.
Brush teath, is what I do and has never been a solution.
Maybe my teeh are artificial so smell factors are accumulated inside the artificial teath for years. All I can do is replace them with new one but it costs a lot and takes a lot of time.
>>910 What is the problem? They're saying that Japan's economy will come back strong, so foreign investors should not pull out their money. It's a good thing, because if all foreign investors pull out their money, it would hurt Japan's economy.
>>884 I just posted that "Daniel Karl"s "Stop the histeria" youtube link to the NYT's comment page, then it's just allowed by the moderater and posted kind of immediatelly!! ..quite quicker than usual! (though usually it takes much longer time to be moderated, or not even allowed..to be posted!)
Oh. but I'm just beginning to wonder..because when i posted Daniel kahl's link there, I wrote like; "He(Daniel) is really localized to Yamagata pref..", But- now i find the word "localize" is not usually.. used for describing a person, who becomes "Local" to particular area? (-since I found it's not written as the definition in dictionary?)
- though I felt uncertain, now I wonder if it was incorrect..
>>915 Not such thing happened this time. (actually I intentionally omitted the first "h" letter from the url, but they restored entire line by themselves.) Actually, lately when I putted other newspaper articles' links once it was dismissed- But i guess it depends. Becuase in current situation- sometimes youtube or private video footage is very important. So they even put the youtube links or private Twitter account in their reports about ongoing events, such as revoluion in Egypt-.. I think their moderators are putting their eyes on it and allow it to be posted..if they see its appropriate..
>>915 I think they're not Japanese, so they're not so absloutists..or strict in keeping their regulation (with posting rules etc.) they can bend the regulation because they're not so hardheaded like most of the Japanese web administrators etc.. -as long as the web forum's software has some flexibility-
in this regard, I think Japanese in general are vacuously formalistic, I dislike that
I thought some of the things which Japanese never think of..which is found in US is such like..Ungly Sweater contest, http://images.christmastimeclipart.com/images/2/1252545439175_646/page-02.jpg (actually I noticed there is such apparel brand exists) Or such thing like "oldest microwave" contest.. (the contest was held by local newspaper company in chicago..)
>>892 Yes thank you for the information. I kept in touch with my Japanese teachers regarding this. Will find out how to help. Thanks again. Did you know some crazy fan bought about a 1000 of Akanishi's new CD. She should have donated it for the earthquake cause.
I've just finished reading a Sidney Sheldon's novel entitled " If Tomorrow Comes." There were quite a few words in the novel whose meaings I don't know, still I enjoyed the storygood enough. I underlined those words with (in?) a red pencil so that I could review them afterward. Now I feel like giving up the plan because I consumed the whole pencil.
The CNN anchorwoman Soledad O'Brien has always been my idol. Saw her reporting from the hardest hit areas. The sad thing was what brought her here was one of Japan's worst disasters ever.
The conversation between the two doesn't make sense. at least Doraemon knows that Fukishima is a prefecture, although Nobita said nothing about it. So Doraemon surely have some information about it.
From what I have gathered online, people are already starting to worry about the safety of Japanese products. A girl in Canada is asking if it's safe to use her headphone made in Japan that she just recently bought. The toll on Japan's economy could be devastating.
Couldn't agree more. They are the reason there's not many girls here. Generally speaking, girls are much better at English. Ei-ota morons (low-IQ English geeks) should get out of here.
Not really. A lot of people in chat oriented threads like this use tripcodes and names just for chat purpose, but in most other threads people use names and tripcodes only when they need to, like when seeking advice over a long period of time.
No and no. Rest assured. The power to the plant has been pretty much restored. Things will get back to normal earlier than feared. Rolling blackouts are in effect only on the far outskirts of Tokyo.
If anything, this might be a rare chance for you to experience a somewhat different outlook of Tokyo, with illumination subdued and an eerie quietness everywhere.
I'm thinking about going to Japan not with a school trip, and instead with one or two friends. But to pay for it, we would need to find a scholarship or financial aid or get a job in Japan or something. Any ideas?
Not being able to go and help, the only thing I can do is not to spread any false information and raise fears among people outside of Japan. That's true, but trust us, there's really nothing to worry about here right now. Foreign media coverage of the situation is too fear-mongering.
Some shed light on the ways overseas media reports situations here inaccurately.
http://jpquake.wikispaces.com/Journalist+Wall+of+Shame "This Wall of Shame is being assembled by various people, many of whom are on the ground in Japan as residents, not temporarily assigned journalists, who are sick of the sensationalist, overly speculative, and just plain bad reporting that has gone on since the Tohoku quake in Japan last Friday (March 11)."
Cough cough... I have had this bad cough for a week. My throat is really sore. And I have this bad feeling that my left ear is getting sore too. Whenever I have a cold, I've got middle ear infection. It seriously hurts!!
