SOUTH KOREA WINS CHAMPIONSHIP IN CHEMISTRY OLYMPIAD

Taipei, July 24 (CNA) Taiwan students won two gold medals and two silvers in the 37th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) which concluded in Taipei Sunday.
The Taiwan team ranked fifth in the annual international chemistry competition of secondary school students, falling behind South Korea, Vietnam, Iran and Russia. Taiwan ranked seventh in last year's chemistry Olympiad.
South Korea won four gold medals, making it the top prize winner in the 2005 IChO, while Vietnam came in second by winning three golds and one silver. Iran, Russian and Taiwan had same medal count, with two golds and two silvers, but they ranked third, fourth and fifth in that order.
The event drew the participation of 225 students from 59 countries around the world. A total of 26 gold medals, 48 silvers and 79 bronzes were presented in honor of outstanding contestants.
