LAMEコマンドラインオプションを語れ！

事実をまとめておこう。

1. LAME 3.90-3.96.1 のどのバージョンにおいても -q0,1 で音質が有意に改善されると
いう証拠は存在しない。

2. -q0 オプションを付けるとエンコードはかなり遅くなる。特に LAME 3.96.1 では
--preset standard よりも --preset standard -q0 は4倍程度遅くなり、
--preset cbr 192 よりも --preset cbr 192 -q0 は6倍程度遅くなる。
（環境によってこの数字に差がある。）

3. LAME 3.96.1 で --preset cbr xxx -q0,1 を使うと音質が劣化する場合がある。
たとえば spellbound、eb_andul_short、など。

4. その12の725では -q0 に --substep2 を追加すればバグが回避できそうな気がする
という話が出ており、730には有益な情報だとお礼を述べている人がいる。
しかし、LAME 3.96.1 で実際に試してみると、エンコード結果は
--preset standard -q0 --substep2 = --preset standard -q0 でかつ
--preset cbr 192 -q0 --substep2 = --preset cbr 192 -q0 となる。
つまり --substep2 を付けても無意味である。この事実はその12の764で指摘されている。

5. 2005年2月9日にGabriel氏は次のように述べている。
"A bug regarding -q0 and -q1 has been recently identified and corrected in 3.97 alphas.
3.94-3.96.1 were affected by this problem. Regarding 3.90.3, I do not remember as it is too old."

6. さらに LAME の History の LAME 3.97 alpha (CVS) の項目には
赤字で "Reworked -q1 and -q0" と書いてある。
赤字の意味は "red = features and bug fixes which affect quality"

7. 2003年4月20日にJohnV氏は次のように述べている。
"Takehiro has confirmed that the -q0 code in 3.90 - 3.93.1 is buggy."
