Inter captain Javier Zanetti admits that he is ready to leave Inter at the end of the season if the club chiefs ask him to.
The club icon is currently playing his 17th season for the club, but his playing career appears to be drawing to a close.
The 38-year-old is aware that the Neroazzurri have failed to meet the expectations this season and he is ready to leave Giuseppe Meazza in the summer so as to make room for new players.
“I will play against Juventus as if it were the last game. After seven seasons I will not lift a trophy and an era is ending for Inter, but it’s not true what some say that we don’t care about that,” Zanetti said to La Repubblica.
“If Inter ask me to, then I’ll step aside in June and will not hesitate to obey. I would like to stay in an important role within the club, though.”
The veteran defender is still considered an important part of the starting line-up, but with the squad set to undergo some major rebuilding in the summer, his place is no longer safe.
That means that Zanetti could leave the club after 17 years and more than 790 official appearances for the Neroazzurri.
The Argentine has been virtually ever present for Inter this season, having spent every minute on the pitch in 27 Serie A games, missing only one league fixture.
