I'm such a great fighter. Let me tell you how well I fight.
Once, while attending a party in the parking lot of an abandoned movie theater, I got into a fight with an entire gang of bikers called "The Cobras."
There were about twenty of them, each a mountain of a man with tough scars and tattoos, and they came at me all at once. Some were bare-handed, but others hade crude weapons like a broken beer bottles, baseball bats, and chains.
It didn't scare me one bit.
I used every ounce of strength, courage, and determination I had, and I beat the entire gang in less than five minutes! When the dust had settled, they were all unconscious and piled onto each other and I was unscratched.
Hey, guys, it's pretty lame for you guys to use derogatory words especially if you can't use English properly.
Just imagine a foreigner calling you "Kusottare" or whatever in really bad Japanese, and that's what you guys are doing. So if you want to use F-words or like, you need to learn the language better, or you guys will look pretty stupid.
But then again, only idiots would use such foul language...
>>48 To be honest, I lied about that. I've never been in a fight ever. In fact, I took a class in boxing once, and the sandbag gave me a busted lip and a black eye, and I hadn't even punched it yet.
>>49 haha. But I enjoyed your "story" all the same. Can I ask you a question? You are a native speaker of English, right? Your English is too natural to be a non-native speaker of English.
>>53 I noticed one. "hade" should be corrected to "hid", right? But I didn't notice any other than this. Anyway, your mistakes are nothing compared to our awkard English.
I myself once wanted to be a boxer, but when I realized that I might be hit instead of only hitting somebody, I quit. lol
>>60 Oh, you mean what I mean by "ordinary"? Sorry. I don't know... I meant to say I'm one of many people who post some comments or write some thoughts in here.
CHIVALRY is a flower no less indigenous to the soil of Japan than its emblem, the cherry blossom; nor is it a dried-up specimen of an antique virtue preserved in the herbarium of our history. It is still a living object of power and beauty among us; and if it assumes no tangible shape or form, it not the less scents the moral atmosphere, and makes us aware that we are still under its potent spell. The conditions of society which brought it forth and nourished it have long disappeared; but as those far-off stars which once were and are not, still continue to shed their rays upon us, so the light of chivalry, which was a child of feudalism, still illuminates our moral path, surviving its mother institution. It is a pleasure to me to reflect upon this subject in the language of Burke, who uttered the well-known touching eulogy over the neglected bier of its European prototype.
I think that if I could live as a gorilla in a zoo -one of those modern zoos with the large enclosures, mind you- I think I could be happy. Of course, I would miss television, driving my car, and indoor plumbing. Not to mention being able to eat meat. Plus, if I were in zoo, I would have to deal with a bunch of idiots staring at me all day....
You know, nevermind I said anything about being a gorilla. I think I'll just go rent some movies and pick up a meatball sandwich on the way back home.
>>103 take it easy. this is a chat thread. anyway a little more effort will make us better speakers of english. what do you want to talk about? girls or movies? studing english or life itself?
>>104 My field of interest ranges from literature, music, films and so forth. As you can see I love artistic culture very much indeed. What about you if I may ask?
>>105 i love literature, though i haven't read much lately. and i love music and movies. mozart is my favorite composer and billy wilder is my favorite director.
>>106 Mozart is a marvelous composer. His requiem never fails to touch my heart. J. S. Bach is my favourite composer. In fact I was listening his Matthew's Passion just a while ago. Though I do not pay much attention to the words being sung, I feel spiritual purification there. I am a bit tired today.
>>107 oh, i love back, too. most of what i hear, however, is piano tunes. matthew's passion... i haven't heard it. of course that's not because i don't like religious music, but because music like that is somewhat long. i don't take enough time to listen deeply to that kind of music. but i want to listen to it someday.
>>108 Johannes-Passion is a grave piece of religious music as well. The aria part of Alto penetrates my heart singing:
Von den Stricken meiner Sunden Mich zu entbinden, Wird mein Heil gebunden; Mich von allen Lasterbeulen Vollig zu heilen, Last er sich verwunden.
[In English] To free me from the bond of my sin my Saviour is bound. He gives his body to be wounded to heal the infection of my wickedness. ────────── Although I am not a Christian, this passage strikes me with an austere sense of Christian-like selfless love.
>>109 i'm not a christian, either. but i respect jesus. i think he was a revolutionary. he revolutionized jewish religion, the social structure at that time and the way of thinking about how human being could passionately rel;ate to the poor and the sick.
and bach expressed these essences, especially the last one so nobly in his music. that makes us get out of, however temporay it maybe, usual selves and feel the love of jesus i think that's an amazing thing.
>>110 I am glad to find a classical music lover who has similar insights with me. Excuse me but I got a little tired and I must retire for the night. I hope I can see you again soon, though I don't even know your name... Anyway, it was a pleasure to speak with you. Good night.
Oi, oi! Sorry I haven't been checking in very often, but I have to work a lot before school starts next month. Can't believe I'm already a sophomore! Still don't have a major. I'm already planning to go back to Ireland and France next summer; I had so much fun in Europe. Need to save up more money--it's so expensive over there... But, HOLY CRAP, Disneyland Paris has WAY better rides than over here in Florida! Space Mountain is absolutely killer. Have any of you ever seen http://www.engrish.com? That's funny stuff, man. Oh, I was wondering, for those of you who live in Japan: Do they have (American) football video games over there? Because one of the new commercials for one of those games features my school and I thought it was pretty cool. FSU!!! And, btw, I'm really sick of reading about this Yukorin character. Get over it, dude. Anyway, I'm going to sleep. A bientot!
>>137 Dwaine is this american english teacher who would come here and complain about how he could not get a date. he would also try to use this board to attract women. Then he made up several names to use but it was always easy to tell that it was him. now it seems that he doesn't come here. or maybe he just acts annoymous like everyone else now.
the saying "fuck off Dwaine" became a kind of greeting here
In Japan you might experience several earthquakes a year. Once in a while you will encounter a really big one. We Japanese expect the next big one almost as devastating as the famous the Great Kanto Earthquake to occur within the next thirty years.
>>181 But you could think of it as a rare opportunity very few in the world can experience. At least it can be a more exciting experiene than just sitting in the movie theater watching some spectacle movie. Try it!
>>183 Don't be scared. You will be accustomed to them if you have lived in Japan for a couple of years. And you can avoid the big one if you live outside of Kanto area. Still if it comes, you will be able to feel it.
Because I have litte vocabularies. In addition, I cannot converse in English. I am good at English grammer of high school course, but I don't understand spoken English. I wonder if 193 and this contribute have lots errors. Correct them if any, please.
>>198-199 i don't know if i should be offended at the use of "chousen" vs "kankoku". don't act like i can't read that.
if you're born in America, there are issues that arise pertaining to what you describe your "nationality" as. maybe to you, an "American" is someone who is white. but in fact, those peoples' ancestors came over from Europe or other countries.. because of this, many Asians born in America describe themselves as Chinese-American, Japanese-American, etc.. this helps them retain both their heritage and their identity as Americans.
with that in mind, i'm both American and Korean, if that makes any sense to you.
you're so pathetic. not only can you write in english but you also can't argue logically. this fact, naturally, indicates that you are just a crappy useless being.
sigh...I must find a good job on the internet by next month. I will be 30 years old next month. 30aged-job hunter is regaded as a lazy man by Ordinary company's personnnel exsecutive. someoe help me.. Do you know a good site?
heyyyy~ has anyone evver wanted to kill their parents? haha well i get that feeling alot. This is a convo between me and my mom jen, please do something before i rudely interrupt your internet service" "mom, leave me alone before i rudely interrupt you from living"
i dont really want to kill her, she just pisses me off so much that i cant help but threaten her. Shes giving me so much crap this summer that i just cant take it anymore. We fought 3 times yesterday, first about clothing.... and why she refuses to take me clothes shopping... second time was about how she goes and cries to anyone after we get in a fight and how i get in trouble, third time was over group therapy. Today is just ending up like yesterday too. I need to get out of this house. I miss so many people from school.... i think we all need to like hang out someday.... before school starts.
Why are Japanese so afraid of using English? Most would be able to keep a normal conversation, especially if the person they were talking to used a bit simpler English than usually.
I have studied English for 6 years, and some say it has gotten as good as a native American's. The success all lies in my constant usage of the English language.
Don't flatter yourself that you are more of an expert than you really are. You don't even know how many mistakes you have made in the relatively short writing. All I can say is that you should learn the language even harder instead of being such a big mouth.
I am a kind of new here, so I don't know the original (ie posting on 2ch)... That's the only way to tell if it's real or not, i think. But TV show is making it look like otaku's wet dream.
>>250 approximately yes. i hear they made some corrections to the book, such as correcting typos or leaving off AAs. some "translations" from 2ch words into normal japanese ones may be done, too.
>>256 that'll do. but if you want to read a lot of text more comfortably, i just recommend some cheap palm or ppc. by the way, is your mp3 player able to display non alphabetical letters?
>>258 i'm not sure.. i know it can display japanese characters.
>>259 sorry, i wasn't clear enough! i meant such things like the situation with the "train man". in America, i don't think he would've been asked to give his address to send him a gift or anything..
>>260 i think japanese people are more trusting than americans. in other words, we are more naive about believing in other people's good will. that in turn makes it obligatory for us to return the good will. oh, it's so hard to explain...
>>261 I don't know about that. I've lived in both the States and Canada, and I felt they are more trusting than... but then again, it's my highly subjective opinion.
I would say it's just cultural difference. They just don't have a custom to give a gift for "お礼" as =X pointed out.
>>262 i haven't lived outside of japan. so you may be right. i just think such customs have some reasons in the mind of people. anyway, i have to go now, too. see you all soon.
That my written English is almost like a native English speaker's, was something an American online friend told me, I'm not just praising myself like you are asserting in your post.
I do know myself that my English is not flawless, and YES, I do practice all the time. Now, if you could be so nice to point out those errors that I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND AT ALL in my post, I would be very happy.
>>266 I won't deny your english is good. But I would've written it like this: "Most would be able to keep up a normal conversation, especially if the person they were talking to used simpler English than usual." Just constructive criticism..
>>268 Well, that certainly is a good point, must've been what >>230 referred to. Thanks. I just get annoyed by many 2ch'ers destructive attitude. They are only looking for others' flaws, unable to see their own problems. Many are otaku and hikkimori, it is fun to think about people like them lecturing others.
Perhaps I might have overreacted to your remark. But I cannot possibly tolerate anyone fancying himself as a master of English despite his limited skills, because I have dedicated myself to the language for years and years with no remarkable success. Anyway, you see below your mistakes and dubious expressions.
1 'Japanese' → the Japanese 2 Verbs like keep up, hold, have etc. collocate with the noun 'conversation.' 3 A native American usually refers to an American Indian, therefore it should be either a true-born American or an English-speaking person. 4 than usually → than usual 5 so nice to → so nice as to Do't take it amiss. Keep up a good study.
Well, I'm impressed by both of you, haha. You know your stuff pretty well. I knew 229 wasn't talking about an American Indian because usually in the term "Native American", both words are capitalized..
Anyway, language is an ever changing thing, and I don't like to think the way I speak is governed by some set of "rules". We can argue about grammar forever, but what's important is putting your feelings into words!
>>271 You've had no remarkable success? Why is that? I'm really impressed by your language capabilities! It is not hard to understand that you have worked lot to use English like you are doing today.
Thanks a lot for correcting me. I will remember what you told me, and hopefully be able to improve even further. One can learn much from critic.
are you guys students or something? i know that in Japan, students learn English through middle and high school... what did you think of English class in school?
>>277 i'm not a student. so i don't know in detail how it is now. generally speaking, japanese teachers of english teach it with more emphasis on grammar and reading comprehension. so students know very well about english grammar and can read english quite well. but they can't speak or write it so well. these situations are gradually changing now and someday the day may come when students speak english comfortably.
Although it seems that you have said about the blood, where did the origin came from ! Ofcourse the earth! The earth which has bore and raised all things is our hometown! Blood of the ZABI will be only one-many thousands of hundred billion th in it! If you fight for such a thing ,do only in AKUSHIZU! The earth is polluted and our colony is old and rotten! The whole human beings must redo now! We have to knock the human being adhering to the small things like you! Oterwise we-living in the earth area will not be able to see tomorrow! A party who was bound by the blood is obstructive! Man's possibility .... We can't stand it being destructed for your self-satisfication!
>>278 i see. i suppose that makes sense seeing how people can write and read pretty well here.. i wonder if they'll be able to put more emphasis on speaking in the future.. but then again, this is why there are so many eikaiwa businesses. (which might be not that great)
can asian men go out with white girls in the US? In general, asian men are not so populre over there, aren't they? (No offense. I'm myself japanese man, im asking this only because i plan to go to the US in the near future, so im wondering how it is going over there.)
All we Japanese have to do is polishing our bed technique. It isn't important whether it's long or black. I heard that more rubbing dick makes yours harder and black.
>>284 well, that's the thing. you're right that they aren't real english teachers, they're just native speakers. the companies such as NOVA hire native speakers whether they are good teachers or not.. these workers usually quit after a short while, and the company simply hires more people. it's not the fault of the people for being bad teachers, its the companies who aren't worried about getting quality teachers.. they're only worried about money.
>>292 Oh, I think you don't know how bogus Americans can be. They come to Japan to get easy money because "teaching English" to "sorry little Japs" in eikaiwa schools brings them a lot of money. And worse still, some (or many) of the gaijin men's hidden intention is to hunt airheaded Japanese gals. Japanese women are known to be easy lays.
>>293 as an American, i think i know. what you say is true, there are people who go to teach English for the wrong reasons, be it money, girls, whatever.. it's sad that few are really interested in helping people and teaching English for the fun of it.
Oh, sorry for prying. Teru is a legend of this English board. Some nasty users drove him away constantly picking on him. I think they were jealous of him.
This is odd. Some people hate if someone else doesn't post anonymously. They might regard onymous posters as irritating exhibitionists. I don't really like this anonymous mentality of the Japanese.
>>303 Do you have a so-called disposable e-mail address? I want to, and I'm sure many of us, would like to know it if it's OK with you. So we can contact each other without thinking about jet lag.
>>304 i suppose i can do that. i made an address just now: chat_in_english_help(at)yahoo.co.jp i used yahoo japan so you can type in japanese too. please don't abuse it.. (^^;;)
I'll think of some mailbox-warming messages to you. But I am tired staying up too late. I think I should go to bed now. It was nice talking to you. Good night. (^^;;)
>>308 Dwaine is dead. He was murdered in Roppongi about 3 weeks ago. The police are investigating the case, but no solid leads have emerged. There was a small article about it in one of the English-language newspapers.
>>303 I can understand that many of 2ch's users are considering usage of names and tripcodes as something bad, because Hiroyuki created these discussion boards so that people could be able to discuss anonymously. There is no need for names, you can just be yourself and focus on the discussion or conversation. If someone is posting with a name, there will always be someone out there wanting to ruin those users' reputation.
Just out of curiosity... are there any native english speakers here? and if so, do any of you use the phrase "know the sweet and sours of life?" personally i've NEVER heard that expression here but apparently there are some ppl who think that's a commonly used phrase.
>don't bring in anything OUT from OTHER thread??? What does that mean? I don't understand your question. My question was directed to ppl who speak native english, thank you very much.
>>329 I don't remember that I gave anybody any question. Are you expecting any English native speaker is watching this thread? Hallo? Are you O.K? Why don't you just beat it.
>>330 Whoa there, calm down with your exclamation marks. But I still don't understand what you are trying to say... what is "sauld" ? and i'm "A" moron? is that what you're trying to say? ラララ♪
>>337 To me it sounds like food, chinese food to be exact. Not a phrase to describe life.
>>338 >Let's go back to normal. Do you mean talking about I woke up and brushed my teeth and ate breakfast and went to work and ate lunch and came home and took a bath and and and... one time, at band camp... =p
This is closer to "normal" conversation than just entering what you did for the day....
>>340 is right, we should conversate like this rather than bumping in suddenly with reports from one's daily life, that kind of content would suit better in the English monologue thread. This is a lot more fun, don't you think?
Do you mean look IT UP in a dictionary? I sure did but 通常{つうじょう}の、標準{ひょうじゅん}の、標準的{ひょうじゅんてき}な、平均的{へいきんてき}な、一般並みの、普通{ふつう}の、 is that what you want? Just average, mundane, boring conversation? I think banter is much more stimulating to your brain....
Now I see what you guys mean. Sorry, my misunderstanding. I wanted some other rather than just insulting each other like 326 - 334. I totaly agree with you guys. Let's have some more constructive chat. BUT NOT LIKE 339!!!
resistance is futile. you suck and your life suck.you're nothing. yes NOTHING. read it by words. bitter taste of words slowly coming to your head. FLASH. you're worthless. nobody loves you. if you kill yourself nobody will ever care. it's because I AM superior to YOU.
>>350 My cute Chinese girlfriend loves me, your attempt to troll has failed! (Except that I reply to your post, which means you have succeeded in getting response. Geez, trolls are hard to deal with, because you are supposed to do absolutely nothing at all.)
>>356 i write english as often as i can. if i don't come up with a right word for what i want to say, i use one that i think is similar to its meaning. but i guess if someone correncts my english, it would be much more beneficial for me to improve my english.
Today,I really want to call a delihealgirl to heal my soul. But I hasitated to do so because I spent much money last month.I should avoid spending on such activity.
I took the Toeic test last week and am going to have it on 25th of september. My listening skill is not quite high and always get hard time improving it. But lately I feel I am improving it slightly. So my last score of Listening section on Toeic is 440.And my highest score of Reading section is 440.But they didn't happen at the same time.
I didn't know what the hell it was either, but after doing some searching, it appears to be one of those contracted terms that the Japanese language seems to like so much.
deliheal - (trans: delivery health) - prostitution; call girl business
Hey hey ,I just wrote I didn't depend on such activity. I am really a diligent and serious person.most things at this presence I need are people correspond with me and something heal my soul. mentioned on 361 ,I spent much money was not on deliheal but on something elses .
>>422 of course in japan. i'm in my room with the air conditioner on. i also sleep with it on and with a blanket and a winter futon over my body because it's so cold in my room.
I downloaded the episode in Japanese and then downloaded additional English subtitles. I don't think they would air this show where I live anytime soon (I'm in Germany).
I don't know very much Japanese, but I thought it was funny that キタ had been translated into "YES!" - how would you translate it?
I think it's because online you can say what you cannot say in real life. The internet has always been the place to voice controversial opinions. Also these issues seem to be useful in creating big drama and offense. Some people entertain themselves with that.
You're both on to something...it's just astounding how people can denigrate zainichis, weaving one story after another like conspiracy theorists. It would be easier to tolerate if these discussions were remotely academic, or were in some ways grounded in facts but usually the stuff i see on these boards resembles the demented ramblings of a neurotic idiot.
>>437 the fact that 2ch is an anonymous based bbs adds to its insanity. but then again, it's none the less, or i would say, all the more fascinating because of all this.
I and Kaela were watching some TV program the other day. Aoi Miyazaki were appearing on the program. when I carelessly said 'Wow She is very pretty, isn't she?', just then my Kaela got anger and burst into tears Kaela ' does that mean that you cannot love me more and you love her?' I ' oh, no. that means she is just simply pretty, you are more beautiful. and don't forget I'm your knight' and i huggen her tightly and kissed her, She went back to normal. Love is sometime difficult I understood.
You shouldn't be carelessness in front of your lover.
hahaha I am a bit older that your thought. but my future is brightest, I and Kaela make our future rightest, No need to worry. but I am not a perfect neet. I am her KNIGHT.
I hear people in the U.S. or Europe often take time off to work, travel and grow up. these experience will actually be their advantage when they look for a job. In Japan, if you do the same thing, it will be considered shameful. That means what makes the year off experince shameful is the geography.
Neet and Freeter are considered to be the most attractive/hot in Japan. As soon as i said that I was a Freeter the other day they(the girls) looked me differently. Suddenly there's a twinkle in their eyes, and they eager to get my attention. Some girls even tryed to touch and rub my body and went like, do you have a girlfriend? is there a chance to go out with me sometimes?" and all. I have no idea why almost all girls are attracted to Neet and Freeter in Japan. It really weird.
>>477 I bought tickets for Barcelona games hoping to see Ronaldinho... but he didn't come (Man, I was so pissed off), and now he is in Japan playing...
>>489 The last year was pretty bad year for people living in Niigata (although I am from NIigata, I don't live there anymore), but I am sure that "good wills" from people like you have touched them( and I myself appreciate people like you).
If you are looking for pen pal, then, you are in the wrong place. But then again, if you keep posting here, you might get responses from people like me.
>>501 for one thing, if it's from a stranger, that gives it a high probability. there are certain file types and extensions that you should never open, really. like .exe and .doc files, unless it's from a trusted person.
Geeez, =X, you are really "popular" here... I've been posting for the last... say an hour... and didn't get much response (still got few good one). But as soon as you are back, people are jumping on...
>>510 well, i started coming here a few weeks ago.. and it's probably because i started posting with a name, i guess. sometimes i wonder if i should continue doing it..
Maybe this topic has been exhausted, but I refuse to believe that being a NEET is a good thing. I certainly don't think it's shameful, but I don't think you should get a pat on the back for leeching off your parents after your mid-twenties (which is what most NEET seem to do).
>>532 it's fun, but i'm usually busy during the school year. i hear japan's college students aren't as busy as they were in junior high and high school..
>>534 That's really tempting... you and me... shit and piss.. Groovy? Yes. We are going to DYNAMITE!! But then, who's going to be a sidekick, you or me? And I kinda want to have more twist...
OK, guys. I've got t go. I am still waiting for a good HN... right now, the candidate is "Mr. Piss." I will check the thread tomorrow, so please keep posting...

Hey, guys! Why don't you try the test below? The test is designed to assess the extent of your vocabulary. If you have self-confidence in your vocablary, try 'Advanced.' I scored no more than 97 out of 120(14,700) words.

You are supposed to choose synonyms or words that you think are the most relevent. Honestly I believed the result would be much better, therefore I am not in the least satisfied with the result.
Why don't you let me know the results? Everybody in other threads insists that average high-school kids in English-speaking countries have the surprisingly large vocabulary of 15,000 words or more. Is it the case? As for me, it does not sound neither convincing nor plausible.

This isn't the case at all! Well, certainly not around here in California. We are expected to "memorize" 10-20 words a school week, but often times the words are words we already know, such as "dissolve." Also, within a matter of weeks, the new words we learn are forgotten with a few exceptions.
To be honest, I'd have to say the average highschooler knows only, um, 7,000 words. Yeah, 7,000 words sounds about right.
Then again, California has some of the worst schools in America.
>>To be honest, I'd have to say the average highschooler knows only, um, 7,000 words. Yeah, 7,000 words sounds about right.
That's such a seemingly arbitrarily chosen figure that it can't possibly be right. Not only that, you appear to be basing your conclusions on how things are for you personally.
The other possibility is that you're intentionally trying to give off an inaccurate picture of American youths. As an active Internet troll, I can't really say anything against it, I guess.

(I need to learn how to use this board better, hehe)
Anyway, yes, this figure is coming from my perspective, but I have yet to find a person in my school who bothers to remember every single word taught to us in not just English, but also science, since it definately does not feel like we would have learned 15,000 words in grades 1-12 in English alone.
>>589 you don't have to quote the whole post.... just point to the post you're responding to.
the words you learn don't come solely from your schoolwork, you know. if you can read a novel without using a dictionary, chances are you know more than 7,000 words. at least. then again, i dunno what the "average" high schooler is like where you're coming from..
>>since it definately does not feel like we would have learned 15,000 words in grades 1-12 in English alone
I bet you'd be surprised at just how large your vocabulary is. I mean, I wouldn't imagine that people think about it all that much... It's their native language; they just use it.
Gauging your ability and putting a concrete number on the measure of the extent of your vocabulary is probably going to seem weird no matter how high or low it is.
Yes, I guess that's true. But the figure of 15,000 certainly can't be true unless heavy studying for, say, the SAT's. Perhaps one can make it appear that they know 15,000 through latin roots, but memorizing 15,000 seems to unlikely~
Well, thanks for the fun discussion. Must be running off to get some food from our local supermarket! :D
>>592 no prob. but even studying for the SAT isn't going to more than *double* your vocab from 7000 to 15000. look at any SAT or even GRE book, and you'll only see a few *hundred* words at most; and those are only there because they are difficult and aren't commonly used.
average japanese high school students preparing for university entrance exams know about 6,000 to 8,000 english words. so i agree with =x, 'cause native english speakers know a lot of words used in everyday life, such as "zap" "pee", etc, other than ones they learn in school, while non-native high schoolers don't know those words. perhaps 12,000 to 15,000 words sound about right.
For English-speaking guys, 7,000 words don't strike me as a large vocabulary. Even Japanese high-school kids are expected to learn several thousand words by the end of a school. On the other hand, as I pointed out, 1,5000 words seem equally unconvincing. They also say educated English-speaking people have the vocabulary of 30,000. What about your dads or uncles? Do they seem to know so many words? What they usually read? Shakespear or John Milton?

Few days have passed, ive thought about writin in here earlier, just to take out some of my anger... just never got around to it. Yes, I know... I dont really do anything everyday, except sit online, sleep, watch 2 movies a day, eat and shower.... but after awhile time starts moving so slowly that you start to pick up other things to do. Ive been looking at photosites alot lately to fill my one wall all with pictures of people and stuff. I've looked on clothing sites on getting ideas of where to get my clothes for school, Since im not allowed to get clothes from hottopic or anywhere gothy. So i have come to the conclusion of pants from American Eagle. Which happens to be a prep store, but my Mum is being very difficult right now and she doesn't want me dressing differently because she claims shes protecting me from being judged. Even before i dressed different, and before i was depressed, I was judged by everyone.
Please god, if you are reading my mind while im typing this, can you please point me in some direction that will help me choose what to do. I am so tired of making decisions on my own. I want your help now. I want someone who is going to love me no matter what.......
>>604 Doch. Ich spreche Deutsch auch so gut wie Englisch. Welche Sprache kannst du, nur Japanisch, oder? Jetzt dikutieren wir ueber Wortschatz der Englisch-sprachigen. Was denkst du daran?
A thread like this is impossible on 2ch. The anonymity of this message board kills any chance for real discussion. But just for the hell of it, I'll try and start a topic and see how it goes.
Why do you think that most message boards in Japan almost encourage people to post anonymously? On the other hand, why do most American or western forums require registration to post?
>>630 I can try answer the question pertaining to the western boards〜 1) For identity security reasons. Wouldn't want people pretending to be someone else on a board, right? 2) If someone needs to be punished on a site for whatever reason (such as posting disgusting images), registration allows one to ban an account instead of an IP, which is benefitial if the PC is being shared by multiple people or if someone is using a proxy. 3) To give people a larger sense of identity on a board 4) Often times, there are messaging systems on a site called "Private messages" or PM's. Very useful if you need to share sensitive information.
Well yes those are the obvious reasons I agree. What I intended to ask was why do you think Japanese boards are mostly anonymous when western boards usually require registration?
I was asking more about the cultural differences, I suppose.
Ich verstehe ganz genau, was du geschrieben hast. Man lernt in den USA meistens Spanisch, ich glaube. Warum hast du Deutsch ausgewaehlt? Interessierst du dich fuer Japanisch auch? Also, lerne Deutsch immer fleissig!
>>635 Ah, thanks for clearing that up ^^ I really don't know how to answer that since I know so little about Japanese culture and stance on anonyminitym, hehe〜 Sorry ^^;
Oh, you're not Japanese? I find it pretty rare to find non-Japanese people posting here. There are a lot of Japanese people who are good at English, but you can usually tell if they are Japanese or not through their writing styles. Well, even if you don't know much about Japanese culture, why do you think that western message boards require registration? Do you think it has anything to do with culture?
It's silly I know, but please tell me... Do you wear glasses? What is your shoe size? How often do you find that you need to trim your finger and toenails? What is the extent of your formal education?
why do westerns use names and japanese prefer anonymity? it's simple question. japanese people compared to westerns are less public, comparing with westerns, japanese dont really like publicity. that's why japan use anonymous BBS
ugly face is a mere myth. there are very few truly ugly faces. most of the faces are normal(not amazing beautiful but not ugly either) but if you dont care about your face. it will turn from normal to ugly.
>>664 They hatch a fucking plan to be away or have some distance when I talk to them. accoding to thier faces, They hates and discriminate me. No girls help me.
Have you thought about meeting people over the Internet? If you bond with a woman and build up a relationship with her before you even see each other, your physical condition won't matter as much. She'll already have feelings for you.
>>642 I'll just answer this in English since my German isn't good enough for what I'm about to say... Everyone tends to select Spanish since it's labeled an "easy language"- where's the fun in that? Learning an easy language I mean. Challanges are just more fun, including challenges in academics! Besides, tried Spanish once, and just... hated it for some reason >_>;; And yes, I'm very interested in Japanese (blame FFXI for that), though my Japanese is very... weak at the moment.
>>653 Yes, sir! *army salute* I refuse to reveal my name, but it is Indian (Asian kind). I am female (and very proud of it), and live in California!
>>654 Maybe it is a cultural thing- people that I know on the net tend to like new features on boards to tinker with. But that's just my online clique, so I can't speak for others.
>>667 Why would you like to know my shoe size? o.O;; Anyway, in American sizes, it's an 8-8 1/2. Fairly average.
>>675 I agree with 674. you could try to meet women over the internet that would also give you some practice to talk to women and it won't be so scary for you since they are not in front of you
>>682 Actually, around here, Asian American-Indians are very common! They seem to be the third most common minority. And no offense taken in the religion question. I myself am not of any particular religion, but my mother is a Hindu. My father on the other hand is a Christian, but he's caucasian, so that is fairly expected.
>>689 not really. girls may ask for older men but only if they're rich and handsome. look at reality. there are no cute girl for you! but you can change it, if you will start work on yourself. of course you will not get a beautiful young girl, but I am sure you will be able to find yourself a wife..
>>686 No way!? Third in California? So it would be Hispanics/Latinos then African Americans then Asian-Indians... I assumed south east Asians had number three, or maybe Chinese. Intersting.
>>693 This is around San Francisco/Silicon Valley, so that might explaint he minorities. From what I see daily, it seems that Hispanics are the most common minority, then Chinese, then Indians, then Blacks.
>>696 Got it, I was thinking California as a whole. You're mostly likely right then. Its been awhile since i was in San Francisco but that seemed to be the case.
>>697 Good to see you'll work on yourself! I'm sure that you'll beable to find a wife. ^^ After all, as the English saying goes, "there are plenty of fish in the see."
>>695 Yeah, that's one thing that I love my parents for. Often I see my friends being pressured into staying Christian/Muslim, with only one exception〜
If you aren't bald then you still have a lot of hope. As long as you skinny up to a level acceptable by most of society and clean yourself up a bit you can find a partner. It is much harder for those who are bald or balding, however. Definitely keep your hair short or shaved.
Men, I must prepare and go to slave job. Good bye. Thank you for your all sincere advices. Those help me too much. I must keep on having hope and change for better.
As for why it's come to this historically, I don't know. But I think westerners take their online individualities too seriously. After all, you can also identify yourself on 2channel with a tripcode if you really need. But when you need to register, you need to have an e-mail account for that and one that you don't mind getting spammed, etc. Even if you just want to make one single post you are required to register at most western forums. I think that's a hassle.
Also, personalities are pretty tedious and useless in online discussions. Defending them, attacking them, the whole ad hominem deal... That tends to get annoying, cliques form up, there's seniors that automatically get respected, no matter what they say, ect... That's usually just a source of useless drama. It's good that you can avoid that on places like this.
Also, I don't think anonymity kills discussion. Quite the contrary, since you don't have to mind the actual person, you can focus on the subject of discussion better and come to an objective conclusion easier.
Im reading now this book "All american girl" which is aimed at probably junior high school students or maybe highschool students, since the main character in this book is a high school girl. With my vocabuluary( that test's result said I knew 6370 words ) I can read this book without missing the point. but the words i don't know are here and there, and there are some sentenses I can't understand even after I re-read it again and again. Thinking that most of the readers of this book in the USA read it more easily than I do, they know more than 7000 words. like someoneelse said, probably 1200 words or more, i guess.
average american girl sells her body for luxury goods! it's truth I read about it in newspaper! america is creepy country! you can even buy a gun in america!
