What makes human different from other animals? Is it language? tought? or tool? I think it's obvious the language distinguishes humans from the rest of animals.
Disillushionment with the parents, however good and adequate they may be both as parents and individuals,is to some degree inevitable. Most children have such a high ideal of their parents, unless the parents themselves have been unsatisfactory, that it can hardly hope to stand up to a realistic evaluation. 何卒宜しくお願いいたします。
And then... (here`s a question for you!) I ended up a few blocks away from the international forum, at the Tokyo Millenium lights thing. I was by myself, and had no idea what was going on.I got there at about 5:00, and a bunch of beautiful arches were just being lit up, and then about a million (I`m estimating) japanese people walked through them. all taking pictures with their phones. But most people didn`t walk all the way down the street! They just lined up, took pictures, walked through the first few arches, and then left!!! I had no idea what was going on. Is it a good luck thing?
For Christmas eve we went to a very posh (5star) restaurant where we had dinner. Not normally my cup of tea (as the English say) but once in a while it's quite enjoyable. In England you celebrate on the 25th, so we had two x-mases.Not too many presents for me this year but for me, x-mas is not so important anyway.Rob and I have almost three weeks off work and we enjoy staying home and taking it easy. My project for the next weeks is to read Ulysses (James Joyce) and a book by Goethe. In January I'll work at a local newspaper, and in February I'll do another internship in a bookshop. As I have said, after haivng thaught English for so long,I need to try out some other things. Realistically, I'll stick with teaching, though.Yes, I remember the journalist. He was too quick for me and he didn't really seem to have enough time to listen. What did he write? (You can send the article or just give me a summery via mail.) isn't osechi this special rice cake you only eat on New Year's Day? very sticky? Or am I confusing things?
American Airlines, which flew two of the four jets commandeered, is facing a proposed $99,000 fine for violations on six flights in one day. The alleged transgressions, which American stresses were isolated and have been corrected, ranged from the mundane, such as forgetting to ask the two ridiculous screening questions, to the serious, such as flying luggage of passengers who weren't on board. American spokesman John Hotard says the airline spends tens of millions of dollars a year on security and that it "is the only carrier that has its own internal audit team that [every week] goes around various airports to audit not only American Airlines but our security operators."

His readers didn't seem to object; the book was a great success. Modern biographers do not invent such stories; they respect the facts, as indeed they should. But we pay a price for their truthfulness, for in their efforts to show "the whole person," they tell us more than we really need to know about private lives, family secrets and human weaknesses.
Ozeki Tochiazuma, who defeated yokozuna Asashoryu to win the Kyushu basho, will occupy the prestigious east slot as the Japan Sumo Association released the ranking on Wednesday for the upcoming New Year Grand Sumo Tournament. Asashoryu, the fiery grand champion from Mongolia, becomes the sole remaining wrestler to hold sumo`s highest rank after the retirement of Samoan-born yokozuna Musashimaru during the meet in Fukuoka last month. New bad boy on the block Kokkai from Georgia is expected to make a splash in the elite makuuchi division, after dominating his opponents to win the juryo title with a 14-1 record, when the 15-day meet kicks off at Tokyo`s Ryogoku Kokugikan on Jan.11.
2 Tochiazuma, who won his second career Emperor`s Cap with a 13-2 record in Kyushu , shares the east slot with ozeki Kaio, while ozeki Chiyotaikai and Musoyama take the west position. Tosanoumi, who went 10-5 in November, makes his return to the east sekiwake berth after eight basho, while Tamanoshima earned promotion to the west slot with an identical record. Elsewhere, Tochinonada gained promotion to komusubi for the first time in three meets in the east position while Wakanosato, who was demoted from sekiwake after a 7-8 showing, will occupy the wast. Kokkai, previously a No.2 juryo division wrestler, joins the top flight 16 basho after his debut - the 10th quickest to make the elite makuuchi division for wrestlers since 1958. 長いですがよろしくお願いします。
The suicidal behavior of the hijackers in the air will mandate a total revision of emergency procedures in the cabin. In the past, the idea was to try to keep hijackers calm and get the plane on the ground so negotiations could commence. Although airline staff members get annual training in handling hijackers, a kamikaze mission was not in any scenario. In the past, "if someone outside the cockpit was threatening to chop someone's head off, nine times out of 10, you' d open the door," says a Cathay Pacific pilot based in Hong Kong. 和訳おねがいしまつ

The true greatness of a fine person is often forgotten in the display; and people lose not only their admiration for him or her, but their willingness to trust any other "star" completely. This shows clearly in the remarks of a group of high-school students near Los Angeles, who were asked whom they admired. お願いします

It is incumbent upon each citizen to choose between competing propagandas while remaining cognizant of the value for a democracy in the existence of all points of view.
Another student, a girl, added, "The people we try to follow as examples are the ordinary people in our lives.Instead of dreaming of being like some famous woman somewhere.I want to be like my mom's best friend, whom no one in this room would know. But I know and admire her, and that's enough for me." It may be difficult to be a hero in the Western world these days, under the searching eyes of critical people. But surely excellence has not disappeared completely; there are still individuals who are superior to other people by their wisdom, their courage, or their character. They can be heroes if pepole are willing to ignore their human imperfections and to admit the respect that their admirable qualities inspire. Heroes are needed everywhere, at any time. It's a sad sky that has no shining stars.

...My hair was thinning for about 6 months before it finally gave up and just fell out all together. I would lose four or five handfuls in the shower every morning. It would come out in clumps when I brushed my hair. I really noticed it when my part kept getting wider and wider. It was extremely stressful, especially since I had always prided myself on my thick, wavy hair. Once I cut it all off and started on the T3 therapy, plus the change to a high protein/low carb diet, it started growing like crazy. I covered up with bandanas for about 3 months (I had one to match every outfit! :o)) until my friends finally convinced me I looked fine. Once it started growing back, it came in thick. Really thick. And it's growing pretty fast too. Less than a year after being totally bald, my hair was just reaching my shoulders. It's so thick my friends are jealous.

Thank you so much for your christmas wishes. I think of you whenever I take a look at my holiday pictures but I know I didn't write for quite a long time. There were so many things going on in my life at the same time that I didn't have a lot of time just for myself or for writing e-mails. Most important for me of course my new appartement where I'm going to live from next year. I had to clean everything and buy a lot of things. Then there was a lot of stuff going on in the office and I had to do some things for my exams. Last week I left all that behind me and spent some days in Vienna, Austria. I had a chance to get a cheap flight and could stay with a friend who lives there. We had a great time and I saw all the tourist sightseeing spots. It was my first time in Vienna.

An encyclopedia of fantastical beings, the bestiary has an allegorical or moralizing purpose, classifying physical deviance and offering metaphysical counsel as well as presenting an orderly compendium of psychedelic effects. In other words, the bestiary is what Tom composes under the aegis of painting. Tom isn't exactly a painter, though he does paint, with a delicate, illustrator's hand. His work's wildness derives from its collaged elements: flowers, birds, hands, and eyes, all made of paper; glued-on pills, insects, and leaves of cannabis. Encased in layers of resin, pulsing with colorful detail, Tom's images recount tales in which the moral injunction is to balance indulgence with distance--to get off, but to retain a measure of skepticism.

The critics are good, but..the story(would be a psicological-introspective- thriller..)is very easy and obvious. the directors make strange shots. perhaps the producer think that for make a film is enough to see Meg Ryan naked.. I'm perplexed!
あるロシア出身の人と平和や戦争のことについて英語で議論していて、その人は "Everybody likes Peace. But some people like a piece of war."

This is the classic mode of escape. But there are variants of it which I am prepared to allow. The goaler may have a daugher, who, moved by the romantic history and pallor of the priosoner, may exchange clothes with him. The penny pinching, say critics, leads to shortchanging security: some firms never check job applicants for color blindness, even though high-tech screening equipment often uses color monitors to highlight suspicious shapes. Only last October, Argenbright, which is in charge of security at Dulles International Airport near Washington and at Logan, was fined about $1.5 million and pleaded guilty to allowing untrained employees, some with criminal backgrounds (including drug dealing and assault), to staff checkpoints at the airport in Philadelphia from 1995 to 1998.
Now,is it that we are seeking happiness or is it that we are seeking gratification of some kind from which we hope to derive happiness? There is a difference between happiness and gratification. Can you seek happiness? Perhaps you can find gratification but surely you cannot find happiness. Happiness is derivative;it is a by-product of something else.
Orientalism is the name given to the way Europeans thought about the Orient in the 18th century, which stretches from the Middle East through India,China and South Asia to Japan. What is interesting is the fact that the advertiser is a leading Japanese manufacturer. They are using traditional stereotypes of Japan, created out of the Western passion for "orientalizing" Asian people,to promote their product. It's a parody in itself.

There was once a town in the heart of America where all life seemed to live in harmony with its surroundings. The town lay in the middle of prosperous farms, with fields of grain and hillsides of orchards. In spring, white clouds of bloom drifted above the green fields. In autumn, oak and maple and birch produced bright, beautiful colors against a backdrop of pines. Then foxes barked in the bills and deer silently crossed the fields, harf hidden in the mists of the fall mornings. Along the roads, green bushes and wildflowers delighted the traveler's eye through much of the year. Even in winter the roadsides were places of beauty. Countless birds came there to eat the berries and seeds of the dried weeds rising above the snow. The countryside was, in fact, famous for the wide variety of its bird life, and in spring and fall people traveled from great distances to observe them. Others came to fish the streams which flowed clear and cold out of the hills. So it had been from the days many years ago when the first settlers raised their houses, sank their wells, and built their barns.
Then a strange tragedy crept over the area and everything began to change. Some evil spell had settled on the community: mysterious diseases swept the flocks of the chikens; the cattle and sheep sickened and died. Everywhere was a shadow of death. The farmers spoke of much illness among their families. In the town the doctors had become more and more puzzled by new kinds of sickness appearing among their patients. There had been several sudden and unexplained deathe, not only among adults but even among children. They would be stricken suddenly while at play and die within a few hours. There was a strange stillness. The birds, for example - where had they gone? Many people spoke of them, puzzled and disturbed. The few birds seen anywhere trembled violenty and could not fly. It was a spring wthout voices. On the mornings that had been once filled with a chorus of bird voices, there was now no sound; only silence lay over the fields and woods. On the farms the hens sat on their eggs, but no chicks hatched. The farmers complained that they were unable to raise any pigs - the litters were small and the young survived only a few days. The apple trees were coming into bloom but there were no bees among the blossoms, so there was no pollination and there would be no fruit.
The roadsides, once so attractive, were now lined with browned and withered wild grasses as though swept by fire. There, too, were silent. They were deserted by all living things. Even the streams were now lifeless. Anglers no longer visited them, for all the fish had died. Between the shingles of the roofs, a white powder still showed a few patches; some weeks before it had fallen like snow upon the roofs and the lawns, the fields and streams. No witchcraft, no enemy action had silenced the rebirth of new life in this stricken world. The people had done in themselves. This town does not actually exist, but, it might easily have a thousand towns similar to this one in America or elsewhere in the world. I know of no community that has experienced all the misfortunes I describe. Yet every one of these disasters has actually happened somewhere, and many real communities have already suffered a large number of them. A dreadful situation has crept upon us almost unnoticed, and this imagined tragedy may easily become a terrible reality we all shall know. What has already silenced the voices of spring in countless towns in America? This book is an attempt to explain.

For my family, there is not much religion involved, as a matter of fact, I don't know much about bible stuff, only to be a good person the best I can, and try to become better at it. And then Christmas day, this year, I go to my aunt and uncles home near by for dinner of 30 people. Last year my boyfriend Matthew and I travel to the east coast, PA and New York to see his family. If you decide to hop on an airplane, you should come to San Francisco soon and stay with us. We have an extra room in our home for you and you could see California. Think about it Hideo. I had mentioned to you that Matthew is working on a job opportunity to work in Japan, Tokyo, for ABCD, his current job. Well, we will know very soon. I hope this comes to be. I have to begin researching what I will do-- selling something on the Internet. I had mentioned before I work for a plastic surgeon in San Francisco, but I do not think this is possible for me in Japan.Have you been watching Lord of the Rings?

Even after recalibrating for the four fatal hijackings, air travel is still statistically safe in the U.S. But compared with the rest of the world, the U.S. takes the middle road when it comes to airport security. Israel's El Al still sets the highest standards. Put up against Swiss-cheese operations such as those in the countries once part of the Soviet Union or Thailand, where corruption at the airport is endemic, the U.S. is a model of tightness. But compared with the top airports in Europe and Asia, the U.S. continues to lag. In India, only ticketed passengers can enter the terminal. Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur put international bags through a rigorous screening process. And in Europe, upstart budget carrier Ryanair bans most carry-on luggage. よろしくお願いします
What will you do for new year.I'll be going to visit my friends from university in London. It is less formal than Christmas, and for me much more fun.I did see sumo in Tokyo, I really enjoyed it !All the ceremony and decoration impressed me greatly. The build up to each fight is almost as entertaining as the fight itself. I'll definitely go again next time I am in Japan.

I can escape into illusions,I can run away from contention, strife, struggle;I can worship another; I can look for my salvation through somebody else. But so long as I am ignorant of myself,so long as I am unaware of the total process of myself, I have no basis for thought, for affection, for action. But that is the last thing we want:to know ourselves. Surely that is the only foundation on which we can build. But,before we can build, before we can transform, before we can condemn or destroy,we must know that which we are.
No one can deny that Rachel Carson's book, "Silent Spting", proves that the power of an idea can be far greater than the power of politicians. In 1962, when "Silent Spring" was first published, the word "environment" was not even used by politicians. In a few cities, especially Los Angeles, people began to talk about the smog, but only referred to its appearance without realizing its danger to public health. Conservation - later environmentalism - had been mentioned by politicians during the 1960 presidential elections, but only briefly and usually when speaking about national parks and natural reasources. And expect for a few articles in certain scientific journals, most peple never read about or discussed the growing, invisible dangers of DDT and other pesticides and chemicals. "Silent Spring" was like a cry from the wilderness, a deeply felt, carefully reserched, and well written book that changed the course of history. Without this book, the enviromental movement might have been long delayed or never have developed at all.
"Silent Spring" started an environmental campaign that has grown into one of the great movements of all time. When Rachel Carson died in 1964, it was becoming clear that her voice would never be silenced. She had awakened not only the United States, but also the world. Her book was the start of the modern environmental movement. Even though Carson's book did have some influence - such as the banning of DDT in the United States - our environmental problems have grown worse, not better. Maybe the pace of environmental destruction has slowed, but that is not enough. Since the time "Silent Spring" was published, pesticide use on farms has doubled. In fact, the production of pesticides has increased by 400 persent. We have banned certain pesricides in our country, but we still produce them and export them to other countries. Rechel Carson, however, brought us back to a fundamental idea almost lost in modern civilization: human being and the natural environment are connected. Her book brought out one of the most important issues of our era. Her work and the science and research she inspired are not only powerful arguments for decreasing the use of pesticides, but also powerful proof of the difference that one person can make. よろしくお願いいたします。

There was a woman who was beautiful, who started with all the advantages yet she no luck. She married for love, and the love turned to dust. As part of a security alert issued last week to its members, the Air Line Pilots Association recommended new measures to deal with any terrorist threat — depressurizing the aircraft or making drastic maneuvers to keep hijackers off balance; protecting the cockpit at all costs, regardless of what is happening in the rest of the plane; installing a dead bolt on the otherwise flimsy cabin door and eventually developing an impenetrable, high-tech portal that can still open in the event of an accident; and using an emergency crash ax if necessary as a "potential defensive weapon." 和訳お願いします

It has no meaning, even though the very people whom we follow may say:“Study yourself”,because what we are,the world is. If we are petty,jealous,vain,greedy-that is what we create about us,that is the society in which we live. It seems to me that before we set out on a journey to find reality,to find God,before we can act, before we can have any relationship with another, which is society,it is essential that we begin to understand ourselves first. I consider the earnest person to be one who is completely concerned with this, first, and not with how to arrive at a particular goal, because, if you and I do not understand ourselves, how can we,in action, bring about a transformation in society,in relationship,in anything that we do? And it does not mean, obviously, that self-knowledge is opposed to,or isolated from, relationship. It does not mean, obviously, emphasis on the individual, the me,as opposed to the mass,as opposed to another.
Don't take too much comfort from these new measures. They won't necessarily fix what an industry expert calls the "dirty little secret of aviation." At its root is an inherent conflict of interest: profit-driven airlines are largely responsible for screening passengers. The more money and time they spend in that process, the less efficient and profitable they become. It's not that they strive to be lax, but security isn't their business. Last Thursday a Northwest Airlines flight crew in Phoenix, Ariz., deliberately got through security carrying a pocketknife and corkscrew, just to show how weak the system remains. 和訳お願いします

Can you imagine what the world would be like if we had nothing but water to drink? Our life would be very boring. A glass of cool water on a hot summer day is refreshing, to be sure. But we like other things to drink-tea, for example, when we are enjoying a conversation with close friends or reading a favorite book. As someone once said, "It you are cold, tea will warm you. If you are hot, it will cool you. If you are depressed, it will cheer you. If you are excited, it will calm you."
Most Americans, especially American man, place more emphasis on there need for independence and less on their need for social involvement. They pay less attention to the level of talk that comments on relationships, focusing instead on the information level. The attitude may go as far as the conviction that only the information level really counts. It is then a logical conclusion that talk not rich in information should be dispensed with.
英字新聞で難しいです(~o~) Renewed attention to the demands for justice in the Middle East is another outgrowth of the 9/11 tumult, whether those demands involve a settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict or efforts to end corruption and authoritarianism in the region. While we are no closer to solving these problems , the willingness to scrutinize the comfortable assumptions that guided thinking about international relations is an invaluable start. お願いします!!!!!
It was late at night that I heard Mari had had a trafficaccident.I hurried to the hospital. She was lying in bedwithout saying anything. The doctor told me there was verylittle chance of her recovery. The day broke.Mari's father and I checked her bag. He said,"Mari has a donor card." It was the first time I had seen one! Transplants! In a moment Mari's words came back to my mind and I could not hear him at all.
About a year before,my daughter Mari, then a second year student in high school, came to my room one night and said,"I want to tell you what I've decided to do.I'm going to have a donor card,Mom.If anything happens to me,I'll be glad to offer my organs for transplants. If you wish to remem-ber me,please think of those who will have my organs, for I'll live within them.I'll come to see you, Mom. I may be a person who says hello to you on the street, or a stranger who asks you the way.So be kind to them." It was a very serious conversation, but I would not listen to her seriously.I just said, "What are you talking about? All I need is you."
Mari had circled every organ on the card:heart, lung, liver, kidney, etc. She had signed her name herself.I told the doctor about the donor card.He said,"It's up to you. All the family members must agree before organ trans-plants."Mari's father said, "Give me some time."Mari's father and I were divorced when she was ten months old. I tord him what he didn’t know about her.I told him Mari was proud of him in her heart and his eyes filled with tears. A special treatment was given to Mari. The brain waves were my last hope.I continued to pray at the bedside.Four days after the accident the brain waves stopped. It was a little past eight. Mari's father put his hand softly on her chest and said,"You did your best,Mari.Rest in peace. I'll take you home."I touched her and kissed her on the cheek. She was warm. Her skin was pink. Was she dead? No,that was impossible!

We also have a special type of fraud that blooms at this time of the year when many people are on vacation and the offices are busy. They send out fake bills for something you haven't ordered and never received, or something that looks like just an ordinary bill e.g. an electricity-bill and hope that you won't notice and just pay.
I finished work in Japan at the end of September. My girlfriend flew in and joined me then. We spent the first day in Hakone (where we got engaged!), and then spent the rest of the week in the Kyoto area.
