-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Soccer-Japanese players suffering from travel phobia By Alastair Himmer TOKYO, June 21 (Reuters)(DS) - Japan coach Philippe Troussier reckons his players need more experience of European football if they are to improve by next year's World Cup finals. Japan finished as runners-up in the recent Confederations Cup, but Troussier has no illusions about the task facing him ahead of the finals wich Japan are hosting with South Korea. The Frenchman pinpointed Japan's lack of big-game experience, and an apparent reluctance to play in Europe, as the team's major weaknesses. "We only have two players based in Europe. Technically and tactically, the Japanese can't get much better, but they won't get experience playing in the J-League," said Troussier after Japan lost 1-0 to France in Yokohama. Make that only one player based in Europe. Japan striker Akinori Nishizawa has been released by Spanish club Espanyol after a frustrating six-month spell on loan from J-League side Cerezo Osaka, leaving AS Roma's Hidetoshi Nakata as the only Japan international currently playing abroad. Troussier is concerned that not enough of the current Japan squad have shown the desire to follow in the footsteps of Nakata, despite overtures from a number of European clubs.
