Thank you for your email regarding our Atlas Update website and Sea of Japan
(East Sea). We recognize that Sea of Japan is the preferred international name,
and it is shown in larger type. However, we recognize that the Koreans prefer an
alternate name, "East Sea," and so we show this in parenthesis. We made this
change only after careful consideration. We consulted with our Japanese partners
that publish National Geographic magazine in Japanese
(nng.nikkeibp.co.jp/nng/index.html) and our Korean partners publishing National
Geographic in Korean (www.ybmsisa.co.kr/ng/index.asp).
