Kashima Antlers coach Oswaldo Oliveira would be delighted to succeed Takeshi Okada as the next Japan coach, should he be offered the position.
The Japan Football Association (JFA) are determined to appoint an overseas coach but have so far been frustrated in their search.
JFA technical director Hiromi Hara has confirmed negotiations with three candidates are ongoing but should they continue for much longer without progress he will be forced to look elsewhere. I love Japan. I love to stay here. I want to stay here, and I would love to have the national team. Oswaldo Oliviera, Kashima Antlers coach
Oliveira has led Kashima to an unprecedented three straight J.League titles since taking over the club in 2007 but would be happy to take the Japan job should the opportunity arise.
"I know soccer in Japan very well. If I want it? Yes - if they invite me. Of course I will accept," the 59-year-old said.
