Fujitsu launches retail SSD's in APAC January 31 2012
As one of the many companies to have recently pulled out of the hard drive business, Fujitsu hasn't made any real inroads into the SSD market, although this looks set to change with the introduction of a new series of SSD's in the retail market. For the time being it appears the new SSD's are only available in the APAC region and we don't have any details with regards to wider availability.
What we're looking at is a pair of SandForce SF-2281 powered SSD's with a capacity of either 120 or 240GB using Micron MLC NAND flash. Fujitsu claims read speeds of up to 550MB/s or 55,000 IOPS and write speeds of up to 520MB/s (500MB/s for the 120GB model) or 40,000 IOPS putting its new models up there with the best SandForce models in the market. Fujitsu doesn't seem to have bothered with a fancy marketing name, instead there's only a model code for the new drives which is HLACC2031A-G1 which isn't exactly a memorable model name.
Price wise we've found the 120GB retailing for AU$189 (S$252/US$200) with the 240GB coming in at AU$399 (S$530/US$420) which at least compares well with prices for other SSD's from the same retailers. We've also found the drives for sale at slightly higher pricing in both Taiwan and Hong Kong and we'd expect availability in other countries in the APAC region as well. With the drives only just hitting retail we'll have to wait and see how they perform, but we did find a quick video preview on YouTube which you can find below.
