Hey!!! you NEETs, nerds, YouTube-link spammers, pedophiles, neo-Nazis,
Yukorin enthusiasts, Nanako SOS admirers, Part-Time-Preachers,
Diplomats' spoiled sons, losers who can't remember Kanji characters,
Big-boobs fans, Weeaboos from all over the world, learners of Japanese
who are too lazy to update their Japanese blogs very often, and cunning
linguists. And Let's pray for the rehabilitation of the Internet-addicted
housewife.

Here is the place to have a blast!!!!!

Wondering if the time posters here chat on Skype will come
in the near future or it'll just end up with a pie in the sky.

I was trying to create a new thread for the longest time but it kept giving me an error.
Anyways I'll start us out by linking a funny game I just played: http://armorgames.com/play/2407/karoshi-suicide-salaryman

I hope this isn't offensive to anyone, I just like the game.

I knew Karoshi is well known overseas and the word used in English
vocabuklary but didn't expect it to become a game.

Seems like it's a game portal. Amateur game manufacuteres post their
own game to the site for everybody to play?

I reached to Stage 3 (or 4? I forgot.) but don't know how to finish the stage.
Mu hunch says the piece of paper in the air is the key though.

Yep, it's a game portal where developers can submit flash games. They have to be approved first though.

Stage 3 and 4 both use your mouse pointer in a creative way...
5名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/10/20(月) 12:41:29
Mouse pointer?

I don't think there was an instruction saying you need to use a mouse
pointer. Anyway, I'm not a game person who thinks playing a game is
a kind of wate of time. If I had time to to do something, I'd rather
read websites or blogs written in English to improve my English.

Sounds like I'm a boring man but I don't have any game consoles.
No Wii, No PSP, No DS, No X-box, whatever.
I haven't played any online games either.

But I heard there're some online games in which you can play with
random foreginers and you cooperated with them to move on to next stages
of the game. That can be useful to improve English, text chatting with them
and all.

I heard that kind of game require much PC resourses and you need
to have a good graphic card on board.

Both Powell and Obama are black who are elite and look white.
So it is natural that Powell endorses Obama. I can't believe right
wing politicians are supporting Obama, though.
36名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/10/22(水) 23:46:21
I have a question to Ameican people here.

Obama's father is black but I heard he's not a descendent of
slaves. I just thought some white people can't tolerate a decendent
of slaves becoming president but can accept black president if his
ancestors aren't slaves.

Do you think there would be any differences in American people's minds
if his father were a decendent of slaves?
37名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/10/23(木) 01:29:27
>>35
Sorry, Obama doesnt look white.
Powell looks whiter but doesn't look white.
I agree race had connection with Powell's endorsement.
Powell was different from so-called neo-cons. So Powell
can be be attracted to Democrats more easily than hawks like Bill Kristol.
However MaCain is Powell's old friend and MaCain's policy is close to
Powell's position.
I think race was the decisive point.

I heard it was rather black people who didn't like Obama's

descencants of slaves are real Black brethren.

Ah, Leahman リーマン? I have just noticed your pun.
I'm not sure アメリカ人 really understood your pun.
Slaryman and Leahman man sounds similar. So He may have understood
the word game on the spot. I'm not sure he knew the word
リーマン(abbreviation of salaryman) which sounds exactly the same as Leahman(リーマン) in
Japanese.
To be serious I don't they they should be killed. At least they got
punishment with their bankruptcy.
Financial institutions who will be relieved should be punished somehow
in exchange for infushion of public funds.
CEOs who get away with golden parachute should return their money.
They say salary was proportionate to their revenue. But revenue was
padded by fictional supposition.

First I doubted my ear.
Then I finally found out I was just dumb, not literally.
"naacp" sounded like nwapc for example at any cost.

N(WA, which means double A) CP! hahahahaha.

In this case, is W pronouced as double(dAbl) or W(dAbju:)?
41名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/10/23(木) 04:15:15
dumb is not equal to mute?

43Ether ◆4p9idX66UM :2008/10/23(木) 05:28:06
>>41
Dumb can be mute, or it can also mean stupid. The latter is purely casual
in use. It's universal slang, if you will.

>>40
Not entirely sure what you're asking. NAACP is an acronym, though people
generally say "n double a c p" instead of "n a a c p" since there are
two of the letter 'a' right next to one another.
44Ether ◆4p9idX66UM :2008/10/23(木) 05:32:23
>>40
I should also mention that while that seems redundant due to the fact
that saying "double" is longer than saying "a", this isn't the case for
many English speakers. It seems more awkward to say "a a" than to say
"double a". "Double a" transitions very easily for many of us, where
as "a a" is choppy and takes more effort.
45名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/10/23(木) 06:23:24
? So they say N double A CP. Not NWAPC?
The pronunciations of W and Double is similar.
That's another confusing point.

The letter "W" can be a substitute for double on the
internet by dictionary. Even if in that case, Do you read "double" not "W"?
For example, "W-login?".
46名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/10/23(木) 06:26:06

Do you guys have email magazines come to your inbox?

In Japan, there are several major email magazine stands where you can
choose email magazines you want to be delivered. The genrews are unlimitied
ranging from relationships, PC skills, English learning, financing,
child rearing, business. You name it they have it. Some are free some
require you to pay a certain amount a month. Most of them is free.

You can even be a publisher of a email magazine. It's not difficult to
become a publisher. Just following steps on these email magazine stands
and you'll be a publisher. Their source of revenue is ads on each
magazines.

I read several email magazines delivered. Do you have one stop mail magazine
stands like this in your country? As far as I know, the most common way of getting
email magazine is you subscribe on a particular website, not a email magazine
stand.
62Ether ◆4p9idX66UM :2008/10/23(木) 13:19:39
>>61
You can do the same thing here, but it's generally only an online process.
You sign up online, not in a real location. Though, I don't think it's
particularly popular. Heck, most people seem to subscribe to real magazines
online as well these days. I can't remember seeing any real magazine stands
here, but I've heard they still exist in places like New York.
63名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/10/23(木) 14:02:11
>>62
I'm talking about online process and emai magazine stands mean
websites that publish emailmagazine.

For instance, if I start to publish email magazine, then I go to one
of these email magazine website and sign up. The interval I write
an email magazine can be deicided by me. My magazine tytle would be
"How to read newspaper in English." First, nobody hasn't subscribed my
magazine, but my email magazine would be featured as a new email
magazine in the category of learning English, and English learners
who spot my magazine and get interested in would subscribe my magazine.
They are all online process.
64アメリカ人 ◆oUpRKPX5A2 :2008/10/23(木) 14:02:30
>>61
I'm only familiar with email "newsletters" which just give a brief update on content, but I don't think many people use them.
The trend now is to offer online content for free and use advertisements to make money.
The New York Times has been doing this for awhile (www.nytimes.com) since newspapers have been losing money for a long time.
Print media just isn't as popular anymore since the internet is so convenient (and free).

Question: Do most people read these email magazines on their cellphones or on their PC?
65名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/10/23(木) 14:44:34
>>64
I know what you mean because I read NYT and CNN's "newsletter," too.
This is my observation but these "newsletter's main focus is to
lure subscribers to the original website, which is NYT.com or CNN.com
while those "email magazine" I talked about is giving useful information
without luring to any specific websites.

But if email magazine's writer owns business, then that can double as
a marketing tool to lure subscribers to their websites.

In my case, I read email magazines on my PC but when you subscribe a
email mgazine filling in your cell phone's address, they can be delivered
to your cell phone, I guess. But I have email magazines delivered to hotmail
and hotmail can be seen through cell phone, so I think I can read my email
magazine with my cell phone, too.

Never stop speaking English, even if you aren't very good at it.
The key is to have the guts to speak, I have observed that
Japanese are very shy when it comes to English, because they may
fear failure or mistakes. If this describes you accurately, then
discard the notion that you must be perfect, you only need to
get your point across. Once you can speak and be understood, then
the correction can begin.

So apparently there are plans for a 2nd Yamanote line Halloween party (I heard the one a few days ago was very small):

Time and Place
Start Time:
Friday, October 31, 2008 at 9:00pm
End Time:
Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 12:00am
Location:
Yamanote train line
City/Town:
Tokyo, Japan
meet at Shibuya Station, Hachiko entrance, at 9:30. To be followed by Ageha, which is free for those in costume.

I found this on the social networking site Facebook:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?sid=9f2f557966e497a906fd220996d56eea&refurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fs.php%3Finit%3Dq%26q%3Dyamanote%2Bhalloween%26ref%3Dts%26sid%3D9f2f557966e497a906fd220996d56eea&eid=39161295319
Sorry, it requires you to register to see the page I'm pretty sure.

Maybe some 日本人 or expats could post a report here if they see the party?
*I don't necessarily support the idea of this party, I just thought people would be interested to hear about it*

Image TV cooking program.
They don't have to use numbers. They can
instruct like まずfirst 次にnext 次にnext.

Japanese is also confused about how to count creatures.
匹ひきhiki is applicable to all creatures except human-beings.
But 鳥が三匹いる is not good in writing. We should write
鳥が三羽いる.
Pronunciation is also tiring.
ippiki nihiki sannbiki yonnhiki gohiki roppiki
We learne through repetition. There must be a rule. But I don't know.

In advanced japanese we might use like ジャップを10匹ぶっ殺した
as an deragotory intention.

keira: I agree with you about holidays and their lost meanings.
Christmas, for example, has become more of an excuse to go shopping
for those shopaholics, and a painful & costly chore for others...

Kids receive mountains of toys and other junk, only to be played with for
a very short while, then stashed away indefinitely. Adults receive stuff
they will never take out of the closet after the holiday's over, and they
are quietly brought over to a friend's garage sale one day. There is no
real love or thoughts in those presents, but just another wrapped item so it
appears that you are loved by someone...
What happened to the religious stuff that was supposedly the main event?

I was shocked to see Japanese houses decorated with Christmas lights..
That was never seen in residencial buildings when I still lived there
(17 years ago).
But I hear people still line-up to buy KFC (!) that is unchanged since then.
And of course, they will turn around and go to jinja on the New Year's Day.

Maybe it is one example of Japanese culture becoming more diverse -
which maybe is a good thing in some ways, although I hate to see
the traditional rituals slowly being replaced.
To me, Christmas has practically no meaning, since I don't practice
Christianity and don't believe in commercialism tied up with religious
holidays.
161名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/10/31(金) 05:35:19
Halloween is an anglo-cheltic tradition. So there is a
strong connection between Halloween and the USA.
Christmas is a commemoration day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ
needless to say.

There is a big gap between japan and the USA
as for relavence to those festivals. I don't wanna see costume
players who are brainwashed by the US and biased media
and corporations and authorities in Japan.

Christmas is tolerable. It's too late.
It's already rooted in our life. can't stop it.
But not any more. Japanese brain-washed ugly kids in
halloween fashion knocking on other's doors indiscrimanately?

Should we bring Rodney Peairs?
It was tragic but good lesson for japanese. Many japanese think americans as
friendly and cheerful. Peairs decorated his house with Haloween fashion.
It's obvious that Peairs recognize hattori as trick-or-treat
kid. But he killed hattori...

I am not a pumpkin carving Halloween fanatic, but don't mind giving out
candies sometimes. I enjoy seeing neighbor's children dress up and
have fun. When I see bigger kids, say over 12, I make them sing a
song, or tell a joke before the treat gets handed out.
But I don't care for those teenagers who come to my door smelling
like ashtray. They can choose either to be like that, or stay as
kids.

When we need to be concerned is when we can't let kids do the
trick-or-treating anymore, because it's too scary to knock on
people's doors.

Yes, A lot of the Christianity is leaving Christmas, but maybe that aspect isn't so bad. It's good that people of all religions can still celebrate the holidays and get together.
I know some Atheists and Buddhists who still celebrate the holidays because they do it for the friendly atmosphere and parties that go with it. My friends are sort of starting to let go of the material side of Christmas and I think that's good.
We value each other's company, not our gifts.

>>165
>>166
I personally believe that if you're 14 or older, you're too old to be trick or treating.
I'm tired of old teenagers coming up to my door, not even in costume and asking for candy. D:
I think "aren't you old enough to buy your own candy? Leave some for the little kids!"
And there are parents too, who have their babies dressed up and in strollers. It's obvious the babies are too young to eat the candy, the mothers just want to eat it all for themselves!
but I always give out candy regardless because I don't want anyone to throw eggs at my house or car. A neighbor down the street has toilet paper thrown in their trees almost every year. D:

Teen can be a singular noun (someone who's age is 13-19) or plural noun (used to describe all the numbers from 13-19).

I learned to say "バスで学校にいく"(go to school by bus) in my Japanese class,

the band don't put the lyrics on their website or they don't have
a website in the first place.

Since I don't have a psychic power to know the band's name, and I'm

I asked for help in a forum, too, which is kind of like 2ch's sibling,

The below is a thread for people living in 京橋.

Well since Election Day is coming up (November 4 this Tuesday, I'm voting) I thought it'd be interesting for everyone to take a look at the latest poll results:
www.fivethirtyeight.com
538 = the number of electoral votes. A candidate must win at least 270 electoral votes to win. Each state is worth a certain amount of electoral votes depending on its population.
For example, California is worth 55 votes and Hawaii is worth 4 votes.
www.fivethirtyeight.com's creator was actually a baseball statistician and now he uses those statics skills to compile data from many polls to predict the 2008 election.

>>211
Whoops, I should proofread.
"statics skills" should be "statistics skills"
Also, I should mention that a state is won by a candidate if the majority of the population votes for him.
If the state is won, all electoral votes are won by the candidate (Blue = Obama and Red = McCain projections).
213名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/03(月) 14:22:21

America, the epicenter of the economic crisis, and a sinister and ugly
Presidential election. Even so, America should do what it's supposed to do
as the center of the world.

Economists at Wall Street pointed out that the Korean economy is infested
with spectators. The Wall Street Journal says that even though multiple problems
are seen at the same time in Korea, Korean high-ranking officers refuse financial
support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Moreover, it's heard from
various places that Korea has forgotten the lessons of the Asian currency crisis.
That is absolutely ridiculous. Who triggered the crisis and spread it all over the
world? Why are they that arrogant?
221名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/03(月) 19:07:04
As far as IMF support is concerned, it is America who should begin to accept
their aid. The only reason America hasn't gone bankrupt until now is because
it can print as many dollar bills as they want. Without that ability, spectators would have
gulped down the whole country already.

Aside from the burst of the American housing bubble and the root causes of speculation,
there are more genuine American economic illnesses. Namely, the trade and budget
deficit of America that have become monstrous. The more dollar bills America prints,
the larger the budget deficit will be ballooning. Someday, America will be placing this
enormous burden on the entire world. Even if that time comes, will Wall Street scold
the country it has damaged, and still point their finger at the infestation of currency specters?

At the sight of the scene in Washington, the problematic politics America is carrying seem
bigger than they have ever been. The intense and ugly election campaign season is heating
up in America between Democrats and Republicans just like before, as if it were a divided
nation. The Eastern and Western coastal regions side with Democratic Party, while inland regions
favor the Republican Party. 70% of those making an annual salary of less than $35,000 support
Obama's candidacy, while those making more than $50,000 per year tend to support McCain.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
Is this the words of Jefferson?
But I think these words were aimed at each white and each christian.
I heard left-wingers and right-wingers were accusing the glorification of
jefferson's words because it's off the jefferson's real intention.
Jeffeson was against slavery but he had slaves.
He had a plan to repatriate all the slaves to Africa.
Jefferson pitied african slaves but he owned slaves to pay back
his debt. He pitied african slaves but it's from superior feelings.
Jeffeson admitted blacks were inferior.

And many Americans today still think blacks are inferior. My own grand-
mother voted against Obama solely because his skin color is black. I
mean for gods sake, the man was raised by white guardians, has a white
attitude, appearance, mannerisms...
The guy came from poverty (born from a teenage mother and a negligent
father), but he didn't come from the freaking ghetto.

The fact that the Republicans' scare tactics and propaganda campaigns
(via Obama being hinted as a Muslim (and therefore a terrorist)) did
not work this campaign is merely that people disapprove of
Bush's presidency, not so much that they wanted a black president or
thought his policies were so wonderful.

Anyway, for those in here associating Obama with Proposition 8 banning

(and Presidents themselves, for that matter) don't really have much say
in State legislatures. Especially before they're even in office.

Proposition 8 was for California only, and was voted for or against
by Californians only. Florida had a similar Proposition 2, which also
passed. Considering both Florida and California went blue (especially
California), this was a shock to quite a few people.

I'm not sure what Obama can do, but it'd be really tough to succeed to Bush,
who deregulated the monetary system of America.

If I'm not mistaken, Obama promised to create room for employment.

I don't believe so.
Sure, Obama said America should make brand-new cars, not Japan nor Korea.
But he seemed to forget that Toyota set up car factories in America
and employed many American people: In other words, Toyota became
an American company, so to say. If the would-be president bashed
the Japanese company, both sides lose good oppotunities.

Well, I'm not sure, however, if Obama is so short-sighted
that all foregine companies should be out from America.

What is GM for you?
You have google and microsoft, Apple and so on. But something is missing.
World wide manufactuaring company in the world.
Can GE and Catapillar and Boeing substitute the lack of GM?
Car society is typical of american life style. And GM represents it.
Is it enough that you can drive a car regardless of the origin of car makers?

It's ironic that Japan is rather train based society.

I think the reason why other countries lost their respect for America is because the Bush administration used our "superpower" status too much.
Right after 9/11 the world supported us, but when Bush decided to use our power to fight a stupid war in Iraq and try to bully countries like Iran and North Korea,
I think most of the world saw us as power hungry and arrogant.
It'd be hard for Obama to make things worse when he is reversing many of Bush's failed policies.

he's elected Biden as vice president and many other old faces as well.

But he was chosen because he promised he would protect national economy,

The problem is, where does he prepare big money to realize his promise.
Personally, he would make many contries buy American Treasury Bonds.

Japan obeyed the order. so If GM failed, it would be a tie at least.
Japan didn't order the USA to stop car manufacturing.
In essence japanese car industries are very afraid or the failure of

If GM collapses, how influence will Japan suffer?
I guess maybe several Japanese regional banks will go bunkrupt.
Because of CDS; Credit Default Swap.

Easily to say, it's the life insurance for corporation.
When a company where you owned the credit go bunkrupt,
if you have paid the premium of this CDS, you can collect this credit's insurance money.
Scale of CDS market become more than 50 trillion.

Different from human being insurance, corporation's death causes a chain reaction.
Therefore become tremendous money need. That's why AIG was saved by public funds.
That's the reason of financial crisis and shrinking credit.

If GM collapses, all over the world companies that has GM's credit and dealing CDS suffer big loss.
and maybe several Japanese regional banks have it.

So, the fact is that you don't know anything about an ally Japan, American babies.

Albright gave a light water reactor to DPRK.
We've really suffered for what the states did for this decade and we will for some decades more.

But we've supported the states in Iraq and also on the sea.
We had to make a low against our constitution which the states had forced us after WW2.

Nevertheless, the states didn't support us even to be a member of the UN security council.

You made an attack only on Iraq with your own ideas and interests but never on DPRK.
Our requests are never promised and our problems are never solved in spite of our devotion.

Moreover, Democrats assert that the states must reconsider the allied countries.
Soon US government will start talking about restrictions that will target mainly Japanese companies.
That was what they have ever done saying "equality, redress, and protection".

What you wanna change on the earth?

Lots of Korean people suffer from the Hwabyeong desease.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hwabyeong

Hwabyeong, literally "anger illness" or "fire illness”, is a Korean term for a kind of
culture-bound somatization disorder, a mental illness.
It manifests as one or more of a wide range of physical symptoms,
in response to emotional disturbance, such as stress from troublesome
interpersonal relationships or life crises.
It most often occurs in females in their menopausal years.

Assuming that the singer meant to say something like "is it okay for us to celebrate?",
"can we celebrate?" is acceptable
-----------------------
Let me explain. komuro's lyrics, especially "can you celebrate"
is famous for a bad exaple of japanese wrong English. First, Peter
Barakan, British Journalist living in Japan Pointed out the strangeness
of the lyrics.
Komuro wanted to say 祝福してくれる? in English, "can you celebrate".
komuro's intention is not asking the possibility nor asking permisson but just
asking and expecting celebration from a lover. In this context,
"would you celebrate" sounds better?
Secondly "can you celebrate" lacks object. Komuro didn't know
"celebrate" means "throw party with drinks" when it is in
intransitive verb form. Komuro wanted to say "Can (would) you celebrate (commemorate)
"our marriage?" or "would you congratulate me on wedding" and as such.

"Can you kiss me tonight" must sound odd too. Kissing amuro namie
needs some courage? "can you kiss me tonight" is OK?

"祝福してくれる?" This japanese lacks object too.
But it can include object like marriage or passing the exam
depending on the situations.
543名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/11(火) 01:28:00
"Commemorate" and "celebrate" are the things
which go with party or ceremony?
I think komuro's intention didn't go so far.
He just wanted to say "wish me well".
In that sense "celebrate" will be unstable word no matter how
it is used.

Having lived in America my whole life, that is news to me... Now I'm not
a white girl, but I'm fairly sure white women here don't discriminate.
Actually, a large majority can't tell the difference between Korean, Chinese, or
Japanese. You are all just Asians to them.

Also, after Obama won the election, news programs were saying that
people ALL OVER THE WORLD were celebrating. How does the U.S. presidents
affect other countries? I realize that the U.S. economy has an impact
on other country's economies and a president's policies influence the
economy... but is it really something to be celebrating over?

I'm not the trolling guy but regarding Obama's winning the election and
it's influence on the world, let me give you my two yen.

I'm not very interested in politics but I heard one of the Obama's
compaign promises is withdrawal from Iraq while MacCain's is keep
staying there for decades, maybe permanently.

American invasion, or I should say the advancement to Iraq, and the following
presense has been opposed worldwide and many demonstrations against US's
policy has been observed worldwide. In that sense, people all over the world,
no matter where they live, may be celebrating Obama's win.

Second, people around the world may be celebrating his win because
of his ethnic origin. His win can be a small step in the right direction
for the world without racial discriminations. I can imagine many people
throught the world welcome the world without racial descriminations.

Having said that, It might be just that US media is arrogant enough
to think that the world evolves around the US and that people all over the
world celebrate a new president of America.

How can you know about the details all over the world in your home?

Media media media media mediummmmmmmmmmmm!

You'll learn that the main stream of the world medium
is heavily biased toward so-called left wings.
Neally same as followings of communist (and China is the country of communists).
In fact, election is a battle of wisdom between medium and you people.
This time most of you became cowards and finally got tricked by honeyed words of medium.
When your economy is bad, you should revitalize your economy.

Most of the world (US) medium won't tell you
but soon your country starts begging to China to make up your nation debt,
does anything that China requests you,
imposes more taxes on companies in US,
makes them weaker than those in other countries,
also makes your domestic economy weaker and distributes the tax incomes to you people,
turns out to distribute them to their family companies like Clinton had done.
Actually that made the bubble economy of sub prime loans in the states.

Who do you think will be pleased by those policies?
You need some imaginations.
Maybe you must have needed them much more earlier though.

hentai is 変態 means hen (strange) tai=person
574名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/11(火) 10:03:07
>>571
The letter is same actually.
変身 reads Henshin.
変態 reads Hentai.

変 originally means "Change".
変身 literally means Change oneself/one's body.
変態 literally means Changed/Altered state/status.

Can I make myself understood?
575名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/11(火) 10:11:35
And 変態 means also sexually abnormal/perverted
but it is the word meaning transformation or metamorphosis in general.
576名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/11(火) 10:26:12
変態 is an abbreviation of 変態性欲(sexual) perversion or pervert.
But in general 変態 means perversion or pervert.

>>575
Are you really Japanese?
政権politicl power changed変態 is a correct Japanese in

We don't usually use 変態 as original meaning except
academic use.
578名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/11(火) 10:40:36
I don't think so.
If it's an abbreviation, it should be 変性 or 変欲.
性欲 means sexual desire.
So what does 変態 mean in this complex?

変態 isn't an abbreviation and must have meaning itself as I said above.

But not in colloquial use. I think if primary and junior-hign students
were taught complete metamorphosis完全変態 in class, they feel amused
and start gigling.

People have much more chances to talk about pervert than
metamophosis of insects except scientists and insect freaks.
変態 is predominantly used as pervert.
581名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/11(火) 11:04:03
It's my own hypothesis, but let me tell you.

We use this expression as usual. 「彼は変だ。」彼(KARE)=He
It means [He is weird/strange.]
But I think it isn't original use of the word "変".

We use also this. 「彼は変人だ。」
It means [He is a strange/ an eccentric person.]
These usages bear quite a close each other.
So I guess that someone happened to use "変だ" as an abbreviation of "変人だ" or whatever "変〜だ"
and it gotta be a custom like we usually use it.

The letter "変" didn't have meaning of "strange".
It must come from the variation of "Changed/Altered".

586名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/11(火) 11:28:56
It may be complexed a little in English...

変人(HEN JIN) means a strange person.
But it sounds like a person who was changed/altered in Japan.
So I wanna say the meaning of "strange" must come from the variation of "changed/altered"...
It's difficult to tell you
but I think we didn't have the expresion "変だ" in the ancient Japan.
587名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/11(火) 11:36:27
OK. I finished my handwork.

This will be better.
「But it sounds like a person who was changed/altered a little in Japanese.」

and others hardly do. That's all.

RoninDave is a bit blunt with his statements, but a lot of what was said in the video made sense to me, although I still don't know if I entirely support the train party.
Man, I couldn't believe how spot on Gimmeaflakeman was when he said (paraphrase) "Gaijin in Japan are like dogs, they carve out their own territory and won't make eye contact with other gaijin."
This exactly happened to me in Japan. For some reason it felt strange to see other gaijin (except when at tourist places like kinkakuji), especially when I was at a movie theater and the only other gaijin was sitting in my row.
I did say hi to some gaijin once and they did not seem happy to have to acknowledge me.

I think you couldn't have understood what you have done.

Japanese people don't use their pc for looking at web sites,
don't make any sites ourselves, mostly just watching them through our cellphones.
And post sometimes on 2ch, mixi and stuffs.
Very few people have their own blogs, and profiles were popular among teenagers recently,
but still there're large amount of people in Japan who isn't even concerned with the net personally
if they are over 50s especially.
(Japanese majority on the net are under 40s and male.)

The contens on the net were made on special purposes to catch our eyes you know.
So in our ordinary life, I can say that the result isn't always general for all to be sure.

I guess... that you might say "Hentai Hentai" so often to your friends and your family.
So you can regard it as a matter of course.
You searched the word on google, found a lot of results, and relieved yourself.

Korean guys are welcome in the US, while Japs are unwelcome.
It's because white girls love Korean guys.

Korean guys are so popular among white girls!
I'm proud of it.

People say Korea is the most sophisticated nation in the world.
They are attracted with Korean people and its cultures.

It's called Korean Wave. All the people around the world can't
stop watching Korean Dramas, Movies, and actors/actresses.
Also, Korean Pop musis overwhems the world. BoA is quite popular
all over the world. She's now horribly popular among Japan and the US.
I don't think BoA is not happy about Japs hearing her songs.
Anyway, all those cultures position Korean Bland quite higher.
That's one of the reasons why white girls find Korean guys mesmerizing.:)

it's because they are ugly.

Japanese media is very preferable to Korean stars even after

Japanese biggest advertisement agency's boss is promoting korean wave.
He was born in korea and wanted to do something for Korea in his

There is a tendency that Korean CDs sell in a huge amount in

Guys, it's true though.
Today, kimchi is served all over the world, which is considered as the main
reason why Koreans have started to be accepted and loved by the world,
not to mention their pop culture and whatnot.
Also, things Korean are so highly advanced, sophisticated and original
in every aspect that lots of educated people and intellectuals appreciate
the core of Korean culture. You know that.
That is, now Korea is becoming the de-facto world standards saturating
every corner of your life with their awsomeness, even invisibly and inaudibly.

It's not race. Japanese hating Japanese when they travel.
Japanese may flock and help each other in abroad.
But it's not affection and pride. Just anxious and worried.

Then this will be better.

you wanna pick up the images and the posters by your taste and rules?
821名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/13(木) 10:07:36
I don't wanna be mean to you, Sparky.
But you know, setting rules is a great trouble even to grown-ups.
Wise congressmen are all upset to work it out as you see them on TV.

I think the site such as 2ch or 4chan is easy to get bigger without rules.
Sometimes you can find sparkling treasures among them,
but you can't make those treasures separated because
they can exist only on so many useless/tasteless posts and unconcerned matters to you.
Can you imagine that?

Least rules make its power most. It's completely same in the field of economy.

So what do you have to do now?
I think you had better look for more of friends in your age who have close taste to you.
And help them sometimes just as you want it now.
If you (your friends and yourself) will need the site in future,
you will discuss the rules and make them as least as possible.
Friends are much important than rules themselves.
Friends will be the sources of your true power.

Sounds too much time-consuming?

Ok so for the past 4 years in Japanese class we've always begun with a series of exercises.
I think it's called radio taisou (ラジオ体操?). Anyways, whatever we do in class is most certainly a bastardization of Japanese culture.
So who does these exercises in Japan? Kids? Grandmas? Stay at home wives? And how often (daily, special occasions)?

I'm in my thirties and the situation might be different now.
But when I was in elementary school, students did ラジオ体操 right
after a PE class starts to worm up if remember correctly.
Or at other sports events such as 運動会 to warm up.

When I was doing a manual labor at a construction site when doing a part time job,
workers there did ラジオ体操 at maybe 8:30 or so to the recorded music. So that's mainly
for warming up, too.

ラジオ体操 is done by elementary kids in summer during summer vacation, too.
When I was a kid, kids had to gather at public open space early in the morning (6:30 or so)
except Sundays to do the exercise. Kids now in my neghbors just have to
gather two weeks (except sundays) or so out of 40 day summer vacation to do the exercise.
Back in my time, we kids had to do it the whole summer vacation except Sundays.

The main purpose of that during summer vacation is based on the idea that
kids have to live a diciplined life even during summer vacation by getting
up early. In my case, I often slept again after doing the exercise and coming
back home, and my mom often scolded me for that. After kids did the exercise, they get in
line to get their cards stamped. Depends on the number of stamps
you get during summer vacation, kids can get something like coupon by which
they can get stationery. (at least in my neighborhood and back in time)
868名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/14(金) 03:10:25
ラジオ体操 is aired on TV, too. Some people might do it watching it.
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=xS92XkVKM0Q

Kids doing the exercise during summer vacation.

At a sports event
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=dkVeyjfcLms&feature=related
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=OwXSCzguSkM&feature=related

So all in all, young and old, some are forced to do it like kids in summer
and some old people do it voluntarily on daily basis for their health as a
light exercise. It's very common. But I can't stand American B movies ridiculing
it as stereotype of Japan which I might have seen before. In my case,
I haven't done it for ages. As you might recognize, ラジオ体操 doesn't look cool
after all.

ラジオ体操 is for warm-up for kids, and for adults (mainly old people)
its for their health. So we never do it before math, history, or you name it,
classes except a PE class.

Although ラジオ体操 has been exercised in the elemantory school,
efect is suspectable for the youth. As for myself I just
did ラジオ体操 on occasions prepared for ラジオ体操.
Children won't play ラジオ体操 voluntarily in my experience.
If there are people who are exercising ラジオ体操, it
must be elderlies. Many elderlies must be doing ラジオ体操 for health.
ラジオ体操 has childhood image as weel as elderly image.
And it has comical slow move.
ラジオ体操 has corny image rather than fashoinable image.

So 外人 doing ラジオ体操 may have looked funny to him.
ラジオ体操's image is very Japanese and far from the American
image. American exercise in general is very fast and energetic.
873名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/14(金) 07:38:33
>>868 seems to have the same opinion as me.

If there are people who are exercising [constantly] ラジオ体操
It made more clear.
874名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/14(金) 08:02:29
ラジオ体操 has been exercised for educational aim too.
It has been considerd to create solidarity and descipline.
I don't know today's status.
But factory workers including white collar men used to exercise ラジオ体操 in a group
before the start of their jobs.

I saw this summer a bulletin about the program of ラジオ体操
during summer vacation.
So ラジオ体操 in summer vacation is still alive.
ラジオ体操 in summer vacation is usually done in park within our
community.
It is pretty early, around 6am. I woke up unwillingly and
gathered in a park. I may have slept again back in my home as long as
I remember.
875名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/14(金) 08:16:56
To Create "harmony" should have been menthioned too.
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=V_gLOUbQZgk&feature=related
I had thought Americans regared ラジオ体操 as funny and something
negative, fascism-like exercise.
There was a trade friction between America and Japan.
I suspect the movie is misleading and too syterotypical.
But as you can see in the video around 7:00 on youtube,
it is actually a part of ラジオ体操. It is typical move.
But only a part of ラジオ体操.
We don't continue one move such a long time.

I always wonder why Americans won't wear uniform in car manufactering
factory. It's too shoddy. It divides factory workers and staff in the office
as well. American may regard uniform as like something in Jail though.
In japan even engineer wear the same or similar uniform.
http://www2g.biglobe.ne.jp/~aviation/tanaka02.jpg
He is tanako koichi, nobel laureate. He has no doctor degree.
He was just one engineer in manufacturing company.

Japanese.
876名無しさん@英語勉強中:2008/11/14(金) 08:29:20
I should have used "sloppy" instead of shoddy.

In recent years, worker dispathcing become quite popular.
there is a big wall even in the factory wokers,
temporary worker or employee. Corporate giant like Toyota
easily fire temporary worker when they are in depression.

car industry. He did for various reasons. Frustrated life

So heres my plan /g/.

I'm going to drive up to spark'ys house around 6 or 8 - it doesn't matter what time I get there because he's always in there.

So what I'm going to do is wear a ski hood and light a cigarette. Then I'm going to make a cardboard cutout of ME-Tan.

>> Anonymous 11/04/08(Tue)20:08 No.2608949

When I go up to the door, sparky won't know the difference because he's an idiot that likes to troll /g/ but does it wrong.

When I get inside I'm going to ask him to show me his awesome computer. Then when his back is turned I'm going to hit him over the head and knock him unconcious.

Afterwards I will take him down to his cellar. I might run into his mom, but that's okay because I'm a spy and I'll just backstab that bitch.

>> Anonymous 11/04/08(Tue)20:08 No.2608951

After he wakes up he'll notice that he is tied up. I am going to be raping him so it's going to be pretty uncomfortable and awkward situation.

After about 6 hours of rape and sandwiches I will then proceed to cut open his skull. Then rape his brain. It will be a brain fuck.

After all of this I will then proceed to eat his entire body. Kill myself and then blow up the house, killing the very last user of Windows ME.

Koreans are smart as well as cool. That's why people all around the

intentional though, just very busy.

I usually have a check in the morning, before leaving for work, but there
is very little time to post, unfortunately. My boss decided it would be a
good idea to take on more clients even though we're already overloaded with
work at the moment. Would help if he knew anything about the industry.
Haven't really had the urge to join in with any topics this time too. Talked
about the Yamanote line Hallowe'en party last year, then it was mainly about
Kimchi, Obama, Korea, and that guy from Panama with ADHD.

It's not unheard of for the child of a diplomat to also get into politics.
However, it's not really common either. I'm not a diplomat, though my
father was. And his father also wasn't a diplomat. It's quite unusual for
someone to become a diplomat if their family isn't involved in politics in
some way, though.

Really. I thought Mara Yamauchi' stay in Kenya had
something to do with her father's job, diplomat.
In japan It's not uncommon to become diplomats from generation to generation.
Different from politician, diplomat's children have to take
the examination in order to succeed their father's job. But there has to
be some inflation of scores for them.

Princess masako (not crown prince, my mistake,,,,) was diplomat. Her father
was vice minister in foreign ministry. Her father had become vice minister
before her daghter's marriage. But it is suspectable that
relation ship with japanese imperial family affected his post.
Masako was rumored to become princess all the way.

In japan, diplomat is prestigeous job without noblesse oblige.
They live in mansion and are isolated from common life.
In japan, speaking foreign languages is prestige.
In your country speaking decent English must be prestige. lol

I heard Aso's grandfather yoshida shigeru (diplomat and PM) was
proud of his Queen English and dispised American English.
He is said to deplore Aso(grandson)'s American English. He was a connoisseur of
wine too. Who cares about Jap who thinks himself British gentleman?

Just an irony. I'm not korean by the way.
I heard Japanese diplomats before Yoshida generation were more proud and noble.

The current economic growth in the UK is already a negative, and we
expect the next quarter to be in negative growth too, so we're already
in a recession. People are cutting back from expensive printed advertising
and spending loads on TV and radio costs, so the Internet is a much cheaper
way of advertising their products and services. This is why most web design
firms are doing fine despite the cutbacks on spending.

I think Brown and Sarkozy are right in recommending a 'Breton Woods II'. At
least that way, other nations would be able to analyse the ongoing economy
as an international whole, rather than being kept in the dark. And at least
one country wouldn't be regulating the majority of the world's finances alone.
Personally, I'm quite surprised that Aso said the yen should stay linked to
the dollar.

About half of politicians here had a 'prestigious' education, with people such as
Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children and Schools, who went to Oxford then
Harvard, and Miliband, also educated at Oxford. Brown, however, had a pretty
normal upbringing, educated in state-run schools and educated at Edinburgh
University. Blair was from a middle-class family too. I guess it's expected
from the Labour Party. The Conservatives almost all went to public schools.

As for language, it's rare to find people here who use English properly. I'd
expect the locals to at least be able to. Walking through town yesterday, I
heard around fifteen different languages being used.

What do you think of Russian Politics now?
The news says that the opposition parties were disbanded yesterday.
As I'm sure you know well, the Russian stock market
has been dropping in value, especially after the attack against
Georgia. And I hear if the oil price go down under 70 dollar per barrel,
Russia is in red, and now it's under 60 (it's expected to go farther down).
Considering this, I guess Putin (and Medvedev)
excluded his political rivals by power/force, so that the administration
party has the complete power to control the nation.
Personally, I don't think we can rule out the possibilities that
Russia will go to extremes. What do you think of that?

Sarkozy just did rush, based on the self-centered idea.
That's why main Asian countries didn't take his side.

As you said, China can threaten America, but at the same time,
America can threaten China as well. For the record, America will
reduce Chinese imports in the light of trade deficits, and Obama
tried to put puressure on China by saying China profits by the dollar-peg
system. In this respect, both have a conflicting point, but
concerning key currency, they still agree.

About Euro, it's so obvious that the falling Euro's value in the market
put Sarkozy under pressure so much he might have felt he should do something
to stop Euro's influence from falling/disappear. But that was not acceptable
to Asian countries (and of course, America).

China has nuclear ballestic missile system pointed at America as well as Japan.

Japan's balls(kitama) is in the hands of the US. So Japan can't move
just merely on the econnomic interests.
Ex-Prime Minister Hashimoto's challenging and impudent attitudes made america angry
and hashimoto soon wimpped out and became silent. Japan's threat is supposed to
be taken as bluff immediately and Japan will be reprimanded while China's threat is supposed to
be taken seriously and the Us will show her readiness to negotiate.

Economic negotiation won't work properly without sufficient military backup.
Japan abandoned most of the Azadegan oil field interests in Iran by the pressure from
America. China has been reported to be negotiating with Iran to take the place of Japan.
