By Shakir Husain PUTRAJAYA, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Mecca Cola founder Tawfik Mathlouthi who sells his beverage mixed with political ideology, Thursday disclosed plans to launch "Mecca Burger" and Halal Fried Chicken (HFC) to eat into the markets of US fast food companies.
The French entrepreneur of Tunisian origin, said his products were targeted at the large number of Muslims and other consumers who were against US "hegemony and imperialism."
"It is a matter of conviction for our consumers. They won't use US products even if offered free," he said at the Putrajaya Convention Centre, venue of the 10th summit of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC). He said the aim of his company was to provide consumers a "choice" in a market dominated by US fast food giants.
Mathlouthi said his company donated 10 per cent of Mecca Cola net profits to local charities and 10 per cent to Palestinian victims of Israeli violence.
A Malaysian company will start bottling Mecca Cola in November. Mathlouthi said Malaysia would be the regional headquarters of Mecca Cola.
The drink will also be available soon in Brazil, Venezuela, Peru and Mexico and other places in Latin America.
Our brands offer a real alternative for people concerned by the practices of the major multinationals. A common perception is that these giant corporations use their size in their quest for increased profits to support injustices against people.
