When have textbooks not been biased? Look at Christopher Columbus, some countries praise him while some despise him. The state of Texas creates its own textbooks that play down the theory of evolution. There are countless other examples. It is the same with Japan and China they create textbooks to reflect their national interest and pride. I feel the reaction is completely out of control. Christopher Southerlin, Anchorage, AK, US
The Chinese have a valid point. Japan did commit war crimes atrocities during World War II. However, the war has been over for 60 years. Japan is no longer the same militaristic country that it was in WWII anymore than Germany is. While it's wrong for Japan to whitewash its history, it's equally wrong for China to nurture old hatreds against the Japanese. The Japanese should acknowledge their WWII history and the Chinese should acknowledge Japan's peaceful progress since WWII. Greg, Philadelphia, USA
I am so appalled to read the comments that Chinese has got no right for justice because of the government's history. This is the same as saying that if the parent is abusive, then the kid cannot ask for justice from the neighbour who had attacked and raped her/him. Leslie, Toronto, Canada
AP: Tongue Operations Popular in Korea for English Education
Associated Press(AP) reported Friday that Korean mothers, in the midst of a craze to have their young children learn English, have recently begun sending their children for tongue operations to improve their English skill.
The operation, during which the thin membranes beneath the tough are sliced so that the tongue is lengthened and can move quicker, has grown in popularity. This has made the government so uncomfortable that it even made a movie to combat the practice. In the movie made by the Korean Human Rights Commission, a young mother who is having a hard time preparing her children for a Christmas time English play at their kindergarten brings them to hospital for a quick fix.
Once there, the movie shows a little boy screaming, holding on to the nurse, and says !° This is for your child!¯s future.!± The operation, which is used in the West to correct speech defects, takes about 20 or 30 minutes.
There are no statistics that show how many young children get this operation in Korea, but Korean media report that in the wealthy neighborhoods of Seoul, the procedure has become widespread.
> China did not kill the Japanese POWs. > They were sent back to Japan after the war.
CCP sent these POWs to brainwashing camp to convert communists and returned to Japan. (They later testified whatever the way CCP wanted.) These who did not convert to communist were killed.
> Rape of Nanjing, etc.
It is CCP's propaganda. Poor chinese believe wahtever CCP says. They believed Mao during the cultural revolution and killed well educated Chinese people and burned, destroyed thousands of historycal monuments, temples, arts, etc. that worth billions dollars if priced in current value. They have no honor to own their culture either. Lost culture never returns. lol
This whole analogy with the Jews is quite far-fetched, the Jews were minorities in Europe without their own country and without army.
China was a huge country with enormous population that time as well, much bigger than Japan and Chine had 2 armies: the ChiCom army and the Guomintang army.
After WWII Japan was/is being a peaceful nation, but China created some new problems for herself: Cultural Revolution/The Great Famine of China/ The Tiananmen massacre are totally Chinese products.
China is facing trade war with USA/EU, possible war with Taiwan, has permanent tensions with Japan about stuff in WWII, because China doesn't care the 19 (!) apologies of Japan, the ODA compensations and about the fact t hat Japan is very interested in Chinese culture, for example: http://www.albany.edu/eas/205/morohashi.pdf
This is hardly a reliable source as the person making the page has not backed up any of his claims in anyway, nor can it be reliably assumed to unbiassed.
Asian continent didn't have feudal system like Japan(except the ancient age of China) during medieval age, the political system of Korea had stopped at Heian period of Japan(10th century) belonging to China till Sino-Japan war finished in 1895.

CRIME: Although the crime rate in the Republic of Korea is low, there is a higher incidence of pickpocketing, purse snatching, assaults, hotel room burglaries, and residential crime in major metropolitan areas, such as Seoul and Busan, than elsewhere in Korea. U.S. citizens are more likely to be targeted in known tourist areas, like Itaewon and other large market areas. Incidents of rape have been reported in popular nightlife districts in Seoul. http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1018.html
China is the cancer of the world and will invade Australia.
Genocide and human rights Since 1950, an estimated 1.2 million Tibetans have been killed by the Chinese. China has ratified a number of UN conventions, including those related to torture and racial discrimination, and yet has repeatedly violated these in China and Tibet.
Education Chinese has replaced Tibetan as the official language. Young Tibetans are being re-educated about their cultural past, with references to an independent Tibet being omitted.
Lack of religious freedom The 1982 Constitution of the People's Republic of China guarantees freedom of religious belief, but China seeks to restrict the numbers of monks and nuns entering monasteries and to discredit the religious authority of Dalai Lama. The child recognised as the reincarnation of the Panchen Lama was rejected and the Chinese installed their own candidate.
Resource exploitation China's predominant interest in Tibet is no longer ideological, but is based on resource extraction and land for Chinese colonists. Mining and mineral extraction is the largest economic activity in both U'Tsang and Amdo and at least one-half of Tibet's natural forest has gone since Chinese occupation.
Chinese migration Long-term Chinese settlement in Tibet has been deliberately encouraged, with the result that Tibetans are in the minority in many areas. Independent research puts the number of Chinese in the TAR at 5 - 5.5 million versus 4.5 million Tibetans; in Kham and Amdo, Chinese outnumber Tibetans many times over. Chinese traders are favoured by lower tax assessments and the dominant position of Chinese in government administration.

The main cause of these problems is found in the history of t'aegwondo's origins. The fact that t'aegwondo was first brought into Korea from Japan in the form of Japanese karate around the time of the liberation of Korea from Japanese colonial rule, and the way this fact has been dealt with in Korea has left many serious inconsistencies [81] in the way t'aegwondo has been developed within Korea and propagated abroad.
As the river was left behind, more habitations in the shape of miserable and filthy mud-huts, with thatched roofs, became visible; shops of eatables and native low drinking places following one another in continuation; and crowds of ponies, people, and oxen showed that the capital was now being fast neared; and sure enough, after winding along the dirty, narrow road, lined by the still dirtier mud huts for nearly the whole of the distance between Mafu, the place where the Han river was ferried, and here, a distance of about three miles, I found myself at last in front of the West Gate of the walled city of Seoul.

The woman, identified only by her family name Koo, worked in a red light street in the southern port of Yosu between October 2000 and March 2002. "She said she had sex with up to 10 men a day," and "more than half of her clients refused to use condoms," according to a police official in the southeastern city of Gimhae. Health authorities in Gimhae monitored Koo after she was first detected as having contracted HIV in 1998 but she left the city without informing the authorities. The woman is now an AIDS patient. when I flew Asiana over the holidays I noticed that the Koreans have gone one step further in this "East Sea/Sea of Japan crap and named the Yellow Sea "The West Sea" on their flight maps. For jimminy's sake! Shit we should change all sea and ocean names in realtion to it's position to Korea right away!
However, does anyone else find it disturbing that kids were allowed to or even encouraged to draw these pictures AT A SCHOOL? Jesus, it's no wonder people say Asia will never get over it's petty differences if schools are sanctioning this kind of attitude.
I saw a news-type TV show where they took the cameras into an elementary school and asked the uniformed little tykes to raise their hands if they harboured a steamed loathing of Japan and all things Japanese. Up shot all their grubby little 7-year-old hands... up up up!!!
Whenever I have seen large tour groups of Chinese or Koreans on vacation in the United States, their behavior seems incredibly rude to me (rushing the buffet line, pushing people out of the way, blocking the view of older people at shows, jabbering constantly when they should be shutting the h*ll up, etc.) At the very least, they seem indifferent about even considering the social norms of the country they are visiting. It's like the act of touring to them is the same as watching a movie in the privacy of their own home.
I know all about the thousand spies in Australia, but turning Australia into a political colony is a new one, and that just make my blood boil.
China must be stopped, before they become too powerful! And we all know they are next becoming the new superpower, if there not one all ready. Maybe this is how China plains to influence other countries around the world, by spreading there spies around the world, and trying to create a political colonies. This is a much bigger story then what is being presented in the media, china is rising, and they need to be stopped!
did you hear about the Chinese mess in Australia . Yesterday in the news, there was a special report on how Chinese triads were importing and promulgating the use of harmful toxic narcotics such as speed, ice etc etc and how it has gravely affected the younger Aussie generation.
"Turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual.
"The historical scholar Seymour Lipset put it this way: 'The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy.' Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans." http://oldpatriot.blogspot.com/2005...-president.html
Joji Obara was born in 1952 to an impoverished Korean family in postwar Osaka. His father had been a scrap collector, then a taxi driver who worked his way into owning a fleet of cars and a string of pachinko parlors from which he amassed a fortune. Perhaps mindful of the discrimination faced by Koreans, when the young Obara - then known by his Korean name Kim - was asked to pen a farewell sentiment in his junior-high class yearbook, he wrote: "Upbringing is more important than family name."
South Korean police are searching for a Korean man who allegedly raped a female U.S. officer Sunday in Daegu.
A Daegu Nambu police detective said authorities are seeking a 5-foot-5-inch Korean man who they say entered the American woman’s off-base apartment around midnight Sunday.
The detective said the suspect entered the apartment from a balcony, struck the woman and raped her before stealing about $1,100 and 250,000 won (about $250), and about $2,000 worth of items, including a digital camera.
The police officer said the 22-year-old American worked for a medical support unit and that local police are conducting a joint investigation with U.S. Criminal Investigative Command agents.
An 18th Medical Command spokesman from Seoul said he was aware of an incident but was unable to provide additional details Tuesday.
NEW ZEALAND - On June 29, a New Zealand Epoch Times reporter conducted a telephone interview with Hao Fengjun, former official of the 610 Office in Tianjin, regarding the CCP spy activities overseas. Not long ago, he escaped to Australia with many secret documents, which have caught the attention of the international community. In the interview, Hao Fengjun disclosed such information as to how the CCP spies pry into the affairs of New Zealand churches and Falun Gong, the activities of the 610 secret agency, and the operation details of the overseas spy situation.
TORONTO - Han Guangsheng, a 52-year-old former Judiciary Bureau Chief in China, knew he was going out on a limb last week when he approached The Epoch Times becoming the fourth in a recent string of high-profile public defections from China, and the first would-be defector to Canada. Han is an accused traitor in his homeland. In Canada, he is considered a willful accomplice to the Chinese Communist Party’s crimes against humanity. Han fears that he may be deported back to China, where he says he could face incarceration. He knows that speaking up could endanger his own life as well as that of his family.
In his press conference on June 22, Mr. Chen Yonglin said that one of the reasons for breaking his silence and going public was that a good friend of his had been harassed and threatened. Someone claiming to be an Australian immigration officer had called the friend, an ethnic Chinese who has been an Australian citizen for ten years, and stated that her citizenship could be revoked. This upset Mr. Chen, who said: “They threaten anyone who helps me. If my friends become too scared to help, I will have nowhere to go and would have no protection. At least for now, I am still safe with my friends.” http://english.epochtimes.com/news/5-6-27/29820.html
Chinese Defector in Belgium Exposes Industrial Spying in Europe
A Chinese defector in Belgium has exposed a long-running, widespread Chinese Communist Party (CCP) industrial spy network operating in Europe. The latest in a growing list of officials defecting from China to Western countries was a member of a Chinese student association in Leuven, Belgium, according to Claude Moniquet, CEO of European Strategic Intelligence Security Center (ESISC), in an interview with The Epoch Times.
Like recent defectors in Australia and Canada, the defector in Belgium has yet to be given political asylum, so his exact identity has not been made public.
"scholars must be honest" Were Hwarang really worriors? Hwarang(花郎=Flower boys) were originaly women which was the fact recognized in the academy. Hwarang was called Wong-fa first, they were like village festival leaders. When Wong-fa turned to Hwarang , Hwarang were still women. But Samguk Yusa(13c) describes Hwanyang (花娘=Flower girls )instead of Hwarang. This is the key of distortion. "The girl like flower" sounds fine but "The boy like flower"??? Yes, Hwarang was incorrect word. The Korean scholars who distorted Hwanyang to Hwarang might have never read the original historical record. Or they intended?
Shilla during Three kindoms era, Hwarang turned to be men but they were called 国仙(guksan?), they were not worriors at all either. Hwarang's selection standard was face features.(Samguk Sagi 三国史記 真興王37年条) Why did they choose good looking boys instead of strong men? Shilla was Matrilineal society. Queen of Shilla was shrine maiden and not allowed to have husband. So the good looking Hwarang boys were chosen to sleep with her.(Samuguk Sagi 三国史記 真聖女王編)
When did Hwarang became worrior like Samurai? During Korean war, President Lee Sunman wanted young Koreans to be more patriotic. He ordered Colonel Lee Son Gun(former historian) to find some national hero like historical figures. It was the starting point of Hwarang worrior fantasy.
Military Critic Reaps Whirlwind with Comfort Women Claims
The controversial military commentator Ji Man-won has come under fire again after saying that claims by some women to have been drafted into sexual slavery as “comfort women” by the Japanese Army were fraudulent. Ji said on his website on Wednesday and Thursday that only 33 women had been confirmed former “comfort women,” or Chongshindae, by Shim Mi-ja, a comfort woman whose painful past was acknowledged by the Japanese Supreme Court. Ji said none of the 33 took part in a protest former comfort women stage every Wednesday in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul. He said Japan concluded that one ostensible comfort woman who appeared frequently on TV was a fraud and refused to pay her compensation. Ji claimed no more than 20 percent of all comfort women were forcefully conscripted by Japan, while the rest were ordinary prostitutes trying to escape from poverty.
Rights organizations and Korea’s online community have bombarded Ji with criticism over the claims.
The Korea Chongshindae Council issued a statement threatening legal action against Ji for defamation and violating the human rights of former comfort women. The organization’s website was inundated with messages criticizing Ji. They said Ji should be held accountable for his remarks, which rubbed salt into wounds of former comfort women.
If the emperor, prime minister, and the entire Japanese diet came to the Blue house and prostrated themselves on the ground, in my opinion it would not be enough, because on this issue, not so deep down, Koreans are not interested in an apology: they are interested in the delicious warmth of self-righteous rage and victim-complex self-pity. Really, the Korean plain-for-all-to-see mixture of raging historical grievance and conviction of moral/racial/cultural superiority towards Japan reminds one exactly of that of Germans towards the Jews in the 1920's and 1930's.
“Whenever a Korean says his ancestors were royal family or that they came from China or even India, you should take that with grain of salt. Koreans like to think that their family tree is unique and important in origin.”

The biggest group of convicted lawbreakers came from Iran, who made up 6,691 of every 100,000 foreign criminals, followed by 6,304 Russians, 5,672 Hong Kong citizens, 4,958 Americans and 3,190 Germans. Statistically the most law-abiding guests were the Nepalese, who made up only 211 convicted criminals per 100,000 wrongdoers from abroad, followed by 571 Indonesians, 807 Filipinos and 821 Thais.
"Korea is so bereft of meaningful accomplishments and so starved for national glory and attention that they would actually fabricate and fake stem cell research does not surprise me. Anyone who has known Koreans know that they are too nationalistic and arrogant.I was in bangkok when they went qualified for the semi finals in the world cup of 2002. They were dancing in bangkok and shoving their Korean flag in everyones faces. Everybody was really angry watching their display of jingoism and their in your face nationalism. This isn't just an indictment of the science of Korea, it is a indictment of the Korean people and their false sense of pride." - Mike http://english.ohmynews.com/articleview/article_view.asp?menu=&no=265858&rel_no=1&back_url=
My Dear Mrs. Budd, In 1894 a friend of mine shipped as a deck hand on the Steamer Tacoma, Capt. John Davis. They sailed from San Francisco for Hong Kong China. On arriving there he and two others went ashore and got drunk. When they returned the boat was gone. At that time there was a famine in China. Meat of any kind was from $1-3 Dollars a pound. So great was the suffering among the very poor that all children under 12 were sold to the Butchers to be cut up and used for food in order to keep others from starving. A boy or girl under 14 was not safe in the street. You could go in any shop and ask for steak-chops-or stew meat. Part of the naked body of a boy or a girl would be brought out and just what you wanted cut from it. A boy or girls behind which is the sweetest part of the body and sold as veal cutlet brought the highest price
A number of anti-American incidents have occurred near bases in South Korea. The most violent was the murder of U.S. Army Dr. (Maj.) David Berry on 25 June. Berry was stabbed to death while walking with two other doctors in Itaewon, a popular shopping area in Seoul. A 37-year-old out-of-work construction worker was charged with the crime.
Other attacks have been made against American service members, a Korean national working for U.S. Forces Korea and the spouses of American service members. U.S. officials in Korea have urged U.S. personnel to travel in groups or at least in pairs. In South Korea, U.S. military police will increase their liaison with Korean National Police in areas frequented by Americans...
