I think that it is the same thing as well as we have a hard job to look up a English word from a word which we just listened to.

Japan is a safe country, but there are still dangerous people. People on the Internet may pretend to be Japanese to get close to you. There are a lot of viruses and spyware out there, too. The second one doesn't make sense. You can say, "How should I do ____?" (like: How should I do the laundry, by hand or in the machine? How should I walk the dog, with the leash or no? etc.) But if it's just "do", then you need "what". What should I do to get you to be my girlfriend?

>>267 OK, my tentative rough translation of >>202 goes as follows:
Compressed air: 1. Provide (a) automatic or manual drain venting device(s) as appropriate. 2. Consider the necessity of use of an accumulator. 3. Removal of the branched pipe shall be performed above the piping system to avoid entry of drainage fluid. The flow gradient shall be within a range of 1/300 to 1/200. The piping shall be of a material and design compatible with caustic flushing. 4. Appropriately color-code the air supply lines in the piping system to prevent confusion between those for general operating air and those for oil-free air for drying the instrumentation.
Just wondering if the 1st sentence in Item 3 sounds OK. Another thing I'm not so happy with is the last phrase in Item 4, i.e., "those (= lines) for oil-free air for drying the instrumentation." The wording seems to me to be too round-about and awkward. Wanting to have it more succinct, I've been trying different permutations without much of a success. Suggestions?
>>147 I'm not going to just sit around while you cheat on me. It's not that I don't like you, but I'm not going out with a woman who sleeps with other guys. I don't really want to go with you anymore. I'll give my ticket to your friend or something. Why don't you go have fun with your new man? I don't see us going back to friends, so just tell me what you want to do with the tickets. I'll bring them when I come by to give the key to your apartment back.

Is drain venting device some kind of technical term? Otherwise, how about just something like: Provide automatic or manual means of drainage, as appropriate. Determine necessity of an accumulator.
For the last one, how about... Color code air supply piping to distinguish between general operating air and oil-free dehumidifier (for instrumentation).
Assuming that you've got all the technical terms correctly translated, the rest looks fine to me.
>>310 ありがとうございます!今自分なりに英訳してたんですけど かなり違ってました・・・・・ ところで、あまりhate は使いたくないのですが I'd just want not to be mistaken about (something like) this. とかだったら おかしいですか?
Yes, "drain venting device" is unfortunately part of our in-house glossary. I don't think it sounds great, but I don't have any authority whatsoever to change it. The same applies to "drainage fluid."
> Determine necessity of an accumulator.
Hum, looks better-formed and more straightforward than my version. I'm glad I included the entire text. I'll go with your version. Thanks.
> Color code air supply piping to distinguish between general operating air and oil-free dehumidifier (for instrumentation).
Cool. Yeah, my version contains some redundant bits. BTW, the "air supply piping"thing has already been installed in the works. Does it make any difference? I mean, should I put a "the" in front of "air supply piping"?
>>308 But you really are more than kind to me, and I'm very happy.
>>312 Just to make sure you know, this usage of "hate" (I'd [I would] hate to...) in this sentence just means something like 〜したら申し訳ない Anyway, if you want to avoid "hate", you can say: I just (really) don't want to be mistaken about (something like) this. / I just want to make sure I'm not mistaken about this.
>>316 No problem. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I dropped the "the" to mimic the style of concise technical/lab instructions, where articles are often left out for the sake of space or because they're unnecessary, etc. Pop it back in, really doesn't make a difference.

>>155 Having a license or not really doesn't make much of a difference. Having it certainly doesn't hurt, but there's no downside to not having one. What really matters is what kind of people are using it; in the end, a license is little more than just another prop.

Here's some examples:
A: Tomorrow's your birthday! I'm going to bake you a cake *and* buy you flowers! B: Whoa, whoa, don't go crazy or anything. Just a card is enough.
C: You're seriously in love with Joe? You know he has a girlfriend already, don't you? D: Whatever, it's not like I'm going to tell him or anything. He'll never even know.

For example, if I were giving a tour of my school to a bunch of old people, and they'd been joking around with me and I felt like they liked me, I might say, "Okay, where do you guys want to go next?" I mean, sometimes writing emails can be annoying. No matter who you're writing to. Some of my old penpals just stopped writing to me. And I stopped writing to a couple. w Don't worry about it too much.
>>857 Well, no problem at all. To be honest, I don't know much about how to do it. Seems like I'm not a kind of girl who can be turned on by masturbating. I've just slept with...(to be exact, that's far from having sex, though) ...two men and whatever they did, my body didn't react to it sexually. Maybe they weren't good technique-wise, maybe I wasn't prepared... I'm not sure. I tried fingering it out of curiusity quite some time when I was a high school students and later on, but turned out to be in vain and I gave up. But I have one technique that turns me on. It's like, what can I say, very immature way of masturbating but that sure makes me feel good, so I don't care if that looks good or not as long as it's my business. That's called TIM or something like that.
>>895 Yeah, we don't say that. It's always "a Japanese man/guy/person/etc." Just "a Japanese/Chinese/whatever" sounds pretty racist. I'm not sure why, but that's the way it is...
>>880 >彼は男としか付き合えない。 He can go out only with guys >彼も男と付き合う事だけは出来ない。 He. too. can go out with anybody but a guy. >彼は男としか付き合えない訳じゃない。 He can go out with girls too. >彼も男とだけ付き合ってもいられない。 これはイマイチ意味がわからない
>>936 I cuss a lot, but I'm actually very particular about my English. I'm something of a grammar nazi, although I loosen up when I'm writing casually (like not using "whom" when I should, etc.) I like writing. I mean like, writing fiction. So "proper" English (grammar, spelling) is very important to me. I *despise* it when people write shit like "c u l8r". My sister uses "u" in her emails to me and it pisses me off. I mean I use abbreviations, too (like atm, brb, wtf, etc.) but those are different from "c u l8r", at least in my mind.
Yeah, "sucks donkey balls" is something of a joke slang expression that young people use. It's just 強調. Originally it's "that sucks balls." That's the base expression. You can add in an animal to make it funny.
>>933 I can relate to that. The same thing happened when I had to paint a picture for a painting contest at middle school. My sister is really good at painting, so I had her paint a picture for me and the picture won the contest successfully. My art teacher was suspicious about me painting the picture and I was questioned. I was really ashamed.
>>940 Hehe, it's cool, no worries. Honestly, I can't answer that question. This country's fucking huge, everyone's different. The kids at my school are totally different from the kids at a school a couple miles away, you know what I mean? All I can tell you is my friends, and the people I hang out with and see most often at my school, cuss like I do. It's just not a big deal, they're just words we use like anything else. I've always cussed a lot, ever since middle school, and my friends have always done it, too. Just the way I am and the kind of people I hang out with, I guess. I'd say we're probably the minority. I would never say most kids talk like we do. But a *lot* do.
>>938 なるほど。 c u l8r と brb etc.
I wonder there'll be a day when native English speakers won't be able to distinguish my posts and native's posts. Maybe not. I'll hit the sack now. This thread's getting close to an end. Don't forget to make a new thread before this thread is over. This is not a suggestion but an order. Got it? Just wanted to act like a big brother. See you in the next thread you all. ZZZZZZZzzzz.
>>961 Na. It basically means very, really, super. Like: I had a hella good time last night. This cake is hella good. I'm hella going to that concert, it's gonna be awesome.
>>968 Oh yeah sure, sorry, that's where it came from (probably hell of a lot, like >>966 said). I just meant you can't substitute in "hell of (a lot)" for it anymore, they're not the same.
