However, in the Edo period, those too far to participate built miniature replicas of Mt. Fuji in several places throughout Japan, using actual rocks from the mountain.
The fujizuka (Fuji mound) at A Jinja/Shrine is one of those replicas.
You can climb the miniature Mt. Fuji on June 30th as well as July 1st.
I've attached a website with some pictures. The text is all in Japanese, but I think the pictures alone will give you a feel for the atmosphere.
