I'm still trying to overcome my shyness. I really, really don't want to make a video where I just talk and talk about nothing important. If I'm not going to say something interesting, I figure it's better to put nice images together creatively than just sit in one spot and move my face...
I have made several test videos, but they are bad. I really freeze up. I'll keep trying, so don't give up on me... ~_~
>>36 You don't have to say anything important to make people smile. They will like you even more if you stutter when you speak, I promise. Just say hello to us. Please. Thanks!
Today is a very special day for not only me but millions of us in Japan. It's the 12th anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. 17 Jan.1995,at 5:46am the disaster struck and it took away more than 6000 people's lives Fortunately, my apartment was in a habitable state and I could get through the hard time. However,it changed my life forever.
Hi How much number of channels of the television is there? In Japan, there are seven channels. There is an innumerable channel in satelite broadcasting. It costs the charge to satelite broadcasting. The United States program can be seen. It is Discovery Channel, Animal Planet , news, a drama, a movie, and it is Disney, etc.
>>191 I'm not sure. There are many I like but... Johnny Depp is really great. ☆☆ >>193 It hasn't been that long. lol^_^ I'm OK though, and you? >>193 本当においしい! \^o^/
>>195 At my house, we have about 100 channels. It is possible to buy more channels. Many of the channels are things like really old reruns and sports sports sports. But, there are about 10 channels I like. Do you like any American shows? >>196 いろいろな方法が、いつものようにあります。
>>197 Is each of the one channel bought? Seven channels are free in Japan. A lot of other channels are charged. I see news for the study of English. However, it is very difficult to catch English.
I love movie. The work of the movie director who is called a great master is chiefly seen. The silent picture such as Griffith who are the supervisors with great Genesis is seen.
>>199 It is cute! Haha, I'm getting into it. >>200 For us, one price is paid for about 100 channels, internet, and telephone. Then, more channels and accessories can be bought. >>201 I saw an interview of Mari Yaguchi and Johnny Depp. Also, I saw another Japanese interview of Johnny Depp. He seems to like Japan, because he was happy and polite. (^O^)/ Some Western stars act all wrong in a Japanese interview, I think. It's a little embarassing. (;´・`) Which five movies did you see? >>202 I don't think so. Maybe. I think it will be about something else, but we won't know until around 2008.
To Magirin: Being able to speak Japanese seems to arouse the concern of cool guys in Japan. The power of the thread of the American who can speak Japanese is rising.
I read your interview with a magazine. I seem to you don't like a vegetables...
Magibon Let me tell you about myself...a little bit
I loved one foreign girl, and Marriage with her at 1997 we still Really Really love Each other, but I'm a Japanese an'I love Beef, and she is hindi and she is a vegetarian.
then I become a vegetarian.Because I love her...
so this is my question, If your lover was a vegetarian, what will you do?
>>289 Costing money to return the shirt that the shop has sent by mistake is angry thing. That is impatient of you. The shop is a useless shop.
焦れったいのよ"IRETTAI NOYO"This is a little funny. irritation イライラするわ"IRAIRA SURU WA"might be better. impatient やきもきさせるわ"YAKIMOKI SASERU WA"might be better too.
"NOYO" is woman's word. Because it is lovely atmosphere, the respect matches to you.
>>307 I think poems or song lyrics are difficult to understand for learners. And we seldom use those expressions in everyday lives. Memorizing a lot of conventional phrases is more efficient way to learn, as always.
I read your article on Windows 100% today like others do in 2ch thread. I understand overview of what kind of questions you are asked. Some of the questions are too personal and I imagine it must have been kind of tough to answer them.
No offence meant but I kind of laughed when I found out that your translation of Colonel Sanders is サンダー大佐^_^ Translation software seemed to have taken that his first name as the position of military force.
You said his life-size figure is funny or something like that... I remember showing you the link of him where you can see he wears Santa Clause outfit and all that in English board's thread. If your comment is based on the link Iintroduced, I am kind of happy.
I am a chicken and don't have guts to upload my video blog and all. I have nothing to say in a video, either so I just enjoy watching people overseas speaking Japanese and all.
I sent almost the same message through youtube account but I am not sure sending messages function is working properly, I posted here, too. Anyway, have a nice day. ^^
How many copies of Harry Potter did you read, Magibon?
One or two or three? of them is as thick as dictionary. My joe dropped when I know that kids read it overnight. orz... It'd take a month or two for me to read it from cover to cover.
>>343 私は、私が食べると思います...ホットドッグ?多分(^O^)/ >>344 ?? Colonel Sanders is a military man! "Colonel" isn't a name. It is 大佐. Is it not the same in Japan? >>346 I never read Harry Potter. I only watched the movies. Kids really do read those books quickly. Maybe they are easy to read? I don't know, because I didn't read them. >_< I really enjoyed the movies, though. ^__^ >>347>>348 My sister wants to buy the shirt from me. So, I will spend the money at a different store. Because, the first store pissed me off!
Oh? o...rz I was mistaken. I thought it is his given name. We never ever say サンダー大佐 in Japanese. We say カーネルサンダース I guess almost all Japanese people think Colonel is his first name and Sanders is his family name.
>>355 I thought Colonel was his first name too. I have been learning a lot of things from Magibon's threads. Is there anything else you think we might be misunderstanding?
I have just read your article in Windows100% and there are a few things I don't get. I know there is Japanese version of the interview, but as you probably see, their translation is far from good.
Your answer to #15: > "We promise according to our hopes and perform according to our fears." > We should do our best to keep promises so we don't let down the ones we love. I don't understand this part. How does the phrase turn into your description?
#21 > 5.Must try to be a goo A goo? There has to be something missing.
#45 > These people don't make any money, and Japanese companies don't lose m "m" as in money? Could you fill the rest of this paragraph too?
#66 > Songs with an exotic flai. What is a flai?
#79 > ..and I found out people in Japan are watching me, I t Another missing sentence. Please fill the rest. They really need a better editor. Sorry..
>>385 #15: People make big promises, but then they give up and don't keep their promises. I think we should try to keep our promises, even if it is really difficult.
The rest are typos. #21.5: Must try to be a good person. #45 Japanese companies don't lose money because Americans wouldn't buy the DVDs anyway, since they would be useless for us. Furthermore, if Japanese companies allow foreigners to watch the entertainment, a fanbase will grow and they can sell things to us someday. As for music, I buy Japanese music that is available in America. But, if I couldn't hear the music online first, I wouldn't know what to buy, because Japanese music is mostly sold online as imports. An imported CD is too expensive to buy if I don't know I will like it. #66 Should be "flair." #79 I thought it was amazing. Computers really make a planet smaller!
>>385>>391 Please don't hold it against the editor. He rushed because he wanted my interview to be in the 100th issue. I'm really grateful. ^_^
>390 I am trying to get better at talking, but maybe I should make a short non-talking video in the meantime...?
Magi,Please come to Kyoto. It is certainly high to come by sightseeing. However, the local knows a cheap method. I guide you if the convenience at time is suitable. To shop and to see beautiful scenery, I will guide you.
I want to make a video speaking Japanese. I was thinking about anwering common questions I get. For example, "Are you part Asian?" and "Are you really 20?" But, my Japanese is so terrible. Will I be laughed at? I think Americans will definitely insult my "yaeba." T_T
>>546 That's a good idea. People has been asking you the same questions over and over.
> I think Americans will definitely insult my "yaeba." I thought you were immune to those kind of comments. Believe me, your yaeba is super cute. (Did you say "super" sounds somewhat gay in the other thread?)
>>545のほうから I want you to sing this song to magibon. これだと「マギボンに向かって歌って欲しい」ということになるのでto以降は不要 I want to you to sing this song.でいいけど、丁寧に言いたいなら I would like you to sing this song.のほうがいいね
This bathing suit is good.だと、感覚としては 「これ私も持ってるけどいいわよ」的なところがあるので あくまで写真を見た男の意見としてなら This bathing suit looks good.とかのほうがいいね 勿論、good以外に使いたい形容詞があればそれを 「似合うだろうなぁ」って感じなら You would look great in this bikini.とかね
>>560のは If 100 Japanese see Magibon, 99 people will think her to be lovely. で 「to be 〜」だと「(これから先)〜になって」と未来の話になってしまう willが使われているけど、ここではあくまで仮定のIfをうけてのことだから もう少し自然な文に直すと If a 100 Japanese guys see Magibon, 99 of them will think she is lovely. thinkの後はthat節のthatを省略した形ね あくまでマギボンに話しかけてる感じを出したければ 「she is」を「you are」にすればいい
>>546 I want to know your favorite quote more. Because your quote is great. "We promise according to our hopes and perform according to our fears." I looked up the quote in the internet and found a meaning. It's says that hope and fear are inseparable. I think this is true. Because if we overcome our fears, we will be able to get new prospects for the future. This is really encouraging. I think you can be a good teacher.
>>597 Hey, Magibon, you are right in the middle of making sentences for self-introduction, aren't you? ^_~
Well, anyway, let me answer your question. When you pronounce 20 alone, as you say, nijuu(にじゅう) is right but when you add sai, you pronounce, like にじゅっさい.
One more thing. More common way to say 20 years old than にじゅっさい is hatachi, はたち. As you notice, sai is gone. I guess it looks kind of tricky for learners.
Conclusion: にじゅうさい is totally wrong. にじゅっさい is acceptable and はたちis most common.
"Yaeba", 八重歯 in kanji, is considered as the symbol of cuteness of a girl in Japan. Some Japanese idols have 八重歯 and they are proud of them. Therefore, you don't have to worry about showing your 八重歯 to us.
>>687 I watched your video now. ^_^ You look nervous in the video. I can imagine how embarrassing it is to talk to camera.
As everybody here says, you did a good job. Your Japanese is good enough. As a learner of English, someday I want to listent to you speak in video in English as someone already suggested. Please take that into consideration.

Hi magi. I have read your interview. I don't smoke or drink alcohol and don't like noisy place. I'm glad I found some resemblances to you. I'm looking forward to watching your new video.
>>877 It's a picture drawn with characters and symbols as you know. He wants Ascii Art artists to create a likeness or something like that of you. Of course, good looking one.
Nobody has answered my question posted on the English board because you haven't come there for over 1 month. I'll ask you the same question here. Please teach me, Magibon.
Is this sentence correct?
The building is located at 2km off of the Tokyo station.
Should I say like this.
The building is located at 2km away from the Tokyo station.
>>884 They both sound good! I think I like the first one better. Or, This building is location 2km away from the Tokyo Station. ^ I would probably word it that way if I were just speaking naturally.
>>880 Oh, I missed it, sorry. If it's nothing bad, it's ok. >>892 I haven't seen it. If it's bad Japanese, please don't ask me to watch, because I might get messed up. '-.-
>>897 I wrote it, but I didn't mean it in a negative way. I don't know what video was being talked about. If it has incorrect Japanese, I might learn the wrong thing. You know?
