When you come right down to it, this is the one and only thread that's for conversation in English now. See others. They are mostly in Japanese, and even though there are several threads in English, they are not working any more. See what I mean?
>>60 >>61 It used to happen a lot, but is less common these days.
America is friends with Canada. I think that when there is teasing, it is usually like playfully teasing a friend. Some people are still jerks, though.
The younger generations of Americans don't know enough about French history to tease the French about it. That's why it doesn't happen as much.
Hello, magibon! I doubt you remember me since I was anonymous when I talked with you in the previous thread, but I believe you'll remeber... Anyway, I saw your new vlog. You're as cute as ever! And I know the background music, it's Judy and Mary!! I used to listen to the song, big time!!
By the way, why did you delete the mini blog?? I know there was a person who posted a comment about the last part of your statements, but you didn't have to worry about it that much (I know you are shy, though), but have more confidence in yourself (about your Japanese)! Your Japanese is far better than my English!!!
Anyway, the point is, "GO GO MAGIBON!!" And thank you for a long vlog (even not due to my request) !! :D I love the style!
>>68 Then, I will continue to explain things this way. ^_^ >>72 I'm bad at it! Actually... I don't have any sheet music! I'll try to do it someday. ^_~ >>73 Yes, I remember you. I didn't delete that video, but I hid it. It's back for now, but when I feel embarassed I always do that. I will try to have more confidence! But, it's a joke to say that my Japanese is better than your English. Your English is terrific. ^_^' So, you did like the style of the last video? Actually, it was kind of like combining a vlog with a Nothingness video, wasn't it? Except, I didn't wear different clothes and stuff. Judy and Mary's really great, huh?! ^_^
I don't know who you are at all. As 70 said, are you really a cute girl? Well , I also don't know whether it is what you feel embarassed or not to describe yourself as "cute" by yourself. Because I also don't know about the mentality of American girls at all.
>>84 Sorry. I'm an American girl who loves Japan and is trying to learn Japanese. I come to 2ch to chat and to learn Japanese and ask questions about Japanese culture. I'm not particularly cute. I'm just normal. You can see for yourself here:
No problem. No one'll laugh at your Japanese. On the contrary,Some foreigners who are appearing on Japanese TV,for example, are pretend to be poor at Japanese while they are actually fluent in Japanese. Because they know it's beneficial for them to act like that.
>>83 It wasn't a joke. I mean it. Well, to be more serious, I think somehow I can write English well enough to get my points across, but as I said before, I have trouble in listening to English (do you remember? I said I wanted English dramas English-subbed).
Yeah, the style is a blend of them! But you actually speak in the vlog both in English and Japanese! It makes difference to me.
>>84 Not that I mean most of the American people are aggressive, but some of them are actually so, I think. But at least Magibon is different. She is even shier than Japanese people. And She has never said she's cute herself. Well, we have, though. lol
>>97 Right! You write better than many Americans, though! When I watch TV now, I can see how subtitles would be useful. Because, those people really do talk fast or use a dialect or slang a lot. If it's TV, is it possible to enable closed captioning? The same that's for deaf people?
Right now, many people are saying "Speak English!" while other people are saying "Speak more Japanese!" Also, some people tell me to make the videos much longer but some people said the last one was too long. I don't really know how to please everyone. -_-' So, please keep helping me with suggestions! There's not much I can do, but I definitely want to make more videos! ^_^ Thanks! ^_^
They say "so many men, so many minds " or "there are as many opinions as there are people". You can't please everyone. Do what you want to do! that't it.
>>98 Thanks. I know English speakers make it a rule to use basic English when having a chat with non-native speakers, though. But I'm honored.
> use a dialect or slang a lot In fact, Japanese subtitles appears in Japanese TV news, when people speak a dialect. :) And in variety shows they use Japanese subtitiles just to let audience know what a host or a commedian says is a laughing point.
Next, about vlogs. Here is my opinion.. Some people say "Speak English" because they don't understand Japanese, and some say "Speak more Japanese" because they don't understand (spoken) English, and I say I want your vlogs long because I want to see them..
So I guess, if you use Japanese subtitles when you speak English, and use English ones when you speak Japanese, then both sides will be pleased.
And about the length of your vlogs, you had a good plan! Remember? Mini vlogs!! I think it's a really nice idea. (Personally, I prefer long vlogs, but you must be embarassed to hear some people say "too long", so...)
>>99 Thanks. ^_^ My problem is that it's so hard for me to do things in a video. I even have a lot of difficulty talking to the camera. I think it's getting better, though... Well, I hope it is!
Don't go changing, to try and please me You never let me down before Don't imagine you're too familiar And I don't see you anymore I wouldn't leave you in times of trouble We never could have come this far I took the good times, I'll take the bad times I'll take you just the way you are
>>108 You know the song? Geez, you really know what's going on in Japan.lol Do you like tarako? I have a mental picture that American people don't eat fish eggs, though.
>>110 Yes, I know of Kigurumi (is that right?) Cuuuuuuuuuuuute! That song really gets stuck in my head though!
Rich people eat caviar. That's fish eggs, right? We don't have tarako sauce or anything like that here (at least in my town). Most people I know would say it looks gross.
English people might say cut the cheese to imply fart, but I must say Yukorin would never cut the cheese, she's always cut the peach!!! Her fart is not smelly, but aromatic. Peach can imply aromatic fart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>115 Poor guy.. You still take what's written in a tabloid magazine seriouly. Just poor. You must be the kind of person who believes whatever is written in your lovely magazine. Do you like natto?
>>112 Haha, yeah, tarako sauce might be gross for those who's not tasted it. I don't know who's the first one to make tarako spaghetti, but it's good. (Not to scare you with it)
The typical American will have no problems eating a rare double qtr. pounder (ain't fully cooked unless it's in the incubator for 5mins) prepared in a rat-infested McD's by a highschool dropout making minimum wage, yet they'll wince at the thought of eating fresh raw fish.
>>116 I've never had caviar myself. The commercial is cute for sure. But, why do I think of zombies? >>118 I really like spaghetti, so might be willing to try it tarako style someday. >>119 That's right. Actually, though, Japanese is food is SO much more accepted in America these days than it was just a few years ago. And, I'm always hearing celebrities talking about it on TV.
I'm a native speaker of Japanese but it's a tough question.lol How can I explain to you about it? because I'm not an expert on linguistics. First, as you said, postpositional particles such as は,がare used for the subject. On the other hand, the ones such as をor にare used for the object.
I know it's about time to answered your question. But please give me some time to think it over in order to come up with appropriate translation. Here I'd like to present you with one example but it may not be a natural translation. CはAがBに本をやるようにさせた。
TOKYO ― The average number of "freeters" ― young people living on temporary jobs ― dropped by 140,000 in 2006 from the previous year to 1.87 million in Japan, marking the first fall below 2 million since the compilation of data under the same conditions started in 2002, the government said Friday.
>>142 in my opinion, involuntary acquisition is the worst virtue. of course Japanese civilized korean but it was forcible. forcible reorganization brings hatred and malice. i think korean argument about history is based on such hatred and malice. if you are wise Japanese, please think carefully abount their passion.
>>144 That's dumb. If westerners hadn't gone to asia and forced their ideas on others, they'd still be in their little stick huts. Besides, if the West hadn't tried forcing their beliefs on the Japanese, you'd never have closed off from the rest of the world and begun a period of rapid modernisation. Involuntary acquisition may be disliked, but sometimes it's the only way for mankind to move forward. Otherwise, people are content living in miserable situations. And if people are challenged by the outside world, they are forced to develop ideas and a sense of identity. If the rest of the world disappear, all of Japan would become one giant archipelago of NEETs!
>>143 But I think their hatred and malice against Japan are so persistent that they'll never forgive us. How many times do you know Japanese government has been announcing offical apologies to them until now ? We've had enough of it! I hate Koreans because they hate us. Historically, they've been looking down on Japan and Japanese people because Japan cocsists of small islands. So that they can't endure the historical fact that they were invaded by us.
>>146 If Koreans and Chinese, and any country where life is pretty bad, if they didn't complain about foreigners, or blame other countries for their problems, the people would realise how crap their lives are, and blame the government. The Governments of these countries continue to blame other countries because it's a policy that has worked so well before, and kept them in office.
its hard way to find out fartologist. anyway tnx. i'll call at scatologist instead of fartologist. he is black belted scatologist. he dives into shit pool. i respect him.
>>146 But the fact remains that while most Japanese today are aware of what their ancestors did in the World War 2 their society has never engaged in the type of introspection common in Germany after the Holocaust.
>>151 I've talked to people in Germany, and they are sick of having how evil and wrong they were in WW2 driven into them at school. I live in Australia, and all throughout school we hear about how evil white Europeans were to the Aboriginals when they got here. Both countries have white pride and neo-nzai movements in them. They're really small, fringe movements, but it's obvious that forcing guilt upon people works.
People get sick of apologising, but people also never get sick of hearing how sorry and wrong others were to them. Korea needs to forgive Japan and get on with it, for it's own good. It'll never rival Japan's economy if it sits around wating for money (because that's the kind of apology it wants) from Japan.
>>That's dumb. If westerners hadn't gone to asia and forced their ideas on others, they'd still be in their little stick huts.
I disagree with this, asians were not in stick huts when westerners came to them. The west owe some of the best things in their lives to Asia, math for instance was greatly helped by Asia. Without this math, the computer age would not be.
To say further, all cultures in this world benefitted from other cultures. They adopted from others, and made it a part of theirs. Westerners and asian alike benefitted from each other.
Takako is a young woman in her early 20s who, until recently, had spent the last few years of her life inside her bedroom, refusing to see anyone except her parents who brought her food and drink.
Shaka is a young man in his early 20s who, until recently, had spent the last few years of his life inside his bedroom, refusing to see anyone except his parents who brought his food and drink.
I know a word "Pizza Box" which is name of game's stage. That stage is too difficult to clear. but Probably I guess it's slang words which is spoken by many American. Have you ever heard that word? And Do you know a meaning of them?
>>181 I'm gonna calculate how many times a day you did it from now. If you are 20 years old and at least you did it 0ne hundred thousand times, it comes to about 13 times a day. Of course from when you're born. What a tough guy !

you seem to be crazy about Magi. If you want to write a love letter to her,I'll teach you a lot of phrases. How about this one ? The mere thought of you makes me painful in my chest! lol
>>197 My family doesn't attend church. Does yours go regularly? >>198 Actually, "makes me painful in my chest" isn't completely correct, though you would be understood. I think, "makes my chest hurt," or, "pains my chest," might be better.
>>156 Don't try to generalize Westerners and Asians, but refer to specific countries. The Germans created and invented some great things, but the Australian did nothing much.
>205 Big mistake on my part, sorry. I meant to say Austria, but spelled wrong, and what's more, >>203 was not even referring to Austria but Australia. Sorry for the confusion.
>>206 As long as you are all happy, I think it's good. ^_^ You know, I think many great scientists believed in some kind of god. I'm not pushing it either way, but I don't think it has to be a choice like that. As I said, I don't submit myself completely to a particular religion, but I think it's nice to have some spirituality. ^_^
Again dispute starts ? You don't have to do it here. It's widely known that the NangKing and the comfort women were simple propaganda spread by chinks, gooks and their japanese agent Asahi shinbun.
>>203 Come to think of it though, Australia produced great musicians like INXS, BeeGees(they are originally from Australia, if my memory serves right), Olivia Newton John (sort of musician), etc.
Pls translate this in japanese 1.how can one advise another how to act unless one knows that other as well as one knows oneself?
2.the important thing is knwing how to deal with and recovery from it. We cannot acquire the ability and wisdom to make a succesful recovery and become strong enough to face the world again , without the experience of failure.
>>223 It's hardly fair of them to make you translate phrases that aren't even grammatically correct. I guess the same could be said for the Japanese and Latin phrases I have to translate in my Japanese and Latin classes. Why I took both of them, I have no idea.
Thank you, people, for having a chat with me on stickam. I thought I should post this message somewhere else, but as I don't know a lot about the board..So I think it's better be here. I hope I can get more fluent and quiker to respond in English.
If you guys are here to talk, I hope we have a chat again!
>>232 Ah, yes. This was the first time I used stickam, though. I was a bit overwhelmed. I couldn't respond smoothly, because of my lack of fluency. But the ones I had a chat with were nice.
>>233 Stickam is a fun place, except if you go in a cute girls chat room, a bunch of really old men are usually in there with their penises hanging out on webcams. Not very pleasant =P
>>235 Oh, I didn't realize that there was a stickam.jp, that's very interesting =P are there any cute girls on it? I do use Stickam(.com), but I only turn on my webcam/mic when I'm positive that there aren't any gay guys around =P
The .com version of Stickam made the news in a few large cities in the US because there were underaged girls on it (or rather, underaged girls, and overaged men trying to get them naked). So naturally a ton of men flocked to the website to see the girls that the news had told them were on there. Gay guys came too, because they also said underaged boys were on there. It's a bit of a mess.
Most of the girls on the .com version of stickam (It's got thousands of times the traffic of the .jp version) are camwhores anyway, so it's not as if they were tricked (A camwhore is an attention whore basically but with a webcam) but that is basically what Stickam is, it's MySpace but with Webcams (Is there a .jp version of myspace? I don't even know)
>>240 Someone on Stickam mentioned myspace, but I'm not sure what it is. As far as i remember, she said it was a bit scary, though. I must learn about My Space.
>>241 Basically HighSchool and College aged people from the United States and Canada go to MySpace and create their own page with their name and their hobbies etc, then they tell their friends, who have also made their own pages, and each page links to everyone that you know's page.
>>242 You have such a way with words that even I can understand perfectly well! Yeah, I got the point. In Japan, we have social networking service agencies.
Hello, Magibon. It was really nice chatting with you. :) I was worried if I bored you with my slow response, though...
Anyway, that made me sure how hard to talk in English, which made me aware how much effort you put into creating your vlogs with you speaking Japanese. Your Japanese is good. I can't help but respect it.
>>252 Good afternoon Maggy. Has spring already come out there ? I heard it is much warmer than usual. Here it is still cold and the strong wind is blowing. I am freezing. Uhhhh!!!
>>262 Wrong anchor, sorry. I was referring to >>259. As a matter of fact, I know about K-tan, of course. She is Swedish, has a boy friend in Germany, studying computer science, etc.etc.
>>265 Her divorce husband threatend her in saying, "I will get the custody of the baby, because if the court examine your hair, they will easily find out the traits that you have been on drugs." Then she freaked out, rushed to the beauty salon and shaved her head, and she also committed suicide for being so depressed that she might lose custody of the baby. ........according to Dave Specter.
Dave Specter? That guy is still around? I trust him about as far as I can throw him... Can't you guys get a better American television personality? You current one sucks :P
>>269 His silly jokes are becoming sillier and sillier every day.
I wonder why we need a foreign commentator in the first place to comment on Japanese politics and social issues. Dave Specter, especially, only makes comments as if he was a Japanese, but seldom brings in any views from different angles as a foreigner, which we expect of foreign commentators.
>>271 Thanks you! Someday I want to be able to write and speak English like you. So I always learn English in this thread. But I can't get nice score of TOEIC...
>>275 Hello, I'm japanese, too. It seems you've been a bit scared of chatting in here, just because of the TOEIC score you recieved... But to me, your English is good. Don't worry.
This might be too much to say, but personally, TOEIC has little to do with writing. In other words, one has to hone the skill just by actually writing. And in this point, we have much in common! I can't put correctly into words what I have in mind, and I'm slow in thinking in English... Well, let's be friends and go for it, dude!
>>282 281 is mistaken, Dude is an informal name that young American men call each other (Hopefully by the end of college they will have stopped) Your usage of the word Dude was perfectly correct, though I doubt you will actually find the word "Dude" in a dictionary; It's more of a slang term that is widely accepted, but not formally proper.
>>285 "Hello, how are you doing today?" "Hi, how are you today?" "Hey! What's up?"
It really depends on how old the person on the other end of the phone is, compared to you, and if it's a friend, a boss from work or an elder (Father,Grandfather,Grandmother etc). If it is a friend that speaks English, then "Hey! What's up?" would probably be the best. For an Elder, "Hello, How are you doing today?" would probably be best.
>>279 As you say, I was afraid of writing English to join in the chatting because My TOEIC score has been terrible... But I could get my confidence!! If I used wrong English, please teach me.
>>293 Thank you so much. Becuse of my poor English,he misunderstood what I really wanted to ask him. At that time We were talking about "dude",so I wanted to know another ones.
>>293 Yeah, I see that now, my entire post about proper telephone greetings was completely useless.
>>294 If it's a friend, dude is fine, if it is an adult male, use "Sir" or "Mr." (with their last name coming after the . ) If it is an adult woman use "Ma'am" or "Miss". I wouldn't call a girl you are attempting to get as a girlfriend, "Dude" though.
>>298 No problem, if you, or anyone else, ever have any more problems with English, I'll be sure to help. That is, unless you try to ask a question in Japanese =D
>>300 I don't know. I've been coming to this thread since it was "Chat in English part 10" (Maybe not exactly 10, but around there) There is one where people ask questions in Japanese, and then native English speakers answer them, but I'm not that good at reading Japanese, so I can't really be of any use in that thread.
>>302 I've been thinking that the English of native speakers are a bit different from ours. So your English is useful for my study.I wish you would stay with us forever. lol
>>303 Lol. I'm currently studying Japanese so that when I get out of college I can go to Japan as an English teacher for a few years (before I have to get a real job in the US) I'll have to teach English, and the pay is not very high, but I've never been outside of the United States, so it will be like a vacation.
>>306 So you are studying Japan like this. Hmm, I must tell you one thing. Please don't laugh at Japanese English, even if you find it much too funny to hear J-people out. Well, this is a test. Please take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FH06SPHen4
>>310 "What chance did they have" basically means "What was the probability that they would succeed" in other words, if the white guy doesn't even speak proper English, the real Japanese people he was asking didn't really have any hope of not making a joke of themselves.
Though I could ask Americans to speak Japanese, and all I would get is the words "Sushi" "Konnichiwa" and "Kamikaze". I guess everyone in that video is skilled by comparison.
>>306 So you're coming to Japan. As you seem to be a cherful and amiable person, probably it's just my worry. But be careful not to get culture shock, because people often say Japan is by far different from the U.S. in many ways. it might not be like a vacation. I'd like to present you with the following phrase. That is "honesty is the best policy wherever you go " Good luck to you !
>>313 I won't be coming till I graduate from a 4 year University in 2008, so hopefully by then I will be able to read Japanese a little bit better. And I doubt there is anything in Japan that will scare me, unless I accidentally hit a button on a toilet, and water comes shooting out of it. I'm ready for the worst, and I'm expecting nothing less than Hard Gay himself meeting me at the airport, ready to dance and thrust at me.
But I'll never graduate if I'm still awake at 5:37am like I am now. So I had better go to sleep.
It is very intersting. And the movie gave me a long time of thought about the contadiction of Japan's jurisdictional system. And Plus Miyu Yagyu is very pretty!
>>328 lol, maybe. Or, it's probably because he tried to spell it phonetically. You shouldn't always try to spell an english word the way it sounds. Or, at least, you need to know the noises certain particles make.
>>332 I'm a coward so I can't do such a thing>< I'm always masturbating at my home^^ I'm ashamed to say that I've never sexed with any girl. (Of course I'm not an Ahhh!!! person.)
>>342 Here in the US, people often don't use correct grammar at all. Hell, some people can barely spell. Anyone who corrects another is instantly labeled a "Grammar Nazi."
Then again, compared to other languages, English is hard as FUCK!
Because English is so complex, it's possible to express oneself with almost infinite exactness, which isn't true of many languages. For the same reason, though, it's more difficult to learn than most languages. That's why I feel lucky that I learned it naturally as my first language. Please keep at it. ^_~
>>344 Actually, "hard as fuck" is a colloquial phrase for "incredibly difficult." You might hear it tossed around amongst people in various informal social settings. Be warned, don't use it with your superiors or grandparents!
>>343 I see what you mean. When I mistakenly used a double nagative sentence, which I think isn't accepted as correct grammar at tests, I was still able to get myself across. I was kind of releaved then.:)
>>345 You sure are lucky.^^ I've recently started to think what is toughest for us Japanese to learn English is that we must get used to English sounds and pronunciations a lot. English has various sounds, while Japanese doesn't. What's more, English speakers put words together like "I'mgladImeetyouhereagain" when speaking. They speak very fast!
Well, I have difficulty making out English.. Sad. (--
>>346-347 Thanx for the explanation. I thought that phrase could be interpreted as; hard as fuck=equally hard as fuck=since fuck is easy, 'hard as fuck' is 'as easy as fuck' But now I understand.
>>349 It can be interperated as "Easy" just the same as it can be interperated as "Hard". It all depends on the context. For instance, if I was doing elementary school math, I might say "This is easy as fuck!" but doing the Pre-Calculus that I am doing now in college, I'd say "This is hard as fuck!"
Don't even attempt to learn American slang, it is truly infinite and there really is no index of it all. You'll be crying, especially if you attempt to learn American internet slang. Even I have trouble with it sometimes; there is a new phrase on the internet every two seconds.
Where is the moment we needed the most You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost They tell me your blue skies fade to grey They tell me your passion's gone away And I don't need no carryin' on
You stand in the line just to hit a new low You're faking a smile with the coffee to go You tell me your life's been way off line You're falling to pieces everytime And I don't need no carryin' on
>>354 I'd say that Japanese is one of the harder languages to learn. Atleast, it depends on who is trying to learn. For an English/French/German/Spanish speaker, Japanese is really hard because the alphabet is completely different. Learning to speak Japanese is simple, but learning to read it.. I'll be having trouble for years. =D
>>348 I read that Japanese is spoken faster than English. And, French is faster than Japanese. Being a native English speaker and having studied the other two a little and heard them a lot, I'd say that's probably accurate. English may sound fast to you because you're making an effort to keep up. But, Japanese runs together the same way you described for English.^^ Of course, it also depends on the dialect and individual speaker! ^^ French, with it's consonant chaining, is another story... o.O
>>357 You got me there!^^ Yeah, exactly, Japanese pronunciations also change according to movements of tongue. I was too busy thinking about English pronunciations to remember that. I didn't know Japanese is spoken faster than English. Thank you, Magi.
And about French.. I have not learned the language myself. Well, I hope I don't give you the chill to suddenly say things like this... But to tell the truth, I do know you speak French.^^ I just happened to enter the chatroom when you were about to speak it. Sorry if I offended you...
>>356 I guess you mean it's different between Japan and English how to pronounce or read alphabet? Yeah, I heard of it, too. As an example, "Abe"(a Japanese surname) is pronounced like Ah-bay in Japanese.
>>359 That is one of the problems with learning to read Japanese, but the alphabet being characters and not roman lettering (ABCDEFG etc etc) makes it difficult for people that are used to reading only roman lettering.
>>360 I'm sorry I don't understand the differences between characters and roman lettering.. Does English words use characters and Japanese ones do roman lettering?
>>358 The information I read gave average words per minute for those languages. I think it's not the best way to measure phsyical language speed, because the length of the average word in a language can vary too, right? But, it does indicate how quickly a language moves from thought to thought, which would probably most affect how easy it is to "keep up" when someone's talking. ^^
Oh, you came?? I apologize; it was difficult for me to talk to most of the people. I hope it's not like that every time. ^_~ I'm not at all fluent in French, but I know a little. ^^
Sorry, I haven't participated in this conversation untill now, but I think I'll add my two yen to the mix. ^^
If, as an American, I were to come across the word "Abe" in an English sentence, which isn't unlikely - it's actually a nickname for the Western surname Abraham, I'd pronounce it with a long A sound and no vowel sound at the end. In Romaji, it would be "eibo," but of course a native speaker would use the "o" sound at the end.
However, when Americans (I can't speak for British) try to pronounce a foreign language, they mimic their perception of the sounds of that language. If the American had never heard a Japanese person speak the word but knew it was Japanese, he would probable say Aybee, or "eibi" in Romaji.
If the American had to repeat the word after hearing a Japanese say it, it would probably come out Ahbay - "abei."
>If the American had to repeat the word after hearing a Japanese say it, >it would probably come out Ahbay - "abei." Yeah, that makes perfect sense. As for Japan, chinese people's name was pronounced differently from those that they pronounced. Chinese and Japan uses similar charactors but that doesn't go for prononciations. Recently, however, chinese names were pronounced as they are called in their language.
>>361 Roman lettering is somewhat hard to explain, but basically it's any language based on the latin alphabet. It's all explained on this website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_alphabet English, French, Spanish, German, etc etc etc.
In other words, if an English speaking person wanted to learn French or Spanish, it wouldn't be very hard because he can already recognize and pronounce the letters being used. But to learn to read Japanese we'd need to learn each and every character that makes up the alphabet. That is why it's a much harder language to learn, for alot of people.
>>375 She was making a joke. An American saying is "Give my two cents" and she changed cents to yen to be funny. It basically means "Let me tell you my opinion"
Haha, sorry I caused the confusion! Yes, because we're talking about Japanese, I changed "cents" to yen... I have a lame sense of humor. T_T
>>374 Of course, there's more to learning a language than its pronunciation. Additionally, just because many of the letters are the same definitely does not mean that the languages are pronounced the same. French isn't easier than Japanese for me!
Japanese grammar may be easier for English speakers, because it doesn't have a strict word order. Usually, we use the "SOV" structure: watashi ha sakana wo taberu. But SVO/OSV is also accepted: watashi ha taberu sakanawo/sakana wo watashi ha taberu. This is a good advantage to English speakers who are learning Japanese, I guess.
>>382 Yes, the word order of Japanese isn't so bad. It's the KANJI that gives the most difficulty! I remember... in high school French class, word order is probably what gave the students most trouble. It was awful! Did you know that, technically, English doesn't have a strict word order, either? It might be looser than Japanese, though we don't usually exercise the freedom.
>>374 Thanks for the info. By the way, I heard some Japanese say Spanish pronunciation was closer to Japanese than English was. I don't know how close.
>>385 It's true, and the same goes for Italian. ^^ >>386 Changing word order in English often sounds formal or old fashioned, but depending on how one does it, it's allowed. ^_^
He jumped over the wall. Over the wall he jumped. Over the wall jumped he.
That's just a quick example off the top of my head.
>>391 Noone would say the last 2 in Speech, or they would be laughed at by anyone listening. The only place you'd find phrases switched around like that is in old works of English literature.
Hello, English teachers! I have one question. In case of Japanese language, when I see written sentences by someone, I can judge his/her educational background to some extent. What about English ?
>>393 Mmm. I explained it in the original post. It's certainly not our normal way of speaking, but it was possibly of interest to >>382 / >>386. Since I probably didn't stress that enough, thanks for clarifying it.
>>395 As you said, to a certain extent it's definitely possible. Usually, that only counts for a formal paper or something like that. A quick note to my friend probably won't give an accurate indication of my writing skills, and I'd guess that the same is true for most people. ^^
>>395 I can usually tell how well a native English speaker is educated by judging the quality of their writing, but judging a non-native speaker is alot more difficult. Being able to write as much as you did in your post, I can assume that you are well educated when compared to the average Japanese person (as far as English goes). Someone posted a link to a youtube video the other day, and on the video, Japanese people were asked to tell a story in Japanese and then translate it to English. Most of the people asked couldn't form one sentence in English, much less an entire story.
>>397 Thank you for answering my question. Your comments are so thought-provoking that I'd like to know more details about "the quality of their writing". But I don't want to trouble you much,so let it go in one ear and out of the other. Well, needless to say,I'm able to express myself by consulting English dictionary so many times you can never imagine. lol
>>407 Basically as I read the words printed on the page, it is as if they are being spoken outloud in my mind. In other words, if I see the phrase "The weather is really nice today." it is of high quality, because when it is spoken, it's proper and I understand it. If the sentence were to be more along the lines of "weather good today yes?" I would consider that of lower quality. I can understand the meaning of the phrase, but it's just not the same as a proper sentence.
There is a difference between a sentence that is grammatically correct and one that I could actually imagine someone saying outloud in a normal conversation. That is my theory on language, but I'm sure most teachers would disagree =D
>>264 More of being busy and mostly lurking when I actually do visit this thread. Sorry about that?
>>335 Firefox? In what way? Just that webbrowser or do you have difficulties with accessing this thread at all? You might want to get the bbs2chreader extension in the latter case. http://merkin2ch.livejournal.com/
>>416 I'm not sure, I've seen it be used as an insulting alias for youtube, but I've also seen smaller sites use it as a name for their type of videos. O_o;;
>>424 Sex? Nope. Yours? Nope. Hug? Nope. You can however come to Sweden. Though depending on your intestests this may not be one of the best places to visit.
Hi all again. I would like to have some ideas from you guys. Recently there's a TV travel program in Hong Kong introducing the snowy Japan, and we have a mixed (Japanese X Chinese) girl as the host - Wada Hiromi. She is a singer, and repeatedly claiming being under 20 in the TV program. Here's one of her MV for a cartoon theme song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnEn0_tWAEc And her blog with album. http://hk.myblog.yahoo.com/iam-hiromi/gallery She got 0 point in her HKCEE (i.e. Failed in all the subject including Chinese and English). I'm not sure about her Japanese proficiency tho.
OK, here is the question. If she comes to Japan, would she become a famous artist? I doubt she can make a big bang in Hong Kong, and that's why I raise such question, and look for you guys' opinion.
>>427 I'm not sure whether she can get as famous as Agnes Chan, who is also from Hong Kong - Agnes was very popular in 1970s (or 80s, I'm not sure). Even now I sometimes see her on TV, mostly on variety shows).
But one thing is for sure. It's that chinese songs (by this, I mean, songs in chinese, not by chinese people) don't have a big market in Japan. As you may know, "eyes on me" was selling well in Japan, a) because it's in English, and b) because it's a theme song of FF8. Of course, Fay Wong is a good singer, but I'm sure the song wouldn't have been a big success with her singing in Chinese.
So my conclusion is that Wada Hiromi might be successful if she sung in Japanese or in English and if her songs were featured somewhere (in this age, we use the Internet!).
I think Magi is cute.(*^_^*)。It's easy to say if she'd become successful. I think there are many factors involved but she is destined to become successful.
>>443 No, thanks. You might want to pick up exercise-yoga or something else to make you very limber, then you wouldn't need to get others to do it for you.
I think it's rare for women to say such kind of jokes in public. Especially I've never heard them from Japanese wowen. I like a person like you with a frank disposition.
Now I listening to the interview of George Harrison and Eric Clapton, Is that spelled so? I think it's very nice to understand directly what they talk, but then, y'know, sounds, just two British guys actually.
I haven't been here for a while. Do you still remember me?XD
Hey! I want to contact you in person! I give u my msn address....is it possible for you to chat with me? ...it must be early in the morning your time now..when is the best time for you? Let me know.
(Sorry this messeage is person to person...but..pls don't blame me, Otaku boys....)*shrug*
>>466 Yep, I do still remember you. You're a bit hard to forget. Email your messenger info to potassium.tantalum.nitrogen at: gmail.com
If you have yahoo instant messenger (YIM) or AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) that would be a bit more convenient for me, but I can do MSN as well so no need to do either of those two if you don't want to.
>>478 The funniest part about this comment is I don't go to 4chan, and even I know that's pedobear.
>>479 Right, we should stop him "disfiguring" this thread. Let's go back to talking about breast sizes, if any of the regulars are really female, and about their breast sizes. Or let's just fill these pages with stupid "hello!"s. Get real. There is no social or academic merit in these threads.
Pedo Bear Another ASCII art creature. This one, predictably, looks like a bear and is often sighted with lolis. Spawned the Pedo Bear Seal of Approval shopped from old Nintendo games. Originally "Kuma" from 2ch, who is not a pedophile at all, is a nature lover, and supposedly hates Ronald McDonald.
A few users started an in-joke whereby one would post Osakaphone saying something, and the other would post Kuma with a response. As the posts began getting more and more sexually oriented, paired with the innocence and widely-held immaturity of Osaka, led some to dub Kuma as being "pedo" for her. Now Pedobear is placed after pictures of underage girls.
Actually, there is academic merit to these threads. Typing in a foreign language, even without correction of your mistakes, builds confidence, which is a very important part of language acquisition.
Not to mention that reading all of this English can't hurt. Especially if foreigners take into account the fact that the English here must be treated as suspect.
News reports that comedian-lawyer Maruyama is palnning to go for the govenor of Tokyo. What do you think about this news? by the way, he can speak English. He is a lawyer. You are neets. I am a lolicon. That has big difference between you and us.lol
>>487 Attorney Yuasa also speaks very good English, which proves what he boasts of has some truth in it.
About Maruyama running for the govenor election, I think it's good news. At least, I think, Maruyama is much better than Ishihara, who has been exploiting his power for his own benefit, and I also think Maruyama is better than Asano because Asano originally didn't have any will or passion to become the govenor again.
I feel empty. She looked happy when he was around, which was torture. It brought home to me that she loved him, even though he has a girl friend. I'm not sure if she knows that. I've fallen into pieces.
>>492, you need to learn the skill of letting go. If she's obsessed with another, put her out of your mind and look for someone else. Or you can kidnap her and brainwash her into loving you. Either way works.
>>495 I've just found the following in WiKi: Kidnapping, a word derived from kid = 'child' and nap (nab) = 'snatch', recorded since 1673, was originally used as a term for the practice of stealing children for use as servants or laborers in the American colonies.
How do you do? everyone Im junipr high school student of japan. Im studying English in my school everyday:) I will leave to my school soon.. in March 14 :( so I sad.. I dont hope to leave my friends and teachers
hmm I like here 'cause i can learn English as my hobby :) so i stay here since now
>>516 You have shallow chicks. A proper watch is a masterpiece and should be awed because of its complexity and the skill that went into creating it, not because of its current price on the market. I pity you for putting up with shallow golddiggers, serves them right to get their hopes crushed when they discover they have been sleeping with someone not rich.
It's part of lyric of Eminem's rap. so, "me" in the sentence is Marshall Mathers III (spelling?)
As for what fills in ( ), I have vague memory, so I asked you guys. :p
You weren't nigleted nor abused by your mother, I hope. :) You were just joking, right? And I am not who I am either. All I know is the fact that I'm posting here. :p
Robert met a professor of logic in a bar and had a conversation. “What the hell is the logic?” Robert asked. “OK, I’ll show you. Do you have a lawn mower?” “Yes.” “If you have a lawn mower, you must have a yard.” “Yes.” “If you have a yard, you must have a house.” “Yes.” “If you have a house, you must have a family.” “Yes! I have a wife and two kids.” “Then, you are not gay.” “Year, I’m straight!” “This is logic. Got it?” Robert was so impressed that he decided to teach his friends logic.
Next Day “Hey, I’ll teach you logic! Do you have a lawn mower?” “No.” “Then you a gay!”
>>534 That is not logic, that is a large amount of assumptions which may very well be completely false. For instance, there are single people who own houses, and there are many gay men who are married and have children.
That joke is unintentionally stupid, which makes the punchline not funny! that man is only a little more stupid than the professor of logic.
They want you to be Jesus They'll go down on one knee But they'll want their money back If you're alive at thirty-three And you're turning tricks With your crucifix You're a star
Of course you're not shy You don't have to deny love Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me
Climb my ribcage to The replays run for you Unhook my lights to peek behind the flash For I am crystal chrome I am shatter dome I am kremlin king of angels avenged To destroy the end
Is it bright where you are Have the people changed Does it make you happy you're so strange And in your darkest hour, I hold secrets flame You can watch the world devoured in it's pain
>>543 Are you all right? I guess you must have been told off by your teacher . Because my translation was not so good. lol in such case "I went out without even fixing my hair" is much better.
Anyone else having trouble getting to the main 2ch.net page? I keep getting this error message. I don't know what it says, but the page seems broken and screwed up.
"One, hey, hey!" "When you sleep with an only child you need her parents' permission" "Two, hey, hey!" "When you sleep with two sisters you must lay the elder one first" "Three, hey, hey!" "When you sleep with an ugly girl you must cover her face with a rag" "Four, hey, hey!" "When you get laid upstairs you must be careful not to make noise"
Philippines were governed by 3 foreign nations, Spain, USA and Japan. Of these nations, Filipinos hate the most Japan, because Japan brought only destructions to Philippines, whereas Spain and USA brought not only destructions but some benefits. After Japan "liberated" Philippines from USA, they committed many crimes insulting Filipinos. First, Japan destroyed many Filipino catholic churches, which had historic values, and which were Filipino mental grounds. And they forced Filipinos into converting from Catholic to Shinto including worship to Tenno. Such religious attacks mean insult worse than being killed to devout Catholic Filipinos. And physical attacks were also committed for example political executions, sexual violence and forced labor....
I can't ask anywhere else, but is there some trick to posting on 2ch with Javascript enabled? Whenever I enable it, it gives me a popup message with an error (With Japanese writing) the only words I can make out are "Email" and my ISP info (IP addy etc). It works fine if I turn Javascript off. What gives? And what functionality am I missing when Javascript is off? (Hoping an English speaker could help me =/)
It's complaining about the proxy settings of your browser, which doesnt make any sense to me. Try using IE instead of Firefox (as heathen as that sounds).
Anyway, amongst other things, it is saying that there is access problems due to your proxy settings. Again, try using internet explorer and see if you get the same problem.
I've been hurt many times, but I'll keep going, suppressing that burning, bitter nausea
"From today forward, I'll live my life differently." I'll leave this place. If I think through the countless things on my mind I'll probably feel better But that's just my hope
Day after day my head in blue I get irritable because gloom has captured my heart Day after day Even though I realize that some things are impossible, sighs still weigh heavily on my heart
No matter how many years pass, I'm still lost My last-minute answers are all stupid I want to really speak my mind, not something forced No more excuses
Day after day my head in blue I'm not without fears, but I have my dreams for the future Day after day No matter how hard I think about the things that come my way, I know that it always turns out the same
Turned off firewall and Javascript enabled in IE, but I get the same error message. Are you sure it thinks I have a proxy? It's not really a huge deal, since I can post with Javascript off, it's just that some functionality seems to be lost without Javascript.
This question is for all of the guys out there(especially Americans). When you meet some girl in a chat room and exchange emails, will you expect her to be more than just a friend all the time or you sometimes just look for a chat budy. Can this 'men and women being friends in a chat room' possible or you guys always want something sexual out of it?
>>580 I have a good sixth sense, so at that time I knew who you are immediately. I guess you 're the same person who's been a regular poster of this thread since around part 10. You 've taught me a lot about English,so I'm a bit glad that I was able to help you.
>>614 Your sixth sense is off. I'm the guy studying Japanese in hopes of teaching English in Japan, and I'm not >>580 XD but good job in helping him lol.
>>613 At some point a guy is going to get attached and ask for photos and then it will probably go further. I've got very few female friends (that I don't know from school etc) that I talk to, and the reason is that it's a bit weird. The natural instinct of any straight guy is to attempt to date a girl, whether she is talking to him over the internet or meeting him in real life. I'm sure there are alot of guys that are solely focused on getting girls to give him their pics though, so be carefull
>>613 I decided my last post was a bit too gloomy. I should have added that I'm sure there are also guys out there that just want to talk. I won't lie to you and say that it would be easy to find a guy like that Personally I'll talk to anyone on the internet, and I almost never bring up gender.
>>615,617 Thanks for your reply. Yeah, one of the guys I gave my email address is constantely asking me if I want his picture. I will never be stubid enought to send anyone I met on the internet my real picture, so I dont understand why so many guys want to give out their pictures. Well, it is not like we are doing anything illegal or morally wrong, we are just chatting and exchanging emails, so there is nothing to beashamed of, but still it is a little bit creepy to show anyone on the internet how I look like.
>>618 Guys give out their picture (I'd say most of the time it's a picture of someone else that they claim is them) so that it's harder for the girl to refuse to send hers in return. Anyone who wants to send you a picture is probably up to no good.
>>620 Lol, sometimes I consider using a tripcode, but then I remember that noone really uses them. I'm not even sure if the Japanese word for what I am talking about is "Tripcode" but hopefully you know what I mean. Anonymity is usefull, but for someone like me that is living in another country, I don't really gain anything from it (since noone would know who I was anyway, even if I gave out my real name and the city I live in) Is it acceptable to use a tripcode? On the English BBS's (like 4chan) it is allowed but almost noone does it (and those that do get trolled) but I'm not so sure about how acceptable it is on 2ch.
Are there any anime fans here? There are 3? Maybe 4 versions of the Densha Otoko manga, and I can't figure out which one is the good one. Can anyone help? (hopefully Densha Otoko isn't a taboo topic around this place these days)
>>627 It's an American kids show. A scary skeleton man with a scary high pitched voice is the host of the show, and he introduces various short horror stories. It was a pretty good show back in the day. If you want something similar >>626 look for "Are you afraid of the dark" on youtube. It is an old (1990's) show similar to Tales from the Crypt. Spooky stuff.
I like the version by WATANABE Wataru most. So cute! Well, that's if you like cuteness. If not, go with the HARA Hidenori version. The art style looks like it was drawn by a Frenchman in the 1970s.
There will never be any apology or compensation for nothing validated. Japan has lots of better things to do than dealing with you begger nation's daydreams. HaHaHa.
another machine translation: "It is not possible to finish supporting it. " I got the idea what it means but I want some kind of grammar commentary on it
>>643 It's legal for Americans to buy a gun (Non-Automatic) if they are over the age of 18. To carry a gun, you need a concealed (hidden) weapons permit, which also requires you to be 18 years old (21 in some states).
But no, not all Americans have guns. I'd say maybe 30% of households have a firearm.
if you throw a dice and get one . It's nothing. if you throw a dice again and get one. It's something. If you throw a dice third time and get one in a row. It's third time lucky. if you throw a dice fourth time and get one. It's amazing. If you throw a dice fifth time and get one. It's a miracle. If you agree to this, you're proved to be fucking stupid. Because if you get any number in each of the four tries, the probability is the same.
>>663 >>664 The comma after archaeologists is an unnecessary break. You don't really need it in this sentence. BC comes after the number, and is also pronouned after the number. Most currency and dates are said after the number.
"It is thought by archaeologists that stonehenge was built between 2500BC and 2000BC."
Also, in shorthand you don't need to say and, just a hyphen. In other words: "It is thought by archaeologists that stonehenge was built between 2000-2500BC."
Which is basically said: "It is thought by archaeologists that Stonehenge was built between 2000 and 2500 BC"
The 2000 comes before 2500, because remember that you are counting down in BC, and then up in AD.
>>667 Your remarks reminded me of the phrase "Grammar Nazi" or something, which a native speaker taught it to us in this thread. I dare to say that I don't agree with you because I think that basically you shoud put older date into the former blank.
You give me zero interst in my question about the Yama-taikoku. You are seeking where Korin Planet is located more than Yama-taikoku because you are stalkers of Yukorin. Keep doing the Masuturbation with Yukorin!!!!
>>670 Grammar Nazi? You're "native speaker" is just some slackjawed dumbass. I thought you wanted the correct way to say that sentence; or maybe you like sounding stupid.
I was the one that taught you all to say "Grammar Nazi" Basically it's someone that thinks they are superior, so they correct the grammar and spelling of other people.
Some of the people above are Grammar Nazi's, which is good since you guys (and girls?) needed help with your homework. I find it funny that one guy tried to help and immediatly a grammar Nazi corrected him.
>>714 Well, I'm not sure why. I just found a video on YouTube in which a girl is dancing, singing, and eating vegimite- buttered bread. And in response to the video, an American is shouting like a mad-cow Vegimite is banned in America.lol
>>722 Oh, roflmao. You aussies and your slang. In America we call a box of wine "A box of wine" XD Only the poorest of the poor drink wine from a box. You've got to be really desperate for alchohol =D
>>729 In US they call a box of wine 'Franzia'...lol and the poorest of the poor don't drink wine, they drink Colt 45, Milwalkee's best or Pabst Blue Ribbon. ..or even worse, Tecate.
>>734 but seriously, you should try Leasingham sometime. They ain't too shabby, I tell ya...not too expensive, either. I believe they have a website, too...check it out.
>>749 Do you pay a visit to other boards than this Or are you confined here? With your Japanese skills, you might not be considered to be a leaner of the langueage.
When I'm bored I usually go to image boards like 4chan and 7chan YouTube is only good for watching music videos and funny clips from movies or TV shows. All of the user created videos are garbage.
Normally I'd be hanging out with friends, but they all went to Florida for spring break. It's just me and the internet here for the rest of the week =/
>>754 Yeah, 4chan and 7chan are great fun. Especially /x/. Here's a good question though, which is better? If you pose the question on either of them you get flamed.
>>755 I read the manga of Death Note, it's so much better than the anime. Actually I major in Japanese.
>>758 /b/ basically has no rules (except for an anti-lolicon *roricon* rule) so it's pretty vulgar at all times (Pictures of dead bodies, bleeding half chopped off penises, etc) other than that, it's basically 2ch and 2chan combined (Image boards and text boards) with themes ranging from cars to weapons to all types of pornography (Except Lolicon)
>>756 4chan is better. 7chan was created more or less because there were alot of perverts that wanted Lolicon boards and 4chan wouldn't allow it. It grew from there though and now there are all sorts of non-porno boards at 7chan. 4chan was (last I checked) in the top 1000 sites in the United States (as ranked by Alexa) with hundreds of gigabytes of traffic a day.
>>760 It seems that as Anime grows in popularity in the US, so does 4chan The site isn't very old (3 years I think) and it's grown at an amazing rate. I'm still waiting to see how they will make a profit from the site They are supposed to start selling merchandise (T-Shirts, Buttons, etc) soon, but there is no exact date given.
O_o This talk about wine being expensive.. what? I thought you guys had it a lot cheaper. Well, naturally really high-class wine will always be expensive, but still...
>>769 Human eat pork, even though pigs are as intelligent as dogs. Some say even more clever. Why this matter, then? Human eat meat, and care not about animals, just stomach.
>>781 I know. That is unfortunate. I wish people would realise how cruel eating animal products is. But still, It DOES matter to me. I'm not one of those humans who only cares about his stomach.
>>778 Wrong. I don't mind if they ate dogs. It should be ok people everywhere in the world eat whatever they like. Those guys in the pics seem not to have killed the dogs to eat, but to intentionally expose their heads in public. The problem is they look they don't have an ethics code seen in a cultural society.
>>786 It's no worse than the Bull Fighting, Dog Fighting and Cock Fighting that still exists in most civilized nations of the world today. Millions of dogs, cats and other pets are killed yearly for no other reason than the fact that a proper home can't be found for them. Koreans aren't any less civilized than you or me.
It's simple. In cultivated society are people expected of behavior which won't discomfort the others as much as possible and dogs aren't popular for eating in the developed nations.
It's not so simple. they eat dogs, japanese eat whales, aussie eat kangaroos, chinese eat scorpions, thais eat roaches..........(^w^) There're a lotta varieties of dietary cultures. But killing an animal for nothing surely is THE WORST EVER. (`m')
>>791 When it's considered about "dog", most of all nation has not only eaten it but also treated them as partner from the ancient age. the cases you gave except for dog are so much different from the last one that korean has been accused of their custom.
>>785 That's a very weird mental connection you've got going, there.. O_o How did you get it? The stereotypes of vegans and the stereotypes of furries I've been exposed to sort of very much fail to overlap.
> Simply put, the actor-observer bias can be expressed as, > "If others do it, it's their fault; if I do it, it's not my > fault, it's because of the situation I'm in.
Odd, I don't think of such things that way. I hope I'm not supposed to.
Thank you for always presenting me with thougt-provoking phrases. >If others do it,it's their fault;if i do it, it's not my fault,it's >because of the situation I'm in. This time, this is excellent! to my mentor K-tan.
It was something weird. every single move we make could lead to one of generalizations. it seems more like philosophy than psychology. hardly understood. uhmmmmmmm, burp!
I have a question. What does "I hope you guys hear for me" mean? I mean, I know all of the words, but "hear for me" implies what? Help me out, please..
>>809 Eh, kid: Polygamy isn't about "fun", it's about trust, respect and communication. Please note that polygamy isn't the same as "orgy", which is what people tend to mistake polygamy/polyamorosity for. I probably know more about the subject of polygamy than what you do :-p
Could Mr.スーパー外人 or Ms.k-tan write the dialogue of the following video please ? I would be deeply grateful for your help in advance. Hehehehe.....Smooooch! ttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdlUC2akGLM
PART 1----- A: We are kind of meant to- we are kind of made to hate Japanese people. B: Yeah, Japanese people I don't think feel the same. A: They talk such- so terribly about them. B: I... I... I... A: Like all Japs are like... Japan, go to hell! B: Their country is going to sink to the bottom of the ocean. A: Yeah, Japan is going to sink to hell. B: It is. It's just for all the evil they've done... It's just, not even to us but to the Filipino islands and the Chinese people. C: But this is for your phone.
PART 2----- A: Japanese people are so barbaric, that when they came to Korea, they thought Koreans were so advanced. Why? Because Korean people have utensils to eat with. Chopsticks, whatever it was, a spoon. Japanese people were still eating with their hands. They didn't know. C: You were taught that. A: Japanese people are so sad, they are trying to deny their- their- their history. They don't want to admit their history. They don't want to admit their mistakes, they don't want to admit that- You know what? I was wrong at this. They want to erase history like it never happened (B: Well it did). That's koreans people's anger about them (C: And we still remember). Is that they did certain things to certain people.
PART 2----- C: You sound very angry. B: We are. A: I'm not angry because I'll say... I'll meet- I'll meet a Japanese person and be like; "Hey, what's up?". But at the same time yes. B: You can't rape a pillage my grandmother's generation and expect me to forget it. How the fuck am I going to forget if it's exactly the same stories every day? I'm going to remember about that about your generation. C: The Japanese killed every single member of my father's family. Except for him. He hid under the bamboo pipes in the Philippines. A: Those damn Japanese! C: They killed his whole family. A: What are you doing?! B: You can't forget that. C: His whole family. In front of him! B: You can't... You can't... C: He hid- He hid underneath the bamboo pipes. B: And then you're going to tell me that you children aren't learning about it because it's not in their text books? C: The Japanese... B: Please! I will hate that. I can't help but hate that. C: They came and they slaughtered his family.
>>850 Oh, really? I didn't think 'k-tan' was a common handle when I picked it. This is most unfortunate. I wonder how it would be best to distinguish between your k-tan and me. Perhaps I should start calling myself "swedish k-tan" to narrow it down a bit.
