Japan Considers Legalizing Dual Nationality
http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200811/200811190009.html Japan’s Nihon Keizai Shimbun reportedly said Tuesday that the Liberal Democratic
Party is considering validating dual nationalities in order to promote a resurgence
of intellectualism. The ruling party has begun to revise the law that prevents the
holding of dual nationalities, while discussions continue.
Act 11 of Japan’s current law prevents dual nationalities. Japanese who hold dual
nationalities must choose either territory until they reach the age of 22.
After Yoichiro Nambu, an emeritus professor at the University of Chicago who won
the Nobel Prize in Physics, previously dumped his Japanese nationality in favor
of U.S. citizenship, consensus began building that dual nationality will eventually
benefit Japan.
