Barnet almost got off to a dream start against their more
illustrious counterparts, as Ben Strevens struck a fantastic
overhead kick that beat David Seaman all ends up - unfortunately
the effort was ruled out for offside.
Wayne Purse then nutmegged Sol Campbell but was unable to fully
take advantage of the situation, before Francis Jeffers almost
created a chance for Dennis Bergkamp after a fine run.
Arsenal took the lead on the 27 minute mark, when Ray Parlour
surged through the middle and threaded a ball through to
Freddie Ljungberg, who coolly finished past goalkeeper
Danny Naisbitt with a low right-footed shot.
Lauren hit the post four minutes later and Bergkamp was
unable to finish off the rebound, before The Gunners
doubled their advantage on 32 minutes when Ashley Cole
squirmed through the defence and slotted past Naisbitt.
Arsenal made it 3-0 just three minutes before the interval
when Bergkamp played a one-two with Jeffers and drilled
home from the edge of the area with his right foot.
