2003前期第一問、渡辺一夫「書籍について」。

1.しかし、半分慰めになるような、あるいは、さらに僕を悲観させかねないような、
一つの人間的事実が読書には介在するもののようである。
But there seems to be an actual human nature in reading that might
relieve me but also get (me) even more discouraged.

介在する事実＝factor
人間的factor=human factor
安全工学の文脈（航空機事故など）でヒューマンファクターという言い方をします。　
つまり機械やコンピュータ、物理的・化学的な作用に対比しての概念がhuman。
人によって違う、属人的な、という意味まで踏み込んだ文脈ならpersonal factor。

私の答案
But there seems to be a human factor in reading that might be somewhat
relieving or rather discouraging for me.

2.譬えて言ってみれば、書籍と申すものは、不可思議な現像液のようなものであって、
読者各自の精神の種版にあらかじめ写しおかれた影像を現像してくれるものなのだろう。
It can be said that books are kinds of the magical photographic developers
which can develop the images that are formed on the nagative plate in each
reader's mind beforehand.

よく書けていると思います。negativeの綴りに注意。

私の答案
Analogically speaking, books are served as a kind of photographic developer
which develops latent [potential] images on a negative plate in the reader's
mind.

3.つまり、作者が現象液に予定しなかったような作用を有能な読者はその現像液をして
行わしめるという意味であろう。
He seems to have meant that brilliant readers can make that developer have
the different effect that the writer doesn't expect.

よく書けていると思います。Canの替わりにcouldにすれば「有能な読者であれば」という
条件の意味を表すことができる。

私の答案
He seems to have meant that, when read by bright readers, the developer
could produce some effect beyond the writer’s expectation.

接続詞thatの中身は、所詮は誰かの主観ではあるので、それが一般法則に係るものか
過去の事実認定に係るものかで時制を使い分ける。本問の場合は「一般法則に係る
個人的見解」なので時制の一致は不要と考えられますが、couldを使うことでその論点
を目に付きにくく処理してしまいました。
時制に不安がある場合は、二重の節構造は極力回避。

あ〜、factorですか、そういえば聞きますねhuman factorて、なるほど。

Analogically speaking ありました、そういの。　ナガティヴて。。。　orz

couldいいですね。本番ではなるべく回避、と
