Search for whaler off　落ちた捕鯨者の捜索

A Japanese whaler is missing in the Southern Ocean, presumed drowned.
日本の捕鯨者が南大洋で行方不明となっており、溺れたと推定されている。
The 31-year-old crewman was noticed missing from the Kyoshin Maru No 2 at 7.30am yesterday.
31歳の乗組員が第２共進丸から昨日午前7時30分に見失われたと伝えられている。
The New Zealand Rescue Coordination Centre was alerted by the Japanese Coastguard at midday.
ニュージーランド救助コーディネイション・センターは正午に日本の海上保安庁から警報を受けた。
Search and rescue officer Mike Roberts said a search by the whaling fleet was suspended after it was decided there was no hope.
探査、救助士官マイク・ロバーツによると、捕鯨専断による探査は、望みが無いと決定された後中止された。
"The missing man was only wearing overalls when he went into the water.
The water temperature was about zero degrees celsius and there was a four-metre swell.
The maximum survival time in those conditions is an hour."
「行方不明の人物が水に入った時に着ていたのはオーバーオールだけである。
水温は約０°cであり４メートルの大波があった。この状態で最長生存時間は１時間である。」

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully said New Zealand's search and rescue capability in the area was very limited.
マレー・マカリー外相はニュージーランドのこの海域での捜索、救助キャパシティーは非常に限られていると述べた。
Mr Roberts said an Orion would have taken 10 hours to get to the search area.
ロバーツは、オライオン（航空機）が捜索海域へ達するには10時間かかるだろうと言った。
The incident drew criticism from whaling protest ship Steve Irwin, with captain Paul Watson saying
it would have helped search for the missing man but was not asked.
この事故は捕鯨抗議船スティーブ・アーウィンからの批判を招いた。船長ポール・ワトソンは
行方不明者の捜索を助けたであろうけれど、その要請は無かったと語った。
