ビジュアル英文解釈の43番目(p.349)の最後の文です。

>　Adult standards have been imposed upon him

「impose [adult standards] upon him(=the child)」
「大人の基準をその子に押しつける」
　　　　　　　　　↓
　　　　　　　　受動態に
　　　　　　　　　↓
「Adult standards is imposed upon him」
「大人の基準がその子に押しつけられている。」

これが更に、現在完了(継続用法)になってます。

>　with too great an effect

「with effect：　効果的に、力強く」
の「effect」に「great」が加わったために「with a great effect」になり、
ここに更に「too」が加わったために「with too great a effect」になりました。

「副詞句」として「imposed」を修飾している語句です。


>　and to the detriment of his whole life.

「to the detriment of 〜：　〜を損ねるほどに」という意味です。

「and」がヒントになりますが、
「imposed」←(「with effect」and「to the detriment of 〜」)
ですから、やはり「imposed」を修飾している「副詞句」です。
