Match stats v Besiktas IAN WALKER 6 Apart from the goal, which he could do nothing about, the former England international could not have had an easier evening.
TAL BEN HAIM 7 Captain for the night, he was committed and highly effective at right back, which is not his favoured position. ABDOULAYE FAYE 8 Played a major role in keeping the Besiktas strikers out of harm way; his versatility is going to be a major asset. RADHI JAIDI 7 Seemed to be labouring at one point against the pace of the Besiktas attack but became more effective as the game wore on. RICARDO GARDNER 7 Back in the old routine in the left-back role and Wanderers looked all the better for it.
FABRICE FERNANDES 6 Played his part, alternating flanks with Diouf, before making way for Nolan. HIDETOSHI NAKATA 6 Some of his distribution was not up to scratch but he worked harder than in any game he has played in Bolton colours. JOEY O'BRIEN 9 Always seemed to be in the right place at the right time, snuffing out danger and breaking up Besiktas attacks before they could do any damage.
KAL FADIGA 8 He got stronger and more impressive, the longer the game went on; hard to believe this was his first Bolton start since February. EL-HADJI DIOUF 8 Looked to be enjoying every minute; played intelligently, with discipline and was unlucky to have his goal disallowed. JARED BORGETTI 8 Showed superb technique with his goal and went a long way to convincing Allardyce that he deserves a Premiership run.
Subs: Kevin Nolan (6) for Fernandes 59 minutes. Not used: Kevin Davies, Bruno Ncotty, Ricardo Vaz Te, Jaroslaw Fojut, Henrik Pedersen, Jussi Jaaskelainen.
