「物質になぜ重さある？」　高エネ研などが仕組み検証


　高エネルギー加速器研究機構（茨城県つくば市）と京都大のチームは２４日、「物質にはなぜ
質量（重さ）があるのか」という問題に迫る理論の検証に成功した、と発表した。高エネ研の
スーパーコンピューターを使った成果だ。

　物質の質量はふつう天びんで測るが、「動きにくさ」でも決めることができる。動きにくいものほど
質量が大きく（重い）、動きやすいものほど質量は小さい（軽い）というわけだ。

　物質を構成する素粒子であるクォークは、現在は質量を持っているが、宇宙が誕生した１３７億
年前のビッグバン直後は質量を持たず、光の速度で自由に飛び回っていたとされている。

　ところが、その動きにブレーキをかける水あめのような仕組みがあって動きが鈍り、クォークは
質量を「獲得」したと考えられている。

　水あめのような仕組みとして、南部陽一郎・米シカゴ大名誉教授が６１年、「カイラル対称性の
自発的破れ」と呼ばれる理論を提案したが、膨大な計算が必要で検証は手つかずだった。

　高エネ研の橋本省二・准教授らは、スーパーコンピューターで約半年間かけ、クォークの振る舞い
を計算。その結果、南部氏提案の水あめのような仕組みの存在を示し、質量の獲得を裏付けた。

　物質の質量の起源は完全には解明されておらず、現代物理学の大きなテーマの一つだ。
水あめのもとに相当する「ヒッグス粒子」と呼ばれる素粒子の存在も理論的に予想されているが、
発見されていない。発見されれば、ノーベル賞級の成果といわれる。

Jobless rate falls to nine-year low of 4.1% --Kyodo News--

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate hit a nine-year low of 4.1 percent
in fiscal 2006, down from 4.3 percent the previous year, the government said Friday.


The unemployment rate fell for the fourth straight year after peaking at 5.4 percent
in fiscal 2002, reflecting a tightening in the labor market amid the longest economic
boom in the postwar era.

Also contributing was stronger demand for workers from the corporate sector as an
increasing number of baby boomers reached retirement age, the government said.

The rate is the lowest since fiscal 1997, when it was 3.5 percent.

In fiscal 2006, the number of people without jobs averaged 2.71 million per month,
down 180,000 from the previous year for the fourth consecutive yearly decline,
the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry said in a preliminary report.

Separate data from the Health, Labor and Welfare show the average ratio of job
offers to job seekers in fiscal 2006 rose 0.08 point from the previous year to 1.06.

The index means there were 106 job offers for every 100 job seekers.
It was the first time in 14 years that the index topped 1.0.

The monthly average number of job offers rose 3.4 percent from the
previous year, while the figure for job seekers dropped 4.4 percent.

Breaking down the jobless data, the internal affairs ministry said the
number of jobholders climbed by 240,000 to an average 63.89 million,
up for the fourth year.

The average unemployment rate for men came to a nine-year low of 4.2
percent in fiscal 2006, compared with 4.5 percent the previous year.

The average jobless rate for women was 3.9 percent, down 0.2 percentage
point and moving into the 3.0 percent level for the first time in nine
years on a fiscal-year basis.

By age, the average jobless rate for males aged 15 to 24 logged 8.9 percent
in fiscal 2006, the highest percentage among all categories, while that for
females in the same age bracket stood at 7.2 percent.

The figures, however, were down 0.7 point for men and 0.2 point for women
from fiscal 2005, the internal affairs ministry said.

On April twenty-fourth, rebels in eastern Ethiopia
attacked the chinese on oil exploration fields in the Ogaden area.
They killed sixty-five Ethiopian workers and nine chinese.
Seven other chinese were kidnapped but released.
The Ogaden National rebelation front took responsibility.
The group said the china did not appear to recognized the struggles
of the Somali people love Ogaden.
The rebels have been fighting the Ethiopian government
for more than twenty years.
They urged china to cease all coorporation with the government
in the area of oil exploration.
Some experts believe china may become more of a
target in Africa as expands involvement there.

はっきりいって早めに就職しといて正解でした。
いろんなことが勉強になります。
おそらく社会経験なしに就職はつらいでしょう。
