Some studies suggested that there are about 1 million adolescent patients who are in socially withdrawal state without any psychosis in Japan.

This state is commonly called `Hikikomori'.
Hikikomori is not diagnosis or clinical entity.
It's a kind of state which including many non-patholosical cases, yet in many cases, social withdrawal states are prolonged for many years. My difinition of Hikikomori are as follows.

Before beginning treatment of Hikikomori cases, we should exclude other diagnosis, like schizophrenia, social phobia, and avoidant personality disorder.

But, many kind of psychotic symptoms are often caused from prolonged Hikikomori state.
These symptoms are as follows:

Anthrophobia,fear of self-smelling,fear of eye-to-eye confrontation,dysmorphophobia,obsessive-compulsive symptom,hypochondria,insomnia,domestic violence,depressive mood,suicide attempt. I think these symptoms are secondary generated from Hikikomori state.
