Ever since Psy’s irresistible hit “Gangnam Style” went from viral to platinum, all eyes have been on the East and the mesmerizing sounds of K-pop. If you head a little further east, though, you will reach the land of J-pop― Japan’s alluring addition to the pop music spectrum. Though the techno-pop girl trio Perfume started out as a traditional J-Pop group in 2000 with adorably synchronized dance routines and photo-op ready looks, they have evolved into the technologically driven pop group of William Gibson’s dreams, incorporating wild graphics, 3D technology and fully interactive CG into their shows.
Universal Music Group signed the group earlier this year, and Perfume is about to kick off their first ever world tour. While you should certainly see Perfume in concert, beware: Bieber Fever has nothing on Perfume’s legions of obsessed fans.
