A highway near Sacramento was closed after thousands of onions spilled from a truck and caused watery eyes among witnesses and police, authorities said.
Police said the big rig truck was traveling north on Highway 65 Thursday evening when the driver tried to maneuver around a curve, lost control and went through the median. The vehicle overturned and crashed into the southbound lanes, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The spilled onions and their strong smell closed the highway for several hours, authorities said.
The truck driver was taken to a local hospital but there was no report on his condition, the Times said.
