1252 For, the more frequently one contemplates these pictorial representations, the more gladly will one be led to remember the original subject whom they represent, the more too will one be drawn to it and inclined to give it [...] a respectful veneration (proskunêsis, adoratio), which, however, is not the true adoration (latria, latreia) which, according to our faith, is due to God alone.

But, as is done for the image of the revered and life-giving cross and the holy Gospels and other sacred objects and monuments, let an oblation of incense and light be made to give honour to those images according to the pious custom of the ancients.
