Throughout the world there are more native speakers of Chinese than there are of English, but English is by far the world's most dominant second language. Today, 350 million people speak English as their mother tongue, but more than a billion speak it as a second language, at least a little. Most of them are in Asia. And as with Western music, fashion, food, and politics, people in Asia are changing the language. "Now it's not native speakers that are moving English forward," said Larry Smith, a professor of international English. "It's the non-native speakers, the people in Singapore, the people in Malaysia." Standard English is the common language of Singapore's population of 4 million, one of the four official languages that also include Malay, Mandarin Chinese and Tamil. Singlish combines parts of all of these. It is simple and clear. Get to the point. Got coffee or not? Got! "We are learning English so we can understand the world and the world can understand us," said a government leader of Singapore. "It is important to speak and write standard English. Standard English is also a common form of communication in a nation with many languages. If the less educated half of our people end up learning to speak only Singlish, they will suffer economically and socially." English is the language of the Internet, of movies and music, of airplanes and ships at sea. It is needed for international business. で 1,How many people speak English as a second language today? 2,What kind of people are moving English forward? 3,In what fields is English used?

Over the ages, we Japanese have eaten rice, vegetables, fish, and tsukemono. However, in the short period of the last twenty or thirty years, we have increased our intake of meat and fat. At the same time, our intake of fiber has decreased. It is no wonder that our bodies and emotions have not been able to adapt to the drastic change. No other country has forgotten its own traditional foods as much as Japan has. One day, I was eating lunch at the university where I teach. Some exchange students from South Korea gave me some kimuchi. It was so good that I asked where they had bought it. One of them replied, "We don't buy it. We make it ourselves." I was taken aback for a moment. And then I thought, "Wow, that's really something." The young Koreans don't feel safe eating Japanese kimuchi. Most Japanese kimuchi is not as fermented as real Korean kimuchi is. If fully fermented, kimuchi is flavorful and safe to eat. That's because the fermentation bacilli have destroyed the harmful bacilli. I am impressed that, even in a foreign country, the young Koreans want to eat their country's traditional foods. I wish young Japanese people valued their traditional foods as much as the young Koreans. で 1,What have we Japanese increased our intaske of ? 2,What did the Korean students give the writer ? 3,Why is kimuchi safe to eat when fully fermented ?

The concept that trained dogs could act as eyes for those who cnuld not see developed at the beginning of the twentieth century in Germany in an unusual school. The pupils were not humans, but dogs who were taught how to lead people who were blind. The idea caught on quickly, and guide dogs, or Seeing Eye dogs, began to be trained in many countries.
These patient and loyal animals lead their blind companions everywhere they go, permitting them to make their way in the world almost as well as sighted persons.
Not every kind of dog makes a good guide. Seeing Eye dogs must be alert at all times, so dogs that are easily distracted are not suitable. The best kinds of guide dogs are smart, easy to train, and usually get along well with people. During its training, the dog is taken to many kinds of busy places. This is to get it accustomed to anything that might happen. A dog is trained in large stores, noisy airports, and crowded restaurants. It rides on buses and in taxis. It is pushed and hit, and it learns to ignore anything that might cause its attention to wander.
The Seeing Eye dog is responsible for guiding its owner carefully past any objects in the way. On busy sidewalks, the dog must skillfully walk around other people to make sure its owner doesn't get pushed. A guide dog is trained to come to a stop just before it reaches some stairs ; this is the way it tells its owner to step up or down. But even though it learns to follow orders, a guide dog is also taught that sometimes it must disobey. For example, if its owner tells it to cross a street when a car is coming, it won't respond untill it is safe to cross. While it is being trained, a guide dog is never punished for making a mistake ; instead it is encouraged to do better by being rewarded when it behaves correctly.
When the training is complete, a guide dog is assigned to its new owner. The two of them need to be compatible because they will be together for a long time. The size, weight, and nature of both are taken into account. From the beginning, a strong bond needs to develop between the dog and the owner. Urually a guide dog stays with its its owner for about ten years before it retires. Then, it often may go to live with friends of the owner and stay with them as an ordinary family pet for the rest of its life.
You told me if I came here I should earn just enough money to keep body and soul together, but that I should lead a wonderful life. Poor I have been and poor I shall always be, but I've enjoyed my life.

In Greenbow, Alabama, forrest Gump was raised by his mother in his boyhood days. She raised him as a usual child without being upset about the fact that his IQ was lower than that of a normal child. He also had a curvature of the spine. In his elementary school days, his only friend was Jenny, who made room for him on the school bus the first time to go to his elementary school and who was a beautiful, kind girl. One day, when Forrest was bullied by his classmates, Jenny said to him, "Run! Forrest!" Her voice made him run with spirit and courage. Thanks to being fleet of foot, after several years, Forrest could enter an university as an American football player. At last, he was selected as one of all-American football players and was encouraged by President Kennedy. Sometimes Jenny felt he got in the way, but it's not known exactly why she couldn't hate him. One rainy night, she invited a soaking Forrest into her girls' dorm secretly, and she took him in gently on her naked breast. After Jenny dropped out of her university, Forrest went to see her in a nude show house (she worked there for a naked singer), but she broke away from him.
Five years later, Forrest went to the front of Vietnam War. He was submissive by nature, and so he was marched as his captain was told in the cruel situation. The aggravation of the war situation proceeded day by day and finally his infantry platoon got fusillade in the Jungle. He ran away form the jungle fast against a backdrop of the rattle of machine gun fire, but because he could run so fast, he lost his platoon. He went back to the jungle and helped his physically damaged companions get out of harm's way. Though he helped his close friend Bubba and respectable captain Dan, Bubba died in Forrest's warm arms. His captain Dan survived but lost both his feet, and therefore he blamed Forrest for helping him. At the day when Forrest received the Medal of Honor from U.S. President in Washington, a mass meeting for peace was held there. When he went to the mass meeting and he spoke about Vietnam War by some fortuity, suddenly Jenny rushed out of the huge crowd of spectators. Forrest ran up to her, and they fell into each other's arms. Forrest spoke his mind to Jenny, but she didn't accept his pure-hearted thought, and went away with her hippie friends.
During his hip injury treatment in a hospital, he picked up ping-pong and he improved his skill in ping-pong as quick as lightning, and at last he participated in world championship in China. Furthermore, Forrest was paired toghther with John Lennon in TV program. By this means, he became a very popular man. After that, to fulfill the promise he had made to Bubba, he started prawn-fishing. Forrest called over his captain, Dan, who lived a wild life, and they headed down to the sea. At the first, the result of the prawn-fishing was very bad, but all in good time they could become enjoy a bumper catch and finally they became so rich. As it is now, Dan was profoundly grateful for Forrest's help.
With his mther death as a start, he went back to home. Although one day Jenny appeared in front of him and she accepted his love for her, she left Forrest alone again the next morning of the night. Forrest spent his time with an empty feeling for a while. On a certain day, he broke into a slow run randomly, and he continued to run for about 3 years. Some where along the line, his action was deific; once again he became a hero of the time. After long running, he found a letter from Jenny in home and visited her house. In her house, there was a son of Forrest, and his son's name was also Forrest. Jenny knew she could not live long time because of her fatal disease. At that time, at last she knew what was her fate and got married to Forrest. In time, she departed from this life. Forrest raised his son and he sent his son off his school as Forrest's mother did at a time in the past.

He was stuck figuring out how he would make the design of our final product.
Figuring out how he would make the design of our final product, he was stuck. When(As) he figures out...

What have you learned from debate?
I have learned three points from debate. they are ;return on invetment , pronunciation and immersion.
My first point is return on investiment. I studied hard to read better so that I become to read quickly and cleary.
MY second point is pronunciation.I have lerned how to pronunciate "briefly","proficiency"and many words so that I can improve my skill of pronunciation.
My third point is immersion. When I practice debate,I can't speak Japanese,I must speak only English so that I immerst in English. Then, myskill made great progress.
Thus,I have cleary proven that I have learned many things from debate.

> I have learned three points from debate. GOOD. > they are ;return on invetment , pronunciation and immersion. >My first point is return on investiment. The first point is about "the return on investment." >I studied hard to read better so that I become to read quickly >and cleary. read better I studied hard so that I could read and understand quickly. >MY second point is pronunciation.I have lerned how to pronunciate >"briefly","proficiency"and many words so that I can improve >my skill of pronunciation.
The second point is about English pronunciation. This time, I realized how I should pronounce "briefly and proficiently." And I am sure these would lead me to make progress in my English pronunciation.
>My third point is immersion. >When I practice debate,I can't speak Japanese,I must speak >only English so that I immerst in English. >Then, myskill made great progress.

> I studied hard to read better so that I become to read quickly and cleary.
まず、I had to be a good reader. I studied hard. Now I can read books quicky and understand them well. I studied hard because I had to be a good reader.

The practice of debate in English was very beneficial and informative to me, because I actually grasped three points which would be helpful to further learn English. The first point is the fact that the harder I learn English, the better my English skills would be. Actually, I can say, I studied English hard so that I could read books in English quickly and understand them clearly. And after that, I realized the progress I made in terms of English reading skills. The second point is about pronunciation. Again I practiced English pronunciation hard in order to prepare for debate. The result was very good. My English pronunciation was much improved by the practice in terms of fluency. Finally, the third point is about devotion. I was not allowed to speak Japanese in debates, That made me focus only on English speaking, or rather I really concentrated to English. This also inspired me how to learn English. That is devotion to English study.
Anyhow, the practice of debate showed me how to learn English effectively, and this experience will surely be profitable for further study of English.

I have many books to read. I don't have them to decorate my book shelf.

The administration said the purchase was "a testament to how our approach to China is yielding real results." But in a joint appearance with Hu, Bush said China needs to do more to provide fair opportunities for American farmers and businesses seeking access to China's market.
He said China also needs to work harder to protect intellectual property rights. Piracy of U.S. movies, computer programs and other copyright material is rampant in China. Rice suggested that China is beginning to take the problem more seriously, and that Hu talked about specific steps to crack down on piracy.
Bush is pressing China for a faster revaluation of its currency, which U.S. companies contend is undervalued by as much as 40 percent. Undervaluation makes Chinese goods cheaper in the United States and American goods more expensive in China.

1 I don't like travelling in trains (which are) full of people. 2 He tried to climb a fence (which is) two meters high. a very good studentについては、studentを直接修飾する形容詞はgood一語、goodを直接 修飾する副詞がvery一語という構造なので、すべて前置修飾。 I don't like travelling in unbelievably full train. He tried to climb a two-meter-high fence. I don't like travelling in full-of-people train.

No other things are more important than it.
Some students play baseball in the park. Does any student play baseball in the park? No students play baseball in the park.
Do you have some money? Yes. I have some money.
>>791 「15分の歩き」が主語だから、現在形で表すなら動詞は take ではなく takes 未来形で表すなら will take A fifteen-minute walk takes you to the station. A fifteen-minute walk will take you to the station.
>>792 It takes fifteen minutes to walk to the station.
「すべてを知っているかのように話す(話した)」(同時) He speaks as if he knew everything. He spoke as if he knew everything. 「幽霊を見たかのように顔が蒼い(蒼かった)」(時間にズレあり) He looks pale as if he had seen a ghost. He looked pale as if he had seen a ghost.
Teachers feel duty-free to ensure that they meet those targets because those are the ones that we are judged on at the end of the day ※duty-bound toは〜する責任があって ensure thatは、確実に〜なるようになる を使って訳していただける神を探してます。
There is no other way.
There are many fish in the river. Only three fishes remain in the basket.

>>822 What happened to her? What's happened to her? しかし、What'sはWhat has (完了形を作るhave)でなければなりません。 What did happen to her?
Mary is a girl whose eyes are blue. Mary is the girl whose eyes are blue.
I'm taking it to New Orleans. + The bus leaves at 8:30a.m. it = the busと考えて結びつけます。 I'm taking the bus which leaves at 8:30a.m. to New Orleans. I'm taking the bus which leaves for New Orleans at 8:30a.m.

How many stops are there?という文は There are ○○ stops. There is a(one) station.
How many stops is A from here? How many stops are there from here to A?
My son Junior used to drop by almost every day. I tell him about my classmates and what the teacher said.
