タイポしたらスマソ。要するに「カード詐欺防止のために郵便番号チェックするよ」
ってこと。

Dear Valued Chevron Customer:
In an ongoing effort to provide our customers with excellent service and to minimize credit
card related fraud activities, Chevron has implemented Address Verificaion System(AVS).

AVS is fraud reduction program used by Visa, MasterCard, American Express and
Discover Card.

After inserting your card at the pump, you are prompted to enter your 5 digit billing Zip
code. We then transmit the Zip code you typed in along with our nomal authorication
request to your credit card issuer. The credit card issuer verifies whether or not the Zip
code matches what it has on file as your billing Zip code. A match reduces the likelihood
the card is being used fraudulently.

This program is not designed for use as a marketing tool, and the Zip code is not stored
anywhere by Chevron or used for any purpose other than as a fraud deterrent.

If you are experiencing a problem because the credit card issuer is not authorizing the Zip
code your typed in, please contact the credit card issuer to verify that your billing address
information is correct.
