EEO Trust Work & Life Awards 2002 This year Treasury entered the EEO Trust Work & Life Awards as one of our Treasury-wide EEO initiatives.
The awards are for organisations that encourage their staff to have a balance between their work and their commitments outside of work. Fostering a supportive and responsive culture in the workplace is also an important part of the awards criteria. Entering the awards is a chance for us to see how we measure up against other organisations.
The awards ceremony was held in Auckland on 22 August 2002. The Treasury was runner-up in the Large Organisation category.
Lifelong Learning Trident Trust Work Experience Programme The Trident Trust Work Experience team is based at the Westbury Centre, and led by Myra MacCormick. Trident provides work experience placements for students at all 8 of the Borough's secondary schools, Trinity special school, the Tuition Centre, and students attending the FOCUS Programme at Barking College of Further Education. These placements are: For students in Key Stage 4 as part of their curriculum entitlement. These are normally in the form of a two-week block at the end of Year 10, or at the start of Year 11. For post-16 students following GNVQ, Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education, and 'A' Level courses. Again these are normally two weeks in length, and relate specifically to the students' advanced level courses Tailored placements for students with specific needs. These are with employers who will provide the appropriate levels of support and guidance for these young people. These placements may be for a day a week, spread over a term, or longer. The service that Trident provides encompasses all aspects of work experience, and includes: Identifying new company placements, and visiting the business to check on health and safety, and insurance arrangements. Matching students to the available opportunities. Providing all aspects of the paperwork needed by students, employers, teachers and funding organisations. Dealing with the numerous enquiries that arise from all associated parties. The demand for the services provided by Trident continues to grow on annual basis. Two years ago, just over 1600 students (Key Stage 4, post-16, tailored) were placed. This has grown to nearly 1900 and is expected to increase to 2200 students within the next three years.
Changing social arrangements have meant the Trust responsibilities of the PTO have been steadily declining for many years. With access to competent professional support readily available at reasonable rates to people across the whole social and geographical spectrum, the need for a Public Trustee to protect the assets of vulnerable members of the public does not exist to the extent that it did when the position was created at the beginning of the 20th century. Moreover, tax changes over the last twenty years have removed many of the financial advantages to be gained from creating family trusts.
The principle of moving away from the direct delivery of a specialist service by PTO staff to the provision of it by professionals under contract should be extended to Trust work. It is recommended that rather than have trustee work carried out by PTO staff, it should be allocated to local solicitors from an accredited or approved register, under appropriate contract arrangements, with fees based on the same principles as those proposed for Receivership work.

A Trust is an arrangement whereby one person (the Settlor) transfers his assets into the legal ownership of another person (the Trustee) for the benefit of a third person (the Beneficiary).
The Trustees are guided by the Settlor’s Letter of Wishes as to the administration of the trust assets both during the Settlor’s lifetime and after his/her death.
This Letter of Wishes can be changed or amended at any time, but without the need for formal execution as would be required in the case of a Will.
By use of the Letter of Wishes, the Settlor can be certain that his or her assets will pass completely intact to the chosen beneficiaries ?
without any deductions whatsoever without any third parties becoming aware of the assets without the necessity of passing through complicated probate procedures without any interference from either Governments or individuals without the costs, delays and procedures which might otherwise apply.
It is important to note that the Settlor is completely divested of legal ownership of the assets he or she may have put in the Trust, and must in no way be seen to have direct access to any of the assets held in trust.
Thus, all enquiries and requests for information or payments of trust assets must be routed as a suggestion to the Trustees.
The Trustees will consider these suggestions, and after exercising discretion, will make arrangements to carry out the transactions provided they are in the interest of the beneficiaries (which can include the Settlor) and are not unlawful.
Japanese and global economy continue to experience a severe turndown and turmoil in 2002, and many companies are facing difficult times. However, for TRUST WORK, it merely is providing opportunities to prove that its business is viable and profitable even under the most difficult circumstances. Simply put, TRUST WORK is experiencing another fruitful year in 2002, most thankful to our shareholders.
Thanks to our shareholders’ continuing support, we were able to successfully relocate our headquarters to a new site, conveniently located right above the Shinjuku San-chome station, in February 2002. All of our staff is now pushing forward as if we started anew, at this new beautiful building, to achieve a higher level of client satisfaction and to create more value for our shareholders.
TRUST WORK continues to leverage the "immense labor recruiting capability of daily wage payment" and "vigilant employment relationship through daily employment," based on its unique "work today, paid today" employment and daily bank-transfer System. This capability has enabled TRUST WORK to provide agile, high quality labor outsourcing services to our clients.
Our latest line of business, which we started last year, provides outsourcing service in customer care, data entry, and sales to the ever-expanding data and telecommunications industry. Our services are now highly regarded by the providers of ADSL, VoIP, and other data and telecommunication services. We have even dispatched 15 TRUST WORK employees to one of our clients to train and manage our daily staffs, providing high quality services unprecedented in the industry. Our commitment such as this has been evaluated highly by our clients.
We also established Trust Link Co., Ltd., a joint venture with Venture Link Co., Ltd., a renowned consulting and planning firm for franchise businesses last year. This year Trust Link became the franchisee of "Gin-no-Sara," a Sushi delivery franchise operated by Restaurant Express Co., Ltd., and has been experiencing a successful start since it opening in July. Trust Link has also become the franchisees of "Dan-chu," a Chinese restaurant chain operated by Tasco System Corporation, and "Gohei," a Japanese-style pub franchise developed by Y Ariiba, and is planning to open several new restaurants this year. TRUST WORK aims to acquire operational know-how of food-related business through these franchisee operations to effectively provide our outsourcing service to the franchisers and other franchisees in the restaurant industry.
Group dynamics: class I consisted of thirteen 14-15 year olds who will leave school in 1989. They initially displayed a low aptitude for teamwork, and decision-making was left to one individual who was the group leader. Questions were rarely asked, and communication with staff was hardly ever initiated. Answers were generally monosyllabic, and expressive output was extremely limited. Their learning environment was sympathetic; staff-initiated questions tended to be open-ended. Hitherto, there had been no specific structured input on functional communication.
Social skills input: After preparatory work on the perception of non-verbal communication, intensive work was done to build the dynamics of the group using trustwork, team games, eye contact and listening skills. The subject of asking and answering questions was discussed and practised at varying levels of difficulty, using peers, members of staff and unknown members of the public brought into the school. Work on descriptive oral communication provided a parallel to these activities, culminating with each member giving a two minute talk on a chosen topic to the rest of the group at the end of the first term.
Telephone skills were analysed and directed using role play with peers and staff, including phoning out and answering calls; the class was evenly divided as to which was the hardest. Similarly, initiating and conducting conversations was worked on, leading on to levels of communication, and how communication varies according to whom we are with, and the context of the interchange. This was a very useful aspect of the work on social skills, particularly if we follow the line of thought that individuals crave to embody not just one, but a variety of roles throughout life, and that it is important we allow these roles to be experienced

We believe our business poses a social significance in today's Japanese society where the relationship between the employer and employees is drastically changing. Most recently, our business is attracting attention as the provider of side-job and short-term temporary work for laid off workers, and we firmly believe we are moving with and driving the times. Therefore, we confidently believe in, and are fully committed to, TRUST WORK’s continuous growth and profitability.
