one of problem is the distance covered in one charge of the battery. It is reported that electric cars can cover about half the distance gasoline cars can, and that to charge the battery, say for a distance of 150km,it takes about eight hours.
“Mother Love is the story of Katherine, Jude, and Louise, daughters of a woman recently deceased, a mother they view at best with mixed emotions. The mother they remember was eccentric, alcoholic, self-indulgent — yet they are tied to her, loving her, still feeling slightly guilty that she didn’t love them better. Their habit of telling stories about Mother is an effort to cement the relationship; and yet the stories always end, as Louise says, by being grotesque. . . . These are brittle people, carefully holding themselves in against further hurt, and the frequent razor-sharp exchanges between them are painfully accurate. . . . But between mothers and daughters and sisters there is a tie that binds. Candace Flynt shows us a special absolving kind of love.”
We have vowed to reconstruct our communities in the 10 years immediately after the quake," Ido said. "With the value of human lives and the community in our mind, we must proceed with creating a society in which people can live with a sense of security."
Various events commemorating the quake were held in Kobe and nearby towns. Citizens gathered at an amusement park in Kobe's Chuo Ward and lit about 6,500 candles in memory of the dead at the same time the quake hit.
"We have suffered great losses but have come to learn about human tenderness and human kindness," said Kiichi Adachi, 56, representing the victims' families. "Maybe this is what we, the survivors of the disaster, have to convey to people who are in the same situation."

会話の分なんですが 最後の二人のやり取りがわかりません 訳してください Chris's friend, Erika is just back in japan for summer. She was away for a year to study in the U.S.
Chris: Erika, long time no see. The last time I met you, we watched the World Cup games. Erika: Yes. We watched one game on a small TV outside the stadium. Chris: With us, there were over 50 people from all over the world. After that, I saw kids outside their homes playing soccer. Everyone in Japan seemed to be doing and feeling the same thing. Erika: Yeah. It was as if everyone became a soccer fan. Even may dad was watching the World Cup on TV. Normally he only watches baseball. Chris: Baseball is still the most popular sport. But soccer is the second most popular. More people love to watch soccer. They can jump up and down, cheer and be a part of the excitement. It may be the only sport you can watch and do a good physical exercise. Erika: Even in baseball games, team supporters sing and dance. But most fans are sitting and concentrating on each pitch. Some are chatting, eating or drinking. I guess watching baseball is easier, because you can sit down and relax between innings. Chris: I agree. Probably watching soccer is tough. It is 90 minutes of almost nonstop tension. Erika: So that's why people were crazy about it last summer. Chris: Right. Small we try that again in 2006? Erika: Why not?

@Inequality of health care is still paramount, says the WHO`s latest report. Industrialised countries account for less than 20 percent of the world`s population but take 90 percent of health spending. In japan more than five hundred dollars is spent on drugs per person per year. This compares to just three dollars in sierra leone. Only slightly more is spent in many sub-saharan countries.
AOver the last fifty years, life expectancy has increased globally from forty six years to sixty five. But today, instead of the gap being between the developed and developing countries, it`s now biggest between the very poorest nations and all other countries. The burden of infectious diseases, including HIV,as well as chronic conditions, coupled with a lack of health care, has led to this situation.
BHowever,It`s children who are most affected.Almost fifty seven million people died in 2002, nearly twenty per cent children of less than 5 years of age,and ninety eight per cent of these deaths occurred in developing countries.

@ The English Civil War and its aftermath is a subject which has prompted historians almost to physical violence and certainly to unbridled verbal exchanges. The storm over the gentry and their alleged `rise'; the radicalism or otherwise of the parliamentary army; the role of the House of Lords; the significance of the personalities of such key figures as Charles I, Archbishop Laud and the Earl of Strafford; and even whether the Ranters existed have all produced animated and sometimes downright furious debate between historians.
A In recent years the debate has shifted away from the political events in England to a larger stage, to that of the British Isles as a whole. What has become known, after Conrad Russell's lecture in 1985, as 'the British dimension' is rapidly becoming the new orthodoxy. It is certainly becoming unacceptable for historians of seventeenth-century Britain to refer only to the other nations of these islands solely in terms of their impact upon England. Increasingly, the history of the seventeenth century is being read in terms of the interaction of these nations.
B But there are two difficulties. The first is that there is a real shortage of primary source materials for the histories of Scotland, Wales and Ireland. It is not just that there are fewer historians actually studying these countries, but that these countries are much less richly endowed with records. Added to this is the fact that the survival of these records has been much more haphazard than is the case in England.
T The distribution of new fortified buildings in France and the British Isles gives us an extraordinary insight into the sense of safety which, for example, the inhabitants of the Scottish borders felt on the eve of the Bishops' Wars between England and Scotland (1639-40). Yet there is a great deal of huffing and puffing in these buildings. Noblemen loved to retain the trappings of a castle even if, as is the case with several tower houses in the borders, it turns out that the building was totally indefensible. Yet elsewhere, as for example in Vauban's magnificent fortresses on the borders of France, the science and art of fortification was reaching new heights, influencing the English who built a similar kind of fortress to guard Cork harbour in Ireland. U The spread of religious changes in all countries can be charted in the buildings and furnishings of their churches, or sometimes in their total absence. In the course of making a television programme about a Herefordshire church I was intrigued to learn that the way the altar or communion table was constructed showed us whether it was intended to be placed in the body of the church or against the east end. V Supplementing traditional written sources with the physical remains of the period has been especially important for those places where there is a shortage of literary documentation. The history of the Welsh gentry is not much written about, yet nothing brings home more clearly the differences between them and their English counterparts than looking at their houses, which are much more modest in size and have closely associated agricultural buildings.
W By using this material evidence we have tried to bring together political and social histories. The scale of the hubris of Fouquet, Louis XIV's finance minister who fell from power when the king saw the minister's new residence at Vaux-le-Vicomte, is utterly comprehensible when you see the magnificence to which he aspired in his house and gardens. Yet at Jigginstown, near Dublin, the Earl of Strafford was building on a similar scale in anticipation of a visit, never made, by Charles I to Ireland.

Well - I watched about 20 minutes before giving up - can't comment on the whole film though - hey, maybe it got better? It looked like an interesting idea to start with but the characters, when introduced were so two dimensional and the plot so uninteresting it failed to grab my attention. But i think it was the acting which really blew it - very wooden and unconvincing right from the start.

What is history?, is that it is a continuous process of interaction between the historian and his facts, an unending dialogue between the present and the past.

Kevin decided to go upstairs and wake his parents. If they wouldn't let him stay up late at night, there was no way he'd let them sleep late in the morning. A moment later Kevin stepped into his parents' bedroom. The bed was empty and unmade. "Mom? Dad?" he called. No one answered. He looked in the bathroom and back out in the hall. "Hey, where are you guys?" Again, no one answered. Kevin decided to ask Buzz. He’d know where their parents were. But Buzz’s bedroom was empty. So was Megan’s and his own. Soon Kevin had worked his way through the whole house. Every room was empty. “I know! They’re in the basement, playing a trick on me.” Kevin ran downstairs and burst through the basement door. It was dark and shadowy. “Dad? Mom? Megan? Buzz? Aunt Leslie? Uncle Frank?” Kevin called out all their names, but no one answered. Where were those dumb people? Then Kevin remembered … France! They were all supposed to go to France today! A terrible thought struck him. Could they have gone without him? Kevin raced to the garage and looked inside. Relief! His parents’ cars were there. And Uncle Frank’s car was still parked in the driveway. So they couldn’t have gone to the airport. But if they weren’t gone and they weren’t here, where were they? Kevin went back into the kitchen. The red light on the coffeemaker was glowing. His mother always made sure it was off before she went out. She always made the beds, too. Kevin’s eye drifted to the pile of empty pizza boxes. And his mom always, always, made sure the garbage was thrown ---

The garden og a Japanese houseis usually hidden from the street by high walls or a fence. It is designed to be viewed only from inside the house, and is not intended for public view. It represents a whole landscape in miniature. Gardens in the West are designed so that they will present a pleasant view when seen from either the house or the street. If they are enclosed by a wall or a fence, this is usually not so high as to prevent passersby from looking in.

To rejoice in life, to find the world beautiful and delightful to live in, was a mark of the Greek spirit which distinguished it from all that had gone before. It is a vital distinction. The joy of life is written upon everything the Greeks left behind and they who leave it out of account fail to reckon with something that is of first importance in understanding how the Greek achievement came to passin the world of antiquity.
The problem with students today, an English department colleague tells me, is not that they can't read, but that they don't read. Students can recognize words and clauses, she complains, but they're deaf to the subtler signals of a text. Many of us who teach courses dealing with numbers suspect that our students have similar troubles with mathematics. Students can enter equations into a computer, but they can't tell whether an answer is reasonable or outlandish. Because they regard numbers as mere tokens, the numbers never grow familiar; mathematics is reduced to an empty exercise instead of a way of reading nature's message. お願いします。
Since the 1980s, the notion of 'standard' has come to the fore in public debate about the English language. At national level, in several countries (but especially in the UK), the concern has focused on the devising of an acceptable national curriculum for English in primary and secondary education. At international level, the focus has been on the question of which national standards to use in teaching Englishas a foreign language. In both contexts, however, before sensible decisions can be made about how to introduce Standard English or teach it, there is a need for clear understanding about what it actually is.

Try to imagine a world without wheels. We ride on them in cars and trains, we use them as gears inside machines, and we push or pull toys mounted on them. Think about how difficult it was to move heavy burdens from one place to another before wheels were invented. Few inventions have changed our world as much as the invention of the wheel.
The water in the calorimeter was observed carefully as the temerature approached 0 ℃. It was observed that the temperature was seen to fall for a short time without any ice forming. The temperature was seen to fall a few degrees below 0 ℃ while the water remained liquid. It was then noticed that the temperature rose to 0 ℃ and ice began to form. The temperature was found to remain constant at 0 ℃ when ice was present. The behavior of the temperature of the water can be seen from the graph. From the results, it can be seen that the temperature fell a few degrees below zero before ice formed. A loss of temperature indicates a loss of heat energy; therefore it can be stated that as the temperature of the water fell below zero, the water continued to give out energy to the surrounding freezing mixture. Since the temperature rose as the ice formed, it can similarly be stated that energy was gained by the water as it became solid. When the water frose,a change of state took place, as the water changed from a liquid to a solid state. It was noted that the temperature rose during this time. Heat energy must therefore habe been absorbed by the water during the change of state. It can therefore be concluded that energy was required in order to bring about a change of state in the water. The experiment demonstrates that energy is required to produce a change of state.

Although different mechanisms of distribution sometimes produce comparable end-results, the pattern of exponential fall-off is produced only by a down-the-line trading system.
For instance, if one village receives its supplies of a raw material down a linear trading network from its neighbor up the line, retains a given proportion of the material(e.g.one-third) for its own use, and trades the remainder to its neighbor down the line, and if each does the same, an exponential fall-off curve will result.

To clean the headband, take a wet washcloth and put a little detergent and a little Spray and Wash and gently rub down the headband with the wet wash cloth. After you have sufficiently cleaned the headband of sweat stains and soil, rinse the wash cloth out with clear water and once again wash down the headband, cleaning up any left soap. Let dry and your cap will be ready to go again. Some sweat stains stay in but at least the cap will be clean.

LONDON (Reuters) - Interest rates look set to hit four percent in a fortnight after new figures showed the economy roaring ahead at the end of last year and consumers splashing out on things like TVs and DVD players at Christmas.
The Office for National Statistics said on Friday the world's fourth largest economy grew by 0.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2003, the fastest rate in over three years.
Retail sales jumped by more than twice the rate predicted by analysts in the key December shopping season, rising by 0.9 percent, the strongest gain since June's heatwave got Britons rushing out to buy barbecues and new summer clothes.
November's 0.1 percent gain was also revised up to 0.4 percent, taking the quarterly rate of sales growth to nearly two percent, its highest in one and a half years.

I still did not receive the goods, so I will hold on if I was you, I did pay them about a week ago, it can also be a bootleg, in which case I will demand my money back. I also got e-mails from the Third, and Fourth bidders in the auction that they have been offered a copy, it all sounds a bit suspicious to me, but hold on until I actually receive the copy I bought from them.

Brian has been known to toss back a few. Some say it's to kill the pain that comes with the social stigma of being a dog. Others say it's to help him forget the time before he met Peter, when he was a homeless stray who cleaned windshields for handouts. But Brian will tell you it's just good for his coat.
Oh, for the sake of momentum I've allowed my fears to get larger than life And it's brought me to my currentagendum Whereupon I deny fulfillment has yet to arrive
And I know life is getting shorter I can't bring myself to set the scene Even when it's approaching torture I've got my routine
Oh, for the sake of momentum Even though I agree with that stuff about seizing the day But I hate to think of effort expended All those minutes and days and hours I have frittered away
And I know life is getting shotter I can't bring myself to set the scene Even when it's approaching torture I've got my routine
But I can't confront the doubts I have I can't admit that maybe the past was bad And so, for the sake of momentum I'm condemning the future to death so it can match the past
太宰治、人間失格に関する海外のレビューなんですが どなたか訳お願いします。 This novel covers the life of Yozo, a young man who feels alienated from human society. He finds it impossible to connect with his fellow humans, and in fact, fears them. He is afraid of what they think of him. He puts on the face of a clown, but he is totally crushed when he is found out to be a phoney. As he enters University, he comes to battle with alchohol and drugs. The center of his misery is his inability to have a normal relationship with women. However, the fault lies completely within himself and his terribly pessimistic attitude. This was an interesting book, but I found it difficult to get into the head of the dark hero. In this book, he finds no hope, and there are no ways to escape from his depression and his fear of society. He can only escape. It was difficult to fathom his point of view, but I think it helped me to understand the feelings of people who shut themselves away from society.
It is universally accepted that the airspace over a country is part of its territory , but the same is not true of orbital flight space above the atmosphere .
This primitivist version of the realist assumption, this siting of political truth in a projected other or outside, has problematic effects beyond the automatic coding of identity vis-a-vis alterity noted above.
Commentators have dwelled on the scale of the planning that this terrorist mission must have required. But it is just as important to consider the intensity of the hatred it took to bring it off.
Dominique Dwor-Frecaut, of Barclay's Capital, warned that the economic impact was "potentially serious", and said that the challenge for Bangkok would be to "contain the panic, contain the epidemic, and communicate in a credible manner that it has contained the epidemic".
round out は「(事)をより完全なものにする、完成する、 磨きをかける」と辞書に出ていて、さらにネットで検索してみると How equity options can be used to refine the risk return profile という文が見つかりました。この refine(磨く、洗練する)が round out の同義語と考えられます。 もっと簡単に表現すると「改良する」としてもいいのでは?
>>585さん=577さん?? ひょっとして私にレスつけて下さってますか? だとしたら wanna be a rock not to roll it you'll never make me a doll babe wanna be a rock not to roll it you'll never make me a fool babe 以下日本語の歌詞〜
皆さん考えすぎではないか。rock はそのまま「岩」でいいんでしょう。 roll it の it は rock を指し、wanna be a rock not to roll it で 「転がすことの出来ない岩になりたい」 これと次の you'll never make me a doll babe とつながる。
>>574そのほか "wanna be a rock not to roll it"っていうのは、 Led Zeppelinっていうバンドのすごく有名な曲 "Stairway to heaven"の詞の一節、 "to be a rock not to roll it"を拝借していると思われ。 訳詞では、 'When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll. " が 「我ら一つの岩となり決して揺らぐことはなし」 だったかな
It was not a good year. At harvest the crops did not bring as much as we had hoped. Yet even though times were hard, I couldn`t wait. I asked,"Daddy, may I have a violin of my own ?" "Mary, can`t you use Suzanne`s ?" "I`d like to be in the orchestra, too, and we can`t both use the same violin at the same time." Daddy`s fase looked sad. I often heard him pray to God, "Lord, Mary wants her own violin." One evening,we all sat around the table. The twins and I studied. Mother sewed, and Daddy wrote a letter to his friend, George Finkle, in Columbus,Ohio. My Finkle, Daddy said, was a fine violinst. Daddy wrote: "Would you find a violin for my third daughter ? I can`t pay much, but she enjoys music, and we`d like her to have her own violin."

N.Korea:No talks with Bolton. North Korea said Sunday it still was ready for six-way talks to revolve a crisis over its nuclear ambitions, but it would have no dialogue with U.S Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security John Bolton after his sharp criticism of the country and its people.
you only mailed it from Japan on Monday. You didn't send it express with a tracking number. This is the amount of time it takes. I actually couldn't believe that you mailed it monday and on tuesday you were asking if I got it. I don't live right next door to you, I am in New York. Please be patient or use Western Union next time and it would already have been sent.
no problem, I am not angry, just concerned that you thought it should be here so soon. Tell you what I am going to do. I will ship your order out in advance of your payment since you said you sent it. Thanks,
I need to pick up on both of studying Japanese, getting exercise and other things, though. As I write this email I'm also writing out a bit of a self-imposed lesson plan to help guide my studies in Japanese over the next few months. Perhaps a little more structure is what I need in order to keep up with my studies.

Sorry I have not been better about letting you know what I'm up to. I don't know what is ahead for me in February. It's almost here already, but I'm trying really hard to get this job in LA, and I may have to move immediately. So...I don't know my schedule. It's a little crazy. I'm not really working much lately, but there may be a lot coming up, so it's hard for me to say.

うわ。レス早い!! (2/3) For their $2,000(¥212,000)fee, they may be steered to smoking cessation sessions, or hear a talk by a nutritionist. They will learn the early signs and symptoms of cancer and they almost certainly will have a cancer screening test.

1 You are ready for the alter How you say in the States? Conga-rats! Bravo!
2 KA-CHING! It is a crass thing to say, I know, but oh-so-appropriate. For with a little more time, the Baron thinks that will soon be your weeding march! Ching-ching-ka-ching!?
3 Almost, mon petit chou. Stay close to your Baron, and one day soon you'll be ready to find amours, sans assistance!
4 Get thee to a nunnery! Such an innocent has no business with the business of love! Your are too sweet for this world, the Baron must shut you away!
5 Tssk. Tssk. c'est triste, c'est triste. There is nothing the Baron can teach you. Rocks do not go to school, no? You understand what Puffy is telling you, yes?
"pain of glass that your pebbles tap"ってのは、この主人公を部屋の窓から呼ぶために 窓に小石をぶつけて合図にしているのを指していると思われ。(映画とかでよくある) 主人公はこの"you"を嫌っているから、その合図を"pain of glass"というふうに表現しているんだろう。

I no longer stay up all night for anything. If I have work I should have done and haven't,I go to bed and try to get it finished the next morning. There is no single thing in my adult life so regularly unpleasant and burdensome as homework was in my youth. If I work home from the office now, it's because the work interests me. It is not drudgery and if I don't feel like doing it, I put it off. There are still things that come up in my life for which I'm unprepared, but they don't bother me the way they did when I was a teenager. They no longer seem like life-or-death situations. Love is more pleasant once you get out of your twenties. It doesn't hurt all the time. I no longer fall in and out of love. I have my love. I offer all this to young people who are wondering about life. Don't think things keep getting worse. Youth can be a terrible time of life just because of all the things you hate to do, but have to do anyway.
Another cold day!! How is your day going? I am getting ready for my trip to Austria and Germany this weekend. It seems very cold there...about -5!!! Also, maybe one of these days when you have time, don you want to have lunch or dinner together so that we can get to know each other better? Alright, take care and talk to you later!!

The powerful blow of this animal's paw is unusually strong. In one case the tiger rushed on a Chinese loggers wagon train from an ambush. By one jump it threw down the horse of the first sledge. The horse sprang up again and rushed forward. This left the tiger's hind legs on the ground. Holding the horse with its fore legs, the tiger tore out the whole horse's flank with its right paw, and the left one caught the eye sockets and broke down the neck vertebrae. All this time the woodcutters, going on twenty sledges, lay down on snow, begging the terrible king of the mountain taiga for mercy. By tearing off the harness, this blood-thirsty king snatched the dead horse at the back of the neck, carried the carcass for half kilometer on into thickets and ate up the hind legs. Three days later it hid again in an ambush in the same place, doing the same thing with another horse, leaving people safe and secure once again The hunt on the tiger in Manchuria became a business for only newly arrived people from internal China, who had partially lost this cult and were not familiar with the ideology of the local population. The aboriginal Manchurian trappers and hunters, being under the charm of the fearful "king of the taiga ", not only think not about hunting it, but in every possible way protect it from the newcomers, Chinese and Russian, who look at it as only a favorable object of hunt

She's a restaurant owner. She is selling food, and at the same time, worried about whether or not the people that are waiting the tables can get insurance.
これの「are waiting the tables」の部分は そのまま「テーブルを待っている人」と訳していいんでしょうか? 話しの前後から考えると、レストランで働いている人のことを 言っているのかなぁとも思ったのですが・・・
Today, when the 9:00 evening movie is broadcast, thousands of people will sit down to watch it. TV stations are "pushing out" the information into the public, everone watching the same thing at the sametime. In the post-information age, however, you will select the shows you want to see at the time when you want to see them. This is called "pulling in" information. In the future, pulling in information of all kinds will be more common than pushing ont information. People will enjoy much more freedom of choice based on their personal testes.
The territories of modern states were constituted in conquest, rebellion, secession, the murder of heirs, multiple treaties, purchases, surrenders of rights to commercial exploitation, acts of parliaments, the intermarriage of ruling families, hereditary succession to estates thitherto unconnected, the extinction of palatine independencies, the consolidation of expired fiefs, and the falling in of feudal inheritances, and their boundaries were often the lines upon which contingent hostilities came to rest.
In the post-information age, however, you will select the shows you want to see at the time when you want to see them. This is called "pulling in" information. In the future, pulling in information of all kinds will be more common than pushing ont information.
The fact that there is a lot of it in the oceans, lakes and rivers does not make it less precious. We know that our bodies are 65 percent water, that we can survive for many days without food, but only a short time without water. We use it throughout the day, without stopping to think, but just imagine cleaning your teeth with toothpaste but no water.
Rod Liddle, a former editor of the Today programme who hired Mr Gilligan, went further, insisting that "pretty much most of the country" thought the Hutton report was a whitewash.
Because they come in all makes and models and shapes and sizes as you might expect. all right?OK?And digital cameras what they can do is they can probably print some decent pictures at home although if you're going to be printing pictures for sure that's where you're going to buy a photo printer and that's going to be above your 200 mark.OK?

I have gotten used to many things in Japan but the biggest thing for me to get used to still is the differences in how people act towards each other and the differences in how people define relationships here in Japan.
