Warner: Weak Economy Pushed Us to Blu-ray
The studio explains why it endorsed Blu-ray over HD DVD
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (January 8, 2008) -- Warner Bros. says it decided to endorse
Blu-ray over HD DVD because of a weakening U.S. economy and declining
DVD sales.
That's according to an article by Reuters.
Warner stunned the industry last Friday when it announced that it would support
Blu-ray exclusively in the high-def disc format war against HD DVD.
Until then, Warner released movies in both formats. But starting in May, the
studio will only issue films in Blu-ray.
In an interview with Reuters, Kevin Tsujihara, Warner's entertainment group
president, said the studio was becoming concerned that the slowing U.S.
economy would further depress DVD sales. Some economists have predicted a
recession in 2008.
