The Aerosmith/KISS Tour rumour once again... 1/10/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- The joint Aerosmith and Kiss tour is apparently back on for this summer. Promoters are reporting that the two bands are currently putting together an itinerary that is likely to play mostly in arenas, although some stadium dates are also possible. Neither band is officially confirming the tour, however. Aerosmith, in fact, spoke with us earlier about plans for an OzzFest-style festival package for the summer, but that's apparently gone by the wayside. Kiss singer-guitarist Paul Stanley was asked last year about touring with Aerosmith, when the rumors first began, but declined to confirm any plans with Aerosmith. "We're in this enviable position that we're still finishing up our farewell tour, and we've already had about two million people say, 'Don't stop,'" Stanley said. "And at that point, we're kind of scratching our heads and wondering what we're going to do next, so we're really kind of keeping our options open. If the right situation came along, anything's possible." Kiss, meanwhile, is preparing for a February 28 show with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in Australia, as well as three dates (March 11-13) at Budokan Hall in Tokyo. Drummer Peter Criss will be rejoining the band for these shows, while lead guitarist Ace Frehley has not officially confirmed his participation. Aerosmith plans to record a new blues-oriented album this spring before the tour. -- Gary Graff, Detroit, and Bruce Simon, New York From: http://www.launch.com ... I sure hope this ain't true...
{{ AeroFANatic }} Chris reports on the next album... Here's the LATEST album news as I know it... -The band will be in the studio in March/April to write and record a few new tracks. While being titled a "blues album", it's probably going to be more of a "blues inspired" album. Not ALL the tracks will be bluesy, but a big majority will be. But definitly expect the rockin' Aerosmith to be shown (also will include at least one HEAVIER radio friendly song for promotion purposes).
- Expect 5-7 cover tunes (bluesish) and 5-7 new tracks. The cover tunes are being hand picked by band members. The "new" tracks may well be any combination of leftover heavier tracks from the JPP sessions, the Oh Yeah sessions, and these new studio sessions to start in March.
- This is a band heavy project; meaning the ENTIRE band will be having a say in the material. It wont be as segmented as far as songwriting goes as the last few albums have been. I think it's going to be the 1st "band heavy" album since PUMP.
- The band and Columbia Records are pushing for a June 2003 release date for this yet to be titled monster. Vindaloo Blue anyone? ;-)
- Jack Douglas is indeed the producer, and with the band "going back to the roots"...may as well go back to their roots producer!
- Summer arena tour with Kiss looks likely, but no deal yet set in stone.
That's it as of 1-14-03. Of course anything and everything can change in the world of rock and roll. Keep it tuned to AeroFANatic.com for the VERY latest...
