Gerrard: It's not right that Owen left Anfield Daily Telegraph - 28th August 2004
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard says it's not right that Michael Owen has left the club and is now a Real Madrid player. The midfielder admits he's missing him and hopes that he'll return to Anfield in the future and thanks to the buy-back clause in his contract, that may actually happen one day.
Gerrard said: "I'll be honest with you, I was disappointed when Michael left. He's a great friend of mine, I love playing with him. I know his runs inside-out and I've had a good relationship with him at Liverpool and with England for years.
"When I heard he was going I was shocked. I was the same as any Liverpool fan - really gutted. But I do understand the situation the club were in, with Michael only having a year left on his contract. Everyone knows what happened with Steve McManaman and the club don't want situations like that to happen again.
"I pick the papers up now and see him in the Real Madrid kit and think: 'No, that's not right. What's he doing? When's he coming back?'"
