The First "47 Ronin" Photos with Keanu Reeves, Jin Akanishi
Believe it or not, I liked The Last Samurai. Yeah,it's kinda silly that Tom Cruise (of all people) gets to do surprisingly well-choreographed kenjutsu and jujutsu with the likes of Ken Watanabe and Hiroyuki Sanada,
but it's still a fun and rousing epic action movie.
It looks like the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of the legend of the 47 Ronin,
famously adapted to film in Hiroshi Inagaki's Chushingura, is on the same track.
Keanu Reeves plays half-Japanese/half-British outcast Kai, a character created specifically for the film.
Hiroyuki Sanada, the guy who smashed Tom Cruise's skull with a bokken in The Last Samurai,is Oishi, the leader of the 47 disgraced ronin,
with Thor and Gohatto/Taboo star Tadanobu Asano as the villainous Lord Kira.
Kou Shibasaki, Rinko Kikuchi, and pop sensation Jin Akanishi round out the principal cast of the film.
I'd like to see more--the costuming's pretty good.
At least Keanu and Sanada have a fair bit of martial arts experience,
although I was wondering why they couldn't go for a retelling instead of a remake, like Last Man Standing or Ironclad.
What do you think?
