Hatoyama Pledges Focus on Economy SEPTEMBER 25, 2009
鳩山首相は演説で経済政策に焦点を当てると約束 WSJ、26日

That G-20 plan would be in line with the goals of the Hatoyama administration, which came to power a week ago
promising to generate more of the country's economic growth domestically rather than from exports.
But it could also place a heavy burden on the Japanese economy, which is yet to be weaned from its dependence on
exports. It's still far from clear how effective the new, untested government's economic policy plans would be in lifting
the country's stagnant domestic demand. Some analysts wonder whether consumers might save rather than spend the
extra cash from the new government's measures, and there are also questions about how Japan will finance the steps
at a time when its finances are in tatters.

Mr. Hatoyama said in an address to the United Nations' General Assembly, en route to the G-20 summit meeting, that
Japan needs to revitalize its own economy. "By reviewing economic policies through this change of power, Japan is
sending a clear signal of the forthcoming revival of its economy," he said.
鳩山首相は政権交代に伴う経済政策の刷新によって経済を再活性化させると語っている。

Mr. Hatoyama said the new Democratic Party of Japan administration's signature economic policy plans would not only
help increase consumer spending but also help resolve the country's nagging structural problems, such as Japan's low
birth rate and the high cost structure of the corporate sector.
首相は民主党の政策が消費者の消費拡大、少子化問題、企業の高コスト構造などを解決すべく策定されているという。
The annual 5.5 trillion yen, or around $60 billion, to be set aside as subsidies for families with children will help stimulate
consumption, while also representing an investment in education and helping to address the country's low birth rate,
Mr. Hatoyama said.
子供手当ての為に5.5兆円を準備して消費を活性化し教育費を支援することが少子化問題の解決に資するという。
